2024.05.08 11:53 fierybluebeacon Dysautonomia better after a bad night's sleep, worse after a good night?

The Background Info: I care for my partner with severe ME who has been fully bedbound since December. They've also been dealing with some kind of nervous system dysfunction since a bad reaction to LDN in Feb which has persisted even after stopping it.
We've not been able to track any real pattern to their dysautonomia, apart from in the first few weeks it was much more sympathetic overactivity, and recently it's much more parasympathetic overactivity. From everything I've read most information is about dealing with the former, but their parasympathetic has been extremely debilitating- even more so than their ME was before February. It affects them for 90-99% of each day, but in the brief moments of reprieve they have noted that their ME has been gradually improving, so we know this is a distinct separate problem that comes in episodes.
Symptoms include a lowered but pounding heart rate, heart palpitations, muscle weakness, joint pain, dizziness, squeezing/tension headaches, extreme fatigue, sinus issues, and an overactive/gurgling/churning stomach. It impacts their ability to rest, think and sleep.
Their GP has been pretty useless, the only medication she tried was mirtazapine which seemed to make everything worse, and she can't prescribe anything off label, like POTs medications. I did push her to make a referral to cardiology, but she said it's rare they take cases like this, and them being able to treat remotely is also unlikely. I do have an appointment booked with a private specialist, Dr Claire Taylor, but that's still over a month away.
Before anyone suggests, we've tried the vitamins, the supplements, vagus nerve exercises, etc, and the best they get is very temporary minor relief.
Without the dysautonomia, we think they could really be making big steps in recovering from bedbound, and from very severe ME, so this issue is the priority to solving. But as mentioned, we can't find any rhyme or reason, there's no pattern or predictability, so we have no baseline to work off.
But, as mentioned in the title, the one odd thing we've noted is after a night of good, long, uninterrupted sleep, their parasympathetic symptoms are much worse the next day. But if they have a bad night, barely sleep, waking up lots, their parasympathetic symptoms are much less the next day. Is this their body getting its wires crossed? Or maybe the bad sleep is being caused by their overactive ANS so by the next day it's kind of worn itself out? Any theories to understanding this would be great, because we need every small step we can to understanding what's happening to them.

Unable to configure unique tooltips correctly in a decomposition tree visual. What am I doing wrong and how can I solve this issue? Are there any workarounds?
Hello, comparatively new at power bi, and have been struggling a lot, first to construct a decomposition tree visual and now to add tooltips to it. I had previously done both of these things for an EV sales dashboard and it worked perfectly fine. But the one I'm currently doing is somehow troubling me a lot. I am trying to visualize hierarchy of Emission categories under IPCC and it looks something like the following:
Emission categories for IPCC
[Conditional formatting: Green indicates good/high quality of data available, Red indicated no data available, yellow is between them]
To visualize the above tree, I tried couple of different methods like having DIM and FACT table separate, but that didn't work. Finally, I was able to visualize this using the following simple table:
Table used for decomposition tree (ignore the emissions value)
Now comes the part which I'm unable to solve. Each level has a unique description and the client (my boss) wants it as a tooltip. For example, if I hover on Energy (under Level 1), the tooltip must only show 'ABC', and if I hover on Energy Industries (under Level 3), the tooltip must only show 'XYZ'. Similarly, if I hover on Transport (under Level 3), it must show the description unique to that sector and so on.
Currently, I have tried to extend the above table with the following columns:
Extra columns in the table above to include description as tooltips
However, in this approach, multiple tooltips are shown for each category. In other approach, I tried having a different separate table of description that was connected to my original table via 'Label' column, but in that some tooltips are shown inaccurately, while some are not shown at all. May be I'm doing something very wrong here, I don't know. I have also tried asking help from ChatGPT and Gemini, but they keep offering me solutions based on features that I don't even see in my power bi desktop (like 'open tooltips configuration window and map each level with a description column' - I am so confused there).
Anyways, my questions:
  1. Is it even possible to have unique tooltips in this particular problem set? If yes, please guide me how.
  2. If the answer to the first question is no, then what are the work arounds for this issue? Given that this dashboard's primary purpose is to serve awareness, I was thinking may be if I can add a dynamic text box that shows description of parent category and the selected child category. Is this approach possible? If yes, please guide me.
P.s: I am using a power bi pro license.

Hi. My name is Courtney, and I'm 16 years old. I'm really bored, and I'm not doing anything for the whole night. If anyone wants to talk, go ahead and send me a message. I really like music a lot. 2024.05.08 11:51 ThePixelPizza Leverage World ETFs using

As we probably all know, investing in a world ETF is a no-brainer. Especially from an Efficient Market Hypothesis perspective. These instruments are almost guaranteed to make money over the long term.
That’s why I had the idea to leverage my exposure to a market index. I identified 4 ways to do this, but they al seem to come with specific downsides. What are your opinions on these:
Obviously, risk increases when leveraging. However, I still think the risk can be sensible if you factor in historic performance of market indices. However, because of the complexity of these instruments, there’s also a high risk in overlooking a certain risk factor. That’s why I am asking your opinions/experience.
Thanks!

2024.05.08 11:51 yabnormal1 6 mos post op- have any of yall experienced this?

Hey guys! I had my gallbladder removed back in November! Pre-op I had developed sudden right upper quadrant pain, that just really wouldn’t go away that was effecting my day to day life. Went to the dr and had an ultrasound and ct, where they didn’t find anything wrong. Had a friend tell me about the HIDA scan, which I requested. Got the scan done and found that I had a 21% ejection fraction rate, diagnosed with biliary dyskinesia and was scheduled for a lap chole. After my surgery, everything was great! No pain, could eat almost normally minus a few things my body no longer tolerates, it was great, I felt great and was able to get back to my normal life! About 3 months post op, I started getting the same pains as a gallbladder attack, nausea, lethargic, intermittent fevers, sometimes throwing up, lack of appetite, motion sickness and dark urine. This is all affecting my daily activities as the only relief I find is laying down on my right side stretched out as far as I can. It seems as if it happens in cycles about every few weeks. I might have one tolerable week, and then I’m right back to being sick. I went to my dr and told him all of my concerns and brought up post cholecystectomy syndrome. He said that it doesn’t seem like it would be that as it would have presented sooner, it’s very highly unlikely that a stone is present since I didn’t have any to begin with(this is the first time I was able to get into my pcp, I had gone to a different dr with these same concerns in February who just told me it was acid reflux). He ordered some blood and urine tests that came back “normal” and prescribed me colesevelam to help bind bile (it binds wayyy more than that to say the least) and zofran. He told me we could order an ultrasound to check and see if there is something going on still, but he really doesn’t think so and says I could just have a lot of scarring since my gallbladder was so angry for so long, and less likely something with my bile ducts but I feel it’s something much more. I went ahead and asked for him to order the scan. Do any of yall have any insight or experience the same thing and have any suggestions as to what to ask about to look for? I don’t think any of this is ER worthy but I’m at my wits end.

2024.05.08 11:51 Roversword Issues with auth in explicit proxy feature in fgt100f (6.4.15)

Dear all

I have configured an explicit proxy on at fgt100F with 6.4.15. The goal is to use kerberos as an authentication for the users. Unfortunately this doesn't work yet.
To start troubleshooting I disabled the autbentication need on the proxy policy (all where allowed then, without need of login credentiaks) and let the customer test. We were able to verify that the explicit proxy works (if authentication is not needed).
Then I added the authentication again in the proxy policy and the customer confirms the browser receives a "connection refused" from the Fortigate. Not an error message like "auth required" or like this - but directly a "connection refused" in the browser.
This would explain why I don't really see any logs of said tests (as the connections are refused).
The connection to the used LDAP server (tested within WebGUI of Fortigate) works and show OK (still wouldnt explain the error message in the browser, even if that would be an issue).
Following questions:
Thanks a lot

2024.05.08 11:50 Careful_Wealth_4961 I love what I’ve seen of the mage

That’s it really. I know at the minute people seem divided but I love what I’ve seen. I think the effects are really cool and suit a high fantasy, magical world. I think the abilities, even tho we’ve seen them in other games, here look really cool and fun to use. I’ve definitely settled on a mage being my first alpha 2 character. I do obviously hope they continue to improve the look of the effects and working on the class but I’m sold on it from what I’ve seen.
Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts? One thing I would like personally is for lightning ball to move a bit faster.

2024.05.08 11:50 LankyRecording6779 Neighbour extension and roof fixing

Hi! Two things really. First one is my neighbour owns the house next door to mine (mid terraces) but rents it out as a student house so presumably is a HMO. She informed me a few weeks ago they had a leak in the back which is coming from the copings over the joint wall of our houses / shared chimney stack. She came back last week via WhatsApp to voice note telling me she’d be in touch soon with the cost and how much it would be to get scaffold up over the front and back of both our houses.
I said she could have access and I would grant her to put scaffold up but I would not be paying for any of the work . If she wants to fix something as she is having an issue, she can. But from my point of view, I don’t have a leak so I wouldn’t be fixing it if it weren’t for her.
In the same breath of her voice note to inform me I had to pay she also told me she needs access to my back garden as she’s having a single story extension built and doesn’t need planning permission so is just letting me know. And also will be replacing my fence with said wall of extension. Obviously I don’t want this - the wall will be higher than my fence and will significantly block light into my small garden. She also already has a small extension so I’m not even sure how it would look.
I need some advice on what my rights are! I’m a first time buyer, I only bought and moved into the property in January of this year. I feel as a property developer and landlord of multiple properties she thinks she can take me for a ride and tell me what to do ! I don’t have money to pay for her roof (I’m already sorting my own damp problems) let alone pay for any solicitor if this becomes legal. As for the extension- do I have to wait to see plans or find out what’s she doing before I could ask the council to confirm what’s she’s doing ? Any help and advice is appreciated, anxiety is spiralling !!

2024.05.08 11:50 barnowl5 Might not be soo bad after all... in fact, pretty good...

Not gonna lie, really was not looking forward to this year at all... I dunno, most of the songs, I heard a few weeks ago, I felt nothing. In fact, only a couple. Was already looking forward to next year. (I know, I know...)
Only one I really liked was Silia Kapsis. And that was it.
Then last night happened...
In no particular order...
And for the first minute of the semis, I still didn't get it...
Then something happened...
The last 2 mins blew me away. I rarely say this in my life, but the performance was genius. Forget it is Ireland, who I have been desperate to qualify for the last 5 years (if not more).
It was just, oh so damn good. Really glad that Bambi qualified. Really, low key want her to win. Almost quite badly (quite the contradiction. What can I say, I'm human ;-)
This is clearly the EAEA of this year, which I loved. Hopefully, this time it will get into the top 3. And no, I wouldn't complain if it won.
Still don't really fully get the lyrics, but that's my problem. The dance was simple, and effective. Plus, it was EPIC. what we need at Eurovision. Me thinks it will win due to, 'Cha, cha, cha' not winning last year, so people will really turn out in numbers...
I loved his song in 2018, and it was good to see him again. He performed with a brilliant flair and a showmanship which was refreshing to see. It was that good. Hope to see him again in the future.
Anyway, these are my thoughts, do you agree, or respectfully disagree. Please share below. Thanks for reading ;-)
Peace

2024.05.08 11:50 Ok-Assist-3838 Upgrade prioritization

Hi everybody,
My current set up is a Breville Bambino and a Baratza ESP. I really start to enjoy specialty coffee, specifically the lighter roasts. There are some workarounds on the Bambino to achieve a decently testing cup of lighter roasted coffee (e.g., lowering the dose, steaming before starting the shot). However it’s still less than ideal and I can’t seem to replicate the same flavors that I taste at my local roaster. Therefore, I am in the market to upgrade both my grinder and my espresso machine. The espresso machine I’m looking at the Profitec Go (I’m certain on it) and a nice grinder that would be able to produce a better cup (I’m looking at the Timemore Sculpture, but as discussed in previous threads the current price of 800€ for the 078S might be too much - hence not sure on a grinder yet). Apart from the question which grinder to get, what would be your recommendation regarding the prioritization between these two purchases? Which purchase would get me closer to the desired better-tasting cup with lighter roasts? Is it the PID from the Profitec Go or better ground coffee beans from a grinder like the Timemore Sculpture? Thanks a lot for your input! :)

2024.05.08 11:49 WRX3 LEGO Notre-Dame de Paris vs Colosseum Scale

With the Notre-Dame 21061 being released on the store my mind immediately went to how it would possibly look next to the Colosseum 10276 in terms of scale. Based on the box art that shows the height and length of the Notre-Dame (and the same for the Colosseum) I did some rough calculations on what the scales are. These values are seen in the table below. The scale means that for every meter in lego size, you will have X meter in the real world (This of course also works as 1cm = Xcm).
Reality [m] Lego [m] Scale
Colosseum Height 48 0.24 201
Colosseum Long 189 0.56 335
Colosseum Wide 156 0.44 352
Notre Dam Height 96 0.32 297
Notre Dam Long 128 0.38 338
The lego sizes differ from the ones on the box somewhat because I removed the base they are build on, as the buildings IRL are not build on such a base. So keep it mind these are estimates.
The one that sticks out the most is the height of the colosseum, showing that the model should have been a lot lower (or widelonger). The length/width of the two buildings are in the same ballpark however, with the length only having a 0.7% difference!
So it seems like they will work next to each other :) You will only have to deal with the fact that instead of the colosseum being half the height of the Notre Dam (exactly funnily enough), it is 3/4th of the height.

2024.05.08 11:48 mean_bean_queen Going into 24 hours of no drinking. Hopefully I stick to it this time!

Hi, I'm 23 years old and have tried going sober numerous times. My addictions, including not only alcohol, but benzos, weed, and even uppers and psychedelics, were very, very bad— really from ages 16-21 I suffered the worst of it. A lot of factors lead to the excessive abuse, but it was terrible. So many times I blacked out. So many times I was a bad partner, bad friend because of my lack of control. I was a loose cannon that was hurting everything and everyone in my path.
I lost my grandmother when I was 21, and it was an absolutely awful thing to witness. She had helped raise me so I was very close with her, and her death was.. very dramatic. I witnessed all of it since I was living with her, and I will never get over seeing her lying dead on the floor. The yelling and crying from my family.
I remember all of that, but not what happened after. This was from genuine shock, I know, but I spiraled and only a day later I got arrested with a DUI after a man drove off the road to avoid hitting me head on. He broke his back in the process. I lost my license.
I haven't gotten it back since in simple fear of what happened because of my own grief. The fact I could do this to a stranger with a little girl and a wife. The fact I affected someone so drastically that I didn't even know.
So, I tried going sober. I had tried before my 21st birthday since I was downing handles of whiskey within days of each other. But it didn't stick. After my grandmother's death and my arrest, I tried again. It did last about a month, but I fell into the cycle again.
And here I am now. A 23 year old woman who is sleeping on my aunt's couch and was drinking about four times a week excessively, and taking kolonpins thinking it was alright since I "had control" over it. Thinking I needed alcohol before I hung out with friends, or a Kolonpin in the morning and evening to alleviate my stress levels. Drinking and mixing the two because I had less of a hangover that way, and made my drinking more "fun." (Half of the time I ended up crying.)
The final nail in the coffin was a few days ago. I'll spare all of you the dramatic details, but I ended up taking 3 1mg Kolonpins about four hours apart from each other during a drinking binge that lasted all night— until 7am— and ended up severely damaging friendships I had with two people who actually were very nice to me. I said some nasty things in the group chat, really just self sabotaging myself at this point— and now even my other friends haven't been speaking with me. I understand why they aren't.
The point is, after waking up and feeling generally out of it and deathly, the immense shame and guilt came flooding through. That's behavior I pulled years ago. That's what old me used to do. That wasn't me now, so why did I fall to this state again? I wasn't doing as bad as before my grandmother died, and my grandfather just passed last October, but I really thought it was a good thing I hadn't done anything else other than drink regularly and take a few benzos during the day rather than completely and uttering spiraling into chaos— into the person I was before. The person I became again the other night.
...I thought I had a good handle on it, but I just.. can't be that cool person who can have a few glasses of wine at the party and be okay. No, I'll want the whole bottle and more. Some people are just not built for drinking, and I'm one of them. A bit of my breakdown was probably caused by the increasing realization (and not just shock and denial) of my grandfather's death, I'm sure, among numerous issues in my life; but I am so tired of not having a clear head on my shoulders to deal with these issues. So tired of just existing every day without ever even living.
I want to be the kind and sweet natured person I know I can be. The one I usually am whenever I am not "other me." I want to be a well rounded, stable individual who you can depend on, trust, respect, and even look up to. I want to be the kind of person I'd look up to. So here we are again. I know it's a journey, but I'm ready. I'll keep fighting for as long as I live if that's what it takes.
I've downloaded the app "I Am Sober." I'm trying to look into affordable therapy. I've also stopped taking Kolonpins, and eventually want to cut vaping and (maybe) caffeine out all together.
I've told my partner of my plans, and he's super supportive of me. He struggles with drinking as well, and he's going to try with me. Hopefully it sticks for the both of us, but I am really fighting for myself, now. I don't ever want to feel like that insecure, angry, and fragile little girl I once was again— the one who would lash out at people who loved them and made all the wrong choices.
I am so sorry for this novel of a rant, but going into day two, I feel hopeful of finding myself again. My true self. Getting back into my hobbies. Continuing to build my savings up until I can move out. Eventually, one day, having enough confidence and strength to try for my licenses again.
So it's nice to meet you, everyone, and thank you if you've read this far and read my story. I have no idea what that acronym means at the end of some of your posts, but I like the sound of it. IWNDWYT. Grandma, Papa, Coby, Harley.. all I've lost in the past, I'm sorry you aren't here to see me trying, but I'm going to try and really live for you, now. Just so sorry you weren't here to see this. Much love.

2024.05.08 11:48 memoryCardLover Are these normal things that "best friends" do? Or is this going beyond that?

Hi everyone, girl here! I need some advice about dating a best friend.
I'm in a little bit of a confusing situation with a friend that i'm very close with. i'd like to hear your opinion on our situation. you can also share your own experiences with dating your best friend; it's nice to see other peoples' situations and how they've played out.
I (21F) met my best friend (22M) at the beginning of the school year (we're both uni students). We are very close with one another, see each other nearly every day, facetime/text/send tiktoks all the time, all that fun, normal friend stuff. We are both straight (and i do believe that guys and girls can be platonic!). I feel as though some of the things that we do are not normal "guy-girl" friendship things, they go beyond that.
Here's a list of some of the things that we do that I feel like is pushing the boundaries of being "just friends". (Spoilers: a lot of it comes from his end. I honestly am too shy about romantic things to make a move on him, and he even agreed with me that I only flirted with him once the whole time we've known each other)Feel free to let me know if these are just normal "close friend" things to do, or if they are things that are more "couple-y".
Now, here's what is confusing to me. I did catch feelings for him (that's a big part of why I never did much to flirt with him myself-- I felt too shy!). I confessed to him how I felt, twice actually.
  1. The first time I confessed, he told me that he never saw me in that way, and that he wasn't going to change his mind on that. We talked it out peacefully, and decided that we wouldn't let that get in between us. I like being close friends with him, and he does too. Actually, I feel like we actually did get closer after this first confession.
  2. Just last week, the topic of my confession came up in conversation. I told him that I can't tell him how to feel, and honestly that I really liked being close friends anyways so it was okay.
The only thing i did add this time was how I reflected on the situation:
I talked this over with another friend (who's a little older, so maybe he had some more "mature" insight, if that means anything. He has been through similar experiences himself, and wanted to pitch in.). He pointed out to me that it was odd that my friend at first said that he wouldn't change his mind, but now we know that he once did change his mind on the topic.
My main concern is that my best friend's actions and words don't match up. He says he is not interested like that and wants to stay best friends. But his actions go beyond being "just friends". In general, we do things that just best friends don't usually do. And it's always coming from him, too. I really like our dynamic as friends and appreciate him as a person. I don't mind staying close friends, it is really fun that way!
But from my perspective, I am seeing signs from him, and I am willing to take things a step further. It's just very confusing for me (and anyone i've talked about it) to navigate through. I want to take his words at face value and move on, but his actions are just so confusing. Any advice would be appreciated!

TLDR: My (21 F) best friend (22 M) says he just wants to stay best friends, but we keep getting closer. the things we do together do not seem like things that normal "best friends" do. It seems like it's always him to be the one pushing the boundaries of the friendship too. i feel like his words and actions don't match up, and it's confusing me.

2024.05.08 11:48 GamingJiraffe Seeking help and ideas to plan my future in Japan

Seeking help and ideas to plan my dream future in Japan
Hello everybody! I´ve been reading a bunch of your posts and thought you might enjoy hearing me out and potentially give out some very much needed help in my journey.
I´m Italian, I´m 31 years old, I´ve been working in Austria for the past 2 years and I´m studying to get a BA in "sciences of linguistic mediation" from an Italian university at par with European standards. (I had to choose an Italian one, as it was the only option for me to get quick, easy, affordable access to, and it would allow me to complete close to 100% of the course online)
Ever since I was a kid, I never felt at ease in my home country and I strived to make a living somewhere far away where it would feel like home. Because of this, I made a career choice that would allow me to travel easily while doing something I loved. I moved away from Italy at the age of 17 to go study at the "Academie de danse Princesse Grace de Monaco". After graduating there, I got my first job in London, for 6 months, as a professional dancer. I since have continued down that path, hopping around European theatres (Czech Republic - Austria - Germany - Spain - UK). I always had a fix job but I changed location every few years as I sought to make as many connections as possible to improve my chances of becoming a dance choreographetheatre directoteacher. Theatre world is recommendation Heeeeavy, and I regret to say that I was too stubborn when I was younger and couldn´t bring myself to "lick the right boots". After 12 years of struggle as a danceteachechoreographer, I decided that it just was not worth it anymore and I found myself at a loss, looking at a bleak return to Italy forced by ever more frequent work related injuries. Last year, after a heart issue that was later found to be nothing serious and to have sprung as a result of prolonged severe anxiety, I started being way more positive about this whole situation and I decided to make the most out of what I´d got by using some of my savings to visit a country I´d always wanted to visit: Japan.
I stayed in Japan for close to a month, during my summer holiday and, of course, as ironic as they come, I came to a very quick realization: Japan is the country that feels like home! Then came the other realization, just as quick: I am useless to my dream country! I dragged myself back to Austria and immediately picked up Japanese language classes and the BA on linguistic mediation, since despite having worked in all those different countries, theatre work is conducted entirely in English and with colleagues from all around the world, and since I´ve always had a passion and quite the talent for languages, of which I speak a few: Italian, English, Spanish (close to native proficiency, even though my Italian isn´t as good as it used to be), French, German (I can easily hold a conversation), Czech and Japanese (basic knowledge, for now).
I wish to end my dancing career by August 2026 (this has to do with my contract length) and my BA is due to end October 2026. I will make sure it isn´t delayed by a single month, but I am seeing a lot of obstacles while planning ahead (i.e. 12 years of English education, basically non-existent interest in languages other than English, general VISA shenanigans, etc... I´m sure you know what I´m talking about) I know it is quite early to do so, but I am not making the same mistakes that I made in the past; I really do wish to have a concrete objective ahead of me. I have recently enrolled in an online teaching platform and I´m awaiting approval to make a few bucks on the side and gain some official experience (I have previously privately taught languages to family members, colleagues, friends, etc.)
I had quite a few dreams and now I have only two left, the first of which is to move to Japan indefinitely. Is my dream just a tad too far to reach? How can I best plan ahead realistically?
Your help and consideration are immensely valuable to me
EDIT: I am writing from Japan, by the way. I couldn´t keep away and decided to give it another month just to make sure I really was in love with the place and well..... I just never want to leave...I might just hide in a bin and call it a day! Wait.. where are all the bins!? hehe

2024.05.08 11:46 Archery1a Beginner Advice - Using Swimming to Get Fit and Stronger for Archery

I have a bit of a unique situation and would like some advice, thoughts and any other tips.
I’m looking to start swimming. I can swim but definitely get tired after a couple of laps. My goals are to help improve my fitness, both in appearance and general strength.
I also do archery so am hoping that I can use swimming to improve my strength for that. From what I can tell certain stokes use similar muscles to what we use in archery.
What are people‘s thoughts on this? Im Very new to fitness in general so do not have much of a clue if this is even feasible.

2024.05.08 11:46 Far_Power8780 Can We Talk About Weapon Balance?

TL;DR: Most guns suck past diff 6. Majority of warbonds are bad. DD got gutted right before the release of PP, raises concerns about players wanting to buy warbonds.
Title. I'm looking directly at you Alexus, lead designer of Hello Neighbor 2 and for some reason the person in charge of all the guns in this game.
It took their team 3 months to give DMRs a 10% damage increase and better handling, which then made them decent. But the slugger got nerfed in the worst way. Instead of accuracy at range it's stagger got neutered and it lost it's spark for me. This was my wake up call that they have NO idea what they are doing.
Most of the weapons on release were/are awful. The blitzer, dagger, spray & pray, plasma shotty, scythe, lib pen, the list goes on. Granted, any gun will work on a diff 4. But as the game progresses more and more people are gravitating towards high difficulties and realizing how terrible so many guns and strategems are. We are pretty much forced into the same 4-5 loadouts to be competetive and complete these efficiently.
The problem with this is in their holier-than-thou fight to discourage meta, they have created the most stale meta i've ever seen.
Each paid warbond has only 1-2 good guns. And we just saw that DD has been absolutely obliterated. This is massively concerning to me and I don't think many people appreciate how terrible this is for the games health. This is Helldivers 2. We shoot. We blow stuff up. That's it. The missions and maps are fairly repetitive, and the guns / strategems are what keep us engaged. Look at Killing Floor 2, L4D2, Deep Rock Galactic, etc. They all have fun enemies and maps, but their guns and gunplay are super engaging and entertaining with actually incredibly unique abilities, especially KF2/DRG.
To keep the game fresh we NEED to be able to use as much of our arsenal as possible, and of course people want to play high diffs for a challenge. But the challenge is already there. At diff 9 you are pretty much constantly fighting at least 200+ enemies at all times. So why does it matter if my primary is good? I'm not saying I should be able to gun down a bile titan or a hulk, but it felt GOOD to beat back hordes of medium bugs with the sluggers stagger, it feels good to do the same with the dominator, and it would feel good to bathe waves of enemies with electricy using the Blitzer. But we can't if we want results. And it sucks. We have to choose between fun and progress in a lot of cases.
On top of this, I am now under the impression that we are just going to have to expect this every single month. AH spends hundreds of hours crafting a warbond, advertising it, and dropping it, for us to pay/grind for it, grind hours for medals, to unlock these guns, and just have a steaming pile of sh*t in our hands for thanks. My trust that my time and money will be respected enough to at least give me a useable gun for my effort is going away. I mean seriously. LESS THAN A MONTH FOR DD TO BE RUINED and RIGHT before the new warbond. Who's to say the same thing doesn't happen for June's warbond? I will gladly fork over $ and time because I love this game, I appreciate their non-predatory microtransactions, and I do have fun. But at least take care of us too man.
Another thing is that they change WAY too much, WAY too fast, from knee-jerk reactions that ruined the railgun to the myriad of changes that led to DD being scuffed, I think they just don't think changes through or go slow enough to make sure they are the right changes. Don't even get my started on their inability to give us accurate patch notes ("slightly" reduced, my ass.) or their consistent miscommunication, refusal to revert changes, and general tone deaf responses. This may also be partly because the discord is just a giant echo chamber full of cry babies and white knights that the devs rely on for input.
Overall, at the end of all my yapping, I just want to be able to bring more guns onto the battlefield without feeling like i'm putting myself at a major disadvantage. I want to buy warbonds without feeling like i'm getting scammed just to be forced to buy the next one. If this is too difficult, at least intentionally rotate the meta every so often so we can enjoy everything.
I'm not even gonna get into the boring, repetitive armor abilities, transmog, and strategem balancing which I could fill a book about. But these could use some major love too, to spice up the game (stealth warbond with supressed weapons when?).
If you made it this far, thanks for reading and I hope to see your input below, whether or not you agree. Just don't be a prick if you can manage it.
And P.S. , Arrowhead, if anyone of you see this, I love you, your game, and for the love of god please add shaders / skins for guns and armor. I'd gladly pay anywhere from 50-175 super credits for weapon and armor skins. Basic colors, yellow and black helldiver themes for the armor that doesn't have it, SEAF themed, faction themed (bug, automaton, etc). Like I would probably buy $20 worth of credits to buy skins for my favorite stuff if you let me. Literally asking ya'll to take my money so please consider it. Thanks again, goodbye

2024.05.08 11:46 Acadia300 7 & half years. Young and toxic. Can I change?

7 and a half years over
Me (M24) and my GF (F24) started dating when we were 17. We ended things in the middle of March this year.
Some background:
My GF suffered with severe Bulimia and Anorexia for the first 5 years of our relationship (She probably still does as I’m aware it never truly goes but she got much much better). I didn’t recognise it at the time but looking back I’m very proud of how I stepped up for her during this period. Taking days off work to go to therapy with her, taking countless crying phone calls while travelling to help her through rough periods and just generally putting her first.
During our relationship, I massively struggled with communication. I used to resort to stonewalling. Not through any conscious effort to manipulate her in any way, but it was my default defence mechanism. Over the first 6 years, I made gradual progress and was able to communicate more openly. However, I’ve always recognised in myself that I need time to be calm and collect myself before trying to have a healthy conversation on whatever it was that we argued over. My GF found it really difficult to give me this initial space as when left alone, she would spiral. Essentially, I need time and she need’s a resolution straight away.
During these years of learning how to be more mature, there were many times that during an argument, I would name call. I understand how awful and immature this is. Sure, I understand why I did these things and although I’m trying to forgive myself, it still doesn’t make it okay. The name calling was never done with intention and was rather (what felt like) and involuntary reaction. I’m talking about this with my Therapist as I feel the root cause of name calling must be coming from some deep routed insecurities of my own.
This name calling obviously caused damage to my Ex over the years and while I worked hard to help build her confidence in her body and towards food, I was at the same time, tearing it down in other areas.
She mentioned to me at the end of Jan this year that she thinks I am a Narcissist, Sociopath or Psychopath. I had considered these things in the past but didn’t want to believe it. When she said it to me, how could I believe anything else? (became a self fulfilling prophecy at this point). She asked me to see a therapist to work on these issues.
I am fortunately able to afford a top rated Psychotherapist. He does not think I am any of those things (had about 10 sessions so far). I love therapy and will continue with it as it helps me so much.
Just after I started therapy, she said during an argument that HER therapist said I was the cause of all of her issues. I can distinctly remember this moment as a light switch being flicked in my head. All emotion drained from me and I just didn’t care anymore. I spent the next 5 weeks trying to understand how I felt and was considering breaking up.
Due to the length of our relationship, I wanted to try everything before calling it quits. The last thing to try was couples therapy. After telling her how I was feeling (unsure, confused and emotionless) she agreed (while obviously very upset but not totally surprised).
The next day I come home from work and she says that she doesn’t want to try and that she doesn’t think it will help (ironic considering she asked me to go). So while it was technically a mutual and amicable breakup, it feels like she broke up with me (is this me trying to be a victim?)
I moved out of our flat and back home with my parents (I work hybrid). I didn’t feel much for the first 3 weeks and knew the worst was to come. Well I was right, the last 3 weeks have been very very hard and some of the toughest I’ve ever had to deal with. I apologised via text (regret this) and she said she has nothing to say to me and wants to keep comms to about the flat moving forward. During the next week I had severe anxiety as I always read on here ‘if they wanted to, they would’. I didn’t want to let any chance of us making it work go by incase she was telling herself the same thing.
I texted her a location that I would be waiting at on her way home from work (out the way and not an ambush). She declined to meet and asked me to respect her wishes of no contact.
I understand that there’s nothing more I can do now. It sits with her and it has to come from her.
I guess I’m writing this because I see a lot of posts from Women talking about how seemingly narcissistic people are incapable of change. Is this all a front that I’m putting up to feel like I’m changing when I’m not? I journal everyday, I’ve started volunteering every Sunday to stay in touch with my empathetic and vulnerable side as I don’t want to lose touch with that side of me as that’s what caused us to fail.
Has anyone dealt with anything similar? Or has anyone seen their partner make changes for the better with or without reconciling?
Thanks everyone. This is very weird for me as I learn to be more open.
