2024.05.08 07:01 anannimoosee My childhood friend destroyed my trust, but I can't stop wanting to forgive them.

This is a throw away account. I've been trying for years to talk to people, therapists, family. I always come up short, or feel disgusted with myself at even the thought. Growing up I had a best friend, a childhood friend, we did everything together. They had my complete and total trust. I even started developing a crush on this person, but they preferred my sibling over me. I was always left behind, until my sibling got older and did not want to come outside to hangout with us. (They were both a year older than me). So we started spending almost all our time together. We ran from big spiders we found in the wood, threatened to push eachother in creeks, and played baseball and football together. They even caught me when I was crossing an old rotting log and fell. As well as when we went cliff diving by a river, the current mixed with my heavy work pants dragged me underwater and they helped me swim to shore. Regardless I trusted my friend with my life. My everything. As we grew up we talked about getting together. Once again they changed their mind and chose to date my sibling. (Red flag I know). My sibling was never meant for long distance. So they quickly ended things to which I stepped in. I confessed to my friend after we went on a hike and I fell. They helped me back and started bandaging up my leg when I decided to tell them how I felt. We weren't together immediately. Actually we never truly dated. They constantly compared me to my sibing, and even though we never did anything sexual that's all they talked about. (I see the red flags everywhere here too). Things got super uncomfortable, this wasn't the person I knew, so we decided to stay friends. We continued to hangout. To which they made moves to hold hands, sit closer, and even asked for a kiss. I rejected all their offers, and pushed back. Until one day we were playing games (me, my sibling, and my friend). It was my siblings turn and my friend dragged me off the couch and we started wrestling around. (As we typically did). Things lead poorly and I got sexually assaulted. Reacting by punching my friend in the eye and going to yell, but they grabbed me by the throat and started to crush it. I had never seen my friend so violently angry. Then they had an odd look of relaxation, and they silently got up and left. I was shell shocked. Immediately I told my recent romantic partner. That's the only person who knows the full story. It took me nearly 2 years to get into all the details. I know my friend did me wrong. I know I should never forgive them. They haunt my nightmares, make me fearful of all friendships, ruined my interests towards certain things. Overall my life has been greatly driven by fear after this event. I trusted this one person and in 2 seconds flat my life was in their crushing hands with nothing behind their eyes. But I feel so much of the blame, I feel like it was my fault, and I should have talked it out with my friend before completely dropping it and moving on. My still romantic partner thinks I should have talked to my friend about it in a secure setting. I want to move past the whole thing, and maybe even forgive my friend. Put it all behind me. I also want to make my friend hurt, and realize what they ruined for me. I've thought of writing them a letter explaining things. But I also just want to drop contact and ensure they never get led on that I am making moves towards them. (For refence all of these events happened over a year ago and still weigh heavily on me and my day to day life)

2024.05.08 06:55 Known-Contract-4340 Football fans: Would you rather see Dortmund win or Harry Kane finally win a trophy?

Dortmund the underdog, Reus’ last game with club, etc..
Bayern the giant, but with fan favorite type players near the end of their careers (Müller, Neur, etc.), as well as Harry Kane who could potentially win the ultimate trophy as a footballer

2024.05.08 06:52 TwelfieSpecial Help me understand Sorare

I’m a game designer and love football games. I’ve downloaded Rivals and so far I like the experience, although I found the FTUE (first time user experience) not enough to help me understand the different modes and screens and clarify my player goals. I had a few questions: - is PvP and choosing specific matched the only way to play Rivals? While the other mode is where you can build a team from players in multiple matches? - it wasn’t immediately obvious why I would want cards in my team that I need to purchase. Why would I want a better card of a player that I can pick for free? Does it give me more points? Does this make the game feel pay to win?
More generally, in addition to the novel strategic elements of gameplay (tactics) and more accessible squad picking (not having to pick 11), what do you love most about Sorare compared to other fantasy sports games?

2024.05.08 06:45 whatiwillsay How's AT&T's coverage these days in Maine?

I did the hundred-mile wilderness in 2018 and Verizon was a must to get any kind of coverage (and at times it was so good I could stream football games!)
I'm on AT&T now and headed out to do another 40-50 miles south of Monson. I know coverage can be spotty anywhere on the trail but I'm wondering if AT&T has improved!
Thanks in advance, happy trails.

2024.05.08 06:34 UnitedPalpitation6 Game froze after last win.

I went 11-9. The game froze after the win. I had to reset the game, and it said I disconnected. I couldn't do anything. The game was stuck. I had to reset. It says I went 10-10. I can't deal with this game. It freezes a lot. I think I'm done. If EA doesn't fix this and give me the correct rewards I put hours into getting, I'm done with this game. The gameplay sucks anyway. I had to rant. I'm so fed up with EA. We need a better football game by a different company.

2024.05.08 06:29 Bubbafett33 People actually have to watch ESPN?

I’m a Canadian, and we have elite broadcasters for our games….
While patiently awaiting the Oilers, I tuned in to the Avs/Stars game, and…OMG!!??
Between Leah Hextall and … is that one-word wonder Messier?? What?
I feel like I’m watching hockey in some alternate universe…are there people that only get ESPN?? No wonder NHL has such a small USA fan base after…high school football? Also, no shot clock, why?
Is there a charity I can donate to? As a Canadian I’m sorry, and want to help!

2024.05.08 06:28 Techweeb15 My boyfriend died

So… the boy i was ranting about in the previous post passed..
After i had written the post i ghosted him and he eventually came up to me asking what was wrong and i told him. After that everything was great. Im very busy during and after school hours, because Im in the band and during this time we had a lot of football games, but he would wait for me to be done so we could hang out. I loved him and He told my friends he loved me day before.
August 20 6:43, i was in practice and a boy next to me has said that someone had died and they had his name. I didnt believe it so i left practice and called his roommate. It was true. He had overdosed in his dorm room. He was gone. My first love was gone and I didn’t know until later on in the day. I was inconsolable for weeks and depressed in the months that followed.
Im writing this post to get advice. Ive been going for a while but now that I’m away from school and the distractions his absence is all i can think about. The regret, the could’ve, the what ifs is killing me. I miss him and i dont really want to live anymore. I miss him so much and i can’t hide it anymore.

2024.05.08 06:00 Depressymedstudenty Best way to get football tickets?

Hey y’all!
I’ll be transferring into WVU in the fall (I’m a Floridian) and I have family that want to come up for the UCF game. So far, it looks like seatgeek is the only way to get several tickets all together but I wanted to know if there was an easie more “traditional” way to get tickets not through a third party. I don’t see anything on the WVU website under football tickets.
TIA!!!

2024.05.08 05:59 SkateSessions I won't be buying another EAFC game...

I love football. But this game isn't fun.
Pay to win teams are in every rank. There is no casual rivals, if you don't have at least 8 high level SBC players or chase packed cards you will be out paced and out played physically all game, no matter how technically sound you play the game you will lose.
And then once you finally invest enough time and or money into the game, you still lose to terrible CPU controls where your players rarely go where you expect them to, to comical bounces where you can defend the ball a dozen times in a row and it bounces right back to your opponent each time, or 90th minute penalty kicks awarded because the CPU fouls in the box for no reason...
The game is exploitable (cut backs are a goal cheat we literally used in EA NHL 1998) and full of toxic players. I won't be buying a new one.

2024.05.08 05:48 Lord_Autumnbottom College Football's Transformation & Professionalization

I’ve been fascinated with the on-going demolition and remaking of college sports – and college football, in particular – for the better part of 2 decades now. Basically, dating back to a few years after the inception of the BCS. And this post (and comments) on Defector prompted me to finally jot down my (always scattered) thoughts which follow…
A lot of the absurdity of the situation is pretty well encapsulated in Cardale Jones’ tweet from 2012:
"Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS."
And what wasn’t captured in the tweet itself was probably picked up in the giant pile of hot takes it spawned. But, however inelegantly stated, at its core is a basic truth: These guys are NOT going to Ohio State or Miami or Auburn or Florida State or any number of other FBS schools ranging the academic spectrum from UCLA to Mississippi State. I might possibly be willing to make exceptions for Stanford and certainly would for the service academies. But the rest?
And let’s be honest, the average football player is NOT an academic colossus. Sure, there are occasional exceptions (Like… this guy: John Urschel) and it’s not to say they are stupid people but the reality is that most people find it very difficult to hold down a full-time job that requires travel AND a full-time class load. The reality for football scholarship athletes – particularly in the upper tier of the Power 5 conferences - is a lot like trying to do that. And people like John Urschel are simply exceptionally gifted human beings both intellectually and physically. He's a +3 standard deviation person with respect to both intellectual and physical talents. Most people are lucky to be +1 at one thing. (But I digress.)
So what does college football look like if it is fully “professionalized” or the similar state of no longer being an amateur sport? These aren’t really the same things. Kind of like legalizing as opposed to decriminalizing in a way.
If you’re fully professionalized do you end up with NFL minor league teams just associated with colleges? Does the sport end up with a championship game of the Seattle Huskies (in purple & gold unis) vs. Ann Arbor Wolverines (in maize & blue)?
Sometimes I think that what is really attracting the local boosters is the dream of being a team owner. I imagine it’s the same weird feeling just “more” as the people that are “shareholders” of the Green Bay Packers. A lot of these guys are very rich – but usually not NFL team owner rich. So instead they get to role-play like they are with college teams and players for whom the local magnate's wealth level is impressive. To think this is a modern phenomenon is ahistorical; anyone who’s watched the 30 for 30 on the Pony Express and the shenanigans at SMU can tell you that boosters have been throwing money around forever.
You have several different and inter-related blocs in the college football universe:
- The Players: these guys usually want to go to the NFL. Most of them are wrong, sort of by definition. They are not going to be professional football players. It is obviously to their detriment that many do not care about college since they have often found their way into fairly selective academic institutions, but youth squandering opportunity is a tale as old as time.
- The Fans: they usually have a different relationship to their teams than the average NFL fan by dint of having spent some of their most formative years often in the (literal) shadow of the stadium. Not to mention probably having dropped anywhere from $50-200K+ in tuition depending on when & where they went to school. It’s much more tribal and competitive. There was a hilarious recent incident where the Texas stadium went bonkers when the Big 12 commissioner came out at the Texas Tech game and they just absolutely roasted the guy on the Jumbotron playing back his recorded statements hoping that Tech would defeat the Longhorns. That kind of petty hilarity is just not something you see at the NFL level. But the reason these incidents do occur has a lot to do with the intense relationship fans/alumni have with their schools and teams.
- Athletic Departments: I feel like this is where things start to get very, very interesting. After all, the devil is in the details right?
- The Universities & Colleges: While the athletics departments are parts of the institutions they are more often than not supported by the institutions themselves via allocations of student fees, etc. See here: (https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances)
- TV networks: Obviously, the TV rights revenue is the fuel in the engine. What happens with this stream of dollars is purely a reaction to how the intensity of the fans is altered if players are simply contracted.
- NCAA: lol. These vultures have been slowly obsoleting themselves for decades now. That said, they will cling desperately to the NCAA tournament which is really their last major source of revenue. Other than that, in a newly professionalized reality they have literally zero function in terms of rules enforcement. Unless they can somehow morph themselves into the enforcer of the new rules that are akin to those in the NFL like player tampering and such.
- The NFL: Another interesting player. In one sense I think they would not be too worried, assuming this newly professionalized league keeps the player pipeline flowing. But if they can’t – and given the history of the USFL, XLF, etc. - I bet the NFL will be very, very sad. It wouldn’t surprise me if they have lots of behind-the-scenes discussion trying to slow down the destruction of what remains of amateurism.
Other related questions:
Note: somehow I managed to delete this post from just before March Madness kicked off, but luckily had it saved. So now it's reposted!

2024.05.08 04:59 Goodhearted_Jake So is this natural or is this something I need to work on.

So I’m going to come out and say it, I find Asians attractive. Not to say that I don’t find people of other ethicists beautiful or attractive as well. But growing up my dad and brother teased the hell out of me for it just because I saw one beautiful Asian girl at a football game or something and they never let it go.
And yeah I watch and enjoy anime but that’s just because I’m a nerd who likes that stuff. I’m not one of those weirdos who is super into their culture and wants to be it, it’s fascinating but it’s not mine. Mine is unfortunately just imperialism.
I just felt like it’s something I should be ashamed of because i got made fun of for it. I don’t want to be but at the same time I’m afraid that maybe this is some like……weird subliminal racist shit or something that I need to address.

2024.05.08 04:35 lolam74 Now that players are getting paid. At what point can we as fans start demanding longer seasons

The pretext that Division 1/P4/P2 athletes are college students or amateurs has gone out the window in the era of NIL and the transfer Portal.
if your comfortable with 22 year cj stroud playing 17 NFL games, there no reason why you shouldnt be comfortable with 24 year old Bo nix playing 15 CFB game
There is clearly a market for more college football. when will it be filled.
I see no reason why we cant have a 15 game regular season. it would solve a lot of scheduling issues.

2024.05.08 04:28 jobless_wanderer 24M - Here looking to make new friends

Hi everyone.
I'm looking for online friends, I have no specific requirements except being an adult (18 and above), I'm more comfortable with that.
I want to start by saying that I love animals of all kinds, they are beautiful and lovely when they come in all shapes and sizes, also I have 5 cats. I'd keep a dog too but cats are easier.
I am into sports, to keep my body moving 😅, I love Football and usually play it each evening with some friends. I like to cook however I mostly make healthy alternative dishes to help me on my path to achieve my fitness goals. I workout because it's like a therapy for me and makes me feel and look great. Let's motivate each other in the gym! Skincare is a passion of mine, and I'm always looking to try new products.
History and historical fiction are my interests, especially ancient epic tales, medival battles, paranormal stories and last stands. The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones are my favourite. I'm sometimes into gaming, particularly RDR2. Despite a full-time job as a software engineer, I can be a good listener when time allows.
Don't be shy to hit me up.
