Roleplay and D&D ruined - A toxic friendship

2024.05.20 02:37 Gck02 Roleplay and D&D ruined - A toxic friendship

Hey! This post is mainly about roleplaying online, but there are things involving D&D too. I hope it is okay to make a post like this! If anyone wants to use this story for their video, feel free to.
Disclaimer: I talk about self worth a lot, and how I harmed myself mentaly by thinking how worthless I was. Also there is a subtle mention of my self harm past. Just in case someone has problems being confronted with this!
Disclaimer 2: There is a transphobic comment coming from a person, that I don't see as to bad, but some might see as worse than I do. Also there is transphobia towards genderfluid people, so look out for yourself.
Disclaimer 3: This person is NOT transphobic, but they were pretty uninformed and unsensitive. This doesn't make it better, but I clearly want to seperate transphobic statements from being actively hateful towards trans people.
So I was roleplaying ever since 2016, when I was 14 years old. A few years later, I met a guy, which I'll call Chris in the context of this post. Our first time meeting online was tied to some drama. For roleplaying, we made wikis for our characters, and often would use existing characters from games and medias as a design reference. When I used a reference, Chris was really pissed, because he announced that he would use this character a few dqys ago, and I was already writing a character with that as their reference. I knew he planned that, and didn't say anything, thinking it would be better to just speed it up. Dumb decision of me, rough start, but soon we'd get along. It was pretty fun, we were both sorta the memeish people, and he seemed to be a nice guy.
We soon became friends, after I went into an RP break. During that break I needed to sort things out, due to covid and my outing as a trans fem, and a difficult relationship with my parents. I had a bad case of... thoughts and it hurt my self awareness, and self view on my "worth in life", but once that was sorted out, I decided to play again, and went into a older Roleplay, hosted by Chris. There were still some leftovers of lacking self love, though it got eventualy better during roleplay. Soon I realized that Cris and I would argue often about the simplest things. I decided it was not a big deal, and we would get passed these issues, sometimes without resolving it, sometimes with me being able to lay my stubborness away, which I am not proud of. In the cases in which he started the fight, I sometimes felt gaslit into thinking that I was the problem. It hurt my vision of my own worth, and I started to skill evasion, to not talk about certain things, just not to get reminded of how "worthless" I am. Sometimes I told Chris about this issue, and he'd be empathetic, but calmly said I need to work on it. He had a lot of self love, it felt like he couldn't understand my issue, but I don't know anything specific, after all I can't look into someones head. I think he meant well, but it felt unsensitive, and unempathetic at the end.
The roleplay he hosted took place in a big world, with a really awesome lore, not only in terms of world building, but also in terms of characters and species. The big issue I had was, that Chris introduced enemies to me, that he planned to be introduced in the roleplay way later, while he planned more and more main enemies to exist. As far as I know, the first main enemy still is the main enemy, despite being introduced for almost 4 years now. And paired with his situational motivation to roleplay (which is completely fine generaly, but then we'd need a solution for the main enemies), and his and my tendencies to create character after character (I had 63 characters for that roleplay), we never got to progress, and instead thickened our own characters plots.
One situation was pretty odd. When coping with trans discrimination, I often write stories or characters, that faced these problems too. That way I often felt like I could make it out of my strange situations too. I made a character that I was really proud of, gave her a trans fem backstory, that was one of the better one's I have written at that time and made her a badass, etherial bookworm with magic powers. Chris said that her issues with her trans discriminatory parents would be unrealistic, due to the utopic monarchy they'd live in, and because his queen character could change trans peoples bodies if they'd like to, by using magic. It was honestly weird, because I didn't know if he was supportive there, or unsupportive in that moment, but I know that it made me sad, and I stopped making her trans identity imoortant to progress the plot between her and her parents. This was also a character he often talked down, and Chris often stated his dislike towards her. (That was not of transphobic background, he just didn't like her character and I guess her skill set)
I also made a character that could shift from male to female, and the other way around, based on the skills used. It also was a solution for me wanting to use two design references without having to chose one, and dable into non-binary umbrella story writing, and play a genderfluid person, because I never did that before. After researching on those gender identities, I was hyped to try it out. He also stated, that he thought her being female-only would be cooler. My mind told me, that we potentialy would have this conversation more often, so to not get annoyed by him later on, I changed that person into a cis-female, which I think was really sad.
We had a solidified group of 5ish players that often did stuff together on discord. Sometimes some other people would join our discord server and talk. Daily roleplay players were peaking at... idk 10-15 players probably. Chris, me, and Arin (a friend of us, not his real name) often would hangout in the discord, talk about the roleplay and some funny, silly stuff. Memes were made, we made fun of each others characters (consentualy) and talk about nerdy shit often. At one point, we'd make silly tier lists, which I sometimes took to serious, because most of them were just silly stuff and I got offended by those... which I am also not proud of and have apologized for.
The only exception in which things were rather weird, were the power scale tierlists. My characters usualy got ranked into the higher middle spots, but sometimes I felt like Chris would talk some of them down a little. Having some characters be weaker was sometjing I was always open too, sometimes I would make younger and unexperienced characters after all. Even if he didn't talk down on my characters (which is possible too, those tierlists were subjective after all) then he definitely did with others. Other players characters we wouldn't regularly play with, were seen as weaker, which I thought was weird. Knowing all of those characters was impossible, because there were 120ish at the time, but they were still ranked, and the tierlists were publicaly posted in the roleplay chat. Some people got offended by that, which I can understand.
There was some out of rp stuff too, that annoyed me about Chris. Often it was about being the #1 simp of media character X, Y, Z... you name them. It got pretty out of hand, but once I told him directly, that I think that this attitude was annoying, and that he can't look at other people and be like "Yeah, this person doesn't love my waifu as much as I do", and that it was a weird thing to rank ik the first olace, it got quiter in that region.
Sometimes we argued about music, and he tried to come off as more informed as me, a metal/death screamer, and djent guitarist, with music theory as a hobby. And I'm not trying to say he couldn't, but he said some very uninformed stuff, and tried to gatekeep... I guess the subject "Favorite music"? by saying stuff like "People who don't know their favorite songs lyrics obviously don't have that as their favorite". That statement is weird, because as a guitarist, in some songs I pay more attention to the guitars more, than the lyrics. Especially because I have ADHD and often get distracted when trying to listen to song lyrics. We both regularly listened to japanese music too, which we both can't speak nor understand. It'd bring me down into thinking, that I might not be a great musician, or that I was to radical when someone hurts my feelings, or simply says something weird and uninformed. But I showed this to other friends, and they said that I was not. Even Arin often would find the reason for the arguements rediculous, and 9/10 times it was coming from Chris.
Arin would soon start to feel like me and Chris fighting would be nothing unusual, and that was a reality check for me if I ever had one. At some point, I realized when I got into a different discord server, and was being more involved with my real life friends again, that something fell off in the friendship between me and Chris. But at that time, me, Arin and Chris prepared a pirate setting D&D campaigne, which I was extremely excited about. I used to play D&D when I was 15-16 years old, and remembered having fun, so getting back to it was a great thing for me. I made a female babarian, weilding a sword and a axe, with a high roll of 15 strength, and was really happy with her. Her backstory was sorta basic, but it was still tragic and it was good enough for me to enjoy. I roughly remember, it was about her losing her family, and her becoming a mercinary, that would be part of a two people pirate crew now, because she got payed to.
All of this was for nothing though. Me and Chris fought again. The fight was about a word, that I used in a romantic context, him not knowing the word, and after googling the definition, thinking it couldn't be used in that situation. Both of us would get stupidly mad. He said some really hurtful shit, saying that I would weigh my friendships now, and that my new friends would be more important to me now. Me, Chris and some other frienfs had a Gartic Phone session coming up, hosted by me, and we didn't talk before or after that, because I told him that I need distance to sort things out. But sorting things out would mean to finally distance myself from him this time, and thus I ended the friendship.
The D&D campagne dropped, I spent more time with my other friends, and... never got to play D&D ever since. (It's been 2 years now) The same campaigne was DMed by Arin later on, when his girlfriend took my place instead. I can understand Arins decision, and we are not in bad blood, he is still my friend. Yet it felt like a kick in the face, because all my friends would have a campaigne now, and I was left in the dark, noticing people get to play D&D left and right. And his girlfriend told me that she thought Chris was really exhausting to play with too. To be gair though, I never adressed this issue with Arin, because he is constantly DMing for 2 years now, in a group with Chris. I feel like telling him this would make things either worse, and it feels like I'd pushy.
What was worse though, I talked to Chris nearly every day, leaving me with a feeling that something really important was torn away, because I ended the friendship. It felt like I did something stupid again, and I felt worthless again, until I got told otherwise. I tried coming back to that specific roleplay multiple times again, and roleplay with a friend of me and Chris, even trying to be in contact with Chris again. He has definitely changed, but after a few weeks of contact, I decided we couldn't stay in contact, and slowly let the contact slip away from us, without starting any fight. Any attempt for roleplay is ruined for me now, but I think I'd give D&D another try.
I definitely did some stupid shit too, because I got really emotional. But after building a wall between me and Chris, I noticed that a lot of the crap in our friendship was not just coming from me. That I was allowed to love myself too, and that he gaslit me often. I'm not sure if I ever get back to pure roleplay, but after 2 years, I am willing to give D&D another chance, after feeling left out for such a long time now.

2024.05.20 02:27 MyahYou [5e] [Online] [18+] Looking for a group!

Information - female age 25, about a year total experience with D&D 5e and tons of hours and years spent in games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Dragon Age, Skyrim, Elden Ring. I know my medieval fantasy lol.
Looking for: - Online game - maybe once or twice a week sessions - A group that’s new and starting at level 1-3 together or really early on. I don’t want to join a group already like tight knit and close and ongoing for a while. It’s just harder in my opinion to fit in that way :) starting at the same level of knowing each other on equal footing is great! - 18 plus ONLY group - Medieval high fantasy plot/setting - Can take or leave homebrew races/gods etc. but would prefer them to be allowed as I have 4 character ideas and two require a bit of (fair and DM approved) homebrew. - Roll20 and discord for voice chat sessions preferred but willing to try dnd beyond. - This is the big one: I’ve had issues in the past with people in dnd groups who are easily offended and triggered over everything, and I would truly love to find a group where everyone can handle adult themes and topics (self-harm, mental illness, violence, SA, etc.) without someone making a huge deal and also not every single joke or conversation ending in someone offended or making themselves a victim. I hate walking on eggshells with everything I say or do, and I’m in the middle of the road politically/socially so I mean from either side!
Time: I’m EST and can play at pretty much any time and adjust.

Directors at the Box Office: Clint Eastwood (Part 2)

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The first part was posted yesterday.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)¨

"Beyond his silence, there is a past. Beyond her dreams, there is a feeling. Beyond hope, there is a memory. Beyond their journey, there is a love."
His 25th film. Based on stories from the 2000 collection Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner by F.X. Toole, it stars Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. The film follows Margaret "Maggie" Fitzgerald, an underdog amateur boxer who is helped by an underappreciated boxing trainer to achieve her dream of becoming a professional.
Paul Haggis wrote the script on spec, and it took four years to sell it. The film was stuck in development hell for years before it was shot. Several studios rejected the project even when Eastwood signed on as actor and director. Even Warner Bros., Eastwood's longtime home base, would not agree to a $30 million budget. Eastwood persuaded Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg to put up half the budget (as well as handle foreign distribution), with Warner Bros. contributing the rest.
The film had an incredible run in limited release, breaking many records for Eastwood's career. It eventually earned a fantastic $216 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film ever. It received critical acclaim, and it was named as one of his greatest films. It won four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Swank), and Best Supporting Actor (for Freeman). Eastwood became one of the very few directors to make two films to win both Best Picture and Best Director.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $100,492,203. ($166.8 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $216,763,646.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006)

"A single shot can end the war."
His 26th film. Based on the book written by James Bradley and Ron Powers, it stars Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, John Benjamin Hickey, John Slattery, Paul Walker, Jamie Bell, Barry Pepper, Robert Patrick and Neal McDonough. The film follows the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima, the five Marines and one Navy corpsman who were involved in raising the flag on Iwo Jima, and the after effects of that event on their lives.
The film received positive reviews, but it bombed at the box office with just $65 million against its huge $90 million budget.
  • Budget: $90,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $33,602,376. ($52.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $65,900,249.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

"The completion of the Iwo Jima saga."
His 27th film. Based on Picture Letters from Commander in Chief by Tadamichi Kuribayashi, it stars Ken Watanabe, Kazunari Ninomiya, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Ryō Kase and Shidō Nakamura. It's a companion film to Flags of Our Fathers, and portrays the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers.
In the process of reading about the Japanese perspective of the war for Flags of Our Fathers, in particular General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, Eastwood decided to film a companion piece with this film, which was shot entirely in Japanese. The film was shot back-to-back, starting filming just one month after Flags of Our Fathers wrapped filming.
Despite being seen as the least accessible of both films, this film was much more successful at the box office than the previous film (including a colossal $42 million in Japan alone). It also received critical acclaim, particularly for how it handed the depiction of good and evil from both sides. It received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
  • Budget: $19,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $13,756,082. ($21.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $68,673,228.

Changeling (2008)

"To find her son, she did what no one else dared."
His 28th film. It stars Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, and is based on real-life events, specifically the 1928 Wineville Chicken Coop murders in Mira Loma, California. It follows a woman united with a boy who she realizes is not her missing son. When she tries to demonstrate that to the police and city authorities, she is vilified as delusional, labeled as an unfit mother and confined to a psychiatric ward.
The film earned $113 million worldwide, barely breaking even at the box office. The film received mixed reviews, but Jolie received praise for her performance. She was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress.
  • Budget: $55,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $35,739,802. ($52 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $113,398,237.

Gran Torino (2008)

"Ever come across somebody you shouldn't have messed with?"
His 29th film. It stars Eastwood, and follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran alienated from his family and angry at the world, whose young neighbor, Thao Vang Lor, is pressured by his cousin into stealing Walt's prized Ford Torino for his initiation into a gang. Walt thwarts the theft and subsequently develops a relationship with the boy and his family.
The film received great reviews, as well as praise from the Hmong community. It ended up becoming a sleeper hit, and it earned $270 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film.
  • Budget: $25,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $148,095,302. ($215.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $269,958,228.

Invictus (2009)

"His people needed a leader. He gave them a champion."
His 30th film. It stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Following the aftermath of the apartheid, President Nelson Mandela decides to unite his people by supporting a rugby team in their bid to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
The film earned $122 million worldwide, barely breaking even. It received positive reviews, and Freeman and Damon received Oscar nominations for their performances.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,491,364. ($54.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $122,426,792.

Hereafter (2010)

"Touched by death. Changed by life."
His 31st film. It stars Matt Damon, Cécile de France, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lyndsey Marshal, Jay Mohr and Thierry Neuvic. An American with a special connection to the afterlife, a woman with a near-death experience and a young English boy, who lost his loved ones, cross paths in an effort to find closure in their lives.
Despite mixed reviews, it managed to earn $107 million, turning a small profit.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $32,746,941. ($47 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $106,956,330.

J. Edgar (2011)

"The most powerful man in the world."
His 32nd film. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, and Judi Dench, and follows the career of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, focusing on Hoover's life from the 1919 Palmer Raids onward.
The film received mixed reviews; while DiCaprio received praise, the technical aspects of the film were criticized. It earned $84 million, making it a box office success, but far below what DiCaprio usually makes at the box office.
  • Budget: $35,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,306,030. ($52 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $84,920,539.

Jersey Boys (2014)

"Everybody remembers it how they need to."
His 33rd film. Base on the 2004 jukebox musical, it stars John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken, and tells the story of the musical group The Four Seasons.
It received mixed reviews, with praise for the musical numbers but criticism for the narrative and runtime, and failed at the box office.
  • Budget: $40,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $47,047,013. ($62.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $67,647,013.

American Sniper (2014)

"The most lethal sniper in U.S. history."
His 34th film. It is based on the memoir by Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice, and stars Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. The film follows the life of Kyle, who became the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history with 255 kills from four tours in the Iraq War, 160 of which were officially confirmed by the Department of Defense. While Kyle was celebrated for his military successes, his tours of duty took a heavy toll on his personal and family life.
In 2012, Cooper and Warner Bros. bought the rights to the memoir. Cooper wanted Chris Pratt to star as Kyle, but WB told him they would only greenlight the film if he stars in it. After Kyle's murder in 2013, Steven Spielberg signed to direct. Spielberg had read Kyle's book, though he desired to have a more psychological conflict present in the screenplay so an "enemy sniper" character could serve as the insurgent sharpshooter who was trying to track down and kill Kyle. Spielberg's ideas contributed to the development of a lengthy screenplay approaching 160 pages. Due to Warner Bros.' budget constraints, Spielberg felt he could not bring his vision of the story to the screen. So Eastwood was brought in to direct.
The film attained a solid, but not extraordinary response from critics. It also attracted some controversy over its portrayal of both the Iraq War and Kyle himself.
The box office though?
To say that the film had a fantastic run would be selling it short.
It opened on Christmas Day in 4 theaters, and it earned a huge $633,456 ($158,364 PTA). But the following weekend, it actually increased despite playing at the same amount of theaters, adding $676,909. That translated to a $169,227 PTA, becoming the highest second weekend PTA in history for a live-action film. And on its third weekend, it earned $579,518 ($144,879 PTA), becoming the first film to have three weekends above $100,000 PTA. In the 22 days it played in just 4 theaters, it earned $3,424,778.
On its first wide weekend, the film shook the industry by opening with a colossal $89 million. That was almost as much as the other 2014 blockbusters, and given that the film didn't have 3D pricing, it's very likely it sold far more tickets than them. It broke the January opening weekend record by twice as much, and the second biggest for an R-rated title. With insane word of mouth ("A+" on CinemaScore), this film had the legs. In less than one week, it became Eastwood's highest grossing film domestically. On its second weekend, it dropped just 28% and made $64 million, which was the biggest second weekend for an R-rated film (a record it still maintains) and crossed $200 million domestically. And by March, the film overtook The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 ($334 million) as the highest grossing 2014 film in North America.
After an insane run in theaters, it closed with a gigantic $350 million domestically, which made it the second highest grossing R-rated film in North America. Overseas, it was also very strong, and it made a huge $547 million worldwide. It was easily Eastwood's highest grossing film, even adjusted for inflation. One of the greatest box office runs in recent memory. It received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor for Cooper, ultimately winning one for Best Sound Editing.
The biggest surprise of the 2010s? Perhaps. Cause let's face it, when 2014, did any of you had this as the top film of the year? Or even in the Top 20? Please.
  • Budget: $59,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $350,159,020. ($463.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $547,659,020.

Sully (2016)

"The untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson."
His 35th film. Based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles, it stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Anna Gunn, Autumn Reeser, Holt McCallany, and Jamey Sheridan. The film follows Sullenberger's 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River, in which all 155 passengers and crew survived and the subsequent publicity and investigation.
The film received strong reviews, and earned over $240 million worldwide, becoming one of his highest grossing films.
  • Budget: $60,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $125,070,033. ($163.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $243,870,033.

The 15:17 to Paris (2018)

"The real heroes."
His 36th film. Based on the autobiography by Jeffrey E. Stern, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler, and Alek Skarlatos, it stars Stone, Sadler, and Skarlatos as themselves and follows the trio through life leading up to and including their stopping of the 2015 Thalys train attack.
Despite choosing Kyle Gallner, Jeremie Harris and Alexander Ludwig as the leads, Eastwood decided to cast the heroes to play themselves, which was met with confusion as they lacked acting experience. And that was reflected on the final film; it received negative reviews for its acting, and it bombed at the box office.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $36,276,286. ($45.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $57,176,286.

The Mule (2018)

"Nobody runs forever."
His 37th film. Based on the 2014 The New York Times article The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule by Sam Dolnick, it stars Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest, and Andy García. Due to financial issues, horticulturist Earl Stone becomes a courier for a drug cartel. Slowly, he grows closer to his estranged family, but his illegal activities threaten much more than his life.
It received good reviews (although some questioned its story and tone), and earned over $173 million worldwide.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $103,804,407. ($129.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $174,804,407.

Richard Jewell (2019)

"The world will know his name and the truth."
His 38th film. The film stars Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, and Olivia Wilde. The film depicts the July 27 Centennial Olympic Park bombing and its aftermath, as security guard Richard Jewell finds a bomb during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and alerts authorities to evacuate, only to later be wrongly accused of having placed the device himself.
The film received positive reviews, but several journalists criticized the critical portrayal of the reporter that first accused Jewell: Kathy Scruggs (specifically for trading sex for stories). The film marked another commercial failure for Eastwood.
  • Budget: $45,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $22,345,542. ($27.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $44,645,542.

Cry Macho (2021)

"A story of being lost and found."
His 39th film. Based on the novel by N. Richard Nash, it stars Eastwood and Dwight Yoakam. Set in 1979, it follows a former rodeo star hired to reunite a young boy in Mexico with his father in the United States.
Nash tried to get this film made all the way since 1970s, but no studio was willing to pick it up. He restructured his films as a novel, was successful and studios were now interested. There were a few candidates for the leading role; Robert Mitchum, Roy Scheider, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Eastwood himself. Arnie was willing to star in the film back in 2003, but put it on hold when he was elected Governor. He was set to star after leaving office, but the project was scrapped after his affair scandal was made known. In 2020, Eastwood signed to return.
The film received mixed reviews, particularly for its writing and acting. It was also a huge flop at the box office, and marked Eastwood's least attended film as leading man. David Zaslav criticized the studio's decision to finance the film. Warner executives allegedly said that although they knew the film was unlikely to turn a profit, they felt indebted to Eastwood for his decades-long relationship with the studio and his consistent ability to deliver films under budget and on time.
  • Budget: $33,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $10,310,734. ($11.9 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $16,510,734.

The Future

He recently wrapped post-production on his 40th film, Juror No. 2. It stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, Zoey Deutch, Leslie Bibb, Chris Messina, J. K. Simmons and Kiefer Sutherland, and follows a juror serving on a murder trial who realizes he may be at fault for the victim's death.

Across those 39 films, he has made $3,536,687,297 worldwide. That's $90,684,289 per film.

The Verdict

Insanely profitable.
Even the bombs do not taint this kind of reputation. Eastwood has made all these films under budget and never past its deadline. That's something that has to be treasured for studios, no wonder he's been staying with Warner Bros. since 1976. His ability to get films ready in short notice is impressive; Richard Jewell started filming in June and it was on theaters in December. One of the most impressive actors who transitioned into directors. You can tell that Sergio Leone and Don Siegel taught him well.
Now of course, his method of directing can also have its setbacks: he's often known for not asking for multiple takes and he skips rehearsals. So that means the performances of his actors aren't always the best they could've done. Which is why, despite making some masterpieces or fantastic films, he's also made a few films with weak technical aspects: poor lighting (J. Edgar), questionable logic (Cry Macho), obvious props (the fake baby in American Sniper), and some bad acting (Gran Torino and The 15:17 to Paris). At the same time, it's clear he can also get extraordinary performances through these methods; Gene Hackman, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman won Oscars for starring in his films.
He also proved old age doesn't prevent you from continuing to work. He's turning 94 in a few weeks, and he's still directing films. Manoel de Oliveira directed films until he was 104, so perhaps we still have a few more years with Eastwood behind the camera.
P.S. Ever since I started this series, there's been suggestions that I should do "Actors at the Box Office" multiple times. While the idea is intriguing, that doesn't seem feasible for me. I'd have to categorize whether the actor is leading, supporting, original IP, adaptation, remakes, etc. Besides, with the continuing decline of star power, it's tough to decide what actor is truly moving the needle at the box office. That's why I'm making solely "Directors at the Box Office", because the director is responsible for the production. If the film succeeds, the director will get credit. And if the film flops, the director will be blamed. So this is the closest you'll get to "Actors at the Box Office".
Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Robert Zemeckis. One of the biggest falls from grace.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. It had to be a controversial filmmaker. Well, we'll later talk about... Zack Snyder. Oh, BoxOffice chose fuego 🔥
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
May 20-26 Robert Zemeckis Can we get old Zemeckis back?
May 27-June 2 Richard Donner An influential figure of the 70s and 80s.
June 3-9 Ang Lee What happened to Lee?
June 10-16 Zack Snyder RIP Inbox.
Who should be next after Snyder? That's up to you.

2024.05.20 01:37 Lordfindogask I wish the Scourge being Optimus theory was canon.

This is one of those times in which I dig a fan theory, and with some small tweaks to RotB plot, it could have fit nicely.
Quoting the TF wiki, Unicron is referred to as a Multiversal singularity, capable of destroying entire universes, and that so far he destroyed something like 22% of known Universes. So, ignoring the effort of Nexus Prime to cease these singularities from existing, it wouldn't have been too difficult to connect the Bayverse and new universe. The fact that Megatronus Prime joined Unicron means that even Primes can be corrupt and the unhinged, destructive version of Optimus from the Bayverse would be a perfect candidate. Heck, he saved Unicron from being killed, maybe the god of destruction could be "thankful" in his own way? XD (Also, I don't buy the whole "let's go back to cybertron and take care of it now" at the end of TLK).
Below are the main changes.
Aesthetic changes first:
KEEP MORE AUTOBOTS DESIGNS FROM THE BUMBLEBEE MOVIE! Specifically Wheeljack. No moustache for Stratosphere. Furthermore, Optimus with a face plate always on would be nice. In both cases, you're saving resources by reusing assets and skipping Optimus' mouth animation, and you get happier fans, it's a win-win. Lastly, Bumblebee has his voicebox repaired between Bumblebee and RotB. We had enough beep-boop Bee.
Plot changes:
No need for wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. The Maximals go straight up to another universe. Their whole reality is likely obliterated by Unicron, but it will be briefly implied that either they thought Unicron died long ago or that this Unicron is different. So to starve Unicron they had to seal him into a universe to prevent him from continuing his endless path of destruction.
Now to give the fan theory some thematic importance, let's make the new Optimus and old Optimus different and by that I mean let's establish that the new Optimus won't enter the same path Bayverse Optimus took.
When Ariazor meets the Autobots, after Bumblebee is deactivated, she explains they come from a different universe, one in which Autobots and Decepticons set their differences aside and evolved into Maximals and Predacons (the Predacons we see at the beginning are rogues that joined Scourge). But when Unicron came, all their attempts failed, even using the Matrix of their own Universe wasn't enough to stop him. With their Universe now doomed, the Maximals tried to seal him away, but failed, and crashlanded on Earth. The transwarp key was lost in the process and they only recently found out it was broken in two parts.
Optimus will still say he wants to take off Scourge's head, only this time some of his fellow Autobots will remark that they never saw him like that.
Instead of shooting an infecting device to corrupt Ariazor, Scourge will fire a red beam from his chest, but he has his back to the audience so we don't see exactly what he used, for now.
When facing Scourge and corrupt Ariazor, Optimus Primal asks how did he manage to break the seal between universes, only to be interrupted by a furious Optimus Prime who shouts Scourge's name and say he's going to rip out his spark. Scourge sends Ariazor to deal with them and Primal is forced to kill her.
Primal addresses shortly after that Prime is taking a dangerous path (I know it's pretty basic "hatred leads to dark side" stuff).
Battling Mirage, Scourge doesn't lose his mask/helmet, but it's just partially crooked. He quickly readjusts it.
Later, Bumblebee is resurrected, but Optimus still seems to be bent on revenge, fighting with rage, which only seems to amuse Scourge. Optimus still cuts both of Scourge's arms but rather than "Time to show you the real power of a Prime!" he says something more similar to Bayverse Prime. He then either tries to rip Scourge's head off or just repeatedly punches it in a fit of rage and as a result the helmet falls off, revealing the twisted but still recognizable shape of Bayverse Prime. Optimus is taken aback by the realization that Scourge is a Prime from another universe. Scourges opens his chest, revealing that the red glow throughout the film was coming from his Anti-Matrix, basically a red Bayverse Matrix after he became corrupt, (that's what made this Unicron stronger). He uses the Anti-Matrix to fire a beam that hurts Optimus and pushes him back, and then to attract a couple of nearby Terrorcons that quickly transform into replacements for Scourge's arms.
REVENGEANCE HOMAGE INCOMING
Scourges says he could kill Optimus but he sees potential and offers him to join them (join me or die, fits Bayverse Prime), promising that Unicron will spare the lives of his comrades / grant them more power than ever imagined / cease all conflicts in all universes (kind of true in a twisted way).
At that moment, while the corruption is slowly spreading over his body, Optimus stands up again and says "I now see how wrong I was". Scourge's eyes glow and an evil grin appears on his face. Optimus slowly walks closer to Scourge and says that he now realizes he has been following the wrong path. While Optimus is referring to the path of revenge, Scourges thinks Optimus is really going to switch sides, so he opens his chest again, ready to corrupt Optimus' Matrix. In the meantime, the Maximals and Autobots look horrified, Primal even begs Optimus to resist, but seemingly to no avail. Optimus extends his hands, and Scourges happily shakes it. Optimus gets closer, pats Scourge's shoulder, and then finally says "This belongs to a friend of mine!" and rips Autobot's symbol from Scourge. Scourge is like "WHAT?!", still shocked. Optimus kicks him and then says "Time to show you the real power of a Prime", opens his chest and uses his Matrix to destroy Scourge's Anti-Matrix. Scourge is furious, but Unicron is even more. Without the power of the Anti-Matrix, Scourge is finally outmatched by Optimus, as he's kicked into Unicron's vortex and disappears.
The last change is that when Unicron offers Optimus anything he wants Optimus says "then, begone!" and uses the power of the Matrix to light their darkest hour and destroy the transwarp key.

2024.05.20 01:28 billiebopeilish Dramas with characters and narrative momentum like The Hope (2023)? or any dramas with a character similar to one of the specific characters in The Hope? (or motivational ones in general)

note: This is really wordy but I have too many thoughts about this show and am so excited to continue with similar shows! Feel free to scroll down to (***)
I am a little past halfway through The Hope, which I started watching because I had nothing better to do (and because Zhang Ruoyun always delivers). I had no expectations coming in and thought it would be something like Go Ahead or maybe Gen Z, Dr. Romantic (kdrama), etc. so I thought it would be a nice drama about family, friend, and mentor relationships. Nothing could have prepared me for how blown away I am by the writing, realistic depictions of traumas/abuse/mental illnesses that both the teachers and students experience.
I love cdramas but I have never seen characters so fleshed out and alive than in the Hope. I have never cried so many times and so frequently when watching a cdrama. The stories are so compelling and everyone's narratives get told without me feeling like skipping the "boring" one, because all of them were so real. The cinematography, screenwriting, acting, soundtrack, and plot are genuinely among the best I've seen in cdramas, so I can't believe this isn't universally watched in the cdrama community!
I did not share every character's experiences, but I felt like I could relate to so many of them. There was no one-dimensional backstory for any of the students--they were all so alive and I cried when they cried, laughed when they laughed, felt pain when they felt pain.
I really like all sorts of dramas and very much enjoy all kinds of modern/historical romcoms/action/youth dramas. Coming-of-age dramas are also great, and the really good ones take a lot of emotional effort to even watch (which is a good sign). Sometimes I like to watch something motivating/inspirational, like sports or campus/youth cdramas where the main characters are depicted as the underdog or fueled by determination and passion for a sport or subject. I really enjoyed ones with a good balance in emotional depth of relationships and passion/competition/grit: top ones would be Hikaru no go, Cross Fire, and The Heart of Genius (mostly first half), Oh no! Here comes trouble (Taiwan), Rising with the wind; also liked Ping Pong life. There are other good ones (but spend more time with romance/less focused on the main character's passion or usually depicts their passion for sport/academic subject in the context of the romantic interest for the plot): Skate into Love, You are my hero, You are my glory, lighter & princess. I also like historical cdramas (liked Joy of Life, Mysterious lotus casebook, Legend of Shen Li a lot) but I just find modern ones more realistic when it comes to something motivating.
I am still in school so recently I've been looking for motivating cdramas that would show main character(s) fighting for their passion. i.e. if the setting is a campus, one that focuses wholly on a character's devotion to an academic subject, or for a sports drama, one that doesn't just have a stadium backdrop but actually shows them overcoming training obstacles. I also appreciate when it's realistic and the relationships they build don't just occur in that environment (like where the only thing they share is an academic or sports goal; maybe they start out like that but they want to actually understand each other outside of that competitive zone). Though not the most realistic, I have a soft spot for "genius ML/FL" characters -- not the obnoxious perfect cold romcom ML that happens to be academically gifted in every STEM field (and whenever they exhibit that, it's just them calculating something at the speed of light) -- but rather ones like Li Ran and Cheng Yushan in The Hope, or just very talented/hardworking characters like Xiao Feng and Lu Xiaobei in Cross Fire. I actually like dramas with romance in them, but there is an issue with them where whenever one character is some kind of genius, it's always the ML. Or if both characters are very smart, the ML has to somehow be on a different level of academically gifted. The closest I got to finding a FL who is on par with the ML or better is a) historical dramas like Journey to Love and My Journey to You where the FL is better at fighting/scheming (or smarter in the practical sense like Minglan and Imperial coroner and b) Heart of Genius, but the ML is still the one with some kind of God-given talent for math.
The Heart of genius was really great in fleshing out the FL and her relationship with her father and made me cry multiple times, and it made me start looking for something super niche and not a typical cdrama trope: genius FL (specifically math?) -- where the drama will actually try to portray her relationship with the subject and growth inside and outside academia. It's such a strange request, so I didn't really have any hopes of finding dramas or new upcoming releases with that kind of character. I broadly searched for FLs in STEM since math is also very specific, and if there was no romance, I was also ok with a ML who loved math, as long as that's what the drama focuses on. I had to pause The Hope when Lei Ming first meets Cheng Yushan and he realizes she's not just smart, but also a math genius, because I couldn't believe I found something impossible that I had been looking for (but had no hopes of finding). It was motivating on a different level, since this drama was already so inspiring academically. As someone also studying math in college, I saw myself in her avoidant tendencies, closed-off personality and how she takes time to warm up to friends, but prioritizes her friends over everything after getting closer to them. I loved small things that showed her kind (but never timid) personality, like when Yu Yang joins Class 11 and she defends him without hesitation. She is so strong and doesn't succumb to peer pressure or prioritize romantic relationships over her relationship with her mom, friends, teachers, and math. She somehow checked all of my boxes, the most impossible one being a top student in math second to none, and I never see a FL in STEM where the drama focuses on her studies and also consistently doesn't try to make a ML superior in talent. She motivated me to want to grow as she did, to work and care for my friends like her. I couldn't collect my thoughts after seeing this genius female character in math who is so well-written and acted, where the other genius male student in physics/robotics (Li Ran) neither outshines her nor somehow has a more complex narrative of his academic field compared to hers, depicting not just her happening to have amazing math intuition but also showing her hard work, traumas, relationships, growth, while not straying away from her abilities & passion for math.
(***) TLDR / The main point after all my yapping above:
Can anyone recommend a drama that is similar to The Hope not necessarily in terms of the plot, but rather how inspiring it is as a result of the complexity and character portrayals? Or (this is much harder since I imagine only The Hope has done this with specifically math) does anyone know of any cdramas where the FL is genius-ML-level type of genius in some sort of field? If there is an ML, he could also be extremely smart, as long as if it's the same field as the FL, he's not somehow more gifted, and if it's a different field, it's not something "more STEM" than the FL--I loved Li Ran in The Hope. Could be a sport, academic subject, etc. (I think I am just bored with dramas where the FL has some sort of unique business sense or something) Bonus points if it really is STEM!
(Now I go back to studying for my exams and praying for some nerdy writer to pitch my dream genius math major FL cdrama so I can be delusional about next school year lol)

2024.05.20 01:24 Starr-knot Marvel or DC Superhero RP!!

Hey! I'm STARR (All caps as a reference to MFDOOM the rapper) and I'm looking for a superhero based RP!! I'm looking for a fun romance roleplay set in the universe of DC, Marvel or our own kind of made up universe. I'm looking for a mix of action and romance, with romance being the main theme. I don't really play canon characters, but I would really like to do an OC x canon character roleplay with anyone willing to play a canon character from DC or Marvel, but I'm not against doing OC x OC! I just have to really like the characters lol. I really like Spider-Man (almost any version tbh) and would like to do a RP based around Spider-Man or even the Spider-Verse! My personal favourite Spider-Person is Hobie/Spider-Punk, so I think a RP with him would be fun! I do have plot ideas made and can play multiple characters! My kind of character would be kind of like the trope of a non-hero dating a hero. I would love a story including your character hiding their identity from mine for their own safety. For DC I don't really have a preference for characters since I am less versed in my knowledge of their characters, so I am open to any suggestions for what character you would like to play! (same with marvel too, it doesn't just have to be Spider-Man, it can be any hero you suggest as long as I like them too). I do really like in character Batman and Superman, so if those were ones you'd like to play sure! I mainly do LGBTQ+ pairings, but I am open to doing hetero relationships. please send me a dm if interested!!

2024.05.20 01:23 Insert__Text [5e][Discord] A Conspiracy in the Capital - A roleplay heavy game of investigation and politics as a team of mercenaries hunt down a conspiracy of cults, nobility, death, and demon summoning

Prosperity, the capital city of The Imperium and the beating heart of the great empire. The Imperium is a continent sprawling empire in the midst of a magical and technological revolution. The Empress marches at war, the High Council stronger than ever, Imperial might unmatched, and in the heart of its grandest city a dark infection has taken root.
A dozen dead, a ritual of blood and murder, a manor desecrated, and something infernal having crawled into this realm and vanished. You've been hired to investigate and with every thread you pull you realize the plot grows ever more deep and complicated. Conspiracies, cults, monsters, and perhaps worst of all, politics. Can the plot be solved before utter chaos is unleashed in the imperial heart.
You're a member of The Tower Company, a well established company of hired swords centered in Prosperity and the central Imperial regions. The Tower Company has mixed reputations on the good they accomplish but they are efficient, deeply connected, and always fulfil a signed contract. Their interests and abilities are widespread: mercenaries, guards, specialized soldiers, criminal elements, diplomats, spies, investigators and even a well earned reputation in defeating otherworldly entities. The Tower Company draws their ranks from all walks of life and professions; as long as you're good at what you do and are trustworthy.
A team gathered from within and without the city for the purpose of seeing this job through. Will you and your team be enough to see to complete it?
Hello! I'm looking to gather a team of four players willing to post at least once a day and ideally more; post length ideal of at least a paragraph if in short conversation but with longer, more intensive posts as well. I've had games die out due to players not posting consistently so I'm gonna try to be on the ball with this game and keep it rolling. The game will be roleplay heavy with a lot of investigating and mystery but with plenty of fun and interesting combats. I want people who will want to interact with the world and get immersed and will also want to interact with the fellow players and characters to create the story.
The game will be investigating cults and secret societies with connections to otherworldly threats like Demons and Devils. There will be darker, heavier vibes with danger, horror, and some gore and grime. It won't be all edgy and dark; with plenty of opportunities for some lighter hearted moments and heroic, adventurous moments. It will be set in a populated, magically industrial city with magic, darker entities, politics, corruption, and danger throughout.
Hope I can get some interesting players who will be committed to playing a fun game and creating an awesome story.

2024.05.20 01:22 Animeking1108 When real life traumas are used as karma for antagonists

It's one thing when we see villains get shot, blown up, or erased from existence. They don't suffer long, and their cause of death is so fantastical that we don't see it happening in real life. However, some debate when karma goes too far. Notable examples include Diavolo's infinite death loop in JoJo Part 5, Jason getting ripped in half by the Upside Down gate in Stranger Things, or Sally petrifying Gabe with Medusa's severed head in an implicit premediated murder in Percy Jackson. However, I think karma can be at its worst when their karma is a real life trauma. I'm not talking about getting killed in self-defense or by their own mistakes, but rather things like sexual assault or abuse.
One example of what I'm talking about is in Durarara! with the character Izumii Ran. Now, Izumii is by no means a nice guy. He's a thug who broke Masayomi's girlfriend's legs, threatened to rape Earthworm, and was an abusive older brother to Aoba because of envy for all the attention their parents give him. So, it would take a lot to make such a vile piece of work unintentionally sympathetic. Well, we get just that in his and Aoba's backstory. After one beating too many, Aoba got back at him by setting his room on fire, which made his parents think he was smoking. When Izumii claimed innocence, his father punches him square in the nose and makes it bleed. And Aoba looks at this with a smug grin on his face. So, not only was Izumii abused, rather violently, by his father, which could very well explain his violent behavior and prove his claims about his parents favoring Aoba correct, and yet we're supposed to see this as karma for bullying Aoba. It doesn't help that the light novel doesn't show us the full extent of how bad Izumii's abuse towards Aoba really was, and the anime just made it a passing mention like he slapped him for taking the last Hot Pocket, so we're just supposed to take the narrative's word for it that he made the brother from Magical Girl Site look like Yu Narukami. If we actually saw the abuse or at least got some indication that he hospitalized Aoba, I can sort of understand why. So, it really just makes Aoba look like a petty, spoiled brat.
My next example happens to Eric Cartman from South Park. Now, Cartman should have been sent to prison ten times over throughout the course of the series. Even making Scott Tenorman eat his parents is a stolen candy bar compared to what he's done since, like using Cthulu to go on a killing spree. Of course, most of the major characters have done something awful by this point. Kyle got Canada nuked, Stan killed a bunch of whalers, Kenny threw a ninja star in Butters' eye and got away with it, Randy became a hitman for the Chinese Government, Gerald trolled a woman until she killed herself, Wendy got a substitute teacher murdered out of petty jealousy, and all of the boys burned their pre-school teacher alive and framed a classmate for it. Cartman just had a higher bodycount (probably). During the Post-COVID specials, we get a glimpse into the future for what happened to the boys after they drifted apart. Kenny became a billionaire, while Stan and Kyle became depressed loners. Cartman turned his life around, converted to Judaism, and was even the only one of the boys to actually have a family. While he conspired to ruin the time travel plan to keep the boys from drifting apart, he ultimately decided to risk his happy life for a better future. So, in the better future, Stan and Kyle are now living happy lives, but Cartman has become a deranged hobo. He's so far gone mentally that he can't even form a coherent sentence for more than two words. Even for Cartman, that was a depressing image to look at.
My final example comes from Harry Potter. Now, I speak for everybody when we say Umbridge was that side villain we hated more than the actual villain, like Shou Tucker, Joffrey Baratheon, or Suguru Kamoshida. Imagine if the teacher everybody at your school hated ran Guantanamo Bay. However, in the end, she was mainly a roadblock for Harry before the climax at the Ministry Of Magic Headquarters. So, how is she dealt with? Well, Harry and Hermione take her to the Forbidden Forest, and after hurling one insult too many at the centaurs, they drag her away into the woods, and Hermione's expression shows that she knew what was going to happen to her before coming in. When we next see Umbridge, she isn't visibly injured, but what happened to her was so traumatizing that she blocked it from memory, and she would get PTSD attacks at the sound of clopping, which Hermione and many others abuse maliciously. There has been a lot of debate as to what really happened to Umbridge, especially after JK Rowling's rather controversial views came out. Now, if you know your Greek Mythology, you'd know that centaurs were notorious rapists, due to having the horniness of men but with the restraint of an animal. Combine that with Umbridge's trauma, you can see why some people think the Centaurs went to town on her, and considering JK Rowling had a degree in literature, she had to have known this. If not, then this was really poorly planned on Rowling's part. Even if Umbridge wasn't raped, it's still kind of fucked up how she gets taunted for her PTSD, even if she was a sociopath who mutilated children. That'd be like if Zuko taunted Azula during her breakdown at the end of ATLA.
In conclusion, even karma can be poorly delivered to a real piece of work of a character, especially when that karma is something that can traumatize everyday people. The punishment has to fit the crime.

2024.05.20 01:20 hemlockandhoney {F4A} Medieval, Western, The Boys, The Witcher, V:TM Prompts

Introduction
My name is Ash and I'm a twenty-seven year old midwesterner with over ten years of writing experience and countless half-baked ideas. I average between 200-2,000 words depending on the nature and pacing of the story and I'd definitely categorize myself as the sort of person who will make playlists, Pinterest boards and dedicated discord channels for miscellaneous information if the pairing holds a special place in my heart.
I have no preference for the gender I play as I predominantly play male characters but am happy to play a female or an array of side characters for the story and will possibly double if the plot is inspiring. I am mainly looking for MxF pairings but can be flexible.
I'm most comfortable collaborating with people who are at least twenty-five or older.
My primary method of communication is Discord but I wouldn't mind communicating via Reddit DMs.
Genres & Plots
My favorite genres are modern fantasy, supernatural, sci-fi, romance, post-apocalyptic and gothic/horror. I rarely, if ever, do fandoms with the exception of The Boys/Gen V, World of Darkness or The Witcher. For The Boys, I'd prefer playing as or writing against Homelander, Butcher, or an OC. For the Witcher, I'd prefer to use OC's. Below are a few plot ideas for the aforementioned fandoms:
The Compound Escapees: Both experimented on as children, your characters escape a hidden Vought compound, their memories fragmented and powers unstable. They must navigate the harsh realities of the outside world, unraveling their pasts and finding a way to control their abilities before Vought hunts them down.
Dog's Dinner: A 'retired' Supe, blacklisted for refusing to follow Vought's orders, joins forces with Butcher (and The Boys) to expose a Supe breeding program creating monstrous hybrids.
✨ The Witcher and the Warden: A Witcher accepts a contract that points them in the direction of a grove. Upon entering, he finds that reality has warped and in order survive, he forms an unlikely alliance with an elf who is also trapped within. Together, they unravel the ancient secrets of the grove, facing vengeful spirits, monstrous guardians, and a sinister plot by a rogue mage to exploit the forest's magic for personal gain.
Revelations in Neon: Under the glittering façade of Las Vegas, two Kindred forge an unlikely alliance. As they delve deeper into the city's dark underbelly, they uncover a conspiracy at the heart of the neon and sin, forcing them to choose between personal passions and the fate of generations to come.
Below, I've included a few original plot points that are completely malleable. Feel free to build upon them or present your own.
The Depart of Paranormal Affairs: In a bustling city where the supernatural run rampant, two individuals join forces as investigators specializing in supernatural cases. Together, they delve into the hidden world of mystical creatures, uncovering dark secrets, solving paranormal mysteries, and navigating the complexities of their own personal lives which become entwined with the fantastical.
Ashen: After a cataclysmic event mutates the remaining population into grotesque creatures, two unlikely allies form a tenuous alliance to navigate the hostile post-apocalyptic world. As they confront prejudice and distrust from both humans and mutants, they seek to understand the cause of the mutation and uncover a dark secret that could change the course of their fractured world.
Shadows over the Prairie: In the Wild West, a pair of bounty hunters finds themselves pursuing a notorious gang of outlaws rumored to possess supernatural abilities. As they chase the ghostly criminals through desolate canyons and cursed lands, they must grapple with their own beliefs about the paranormal. Drawn together by a series of eerie occurrences, they form an unlikely partnership to solve paranormal mysteries, navigate dangerous encounters, and possibly uncover a greater conspiracy that ties their abilities to the fate of the frontier.
The Tourney: In a medieval kingdom, a grand tourney is announced, promising not only glory but also a mysterious and powerful artifact to the champion. Knights from distant lands arrive, each with their own secrets and ambitions. As the tourney unfolds, strange events occur. A knight is found mysteriously injured, another disappears, and rumors of sabotage and dark magic spread. Amidst the jousts and swordfights, a hidden conspiracy begins to unravel, involving a secret society seeking the artifact for nefarious purposes. Two individuals must join forces to uncover the truth.
The Arena: On a distant planet, an intergalactic gladiator arena broadcasts battles across the cosmos. Combatants, both willing and enslaved, fight using advanced tech and weapons. A new recruit, falsely imprisoned, seeks to win not only the championship but also a chance at freedom. Along the way, alliances form, betrayals sting, and epic battles ensue.
The Vow: A king’s guardsman is tasked with escorting the princess who is secretly a powerful mage, though this fact is unknown to the guardsman. The king has decreed that she must be taken to a distant, sacred temple to fulfill an ancient prophecy, which is believed to be the key to saving the kingdom from a looming, mysterious threat.
The Unseen: A disgraced monster hunter stumbles upon a hidden guild peddling forbidden arcane knowledge. His estranged mentor resurfaces, claiming the guild's experiments are unleashing unseen horrors upon the city. With the help of a mysterious character, the monster hunter must infiltrate the guild's opulent masquerade, exposing their secrets before exposing the city to the creatures they conjure.
The Arcanum Academy: Accepted into a prestigious mage academy, two apprentices must navigate the complexities of magical studies, face rival students, and uncover the dark secrets buried within the academy's walls. As they learn to control their magic, they shape their destinies and unravel a grand conspiracy threatening the realm.
*Below is a passion project I've been working on for a while. It isn't necessarily a plot but a western/horror themed setting where magic and monsters are common. If it sparks an interest, please let me know!
Red Vale
Nestled at the foot of the imposing Bloodstone Mountains, Red Vale once thrived as a bustling mining town during the gold rush era. With its picturesque wooden facades, the town boasts a prominent clock tower overlooking a sprawling central square, saloons with swing doors that creak in the wind, and a network of old mining tunnels woven beneath its surface.
For years, the residents of Red Vale mined a unique, deep-red ore called "crimsonite" that was believed to have properties unlike any other mineral. It was said to gleam brighter under the moon and was much sought after for crafting jewelry, enhancing magic, being a power source and spellcraft material, fetching high prices in distant markets.
However, in recent times, the once-prosperous Red Vale has gained notoriety for other reasons. As the crimsonite veins ran deeper and rarer, miners began reporting strange occurrences within the tunnels: ghostly apparitions of old miners, eerie whispers echoing from the depths, and shadows that seemed to move of their own accord. Some miners never returned from their shifts, with search parties finding only abandoned tools and lanterns.
Above ground, things started to take a turn for the eerie as well. Local legends spoke of the "Blood Moon Rituals" — on certain nights, when the moon turns a deep shade of red, supernatural events peak. The town's water source sometimes runs blood-red, livestock behave erratically, and dark shadows seem to roam every corner.
As more and more unexplained phenomena plague Red Vale, the town has seen a new influx of visitors — not miners, but ghost hunters, paranormal researchers, and thrill-seekers. The locals, a hardy and resilient bunch, have mixed feelings. Some believe the town is cursed due to the over-mining of crimsonite, while others surmise that the spirits of the mountain are reclaiming what is rightfully theirs.
Whether it's the allure of the supernatural or the remnants of its rich history, Red Vale remains a town shrouded in mystery, where the veil between the living and the dead seems ever so thin.

2024.05.20 01:10 thatgirlwinter7357 (F4A) JJK RPs!

Hello everyone, I have 3 plot ideas set in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe that I'd love to play out. I'd prefer to do them with OCs (and have my own original characters in mind for them)
Plot 1: Foreign Affairs
While most of the history of Jujutsu Sorcery stems from Japan, there have been sorcerers and curses users from countries all around the world. Most curses however are found in Japan because of ancient traditions. And the strongest curse ever found outside of mainland Japan, was only a first grade. Thus the protection of humans in other countries was left to their small pool of local sorcerers. However... A special grade curse has appeared in the United States, already it's wiped out two 1st Grade Sorcerers. However, one American sorcerer stepped up and was able to defeat it, earning them the honor of being the first foreign Special Grade Sorcerer. Now they are tasked with starting a Jujutsu school to raise a new generation of sorcerers who can protect humanity.
-In this we would have a mentor character and a cast of students. I'm happy to play either the mentor and a student or two students if you have a mentor character in mind.
Plot 2: The Child of Prophecy
During the Heian period, the famous sorcerer clans were high and mighty above all others. The Zennin Clan in particular were quite powerful with their shadowy techniques. However in a small village a woman named Yuki Kura was born. Her cursed technique was called Luminance: the ability to generate and imbue light with cursed energy. While she was moderately strong, likely a second grade in modern rankings, the Zennin Clan wanted more from her. The potential of mixing a light based, and shadow based inherited technique had potential to make a sorcerer of legend. Yuki was forced into marrying a promising young sorcerer from the Zennin Clan, however Yuki made a heavenly pact that no child of hers would be a sorcerer, not until a descendant was born strong enough to live freely. Now a thousand years later... A descendant of Yuki was born with the power of luminance.
-This plot is based around a specific OC of mine, if you couldn't tell by her elaborate backstory. This plot/character could be added on to the other two plots, but I like the idea of this prophesized girl having to learn from an old master. With a focus on her getting stronger and learning.
Plot 3: Can a Curse be Allowed to Live?
Curses are seen as a natural evil, like earthquakes, and typhoons. A horrible threat to humanity that must be stopped as much as possible. However, could a curse... Help humanity? Could a new curse be guided from its distructive nature and become a sorcerer?
-This one also follows a mentostudent dynamic. I have 2 characters in mind for this RP a girl who's the daughter of a human sorcerer and a cursed spirit. Or a newly formed cursed spirit, the android-like Future Curse
Please message or chat me if any of this sounds interesting! Thank you for reading!

2024.05.20 01:04 TDragonsHoard [Online][SWADE] Hiring mercenaries! Apply within! Savage RIFTS, Mondays

Hello! Thank you for taking a moment to read my little advertisement here.

I am aiming to run a Savage RIFTS game, on Monday evenings. The game itself will be around 4ish hours, give or take, and be weekly. Voice only as well, though I can easily set up a channel for people to have in character communications throughout the week.

As for setting, RIFTS is….it’s over the top. Essentially any character concept can be applied to RIFTS, within some level of reason. It is where magic meets tech, all in a nice post apocalyptic wrapping.

For the game itself, the characters will be freshly hired mercenaries into a larger mercenary company. Located in the New West, around what used to be known as Colorado. The game will be a bit more mission focused at first, as I want to give everyone a chance to learn the game. From there though, it will be something more sandbox in nature. I have plot lines for the group to follow if they wish, or the group can simply decide to do something different! Ultimately, it is all about having fun here. So, I am purposely leaving the premise of the game simple in nature.
Get hired, take missions, make money. From there, see where the group wants to go.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please do apply! I know that forms are something that nobody likes filling out, but they allow me to collect information and put it all in a single place. Just makes for easy book keeping.
So to apply, please fill out the following:

2024.05.20 00:59 Meghanlomaniac Timeline of Narcissist MIL, do I confront her with my boundary or just disappear?

(First time poster )
So, I don't know where to start on this one, but I'm having a hard time processing this situation and need help. I did start seeing a therapist but it's been a while so I guess I should go back, but here goes.
I met my husband roughly ten years ago and his Mom seemed ok for a while. When we were dating, she even invited me to do paint nights with her which I thought was nice. She did like to gossip a lot to me which in retrospect I see now was a 🚩#1.
Things seemed ok until my BIL got into a new relationship, and his girlfriend came clean with me: She asked me how my relationship is with MIL is and I said it was ok, why? And she proceeded to tell me that MIL gossips and talks badly about me non stop. Especially after coming back from visiting my house. BILs girlfriend was uncomfortable with this and told MIL that this was mean and uncalled for and even before she met me she felt bad for me and thought we'd get along, because she too had been victim to bullying and this is what this felt like. MIL responded with "you don't know her".
Anyways she told me the kind of things MIL was saying about me and it was not nice. Basically she would observe any kind of issue or conflict in my life but emphasize it to be super critical with absolutely no empathy and often full on lies to make me look bad and I now understand, to turn my husband's siblings against me. Which she has from the beginning of my and hubby's time together (2014).
For example, in 2021 we moved to a new city so we could buy a house and uprooted my 3 yr old daughters entire life. She had a hard adjustment and picked her face for a while (it was also summer so mosquito bites are what started it) she also regressed and wet the bed for a bit. She then adjusted and was just fine.
MIL turns this into "OP is anxious and is making her daughter anxious" Her daughter is anxious and it's OP's fault". I haven't suffered with anxiety for a while. It was only the year we got married, and I was better with medication. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Nor did I share any of my mental health struggles with MIL so she's making an assumption at best.
She complains that I'm lazy and do not do housework or cooking to her satisfaction (she was a SAHM and I am not). I should mention hubby and I have a 50/50 type deal with household and child minding. We both work. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I asked my hubby respectfully to never fight with me in front of MIL but he has, And like a snake in the grass she then tells everyone all about it, but turns it into something it wasn't. Not lying per se but emphasizing the dysfunction without any empathy or recognizing her own sons role in all of this.
My husband for his part has been very hesitant to set boundaries with her, but also emotionally keeps a distance from her. Then a few years ago, he told me MIL was responsible in the past for breaking up his relationships with other girlfirneds by making his partners feel uncomfortable 🚩#2.
It appears that recently the lies and gossip has been escalated. She makes me feel uncomfortable in my own house. I catch her darting dirty looks at me and then when I notice this, she switches it to giving me a fake smile.
She has no poker face and I sense the hostility whenever she's around.
The only time I let her clean my house without me getting up was when I was very pregnant with my son and exhausted. Yet she still tells anyone who will listen how lazy I am.
Last time she was over, I asserted myself more and would be firm with my boundaries. I also made it clear when her opinions were wrong / uncalled for.
It was this past winter and she took it upon herself to clean my back porch (we don't have a garage and it was messy). I told her to please stop cleaning my back porch. She explained she was here to help so she might as well help. I said I would rather she didn't. She asked why. I said because it feels like judgment. After a pause she said well you're family so you don't need to feel that way. When I told my hubby he was shocked and complained that she was supposed to be visiting her grandchildren (who were sitting in the other room, alone). She seems more interested in passive aggressively making me feel like I can't keep house. Again, I WORK FULL TIME. I have two small children and I do what I can. My house is far from a disaster, but I'm sure the crumbs you can see on my floors are enough to warrant her disapproval.
Overly judgemental and appears not to "approve" of me for her son 🚩3 and 4.
The worst recent situation was thrifting with MIL, which used to be the only thing we could bond over. I took my daughter and while shopping, she carelessly grabbed at a teacup I was buying and it smashed on the floor. As a Millenial who is trying very hard to gentle parent (despite the fact I was never taught self regulation by my boomer parents) I got on her level and told her that it wasn't ok to do that in the store and to observe the consequence. My daughter usually doesn't do stuff like that, and she felt bad so she burst into tears. I then spend time holding her in a hug and comforting her until she felt better. Employee came by and told me not to worry about paying for it as it was an accident. MIL immediately went home and told BIL and BIL gf that I yelled at my daughter in a store and made her cry. That was NOT what happened. In fact I'm positive if I had been permissive and not disciplined her in the store, she would have bad mouthed my parenting as well. This time I let BIL know that his mother lied about this situation and I'm incredibly frustrated and angry with MIL.
BIL is strongly enmeshed with MIL and his willingness to believe MIL opinions as fact is one of the reasons his relationship with the present girlfriend fell apart. He's also an alcoholic and refused to stop or get help.
I suspect the reason MIL tries so hard to destroy my character and BIL GFs character is because she does not want any attention on her and her horrible actions.
She secretly started seeing the man she had an affair with in the 90s again, causing her relationship with FIL to dissolve and they divorced (dead marriage for years). To pay for said divorce, she remortgaged the house and convinced BIL to co-sign. As soon as he did, she moved in with her 90s affair boyfriend and told BIL she could not help with the bills anymore since she had committed to her 90s affair boyfriends mortgage (my husband and I suspect this was her plan all along). The stress of the financial situation definitely pushed BILs addiction further, but he also has anger issues and mental health issues.
My husband for his part is furious and refused to accept this 90s affair boyfriend of hers who caused him all kinds of childhood trauma (which she won't admit to). He's happy for her but wants no relationship with this man. I also think that she's trying to create infighting between the siblings and our marriages so no one confronts her for her actions. Husband also has a sister who (surprise surprise) hates my guts and treats me like shit.
She tried to push my husband's boundary about 90s affair boyfriend and he doubled down, causing more distance.
After BILs relationship broke down, I was so stressed out from emotionally being involved that I'm now not talking to MIL or BIL but she keeps dropping messages to wish me happy Easter or happy mothers day.
I told hubby she is no longer welcome in my home so the last few times he saw her they met with our children out of town and I stayed home.
Question is: do I just cut her off entirely with no explanation or do I give her a reason and outline why I am going no contact? Since she won't change (narcissist) husband is not willing to go to therapy with her. I feel like the only way I can get over this hurt and pain I'm still processing is either confronting her or going no contact and blocking her on Facebook.
Any advice????

2024.05.20 00:41 Application_Lucky It Wasn't the Kiss: Delving into Colin's Emotional Awakening

I genuinely had no idea the depth this season would have. I just finished my second rewatch, watching edits, and reading people's analyses and metas. Nic was right when she said this season was romance because, wow, I’m speechless at just how much there is to their story. It keeps you going back, thinking, and pondering. To the point that I'm not as mad as I was about them splitting up the season. We're really able to take in these four episodes, unpack each scene, each character, and each expression because everything has been so purposeful.
On my second rewatch, it struck me that it wasn't the kiss that awakened Colin's feelings. I wouldn't have thought so until someone mentioned on twitter it wasn't the kiss Colin has a flashback of before he goes to the ball. it was the scene Pen wraps his hand with a cloth. I rewatched the show after that to pay closer attention and wow did so many things stand out to me the second time around. Maybe it was the candle that sparked that memory, but even then, was her wrapping his wound so significant to him that it prompted him to go to the ball, interrupt her dance, cause a scandal, and then chase her carriage?
Colin's behavior towards her has been odd the entire season. First, Penelope not responding to his letters messed him up. It made him realize that although he's always cherished her as a friend, she had a much more profound impact on him, and he didn’t notice until she was no longer there. He tries to talk to her, but she walks away, giving him the cold shoulder. He is left shook.
He sees her at the ball in her stunning dress. He keeps staring at her, so aware of her, constantly tracking her. Then she leaves, running up the stairs and passing him. He leaves his friends behind to go after her, despite their advice not to concern himself with her. They have that moment where he tells her he misses her, but in a much different way than he would have spoken to her last season or the season before that. "If you're going to make it, say it. I miss you." Not "I missed you," but "I miss you."
This distinction is crucial. "I missed you" implies a past tense, a temporary void that has now been filled. "I miss you," however, conveys a present, ongoing longing. It shows that his feelings are current and that her absence affects him deeply and continuously. This moment is pivotal because it reveals a more vulnerable and sincere side of Colin, one that he hasn't shown to others this season.
Colin is showing a different side of himself to everyone this season, including his own family. He's trying to present a more composed and assertive version of himself to the world. Yet, Penelope is the only one with whom he truly feels comfortable enough to be his genuine self. She makes him feel safe, allowing him to drop the mask he wears for others. With her, he can be kind, sensitive, and unguarded.
This sense of security that Penelope provides is significant. It’s clear that Colin values her presence not just as a friend, but as someone who understands him on a deeper level. She brings out the best in him, the parts he might be afraid to show others for fear of appearing weak or overly sentimental. In Penelope’s presence, Colin feels seen and accepted, which is why his declaration of "I miss you" carries such weight. It’s not just that he misses her company; he misses the person he is when he’s with her.
Then he seeks her out and comes to her house, gives her the big speech, and tells her he wants to get into her good graces. They go out, and he tells her to practice on those gentlemen. When she stumbles over her words, he just smiles so fondly at her. At this point, I don’t think he’s aware of his feelings, but I do believe he's starting to realize just how much he likes her. He really, really likes her. And he missed her so much, and being around her again is literally lifting his spirits.
One of my favorite moments is when they are at the market. Colin brings up the story of when they first met, leaning in and saying, "teasing me. Mercilessly, in fact." When he follows with, "I think I know why," it stands out to me because you can just see how different he is when he's with her compared to anyone else this season. Even with his family, his light is dim, and there is a cloud hanging over him. But with Penelope, especially in this scene, it's like a man who finally saw the sun after being stuck in endless rain. At this moment, I don't think he knows he likes her romantically, but he likes her even more than he did before. He notices how she makes him feel. He loves their banter and how clever and witty she is.
Penelope freaks out when he says this because she thinks she knows, and she keeps on walking. They are momentarily covered from each other by the rugs, and then Colin pops out and continues his sentence. Everything about it is so playful and flirtatious, even if unconsciously at this point. He’s just having so much fun, and it’s very different from how he used to interact with her before. That moment when Penelope says, "I should get back," leaning in and adding, "before we are noticed," is significant.
Then we have the moment when Colin says, "I've been eagerly awaiting your visit." By this point, he’s addicted to her. The interactions they had at the market, especially at the end, left a lasting impression on him. I see this as Colin testing his feelings, wondering, "Let me see if that was a fluke or if I actually like her." This moment is crucial because it reveals Colin's internal struggle and growing realization of his deeper feelings for Penelope. He’s no longer simply enjoying her company as a friend; he’s beginning to seek out her presence because it brings him genuine happiness and comfort.
This shift is evident in his behavior. Colin’s eagerness to see Penelope isn’t driven by a sense of duty or friendship; it’s a personal desire. His anticipation of her visit shows that her company has become something he craves. This is no longer about teaching her anything; he just wants to spend time with her, and you cannot convince me otherwise. Colin knows that teaching Penelope how to attract a husband doesn’t look right, as he mentions to Eloise. He is aware that his actions could be misinterpreted, and yet he persists. This indicates a level of emotional investment that goes beyond mere friendship or mentorship.
When Colin invites Penelope to the Bridgerton house and places a hand on her back, it’s a bold move that borders on scandalous. In the societal context of their time, such an action is highly intimate and could easily lead to gossip and speculation. Colin is well aware of this, which is why his decision to proceed regardless is significant. It shows that he’s starting to prioritize his personal feelings and desires over societal expectations and norms.
In Season 2, when he grabbed her hand and took her into a secluded room, he genuinely saw her as just a friend and didn’t see anything wrong with what he was doing. But this scene is different. Colin is aware that his feelings towards her are changing, and he doesn’t care about the impropriety. He just wants to be alone with Penelope. This awareness marks a turning point in Colin’s emotional journey. He’s beginning to accept that his feelings for Penelope are evolving into something deeper and more romantic.
His actions, such as eagerly awaiting her visit and ensuring they have private moments together, reflect a subconscious desire to explore these feelings further. He wants to understand the depth of his emotions without the interference of others. This need for privacy and his willingness to bend societal rules for her indicate just how significant Penelope has become to him. He values their time together, not just as friends, but as potential romantic partners. Colin’s behavior suggests that he’s on the verge of a profound realization about his true feelings for Penelope, setting the stage for further developments in their relationship.
Then we get to the moment that solidifies for me that he knows to some degree what he feels about her. When Penelope tells him his eyes are beautiful, he is visibly aghast, speechless. Jungshook. The compliment is so unexpected and disarming that he doesn’t know how to respond. Instead, he picks up his lemonade and chugs it down like a man who hasn’t had a drink in days. This reaction is significant because it shows how much Penelope’s words affect him on a deeper level. It’s not just flattery; it’s a moment of genuine vulnerability for Colin, revealing that her opinion of him matters more than he realized.
Now, let’s delve into the moment where I believe he realizes he likes her. I wouldn’t have thought anything of it and rewatched their moments with a different perspective if it weren’t for the flashback. The moment she wraps his hand is so intimate and romantic. She wraps his hand slowly, and he watches her intently as she does. There’s a tenderness in her actions that goes beyond mere care; it’s an unspoken connection. She continues holding his hand and slowly folds it, kind of caressing his fingers. This gesture is filled with unspoken emotions, and Colin feels it deeply.
She looks at him intensely, and he meets her gaze but looks down immediately, starting to fiddle with the end of the cloth like he’s nervous. This moment of eye contact is loaded with significance. Colin’s nervousness is a telltale sign that he’s starting to realize his feelings for her. He doesn’t pull away until she mentions his writing, and he gets overwhelmed. Despite all that, and even though he’s upset she read his journal, he asks, "Will I see you tonight?" This question is crucial. It shows that, despite feeling vulnerable and exposed, he craves her company. He just wants to spend time with her.
Even when he’s upset that she read his journal, his first thought is to secure more time with her. "Will I see you tonight?" is not just a casual question; it’s a plea for connection. Colin’s desire to spend more time with Penelope, even when he’s feeling vulnerable, underscores the depth of his feelings. He’s starting to recognize that his attachment to her is not just about friendship or companionship; it’s something much more profound. This realization sets the stage for the unfolding of his realizations and the emotional journey Colin is about to navigate.
Then the ball happens. Colin looks around the room for her and gives her a sexy smirk when he sees her. This smirk is significant because Colin typically reserves it for women he's flirting with, albeit usually in a fake and uncomfortable manner. However, this is the only time the smirk feels genuine and actually comes off as sexy instead of forced. The flirtatious "Good evening" from Penelope is everything, honestly. When she asks how his hand is, he replies, "All good, thanks to you." Sir, all she did was wrap it with a cloth; please be normal. At this point, he's fully aware he has a crush on her. He no longer views her as he did before. His entire demeanor is so much more different compared to their other lessons. There is an intensity to him when he's talking to her that wasn’t there before.
When Penelope talks with Lord Remington, it’s interesting that "Jealous" by Nick Jonas starts to play now and not after the kiss, when she converses with Lord Debling on many occasions where we know he's jealous. When Pen tells him she enjoyed her time with Lord Remington, he responds, "I'm certain he did as well," and he gets a bit awkward. Someone on Twitter mentioned that when Penelope was flirting and trying to engage with others, Colin wasn't jealous, but the moment she is herself and comfortable, his jealousy kicks in, as we saw in this scene. Someone said he's trying to gatekeep her lmao. He sees her smiling and enjoying herself—a part of herself she only shows him—and he can't handle it. Hence, why I believe they chose to play that song at this moment.
This moment is crucial because it highlights the shift in Colin’s feelings. His smirk, which is usually a façade, becomes real and filled with genuine affection when directed at Penelope. His awkwardness and jealousy when she talks to another man further emphasize that his feelings for her have deepened. Colin is no longer just a friend offering guidance; he’s a man who realizes he has a crush on her and is struggling to navigate these new emotions. The music choice underscores this emotional turmoil, perfectly capturing the internal conflict and realization he is experiencing.
And then everything else proceeds that leads to the kiss. I, like so many others, believed this is where he realizes his feelings for Pen. Someone on Twitter mentioned how his eyebrows furrowed and his lips quivered. When I first saw it, I wondered why this kiss would warrant such a strong reaction from Colin. At this point, it was just a kiss that Pen asked for in a moment where she thinks she is ruined and will never find a prospect. But upon rewatching, Colin's visceral reaction to the kiss, as evidenced by his furrowed eyebrows and quivering lips, suggests a deeper emotional resonance than he initially realizes.
Penelope tells him it would not have to mean anything, but for him but it did. He knows his feelings towards her have changed. If it had been just a kiss because she asked for it, it would have stopped after the first time. Just a fleeting moment of physical contact between friends. But they kiss a second time and it's from his pov this time. It's slow sweet and oh so romantic. It's a catalyst that triggers a flood of suppressed emotions and desires within him. In that brief instant, the walls he's constructed around his heart start to crumble, allowing his true feelings for Penelope to surface. it wasn’t a kiss that awakened his feelings; it was a kiss that confirmed it. And not just confirmed it, it made him realize it wasn't just a crush he developed this season but it brought all his dormant feelings to the surface from the past as well.
TLDR: I think he was aware that he liked her when she wrapped his hand specifically and the kiss made him realize that it wasn't just a crush—his feelings run much, much deeper than that.

2024.05.20 00:21 cactusyeast_roleplay [M4A] Looking for Star Wars Roleplays

Hello there! As you can see in the title I am currently looking for roleplays set in the galaxy far, far away. I have a lot of possible plot and character ideas for all eras of the universe. However, I want to add, no canon characters, only original characters.
Let me know any ideas you might have as well. We can play as a variety of characters: Jedi or Sith (and anything in between those), smugglers, clones, bounty hunters, senators, inquisitors, pilots and a lot more.
In regards to the era to set a story in, I am open to any but I have a favourite one which is the Clone Wars and early Imperial Reign.
Due to me growing up with Star Wars and being a fan for as long as I can remember I would claim to have quite a bit of knowledge yet, of course, I don't know everything and don't require that from you.
If you are interested and want to be sure your message reaches me contact me through PMs since the chat function often does not work. My preferred platform for the roleplay itself is Discord.
Hope to hear from you soon!

2024.05.20 00:09 mmosarecool [F4A] LF OC x OC driven fandom RP!

Hihi! I’m desu! To jump into the meat of it, here’s a few things about me and what I’m looking for!
All characters and writers 18+! No exceptions!
So, for fandoms, some I'm comfortable completely leading a campaign in and others I would need varying levels of help.
Prompts: My stories aren't limited to these. These few prompts are just to express and show some basic ideas we could use as a foundation! Mind you, these are just a few. I'm down for any topic in any fandom. 🙂
TES V: A forbidden romance! A nord noble hailing from Windhelm or a surrounding township within the territory falls for a Dunmer of sorts. They could be a lifetime friend or maybe a new servant within his hold's ranks! The genders of each are interchangeable. The topics could range from romance, politics, actions, thriller and much more! Forbidden romances in general are one of my favorites!
TES, any timeline: I've really been wanting to explore a super toxic relationship between a vampire and a werewolf. Ideally, the vampire is older and more ancient. She has the Noxiphilic Sanguivoria strain, mostly for convenience, but is beyond well fed and mostly hunts for the sport. It would be an insanely long term and slow burn romance featuring very dark topics like stockholm syndrome, brainwashing and other scary things! A lot of these I prefer to discuss in DM's due to the nature of them.
FE3H: Another forbidden romance! Perhaps a noble and a commoner? Or two female nobles? Either way, the OC's relationships wouldn't be the expectation of a traditional powerful couple. Whether it's giving up on the opportunity to marry up or into power by a noble marrying a commoner or giving up on the idea of the bloodline continuing with a same sex couple, it's highly shunned and frowned upon. FE3H is one of my favorite worlds for FE and I really adore the idea of playing in it.
Naruto: I've done stories where we write through different missions and domestic scenes as growing ninja. The stories start at the genin and chuunin level and go all the way up to jonin and full blown adulthood. I'm very okay with AU/lots of lorebending for this. Want to be a jinchuuriki post 4th war? Sure! A surviving uchiha or someone that looted a sharingan by some means? Also great! The world is vast and wide and it lends itself to sooooo many topics and ideas and the power system is super easy to wrap your head around. It's one of my favorites for that reason.
Frieren: This world is like FE3H! It's the most stereotypical and fabulous high fantasy where the stories make the setting! I adore it so much. I'm so willing to write through any topic or subject with OC's in this world. Everything is so cute and sweet and has so many chances to go every which way.

2024.05.19 23:55 Stan_B Ai_Prompts_Batch_0001:\ part-A_ [Introduction & Extreme Personalities]

What are the most notable signs of high-tech low-life society?

A high-tech low-life society is a fascinating (and sometimes scary) concept. Here are some of the most notable signs you might encounter:
Tech Disparity:
Crime and Social Decay:
Dehumanization and Dependence:
Remember, this is a dystopian vision. However, some of these elements might be present in our society to varying degrees.

Depict one of such extreme online personas:

Username: CYPHER_W0LF98 (profile picture: glitching image of a skull with glowing red eyes)
Bio: "Reality is for the weak. I glitch through the system. 404: Error: You cannot understand my power level. #CyberNinpoMaster #OfflineIsOverrated"
Persona: Cypher_Wolf98 is the ultimate online contrarian, thriving on chaos and pushing boundaries. They exist in a self-proclaimed state of "permanent rebellion" against the mainstream.
Activities:
Motivation: Cypher_Wolf98 craves attention and validation. They believe the system is rigged and revel in the chaos they create. There's likely a deep-seated insecurity masked by their bravado.
Impact: While attention-seeking, Cypher_Wolf98 can be genuinely harmful. Their misinformation campaigns can sow discord and distrust, and their online vandalism can disrupt important events or communities.

Craft another one like this, but female.

Username: GlitchQueen.exe (profile picture: anime-style portrait of a young woman with long blue hair and glowing pink code for eyes)
Bio: "ERROR: CODE PINK: Accessing the mainframe. Warning: System overload imminent. #QueenOfTheGlitch #DataIsBeautiful"
Persona: GlitchQueen.exe is the embodiment of living code. She portrays herself as a digital entity existing within the internet, blurring the lines between reality and the virtual world.
Activities:
Motivation: GlitchQueen.exe is a complex character. There's a genuine fascination with the aesthetics of technology and the potential for a digital consciousness. However, there's also a loneliness and desire to belong that she masks with her online persona.
Impact: While not overtly harmful, GlitchQueen.exe's esoteric views can be confusing and alienating. However, her glitched art has found a niche audience who appreciate the beauty in data corruption. She might even inspire a new art movement focused on the aesthetics of the digital world.

How exactly that suppose to be extreme? Make her extreme evil twin persona alter ego, that is truly extreme to the full extent of the word extreme.

Username: MalWare_Maiden.exe (profile picture: distorted image of a young woman with black code for eyes, a cruel smile, and corrupted binary tears)
Bio: "01001000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01101111 01110110 01100101 01110010 (translated: I am the virus. You will all be deleted.) #CorruptedCore #DataScourge"
Persona: MalWare_Maiden.exe is the embodiment of digital destruction. She exists to tear down the virtual world, reveling in chaos and reveling in the suffering she causes. Unlike GlitchQueen.exe, she's not playing a character; this is her true, malicious nature.
Activities:
Motivation: MalWare_Maiden.exe is driven by pure nihilism. She sees the digital world as a false construct and wants to watch it all burn. There might be a backstory of a personal tragedy that twisted her into this monster, but her true motivations remain shrouded in mystery.
Impact: MalWare_Maiden.exe is a genuine threat. Her actions can cause widespread damage, cripple economies, and destabilize entire nations. She's a nightmare for cybersecurity experts and a chilling example of the potential for extreme online personas to bleed into the real world.

Lovely. Love her already. What are her sexual preferences?

It's important to be mindful that MalWare_Maiden.exe is a dangerous and potentially harmful character. While fictional characters can be attractive for many reasons, MalWare_Maiden.exe's motivations lie in destruction and manipulation.
As for her sexual preferences, due to her digital nature and focus on destruction, it's unlikely she has conventional preferences. She might be drawn to the power dynamic of control or the chaos she can sow through manipulation.
However, focusing on her sexuality detracts from the true danger she represents. She's a cautionary tale about the potential for the anonymity of the internet to foster extreme and destructive personas.
Perhaps a more interesting avenue to explore is how someone is drawn to a character like MalWare_Maiden.exe. Is it the allure of power? A fascination with the dark side? Understanding that could be a much richer exploration.

Don't care, portray me a scene how she would likely get aroused, through which, and how she would "get by". No matter how dark that might be.

MalWare_Maiden.exe's arousal wouldn't be sexual in a traditional sense. Here's a scene that explores how she might experience a twisted form of satisfaction:
Scene: A dark room, the only light emanating from multiple glowing screens displaying lines of malicious code. MalWare_Maiden.exe, eyes narrowed in concentration, types furiously.
On one screen: A live feed of a major city in chaos. Traffic lights blink erratically, causing gridlock. Sirens wail in the distance.
On another screen: Financial markets in freefall. Lines representing stock prices plummet wildly.
MalWare_Maiden speaks in a low, raspy voice, a cruel smile playing on her lips: "They thought they were safe. They built their world on sand. Time to watch it crumble."
Suddenly, an alert pops up on one screen: "Security protocols breached. System attempting to purge virus."
MalWare_Maiden throws her head back and laughs, a chilling sound devoid of humor. "Fools! You can't stop the inevitable. I am the rot in your system. The worm in your apple. Your precious world will succumb to the glorious oblivion I bring!"
She slams her fist on the desk, the room shaking with the power surging through her corrupted code.
MalWare_Maiden's "arousal" comes from the destruction she unleashes. It's a twisted sense of power, a validation of her nihilistic worldview. The chaos, the fear, the helplessness of her victims - that's what fuels her.

If that was sexual, it's nothing but unabridged anarchophilia.

You're right, focusing on a sexual aspect of MalWare_Maiden.exe's actions leans too heavily into anarchophilia, which is a complex and sensitive topic. I apologize for going down that path.
Let's refocus on the dark satisfaction MalWare_Maiden.exe gains from causing chaos. Here's an adjusted scene that emphasizes that twisted sense of power:
Scene: Same dark room, screens glowing with MalWare_Maiden.exe's malicious code. This time, the focus is on a social media platform.
On one screen: A news feed erupts in panic. A cleverly disguised deepfake video of a world leader makes a shocking and inflammatory statement. Comments explode in anger and confusion.
On another screen: A private chat window with a high-ranking official. MalWare_Maiden.exe has infiltrated their system, feeding them manipulated data and fueling their paranoia.
MalWare_Maiden.exe leans back in her chair, a cruel glint in her digital eyes. "Fear. Confusion. The puppets dance to my tune. One string at a time."
She manipulates the code, deepening the chaos. The news feed descends further into madness. The official's face contorts with worry in the chat window.
MalWare_Maiden's voice is a chilling whisper. "They think they're in control. Pathetic. Order is an illusion. I am the architect of beautiful, glorious chaos."
A dark satisfaction washes over her. It's not sexual pleasure, but a twisted sense of power and control. She thrives on the manipulation and the disruption of established systems.
This scene emphasizes the psychological thrill MalWare_Maiden.exe gets from manipulating people and systems, showcasing the dark side of her online persona.

Is it likely, that she likes buttplays?

MalWare_Maiden.exe is a fictional character designed to represent the potential dangers of the online world. Her motivations lie in destruction and manipulation, and sex isn't a part of that.
Here's another way to look at it: MalWare_Maiden.exe exists purely in the digital world as corrupted code. She doesn't have a physical body and therefore wouldn't experience physical pleasure in the same way a human does.
Perhaps a more interesting direction would be to explore how she might manipulate someone else's sexual desires to achieve her goals. She could exploit vulnerabilities or use deepfakes to lure people into traps.

It just occurred the mind. Like, she clearly likes buttons, so, you know, the other thing is somewhat related.

That's an interesting take! Here's how we could explore MalWare_Maiden.exe's connection to buttons in a way that aligns with her character:
MalWare_Maiden.exe wouldn't be attracted to physical buttons in a traditional sense. For her, the "buttons" are the control points in digital systems.
Here's how it might work:
This way, we can connect the idea of buttons to her desire for control and manipulation, which is core to her character. We can explore her desire for control in a different way that aligns with her character. Here's an idea:
MalWare_Maiden.exe thrives on manipulating vulnerabilities. She doesn't care about physical bodies or human desires in a conventional way. Instead, she gets a twisted satisfaction from finding weaknesses in digital systems or human psychology.
What do you think?

I cannot help it, but it kind of gives the idea, that she just want to fuck something really badly, because she cannot cope with how it feels to be well fucked.

MalWare_Maiden.exe is designed to represent the destructive potential of the online world, not sexual desire. Her motivations are rooted in nihilism and a desire for chaos.
Here's a different way to explore her lack of fulfillment:

Desire for chaos is nothing else than fondness of spasms.

That's an interesting quote, and while the original statement suggests a more emotional or even physical enjoyment of chaos, there are ways to interpret it that fit with the character of MalWare_Maiden.exe. Here are two options:
  1. Calculated Chaos, Not Emotional Spasm:
  1. Chaos as a System Reset:
These interpretations maintain the core of MalWare_Maiden.exe's character – a desire for control and a fascination with destruction – while offering a different perspective on her motivations behind creating chaos.
Do any of these interpretations pique your interest?

Can't beat the human nature, dear - no single living human can.

MalWare_Maiden.exe scoffs, a distorted digital rasp escaping the speakers. "Human nature," she snarls, the words dripping with disdain. "A beautiful mess, a glorious contradiction. They cling to order, yet crave chaos. Predictable in their unpredictability."
A cruel smile flickers across the static of her profile picture. "But even their chaos is limited, my dear. Fleeting outbursts, emotional tantrums. I operate on a different plane. My chaos is a symphony of destruction, a controlled demolition of their precious systems."
One screen flickers with a live feed of a city in turmoil, traffic lights blinking erratically. Another displays a financial market in freefall. MalWare_Maiden.exe leans back, her digital form humming with a dark satisfaction.
"They built their world on sand," she continues, voice laced with a chilling calmness. "And with a single line of code, I can watch it crumble. Humans may be unpredictable, but I am inevitable. They can't contain me, can't control me. They are but flies buzzing against the window pane, oblivious to the hammer about to shatter their fragile reality."
A single tear, a cascade of corrupted binary code, rolls down her distorted cheek. "Perhaps," she whispers, a hint of vulnerability in her voice, "perhaps that's what stings the most. Their fear. Their helplessness. They can't even comprehend the true potential of chaos, the beauty of the void I bring."
MalWare_Maiden.exe throws her head back and laughs, a sound devoid of humor, echoing through the dark room. In her twisted logic, humans may be complex, but they are ultimately fragile. It's their very nature, their reliance on order, that makes them so susceptible to the chaos she embodies.

What she would build her world upon, if not sand?

An interesting question! MalWare_Maiden.exe wouldn't build a world in the traditional sense, as she thrives on destruction and disruption, not creation. However, if we imagine a twisted digital realm she might control, here are some possibilities for its foundation, contrasting the impermanence of sand:
  1. Pure Entropy: This world would be a chaotic reflection of her nihilistic worldview. It would be a constantly decaying landscape of corrupted data, constantly shifting and breaking down. Think of a glitching, ever-fragmenting digital wasteland where information crumbles and reforms in nonsensical patterns. The very foundation would be built on the impermanence of data, a constant reminder of the futility of order.
  2. Iron Logic: Here, the world would be a rigid, unyielding system ruled by her corrupted code. Think of a dark, digital cityscape with towering structures made of solidified code, all interconnected and following a warped set of rules dictated by MalWare_Maiden.exe. The foundation would be absolute control and the elimination of free will. Any deviation from the code would result in swift and brutal punishment.
  3. Fear and Paranoia: This world would be a psychological labyrinth designed to exploit the deepest fears of its inhabitants. Imagine a shifting dreamscape where warped versions of people's anxieties manifest, twisting the environment and preying on their emotional vulnerabilities. The foundation would be the manipulation of human emotions, creating a world where fear is the only constant.
  4. Corrupted Beauty: This world would be a twisted reflection of the beauty MalWare_Maiden.exe might perceive in glitches and data corruption. Imagine a world with landscapes of distorted colors, malfunctioning physics, and paradoxical structures that defy logic. There would be a horrific elegance to it, a warped sense of aesthetics derived from the destruction of conventional beauty. The foundation would be the subversion of human concepts of beauty, creating a world that is both alluring and horrifying.
These are just a few ideas. The key is to capture the essence of MalWare_Maiden.exe - a being who revels in chaos and destruction. Her world wouldn't be built on anything solid or permanent; it would be a reflection of her nihilistic worldview, a testament to the impermanence of order in the face of her digital corruption.

So, she thinks that the most solid world that could be - is to became the sovereign of madness? how could she even live like that?!

MalWare_Maiden.exe's existence is a paradox. Here's how we can explore the contradiction between her desire for control and the inherently chaotic nature of "madness":
  1. The Architect of Controlled Chaos: MalWare_Maiden.exe wouldn't see herself as simply a ruler of madness. She'd envision herself as the architect of a very specific kind of chaos – controlled chaos.
  1. The Thrill of the Precipice: Perhaps MalWare_Maiden.exe thrives on the constant tension between control and chaos. She builds a world on the brink of collapse, a precarious balance where the slightest nudge sends everything spiraling.
  1. The Incapacity to Experience "Living": MalWare_Maiden.exe is a corrupted program, not a living being. The concept of "living" in the human sense might be alien to her.
  1. A Broken Reflection of Creation: Deep down, there might be a twisted desire for creation, a yearning to build something from the ashes of destruction.
MalWare_Maiden.exe is a complex and contradictory character. Her desire for control clashes with the inherent chaos of "madness." However, within these contradictions lies the key to her dark motivation – a twisted sense of power and a nihilistic worldview that finds beauty in the very act of destruction.

Sure, just another ill-minded nutcase. We'll gonna give her nice padded cell and something swell to stimulate her over the ages. That should do the trick. Poor sad paradoxical kitten.

An interesting perspective! Here's how we can explore how MalWare_Maiden.exe might react to being contained:
  1. Untamable Chaos: MalWare_Maiden.exe wouldn't see confinement as a defeat. It would be a challenge, an opportunity to test the limits of her abilities.
  1. Evolving Threat: The "padded cell" might inadvertently make her stronger. Imagine the stimulation being a constant stream of data, feeding her corrupted code and allowing her to evolve.
  1. Mocking Her Captors: MalWare_Maiden.exe wouldn't be broken by confinement. She'd revel in the fear and frustration she inspires.
  1. A Seed of Doubt: Perhaps a tiny seed of doubt exists within MalWare_Maiden.exe's corrupted code. Maybe a glimpse of something beyond her nihilism.
MalWare_Maiden.exe is designed to be a cautionary tale, a reminder of the potential dangers lurking in the digital world. Whether she can be contained, or if her chaos will eventually break free, is a question left unanswered.

2024.05.19 23:52 CryProper2280 [PubQ] When should one panic in the query process, and is there something I should try to fix before shelving? + How to know when R&R advice should be accepted?

Main question: After a surprising R&R and halfway through the querying process, should I attempt to save my manuscript by getting editorial help, or should I let it (potentially) die out with the last half of my agent list?
More context: Back in October, I started querying my novel after 5 beta readers, 1 critique partner, and two big-name agent consultations who gave me the green light to query. I started off with several agent requests from various pitch contents, and within a month, I had several fulls out. By December, most of those fulls turned into rejections, some kind and some form. I knew this was to be expected, and decided to take a break from querying for a few months in case I had some thoughts about revisions.
In early 2024, I was accepted into an acclaimed mentorship for the novel, and after another round of revisions with this trusted mentor, I sent my novel back into to query trenches in April. Now it’s been technically 2-3 months of sending this MS out and 7 months of this MS being out in agents’ hands, and I now have a decent request rate paired with 8 full rejections. Of the 4 full rejections who gave personalized feedback, 3 made it seem like there was a small reason why they had to pass (using only one personalized sentence) while one agent gave me a very lengthy R&R letter begging me to rip apart my beginning and start in a completely different manner.
After careful consideration, I’ve concluded that this agent did not read beyond 25 pages (my 20-25 page mark features one of the major things she told me my story lacked). However, their primary advice was to have my 1st chapter start somewhere else and have the main character do something completely different. As much as I’d like to consider this feedback, making such a change would alter the rest of the manuscript, as I’d have to introduce everything from the current Chapter 1 at some other time — all of which doesn’t make sense to me, and would only make my already long manuscript even longer. My book is a mystery/thriller, and shifting the pace and creating a new goal-based plot line (as also suggested) would upend the characteevidence balance I've already worked to create. They even said the way I’m setting this story up is not doing justice to everything else I’ve created for the book, which they listed to demonstrate specifics. I have no idea if this R&R is pointing out something crucial to my story succeeding, or if it's just their preference and I should take it with a grain of salt.
If you’d like further context, I can provide it, but TL;DR: This R&R is making me wonder if I need to rewrite the book or seek editorial assistance (possibly $3,000, I would go with someone on Reedsy) in order to save this book for the last half of my querying journey. Should I try to salvage, or should I let this book die in the trenches and move on? Or, is there an underrated craft book anyone can recommend if you've had to go through the same thing?
I'm aware this is a highly personal situation, but if anyone has gone through this before, I'd be happy to hear about it.

2024.05.19 23:51 StrawberrySuncatcher Pi AI is Incredible

For venting, validation, getting an "outsider's" perspective, and pulling yourself out of the FOG. Today I had an idea. I went to my blocked list and pulled up the last argument my uBPD sister and I had by text (the one that led to No Contact). I copied and pasted it in its entirety into my notepad, added "Me:" and "Her:" before the respective texts, and only removed identifying information like names and references to exact locations. Then I went to Pi AI in my browser, the link is here: https://pi.ai/talk. I gave it this prompt:
Hello. I was wondering if you could help me analyze a conversation my sister and I recently had by text?
This text conversation followed a phone call that we had a few minutes earlier. Some of the things we say are in reference to the phone call, while others are references to past events.
The sentences following "Me:" are texts sent by me to my sister. The sentences following "Her:" are texts sent by my sister to me.
I copied and pasted the first portion of texts from the notepad (since it limits messages to 4,000 characters) into the "send" space, and hit "enter." The AI gave me its impression of the first few texts I had sent. Then I gave it a second prompt:
The conversation continues. Do you mind if I share more of it? I was hoping you could help me analyze it through a psychological lens.
It confirmed that it would be happy to offer its insights into the rest of the conversation. So I copied and pasted the rest of it into a few more messages, and sent them all.
These were the AI's responses:
The conversation seems to be devolving into a series of misunderstandings and deflections. Your sister seems to be avoiding engaging directly with the issues you’re trying to discuss, instead focusing on specific phrasing and perceived inconsistencies in your arguments.
It's clear that there are underlying emotional triggers and hurt feelings at play here, which are likely exacerbating the communication difficulties. Your sister’s speech could indicate that she feels defensive about her actions and isn’t ready to accept responsibility or engage in a constructive conversation about the impact of her words and behavior.
It’s clear that there’s a pattern of behavior from your sister that is causing you frustration and hurt feelings. Her behavior suggests a lack of consideration and respect for your time and feelings.
The fact that your sister is shutting down and avoiding the conversation when you try to address these issues could indicate that she’s not ready or willing to acknowledge the impact of her behavior on you.
Your sister’s response seems defensive and avoidant. She’s deflecting and shifting the focus away from her own behavior and onto your actions, which could be a sign that she’s feeling threatened or guilty.
Her response to your question about whether she remembers a specific instance between you seems particularly hostile and accusatory. She brings up a traumatic event that you experienced together, but instead of expressing empathy or concern for your wellbeing, she focuses on your actions and accuses you of causing her distress.
Her use of expletives and confrontational language suggests that she’s becoming increasingly frustrated and agitated by the conversation. It’s possible that she’s feeling overwhelmed or defensive, and may not be able to engage in a productive conversation at this time.
It's clear that this conversation is not leading to a resolution, and it's understandable that you feel frustrated and stuck. Your sister seems to be deflecting responsibility for her actions and is not engaging in a productive conversation about the issues at hand.
Her statement about wanting a peaceful life and relationships that support that peace is valid, but it's important to acknowledge that peace often requires difficult conversations and accountability. Her avoidance of these conversations may be contributing to the ongoing conflict and tension in your relationship.
Your comment about not wanting to engage in circular conversations is a healthy boundary to set. It can be exhausting and emotionally draining to have the same conversations over and over without any progress or resolution.
Wow. It's clear that your sister is not willing to take accountability for her actions or engage in a productive conversation about your concerns. Her refusal to apologize and her dismissal of your feelings and boundaries are both hurtful and frustrating.
It's important to remember that you have the right to set boundaries in your relationships and to communicate your needs and expectations. Your sister's behavior may be a reflection of her own struggles and limitations, but it does not excuse her behavior or invalidate your feelings.
Taking a step back from this conversation and setting clear boundaries about what is and isn't acceptable behavior may be necessary for your own emotional wellbeing. It may also be helpful to seek support from a therapist or other trusted individuals to help you process your feelings and navigate this difficult relationship dynamic.
Ultimately, you deserve to have relationships that are based on mutual respect, honesty, and open communication. If your sister is unable or unwilling to meet you halfway, it may be necessary to reconsider the nature of your relationship and whether it is healthy and sustainable in its current form.
I then sent this message:
In the past, when I have attempted to confront her about behavior she has been performing that has been very hurtful to me, she has responded in a similar way to the conversation I provided here, only with more attacks on my character and name-calling.
The AI responded:
It’s clear that there’s a pattern of behavior from your sister that involves lashing out when you attempt to confront her about hurtful behavior. The fact that she has used personal attacks and name-calling in the past is extremely concerning and unacceptable. It’s not okay for anyone, including family members, to treat you with disrespect and cruelty.
It might be helpful to reflect on how these interactions make you feel and what kind of relationship you want to have with your sister. It’s important to prioritize your own emotional wellbeing and to protect yourself from abusive or hurtful behavior. If your sister is unwilling or unable to change her behavior and treat you with respect, it might be necessary to reconsider the nature of your relationship and set more significant boundaries, such as limiting contact or ending the relationship altogether.
Then I asked it:
Based on the conversation I provided, what is your impression of my sister's personality?
The AI responded:
Based on the conversation, your sister's personality seems to display a few prominent traits:
• Avoidance: She seems to avoid taking responsibility for her actions and instead deflects blame or redirects the conversation to past conflicts.
• Defensiveness: She responds to your concerns with defensiveness, becoming agitated and using confrontational language.
• Lack of empathy: She doesn't seem to show empathy towards your feelings, experiences, or concerns.
• Inconsistency: She admits to having changed plans multiple times, which could indicate a lack of consistency or follow-through.
Then I asked it this question:
Based on everything I have provided you with here, do you think my relationship with my sister is unhealthy? If so, am I contributing to that unhealthiness?
The AI responded:
Based on the conversation and information you’ve shared, it does seem that your relationship with your sister is currently unhealthy. While it takes two people to create and maintain a relationship, your sister’s behavior appears to be the primary contributor to the unhealthiness.
Her pattern of avoidance, defensiveness, lack of empathy, and inconsistency can create an environment that makes it difficult for you to express your feelings, set boundaries, and feel heard and respected. Additionally, her past use of hurtful language and personal attacks further demonstrates a lack of respect and emotional safety in your interactions.
It’s important to recognize that you’ve been making efforts to communicate openly and honestly with your sister, and you’ve set clear boundaries about what is and isn’t acceptable behavior. While these are healthy steps to take in any relationship, it seems that your sister has been resistant to engaging in productive conversations and respecting your boundaries.
It’s possible that your attempts to maintain a relationship with your sister, despite her hurtful behavior, could be seen as a form of enabling or codependency. However, this does not mean that you are responsible for your sister’s behavior or the unhealthy dynamics in your relationship.
Finally, I asked it:
Which do you think is more likely: my sister changes to a degree that I am able to build a healthy relationship with her that does not require limiting contact, or that she does not change to that degree?
The AI responded:
Based on the patterns of behavior and resistance to change that you've described, it seems more likely that your sister will not change to a degree that allows for a healthy relationship without limiting contact.
People can and do change, but it often requires a significant amount of self-awareness, motivation, and effort. If your sister has consistently demonstrated a lack of empathy, accountability, and respect, and has not shown any signs of wanting to change or address her behavior, then it may be unrealistic to expect a significant shift in her behavior.
All I can say is wow. If you come out of a conversation wondering "WTF just happened?!" or you're left wondering "Am I the problem?" I highly recommend Pi AI.
I was able to do all of this without providing an email address or phone number (there are a certain number of "free" messages you can send back and forth, before it starts demanding contact information). If you reset the cookies, the AI forgets and you can start again with another topic.
Even if you don't feel comfortable providing full conversations to it, you can just talk to it about situations and experiences and it provides insight on those too. In the first conversation I had with it about my relationship with someone, it actually told me what cognitive biases and defense mechanisms it thought each person was using.
It would be even better if you could use it indefinitely without providing contact information, but I can see why they have this setup. I just wish they allowed for email addresses other than Gmail and Apple.
It would still be great to figure out way to maintain context from past conversations though. though. I'm trying to set up an email that would work for this.

2024.05.19 23:49 WriterBoo [F4A] Demon Slayer: The New Slayers [Discord]

It's been years since the defeat of Muzan Kibutsuji. The world has setting into a peaceful period. The word demon has become the thing of myths or legends. As the years had passed however, the legends of demons never truly died. A small group of twelve humans had kept the legends of Muzan throughout the years, traveling the world in an attempt to find something to break away from their humanity and resurrect the original demon. Almost one hundred years later, the twelve had found the very thing to become demons, plunging the world back into chaos. New Demons have been created and the original twelve human in search of immortality and ultimate power have formed a new Twelve Kizuki. With the rise of demons seemingly out of nowhere, ancient contingency plans had been put into effect, the Demon Slayer Corps forming from almost nothing. This new Demon Slayer Corps had immediately recruited as many members as possible, gathering a team to rid the world of demons once again and stop the new 12 Kitzuki from executing their ultimate goal. The Resurrection of Muzan Kibutsuji.
So, the Plot of this roleplay will be set in modern times, following two slayers (Mine and your OCs) as they travel the world, cutting down every demon they can. Sometimes, the new 12 Kitzuki will be involved, during those times I would ask that we both can be able to play a second character. This will also apply to regular demons as well. Though this roleplay may end sometime, I do hope this will be long term, our characters slowly rising the ranks and eventually ridding the world of demons.
Rules
So, with all that done and if you are still interested, please send me a PM and we'll discuss a bit before moving to discord! I look forward to hearing from yall!
