I know there are lots of bad lost and found stories out there, but I want to share my experience with everyone, because it restored my faith in humanity. I had lost an item at Frankfurt airport (Lufthansa) that was never returned to me despite being able to track it and knowing exactly where it was. Not only did they not return it to me, two months later it pinged at an apartment complex 15 minutes away from the airport. So I had this bad experience already, so when I forgot my iPad at a Newark airport bathroom, I knew that there is no guarantee that I will get it back. I had already crossed the security line when I realized I had left it behind and they wouldn’t let me back in. The United customer service rep told me to fill out a lost and found report. Because of my previous bad experience I knew that the minute I leave the airport I can say goodbye to my iPad. I tried to convince someone to go back and look for me, I knew where I had left it. No one would do it until this lovely Irish woman working the baggage drop agreed to do it. I was so thankful to her because as a foreigner I’ve been in many situations where someone has the option to choose to help you, but disguises behind “the rules”. She went and looked in the bathroom but couldn’t find it, even though I could see on my phone that it was still around there. I tried to play a sound but it wouldn’t work as it was not connected to the WiFi. I felt bad for sending her on a failed mission but she reassure it wasn’t too much trouble. She was just lovely.
I left the airport and just accepted the fact that it’s just not gonna happen. I did fill out the lost and found and did see my iPad move from the terminal to the general area but then it lost signal and for days I would get emails saying they haven’t found my item. Then about a week later I got an email that they found the iPad. I was going to fly back the week after so I chose the option to pick it up.
The day of my return I went to the lost and found desk and they took my ID and then brought my iPad and handed it to me with a big smile. With everything going on in the world I know this is such an insignificant thing, and I guess the bar is so low that people caring and doing their job well is such a shocker, but this is the world we live in and turns out getting your lost item back is a pleasant surprise.
I know there are many bad lost and found stories, but I wanted to share this one to let you all know there are some happy endings too. I’m thankful to all the United employees involved in this story who all decided to care and do the right thing. USA 1, Germany -1

i’ve owned this ipad mini, first generation i believe but i’m honestly not sure, for over ten years. it’s never been borrowed, stolen, or in any other way removed from my possession. a while back i was entertaining the idea of selling it so i completely reset it, erased and did the factory reset and all. however since then i decided against selling and for the fun of it thought i might set it back up just to play around with it. so i go to activate it when i find that it’s under an activation lock associated with an email that is in no way mine! it says that the device was locked using the ‘find my’ feature which doesn’t make sense to me as i got the device brand new and havent used that feature for it ever. just to clarify i’m not looking for help with the activation lock specifically, i would have tried to get the lock removed but given that the device was purchased over a decade ago i just dont have any of the records that would qualify for a lock removal. i just really would like to know if anyone has any idea why or how it would be locked by an account that isn’t mine! and i have checked, as far as i’m aware neither i nor my family members who had access to this have set up an activation lock at any time.

In brief, I am a physician now working for a (terrible) employer that aggressively secures all devices. I essentially can’t open my email outside of an iOS/iPadOS device or a garbage work Dell. (They’re so bad, I told them the screens were hard to see and my employer told me to get glasses rather than buy one with a resolution near or greater than 1080p).
As all of Reddit points out, the M1 is overkill for an iPad. I use this to round, zoom, email, and entertainment. I really want a nice screen and landscape camera. The best I can get is $500 from Apple for trade in, so we’re still talking >MacBook Air costs to “downgrade” to an 11in model. Does this move make remote sense? Is OLED THAT much better than mini-LED?
Guidance, advice, love, hate — whatever, I’d appreciate whatever you can offer. Thank you!

I work in healthcare. My employer (relatively new) is terrible about security. Can’t access email, even, without over-secured personal iOS/iPadOS device or a work computer. And no, it’s not a government job.
I use iPad to round, email, entertainment, etc. Always by my side. The 12.9in is a beast. Great screen real estate and easy to see/use. The work laptops are a joke — pieces of crap overpriced from Dell that break immediately and are impossible to see (some are less than 1080p — my employer told me to get glasses rather than fix them).
So, is one of these new Pros a reasonable thing to get for a landscape FaceTime camera and a smaller size? Is OLED much better than Mini-LED? I can’t find anything with a good comparison or description.
Feels like a waste of money, but this thing is getting a little big, too.
Any guidance/thoughts/insight/hate much appreciated! Thank you!

I need to replace my iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (3rd generation). It has been 5 years, really happy with it, but i can see that sometimes it starts lagging a bit. The battery doesn’t last long also. I have the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil (magnetic one, not sure which model it is). Getting a new iPad Pro is currently too expensive, and probably too much for my needs ( reading + annotations, web surfing, emails, ..) and i would like to stick with the current size. I think the new ipad air 13inch would do the trick. However, I really like my magic keyboard and don’t want to purchase a new one. Would it be compatible with the new iPad Air 13inch? And would my Apple Pencil works as well? Thanks,

Hey all, TIA for reading!
My ex and I parted ways in 2023. I had been paying both our phone bills as well as well as for the purchase of his phone and iPad before we broke up and then afterwards. Since then, he has also been using my car.
Financially, we are still somewhat strung together and I would like to cut all ties with him. I’ve been trying to do so in a polite and non confrontational way because I want to recover my finances and be left in peace. Last week, I told him that he needed to move his phone to his own line because he had been unreliable in paying it (I’m talking paid 4 months out of 12 for the phone and 2 months out of six for the iPad). The phone has a charge of about $770 for the phone itself which is now on my upcoming bill. Originally, the company he moved to was going to pay off the phone to let him move and send him a credit card or payment card to apply towards the balance which he was going to send to me.
Today, he flipped out and texted me stating that my car was broken down at his new job (wouldn’t give me the address) and that he would not pay me back anything at all.
How do I go about recovering my car and the money? I know I could probably try and sue him but I only have text messaging and some emails from my mobile carrier to help back me up and I don’t know if that’s proof enough for everything.

As the title says, i have an android phone but want to stop using it since my ipad has a better screen and a way faster chip for binging media and games, so i find myself only using my phone to use whatsapp and read sms… on the go which makes me go out without a phone most of the time, so i was wondering
Tldr; can i use an e sim apple watch with the primary e-sim for reading whatsapp, messages, emails, and calls (with airpods), all of which rarely happen, with my wifi ipad or do i necessarily need an iphone to set it up and use the e sim, and lastly can i use a friends iphone if i need to but have a different phone number.

Premise:

Share my experience getting started on Bookfusion as a mobile first reader on iOS. I am also a dev so I like to give feedback when I see a project with promise and I figured my use case is not so unique.

Background:

I stumbled upon this app after months of being super annoyed searching for a way to away allowed tablet +pen users to write in line on epub files. I know now that this is possible on some of the very new color eink readers and (maybe?) Marginote but nothing accessible on iOS that gives you the full "I wrote in this book" feeling. I don't actually write in my paper books because it crowds the pages. However I use text based annotations all the time and love that I can just hide them away as I continue reading. It seems like a waste to have all this hardware capable of writing on books, but not supporting the most popular book format for published media. My full ebook library is close to 350gbs, and I have read them on many generations and sizes of devices over the years. That's why I don't like to use pdfs, so I will not be converting them.
Alright, off my rant.

History with other ereader applications:

I've been reading from epub files since the original Barnes and Nobles Nook launched in 2009. Things have changed a lot since then (for better and worse). My biggest pet peeve with all these platforms is that they lock you into their version of a book store and never allow you to include your currently library- or if they do allow sideload, it is at a disadvantage. Each of their reading apps are somewhat lacking in functionality too, one way or another.

• Kindle app is organized like social media with feeds and other nonsense I find that extremely annoying clutter to get to my book. The navigation in looking for books has infinite breadcrumbs you can't reset without hitting back a bunch of times. It's ability to do the one thing, is made unpleasant by the other forced features of integrating with Amazon.
• Apple Books lets you side load, but won't organize books by the same author or series together with ones sideloaded. You can't custom categorize books in your library without them being tied in some way to the Apple Books store view of the book.
• I've always found Google Books reader (on the iOS app) to be very ugly, and they are often the recent missing titles that I'm looking for. Man, I miss buying a ebook and getting a file. I can only do that directly supporting authors on their websites these days.

I haven't mentioned my qualm with actually buying books on these platforms either. Needless to say, I have books scattered across all the major platforms, which is why I will never get a kobo, amazon or otherwise platform affiliated e-reader and why I'm super interested in software based app solutions. I stick with iPad/iOS because it's familiar (I've had iPhones since the 3GS, and iPods even before then) and I have access to a lot of other stuff there too, jack of all trades style. Not an apple fanboy, I just hate having to change up something that's working for me already.
I have yet to find an eReader app that does everything I want, though. Besides digitally hand-writing in ebooks (which I understand is a particular challenge due to the format), I always end up trading one important feature for another. If I want an intuitive and simple interface, I have to give up customization options. If I want good organization, I have to give up proper cross device sync. If I want cloud sync I have to pray to the rain gods and light some candles. I rarely read from web since my iPad is a full laptop replacement to me, so this will all be iOS and iPadOS app perspectives.

Baseline for Comparison to BookFusion:

I have and still have to use the usual Apple Books, Kindle, Google Books and Kobo apps since my purchases are locked there for now. My latest and current app of choice was Eboox. It's made by a quiet little dev team. It's a 2 page app basically. Library view or shelf view. Some customization settings, but it has page-level Google drive based sync. Same deal, you can upload epubs super easily. I like that it shows me my most recent book at the top, and I can even download converted-to-epub fic and other comic files to this app sometimes. The big cons are that it's not very well polished: updates are slow, the shelving system is infuriating because there is no user created order enforced and since you can't re-arrange books on a shelf, tag, or otherwise subshelve books to group them you're stuck with alphabetical and recency order. On my "Worth Reading Again" shelf I'd like to have all the books from the same series sequentially. Or better yet, let me rearrange them. Annotating on this app is buggy, sometimes the note you typed won't be saved and will be open in the next note you make. The reading view navigation is glitchy and crowded. I have stuck with it because it does the thing(tm) with no forced frills and it is simple and nice to look at.
When Bookfusion came up on reddit in my search for supporting hand-written annotation it was like candy on Christmas. Plus, page level audio integration (something I never dreamed of having on mobile outside of platform lock) coming soon? Amazing. Now, I'm excited.

Initial Reaction/Onboarding:

I downloaded the app and made a quick account (not too many forced profile details too, great!), It was super easy to get started. Importing books is also quick and painless although that 10 books free limit is really nothing for someone like me *more on that later in criticisms.

What I Loved:

1. I was immediately in love with the amount of customization available for the reading view. Full color spectrum background support is awesome! I'll take an all black dark mode theme but for me, cream text and midnight blue background reign supreme for me. I don't normally mess around with the font options much but there were a lot to choose from! Big points.
2. Ability to tweak the epub files summary and meta data right in app is nuts, and incredible. Absolutely my favorite surprise perk so far, I've never had that available in a mobile app.
3. The sidebar is easy to use. I didn't love there being a store in my reading app (see my complaints about platform tying) but it is unobtrusive and I appreciate that.
4. Navigating my collection is straightforward and awesome. I prefer the info view over the gallery view since have a lot of files with no cover. Currently reading book at the top in the main screen is a feature I grew to love so I'm grateful to see it here!
5. I just about cried when I saw the color coded (And searchable!!!) tag integration. I've never had an iOS app do that. Especially on files with a large number of tags, like epubs exported from AO3. It's usually something I categorize on my own via shelves. Pretty damn awesome!
6. The text search is actually useful, God is real. I cannot explain how heinous text search has been on pretty much every where else. Being able to search/ see highlights across books is also legendary. A common note-taking feature but a very uncommon reading app feature (especially working well!)
7. Annotating the typed way (from my iPhone) is awesome. the context menu isn't too crowded, the highlighting is easy (another fully custom color palette, I'm screaming).
8. Speaking of the note view! I love that you can edit right from there without the book navigating to that page, AND you can jump there by tapping the note. Link navigation in general works well.

Nice-to-Haves that came up during use:

1. It would be nice to have the option to toggle off the book preview screen that shows after selecting a book you aren't currently reading. Most of the time, I already know what I'm reading when I open it. I'd prefer to be able view summaries or get this view via a long press on the book or from a context menu
2. I noticed that the order of tags isn't preserved, and instead tags appear alphabetically. Not a big deal, but it would be a nice to be able to preserve the order that they were imported with, and that you could priority order them. It would also help in the info view, since those top tags would be priority order too rather than whatever was closest to A.
3. I noticed that if I tap on a highlighted area I've already annotated it doesn't do anything? I would love to get an inline view of my note or at least a preview of it when I tap on the highlighted portion without going back to the edit menu to do so. Since, you can view all your notes across the book from the right sidebar menu, I can live without it but it would be a very nice to have.
4. Additionally, I don't always want to highlight AND note. It would be cool if you could have notes indicated with a accent colored underline when the passage is not highlighted. Typically, I highlight when I find the text meaningful and note when I have something to say about the content. For instance, I might highlight a stanza of poetry but not have anything to add. Or I might add a not to a passage that does not make sense to me- in that case, I'm not appreciating the writing but I do have something to say about it. Maybe this could be done by being able to preset a with a separate highlight color as default for when specifically selecting to add a note. In my view, notes that I wouldn't want literal highlighting on could be defaulted to a very gray/muted color, and then highlights remain as they are now.

Conclusion: So far I'm pretty impressed, and I know there's even more to explore with Callibre integration stuff too. Right now my central ebook library is hosted on a NAS that needs to be upgraded so it won't take me 20 minutes to download an audio book lol. I'd be interested in hosting my library on a cloud too. I also haven't tested it on ipadOS fully yet beyond the sync capabilities, but I'm already pleased with what I have seen so far in iOS
That does bring me back to the pricing though.

Criticisms

Some minor nitpicks: When I get a reading app, I'm looking for it to be completely usable offline. I think most people would agree? Why would I need to make an account before I even import a book? It feels like a lot of investment before I have even seen the app enough to decide if I will use it? It is understandable for early access but it did somewhat rub me the wrong way.
The Store. I don't love it. I wish it was out of view or something I had to open specifically rather than be in my main navigation bar. I get it, but it harkens back to platform lock.
The future social media-like features: Please, PLEASE make these optional or hideable. I hate this social-media-fication of everything these days. I don't want to be on yet another social media platform, I try to be on as little as possible of the already existing ones that you can barely escape these days. Goodreads and Storygraph already exist and I hardly want to use those. Storygraph is sticking to Goodread's original purpose which was to track your reading easily, and is the whole reason I use it. When Goodreads turned into Amazon's rendition of Bookface, I left the platform. Now it's cluttered with social media features I never wanted in the first palce. Goodreads became hard to use for it's original purpose. You have to constantly navigate away from a feed made up of people and authors I don't care about (because even if you didn't have people to put posts in your feed, they'd make you one based on recommendations and your reading lists....yay). Then the reviews were being censored, Amazon was making it difficult to remove books that were added to the platform without permission and get indie authors that actually wanted to be on there up. Sorry, I'm off track. As you can see I have a bitter attitude toward forced social media features. If the app becomes more complex to use for it's main purpose (re: Do The Thing TM) due to the social features it would ruin the whole thing for me.
The free tier: 10 books + 2 adds/deletes per day is way too low to get integrated into a new platform. I'm sure I would not have had time to consider whether I want to continue with my whole collection in Bookfusion before I reached frustration with the cap. I have at least 50 books in every eReader app I have right now, bar kindle since you can only download 10(?) at a time... but I can download and trade them as often and whenever I want- and I don't even properly OWN those titles half the time. And all of those are free and direct competition to Bookfusion.
In the free tier (without specifically enabling it), I should not be using up any cloud storage. It feels arbitrary to have this limit on the number books I can view in the app when I'm not using any services to do so. My device, that I own, with it's internal storage already holding my books that I also already own. Why am basically forced to be on a subscription to use the app realistically when the app is supposedly free? I would have rather (and happily) paid 4.99 out right to have no local storage limits, and the basic offline do the thing(tm) features. This app is better than any other e-reader I've found on the market so far so it should have a strategic advantage but it feels like I won't even get to experience that before I have to pay- under the guise that the app is free.
It's giving free trial instead of freemium and that doesn't line up with what is shown on the app store page. As it stands, I would not consider this a free app, as you can't use the basic feature set realistically without the subscription. If I only owned 10 books or would be okay to only view 10 books on rotation, I probably wouldn't be looking for something with such a robust feature set so I also feels this contradicts the goals of the market you're trying to capture. I understand pushing conversion, but this actually just scares away people who might have gotten themselves fully integrated into the platform and eventually more willingly paid for extra things one might expect, like expanded cloud storage, real time cross device sync, access to new features etc etc.
this is a bit of a soap box speech but I'm explaining what I would like to see for a subscription model Discord is a great example of freemium. The basic features that make it competitive are completely free. These features are limited to user in a reasonable manner, so that if they don't care too much about streaming in 4k or being a power user with 100+ servers, they can comfortably use the app in the free tier. When I first got on discord, it was to use servers as big archivable and searchable group chat. Much smaller than what it was capable of at the time, but had the easiest onboarding and the lowest overhead to get started. All you need is an email address, a username and an invite. Today, I've been a nitro subscriber since 2018, which is 2 years after I got started on the platform. No one I knew besides my gaming friends were on discord. Slowly, as I convinced more people to join me on the platform (I'd respond faster since I could use the web app at work), more and more of my total communication was happening on discord. Now, I happily pay monthly to have 50 more emojis to take between servers, customize my profile and push my server cap up. I also get to support the devs making a tool I use all the time and get early access to new features. I was already invested in the platform and that guaranteed I would want to continue with Discord enough to want and enjoy these extra features instead of hopping to a competitor like Telegram to start all over.
Because of the 10 book cap, there's no real incentive for me to invest time into importing all my books, making the shelves and tags I want to use, customizing the reading ui and making sure it synced over to my ipad. A casual user could have this experience: Upload 10 books immediately, be blocked from uploading more without deleting and be stuck. "What? Well that sucks, I really liked it so far." and immediately leave for other, worse apps that at least let me import my whole library. I hope this is coming off as constructive because I'm not trying to gripe about price. As I mentioned earlier, I have no problem paying for something I know I'm going to use. It just doesn't make sense for me (and when I say me, I mean the general consumer) to get on a subscription for the basic offline features of an app that I likely just got and am not sure I'll keep by that time. Only, if I don't subscribe the app at base is not very useful.
The Other Tiers: The two highest tiers are the only ones that would be useful to me, so I'm sharing my perspective on those. $10 a month isn't a lot but in the monthly sub competition space it's on the steep side. KU is $15? and I get Amazon's backlog included. This app is fundamentally and demonstrably better than any of the platform based apps, but it's not promising much recurring value in comparison to other subscription style plans. Maybe something like getting the first month for free would help? But mainly, changing between these apps requires decent front load effort on the user (to export their files from somewhere else, onto your platform) and then on top of that, you have to subscribe to read more than 10 of your own books? For me, I see it as dev support so I'm willing but others might not even try it with a limit that low.
To me, I would want to see features like the following to make $10 a month worth the value add:

• Integration with book tracking platforms like Storygraph (I hate goodreads but right now SoryGraph doesn't have the apis for it yet) and GoodReads
• Fancy Export tools for my annotations (to Excel, Google, OneNote Etc)
• Ability to view/export my reading stats by time (last month, last week etc)
• Hide social media/store/ad from sidebar and context menus. and be able to customize it with shortcuts to my most used shelves or something.
• Receive notifications about my favorite author's new books (rss feed or something)
• Strict interest/genre profiles for recommendations (for example: I'm only reading women authors writing historical fantasy this month, only show me those recs. Only recommended me Java17 manuals. Do not recommend horror novels).
• Complete data transparency. Where is my Bookfusion account data going?

But overall, I think this level of restriction will hinder the app more than it helps conversion. Please consider removing the book # (not the feature limits, only the local library size stuff) restrictions and either making the app cost money for those basic offline features or having those certain features be fully free so that the app is functional @ the free tier (and therefore, properly freemium).
I want to clarify in a quick closing note that I'm sharing this to give my perspective. This is not an official feature request or complaint or anything. I thought my onboarding experience and background with ebooks might make for an interesting take by new user but veteran e-reader.

Multitasking is still very terrible. File management is a joke. Mac OS apps won't work. No ports. Gaming still sucks unless you are running Steam link( but need another PC or Mac for this)...btw I tried to pair my ps4 controller to an iPad and all of the sound stops playing through the speaker and gets routed through the ps4 headphone port and there is no way to configure the sound routing because customization has been gutted. Why ? MF baby OS.
and using the App store shouldn't be the only option to get new software (side loading is not universal and still cumbersome in the EU). Again why? Also you can lose App Store apps forever even the ones you paid for if the dev shuts it down (through offloading and accidental deleting).
I hope the future of computing isn't fast and efficient chips but the software is so locked down that every machine becomes a Netflix and email manager. I hate the direction Apple is going. It's like buying a Ferrari but there are no paved roads to drive on.

Im considering logging into office365 on my iPad to better manage my time between work, business and personal life.
My concern is if my employer has any admin access over the iPad, or access to information I might not want to grant them access too. E.g photos, contacts, web history, crypto wallets.
Or am I worrying too much and the only think my employer can do is remove the office 365 access and as long as I don’t do something stupid like email from that account or mix up where I save calendar invites I’m fine?

I am an online student in community college with multiple disabilities that are a result of a traumatic brain injury.
I get extra time on assignments, increased font, ability to type up assignments instead of handwriting everything.
We have to submit our written work after exam and take exam using proctorio. This translates to me using Ipad/apple pencil to copy/paste or screenshot the question from exam onto Ipad so I can then work problem on Ipad with apple pencil. This reduces my writing and prevents errors from copying problem down incorrerectly(I have dyscalculia)
This necessitates the professor adjusting my exam to have extra time and making adjustments to proctorio to allow copy/pasting and the use of electronics without getting flagged/shutdown automatically. Here’s where I screwed up I have been so busy studying and preparing for the exam attending workshops, tutoring sessions etc that I forgot to message professor to get my extra time and adjust settings. I emailed her as soon as I realized this at Sunday at 7pm. She replied a few hours later at 2:44am
“I am having trouble copying the exam to set the accommodations. I will try doing this after the exam has started. I will contact you when the exam is available.”
We only have until Thursday at midnight to complete exam. It is now almost 11:30 pm Tuesday night and I haven't heard anything. I emailed today when she graded my written work from test 2 weeks ago(I had same accommodations then as I have all semester)today asking if she made any progress and still haven't heard anything.
Is it really that hard to add extra time and adjust proctorio settings?
I have a 71 in class. Final worth 25% of grade so I just need to not completely bomb it to pass the class. I failed it last semester. I have 1 class to take after this to graduate.

Hey hey! Went into this with zero Linux experience prior and passed after 3 weeks of studying. Definitely not going to say my process was the most efficient, but here is what I did.
Step 1) Read the whole LPI guide without taking notes. I'd recommend skipping this until Step 4...
Step 2) Downloaded the Exam Objectives pdf. You get it from LPI's site, or the Course Chatter Group Files section. The weight under each section will tell you how many questions will likely appear on the exam from that topic. Topics 2, 3, and 5 take up the bulk of the exam.
Step 2a) You will absolutely need to practice the Shell commands throughout your time studying for this exam. Use the school lab, Cisco Course Lab, or download a copy of Linux. I used a combination of all three throughout my time studying. Step 3) Watch Shaun Power's YouTube series and then Jason's. I watched these in the morning while getting ready and during my work lunch breaks. Use these to get your feet wet... definitely listen to the instructors when they say that watching these videos is not enough.
Step 4) Went back through the LPI guide... downloaded the PDF version onto my iPad and annotated through out. Digital note taking changed my life, especially when it comes to school. No need to carry notebooks, pens, etc... I use the GoodNotes app and then view the notes on my iPhone. Can search each file for key terms... I can even screenshot pieces of the LPI guide or other content and paste it into my notes. Use the Guided Questions at the end of each topic to practice and skill check. Some of them may even show up on the exam verbatim. If you're struggling to get through the LPI Guide, put it down for a bit and try the Cisco NDG course. It's honestly what the WGU course material should have been.
Step 5) Went through all of the Jason Dion and Cisco NDG practice tests.
Step 6) Watched all of the cohorts. I found the long form version of the cohorts to be just what I needed to round out the topics I was struggling with.
Step 7) Made flash cards out of the "Useful Linux Study Guide" challenging concepts. The document is one the instructors email on day one. A lot of the material covered in the challenging concepts appeared on the exam.
Step 8) Attended both of Dr. Youngblood's Exam Cram sessions. Absolutely do not skip this step. It was by far the best representation of what is actually on the exam compared to the other practice tests available. If you do well here I'd say you're in good shape for the exam.
Final tip: When you go to take the exam make sure that you take the time to read each question thoroughly. Use the flag a question feature for any you're a bit unsure of and come back to it later. Don't stress if you end up feeling like you're flagging a ton of them. I flagged a bunch that I was fairly confident on, but wanted to take a couple more minutes later to make sure that I came at it with fresh eyes.

I use a 16” MPB for video & photo editing, web design & maintenance, and other more complicated work tasks that require the extra computing power. So I am new to home assistant and for my first simple automation I wanted Alexa to be able to use find my iPhone ping when I asked it where my phone was. It was working in HA but then when I exposed it to Alexa it won’t work, and now in HA it’s saying “Error running action. Unknown error” a hunch tells me that it can see my iPad now and the only 2 fields that the integration takes in is email and device name, and I don’t think it found my iPad when i first tested the script so it didn’t matter the device name but now it sees both and think it’s causing an issue. I put the device name as what it shows in iCloud but am I doing this wrong? Please help I’m new so if this is simple I’m sorry.

Growing up I was pretty much forced to hear my parents have sex all the time because of how small our home at the time was. Sometime around 14 (I remember being physically really small), I got so sick of it that I emailed my parents literally while they were having sex, asking them to keep it down (I only had an iPad or some off brand tablet, didn’t have a phone number). Dad responded “you ain’t heard nothing yet.”
The next day they took my tablet and berated me, and later made me apologize. Sometime later, my dad pulled me aside one night and said “if you hear the van a-rocking, don’t come a-knocking.” And yeah, I heard them have loud sex that night.
Over the years I would go through a lot of stuff, including a porn addiction that still has its grip on me, and waves of trying to fight it cold turkey or get help and nothing worked. My parents having sex triggered relapses in the addiction but I was pretty much powerless. One day in my first semester of college, I was up doing work and heard them talking during sex - by this time I was 145 days clean of porn or masturbating, and that was a last straw. I did it. And then I cut myself. And continued to spiral into cutting and suicidality until a mental health hotline called the cops for me and I ended up in a ward for a day.
I haven’t told my parents they were part of the trigger for self harm, which I’ve been thinking about going back into again. I know they’re good people, I don’t want to ruin their lives or mental states. But I feel kind of fucked up. Especially because now all of it gets wrapped up into a fucked up whirlwind. I fantasize sometimes about sex with my mother, or picturing what was on the other side of the door. Which makes me feel absolutely disgusting, which leads to want to go to normal porn to try to get away from those thoughts, which then brings back thoughts of cutting myself to cut out this bullshit.
Even if what my parents did qualifies as sexual abuse I’m not gonna do anything about it. My dad is still my best friend and if something happened to him my life would fall apart.
I just needed to get all this off my chest. If you bothered to read this far, thanks. Any guidance or advice would be nice. I want to curl up into a ball and sleep forever.

Now that Apple has finally launched new iPad Airs, i can finally make an informed decision.
Although i would like to buy the 11 inch air, it seems better to buy a cheaper iPad 10 instead. My basic need is to use it for watching shows/YouTube etc with occasional internet surfing and emails.
The only issue i face is that iPad 10 was launched in 2022 and it being a 2 year old device means it will probably not last much longer (updated wise) than the new iPad Air.

I read the instructions again and again, pre-morning coffee and already dreading the drive to school without Google Maps advising about traffic, not getting my morning dose of mindless scrolling, and missing (ahh) an email or text.

The screen on my phone transforms for a moment, the white apple logo disappears and I am left with just a black screen. I try the technique again, and the apple logo appears again, but nothing else. I robotically book the first available appointment at the Apple store.
I drive the kids to school a few miles away in heavy traffic. The oldest member of the carpool forgets a poster that he has carefully rolled up into a plastic newspaper sleeve. I do the loop again and drop off the poster. Ready for music, a podcast, a quick red light scroll, I glance down at my phone and realize it’s still stuck.
I’m still stuck, I tell my therapist on our video call. It’s been almost a year, and though there have been significant improvements, things still feel very much unresolved. I ask him if anyone has ever completely lost their shit in the store, thinking of my children’s entire nearly decade long history I keep in the palm of my hand and irrationally forgetting whether I “back up”. He says definitely, and I imagine him handing me a box of tissues the way nurses do with automaticity. I’ll be back with help soon, he assures me and I go back to concocting this essay in my head.

I remember that my parents have dozens of albums full of me, packed into the back of the garage, and doubt they ever drag those out. I remember that my ancestors maybe had a single photo or none at all, depending on how far back I time travel. This reminds me of last night at bedtime when Calvin asked if the worms in our brain are where the memories are stored.
The doctor presses restore and goes to look after someone else. I’ll be OK, I say to no one.
Of course, a dog “content creator” with a bucket hat and Hawaiian shirt joins my table and in a moment of extrovert, I share my observations of the hospital waiting room with him. He’s surprised I talk at all, and comments that everyone else would rather just look down at their screen. Agreed, except we can’t and that’s why we’re here. I start thinking, OK as soon as this is over, I’m going to change everything. Cole and I should move to a new place, I should stop looking down at my phone. This is a real problem and it’s time to throw all the energy at it.
The doctor comes back. It’s restored! It’s asking me for iCloud info! We’re back! We both exhale. He’s probably thrilled that he won’t have to console me, and I am already changing as all the familiar apps and photos and hundreds of emails are restored. It could have been a lot worse, we say and laugh. I realize I’ve been waiting for someone to press the up button and then the down button and then the one on the right on me. I’ve been powering on and off as much as possible, doing all the right things (bilateral movement, therapy, gardening, connection) and sometimes not (randomly taking up smoking on a Tuesday for a week or so?). I’m trying to upgrade, or is it restore?
You realize, you’re never going back to the way things were before your loss, right? asks/remarks my therapist. Everything and everyone is growing and changing around your grief, but it’s always going to be there. With the phone beginning to look more normal, I leave the store, updated but not restored. I start to lose the metaphor or is it the analogy in the essay I’m working on in my head. I call the few who need to know, I’m back! I return to my laptop to work, Cole asks me for the carpool line number.
