2024.05.17 09:51 brandimav Fulbright ETA - Questions for Past ETAs

Hey everyone! I’m a current rising senior in university and I need to start drafting my essays, personal statement, and grant. I’m an English major with an interest in becoming an ETA in South Korea, Italy, or Greece.
In the past, Fulbright interested me because of the the open study and the ability to get a masters overseas, but after studying abroad in Rome for a semester I realized an ETA position was right for me. Traveling with the privilege as English as my first language made me realize how vital it is and illustrated why non-native speakers depend on English for success. Anyways, I am getting a tad bit overwhelmed in the process and I have a lot of questions.
I do not have teaching experience, but I’ve worked with children in a daycare and I could squeeze in a TESL certificate before I graduate. I am currently in the process of trying to get more solid experience. Would any of these help improve my chances.
Any past ETAs from South Korea, Italy, or Greece I have some questions.
  1. Where were you placed? Did you like it?
  2. How much of the language did you know before going? Did you become fluent by the end? How much should I study beforehand?
  3. Is the stipend plenty for the region or should I save up?
  4. If you are POC, did you experience any racism in the workplace?
  5. What was it like returning back to your home country? Did the experience help you with your career?
Any past (or current) ETAs from different countries please feel free to share your experience as well!
I appreciate your help! :)

2024.05.17 09:50 MessEither I'm confused and frustrated by the way war on Terra works

Background first. I'm trying to actually complete a game of Terra Invicta. I've started more games than I can count, but usually seem to run into a very frustrating moment that finally ends my immersion in that playthrough and then I'll put the game up on the shelf for a few months. I'm approaching that point in my current game.
I'm playing as the Resistance on just Normal difficulty (see above paragraph as to me never finishing a game.) Overall I'm a bit behind on a couple of techs, but I've managed to grab several very good locations for mines and I have/had a solid base of operations. However the Servants managed to grab the EU and controlled the executive control point for India. As both nations had sizable armies this meant they could use wars to try to flip nations. This resulted in a couple of minor wars that I largely ignored even when I lost both Morocco and Mauritania to a war. Now this was part of the problem, for some reason Russia under Project Exodus control is allied with both India and the EU despite Russia being in conflict with the Servants. Well, after I lost Morocco, India continued its efforts to flip nations I controlled and started a war with Tunisia which immediately became a world war as Tunisia was allied with the majority of my powerful nations. (Portugal, Spain, Japan were allies. Canada, the UK and Germany were controlled by me and joined in as quickly as I could change their policies). And of course Russia joined the fight for no apparent reason.
Well the war started off with me dominating. India and Russia sent 5 units to Tokyo and got swatted by the 2 level 5.2 armies that Japan has (but they did blockade me so none of my military units could move very far.) They also sent 2 Indian armies and 1 EU army into Spain, where they again were smacked hard and retreated to Lyon.
At this point I will admit I went the atrocity route. The 3 units in Lyon were hit by a nuke and destroyed. I then added in the 1 army from Portugal, 3 from Germany and the 1 UK one I controlled and went after Paris. It became a 2 v many fight as the EU had 1 intact and 1 near dead unit. By rotating units through Munich I killed the damaged unit and it looked like I was going to win by attrition. Only for 3 Project Exodus controlled Russian units to show up in Paris. I quickly retreated every army I had to Munich and launched a 2nd nuke. (I really, really wanted to eliminate the EU as a viable enemy military and I wasn't happy that Project Exodus which has a non-aggression pact with me was joining in this war.)
This eliminated the last EU military units in the area, leaving 1 trapped on a Pacific island (only Russia has the navy to get around my blockade at this point.) But 3 more Russia armies showed up in Paris, so I just accepted that atrocities were my business and nuked Paris a second time. By this point the EU had lost a control point. I did see Barcelona nuked in retaliation by Paris, costing the Protectorate a UK army they had moved there. (Munich, London and Madrid all have space defenses so the AI was just taking out the nearest army they were permitted to destroy.)
You'd think it was over, especially as I was able to have Tunisia pull out of the war, so it was now my European nations fighting against. (EU - no armies left, territory hit by 3 nukes, India, blockaded and Russia, 3 armies left, 2 with navies.) But the AI refuses to accept that this war isn't doing them any good despite the world economy now crashing. Russia even set up to send one of their 2 armies that had a navy attached into the fray, but it died in a nuclear explosion in Rostov. The last remaining Russia army with a navy then moved to Siberia and appears to be parked their, even though the nation won't leave the war.
Now I'm rotating about 7 different armies through Paris, but seeing my occupation percentage drop or at least fail to rise while I'm not receiving any offers of peace. (I rotate out any army that drops below 30% effectiveness, and try to allow them to recover before rotating them back in.)
So as I say, I'm frustrated by the situation. I have 8 armies involved here, and yet the way the war and damage percentages work I appear to have a 0.000000000000000% chance of ever taking the EU and so my options are continue a war that is hurting my overall economy and efforts to prepare for the aliens (their first assault carrier arrives in a month although I have 3 fleets that will try to force it into a fight before it can drop its armies.)
What am I doing wrong? Right? Or is this a case of me just not understanding WTF I'm supposed to be doing?

2024.05.17 09:45 Beginning_Story1811 Steve Sanderson more like: "Spiderman" or "Invincible" but in the Gorebox universe. When I first created it I was inspired by: Leon Kennedy, Javier Garcia but now it has gone much further

 Steve Sanderson more like:
Quotes and Character Characters
  • Steve Sanderson
For the Gorebox universe, Steve is minor and rarely participates in important events. They even often beat Phil or Gary in battle, although Steve they have more skills. Well: Steve Saved from death twice Gary - Steve is a good guy, but in order to survive, fulfill his promise and live for the sake of his friends, family and squad, he had to kill. Sometimes what breaks this is this: Steve always goes to the end to survive, seeing death new Friends Steve Animosity A little reserved and it is clear that he is very experienced by his face, but still his cheerful character and jokes will always remain with Steve. - For Steve, the Helmet is more than a Helmet, it is a part of him and his symbol. There will often be parallels or symbolism with it. Sometimes it was he who gave Steve a second life and at the same time it pulls him down - Steve, unlike Gary and Phil, is not so psychologically stable, so adapting for the first time to survive was very difficult for him and at the same time adaptability is Steve’s specialty, sometimes he can lose But he will survive. - Steve is afraid that he will be loved, but at the same time he tries to protect his friends at all costs. Young Steve was still a coward - Steve's fighting style is similar to: John Wick only easier, Leon Kennedy - There may not be a good ending for Steve, but there is a chance. - Steve and Gary it's: Hope, Depression, Ptsd, Wild Power - Steve is not the kind of person who will sacrifice himself But at times he is reckless and seems to want to die - Often uses a helmet as a weapon - Steve is sometimes a Punching bag . No matter how they beat him or throw him
Steve Quotes (Frequently used phrases)
1) Cool 2) Okay, Cool 3) Sorry.. 4) Well, okay 4) WHY GARRY!? AH.. ok 5) Come on, man 6) Yeah, cool 7) PLEASE NO!.. AAAH-M 8) What? FUCK YOU 9) My father say,A long time ago: Hope is always dead until you start believing in it. Why didn’t I use it in my 6th grade essay then? Hm, bu.. 10) Wow, good 11) Not MY back!!! 12) Hi, Im Steve Sanderson 13) ETHAN!!! ..again!!?Ah, N-o!!, now My ti-Aam!
Phrases that are often used to describe Steve:
  • Who is Steve? Or - Who is Steve Sanderson?
  • Hey Canadian!
I haven't figured out what to write about Gary or Phil yet, but I'll write about Gary's training
Training and Where does Gary get such skills?
  • 2031 Gary had to survive and adapt quickly
  • Gary survived among mutants and marauders in Lambert City
  • Gary was in a military camp where, like all Survivors, they were taught to shoot weapons for self-defense and training and warm-up were constantly carried out
  • Gary got caught up in the events Gorezone. Gary was in one of the squads Gorezone Where, like all the newcomers who were brought in, they underwent intense training, sometimes to the point of death, Phil may have been there too. Gary was later forced to participate in a suicide mission. During all this Gary's team was Garik Lincoln and Drab. Garik Lincoln taught me a couple of tricks and how to use a knife correctly (Steve studied with Garik) Drab already taught everything basic: fighting style, shooting, he simply taught and told a lot of things. Drab was somewhat similar to Gary and as if Drab was the only one who understood him, he became almost like a Father to him. But later either Gary himself killed Drab or someone else. Gary was sad, but Drab just took off his mask and put it on Gary's face (at that time Gary still had visible Scars and burns). Well, other members could teach something, Gary could watch, Sparring
  • Just Experience
  • When everything more or less calmed down. Gary was involved in crime and was a smuggler. Could be a mercenary, a scientist
  • Gary wanted to take revenge on Phil for everything he did. Break it up and find out the truth why he did all this, it was because of Phil that Gary went through everything, he was offended + Gary and Phil are friends, were friends. Steve maybe Replaced Phil for Gary, but those harmless times will never come back.
  • Just Training + Survival
Fun fact: Gary didn't immediately find out that Steve was Phil's cousin.
Steve: Wait, you say Phil Timsky? Wait, its you..ha, I wonder why you remember me.
Or
Gary: Phil Timsky your Cousin? Steve: ...Yes, how you Did you find out? Well, okay, but what?
Well, or Gary and Steve might have already met somewhere

2024.05.17 09:40 Puterigracem What else can I add to my application?

I’m a junior in high school, female, looking to apply to USAFA and USMA to be Class of 2029. I feel pretty good about my application, and will be going to all three Summer Seminars this Summer, but I’m curious on what else I can add in my last year of high school. Here are my stats:
3.94 UW GPA, 4.33 W (will be 4.5 after this year) have taken maybe 5 honors and 5 APs (Euro, Calc AB, Seminar, Lang, Bio) and will take 5 Sr yr (Stats, Physics, CSP, Gov, Macro) School doesn’t do class rank but I would estimate myself to be top 20-30 out of 470.
35 ACT (34 math, 35 science, 36 english, 36 reading, and 9 writing, took it three times) 1450 SAT (700 math 750 english, took once bc school offered it for free)
By the time I graduate, I’ll have 4 years of varsity swim under my belt and 2 years of water polo. I’m not super good at either though so I don’t do club and haven’t won any league awards. But I can pass the CFA and will train hard for it this Summer. When I was younger up until age 12 I did martial arts for 5 years… but I don’t think that’s relevant anymore.
C/Capt in Civil Air Patrol, joined in 2020 and will be a Squadron Commander at my state encampment this Summer (will be leading 60+ cadets, it’s a big encampment). I will be Cadet Commander of my local squadron during my Senior year and have won two Gold Presidential volunteer service awards from 350+ service hours over 2022 and 2023. I’ll hit C/Maj before I apply to USAFA. I also do CyberPatriot competition, I did 5 years of it and my team made it to Semifinals every year.
I’m in the STEM leadership institute, which is a program at my school, and I’m in Mathletes club, and did Mock Trial for two years, was vice president before I quit to join water polo. I also teach kids from my parent’s country of origin English online for an hour once a week, have been since sophomore year spring.
I was hired as a lifeguard by my city and I’ll start working in a couple months when my paperwork goes through and hopefully I’ll do that until I graduate. Also, this Summer I’m trying to get EMT certified at a course in Texas. Ultimately I want to go into medicine in some capacity, majoring in biology at the Academy so I think this is a good step to take.
I think that’s everything. The biggest reason behind why I want to go into the military is because I’ve always wanted to be a doctor, and I feel like I have a sort of moral obligation to serve and make people’s lives better in any way I can. There’s more, I wrote my Summer Seminar essays about it a little bit.
Any input?

Mobile SEO: 10 Optimization Tips to Build a Mobile-Friendly Site

Mobile SEO optimization is crucial for building a mobile-friendly site that ranks well in search engine results. Partnering with a reputable mobile SEO agency or company can ensure your website is fully optimized for mobile devices, enhancing user experience and boosting visibility. These specialists employ strategies like responsive design, mobile-friendly content formatting, and page speed optimization to maximize mobile search performance. By prioritizing mobile SEO services, businesses can capture the growing market of mobile users and stay ahead in the competitive digital landscape. Trusting experts in mobile SEO ensures your website reaches its full potential in the mobile realm.

Here are ten optimization tips to ensure your site is mobile-friendly and ranks well in mobile search results:

1. Responsive Design: Utilize responsive web design to ensure your site adapts seamlessly to various screen sizes and devices. This approach allows your site to maintain its functionality and aesthetic appeal across different platforms.
2. Fast Loading Speed: Mobile users expect quick access to information. Optimize your site’s loading speed by compressing images, minifying CSS and JavaScript files, and leveraging browser caching. Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool can help identify areas for improvement.
3. Optimize Images and Media: Use compressed images and videos optimized for mobile devices to reduce load times without sacrificing quality. Consider lazy loading images to improve initial page load times, loading images only when they come into view.
4. Mobile-Friendly Navigation: Simplify your site’s navigation for mobile users by using clear, concise menus and navigation buttons. Implement a hamburger menu for easy access to additional navigation options while conserving screen space.
5. Readable Text and Font Sizes: Ensure text content is legible on smaller screens by using appropriately sized fonts and maintaining adequate spacing between lines and paragraphs. Aim for a font size of at least 16px for body text to enhance readability.
6. Optimize Forms for Touch Input: Streamline forms and input fields for mobile users by minimizing the number of required fields and optimizing input elements for touch interaction. Use input types such as “tel” or “email” to trigger the appropriate keyboard for specific fields.
7. Implement Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP): Consider implementing AMP to create lightweight, fast-loading versions of your web pages optimized for mobile devices. AMP pages are designed to deliver instant access to content and are favored by search engines for mobile search results.
8. Mobile-Friendly Content Layout: Arrange content in a vertical, single-column layout to accommodate scrolling on mobile devices. Avoid using pop-ups or interstitials that can disrupt the user experience on smaller screens.
9. Optimize for Local Search: Capitalize on mobile users’ intent to find local businesses or information by optimizing your site for local search. Include relevant keywords and location-based terms in your content, meta descriptions, and titles to improve visibility in local search results.
10. Test Across Multiple Devices and Platforms: Regularly test your site’s performance and usability across various mobile devices, operating systems, and browsers. Use tools like Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test and BrowserStack to identify any issues and ensure a consistent experience for all users.

2024.05.17 08:51 Such_Performance7913 Many people are missing the point

A lot of y’all saying EP24 ain’t got shit cuz CA was in the building for <5 min so the footage would amount to nothing.
It’s almost like everyone’s focused only on the footage, not on the narratives.
I think what people need to be focusing on instead is the inconsistencies in CA’s story, that makes his explanation for what happened “that night” unreliable
Why is it unreliable?
  1. How many “Beats” can he listen to in <5 min, like EP24 pointed out
  2. Someone already pointed out in the sub that he copy pasted that paragraph from back in October
  3. Least valid point - He has auditory issues, not saying people with distorted hearing can’t enjoy music, but yeah something seems off
Why would CA conceal his true intentions for why he was there? That’s something yo think about.
That’s the big hole in the story, that’s why his testimony is less reliable than EP24’s. If the story doesn’t match with verifiable info such as footage, entry-exit logs or whatever, it proves that CA lied big time
We shall wait and see how this unfolds

2024.05.17 08:49 forewrite My 17-step process for writing really good blog posts that people will ACTUALLY read

I've been writing blog posts for the last few years. Over time, I've come up with a good system that actually has a soul and not just pieced together purely for SEO that no one would enjoy reading.
Here it is:
  1. Work out the title I’m going to write - like is it going to be an ultimate guide, best practices etc.
  2. Read through 10-20 already written blog posts + additional research outside of the SERPs to deeply understand the topic.
  3. Pull out bullet points of the interesting bits. Have a Notion page to organize this.
  4. List out my angle so I can remind myself that I’m not just re-iterating stuff from other posts but have a different eye. For this one it’s specifically for B2B SaaS and things I’ve seen work. Most other articles cover eCommerce etc. use cases which a SaaS marketer wouldn’t care about.
  5. Roughly list out the sections I’ll write based on the SERPs. Just the headings and some bullet points. I have used forewrite .com ai copywriting tool.
  6. (This is the outline done)
  7. Pull up tone reference. I LOVE marketermilk [dot] com’s tone. It is very friendly with good structure for SEO. I have this open the whole time I’ writing.
  8. I start with a good opening story. Had 2 different options for this one. Bullet points to expand on later since sometimes as you’re writing, the story up top changes.
  9. Have 2-3 other blog posts/references open to pull in insights from as I’m writing.
  10. Then it’s just writing to fill up each section. I try to give out hidden gems, things that only a deep expert would know instead of plain-old click here click there. In this post, I talked about give your team “Full” access because that’s what I do. People appreciate this.
  11. I add contextual images along the way with annotations and add alt tags in a way that when screen readers read it, it makes sense as a sentence.
  12. I try to start every section off with an overview of what the reader will learn upfront.
  13. Paragraphs should have less than 3 sentences. Any time there is a long list of items, I immediately delete and make it a list because it’s much easier on the eyes.
  14. Instead of a conclusion that just reiterates what you read I do a Next Steps to provide a jumping off point.
  15. I leave sentences half-written when they are obvious what they are going to be about and move to other sections.
  16. At the end I do a full read through, complete sentences and only edit and then do another fixing/rewriting.
  17. I have Grammarly turned on the whole time to provide edits
What's your writing process?

2024.05.17 08:48 forewrite My 17-step process for writing really good blog posts that people will ACTUALLY read

2024.05.17 08:44 XZCosmos1 Pre-Nursing Tips V2

Hi all UPN/Pre-Nursing people! I just wanted to write out some tips on how to look best on your NursingCAS applications for your goal starting semester. This is a pretty detailed guide with some good calculations to determine other scores beyond just the basic impaction score. This also provides some resources for your TEAs that I found most useful. This guide is directed towards those applying to SJSU especially those on the Pre-Nursing Track at SJSU.
Don't flop your first semester: It is true that the first semester of college has a learning curve, but it is still important that you stay focused and maintain a high GPA. For many this is the easiest semester, but don't be fooled English 1A or Chem30A/BIOL65 will bite you in the butt last second.
Aim for a high GPA not solely TEAs: As much as people brag about their TEAs scores a GPA at SJSU is much more important! If you have a 4.0 GPA and score lower on your TEAs you will have a way better shot at getting in. Take this for example: a person got 2 A- in 3 unit courses out of the big 8. This makes their cumulative GPA a 3.94 GPA. If this person applied to nursing against a person with a 4.0 this score is then doubled, for impaction. 8 compared to a 7.88. With 2 A-'s you now need to do better than 3.5% of whatever teas score the kid with a 4.0 got. Also keep in mind that SJSU already requires a 84% to even apply leaving a 16% playing field. If you get a 4.0 and a 84% a person with 3.94 needs to get a 87.5% on their teas!
Don't rely on comparing stats to AllNurses: This is a hot take, but hear me out; 60 kids get into SJSUs nursing program and maybe 10 people post their stats on AllNurses. I am throwing no shade saying this, but these are the people that are for the most part going to get in. Some claim to have 4.0 GPAs, 98 TEAs, 2000hrs of Healthcare experience, and co-reqs done too. Obviously they are going to get in but, that spot is now taken from a person bringing it down to 59 others. It is nice to have a comparison to, but unless more people post on it people are going to have skewed to the right opinions. There are tons of applicants and there are different groups of people apply. The overachievers, the average, and the prayers. Most people are average and do not have the crazy stats these people have. There are some people that do post stats that are more relevant to compare to such as a 4.0 with an 88% or something like that. Again this is highballing and it is important to really dig deep into who got accepted when using this platform. A 92% TEAs is what even the pre-nursing advisors and these guys want you to drop the major. Do realize that if you have a lower GPA you will need a higher TEAs. Doing this calculation [20(4-(current GPA))*3] will tell you what you need in comparison to a 4.0 GPA.
The minimum GPA and TEAs: Yes it is true that if you do have a pretty poor GPA (3.3-3.4) and don't have the TEAs to make up for it then it is probably unlikely you will get into the program. But, at this campus the stats are never posted for who gets in and during which semester. Recently SJSU raised their TEAs from a 78% all the way up to a required 84% which to me is crazy high! I assume this is to cut down the amount of applicants and in turn this makes the TEAs pretty irrelevant to the total stats. With only a 16% max gap, now any person who is able to apply to nursing must have at least that score making the GPA that much more important. If you have a 3.9 GPA and a 94 on your teas, a person with a 3.8 will still get outcompeted regardless of TEAs score. This is most likely why the GPA was lowered for nursing and is now a 3.3 instead the previous 3.4 because some kids may have done well in the GPA aspect and messed up their TEAs. Aim for a higher GPA but do realize that a lot of kids do manage to get really good GPAs that correlate with good TEAs scores. Get a good GPA, 3.8 and above is pretty good, a 3.9+ is quality work for both Fall and Spring semesters, and make sure to aim for higher than the TEAs threshold.Nursing advisors deter people from applying but, it is accurate that as of Fall 2024 that you have to be at the top to get in. Keep in mind that there are 500+ applicants and only 60 get in that is only 12% of the applicant pool. You need to aim for the 80th percentile at the minimum to be on the waitlist first round (beating 400 other applicants)
TEAs Test: Now I know I have talked a lot about the importance of the GPA, but regardless you still do want to do well on the TEAs. Your TEAs score, like I talked about above, is directly related to your GPA. If you got a lower GPA you need a high TEAs and if you got a high GPA you can slack on the TEAs score. If you have a low GPA this will make or break the odds of getting in and every 3% on the test you get a .1 point increase. Going against what I think everyone I have ever talked to has said, for me personally I say take the TEAs online, if that is still an option. Not only can you take the test literally whatever day you want, you can also take it at whatever time of that day you selected as long as a proctor is available. Some argue that the they test better when in a school environment and this is valid, but I also test better in those environments and I bombed my first TEAs due to nerves. When I took it online the only stressors were if the test were to crash or the proctor flagged my exam for no reason, but neither of those happened not even close. The low stress of being at home and taking the test when I wanted to allowed for much better results and comfort. You get to finish the sections when you want. If you think you are done and don't want to triple check your answers to save the brainpower for later sections you get that option. Take the test where you think you will test best though and take these words with a grain of salt. I just wanted to say that the TEAs online is the same content as it is in person and at the leisure of your home. Not many people talk about how the TEAs online is positive for some people!
Get the extra points if you can: The extra points are pretty easy to get at SJSU especially as commuters. Of course nobody can make themselves a first generation student, but if you are that is easy free points and congrats. No one has a clue what SJSU gives as a "bump" to an applicants score and it is honestly only there because everyones stats are so similar so they need more tie breakers. Granted, you will most likely want to win the tie breaker and in order to do you have to at least have all the co-reqs done. I want to be straight up and say I think the vast majority of students have these all completed prior to applying for the Fall because you have an extra semester (maybe not Spring idk). So make sure to have these all completed so you are not left behind and waste an attempt in the SJSU applicant pool(unless you have great stats t or have healthcare hrs instead then just apply). You only have 2 attempts at applying to nursing at SJSU so make them count. If you can, there is also the healthcare hours bump. This is a bump isn't achieved by all applicants and could help if you have lower stats. Keep in mind that this usually involves volunteer work once a week for 4hr shifts so you will be wherever you choose to stay for about 6 months (decent time commitment with school). I've heard that the healthcare hrs are pretty lenient about what exactly you did as long as it is part of the healthcare field and you can get it signed. Of course if you already have had a health job within 3 years this is a free point bump too!
Spring semester isn't as easy to get into as it once was: SJSU changed this policy. In 2023 only transfer students can apply for SJSU fall semester cohorts, no longer accepting post-bacs. Whereas spring semester cohorts will accept post-bacs and no longer accept transfer students. This means that Fall semester likely is getting more difficult to get into as all transfer students have to apply for the same cohort. It is believed that the School accepts a bunch of SJSU students and after the initial acceptance everyone on the waitlist is combined meaning more transfers will get in from the waitlist process as they may not have made the original cut with the SJSU students bump. This would also mean there are less opportunities for SJSU students to get in during the spring cohort as they battle against stronger transfer candidates. As for transfers, in Fall there are more opportunities to get in as more are accepted initally and through the waitlist process. For post-bacs the same process is in place but, since the top UPN students (because they were following the exact track) were picked out for Fall stats could be a little lower. Regardless, Fall semester cohorts I would assume have slightly higher impaction scores from all areas that are applying as most students took their time throughout all the courses and UPN program students are all expected to apply for Fall semester. Take this all with a grain of salt since again there are no exact numbers of all that get accepted as transfers and post-bacs and if these numbers have increased because of this change.
Remember your overall GPA prior to applying does matter: Your overall GPA does matter when applying for nursing at SJSU! When it comes to tiebreakers if everything is the same - the gpa, the teas, and the extra points - the school will look at overall GPAs to decide who gets in. So make sure to get good grades in that moral issues class freshman year because it will come back to haunt you if you don't get in because of it.
Don't Break down!: It is easy to read all of this and think that you are screwed, but it is important to remember that many people are in the exact same situation. We are not all getting 4.0s and 92s on our teas like our advisors tell us we need. Expect A-'s and a B+. No stats are published and nobody knows for sure what you need but the advisors say people get "mostly a's". Aim for the highest impaction score that you can get and don't slack on it because literally that is what is determining if you get in or not.
Waitlist: If you get waitlisted it really is not the end of the world. Most schools send out acceptance letters in two waves one at the beginning/mid of April and at the end of April where people accept of decline their schools. SJSU keeps a long waitlist because a lot of people drop the school for more local schools/bigger name schools so never lose hope. I've heard stories of people being #70 on the waitlist and still getting in. (FYI you have to contact someone to check if you were waitlisted you will not get any notice of what is taking so long for your acceptance. only when you are on the waitlist can you contact staff about your placement. Staff will not tell you where you are if you are not emailed by Nursing that you are on the waitlist.)
EXTRA Info:
TEAs Studying TIPs:
Application Assistance:
I know this whole process is stressful and pretty terrifying, but everyone has a chance. This is just what I have learned throughout the whole process and hopefully it will help others that have 0 clue what is going on. Although some of this may make it seem like you need to have crazy high stats I am just trying to say do your best. If SJSU ever posts the stats for accepted applicants this would a be a different story. This is a CSU so unfortunately this application does follow the "a single number means everything" this means your impaction score is who you are; not necessarily how well rounded you may be. Good luck to all future nursing applicants and congrats.
"Congratulations! This email is to inform you of your provisional acceptance to The Valley Foundation School of Nursing at San José State University" Fall
You can DM if you have any questions.

How to Do SEO for Your Business Website

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is essential for improving your website’s visibility on search engines like Google. By optimizing your site, you can attract more visitors, increase your online presence, and boost your business. Here’s a simple guide on how to do SEO for your business website.

1. Keyword Research

Start by finding the right keywords that potential customers might use to search for your products or services. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or SEMrush to identify relevant keywords with good search volume and low competition. Focus on both short-tail (e.g., “shoes”) and long-tail keywords (e.g., “best running shoes for women”).

2. Optimize Your Content

Once you have your keywords, incorporate them naturally into your website’s content. This includes your homepage, product pages, blog posts, and meta descriptions. Make sure your content is informative, engaging, and relevant to your audience. Avoid keyword stuffing, as it can harm your rankings.

3. Improve Website Structure

A well-structured website makes it easier for search engines to crawl and index your site. Use clear headings (H1, H2, H3) to organize your content. Ensure your site is easy to navigate with a logical menu structure. Create an XML sitemap and submit it to search engines to help them understand your site’s layout.

4. Enhance Mobile Friendliness

With more people using smartphones to browse the internet, having a mobile-friendly website is crucial. Use responsive design to ensure your site looks good and functions well on all devices. Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test can help you check if your site meets mobile usability standards.

5. Increase Page Load Speed

A fast-loading website provides a better user experience and can improve your search engine rankings. Compress images, leverage browser caching, and minimize CSS and JavaScript files to speed up your site. Tools like Google PageSpeed Insights can help you identify and fix performance issues.

6. Build Quality Backlinks

Backlinks from reputable websites can boost your site’s authority and improve your rankings. Focus on creating high-quality content that others want to link to. You can also reach out to industry influencers, write guest posts, and participate in online forums to build backlinks.

7. Use Social Media

Social media platforms can drive traffic to your website and improve your SEO efforts. Share your content on social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to reach a broader audience. Engage with your followers, respond to comments, and encourage sharing to increase your content’s visibility.

8. Monitor and Analyze Performance

Regularly monitor your SEO performance using tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console. Track key metrics such as organic traffic, bounce rate, and keyword rankings. Use this data to identify what’s working and where you need to make improvements.

2024.05.17 08:29 eynouement do i move on? (how?...) or do i stay. send help ;-; (im 20M, she's 20F)

hey guys, i'm here looking for advice as to what i should do with myself. the story is a little long so please bear with me. (i'm 20M)
i was 18 when i first met my ex-girlfriend back in 2022, let's name her sofa (20F). we were arranged to be in the same class for the first time after going through 4 semesters in poly, right after i went through a break up. i got to know of her beforehand because my best friend back then was pretty close to her, so naturally the both of us hit it off immediately when we found out that we were in the same class. too natural in fact. to me, it felt like she was an extension of me. by the time week 1 ended, we were able to finish each others' sentences, and we knew most of each others' secrets.
slowly but surely, i fell in love. but back then she let me in onto one of her secrets: she had a boyfriend. i didn't want to be a homewrecker, so i kept my feelings to myself. however, said boyfriend was apparently sexually abusive towards her. and throughout it all, i was there for her emotionally and physically (this includes forcing her to give him a bj and to swallow his jizz, and going down on her when she clearly voiced her discomfort.) we'd skip classes sometimes to just be with each other, because she told me that she needed to get away from everything, and as her best friend i couldn't say no. but now that i think about it, it was probably because i too, wanted to spend time with her.
then one night we were out watching black panther 2, and she held my hand in the cinema. that's when i knew that i probably wrecked a home without meaning to. she confessed that she already had feelings for me long before the movie, probably at the same time i started falling for her. she explained how she got together with her then boyfriend: he was there when she needed someone, especially since they were both in the school band (she was the vocalist), he would pull her confidence up when she felt unconfident of herself. gratitude, she called it, with "it" referring to her feelings for him.
she then told me that she believed in the connection between me and her, and i agreed because i too, had never felt anything like this. after that day, i accompanied her to AFA, where she cosplayed as makima and i helped take photos of her. and the next day, our lips met for the first time. she promised that she would break things off with her ex when she flew to new zealand, i trusted her. long story short, she didnt end things with him. but i didnt know that she actually tried her best, but the man wouldn't take it as an answer. (she was the type to never say no) i cut her off there and then, because i didn't want to get hurt any longer.
months passed, and during that period, i went back to my ex. who popped my cherry, and showed me that sex was actually pretty bad. context: i didn't feel good at all, and took 1h30mins to finish. she enjoyed it though, and i later found out that she was lying about being a virgin, and that she actually loves cock. march came and i went to bangkok, thailand on internship with sofa and my best friend. my ex cheated on me 2 weeks into the internship with some streamer on a chinese streaming platform. i have records of her sending gifts to him all the time. strangly, i didnt feel much when i found out, i was actually okay with it. this is where sofa comes in. she held my hand again one night when me, my best friend and her were watching "the whales" in my room. i never thought that she would still have feelings for me, because the whole time people were saying that she gave up on me long ago. and i too, realised that i was not over her. call me a playboy, whatever. but it was my feelings, and i wasn't mature enough to control them. me and sofa fell in love and fixed our misunderstandings.
we spent 5 months together living in the same room. it was like a honeymoon period minus the actual marriage. we had a hard time adjusting to life without each other after we returned to singapore. and we broke up last year december 30th.
thing is, things didn't stop there. she found another guy 3 days after the break up, but still continued to see me in secret and hooked up with me too. all while dating the guy and having sex with him too. (i didn't know they were together, she claimed that they were just friends). soon enough, her own friends found out about our trysts and sold her out to her new guy. i guess he was as delusional as me, because he wanted to hold on. but things weren't the same, and eventually he ended things with her. this prompted her to come back to me, but with a pre-requisite: she wouldn't date me because she needed time to heal. at that point i felt like it was understandable, because she had been through a lot, and on the other hand completely neglected the 4 months of pain that i went through. i finally snapped at her one day, and told that if she wasn't going to try fighting for me, then i wasn't going to. she sent a whole paragraph to defend herself and then blocked me. i thought that i would be able to move on quickly after that, but its still the exact same as the time when i first broke up with her (i didn't sleep for 4 days in a row and collapsed in class, and often locked myself in my cupboard to just cry). i just enlisted in the army a few days ago and i really want to know how do i cope with this, because truth is i still love her.

2024.05.17 08:19 Available-Cap-356 Why do low rank players lie so much?

Every time there is a post about balance you can usually tell the rank of the person who wrote it within the first paragraph. This is also true of the comments within the post as well.
Take the many many posts from people complaining about english. I've seen people say english is completely unstoppable, that games vs english take 40+ minutes every time, that all the pros rate english S++ tier. I've seen shit like people saying longbows counter horseman, that the king is an unstoppable knight that can harass your vills indefinitely.
Literally none of the above is true, and what's worst, there is data that proves it isn't. It takes 5 minutes to check aoe4world to see for example the average english game is 20 minutes, that english doesn't actually perform well until diamond and conq. And yet, when you show these people the actual data they just dismiss it, refusing to believe anything but their own opinion.
Whilst we've always had malding posts on this sub, it has certainly gotten much worst over the last few months, and it is clearly coming from newer players and those who sit at the lower end of the skill bracket. People asking for help countering a strat requesting a replay review used to be far more common. Now it's just constant "I lost to this strat so it must be OP" copium posts.
What I also find hilarious is in a lot of cases these people are playing some of the strongest civs in the game. Like I could understand if you're an abba main in gold coming up against english 20% of the time, that's a tough matchup. But no, a big proportion are HRE, Byz, delhi and rus mains. Clearly with no sense of irony.
To conclude, if you are going to mald about balance, stop over exaggerating and lying. If you legitimately want help in a matchup, post your in game name and people will actually help you. I can guarentee 99.9% of the time you lost because you made a mistake, not because you were playing against a civ you think is OP.

2024.05.17 08:08 Euain_son_of_ Ellis v. Corvallis Update 3

It took me a while to get around to the last update, hence why this one is coming so soon. All I can say is please read this response from Ellis' attorneys. This is fucking art. I will only copy and paste the first, last, and what is, in my view, the most important paragraph for us regular types. And that's half the document, so just go read it.
First paragraph:
The City’s reply mostly restates the arguments in it motion, perhaps a little louder, in case the Court didn’t hear them the first time. Between the preliminary injunction and these motions for summary judgment, the Court has surely heard enough of the parties’ arguments on the merits, so Councilor Ellis will limit this reply to the one new issue that the City has raised in its reply: standing.
Most important paragraph:
It doesn’t matter that the City’s outside counsel has walked away from the parts of the resolution that would remove Councilor Ellis for her discussing certain topics at, among other places, a city council meeting. Those are still parts of the resolution, which has not been amended or withdrawn and still puts Councilor Ellis at risk of losing her office but for this Court’s preliminary injunction. There is no certainty that the resolution will pass in current form if the injunction were lifted. But nothing in the future is certain, and in any event, the standing rules don’t require that. There is a sufficiently credible threat that Council Ellis will be expelled from office for the reasons stated in the resolution—all of the reasons, including the ones the City is now soft-pedaling—to give her standing to challenge those reasons—all of them, again— on constitutional grounds. Plus, Councilor Ellis has made it clear that she will continue to “discuss” prohibited subjects with the city manager, in violation of the charter provision. ECF 16 at 5, ¶ 18. So these same legal issues will continue to arise.
[Note: all Councilors should also do this.]
Last paragraph:
The City tried to get Councilor Ellis to quit and then tried to expel her for some reasons that it now says, in the course of objecting to her standing to complain about those reasons, were not well-considered. That belated “standing” argument does not defeat that part of her claim, but rather proves it. The standing argument should thus be taken for what it really is: as a concession of that part of her claim.
As I said a month ago. Already budgeting for the "1st Amendment Compliance Fee" that will be added to our water bills.

2024.05.17 07:45 Charcasm29 Need Advice: Should I stick around or look for another job??

I am currently 10 months into my first job out of college. I work in an entry level position for an ad agency and our one and only client is a huge billion dollar corporation with multiple lines of business that you have all 100% heard of. I don’t bring that up to brag, but to point out how crazy it is that our client is so profitable, meanwhile I am paid $40k/ year. A large part of my job is dealing with budgets for our ad campaigns, our budgets average around $1M per campaign and we have 10+ campaigns per year, and that’s just the account I work on, other accounts have much larger campaigns.
About 2 months ago i had my performance review with my manager who opened it up by saying “to be frank, you’re a f***ing rockstar. I want to keep you happy so you stay on the team because i don’t want you to leave” and he had no notes for me on what to improve on (yet i got a lot of “meets expectations” on my review…) i used that as an opportunity to express to him that i want to move up in the company and if there is anything he thinks i should work on or begin training on in order to be promoted, i am willing to do it. He basically said “I have to figure out what i can have you do to help you prepare for your next role before you even get there” which sounds like a scam to me because you should promote someone because you feel they are ready to take on that next role, not because they’ve already been doing it…
i brought up to him that i know I haven’t hit a year yet (which according to my contract you need to have been there for a year to be considered for a promotion) but i would like to move up soon, as i feel i have shown how capable and valuable i am to the team (while listing all the reasons) and i asked if he could estimate a timeline for when i might be promoted. He told me we could “discuss again” in Jan 2025 (which would make it 1.5 years of me being in the same entry level position) I pointed out that i have noticed many other people on the team who have the same role as me have been in this position for 2+ years, and i am not willing to wait that long. He gave me the spiel about “don’t compare yourself to other people, everyone is different and it’s important to be patient blah blah blah” I told him, verbatim “i feel underpaid” and he said, verbatim “i agree, you are underpaid”. And that’s basically how the whole review went in a nutshell.
Another thing to note: - the account i work on is just my manager, me, and another person in the same role as me who has been there for 2+ years. Other accounts have a manager, a supervisor, a planner, and 1 assistant (my role). My manager recently went on vacation to another country (with no cell connection or ability to assist us if needed) for 2.5 weeks and my co-worker and i held the fort down on our own, planning 4 different campaigns, communicating with the client, and handling every little detail the whole time. We took it as an opportunity to prove ourselves and i 100% believe that we nailed it. My manager also expressed that he was impressed when he got back and HIS boss (the VP) apparently noticed how good of a worker i am (i was told this during my review). Everyone was also sent a list of responsibilities for each of the job roles of the team a few months ago and i am pretty much already doing the job that i’m trying to get promoted into.
Despite all the stuff i just ranted about, i enjoy my job (as much as one can). I like the people i work with (even my manager, he is annoying sometimes but is overall a nice and easy going person). The dynamic of our larger team is great and i get along with everyone. I am also comfortable with my work load and feel i am more than capable of handling it. I just feel underpaid!! (I also don’t like going into the office 2x a week cause i have a 1.5 hour commute but details details..)
So what do i do? I was thinking of talking to my manager again about the possibility of being promoted once i hit my 1 year? Or do i just start to look for another job? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry this was so long, thank you for reading this far <3

2024.05.17 07:38 TroublesomeTurnip [F4M] Narcos, The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, or Baldur's Gate 3

Hello! I have 5 cravings at the moment which I will detail below but first a bit about me:
I give 5-8 paragraphs on average per role and I can reply once at least once a day, as well as engage in a lively OOC with lots of awesome chatter, banter and brainstorming! Third person past tense is my comfort zone. I want there to be a selection of long-term plots and short-term plots throughout our RP, balanced genres with stakes being both high and low, ample slice of life and character development. I'm not here to rush anything. I also write on Discord only.
By the way, all characters are 18+ and I'd like my partners to be at least 21+ years of age!
Narcos: Looking for a Javier Peña for my OC. I'm happy to write as Murphy as needed. Something set in S1 would work for me. Maybe S2, though I'm not quite finished with it yet.
The Last of Us: I'd prefer writing as OC here but maybe Ellie. I'm looking for a Joel, something pre-season one or post season one. Nothing relating to the video games but I am slowly playing through Part 1.
The Mandalorian: I'm seeking a Din Djarin for my OC. Something pre-season one or set between the first two or last two seasons, would work for me. My Star Wars knowledge is spotty so please be patient, but I'm keen to learn from my partner and read/watch what one might recommend.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle: I'm happy to write Canon or OC and tweak the second film or do something beforehand. I'd love a Jack Daniels, I'm happy to write as Roxy or maybe a redeemed Poppy. I'd also love to have things set in both America and the UK, so our plots and settings can expand and Jack not be a double agent.
Baldur's Gate 3: A Gale or Astarion would be ideal here. I'm open to playing an OC or maybe Shadowheart, Lae'zel, or maybe Alfira. I think doing something post-game or something in the midst of it would work, I'm not too fussy about timing so I'm open to suggestions here. I have played some D&D but I'm not well-versed in the land of Faerûn so maybe we can explore that together.
