Warm, fuzzy, sometimes tangled. Due to the holiday season, it may take up to 48 hours for (1) a post to be approved/ reviewed (2) response to modmail/from a moderator. Regarding the API/blackout we're open again but also watching, listening, thinking hard. Whatever happens needs to happen thoughtfully. Please keep being excellent to each other.

Finished my tapestry crochet square and turned it into a bag.. and it didn't try and catch fire this time.
See this post about the whole fire thing lol https://www.reddit.com/crochet/s/oGPqWxcFsh
Full credit goes to DestinyMakes for the free tapestry pattern.
Not 100% happy with it, it's a bit wonky think the front panel is a row or 2 higher than back panel but I was rushing to get it done in time for a Mitski concert I was going to. The text is a lyric from her song Class of 2013.

The dome hat: end result
A while ago I asked for help in recreating picture number one as a hat; thanks to some excellent crocheters (is there any other type?!) this is now the finished product in picture number two. Thank you very much to everyone who offered suggestions/advice ❤️

2024.06.01 09:28 Neither_Ground_1921 New vendor/artist seeking feedback!

New vendoartist seeking feedback!
On a complete whim and leap of faith, I’m actually following thru on one of those “crazy stupid ideas” we have every day but never do anything with. Well not this time. I, along with my 19 year old daughter, will be vendors here https://www.cannafestohio.com/ in a couple of months! 😀
I’m taking a chance same at letting my creative side bring home the bacon for a while- the corporate side has done great but I’m going to end up soulless soon- i need more love and joy in my life!
Here are the things we’re planning to sell: * Bucket hats - reversible pattern/black, with little stash pockets and buttonholes for the furry clips ears. I’m buying and customising but can also do custom, and hope to have a mix of both if there’s time. Planning to sell for between $35 and $65 depending on what alls been done. * original artwork punch-needle pillows created by my daughter. (She is embarking on an artist life path). * mini selenite wands with wire-weaving of chakra gems down the length (i thought these might be a good souvenir? See if i can add the festival logo or something) * lithographs of some of her original other original art.
I know these aren’t going to appeal to everyone but give us some feedback on our “product line”.
What are some things you’d like to see more of at festivals? What would you do to make your bucket hat even cooler?
TIA!

It's so tedious...
So I got this Japanese colorwork knitting pattern book a while back and didn't really know what to do with it. Yes, I knit but I'm not anywhere near skilled enough for colorworking. So I decided to transpose this bag/purse pattern I saw into tapestry crochet, and that I can at least do. However, this is my first full size project with tapestry crochet and it's just so tedious and there are so many single stitches and 😭
Anyway, I'm a sixth of the way done. Also I didn't really know the appropriate conduct for sharing a pattern like this, so I just took a picture of a small portion of the pattern and a picture of the book title and author.
Also, yarn is caron simply soft (I think, it's been a while), and I'm using the yarn under sc in blo method.
(I feel like I write a whole essay every time I post something)

2024.06.01 09:00 Any_Injury7649 Needing Advice For My Registry!!

I’m currently 23w+3 and these past couple of days I have been all about baby! I crocheted a baby blanket and even little hats for baby and ever since I finished those projects I’m just putting my mommy-to-be energy into a registry!
I would really like some good registry ideas and just anything really that you feel is essential or useful!! What did you put on your registries? (Baby clothing brands, good pacifiers, etc!) anything is useful to me! Just having crazy excitement of all that’s to come & not many people to talk about it with in my life !

Hmm should I switch patterns or power through?
I’m working on a (tank top pattern)[https://www.hookedonhomemadehappiness.com/ombre-crochet-tank-top/], and realizing I may have heavily over-estimated how much yarn it would take. This is a little over a third of the front panel and I’m thinking it’s not going to get into the black of the yarn at the bottom like I was hoping.
Would you keep going to finish the panel and see what happens, or would you cut your losses and frog the whole thing to pick a new pattern?

What should I do with her?
Finished a while ago and still can’t decide what to do with her. Cover an umbrella? Frame in a hoop? What do y’all think?
Unfortunately, I can’t remember the hook size I used, but she turned out to be just a tad over 26” in diameter.
I purchased the pattern (chart) from Etsy, here’s the listing

I’m looking for a crochet ant pattern, preferably a tutorial as amigurumi isnt my forte. The ones i found on yt are honestly pretty lame, i want a sort of normal looking ant, not a bipedal ant wearing a straw hat holding a brief case 😂

2024.06.01 06:30 GoldstoneWolf Technoblade25 (Happy Birthday Techno!)

Technoblade25 (Happy Birthday Techno!)
The dinosaur craft is my own, though the pattern comes from Rose and Lily Crochet on YouTube so check it out if you want to make your own. I love crocheting, and I also quite like dinosaurs, so I thought I would make a Techno-inspired dinosaur (I made the crown into the yellow spikes).
Originally, I was going to do this with someone who I’m close to IRL, Kyber. Unfortunately, Kyber got a little worried that their tribute might come off as offensive, so I’m here to ask the question that their anxiety won’t let them. Kyber is an author, they’re writing books to try and raise money for their service dog, and they wanted to give Techno a character in their book’s/books’ mythology as a “Guardian of Victory”. The books being sold is what made them anxious. So, I’m asking for them.
Thank you for your time. Happy Birthday, Techno.

2024.06.01 05:56 Fickle-Syllabub6730 Why do you think we as gamers get so excited by easter eggs and figuring out deep logic and branching paths of games?

I won't include spoilers in here. But I recently finished The Talos Principle. There's an insignificant mechanic where in some puzzle areas you can find a paint bucket and "use" it on a wall, and you get a choice of some prewritten phrases to write. I found here that the phrases you have available actually are determined by the way you played the game:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2514467238
I got every achievement in the game, and I had no idea. I got a rush of appreciation for the developers. Of "wow, there was this logic and tracking happening beneath the surface that I had no idea about". But at the same time, I feel a frustration. If I didn't look this up, I never would have realized that.
I think of this in other contexts. Take games like Fallout: New Vegas. Its branching dialogue paths are legendary in the gaming community. If you went to this town before meeting this character, then did this quest after accepting this other quest and finished it in that way, and have a specific companion and are wearing a hat and have a skill over 70 in Small Guns, then you get this specific dialogue option that can end this quest in a unique way!
Again, I appreciate it, but it feels weird. If I were to look up my options before doing that, I'd spoil myself. On my first playthrough of the game, I have no idea if the dialogue options I'm seeing are just standard Zelda game options, or if each choice actually has some ridiculously deep logic underneath it. If I play the game 50 times, I probably still wouldn't be able to piece all the conditional logic together. Some people say they're able to feel like their playthrough was their own, but I never feel that way.
One last example is Halo skulls. They are hidden in absurd parts of the environment. No reasonable person would ever find one. Yet when I play a new Halo game, I do want to get those achievements and I seek the videos that show the tiny crevices on ceilings which hide these skulls and think "Damn, they really thought to put something here, huh".
In the end, I find the most satisfaction by playing the game once, and then reading the wiki about all the other options I could have taken. I enjoy reading about all this stuff, like how in MGS2, the color of your VR mission background is the time of day of your system clock. But part of me feels like making these features this obscure is kind of defeating the purpose. It feels weird having these "aha" moments while reading a sterile wiki, like I'm reading a report on the game, rather than having the "aha" moment in the game. But at the same time, this stuff is so well hidden that no one would know it.
Just by reading this subreddit, we are all in the top 5% of engaged, active gamers. And most of us probably would not find these features and hidden items ourselves. But if there's a clever Easter Egg, it delights gamers like us, and it shows up as the top comment in any discussion about that game. It's really the 0.001% that strip these games from top to bottom, so the 1-5% of us can read their findings on a wiki, and the 95% of people who play games don't care the slightest bit. Something about that whole pattern amuses, delights and confounds me.
What do you think?

Looking for accent stitch!
I'm making some cute dice bags for my new dnd group, and I'd like to find some alternatives to the accent stitches provided in the pattern. It just needs to be the height of a double crochet and only take one row. Unfortunately, this was a little too specific for google. The ones included in the pattern were regular dc, crossed dc, and bead stitch, Any others yall can think of?

2024.06.01 02:59 RevolutionaryYam8783 I love dragons

I love dragons
After about 3-4 months of practice with crocheting for the first time since my grandma taught me the basics as a kid, I finally took on a more complex project. I started with some granny squares, but then became hooked on Amigurumi. After a few small simple youtube Amigurumi tutorials, I moved on to buying some more detailed patterns from Etsy. These were the two projects I had been looking forward to the most and was working my way up to, was excited with how they came out and just wanted to share.

2024.06.01 02:21 Reasonable-Cicada865 Gauge swatch trouble

I usually don’t make gauge swatches; I use the hook suggested in the pattern and hope for the best. However, I did make a gauge swatch for my current project and it’s too small. I am making a blanket using HDC, but part of the blanket will be tapestry crochet (there will be words). Will using a larger hook size affect how the words will come out since the stitches will be looser? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!
