Skin reacting to topical minoxidil

2024.05.17 13:28 ask4ever Skin reacting to topical minoxidil

I started topical solution (5% min+ 0.1% fin) about a month ago because I noticed recession on the front. Crown and overall density is still fine but I wanted to catch it early. Everything was going well and I started noticing new miniature hair on the hairline a week ago. Around the same time, I had an allergic breakout/flare up all over my face resulting in redness, hot ears, itching, hives and all that which has never happened in my life. It started spreading to my arms as well. I suspected some foods so I eliminated them but that didn't help but then I finally cut out topical for a few days and the rashes went down and I've been healing. But, I am disappointed because the topical was working so well. Coming to my actual question, given that my facial skin is thinner and more sensitive and the crown area is thicker, would applying it on the crown help with the hairline as an indirect application due to the systemic absorption? Foam resulted in a reaction as well so that's not an option either way for direct application.

2024.05.17 13:24 OutlandishnessNo1371 Is this also due to B12 and D Deficiency? Pls Help

I am 21M, a vegetarian from India. I had a violent cough and after medicines I developed constant burping, which led to throat issue (LPR kind). So I went to GI and he gave me, Rifaximin (2 weeks), PPI (20mg 2 times a day for a month), and 2 other medicines. Today is last day of my PPI, will be going to the doc tomorrow.
My side effect since starting the medication is
I did the blood work yesterday and my Vit B12 is 184 pg/mL (Ref: 239-931) and Vit D is 11.2 ng/mL (Ref: 30-100)
My sodium, potassium, iron serum, calcium, magnesium are in the range.
I just want to know if all these symptoms are due to B12 deficiency? (Especially the hand getting swollen at night when sleeping on a incline). Because I thought it will be due to fluid build up due to less water absorption caused by magnesium/potassium. But as they are correct I am worried about that.
Also can the GI issue be due to low Vit B12 / Vit D?

2024.05.17 13:23 Economy_Contract_14 My Journey with Addiciton (With T levels)

In 2010, I was facing felony charges for distribution of drugs. I was a drug addict. Hook line and sinker. But never admitted that to myself. My drug of choice? Anything I could get my hands on. Cocaine, ecstasy, weed, Xanax, Oxycontin, ciggys, alcohol, ativan, seroquil, spice, mushrooms.. You name it.
Desperately wanting to avoid prison time, I did whatever I could to turn my life around. The potential pain in carrying on was too great to tolerate. This was my rock bottom.
I enrolled in college, started working out every day, got rid of any "friends" that wanted to continue that lifestyle.
And quitting my daily drug use?
It wasn't a factor. I was too scared. I was willing to do anything to escape my prison sentence so I dropped them all without looking back. I was lucky. Lucky I had hit rock bottom. Lucky that everything collapsed around me. I needed a push and this was it.
Apparently the judge saw that I was making real change and I was able to avoid prison. I was slapped with a couple of felonies, fines, and drug and rehab classes.
Having felonies on my record was hard. I couldn't get a decent job. Even Walmart was excited to hire me, but then rejected me because of my record. I knew that I had turned a new leaf. I just needed someone to see that I was changed now.
Luckily, I found a family that needed help with their special needs kid.
I worked for them for long enough to get my felonies reduced and expunged off my record.
When hard drugs turn into soft drugs.
I thought I was "drug free" because I had stopped all illegal drugs. But soon I found myself consuming copious amounts of caffeine in order to lose weight and get "Jacked". You see, I found a passion for natural bodybuilding and Jiu-Jitsu around 2011.
I consumed endless content on how to lose body fat so I could finally get a six pack. A lot of YouTubers at the time were promoting pre-workouts like Jack3d. Which also had another stimulant called 1,3 dimethylamylamine - or DMAA. Which was banned after it had become known to be problematic.
So there I was, taking Jack3d, working out, and trying to figure out how to get a six pack. I hired the same coaches that my favorite YouTuber Matt Ogus had. 3DMuscleJourney. I got very serious with Diet and training.
When I started with 3DMuscleJourney in 2012, I had been working out for a solid year. I had gotten down to 195lbs from 215. Not a huge difference. And I had put on a good amount of Muscle in that time.
3DMuscleJourney taught me and guided me on how to train effectively while dieting and how to diet efficiently by tracking macros. But my preworkout and caffeine use had spiked up 1,500mg a day. I used caffeine as a substitute for food. After 12 weeks, I was down to 160lbs.
I was fit by any person's definition. My new found glory would soon collapse as my caffeine and DMAA use caught up to me. I started having bad shoulder pain, my joints were achy and cracky, popping every time I moved. I started stretching and doing mobility exercises but the pain in my body only got worse. I was unable to sleep. I would have fits of rage followed by lows of doubt and depression.
Then, I broke. I was no longer able to exercise because of the pain. I started eating more to see if it would help my joints. I quickly gained 30lbs. Probably within only a few weeks. I ended my coaching and started to slip back towards the abyss
That's when I figured out that caffeine and DMAA were both a huge problem.
I had been consuming caffeine my whole life. But never thought twice about it. It was a legal substance that a kid could go buy in a vending machine. How bad could it be? Broken, I decided to quit.
I was quickly able to cut out DMAA. But every attempt at quitting caffeine left me in so much pain that I would quickly rationalize going back to it. I never made it past two weeks.
Why was this harder than quitting all of those harder drugs?
I guess decades of using a softer drug still carves out some pretty steep ravines in your reward pathway. Caffeine was my last vice. Or so I thought..
I read the book "Caffeine Blues". This book explained that caffeine is not healthy in any way. It is a stimulant that causes your body to break down over time just like any drug. The book outlined some of the negatives associated with caffeine.
The list goes on. This was crazy. The book recommended tapering off of caffeine. While I was able to wean down to 300-600 most days. I couldn't get myself to fully commit. I started to look for some help.
Maybe I needed something to give me energy and focus while I quit?
I started to look at "Nootropics" to help me focus. I tried a large variety of them.
Non of this helped me quit caffeine. I soon realized that these legal "Performance enhancers" were just drugs. With their own highs and lows. And negative effects over time. I ended up quitting all of this after a year.
It was back to the drawing board.
Around the end of 2015, I ended up doing a 3 month or so long caffeine taper. Using caffeine powder and a mg scale I bought off Amazon. The plan was slow and steady. 1-2mg per day. I didn't want to notice my caffeine levels were dropping. After about a month under 25mg, I started feeling great.
My joints felt great, Arizona heat was more comfortable, I craved healthy food and exercise, I slept like a baby, the list goes on. I had raised my testosterone levels from 320ng/dL to 575ng/dL.
But then, just as I finally let go of caffeine. There was a surprise. A curve ball that would change my life forever.
The boy who lived...
My first child was to be born. The 24 hours in the hospital was an introduction to the lack of sleep I would face over the next few years. I caved..
One or two cups of coffee later, my son was born, and a new cycle of baby wake me up > being tired > caffeine to get me through the day > poor quality sleep > baby wake me up had begun.
I got got even more dependent on caffeine. I could no longer just take a nap whenever I wanted. I was a mess. Feeling like shit, with high stress, I also started drinking alcohol and smoking weed again. My testosterone levels plummeted down to 275ng/dL.
Great move dad..
I wanted to get healthy again. I started reading books about health, nutrition, meditation, etc. I wanted to attack this problem from multiple angles. I started eating a plant-based diet, meditating, exercising, taking ice baths, etc. I quit alcohol and weed again. Tapering my caffeine down below 100mg again.
I was starting to feel better. Even got my testosterone levels all the way up to 575ng/D
The girl who lived..
Sorry about the Harry Potter references...
Just when I thought it was over, another curve ball to my health goals. Something that would start the lack of sleep cycle all over again.
You guessed it.. another child! This time, there was a baby girl in my house. This new baby came with new challenges. Our daughter was born with cataracts. She had to have surgery at around 3 months old to get them removed. So not only did we have to deal with the lack of sleep stress again, and boy did she excel in that area, we had to deal with putting contacts in a baby...
Imagine a grown man squeezing their fist closed. And you have to delicately open up their fist, and place a sticky note on their palm without bending the paper. And the grown man is also having a seizure at the same time. Also, you haven't slept a quality night of sleep for weeks.
Needless to say, but I'm going to say it, our stress levels shot through the roof. We had new worries and fears about our daughter's condition and the caffeine cycle ramped back up again. All while trying to focus on my new career in IT and raising our other child.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy
I think sometime early 2023, a friend told me he was on Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). I knew my low test levels were due to stress, caffeine use, lack of sleep, belly fat, poor eating habits, etc. But I was desperate for some edge that would help me finally quit caffeine and get healthy again.
I thought, if I can use Testosterone to help me get healthy, then I can get off of it later and not suffer any consequences.
Boy was I wrong
TRT did give me more drive and gusto to get stuff done. It also made me work harder than my body wanted. I started getting more back pain from harder weightlifting session, I actually started doing more caffeine, and even weed again. I was like 6 years clean from weed at this point.
This made me over confident. Like I could handle anything, which led to poor decisions. I felt like a horny teenager and it made it hard to focus. I started masturbating furiously..
After 4 months stabbing myself in the ass, and draining my life essence, I decided to quit TRT cold turkey. I knew this wasn't what I needed.
Withdrawals from TRT were bearable. I had waves of depression, lack of energy, etc. But I got through it. I'll probably get my levels tested again soon. As I write this, I have been off of TRT for 12 months now.
I leaned more heavily on caffeine while I was coming off of TRT. My current levels are around 400mg per day. But tapering off is my primary focus. Or maybe I should try cold turkey again? Not sure how I can afford to be a useless zombie for weeks while I have a full time job and 2 kids to look after.
"Semen retention" and NoFap
For years, I had made half ass attempts at doing No Fap and quitting porn. The benefits claimed by people who have tried it are:
I started to read some books about the topic. This big two were "Your Brain on Porn" and "Cupid's Poisoned Arrow". These books took a more Science-based approach. There were also a couple books that were a little off tilt such as "Bliss of the Celibate" and "Why You Should Never Masturbate". These books included a lot of hokey about chakras and religion.
I never made it passed two weeks.
After TRT, I decided to give it a real go. NoFap/ Semen retention felt like my final try at getting an "edge". I lasted over a month. Just around the 3 week mark, I had felt the same benefits of TRT without all of the negatives. I also learned, that you have to be all in.
Any sexual thoughts had to be banished. Just think of something else. If you entertain lust at all, you will fail. Stay off social media where you may run into soft porn, which can start the spiral that leads you to porn, etc.
I was able to control my caffeine intake finally, my sleep was better, my wife was more attracted to me, I was more patient with the kids. I finally found the answer.
But then, I relapsed. And lost sight of the benefits. I had forgotten.
Slowly everything started slipping again. With small nofap stints here and there never lasting more than two weeks.
As I write this, I am realizing that caffeine was never my problem. It was a symptom of something else. I am currently on day 6 of retention and have made it my number one priority again. I need to remember this. I need my edge back.
The journey continues..
Life is full of ups and downs. And decisions you make (good or bad) compound over time. I know all of the positive effort, and commitment to personal development has paid off over time. Even though it may have been slower than I had hoped.
This story leaves out a lot. But I'd love to have a conversation with anyone who has had similar struggles. I have been going at this alone. I can only imagine how much more growth there can be surrounding yourself with like-minded individual
Ta Ta for Now.

2024.05.17 12:52 Healthiermetoday07 The Most Important Vitamins for Men: Essential Nutrients for Optimal Health

Maintaining optimal health requires a balanced diet rich in essential vitamins and minerals. For men, certain vitamins play critical roles in supporting bodily functions, enhancing energy levels, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. This blog explores the most important vitamins for men, highlighting their benefits and sources to help you achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Vitamin D: The Sunshine Vitamin

Benefits: Vitamin D is crucial for bone health as it aids in the absorption of calcium, thereby preventing osteoporosis and fractures. It also supports immune function, reduces inflammation, and has been linked to improved heart health and mood regulation.
Sources:
Note: Men, especially those living in areas with limited sunlight, should consider regular vitamin D level checks and supplementation if necessary.

Vitamin B12: Energy and Brain Health

Benefits: Vitamin B12 is essential for red blood cell formation, DNA synthesis, and neurological function. It helps prevent anemia and supports mental health, enhancing memory and reducing the risk of depression.
Sources:
Note: Older men and those with absorption issues should monitor their B12 levels closely.

Vitamin C: Immune Booster and Antioxidant

Benefits: Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from damage, boosts the immune system, and enhances iron absorption. It also plays a role in collagen production, promoting skin health and wound healing.
Sources:
Note: Regular intake is necessary as the body does not store vitamin C.

Vitamin A: Vision and Immune Health

Benefits: Vitamin A is vital for maintaining healthy vision, especially night vision, and supports the immune system. It also plays a role in skin health and reproductive functions.
Sources:
Note: Balance is key; both deficiency and excess can cause health issues.

Vitamin E: Antioxidant Protection

Benefits: Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant, protecting cells from oxidative stress and supporting immune function. It also contributes to skin health and may reduce the risk of heart disease.
Sources:
Note: A balanced diet usually provides adequate vitamin E.

Vitamin K: Bone and Heart Health

Benefits: Vitamin K is essential for blood clotting and bone health. It helps maintain bone density and reduces the risk of fractures, and also plays a role in heart health by preventing arterial calcification.
Sources:
Note: Consistent intake is important, especially for those on blood-thinning medications.

Folate (Vitamin B9): Heart Health and Cell Function

Benefits: Folate is crucial for DNA synthesis, cell division, and the formation of red and white blood cells. It helps reduce the risk of heart disease and supports mental health.
Sources:
Note: Adequate folate intake is essential for all men, particularly those planning to start a family.

Conclusion

A well-balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains is the best way to ensure adequate intake of these essential vitamins. However, individual needs may vary based on age, lifestyle, and health conditions. Men should consider regular check-ups and consultations with healthcare providers to determine any specific vitamin deficiencies and appropriate supplementation if necessary.
By focusing on these key vitamins, men can support their overall health, enhance energy levels, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases, leading to a healthier and more vibrant life.

Bloody mucus in stool. Please help!
Hi everyone, i’m a 23 yr old female. Throwaway account for obvious reasons.
Since two weeks, everytime I poop there’s bloody mucus in my stool. I’ll upload a pic here (black pic first in case you don’t wanna see it). I don’t have any pain when I poop, but my digestive habits kings changed: I used to defecate in the morning or after lunch (maximum 3-4 times a week), now I defecate at around 10-11 pm. I’m also really really bloated, especially after eating (mom says I look pregnant due to bloating, but I’m 100% sure I’m not). I had a blood test done these week due to another medical issues (microcistic ovaries) and I have low erythrocytes (value 4,13; normal should be 4,31-5,10) and low hemoglobin (value 121; normal should be 123-153). I also have high prothrombin time (INR 1,43) and I got tested for hepatic issues but the tests came back normal (the only abnormal value was indirect bilirubin, the value was 2.5 and it should be 3,4-13,7). I also have low vitamin D and low vitamin B12, although I’m omnivore and I consume animal products daily.
What could be the cause? Please help me, my gp has a long waiting lists and here in Italy getting a colonoscopy or an appointment with a gastroenterologist can take months.

2024.05.17 11:58 Fit-Cauliflower-9229 What should I do?

I’ve kept asking for my b12 and b9 to be checked but the docs I’ve seen never want to because, « you’re probably ok 👍 » ( I have anorexia, and I cannot eat meat or fish because of it)
today I asked again but they said I was going to have to wait a bit since they already did blood test on me 2 times this week.
So around maybe 1 or 2 weeks of waiting.
I want injections but I need a prescription for them.
Should I take sublingual b12 or should I wait for the blood test that may never come.
My symptoms are mainly visuals, like floaters, visual snow, light sensitivity, blur, double vision, but I also have pain on the left side of the body as well as the classic needles, I’ve had them for almost 1 year now
( I had MRI and scanners, I also checked my eyes two times, everything seems fine there)
I read here my symptoms could go more easily away with injections than sublingual.
I also have Iron and vitamins D deficiency, but they only gave me something for the vitamins D…
Apparently from the second blood test my magnesium is alright, potassium « a bit low » according to the docs, which probably mean I need supplement there too, And I also have deficiency elsewhere but they don’t want to give me the results of the second blood test even though I asked for them (only once though)
Should I push more, for everything in general? I’m the kind of person to ask for things kindly and who’s very friendly, but I can be persistent.

Mealtime Milestones: Six Month Baby Feeding Schedule & Transition
As your little one reaches the 6-month milestone, a profound shift occurs in their feeding journey – from relying solely on liquid nourishment to the wondrous world of solid foods. This pivotal stage marks a significant step in your baby's growth and development, setting the foundation for their future relationship with food and overall well-being.
The introduction of solid foods at this age is a critical window of opportunity, as it allows your 6-month-old to explore new flavours, textures, and feeding experiences. However, navigating this transition can be both exciting and daunting for parents. A balanced feeding schedule that caters to your baby's changing nutritional needs is essential to support their optimal growth, cognitive development, and overall health. Care For Child can provide guidance and support during this important transition.
By understanding the unique dietary requirements of a 6-month-old and implementing a well-structured feeding routine, you can ensure your little one thrives during this mealtime milestone. From determining the right balance of breastmilk or formula and complementary solids to introducing various nourishing foods, a thoughtfully designed feeding schedule can unlock your baby's full potential, setting the stage for a lifetime of healthy eating habits.

Understanding Nutritional Needs for 6 Months Baby Feeding Schedule

As your baby reaches the 6-month mark, their nutritional requirements significantly transform. This critical rapid growth and development period necessitates a careful balance of essential nutrients to support their burgeoning needs, thus making the thoughtful consideration for a baby feeding schedule 6 months significant.
Breastmilk or formula continues to be the foundation of your 6-month-old's diet, providing the necessary calories, vitamins, and minerals to fuel their growth. However, at this stage, complementary solid foods are increasingly crucial in rounding out their nutritional intake.

Key Nutritional Needs of a 6 Months Baby Feeding Schedule:

  • Changing Energy Requirements: Your baby's energy needs increase as they become more active and begin exploring the world around them.
  • Macronutrient Balance: Maintaining the right balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and healthy fats is crucial for optimal growth and development.
  • Essential Micronutrients: Nutrients like iron, zinc, vitamin D, and vitamin B12 are particularly important for your 6-month-old's development.
  • Hydration Needs: Ensuring adequate hydration through breastmilk, formula, and the introduction of water is essential for overall health.
  • Introducing Complementary Solids: Gradually incorporating age-appropriate solid foods can complement your baby's liquid nourishment and provide additional nutritional benefits.
By understanding your 6-month-old's evolving nutritional requirements, you can establish a feeding schedule that supports their holistic growth and lays the foundation for lifelong healthy eating habits.

Establishing Six Month Baby Feeding Schedule

Creating a well-structured feeding schedule for your 6-month-old is essential as you navigate the exciting transition to solid foods. This balanced approach will ensure your little one receives the nourishment they need to thrive while also fostering healthy eating habits and a positive mealtime experience.
A thoughtfully designed feeding schedule considers the timing and frequency of meals, portion sizes, and the delicate balance between milk and solid food intake. By tuning in to your baby's feeding cues and adjusting the schedule, you can provide a nurturing and predictable routine that supports their overall growth and development.

Key Considerations for a 6-Month-Old Feeding Schedule:

  • Timing and Frequency of Meals: Aim for 3-4 solid food meals daily, in addition to 4-5 breastfeeding or formula-feeding sessions.
  • Portion Sizes: Start with small portions (2-4 tablespoons) of solid foods, gradually increasing as your baby's appetite grows.
  • Feeding Cues: Observe your baby's hunger and fullness signals to guide the pace and timing of meals.
  • Balancing Milk and Solids: Continue to offer breastmilk or formula as the primary source of nutrition, complementing it with a variety of solid foods.
  • Flexibility and Adjustments: Be prepared to adapt the schedule as your 6-month-old's needs and preferences change over time.

The Transition to Solid Foods – Tips for Parents

  1. Start with Single-Ingredient Foods: To monitor for allergic reactions, begin with one new food at a time, such as pureed fruits, vegetables, or single-grain cereals.
  2. Gradually Increase Texture: Slowly progress from smooth purees to mashed, lumpy, and eventually soft, diced foods to help your baby develop chewing and swallowing skills.
  3. Offer a Variety of Flavors: Expose your baby to a wide range of tastes and textures to encourage a diverse palate and prevent picky eating.
  4. Respect Your Baby's Cues: Listen to your baby's hunger and fullness signals and let them guide the pace and amount of solid food intake.
  5. Encourage Self-Feeding: Provide age-appropriate utensils and finger foods to allow your baby to explore and practice independent feeding.
  6. Maintain a Positive Mealtime Environment: Create a calm, relaxed atmosphere and avoid distractions to foster a healthy relationship with food.
  7. Introduce Allergenic Foods Safely: Under the guidance of your paediatrician, gradually introduce common allergens, such as peanuts, eggs, and seafood.
  8. Stay Patient and Persistent: It may take multiple tries before your baby accepts a new food; continue offering it in a non-pressured way.
  9. Coordinate with Caregivers: Communicate with daycare providers or other caregivers to ensure consistency in the solid food introduction process.
  10. Follow Your Baby's Lead: Every child's transition to solids is unique; be flexible and adjust your approach based on your baby's individual needs and preferences.

Baby Feeding Schedule by Age

Although you will introduce solid food to your baby at six months, it will take a long time for them to completely eat solid food like an adult. Here is a baby feeding schedule by age, which will be your reference from now on.

Baby Feeding Schedule 6 Months to 2 Years

Age (In Months)Daily Solid MealsDetails 6 Months1-2Introduce solids; breast milk or formula remains the primary source of nutrients. Offer first solids after waking or in between milk feeds. 7-8 Months2-3Gradually increase to 2-3 meals as baby gets accustomed to solids. Continue offering breast milk or formula throughout the day. 9-11 Months3Aim for 3 meals of solids per day. You may also have 1-2 snacks in between meals. Breast milk or formula can be offered alongside meals or as a separate feeding. 12-24 Months3Three meals with 2 snacks. Breast milk or formula intake should gradually decrease. By 1 year, milk should be offered as a beverage, not a main source of nutrients. Limit milk consumption to around 16 ounces per day.

Maintaining a Balanced Diet

As your 6-month-old embarks on their solid food journey, it is crucial to ensure that their diet remains well-balanced, providing the necessary variety of nutrients to support their rapid growth and development. This delicate equilibrium requires ongoing adjustments to the feeding schedule and a focus on maintaining adequate hydration levels.
By incorporating diverse nutrient-dense foods into your baby's meals, you can optimise their essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and healthy fats intake. Similarly, being attuned to your 6-month-old's changing needs and adjusting the feeding schedule can help maintain a nourishing and well-rounded diet.

Key Considerations for Maintaining a Balanced Diet:

  1. Nutrient Variety: Offer a wide array of fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and healthy fats to ensure your baby receives a comprehensive nutritional profile.
  2. Developmental Adaptations: Adjust the texture, portion sizes, and frequency of meals as your 6-month-old's feeding skills and appetite evolve.
  3. Hydration Needs: Provide adequate fluids, such as breastmilk, formula, or water, to keep your baby well-hydrated and support their overall health.
  4. Mealtime Flexibility: Be prepared to modify the feeding schedule to accommodate your 6-month-old's changing cues and preferences.
  5. Coordination with Pediatrician: Regularly consult your child's healthcare provider to meet your baby's dietary needs.
Maintaining a balanced, nutrient-rich diet and adapting the feeding schedule can nurture your 6-month-old's growth and development, laying a solid foundation for lifelong health and wellness.
Key Takeaways
  1. The transition to solid foods at 6 months is a significant milestone that marks a profound shift in your baby's feeding journey. This critical window of opportunity allows your 6-month-old to explore new flavours, textures, and feeding experiences, setting the foundation for their future relationship with food and overall well-being.
  2. Establishing a balanced feeding schedule that caters to your 6-month-old's changing nutritional needs is essential to support their optimal growth, cognitive development, and overall health. This involves understanding the unique dietary requirements at this age and implementing a well-structured routine.
  3. Maintaining a balanced, nutrient-rich diet and adapting the feeding schedule are crucial for nurturing your 6-month-old's holistic growth and development. This includes incorporating a variety of essential nutrients, ensuring adequate hydration, and regularly consulting with your paediatrician to meet your baby's evolving needs.
  4. As your little one reaches the 6-month milestone, a profound shift occurs in their feeding journey – from relying solely on liquid nourishment to the wondrous world of solid foods. B12 help
B12 question…have I dropped the ball?
B12 help, have I dropped the ball.
Any help would be appreciated, I have had a b12 deficiency and get regular shots to keep it topped up. I’m starting to feel neurological symptoms again and started wondering just how much b12 I am getting from my daily supplement and if it is enough? I’m only questioning now and yes I am daft as I assumed because the vitamins are from The Vegan society they would be more than adequate…now I am not so sure about this and perhaps I should be looking at another brand and perhaps be taking other stuff too.
I have attached a pic of the dose, I am not good with the math stuff any guidance would be really appreciated and if there are any other supplements you would recommend please send link of product to me.
With peace and love.

2024.05.17 09:01 No_Poet_937 Max dose of L-Methylfolate?

Currently I am at 18.5mg and I feel so much better. Medication and substances work now. My deficiency symptoms lowered a lot! I started with 15mg and it was a game changer but I was extremely fatigued. The increase to 18.5mg plus B12 injections caused my anxiety and extreme fatigue to go away. I still have some level of fatigue and was wondering if I should increase my intake of every vitamin B. Maybe try 25mg of L-Methylfolate.
Any one take 30mg or more?

2024.05.17 08:53 AdFuture8103 Key Ingredients in MenoPhix

Key Ingredients in MenoPhix

The effectiveness of MenoPhix is largely due to its carefully selected ingredients. Black cohosh, for instance, is known for its ability to alleviate hot flashes and night sweats by mimicking estrogen in the body. Red clover contains phytoestrogens that help balance hormone levels. St. John’s wort enhances mood by increasing serotonin levels, while chasteberry helps to regulate hormone production. Valerian root promotes relaxation and better sleep, and calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium support bone health. This powerful combination of ingredients works synergistically to provide comprehensive support for menopausal women. https://menophix.purefet.com/

Using MenoPhix Correctly

For optimal results, it’s important to use MenoPhix correctly. The recommended dosage is typically one to two capsules per day, taken with a meal to improve absorption. Consistency is key; taking MenoPhix daily for at least three to six months can lead to significant improvements in menopausal symptoms. In addition to taking the supplement, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management, can enhance the benefits of MenoPhix.

Potential Side Effects

While MenoPhix is generally considered safe for most women, it’s important to be aware of potential side effects. Some individuals may experience mild gastrointestinal discomfort, such as nausea, diarrhea, or stomach cramps, especially when starting the supplement. These side effects are usually temporary and can be minimized by taking MenoPhix with food. Rarely, allergic reactions may occur, manifesting as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing. If any severe side effects are experienced, it’s crucial to discontinue use and seek medical attention.

Considering Medication Interactions

Certain ingredients in MenoPhix may interact with medications. For example, St. John’s wort can affect the effectiveness of birth control pills, antidepressants, and other medications. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider before starting MenoPhix, especially if you are taking other medications or have existing health conditions. This ensures that MenoPhix is a safe and appropriate choice for your specific health needs. https://menophix.purefet.com/

Hormone-Sensitive Conditions

Women with hormone-sensitive conditions, such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, or endometriosis, should consult their healthcare provider before using MenoPhix. Some ingredients in the supplement, like phytoestrogens from red clover, may influence hormone levels and potentially affect these conditions. A healthcare provider can provide personalized advice and ensure that MenoPhix is safe for your specific situation.

2024.05.17 08:37 sweatpants_on_my_bed 9 months with molluscum, 22F

hey everyone! i have really mentally struggled the last 9 months since i was initially infected. i won’t be holding back at all in the post, because even though this is gross, i really hope it might help someone and even help me to share my story. upon my first outbreak in august 2023, i had to visit 3 different doctors before i actually received a proper diagnosis. first doctor thought it was herpes, second thought it was bad razor burn, and finally the third took me seriously and confirmed that it was neither. 3 full STD panels that all tested urine, blood, and direct swabs were completely negative, which is what finally resulted in my diagnosis of molluscum contagiosum (MC). additionally, i developed and tested positive for awful bacterial vaginosis (BV) upon the time of my infection as well.
my first outbreak was mainly all in the same area, clustered in the fold of my bikini line on my right side. because the area rubbed so much as i walked around, the bumps were basically rubbed raw, which is what i believe caused them to spread. i don’t have any bumps in that area now, but i do now have 3 right by my vulva and one on my anus, all of which have been there pretty much this whole time. i also have one at the bottom of my right butt cheek that is pretty new—appeared maybe a month and a half ago.
my first doctor prescribed me valacyclovir pills, but only 2 weeks worth, and they did not affect the appearance of the bumps at all. he also prescribed me metrinidazole vaginal gel for the BV, which seemed to work initially in at least flushing out the BV infection. however, since my MC infection, i have on and off had BV virtually the entire time, with very strange discharge. the discharge ranges from grayish to neon yellow, is extremely thick, sticky, and clumpy, and it smells not necessarily awful but not healthy if that makes sense. the potency of the smell fluctuates, where some days it has no scent, and other days i can smell it through my pants (can’t believe i’m admitting this online😭). for the BV, i have also tried honeypot brand boric acid capsules that are inserted into the vagina and left overnight. the capsules work to clear the BV temporarily, but it still returns, likely going hand in hand with my molluscum infection. my third doctor that actually diagnosed me provided me with mupirocin ointment to apply to the bumps daily. i was extremely diligent with applying the ointment multiple times daily with clean hands and everything. however, after it did nothing to help for 3 months, i have become more lax with the application, only applying it once a day to no avail.
i will also admit, i have not taken the best care of myself since the initial infection. this last year was my senior year of college, and i have also been working full time and just trying to scrape by. my sleep schedule is non existent especially with some of my shifts only having a 6 hour gap between them, lol. i have felt so ashamed of myself and just hoping the bumps will go away, even though i know that isn’t logical. i have hardly had time to devote to treatment anyway, with my most recent doctors appointment being in november. i definitely entered a state of denial for a while as well where i almost forgot i had the bumps.
now that i have graduated college, i know that i can’t allow myself to live like this anymore. i have read many of the posts in this thread and am so inspired by everyone’s patience and risillience with dealing with this. as a first step, i have started women’s multivitamin supplements to ensure that i am getting 100% of my daily value of vitamin C, zinc, and etc to hopefully help my immune system. i also now have a gynecologist appointment scheduled for this monday, may 17th, to final face my fears and address this again. i plan to update following the appointment, of course.
in addition to just wanting to share my story, i would also like to ask if anyone reading this has advice for treatment strategies and for talking to my doctor. i want to be as thorough as possible with my appointment, because as someone with a bit of ✨ trauma ✨, it is really mentally taxing for me to keep having to show doctor after doctor my vagina. if anyone knows of specific treatment options i should ask about, i would love to hear it. also, if anyone knows about a correlation between MC and BV, i would be really interested to hear about that as well.
thank you so much you guys. to anyone who is struggling with this, you are not alone. you deserve to get better and you WILL get better💛

2024.05.17 08:22 Unusual_Project_9006 Getting Tested Again But Been On Supplements - Not Very Hopeful of Answers

Vegetarian since my teens and didn't know a thing about B12 until a doctor in my twenties said I was b12 deficient. She administered some B12 shots. I honestly can't remember if it was even more than two or what happened afterwards but I remember they helped me. I think she probably retested my levels and saw they were good and told me to supplement from them on (she was the most helpful doctor I've ever had and lovely and she was going on what they thought at the time about test levels being able to show accurate b12).
I've been on b supplements most of the time since, although again not really being mindful of how important they were until my late twenties. I suspect I did suffer nerve damage in the time before I realised about b vitamins. I started just taking B12 supplements cause I think that's what the doctor recommended or what I figured I needed. My memory is terrible so there's a lot of gaps and blanks in my years. I stayed on B12 1000mcg a day for quite a while.
Then I came off vitamins when I was going through a rough anxiety time after srri withdrawal. I was wary of anything making my anxiety worse (lots of chest pain from anxiety and very restless, plus chronic insomnia leading to sleep deprivation). I can't remember how long I was off them for.
I went back on them at some point, a b complex rather than just B12 and when I read about how oral supplementation may not actually be enough to help B12 deficiency and also how the tests weren't accurate if supplementing I talked to two different doctors about that when asking to get things checked (still trying to fix anxiety) and both just ignored that completely and said yep normal when my tests came back.
I hopped off vitamins again because my depression got very bad and I gave up on a lot. I finally went back on them properly about 8 months ago, and I noticed my go to vitamin complex changed its formula to add activated B12 when before it was only cobalamin. There's only a tiny bit in the vitamins, 100mcg of methyl cobalamin and 50mcg of cobalamin. I know that's not much compared to what people should take, especially since I don't eat meat, but the formula has really helped, possibly also due to the b6 and tiny bits of zinc because I think I'm likely quiet deficient in those too.
I think I have more has been effecting my b12 levels over the years, gastrointestinal issues that the srris made a lot lot worse and maybe absorption issues.
I stopped my b vitamins tablets about twelve days ago because I'm due to get my thyroid tested and there's biotin in the b complex which I know effects thyroid testing. I didn't get to the doctor because of other things happening but don't want to start the B's again till I do so am staying off them.
But my depression and anxiety is taking a turn down again so I know the B's must be helping when I do take them (I know neurotransmitters need them). I had some of my 1000mcg B12 left so I took one of those last weekend to help since it doesn't have biotin and was thinking that was going to cause anxiety but the opposite happened and my anxiety and depression went down and energy felt good rather than restless, really surprised me because I didn't think that was going to happen. Then I remembered the b12 test thing and didn't take anymore and haven't since.
I doubt I'll get my test done for at least several more days due to being stuck with other things. I guess my question was to ask if that will help the tests show a more accurate level of my natural baseline for b or not really because that still won't be enough time off them? I don't want to start back again just in case I can get in to the doctors sooner and I want the thyroid test to be as accurate as possible. But being off them my thinking is much more muddled and hard to focus, making simple mistakes and panic gets to me easier. Having more aches and pains and cold limbs too.

2024.05.17 07:14 tab_rick What is the Best Kitchen Island Countertop?

What is the Best Kitchen Island Countertop?
The kitchen island countertop is more than a functional surface; in modern homes, it stands as the heart of the kitchen. With a plethora of materials available, from granite and quartz to laminate and solid surface, selecting the ideal one can be challenging. Let’s explore the best options.

What Makes a Kitchen Island Countertop Great?

When considering a countertop, aesthetics alone won’t suffice. An outstanding kitchen island countertop combines durability, low maintenance, visual allure, and versatility. Let’s delve into these criteria further.

Good Durability

Durability is a critical attribute for countertops. Envision accidental wine spills or the impact of dropping heavy utensils. Materials like granite, quartz, solid surface and stainless steel are designed to resist such challenges, making them preferred choices for many homeowners. On the other hand, hardwood and butcher block, while also durable, provide a warmer aesthetic compared to the sleek appearance of stainless steel. For households with high activity or children, a strong yet aesthetically pleasing countertop is crucial.

Easy Maintenance

Maintaining a pristine countertop shouldn’t require excessive time and effort. Prioritizing easy maintenance is essential. For example, solid surface countertops are non-porous, offering stain resistance. A swift cleaning suffices for its upkeep. Laminate is another user-friendly choice, though it may not match the durability of quartz. While stainless steel is effortless to clean, it might display fingerprints and scratches. It’s crucial to consider the advantages and disadvantages of each material.

Visual Appeal

The kitchen often stands as the centerpiece of a home, demanding both aesthetic and functional considerations. Granite countertops, renowned for their distinctive patterns and shades, add a touch of visual allure. For those with a penchant for a modern and minimalist design, solid surface countertops are a fitting choice. Marble countertops, with their unique veining, exude an artistic elegance. Yet, while aesthetics play a role, it’s imperative to ensure that functionality isn’t compromised in the pursuit of beauty.

Multitasking

A versatile kitchen island countertop provides notable benefits, especially in smaller kitchens with limited space. For example, a butcher block countertop functions both as a working area and an integrated chopping board. Moreover, countertops with integrated charging stations or storage features elevate their functionality and efficiency.

Solid Surface Countertop

Solid surface countertops offer design versatility, adeptly mimicking the aesthetics of natural stone, wood, or various other materials. Comprised primarily of natural minerals fused with high-quality resins, these countertops are gaining popularity among homeowners and design professionals alike.
Examining the composition in detail, the predominant component in solid surface countertops is aluminum powder. This powder is a precise blend of 15+25+75, leading to a high-density, non-porous surface with minimal water absorption. The texture is smooth to the touch. Additionally, the incorporation of isophthalic resin guarantees the countertop exhibits an exceptional texture, augmented hardness, and increased resistance to discoloration and environmental pollutants. In simpler terms, its quality and performance are outstanding.

Characteristics of Solid Surface Countertop

Solid surface kitchen countertops have garnered attention in recent times. But what sets them apart? Let’s delve into their key features.
  • Easy to Maintain and Clean: Solid surface countertops stand out for their simplicity in upkeep. Any inadvertent spills, whether coffee or red wine, can be swiftly wiped away using a damp cloth. Their non-porous quality ensures they resist staining, sidestepping the persistent marks often seen with alternative countertop materials.
  • Smooth and Uniform Look: Solid surface countertops cater to those seeking a harmonious and uninterrupted appearance. Unlike natural stones like granite or marble, which may display variations, these countertops offer a uniform look. Such consistency aligns well with homeowners desiring a contemporary and polished kitchen aesthetic.
  • Unique Appearance: The design patterns of solid surface countertops stand out because of their uniqueness, our solid surface sheet can also be made into a unique pattern plate. Carefully crafted by experienced masters, the lines are smooth and delicate, beautiful and generous. In addition to their visual appeal, the patterns capture the rich color and luster of marble, looking like marble countertops but feeling softer and more refined.
  • Absolutely Free from Formaldehyde and Odor: Our solid surface countertops are crafted from materials devoid of harmful radiation and formaldehyde emissions, promising a safe haven for prolonged usage. The inherent odorless nature further enhances your living space, promising a fresh and healthy environment at all times.
  • Antibacterial, Mold-Resistant, and Designed to Repel Moisture: Experience the hygienic brilliance of non-porous countertops that stand tall against bacteria, mold, and mildew, refusing to offer a habitat for their growth. Their suitability extends especially to kitchens and bathrooms, spaces known for moisture retention, offering a surface that is not just easy to clean but promises sustained hygiene.
  • Exceptional Durability: One of the defining characteristics of solid surface countertops is their robustness. Crafted to withstand daily wear and tear, they maintain their luster even with frequent use. Whether faced with hot kitchenware or routine tasks, these countertops prove resilient.
  • Diverse and Customizable Designs: Solid surface countertops impress with their wide array of styles. Whether you’re inclined towards a minimalist approach or detailed patterns, there’s a design tailored for you. Additionally, the customization scope is broad, encompassing integrated sinks to unique edge designs, expanding the design horizons.
The growing preference for solid surface countertops is rooted in their maintenance ease, visual charm, lasting durability, and adaptability in design. They truly present a blend of attributes that’s compelling to consider.

Granite Countertop

Granite countertops epitomize a blend of sophistication and resilience. Recognized for its aesthetic allure and practical advantages, granite has long been a preferred choice for discerning homeowners. Let’s explore the attributes that position granite as a premium countertop material.
What gives granite its distinct properties? Granite is an igneous rock, formed from cooled molten lava. This implies that your countertop might have originated from volcanic activity. Its primary constituents are quartz, feldspar, and mica, which contribute to its speckled appearance. The minerals present in granite provide a spectrum of colors, ranging from earthy browns and muted pinks to profound blacks and radiant whites.

Characteristics of Granite Countertops

  • Unique Patterns and Colors: Granite stands out for its unparalleled individuality. Each slab is distinct, ensuring that your kitchen island countertop is truly unique. The vast array of colors and designs provides ample opportunities for tailored preferences.
  • Long-Lasting: Granite is renowned for its durability. With appropriate maintenance, including periodic sealing, a granite countertop can serve for decades, proving to be a long-term investment.
  • Heat and Stain Resilience: Kitchens are prone to spills and high temperatures. Granite’s heat-resistant nature allows for direct placement of hot cookware without causing harm. When sealed correctly, it also resists stains, facilitating easy cleaning.
In summary, granite offers more than aesthetic appeal; it’s a blend of beauty and practicality. Regardless of your culinary expertise, a granite countertop remains a dependable and elegant option for your kitchen island.

Marble Countertop

Marble epitomizes luxury and refinement. Commonly linked with magnificence, marble countertops elevate the sophistication of any kitchen. But what attributes make marble stand out as a choice for kitchen island countertops? Marble is a metamorphic rock, evolved from limestone. Under specific heat and pressure conditions, it transforms into the distinguished stone recognized as marble. Its signature veining arises from impurities like clay, silt, and sand present during its formation.

Characteristics of Marble Countertops

  • Distinctive Veining: Marble’s hallmark is its distinctive veining, a natural masterpiece where each slab narrates a singular tale. This ensures that your kitchen island countertop transcends functionality to become a focal point of conversation.
  • Heat Resistant: Marble naturally remains cool even in elevated temperatures, providing an ideal surface for tasks such as rolling out dough. While it is resistant to heat, utilizing trivets is recommended to prevent potential damage to the surface.
  • Porous and Delicate: While marble’s porous nature renders it somewhat delicate, necessitating regular sealing to maintain its immaculate appearance, this characteristic also lends it a refined and elegant aesthetic. Ensuring prompt cleanup of spills will aid in preserving its pristine condition.

Quartz Countertop

In the dynamic realm of kitchen design, quartz countertops stand out as a preferred choice for both homeowners and designers. What makes quartz so captivating? Let’s delve into the unique characteristics of this exceptional material.
Quartz, at its essence, is a prevalent natural mineral. However, when discussing quartz countertops, we’re addressing an engineered stone. This signifies that while it’s produced, it’s not wholly synthetic. The creation involves pulverizing natural quartz crystals into a refined powder, which is then amalgamated with other minerals and resins. A standard quartz countertop is composed of approximately 90% quartz and 10% resins, polymers, and colorants. This distinct blend yields a material that combines the aesthetics of natural stone with features unattainable by pure natural stones.
Thanks to the manufacturing technique, there’s an expansive array of colors and designs available. This adaptability is a pivotal reason for quartz’s rising popularity in kitchen countertops.

Characteristics of Quartz Countertop

  • Wide Designs: Engineered quartz stands out for its adaptability and range of aesthetic options. Whether you desire a countertop that embodies the sophistication of marble without the upkeep, or you prefer a modern, striking design adorned with metallic specks, quartz meets your needs. Its wide variety of designs and hues guarantees a match for every preference and kitchen motif.
  • Easy to Clean and Maintain: Kitchens are prone to spills and stains, but with quartz countertops, clean-up is a breeze. Its non-porous surface resists staining, safeguarding against the likes of coffee spills or beetroot splashes. A quick wipe with a damp cloth restores its pristine condition, eliminating the need for frequent sealing or specialized cleaning solutions.
  • High Durability: Quartz countertops are synonymous with endurance, resisting scratches, chips, and cracks effectively. Their hard-wearing nature makes them ideal for bustling kitchen environments, capable of withstanding daily culinary endeavors whether you are a beginner or a proficient chef.
  • Consistent Appearance: In contrast to natural stones, which may exhibit variations in shade and pattern even within a single slab, quartz presents a uniform facade. This attribute is vital when utilizing multiple slabs for a project, facilitating a harmonious and uninterrupted visual flow.

Stainless Steel Countertop

Stainless steel countertops, once predominantly seen in commercial kitchens, are now gaining popularity in residential settings. Their appeal? A combination of a sleek, contemporary look and a host of functional advantages tailored for active kitchens.
Stainless steel owes its “stainless” characteristic to its chromium composition. This element creates a protective layer on the surface, granting resistance against rust and everyday stains—a crucial feature in a space where spills are commonplace. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, stainless steel stands out for its remarkable durability. It can endure high temperatures and resist scratches, positioning it as a robust and almost unbeatable choice for kitchen surfaces.

Characteristics of Stainless Steel Countertops

  • Stain Resistance: A notable advantage of stainless steel is its ability to resist stains. Common kitchen spills like coffee, wine, or juice can be effortlessly cleaned up, making it invaluable in a bustling kitchen environment.
  • Easy to Clean: Maintaining stainless steel’s shine is simple—just a swift swipe with a moist cloth does the trick. There’s no demand for special cleaners or polishes, making it a top pick for those who value hassle-free care.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Stainless steel robustly defends against corrosion, ensuring common household chemicals and substances don’t harm it. Its durability makes it a go-to for experimental chefs.
  • Sleek Aesthetic: For enthusiasts of a modern or industrial look, stainless steel is the way to go. Its lustrous finish and sleek design add a touch of sophistication to any kitchen environment.
  • Hygienic: Stainless steel’s non-porous nature guarantees a sanitary surface, providing minimal hiding spots for germs and pathogens.
In summary, if you’re in the market for a countertop material that marries aesthetic charm with functional advantages, stainless steel is a commendable option. Its durability, simple care, and modern aesthetic render it a fitting choice for today’s kitchens.

Porcelain Countertop

Porcelain, traditionally linked with elegant tea sets and intricate vases, has now gracefully transitioned into the realm of kitchen island countertops. Its allure isn’t solely based on its aesthetic charm. Porcelain countertops combine both visual elegance and practical advantages, setting them apart from many other materials.
Porcelain is a specialized ceramic, fired at exceptionally high temperatures to attain its robustness and longevity. Crafted from natural elements such as clay, feldspar, and quartz, these components are meticulously pulverized and then fused. The outcome is a compact, resilient material that stands up well against scratches, stains, and high temperatures.

Characteristics of Porcelain Countertops

  • Lightweight and Easy to Install: Porcelain has a knack for being light, making it a breeze to install compared to the heavyweights like granite or quartz.
  • Easy to Maintain: Thanks to its non-porous nature, porcelain doesn’t soak up liquids or become a breeding ground for bacteria. A swift swipe with a wet cloth is all it usually needs.
  • Appealing Appearance: Porcelain has this modern, chic vibe. Plus, it’s available in so many colors and designs, letting homeowners get just the right look for their kitchen island tops.
  • Robust Durability: Don’t let its elegant appearance fool you; porcelain can take a beating. It’s great at fending off scratches, chips, and the harsh sun, ensuring it stays beautiful for years.
  • Heat and UV Resistance: For those who love to cook, porcelain is a dream. You can place hot pots right on it without a worry. And if it’s under the sun? No problem. It won’t fade, thanks to its UV resistance.
When it comes to kitchen island tops, porcelain is making waves. Its blend of good looks and rugged strength makes it a top pick for homeowners wanting the best of both worlds.

2024.05.17 06:59 Playful-Bass-1492 [Sun Care] Heavily darkened skin from working outdoors... do I start with AHA products or retinol to start the healing process?

I work outside and it took me awhile to find the right sunscreen which I currently use right now. But even when reapplying every 1.5-2hrs and I've got a wide brim helmet on, my face and neck still darkens. Rarely does my skin ever hit direct sunlight.
So I've bought a st ives exfoliator which I've been using for a few months and havent really noticed much of a difference.... skin does feel clean though when I use it once a week normally on Friday or Saturday. I also stopped moisturizing my face after exfoliating or using a facial cleanser because it makes it look greasy and feel clogged.
So I've done some research on this and am also trying Truskin Vitamin C serum. Its only been a day, but so far no allergic reactions after test patching.
But now I'm also reading that I need to incorporate AHA/BHA products or retinol. I see Alpha skin care and Cerave are the recommended products. So which one do I go with first for heavily darkened skin? I also dont have much of a skincare routine either.... I just wash my face with cold water in the morning then apply sunscreen and evenings I use a clean and clear face wash. I exfoliate my face once a week.... but now I'm thinking of getting rid of that because I'm now using a vit c serum in the evenings.
