2024.06.01 14:31 Potential-Lack-5185 Fan-Wars in the SUB. And are people wrong to extra-support their POC faves?

Edit: The downvotes have begun but hopefully that means people are reading till the end too. Will have to try the BridgertonRants sub as that seems more accepting of discussions and debates. : )
Would super appreciate it if everyone reads this long-ass thesis of a post with an open mind and to the end...its me being vulnerable in an anonymous reddit sub because i think these things matter in the larger framework of a uniquely special show and the big, bright, beautiful, multicultural gorgeous world we all as humans live in. My last post in this sub was downvoted to hell which btw totally ok...and i dont depend on reddit currency for my livelihood so its all good. I just care about my posts being read...specially this one.
Some context:
I'm very new to this community and reddit as well. Currently have time off work and going ham on reddit and venturing very scared into the deep dark of world of rabid fandoms and small niche communities. Getting a little burnt along the way but also learning from some super talented fans with their own eye-opening ideas and funny posts. Fans of all kinds, Im peeping into profiles, so white, black, brown multicolored rainbow of the world right here.
I'm also an aspiring writer and well...some of my best ideas have come from reddit lurking on cool and active subs with bridgerton sub being new for me. Jet lagged, anxious and just a tad bit antsy, I'm trying to go down and deep and maybe open some deeper discussions here.
I am Indian and lived primarily in India my whole life and now for the last 10 years between London and Canada (why am I sharing all this like and am I also going to tell you my weight, my height etc too...No but hopefully you'll understand this revelation as you read ahead without me spelling it out)
So I've been trying to figure out why fan wars as they pertain to this show prick so personally, so particularly.
I think fandoms anywhere in every country are full of insane people, obsessive chronically online people who find comfort through living through their faves..your beyonce stans, your rihanna stans, your Taylor Swift stans, your harry styles stans, your k pop stans, etc etc..
This show also has some rabid fans..But there is a conversation I want to open up only because I think it's important...Is fighting extra hard for your poc fave because you know their representation in pop culture is limited, their getting jobs is limited, subconscious biases exist even though we have been making great strides and even eradicated overt biases in employment, in accessibility, in government service etc etc ..and their culture not as dominant, their worlds not as seen or coveted.
Our ideas of beauty are framed by the extensiveness and longevity of colonial rule across the world.
there are shit people across all ethnicities religions and genders and nationalities. Barbarians, conquerors, invaders, pillaging villages raping women destroying livelihoods suppressing the peasant class, mutilating and diluting cultures- exist in Africa, the Indian subcontinent, East asia, middle East etc so not just Britain. Basically being brown, black or East Asian and Middle Eastern doesnt grant you moral superiority over white people and you can be racist and casteist and colorist and bigoted and biased and just all around shitty and criminal as a black, brown, east asian middle eastern etc etc person just as much as white people.
So now that thats settled, lets look at specific issues that POC only face because that eventually streams into the show and its politics and its discussion as well.
But for whatever reason ...the British were able to colonize on a scale that the other countries and ethnicities were not able to.. African and the Indian subcontinent's conquests and invasions were limited in area and time period...their scale of conquest limited to a small radius around their own countries...and not foreign lands travelled via sea etc.
As a result and only as a result and not because and I cannot emphasize enough that black, brown or east asian invaders, rulers etc were morally superior, kinder, less assholes...the culture that became dominant was white british culture..or european culture...if Indians had conquered the world, they would have imposed their culture on the lands and countries they invaded, if different African countries invaded the world to the extent of the british colonists, same thing...the dominant culture that would have been forcibly imposed by the people of african ethnicity would be their culture... Black skin would have been considered beautiful, white fair skin would not have been the standard....thats history....thats something we know to be true even through modern wars...the victor dictates...But that simply didnt happen.
it's not because t Africans or Asians or basically non white people are morally superior, more virtuous, incapable of terrorist acts or colonizing or I don't know were like we don't invade and conquest, we so good. But because that's history. They just didn't manage it. thats simply our current historical reality.
Being that the country or countries that did manage to conquer the world or close to 9/10ths of it were Europeans or more specifically British white nationals..which means as would happen even if another nationality had managed to invade the world, the culture that is dominant across the world is a west/white slanted world..
Colorism as a concept didnt exist until colonization: Why would it? If everyone existed under the same harsh sun, had the same skin color with minor variances...why would they think fair is more beautiful. Its because they wouldnt...the first blond haired blue eyed people would have been introduced to India via early traders of east india company in India and dutch colonists before them...Its like if everyone around you is brown, you assume thats just how everyone else looks like...thats the only reality you know...you simply havent seen anyone look any different..you havent seen blue eyes or anything else....same for africans and within that framework as humans are wont to do you create ideas of beauty.
So yes. POCs across the globe had just as arbitrary ideas of beauty as white people (chiense mutilated young women feet cuz small feet more beautiful, in africa genital mutiliation) because humans are humans and humans mess everything up...and animals are so much better...but color as a construct is a colonial one and one which managed to find deeep deep roots because of the extent of the rule, the sheer longevity, For context, India has been independent for the last 75 years..from over 200 years of colonial british rule...Not even the length of the life of a single human. Not even as long as Britains former queen was alive. It will take some more time for that in fighting and ideas of colorism deeply penetrated from the inheritance of our rulers to get dismanted...and totally thrown own...because you can freee from literall bondage more easily, the mind takes longer to adjust and form independent thought. But it will happen.
White people are not more or less racist than POC. Thats not a thing. There are shit people and you can find shit people anywhere...I have shit people right in my own home country, bigots, destroying the diversity of India by bullshit tactics...
But as it stands...because this cultural superiority of British and white people took over, the framing of beauty, of whats fashionable, of whats cool, of whats civilized is all seen through the lens of white culture...eating with hands which many cultures across the world do uncivilized unhygienic, paris fashions and made in italy...mark of excellence...made in India and China...cheap, low quality, scammers and shit people, (thats not to say shit people and scammers dont exist in India and China and there arent industries of scammers across these poorer nations but there is also denying the equisite craftasmanship across fashion and beauty in both countries-China and India.
Brown skin bad, even darker skin even bad etc etc...We wear clothes that our colonial masters did across the world, you wont find people in china wearing Chinese clothes, same for India, african countries etc...everything from clothing, to beauty, to furniture, to houses everything indigenous was changed to a foreign ideal from our rulers. The same would have happened whoever whichever ethnicity had invaded the world...like i said above..
Now and thanks for reading whoever read till here and I hope a lot of people did-on to to the show...
There is this frequent refrain and accusation of oppression olympics that I read about when it comes to this show, in general online discourse and also this insanely disgusting article fat shaming Nicola Coughlan in The Spectator.
And i really really want to open up this conversation...cuz race gets discussed a lot on this sub and other bridgerton subs and therefore a perfect place to have that conversation...Do Non-POC really believe in the concept of oppression olympics and that all kinds of biases are equally treacherous to navigate?
So I was overweight in my teens...I had a close friend who was wheelchair bound. my life was hard and I was bullied but surely surely I do not think that my plight was the same as my friend in a wheelchair...In class 10th, a close friend's father passed away, the same year my grandmother passed away, surely, surely, I dont think we are experiencing the same pain the same setback to our life...Class 10th in India is akin to A levels in Britain and SAT in the USA..
You know why I didnt think any of this and why if I had i was wrong, because there is a hierarchy to opression, .to loss, to struggles. There simply is. Opression Olympics is rooted in reality.
Pain is pain, loss and bad foundations suck ass...but privilege is a thing and some pains some loads just lighter compared to others. I could lose weight and get over the oppression I was facing because of my weight in school. My wheelchair bound friend didnt have that option..I wouldnt get my grandmother back...but my fathers loss would have a more immediate affect on my life and my friend who lost her father and her loss was just simply deeper. She needed more support, more help, more people crowding around her saying you've got this Niharika..well make sure your life doesnt change permanently cuz youlve lost your dad.
So when show fandom compare Jonathon Baileys struggle to Rege Jean George or say Victor Ali, they are simply pointing out that yes while Jonathon Bailey is gay...there is a difference between being white and gay and being black and gay or simply harder being black. And therefore there is a hierarchy. Why POC are less loath to crticize the average acting of their POC faves because they know the opportunities for them are limited. Lets do an exercise name 5 shows led by a POC in the USA or Britain or Canada-any POC..brown, black i dont care. And im not talking about black or brown actors in a show or film, im talking leads...
Also biases are self perpetuating....When black or brown led films fail, the opportunities immediately dry up because it shows that its just fairness and the numbers dont lie..Except this is not maths.....Maths would be first making equal amount of shows starring black or brown people, and then comparing...Now if the end result is white led shows do better-that would be correct math...but ratios and comparisons and statistics need to first start with an even scale...thats not even me taking about diversity...thats just math formulas...
If lets say there are 500 actors who are white in hollywood and 200 who are Black in hollywood, and lets say all 200 black actors are shit...would you say the statement...god white actors are so much better than black actors...no cuz the maths is not adding up...you compared 500 actors who were white of which 300 were excellent 200 bad and you made that into the conclusion that white actors are better because you were comparing only with 200 black actors to begin with...the actual math formula yieled equal number of bad and good actors..
Why people defend Kanthony harder...or wanted Simone Ashley to be promoted as much as Polin is because (lets go with my Math analogy again) all things being the same) unless Nicola and Luke are really bad actors compared to Simone Ashley, theyll still have it easier in acting...they simply will. they wont have to change their confusingly, long foreign sounding name, they wont have to work at assimilation in other ways, lets say they were muslim they wouldnt have been trying hard to sell themselves as Im just as liberal as you, im not a threat. And I love Luke Newton and Nicola Coughland-both seem like throughly, likable, personable, kind hearted beans..
Now my own experience. I have stated in an earlier post on this sub that I'm a Shonda Rhimes fan...because I have personally benefitted from the diversity she has included so naturally, so elegantly in all her shows. My own ideas of beauty, have been tested and transformed. In fact I know exactly the moment it happened...watching Christina Yang as a 14 year old...and thinking god meredith is so beautiful and I want to see more of HER and Izzie but then seeing christina again and again and again over each episode over hundreds of hours of binging, school, college, masters, big move outside India, my own constant this show..my brain was soft mushy and impressionable and christina yang, korean Sandra Oh became suddenly but actually slowly and then all at once became beautiful to me...I dont know when it happened but like the book Colin telling Penelope I dont know when or how and why others dont see it but you ARE beautiful in the book carriage scene. I found her hot, I found her cool. I cared to learn more about her Korean mother and her Jewish father and it didnt matter that the show never covered that culture..Christina was atheist and could handle her shit..even around racists.. But I still wanted to learn more about HER..a woman I simply didnt think was beautiful comparable to meredith and Izzie..me an impressionable 14 year old..just made that turn because of a show.,..a fluffy...not that deep soapy as hell show.
But it was only possible cuz I saw 24 episodes day in day out,...over many many years....for that to happen. I had many more years of falling asleep to dawsons creek joey and dawson, joey and pacey, gilmore girls rory and jess rory and dean rory and logan..i imagined and dreamt of windswept Mr. Darcy...and of course I luckily had my own countrys pop culture cuz I grew up and lived in a country where I was repped plenty eveywhere... So i found bollwood heroes hot and I found White americans or british people hot...my brain simply didnt have a framework for East Asians hot. And I needed to seem them constantly and frequentlyn and in Hot front and center, desirable covetable-their culture, their families all respected, admired again and again and again over many years for that switch to happen.
So why do we fight for our POV faves.. fight hard (some fight really ugly too which....they are not my people ( as in I dont know them) so sorry for that)....because we know how much more repping they need...we know how much MORE MORE MORE important it is to see POC culture done right...because it simply is not accessible,...cannot be to people outside..
K POP is making waves super..., people love themselves some MANGA and kimchi...so good and progress...but a lot of countries pop culture is in the native tongue...people outside of it cannot access it...in the same way one would English language content-books, podcasts, news, films, shows etc etc. And hollywood does our culture wrong, played up for laughs, stinky curry, stinky indians, scamming Indians, uncivilized heathens, oh so funny that Sofia Vergara and her funny accent (The Ellen Show), niche shows that dont become popular behemoths because it stars all ethnic casts-Fresh Off the Boat.
You simply will not understand how brilliant and gorgeous my country's embroideries, temple art, clothing and fashion, actors and sculptors, museums and writing and authors are...not because YOU are racist..but because you dont speak-my language and my culture isnt dominant or wide spread enough-insert again-my above explanation of colonialism and dominant and suppressed cultures. History made one culture the most widespread...again not because white people, bad and racist...brown and black people good and not racist and benevolent..but they simply were the victors...for centuries...plural.
We want to fight harder for Rege and defend him leaving the show (im not even black but when you live outside of your home country, all POC seem like a united underrepresented group and you find kinship everywhere) because any potential cancellation or quote unquote unlikeability and hes difficult accusations would hurt him far far more than Nicola Coughlan, Luke Thompson, Newton, Phoebe etc. for the same crimes. And there just arent enough of us to begin with to lose even one. For what is quite honestly a mid Netflix show with seeds of promise but a lack of ambition.

2024.06.01 13:59 Cute-Employment9532 Solid Opticians?

I have some frames that I’d like to use for my new prescription. I’m looking for high end lenses and my local shop (Luxury Eyesight in the West Loop) quoted me a price of $613.50 (including tax). That’s a bit too pricey for me.
Anyone have tips for filling prescriptions in Chicago?
Happy June Y’all!!!

2024.06.01 13:15 thatoneguy79134 Splinter- 3rd darkness subclass fanconcept

Splinter is inspired by the slicing and mirror powers that the witness uses during the lightfall and tfs trailer. This is basically just a fun idea as to what a 'witness subclass' would look like.
Visuals: The splinter subclass would have its designs consist of broken glass and reflecting mirrors. Its energy would be a pale red with bright white streaks. Enemies killed by a splinter debuff would have look as if they were sliced into red segments before disappearing. Lore: If stasis is control and strand is going with the flow, splinter is ignorance. Rather than controlling or flowing with the universe, you have to actively deny its rules to use splinter. The witness carved a hole in the traveller by ignoring the strength of its shell.
GAMEPLAY:
Verbs:
Cut - enemys hit by cut take a small amount of damage and are given one stack of cut. If they receive 100 stacks, they will be hit by dismantle.
Visual: Cut would look like a small red slice going across the enemy's body
Dismantle - when an enemy is 'dismantled' they will receive a moderate amount of damage over the course of 1.5 seconds. Other enemies hit by dismantle will be given a varying amount of cut stacks, depending for how long they were in the aoe. Cut and dismantle would be your bread and butter for general ad clear. Dismantle would also stun overloads.
Visual: Where cut is one single slice, dismantle is a flurry of these slices going across the inflicted targets body, as if they're being diced.
Displacement - enemies affected by displacement are initially slowed by 60%, before going back to normal speed over the course of 3 seconds. Projectiles slowed by displacement are permanently slowed by 50%, and their damage decreased by 15%.
In pvp: Displacement would slow players by 30% and gradually return them to normal over 3 seconds.
Visual: Normal enemies that have been displaced would look like segment of their body have been cut offer and separated. These pieces eventually fuse back together as the slow effect decreases. Boss enemies would simply have a red hue to show they have been affected by displacement.
Rend - A high power single tick of damage in a small radius. This would be more helpful for taking care of healthier targets quickly. Hitting a barrier champion while they are shielded stuns them.
Visual: Rend would appear like a gash in the air, as if the universe itself was cut open. This gash would stay for half a second after a rend attack. This gash would look similar to the portals made by vergil in dmc5 (although more red instead of blue)
Guard points (splinter's main gimmick) When using a splinter powered melee, the first 0.3 seconds of the attack while have a guard point. If an enemy hits while the guard point is up, you will receive 60% reduced damage and be immune to one shots. It will also boost the damage of the melee by 50%. Projectiles will also proc the guard point depending on the overall damage of the projectile. Enemies hit by a guard point empowered melee are briefly flinched.
Visual/audio: When in the 'guard point stance' your guardian will radiate red splinter energy with white streaks. When hitting the guard point, the white streaks will turn black and make it resemble an impact frame.
The audio and animation of the melee would also change to make the attack feel more impactful.
Reflective plating - while reflectjve plating is active, gain 20% dr and empower your guard points to be more effective. Guard points with reflecting plate now active in the first 0.7 seconds of the melee rather 0.3, and will increase the damage resistance to 90%. Lastly, projectiles that hit the guardian while guard point is active will reflect back to the enemy (although for reduced damage)
In pvp: The only difference with pvp is that your head hit box will not be immune to one shots.
Visual: Reflective plating will look similar to guard point, the energy will just be much less intense.
Rupert drop (probably not what it would be in game but bubbles already taken) - Rupert drops are the splinter subclass pickups (even though you don't actually pick them up). Rupert drops are a hybrid between stasis crystals and tangles. They can be for either cover or they can be shot to pop into a small cutting explosion. When shot by their creator or allies, rupert drops will move away from where they were hit, the bigger tha damage, the faster it moves. Ruperts drop would have a 15 second cool down and be generated by killing enemies with rend.
Visual: Rupert drops would look like giant bubbles roughly the size of a guardian. when taking damage, they slow crystallize before exploding into shards of glass.
When spawning in. The rupert's drop would look as if its slowly being formed by pieces of glass coming out of the gash made by the rend.
Grenades:
Shred grenade - explodes on impact to create a moderately sized explosion (slightly larger than a scatter grenade) that would deal a total of 110 stack of cut over the course of 0.75 seconds.
Cleave grenade - sticks to target before exploding into a small radius rend attack.
Dispersing grenade - explodes into a field of displacement that slowly implodes to create a small displacement explosion. The initial field would act similarly to a dusk field grenade, while the implosion would be similar to a snare bomb in damage.
Subclasses:
Each of the subclasses would mirror the arc subclasses in a way, Since splinter would be the darkness antithesis to arc (like solastasis, void/strand)
Ronin - hunter subclass Where arcstriders use their hand to hand prowess and expertise with the pole arm, Ronin use their skill with the blade to fell even the largest of does with a single slash.
Ronins are inspired primarily by heroes from old samurai movies. Wandering swordsman who could defeat armies with nothing but their trusted sword.
The gameplay fantasy of ronin would consist of well timed guard points and high power single target damage using rending attacks. The subclass would have a higher skill ceiling than most, rewarding knowledge of enemy attack patterns with high damage attacks.
Melee - Unsheathing strike (2 charges) Striking enemies with your katana inflicts them with 30 stacks of cut. Standing still before attacking will increase the damage of the strike by 15%. When empowered by a guard point, the strike will deal 60 stacks of cut in a large radius.
Visual: The splinter katana's is made up of various uneven panes of broken glass. When empowered, the katana's blade goes from red and white to pure black.
Super - shimmering blade (roaming/one off) The Ronin unsheathes their blade when beginning the super. While in super, there are 2 attacks. Light attack - fast slashes that each deal 40 stacks of cut. Heavy attack - quickly sheathe the blade and become immobile. Releasing the attack button has the Ronin slash the air and rend every enemy in a large radius. This attack ends the super immediately.
Holding the attack for a longer period of time increases the damage of the rends, fully maxxing out at an 80% boost.
During the release of the attack, a guard point is active for 0.3 seconds (0.7 when reflective plating is active). Hitting the guard point immediately increases the attack damage to 80%, while also further boosting the range and damage by 15%.
Aspect 1 - crossguard slash After a successful guard point, follow up with a second slash that rends the opponent. Killing an enemy with slash regenerates 50% of your melee charge.
Aspect 2 - quickdraw sheathe Gives hunter a guard point during initial activation. Successful guard points now boost class a ability regeneration by 150% for 4 seconds.
Blastmarine - Titan subclass Blastmarines mirror arc strikers as both are 'soldier' subclasses. Where strikers are frontline fighters, blastmarines are the 'heavy artillery' weapons experts of their fireteam.
Where ronin are calm, collected samurai, Blast marines are loud, explosive 80s action heroes. Big guys with bigger guns.
The blastmarine gameplay fantasy consist of being the heavy weapons guy, battling the hordes of their enemies with their cutting and dismantling projectiles.
Melee - Knucklebuster Raise your left arm briefly (this is when the guard point is active) before cocking back their right arm's wrist cannon. Hitting enemies with this inflicts them with 50 stacks of cut. When empowered, the radius of the blast is increased and inflicts 80 stacks of cut
Visual: The guard point would resemble a boxer blocking a punch before counter attacking with a jab. The wrist cannon would resemble the red arm punch from ultrakill. The attack would also end with the blastmarine pumping their arm like a shotgun (cus it would look cool)
Super - devastator cannon (one off) The blastmarine would ready the cannon onto their shoulder (similarly to a scorch cannon). The cannon would need to be charged fo a short period before firing. The initial blast would deal high single target damage before imploding into this cloud large cloud of dismantling slashes. This cloud would last front seconds before disappearing.
Visual: the devastator cannon would look similar to a halo spartan laser, just much bigger and with a much bigger blast radius.
Aspect 1 - coverfire blaster Rally barricades now spawn in a heavy cannon for the blastmarine and their allies to pickup. This cannon fires at 300 rpm and has a total 25 rounds that it can fire before disappearing. These shots have a small aoe effect and each deal 20 stacks of cut. Continuous damage with the turret Grant's reflective plating. This aspect would act similarly to a gauss cannon from halo.
Aspect 2 - ballistic bombard
Enhance the functionally of your splinter grenades.
Shred grenade - improved radius and total damage and duration (now deals 170 stacks of cut over 1.5 seconds) Cleave grenade - can now be charged to skip across the ground up to 3 times. Each bounce creates a rend.
Dispersing grenade - increased radius of initial field and increased damage of implosion. Initial field now pulls in enemies and flinches them.
Glassformer - warlock subclass (name tbd) Where stormcaller is harmony within, the glassformer embraces the chaos of splinter to conquer the battlefield.
glassformers are inspired from crackpot scientists from monster movie. Creating inconceivable creations.
The gameplay of glassformers revolves around using rupert drops and creating unpredictable combinations.
Melee - broken flurry (2 charges) The glassformer sends a burst of 8 panes of splinter. Each pane inflicts 6 stacks of cut. When empowered, the total amount of panes increases from 8 to 12, they also can increased tracking to targets.
Visual: Each of the panes would shoot off from the glassformer's fingertips. When empowered, the panes turn black.
Super - razing burst (one off) The glassformer raises a giant ruperts drop infront of them, before slashing it with their splinter infused hand and rending it, this creates a large ape explosions that dismantle enemies in its radius. Enemies near the giant gashes are slowly pulled in.
Visual: Razing burst is essentially a large spherical blender that would pull in enemies not originally caught in its blast.
Aspect 1 - fracturing chasm Rends now linger for a longer duration and suck in enemies in radius of it. Killing enemies that are pulled grants reflective plating.
Aspect 2 - chromatic concoction Inflicting ruperts drops with elemntal verbs gives the explosion that property. (For example, applying jolt to the rupert's drop gives the explosion jolt.) A singular bubble can hold up to 3 new verbs.
Visual: When a verb is given to the ruperts drop, the respective subclass energy will begin swirling around the inside of the drop. The more verbs, the more colours swirling around.
Fragments: Fragments would be obtained similarly to strand, killing enemies with splinter will have a chance to give a 'shard of splinter'
Killing targets with rend reduces rupert's drop cooldown (0.5 seconds per enemy)
Apply more cut stacks
Picking up orbs of power grants reflective plating
Rapid finale blows with dismantle grant grenade energy
Precision finale blows against displaced enemies creates a displacing explosion
Super finale blows create cutting explosions.
Conclusion: I'm ngl this post is wayyyy longer than I thought it'd be. I wanted to just spitball an idea I had the other day for a new subclass

2024.06.01 13:02 Flyingvosch Which fast lens(es) should I start with?

Hi everyone! This is my first post on Reddit, trying to be specific so I hope it’s not too long...
I have inherited a Nikon D3300 + Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 VC, and after some months of use I’m reaching limits in low-light performance. I regularly shoot family/friends and religious events, often in buildings with bad-mediocre lighting I can’t do much about. Handheld, often can’t use flash. So typically, max aperture, shutter at 1/60 (or 1/30 in extreme cases) and auto ISO regularly hitting the defined limit (3200, higher gets really noisy)... PP does help (I sometimes do it), but photography is just a hobby or a help/service, so I would like to start with better low-light performance at the capture level.
Therefore, I am looking at faster lens(es) in the short/medium range, like up to 100mm. I’m aiming for 1.8 or even 1.4 aperture, but I’m a bit confused about which lenses would be most relevant to invest in, since I would like to keep it below let’s say 600 € (I’m in France, and yes I will buy used).
  1. Range: I know fast zooms are heavy and expensive, but I don’t think I will be satisfied with only primes. On the other hand, looks like no zoom (at a reasonable price) can beat the 1.8/1.4 aperture of primes.
  2. If I take an APS-C lens (which makes sense right now), I’m struggling to get rid of the fear that IF I EVER get a full-frame it will become rather useless.
  3. If I get a (crop?) mirrorless one day, would a DSLR crop lens work on it? Guess it depends on the brand and other details...
I believe the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG HSM would be a great zoom. However, on APS-C the range would start at 36mm (did I get this number right?), and I know I would miss out on the wide angle. I could add the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM Art, but given its price (and weight) I wonder if it wouldn’t be smarter (and cheaper) to get one or two f/1.4 or 1.8 primes in that range.
There’s also the cheaper Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM, but it would overlap with the 24-70 range and the aperture is the same.
What do you guys think? What approach would you suggest? And, more importantly, what specific lenses (primes or zooms) can you point at? Brands, models and their versions, etc. I prefer to spend a bit more if it’s worth it btw. Macro (small flowers) is also a + but not decisive.
TL;DR: What combination of fast lenses (primes or zooms up to ~ 100mm) would you suggest for good low-light performance on a Nikon D3300, in a budget of ~ 600€? First time purchasing gear.

“Me and Mike did this incredible record called Hold My Hand and the record is amazing. Phenomenal. That way we could have the outlets open for everyone to be able to receive the record. You know, Mike came up with this brilliant marketing launch for the record. You know, he’s the best at launching a record.”
Akon continues:
“He’d have the whole world paying attention in two minutes… And before we could get to that point, the record got leaked over the internet. And we got over 15 million downloads on the song for free. So we couldn’t [release it]. You can’t at that point. Everybody already has the record. But in a way, you gotta look at it like… that’s just a gift to the fans.”

4. Renko Chart: A Renko chart is a type of chart that uses a unique algorithm to create a chart that is not based on time. Instead, it uses price movements to create a chart that is more focused on the price action.

Time Frames

Time frames determine the duration of the data displayed on the chart. Common time frames include:
1. 1-minute: A 1-minute chart displays the price action over a 1-minute period.
2. 5-minute: A 5-minute chart displays the price action over a 5-minute period.
3. 15-minute A 15-minute chart displays the price action over a 15-minute period.
4. 30-minute: A 30-minute chart displays the price action over a 30-minute period.
5. 1-hour: A 1-hour chart displays the price action over a 1-hour period.
6. 4-hour: A 4-hour chart displays the price action over a 4-hour period.
7. Daily: A daily chart displays the price action over a 1-day period.

Backtesting and evaluating your trading ideas can help you identify potential flaws, optimize your strategy, and increase your chances of success. In this chapter, we'll explore the process of backtesting and evaluating trading ideas using TradingView.com, a popular platform for charting and backtesting trading strategies.

What is Backtesting?

Backtesting is the process of applying a trading strategy to historical market data to evaluate its performance. It allows you to test your trading idea on past data to see how it would have performed in real-time. By backtesting your strategy, you can:
1. Identify potential flaws in your strategy
2. Optimize your strategy for better performance
3. Refine your strategy to improve its accuracy
4. Evaluate the strategy's risk-reward ratio

Why Backtest?

Backtesting is crucial for several reasons:
1. Risk management: Backtesting helps you identify potential risks associated with your trading strategy.
2. Strategy optimization: Backtesting allows you to refine your strategy to improve its performance.
3. Performance evaluation: Backtesting enables you to evaluate the performance of your strategy and make data-driven decisions.
4. Confidence booster: Backtesting gives you confidence in your strategy, reducing the risk of emotional trading decisions.

How to Backtest on TradingView.com

TradingView.com offers a range of tools and features for backtesting trading ideas. Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started:
1. Create a new chart: Open TradingView.com and create a new chart for the asset you want to backtest.
2. Select the data range: Choose the time period for which you want to backtest your strategy. You can select a specific date range or use the default settings.
3. Add the strategy: Click on the "Indicators" tab and add the strategy you want to backtest. You can use built-in indicators or create your own custom indicators.
4. Set the parameters: Configure the strategy's parameters, such as the number of bars to look back, the number of trades to take, and the stop-loss levels.
5. Run the backtest: Click the "Run" button to start the backtest. TradingView.com will apply your strategy to the selected data range and provide performance metrics.
6. Analyze the results: Review the backtest results, including the strategy's profit/loss, drawdown, and other performance metrics.

Evaluating Trading Ideas

Evaluating your trading idea is a crucial step in the backtesting process. Here are some key metrics to consider:
1. Profit/Loss: Calculate the total profit or loss generated by your strategy.
2. Drawdown: Measure the maximum loss experienced by your strategy.
3. Sharpe Ratio: Calculate the Sharpe Ratio to evaluate the strategy's risk-adjusted performance.
4. Sortino Ratio: Use the Sortino Ratio to evaluate the strategy's risk-adjusted performance, focusing on the maximum drawdown.
5. Information Coefficient: Calculate the Information Coefficient to evaluate the strategy's ability to generate profits.

Best Practices for Backtesting

To get the most out of backtesting, follow these best practices:
1. Use a robust data set: Ensure your data is accurate and free from errors.
2. Test multiple scenarios: Test your strategy on different time frames, assets, and market conditions.
3. Monitor performance metrics: Keep track of your strategy's performance metrics and adjust as needed.
4. Refine your strategy: Continuously refine your strategy to improve its performance.
5. Avoid overfitting: Be cautious of overfitting, where your strategy performs well on the training data but poorly on new data.

Conclusion

Backtesting and evaluating trading ideas is a crucial step in the trading process. By using TradingView.com and following best practices, you can refine your trading strategy, optimize its performance, and increase your chances of success. Remember to evaluate your strategy's performance using relevant metrics and refine it continuously to improve its performance. 2024.06.01 12:35 Left-Finding6540 It's now June, I'm looking to make a thread of last minute tips, if anyone has any last minute tips for any subjects I'll add them

English: for section 1 question a on paper 1 use pqe, point quote explain, nake one point use a quote to back it up and explain, leave extra space after each point incase you have extra time to spend on it,alternatively a kind commentor added fhe following:Can I add one to English, from an English teacher. Instead of PQE, use PEEL . Point, Evidence, Explain and Link (to the next paragraph/back to the question). Will boost C mark.
Question b of that same question make sure if you write the text of a speech the whole text is said speech and if you have to for example write the text of a speech from a famous person you never step out of character. Your opening line should be basically a rephrasing of the question eg:write an article for the local newspaper, you should say "I am writing for the x newspaper to tell you about...", even if its unrealistic they still look for this in regard to your purpose mark.
For the composing:make sure there are famous people you can talk about a lot, also just a few topics that youve got some bit of knowledge on e.g ai might be handy
personal essay: use anecdotes even if they're made up
Short story:I'm avoiding this personally but make sure you show don't tell and alsondont leave plot holes, from what I've heard people who do this already have things like settings, characters and storylines planned out before the exam
Opinion essay: chose for or against and be strongly for or against, if im not mistaken you can be neutral but it's a lot harder
For the single text your first quote shouldn't be from act 1 scene 1 or your texts equivalent, your answer shouldn't be a summary
For hamlet: have lots of quotes, back in as many points as possible with quotes, remember the word regicide and antic-disposition, if the question asks about Claudius' role as villain if must only be his direct wrong doings (laertes, elder hamlet) and not the ones he indirectly caused by making hamlet mad (ophelia, polonius etc).
Comparative:constantly compare your 3 texts,(this next tip only applies if parf of your comparative course is never let me go) MOST of the time if you are doing the question 1 which is split up into a and b where a is in relation to 1 text and b is 2, never let me go will be in part a as it is hard to compare to other texts, this obviously depends on the question but if in doubt do that
Unseen poetry:I'm absolutely useless at this but on my mock I completely misunderstood the poem and got 17/20, waffle with confidence, don't spend too long on it as 20 marks is sweet fa in your English paper and the difference between spending 20 mins and 25 mins is no more than 3 marks. As a kind commentary added(soz days are long cba tagging everybody) backup using any poetic technique you can
Poetry: have one poem you can talk for days about no matter what, they will more than likely come up. Have 3 more you understand to be able to answer a question, then your perfectly covered. If you want to be more confident you can learn 2 poems to perfect 50/50 but from here to Thursday time management is important
History: if your a slow writer like me learn a metric fuck tonne of good quotes they're the quickest way to pick up marks, here's a few if you want them
Oh little sputnik flying high/with made-in-moscow-beep/you show the world its a commie sky/and uncle Sam's asleep-mennen Williams, democratic governor of michigan
The United States would provide political, military and economic assistance to all democratic nations under threat from external and internal forces-the turman doctrine
We are kings men and well be with you to the end -james Craig (not precisely a long one but so many essays it could be used in)
I want dr king to know that I didn't come to selma to make his job difficult, I really did come thinking I could make it easier. If the white people realise what the alternative is, perhaps they will be more willing to here dr king-malcolm x
Also know the 3 document essays off by heart as one will defiently come up,somebody mentioned about knowing every case study off by heart and learning information rather than essays but that's more long term advice than last minute, still tho
Geography: from here to friday dedicate 10 minutes to aerial photography, it's 8 marks waiting to be claimed. Nows probably too late for flashcards but if it isn't fucking use them for srps
Maths: nows not too late to print off a mock or past paper, see what needs the most work and make sure you fully understand them
Irish: if your like me and haven't done a scratch there's still more than a week, predictions are your best friend, learn one essay, one poetry notes, one story notes and one play notes and let God decide how well he wants you to do
French:be able to write about the Olympics as if your fluent, its probably going to come up. Know your tenses and your subjunctive. Learn off a few proverbs they add marks to any essay. "Je suis tout à fait d'accord avec le declaration Ci dessus","il est neccesaire de pesser le pour et le contre", "n'oublions pas le proverbe" and "a Mon avis" fit into most opinion pieces, know them(get correct spelling aswel mine was affected by autocorrect). Also if your down to the wire learn diary phrased, even if you write a bad diary you will get marks for the phrases.
Somebody has pointed out its the 70 year anniversary of the d day bombings so bare that in mind too
Accounting: final accounts will come up,know 2/3, learn all your ratios and all the theory they will come up, know either budgeting or costing as one of each will come up, that leaves the second 100 marker, it will most likely be suspense as that comes up every second year but it could be a 60 marker, I wouldn't even bother worrying about anything else until ratios, final accounts, budget/costing and suspense are up to the grade your hoping for but if all that is sorted learn off maybe 3 other possible 100 markers, that any you have 4 which includes the 80% likely suspense and 2 will come up, the accounting exam is probably the easiest to predict, and for the love of God know your theory. Keep doing exam questions of your struggling, every time you correct one write down your mistakes and have the list of mistakes next to you when doing the next one, then tear it and make a new list of mistakes
Biology: If you know photosynthesis and respiration off from the back of the hand, you are good to go because there is a very high chance one or the other will be asked in some form (could even be a full 30-mark question if you are fortunate enough).
Business: Be 100% familiar with the ABQ strands (the comprehension can help you out a bit in finding the information for each question but you need to know the material that goes along with it from the heart). For Section 3: Defo know Strand 1 or 2 as that comes up as a question 1 or 2, Ratios as that can come up (caught me off guard when I did LC and made the difference between H1 and H2 for me unfortunately) and then would recommend preparing either strand 6 or 7 (or both if you wish for the final question you decide to attempt) Think if I recall you have to do one from Part A, one from Part B and then one other question from either part. Section A is an easy way to pick up marks so if you are struggling bank on Section A and B to get you going and make a decent stab at Section C and know section 1-3 inside out
This is all my experience, I will add any good advice for these subject or other subjects that are provided in the comments, all of these are for higher level except for maths, good luck, don't panic and think about the pint that's instore once this is all over

2024.06.01 10:36 cookie_queen2002 Update on the Appanage and Patronages of the Danish Royal Family

Hello,
This week the Danish Royal Family finalized two important things that would be important for King Frederik and Queen Mary, as well as the former monarch Margrethe. This include the funding they will receive as well as the patronages they will still hold. I will be including links directly to the danish news sites I got my information from as well as the danish royal families website.
APPANAGE
On Thursday, the danish parliament adopted a new budget for the royal house.
The total appange for the entire family has now been increased from 121.4 million danish kroner to 143.8 million danish kroner.
The government also takes over the maintenance of internal portions of the castles which previously was maintained by the appanage of the monarch. Previously, the government only maintained the external portions of the castle. However, the government does not yet know how much this will cost.
Fred will receive 122.9 million Kroner a year. Margrethe will now receive 12 million Kroner a year.
Christian will start to receive 7 million kroner a year when he establishes his own household of which 3 million Kroner will come from the state and 4 million kroner will be taken from Frederik's appanage.
The appanage of Princess Benedikte and Prince Joachim stays the same. Princess Marie receives no separate income from the state.
Lastly, the government will give a one off sum of 30 million kroner to offset the deficits incurred by the royal family in the last few years. And Frederik will not pay inheritance tax on any of the private properties of the monarch.
Note: This is not mentioned in the articled but Mary is entitled to a portion of Fred's income as his wife. I am not sure the exact percentage.

A poll was conducted by DR.dk on the issue which can be accessed below:
https://www.dr.dk/nyhedepolitik/danskerne-siger-nej-men-politikerne-ja-til-ekstra-kongelige-millioner-tilpasset-den
PATRONAGES
The number of patronages in the royal house reduced from 258 to 140.
The patronages are also now time limited and will run for 5 years after which the organizations can re-apply for a royal patron.
King Frederik will take over 14 patronages from Queen Margrethe and retains 8 of his previous patronages.
Quote from the article:
"These include the American-Scandinavian Foundation, the Bible Society, the Danish Sports Association, the House of Greenland, the Royal Danish Geographical Society, the Royal Danish Society of Sciences, the Nordic Association and the Association for the Education of Apprentices. Frederik also retains eight of his previous patronages, including Copenhagen Boys' Choir, State of Green and Red Cross."
Queen Mary will take over 3 patronages from Margrethe and has added 2 more patronages to her list. She also will maintain her 16 patronages.
Queen Margrethe will only maintain 20 out of her previous 81 patronages.
Princess Benedikte will maintain the same number of patronages she had before. Princess Marie gained 3 patronages.
Now according to a user from theroyalforums (archduchesszelia, not sourced from any of the articles below) who has been keeping track, this is a summary of what was changed:
QMII went from 72 to 20 patronages.
Frederik went from 32 to 27.
Mary went from 32 to 24.
Marie went from 15 to 18.
Joachim went from 41 to 23.

2024.06.01 08:50 PuzzleheadedCry3423 [DIY Head Track Clip] Can't tolerance drifts from neuralnet, Can't afford to buy webcam only for tracking, Can't be confidence enough to mod a PS3 Eye Camera. So I made a Track Clip myself... With Visible Light (Green Light).

[DIY Head Track Clip] Can't tolerance drifts from neuralnet, Can't afford to buy webcam only for tracking, Can't be confidence enough to mod a PS3 Eye Camera. So I made a Track Clip myself... With Visible Light (Green Light).
Long Story:
When I first tried to search for head track solution for DCS, ED & WT Sim. All I found was stuffs uses IR and some AI face tracking.
OK, so I bought a used PS3 Eye Camera ($2) to use with Opentrack's neuralnet. It some how worked, but the drifting while not moving was too bad that I can't stay on target while zoomed.
Then when I looking at PointTracker input in Opentrack, I saw chroma keys for colours, isn't this means this was designed for used with visible light clips? So I first tested with my phones with drawing apps with colour dots, and it worked.
Then I bought components and designed a frame and assembled a tracking clip myself using green light and, it works perfectly, without the necessary to mod the camera or put filter in front of it.
Using visible lights instead of IR was so convenient and a lot less complicated, especially for setup and troubleshoot. I wonder why I can't see any result of people doing this when I first searched.
Is there something I misunderstand or if I overlook something? Here is my result:
https://preview.redd.it/xk3hq0f2ow3d1.png?width=657&format=png&auto=webp&s=e51daa28ea96f478aa07418b43e4b6cb605958ca
I took this in a well lighted room, when I tune down exposure and gain, my camera only caught the light form my clip, just as how you want when you use IR light. (which sunlight could disturb IR light, but not visible lights with chroma key)
I even tested with my phone's torchlight to see how it handle interference, here is the result:
https://preview.redd.it/m81j26fwow3d1.png?width=1171&format=png&auto=webp&s=20bd45741791415ab72d39649ba82ed5f22ece85
The chroma key filters out the white light from my phone and only picked up green lights from my clip.
So what do you think? Was using visible lights in head tracking clip a good idea?
Btw If anyone is interested you can get one from here:
https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1730047705/project-litrack-head-track-clip-visible
TL:DR:
DIYed head track clip with visible light. Works perfectly. Don't understand why no one talked about it before. Link included for result product & self-promo.

2024.06.01 08:28 rsodead-0531 looking for a lost horror book

im not a native English speaker, so sorry if my English is junky.
basically i read this Dr. seuss kind of childrens storybook when i was 7 or 8, probably when i was very young and just started learning English. I remember the artstyle being very similar to a Seuss book, but the colors only being in black and white. I think it was a collection of short stories but i might be wrong.
one story i remember clearly is about this guy's gf who wears a red scarf all the time, and as they got older and the gf got sick. the doctors didnt know what was wrong with her, and in her final moments, she takes her scarf off, showing her decapitated head that fell on the floor. i remember the scarf being the only thing colored in the entire story. the final page was a picture of the gf's head on the floor with the red scarf, with the sentence "and (gfs name)'s head fell off." I think her name was Jenny or smth but i might be wrong.
anyone plz help me, any information would be greatful. the book really shocked me as a kid, and i want to find it for peace of mind. i dont think its possible for it to not exist, since i can remember it clearly.

2024.06.01 07:22 TheCrowsNestTV Did your Parents ever get into Fallout or anything Fallout-related?

Some years ago, my Mom got into The Storyteller Series by Shoddycast and she really enjoyed the Series, including the iconic "That's a Story for another Day" Quote. She also played Fallout Shelter for a while when it came out, even got Dr. Li as one of her Dwellers.

2024.06.01 06:54 Feeling_Salad4900 Betwhale Lacks Ethics and Integrity

Unfortunately, Betwhale as given my no other option but to share my experience in hopes that others do not have the same fate as I have had.
I have been a loyal patron of various sportsbooks for nearly 20 years. I joined Betwhale thinking that a newcomer to the scene would be motivated to gain an edge in the sportsbook community by providing incredible customer service and a state-of-the-art website platform. I was impressed with the visual layout of Betwhale. I was also more than pleased with the horse racing wagering options.
My initial interactions with customer service via chat and email was positive. The KYC process was new to me, and I needed guidance. My driver’s license and credit card documents were approved in what seemed like minutes. I was optimistic about Betwhale! Yet, from here is when I sensed something was amidst. It took days for my bank wire transfer information to be approved which is unlike my experience with other sportsbooks. At this point, I began researching customer reviews of Betwhale, something I traditionally do but neglected to do so in this circumstance. I was shocked to see so many negative reviews of Betwhale, but I remained hopeful that Betwhale would positively respond to these reviews given their newness to the industry. As a social worker by profession, I believe in the human dignity of others and had faith that Betwhale would rise to the occasion.
On Monday, May 13 my bank wire transfer request was finally approved after I uploaded the document information on May 3. Jackie (the Betwhale representative who sent me the email) noted that the transaction would take between 5 to 10 business days. Fast forward to Friday, May 24 the bank wirer transfer (a large amount of money) was not completed, nearly 10 days given the upper time frame per Jackie’s email. I subsequently sent an email to the Billing Department. I received response on Monday, May 27 from Jackie Howard, Betwhale Billing Manager with the following communication:
Please note that the 10 business days haven't passed yet. It is the 10th business day now so according to the timeframe, we can regularly observe, the funds should reach you by the end of the day. However, some occasional delays might take place. Therefore, we kindly ask you to wait for a few more days. Your patience and understanding are much appreciated.
By this point my patience was growing weary (there are several other emails where Betwhale requests for my patience without any viable context as to why). It is now Saturday, June 1 (12:35 am EST) and my funds have not been transferred to my checking account. Subsequently, I sent two emails to the Billing Department without response (first email sent Wednesday evening, May 29). As I have mentioned, I have been a customer of various sportsbooks for nearly 20 years. Never have I received a bank wire transfer beyond 3 days. The bank that I patron is extremely efficient in processing wire transfers. The delay is in the hands of Betwhale.
It is painfully obvious to me that Betwhale does not wish to honor the following quotes that I copied from customers testimonials and as applied to my specific situation:
· Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we are committed to working closely with you to ensure that your experience with us is positive.
· Please feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience so that we can work to resolve this matter to your satisfaction. We look forward to the opportunity to make things right.
· Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we're committed to addressing any of your concerns. We value your feedback immensely and want to ensure you have a positive experience with us.
It is also important to know that “Customer Service” via chat is worthless in helping you with your withdrawal. The Billing Department seems to control the show, including your cash funds. Yet, they are conveniently closed on the weekends, making withdrawals and communication nothing but fluid.
It is my conclusion that Betwhale lacks sportsbook ethics and integrity. Please do not deposit $1 to Betwhale.

2024.06.01 06:25 NiteDimension Review: Seller LEO - Chanel 19 XiaoC & CELINE Triomphe Black Frame

Review: Seller LEO - Chanel 19 XiaoC & CELINE Triomphe Black Frame
Hey everyone!
My very first dive into the RepWorld with my for purchase of a Chanel 19 and CELINE Triomphe with TS Leo. I wanted to share my experience to add to the the RepScience as your posts have been immensely helpful to me. After doing a lot of research and reading various reviews, I decided to take the plunge. Here’s my detailed review:
Disclaimer: Leo asked for my review to share my positive experience.
Purchased: Chanel 19 Beige and CELINE Triomphe Black
Seller: LEO (WhatsApp: +86 19120637469) Instagram:luxury_leo1688 https://s.wsxc.cn/sadH4d
Inquiry Date: 17 May: for Chanel 19 from Xiao C. Quoted $235USD — received PSPs immediately 18 May: for Celine Triomphe from Black Frame — Quoted $278USD received PSPs immediately $55 shipment for both bags 19 May: Payment PayPal Friends and Family 20 May: confirmed address for shipment 21 May: Shipping photo sent 29 May: Received from FedEx in USA
Communication: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Leo was fantastic with communication. From the moment I inquired about the bag, he was responsive and patient with all my questions. He provided detailed photos of bags immediately. No pushing — just straight forward with the prices.
Shipping: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The shipping was relatively quick considering it was an international order. It took about 1 week to arrive, which is impressive! The bags came with their own dust bags. The bag was well-packaged to ensure it wasn't damaged during transit.
Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The quality of the Celine Triomphe bag is exceptional. The leather feels luxurious and the craftsmanship is top-notch. The hardware is sturdy and shiny, and the stitching is precise. It’s hard to tell this isn’t the real deal.
The Chanel 19 didn’t blow me away as much but overall I’m happy as the bag feels like and the leather feel smooth with hefty weight of the chains. The length fit me perfectly. I’m short and petite but feel that the straps are perfect for my hands and arm length.
Accuracy: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This bag is spot on compared to the authentic Celine Triomphe. All the details, from the logo to the interior lining, are accurate. I compared it with photos from Celine’s website and couldn’t find any noticeable differences.
I don’t know much of Chanel to compare the accuracy but the bag is beautiful and I am looking forward to carrying more casually.
Price: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
For the price, these bags are an absolute steal. I felt like I got excellent value for my money, especially considering the quality and accuracy. It’s definitely a great option if you want the look of a high-end designer bag without the hefty price tag.
However I gave it a 4-star because I wished I had known about the 6/18th and 11/11th to have waited for the sale prices. I would have loved to save $100-200 on these bags as I’m not that picky in terms of colors.
Overall Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m extremely happy with my purchase and the overall experience with Leo. If you’re considering buying a Celine Triomphe bag and are wary of getting a replica, I highly recommend Leo. He provides high-quality products and excellent customer service.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions about my experience!

2024.06.01 06:23 OkSheepherder7809 Am I wrong for not taking this job?

I have been doing work for a client since I started on my own. They live in a mansion.... I quoted myself low for them, but they have so much work I still walk out heavy-handed.
A few days ago I hung 2 very complicated chandeliers for them, and their parent asked me if I could put a chandelier in their recessed light above their counter at their house. Said sure.
So Im texting this lady and she's telling me since I charged $75/each for the complicated chandeliers that hers should be cheaper to install cause it's a used chandelier. I told her $125 and I'll buy the recessed light converter, install it, and then install the chandelier. She said $100 and I buy the part. The part near me is $40.... I also quoted painting 2 DOORS for $50/each. She tried to swing in with the $100 offer with $50 for 2 doors and their frames, both 2 coats each. I told her I charged $25 more per door for the frames. I ended up telling her the job isn't worth it to me. And she got pissed 😂
I don't think I should buy the part myself andninstall it for free, and then try and swoop in with getting rhe frames painted as well without ever mentioning them. She was specific about the frames later. But we're never discussed until she told me $100 for the chandelier. She actually ghosted me when I told her $125. I kind of didn't take the job because she kept saying "it's easy, it's easy, it's easy." If my job is so easy do it yourself.

2024.06.01 06:19 Intelligent_Fix_2609 AIO for Confronting a guy stalking my fiancé?

Sorry about the length but it’s necessary detail. TL/DR at the bottom.
When I (27m at the time) was working about 2.5 hours from home, my at the time fiancé (20f) called me because she had noticed an uncomfortable situation at the grocery store. A few years prior she had worked at said grocery store so she loved to shop there, plus it was one of the stores with the best prices, she or we could make our list, shop and leave in a very short time frame. A guy that my fiancé used to see, she explained she didn’t really date the guy, worked there.
In our phone call she explained to me that she noticed he would kind of lurk around the store following her from the far side of the isles. The first time it happened she didn’t really think much of it. But the second time she went to the store it happened again. And of course she noticed, clearly he wasn’t good at what he was doing. The third time I went to the store with her and he was working, but he avoided any area we were in. She was being very observant of the situation as I had no idea at the time. I knew his name and of course their history, but didn’t know what he looked like or anything either. This happened a few more times and one day my wife pointed him out to me and explained what she had been noticing but not in much detail. I told her if she ever felt uncomfortable because of it to let me know right away and I’ll handle the situation. From then I kept an eye out while we shopped to see if I would notice anything. One day, while I was at work 2.5 hours away, my fiancé had enough of it and called me to tell me that she had been continuing, and told me how uncomfortable it was for her to go to the store by herself.
She also informed me that after they had stopped seeing each other he had bought a car similar to what she liked and would send her pictures from inside the car with a playlist playing named after her. She pieced together that she was pretty sure he was stalking her… Insert my course of action.
I still had to work that day I received the phone call and make my 2.5 hour drive home. Soooo… I decided, let’s stop at the grocery store and see if he was working. Lo and behold! He was working but was on break. I waited for his last 15 minutes of break and patiently waited. While I was waiting I requested that the store manager also be present for a conversation I needed to have with the employee. I explained to the manager that I was requesting his presence so words would not be misconstrued, but also to put it on his radar what was happening, and who knows if it was to other women.
The employee in question finally made his way to the front of the store where the manager and I were waiting. This was roughly what the conversation was:
Me: Hi John (not real name) I know who you are but you don’t really know me.
John: Hi what can I do for you?
Me: Well John I think you know exactly what you can do for me, you can stop following my fiancé around the store.
John: I don’t know who you’re talking about?
Me: You know damn well who I’m talking about. I was informed that when she shops here you follow her around the store, but when I’m around you won’t go near where she is. Now is it ringing bells?
John: Oh shit eyes
Me: If I get another phone call about this behavior which is extremely unprofessional, it will go to another level. If you see her walk into this store from now on, you go the other way. It will not be tolerated. I asked your manager to be here because he should be made aware, but also so you don’t twist my words if he wasn’t here.
John: I’m sorry.
Me: I’m not accepting an apology, tell me you understand.
John: I’m sorry.
Me: What did I just say?
John: I understand.
Me: Good we’re done here.
I then left the store feeling like a million dollars, went home and told my wife the situation and she was soooooooo excited and thankful I did that. She also told me it was a good thing I had the manager there because he was apparently good at getting out of situations when he should’ve had consequences. It was never a problem again. Turned out later he no longer worked there about a month later.
Did I overreact?
TL/DR: Guy stalked my fiancé at his place of employment at a grocery store, I confronted him in front of his store manager.

2024.06.01 06:16 m6212 I came out to my best friend and it didn't go as well as I thought

This is a middle school story, I go to a private school, and I am a theater kid.
I realized I was bi a few months before the events of this story, and I had only come out to three of my theater friends (not at school); two also being queer (both girls and one of them I later had a crush on) and one who hasn't said anything (a guy). All three of these friends are people I met in theater, and they were all supportive. About two months after closing night of the show when I hadn't seen these people for a while I started crushing on one of the girls I came out to. She is very openly a lesbian. Let's call her Ashley. I told a separate cast member of this show(I'm very close with the whole cast of the show) that I had a crush and came out to them over text. I then told my guy best friend (the guy I came out to in the beginning and his name can be Steven) that I had a crush on Ashley and he got so excited. I shared the song I wrote for her with him and went over to his house to hang out. We had a good time and for a week he dropped subtle hints to Ashley about my crush when the cast group chat was active. Everything in the italics happened during April vacation, so when school started again on Monday, I told my best friend (let's call her Isabella) that I had a crush on someone outside school. Isabella's parents are silently homophobic and transphobic and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree if you get what I mean. When I would talk about Ashley I'd just use they/them pronouns because I was not yet ready to come out to her but she kept saying things along the lines of "Omg where did you meet HIM? Who is HE?" Pretty soon I sent her a picture of my crush and said "ya so this is my crush, im bi, and here's the song I wrote for her." I asked what she thought of the song and a few minutes later I got a response saying "its fine but i won't say anything about your decision". I just asked what she meant by my 'decision' even though I knew what she'd say. "to be bi obvi". I was just like "???" and started getting kinda mad trying to explain to her how you dont choose who you like and you only pick whether or not to accept it. I had beef with her for the whole week and straight up ignored her which I know is kinda cruel but she didn't take me seriously and asked me why I was mad at her. In this time frame that I was mad at Isabella, I started dating Ashley. I eventually forgave Isabella just so I could have my best friend back because I don't really have many friends at school. She later told me, and i quote, "I just realized that you were saying they before telling me your crush was a girl. The whole time I thought you were talking about two guys and you liked one of them" and she laughed it off. It's been over a month and we havent had any issues or bad blood between the two of us, but I keep trying to get her to be more open to discussion of queerness but no good results. I started hanging with the only two other openly queer people around isabella and we've all tried explaining to her about things like this. I still remember several occasions where she's said things along the lines of "Why don't people just stay with the gender theyre born with" or "Just pick one gender, why is it that hard???" and even "People are just saying they're LGBT+ because its a trend and they think it's cool". It seriously bothers me, but we've been friends since preschool and our friendship it really important to me. She still acts weird when I refer to Ashley as my girlfriend. I've begun to distance myself from her a little, doing partnerwork in class with other people instead of her and such. I'm really conflicted on what to do; drop her, try to explain again, or just stop bringing it up? Someone please just help me out here.

2024.06.01 06:15 Abelhawk What are some underrated instrumental songs from film soundtracks?

I sometimes forget how amazing certain soundtrack tracks are to listen to them on their own without the noise and dialog of a film. Here are a few of my favorites:
Let me know what ones you like or think are underrated. I'm only looking for ones from films that are instrumental and have a distinct catchy tune in them that goes beyond being merely atmospheric.

2024.06.01 05:01 dragonsrevenge Anyone else think some of Universal's park IPs lack timeliness?

I think as I was writing the title I was thinking, "well, not really," but let's see where this goes.
So you have IPs like Harry Potter, and Jurassic Park which will carry on for generations, same with Mario, DK, etc. transformers has been in the public conscious for decades, even if the bay versions have run their course, the IP will continue to exist.
The issues I'm thinking of are those that are already dated or exist squarely in the present
The cases for toon lagoon and Dr Seuss have been made over and over again.
Then there's the DreamWorks and illumination stuff. They just sunk money into these properties, that may be box office hits now, but but they get forgotten until the next entry hits theaters and then that's it. They don't continue to exist in the public conscious after that, there's barely any content that continues to come out, the references become dated within a year. Shrek and the minions are the exception.
I don't know if I'm making sense. I don't know if they have anything else that can be considered Dated-proof that they can work with?
Thoughts?
