2024.05.30 22:49 Particular-Sand4967 Red Wing 2966 7~ Year Review

Red Wing 2966 7~ Year Review
Full Album here, not all of the photo's were able to be added directly to this post. https://imgur.com/a/VdG88AD
I bought these from Standard & Strange about 7 or so years ago and wore them pretty much daily for at least the first 3 to 4 years. I had only a pair of steel toe modern production Chippewa engineer boots at the time that I found too big and clunky. I had also stumbled upon vintageengineerboot's blog as well as Brian the Bootmaker's IG page and became interested in something with a slightly more refined appearance, however I was not in the position to spend the amount of money that was often required to get something like that at the time. I can't remember if one of those pages directed me to these boots but when I found them at S&S they ticked all the boxes for me - Non steel toe, the taller heel found on more traditional style engineer boots and not what was currently used on the standard production Red Wing's at the time, the Klondike "tea core" leather, and the slightly slimmer "40's" silhouette (according to Red Wing's page). I'll admit I am not savvy with terminology that would make this a much better and more thorough review however I figured some of y'all might enjoy seeing some photo's of this now discontinued model several years later. I probably have not taken care of them as well as I should have and they were resoled about 2 years ago by a bootmaker friend with some plain old Vibram soles, but they have been used for their intended purpose which was daily wear including hours at a time on my feet at work and thousands of miles on a 40's era Harley Davidson. I did have my friend ditch the plastic heel stack and replace it with leather which I prefer the look of. If/when I resole them again I'll probably op for something from Dr. Sole but the Vibrams have served them well. I'd be interested in swapping the buckles out for some vintage style brass ones as well. You can see a lot of the tea core is showing through in spots however it isn't as bright at the toe's as I expected but probably due to oil staining them slightly from the motorcycle (1947 knucklehead motors aren't exactly known to be watertight). I have yet to experience any of the premier brands that are making engineer boots right now but I will say these have been the most comfortable boots I own, with the exception of probably being about a half size too small (I somehow have not been able to figure out what my proper shoe size is despite being in my 30's). They haven't been getting as much wear time the last couple of years, partially to me being less active on my motorcycles but also because of my aforementioned sizing dilemma. Maybe my feet have changed shape, maybe the boots shrunk a bit after being resoled which I have heard of happening, or maybe I just prefer a little extra breathing room in the toe box now. Regardless, I love these boots and I'm sad to see they were only available for such a short period of time as I'm considering trying to find a replacement. I am very curious about the Wesco Mr. Lou and how they fit compared to these but am also interested in other suggestions in the sub $1,000 realm that might be similar. I could also try stretching them a bit but I figure after all these years they've probably molded to my feet as best as the leather might allow. Anyways, figured I'd share and also I would like to mention I remember the people at Standard & Strange being very friendly and helpful when I did order these years ago.

🔗CJ Dasida Beef Flavor Soup Stock - Premium Savory Base for Korean Dishes

https://preview.redd.it/znm06ycryj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18795808a90ad37862b16d2c2a8e2a092675e419
I recently gave CJ Dasida Soup Stock's Beef Flavor a try, and it's safe to say it's become a staple in my kitchen. The product, hailing from South Korea, boasts some bold flavors that truly make a difference in my cooking. With a rich and savory beef taste coupled with the premium taste of select vegetables and seasonings, my dishes have been elevated to a whole new level.
Being Korea's top-selling soup stock brand, CJ Dasida is a testament to the company's commitment to delivering quality seasonings. I've been using it in soups, stews, and other dishes that need a beefy kick, and the results have been nothing short of impressive.
However, despite its great taste and versatility in the kitchen, I've noticed that some users might find the product a bit on the pricey side. But for me, the quality and consistency of flavor make it worth the investment.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a high-quality soup stock with a strong beef flavor, CJ Dasida's Beef Flavor is definitely worth checking out. It adds depth to my dishes without overpowering the other ingredients, making it a must-have for all aspiring home chefs.

🔗Organic Chicken Stock for Flavorful Dishes

https://preview.redd.it/fbh8gzjryj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57bc4918353a3906a3dd9ed26ceb6cb356fc77fe
As a foodie who loves to whip up delicious meals at home, I was thrilled to try out the Kitchen Basics Organic Free Range Chicken Stock. One of the things that stood out to me right away was its taste. It's robust, and the chicken flavor is so well-balanced that it rivals homemade stock.
The product's high-quality ingredients also caught my attention. It's made with just chicken, vegetables, and herbs and spices - no nasty additives like MSG. Plus, it's gluten-free and low in sodium! It's perfect for those of us who prefer healthier options.
However, I must admit that the price point is quite high. For a 12-pack, it can be quite expensive. And there have been instances where the stock has expired before its indicated date, which was a bit inconvenient.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I've found that this stock is definitely a reliable staple to keep on hand. It's great as a base for chicken soup, casseroles, and even risottos. I highly recommend giving it a try if you're looking for a quick and easy way to add depth of flavor to your dishes.

🔗Pacific Foods Chinese Chicken Stock - Traditional Flavor

As someone who's tired of the overwhelming taste of store-bought stock, Pacific Natural Foods Simply Stock - Chicken stood out in my pantry. Made from organic, locally sourced ingredients and free from any additives, the taste takes me back to my childhood.
I'll never go back to those artificial-tasting alternatives again. Plus, who doesn't love the convenience of popping open a carton? .
BPA-free packaging is a win-win for everyone, and the unsalted option allows me to tailor the taste to my preferences. Whether I'm in the mood for a hearty soup or a savory dish, this chicken stock has got me covered.

🔗Kitchen Basics Organic Chicken Stock, Tastes Good and Balanced

https://preview.redd.it/lxqy73bsyj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10c242e1c6cca352155e420721fdb4cbb83393f5
Imagine coming home after a long day, feeling famished, and craving some comfort food. You reach for a can of Kitchen Basics Organic Chicken Stock, eager to whip up a warm and flavorful soup. As you pour it into your pot, the tantalizing smell of roasted chicken and cooked vegetables fills your kitchen, transporting you to a cozy, home-cooked meal. The chicken stock comes with a plethora of organic ingredients – from vegetables like carrot and onion to spices such as turmeric and thyme, making every sip a mouthful of comfort and quality. And the best part? It's a gluten-free, free-range, and yeast-free chicken broth – perfect for those with dietary restrictions or sensitivities.
As you taste your soup for the first time, you're delighted by the flavor balance. There are no overpowering flavors, just the perfect harmony of each ingredient. The chicken is highlighted while the vegetables and spices lend a depth of flavor that just hits the spot.
However, every product has its drawbacks too. This one was no exception. While it lasts a good amount of time before expiring, I did come across a can that expired in 2018. Luckily, it was evident from the smell that it had gone bad long before its expiry date. The aroma that pervaded my kitchen and the ruined ingredients for my soup was less than ideal.
In conclusion, the organic aspect and the balance of flavors make Kitchen Basics Chicken Stock a delightful addition to your pantry. However, be cautious about the expiry date to avoid spoilage, and it comes with a premium price tag. Nevertheless, the quality of ingredients and taste make it a comforting choice worth considering.

🔗Enhance Your Chinese Cooking with Panda Brand Oyster Flavored Sauce

https://preview.redd.it/g9ywmnusyj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c492f19ff0cd9dabe1ac473bbe03ccb26aa1f30
I recently tried out the Lee Kum Kee Panda Brand Oyster Flavored Sauce in my cooking, and I have to say it definitely enhanced the flavor of my dishes. The sauce is rich and savory, adding a depth of umami that is quite delightful. One of the highlights was its versatility - it didn't just work well with typical Chinese stir-fries, but also added a unique twist to Western dishes like pork chops and cottage pies.
The no preservatives added aspect was a great highlight for me, and it was refreshing to use a sauce that didn't have any extra additives. This made the experience more natural and authentic, just how it should be. The sauce was also halal, which is always an important factor when choosing my ingredients.
However, there were a few drawbacks as well. The saltiness of the sauce was quite intense, and I found myself needing to use a lot less than usual to avoid overpowering the dish. Despite the convenience of the 32-ounce bottle, I ended up wasting quite a bit of it since it stayed unopened for extended periods. Also, the instructions on the packaging should be clearer about usage quantities, as they were a bit confusing.
Overall, my experience with the Lee Kum Kee Panda Brand Oyster Flavored Sauce was mostly positive. It added a wonderful depth of flavor to my dishes, but I would recommend using it sparingly due to its intense saltiness.

🔗Premium Brown Braising Sauce for Chinese Dishes

https://preview.redd.it/b0axqx7tyj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d21e72bbdd23ee2b30eb0e92189f9036bab1975
Recently, I stumbled upon Lee Kum Kee's Brown Braising Sauce during my weekly grocery haul. As a fan of Chinese cuisine, I was eager to try this versatile sauce in my recipe experiments.
Upon opening the bottle, I was greeted with an inviting and savory aroma that immediately piqued my taste buds. I decided to use it as a marinade for pork ribs, and I must say, the results were phenomenal. The sauce transformed the bland-tasting pork into a mouthwatering dish teeming with rich, savory flavors. My guests couldn't stop praising the tangy and aromatic taste, and many of them requested the recipe!
While the sauce truly elevated the flavor profiles of my cooking experiments, I noticed a slight aftertaste that I couldn't quite place. It wasn't unpleasant, but it was noticeable enough to be slightly distracting. I couldn't help but wonder if it was due to the use of wheat or soy in the sauce, as mentioned in the product specifications.
Overall, Lee Kum Kee's Brown Braising Sauce has become a regular in my kitchen, and I often use it to bring out the succulent flavors in my meat dishes. However, I would suggest being mindful of the slight aftertaste that some might find slightly distracting. But, don't let that stop you from trying this delicious sauce and exploring its potential in your culinary creations!

🔗Whole Foods Market Organic Fat-Free Chicken Stock

https://preview.redd.it/uebrixwtyj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=803ae05780687caf890a4084fb9c7023472501b7
I was excited to use 365 by Whole Foods Market's Organic Chicken Stock in my cooking, especially since it was a fat-free option. First, I opened the container and noticed the golden hue of the chicken stock, a promising sign. Pouring it into my stew, I was delighted by its rich taste that elevated the dish to another level.
The use of organic free-range chicken, carrot purée, and a blend of seasonings really shone through. However, there was one downside - the sodium content was higher than I usually prefer.
Other than that small detail, this chicken stock was a great addition to my cooking routine. The affordability of this Amazon brand was a bonus, making it an overall satisfying experience.

🔗Sichuan Spicy Noodle Sauce by Lee Kum Kee - Authentic Chinese Flavor

https://preview.redd.it/2t1xgp3uyj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=714a1130e20e377443ffbf375226258392909b38
The Lee Kum Kee Sichuan Spicy Noodle Sauce is an excellent addition to any Asian food enthusiast's pantry. It's made with authentic ingredients, like red chili, Chinese vegetables, shrimp, and soybeans, giving the noodle dishes you make a bold and flavorful kick that's hard to forget. I found it particularly useful when preparing a comforting bowl of noodle soup to enjoy on chilly days.
However, one minor drawback is that it is a bit spicier than I'd expected, so it's recommended to start with a small amount of this sauce and gradually add more to your taste. Overall, the Lee Kum Kee Sichuan Spicy Noodle Sauce delivers on its promise, offering a delicious and versatile way to enhance your Asian noodle dishes.

🔗Vintage 1980s Thick Frame Reading Glasses, Made in China

Experience the nostalgia of the 1980s with these Big Square Optical Quality Reading Glasses. These frames, boasting a vintage thickness and square shape, were a staple in the '80s fashion era. The glasses are meticulously crafted from high-quality acetate, giving them an air of durability, and they feature metal hinges and wire core temples for added strength and resilience. The optical quality of the frame is noteworthy, delivering a crisp and clear viewing experience.
One highlight of these glasses is that they are new old stock, which means they've been sitting around for years in excellent condition. While some may believe this is negative, it simply adds to the unique charm and appeal of the glasses. However, the 'made in China' aspect might be a drawback for some, but it doesn't detract from the overall quality of the product. Fit information for the glasses includes a 54mm eye size, 17mm bridge, 145mm temple/arm, and a width of 5 1/4 inches by height of 1 7/8 inches.
The only downside that users have pointed out, is that they run a bit small, and might not fit everyone comfortably. However, on the whole, these glasses are a well-made and visually appealing choice for those seeking an old-school reading glass experience.

Recently, I found myself in need of a high-quality chicken stock for a special recipe that required a bold, natural flavor. Kitchen Basics Chicken Stock proved to be the perfect solution. This all-natural stock is made with real chicken and other wholesome ingredients, giving it a rich and savory taste that's perfect for enhancing any dish.
One of the most impressive features of Kitchen Basics Chicken Stock is its texture. It's thick and hearty, so it gives a fantastic depth to soups and stews. Plus, it's not too overpowering, allowing the flavors of the dish to shine through.
However, the one downside I noticed is that it can be too concentrated for some recipes, especially if you're using it as a replacement for water or in dishes with less liquid. You may want to dilute it a bit to achieve your desired consistency.
Despite that minor issue, Kitchen Basics Chicken Stock has been a valuable addition to my pantry. Its natural ingredients and rich, satisfying taste make it a great choice for anyone looking to add depth to their cooking.

Lee Kum Kee's Sichuan Style Broad Bean Sauce is a flavorful addition to any dish. The 12.3 oz bottle, filled with 350g of fiery perfection, is perfect for adding a touch of Sichuan flare to stir-fries or as a dipping sauce. The Hong Kong-based brand's unique blend of spices and seasoning adds a bold, slightly spicy taste that will elevate any meal.
The bottle's sleek packaging makes it an attractive option for any kitchen shelf, while the net content ensures it's convenient to use. Overall, this sauce is a must-try for any foodie looking to add some zest to their daily meals.

🔗Taiwanese-style Chinese Sausage by Xishangxi

https://preview.redd.it/bpyi8wlvyj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=041bb4399149c992d267ad58f386fb62f7fdb311
I recently tried the Taokaenoi Chinese Sausage Taiwan and it was a delight to my taste buds. This brand takes sausage to a whole new level, offering a unique Taiwanese style that I hadn't experienced before.
The preparation process is simple, with just steam required for around 15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 166°F/74°C or above. I loved this sausage in my favorite steamed dumplings, which became an even more enjoyable meal.
However, I did notice that the sausage has a strong aroma, which might be overwhelming for some people. Nevertheless, it didn't affect the taste, and I still found it delicious and worth recommending to others.

🔗Authentic Chinese Herbal Tea for Dieters

https://preview.redd.it/3zl3qp7wyj1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=418e5cebb18ece53e4559505f9a965e10019a7b0
Recently, I've been trying out the China Green Dieters' Herbal Tea, a product that boasts an impressive rating and lots of positive feedback from reviewers. As I've been incorporating it into my daily routine, I've noticed several aspects that stood out to me - both positive and negative.
One of the highlights of this herbal tea is its premium blend of natural herbs based on an old Chinese book of medicine. The individually wrapped tea bags make it convenient to take on-the-go or to include in a busy schedule. Each bag contains a servings size of 1 cup, which means you can enjoy 30 servings per container.
However, there are some aspects I'd like to mention that may not be a perfect fit for everyone. For those who've had bariatric surgery, it's stated that the dosage may need to be cut down to be more carefully considered. The product's laxative effects may be quite strong, especially during the first few days. Some users have reported experiencing intense pain due to the potent laxative properties.
On the other hand, the tea does seem to help with bloating, aiding the digestive system, and providing a more natural approach to achieving a flatter tummy. The absence of artificial additives is appreciated, making it more of a healthy alternative compared to other teas on the market.
In conclusion, the China Green Dieters' Herbal Tea is a product with both pros and cons, with its natural ingredients and convenient packaging standing out. However, for those with bariatric surgery or sensitive stomachs, it's crucial to be mindful of the laxative effects and potentially adjust the dosage accordingly. Overall, it is a product worth trying out but may not be suitable as a long-term solution.

🔗Organic Pacific Foods Chicken Stock for Recipes

In my quest for a delicious and healthy chicken stock, Pacific Foods Chicken Stock, Organic caught my attention. With its convenient 32 fl oz resealable carton and no-nonsense ingredient list, I was curious to see how it would perform in my recipes.
What stood out to me was the homemade taste of this stock, which made it a perfect addition to soups and sauces. The absence of added proteins and MSG was a refreshing change from some of the other stocks I've tried in the past. Furthermore, I appreciated that it was free of BPA and that the majority of ingredients were locally sourced.
However, some downsides were the price and the lack of specific information about the amount of protein in the stock. Despite these minor drawbacks, Pacific Foods Chicken Stock, Organic has become a reliable staple in my pantry. Its commitment to using high-quality, organic ingredients and providing a convenient, BPA-free packaging option make it a worthy investment for any cook.

🔗Harley-Davidson Big Twins 555-56C-A Anti-Overshift Ratchet Pawl Assembly

I'm grateful for this Baker Drivetrain Anti-Overshift Ratchet Pawl Assembly as it gives me peace of mind while riding my Harley-Davidson. Made for Big Twins from 1980 to 2000, it's truly a game-changer. The ratchet pawl is designed to prevent over-shifting, which is a common issue. This assembly is built to withstand the constant cycles of the shift arm, ensuring smooth shifting every single time.
However, be prepared for a bit of an effort during installation, as it took me a while to get it right. Once in place, the assembly works like a charm and makes a huge difference in my riding experience. Overall, I'm really happy with this product and the reliability it brings to my bike.

The solemn, almost-inhuman Guardian/seer standing guard during a deadly siege as the young queen gives birth makes for a hell of a great start! That weightiness to his character was a key point of interest to me that comes across right from the opening pages, plunging right into the thick of it for a wonderful change of pace. Crown Prince is intriguing, grand, strange, and shadowed by ill-omens. It is Shakespearean." — Tom Mock, author of The Long Nights • "A very good book ... [and] a very great read! Natharr is very much tested as he strives to save the life of newborn Crown Prince Vikari. This book reads wonderfully, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know the story. It is full of pulse-pounding adventure and also features great, extensive world-building! Definitely a recommend from me!” — Philip Chase, Ph.D., medievalist and author of The Way of Edan • 5/5 Stars — "Author W.D. Kilpack III presents an atmospheric and immersive journey into a richly crafted fantasy world, balancing a strong character-led adventure with a wider web of plots, setting up a highly complex and enjoyable fantasy saga to follow. There’s a clear flair for character, dialogue, and attitude from the start, with Natharr's intense presence affecting all who encounter him and making for some really dynamic clashes. The weightiness of his responsibilities and the depth of the world-building immediately gripped my attention and, as the story unfolded, the way the characters’ attitudes and actions were shaped by the realism of the worldbuilding was totally compelling. This book delivers on every promise of pulse-pounding adventure — thanks to the swift pacing of the plot, coupled with dark storytelling, strong descriptive skills, and captivating character development that balances emotion with duty well. Overall, I would certainly recommend Crown Prince as an incredible opener to an exciting new fantasy series, and I’m all the more eager to continue exploring this fantastical realm." — K.C. Finn, USA Today best-selling author of The Book of Shade for Reader's Favorite • 5/5 Stars — "The literary creator in his act of creationism. Such is W. D. Kilpack III in his intriguing invention of Crown Prince: Book One of New Blood. Intermingling real world matters of both realm and state, and legendary phenomena of ancient times, Kilpack builds a mythical epic of worlds within worlds, all suspended in time and universal fantastical realism. He has crafted an imaginative tale perfect for lovers of mysticism, magic, ancient battles, romance, and supernatural fantasy. Natharr, the Guardian of Maarihk, is one of the Firstbborn [with] abilities like the gift of prophetic Sight, and he [is] charged with protecting and preparing the newly born prince of the realm, Vikari, until he is ready to take his rightful place as heir to his father’s throne. Set in a richly imagined and described enigmatic world, the story explores themes of family, love, friendship, destiny, time, and power. Adventure and action keep the reader quickly turning the pages ... deliver[ing] a strong narrative of structure, character development, and world building, which smoothly paves the way for the next book in the series, Order Of Light, which I cannot wait to read. Crown Prince is a masterful example of original storytelling, a phenomenal literary creation!" — K.L. Davidson, author of Ten Thousand Fields (British Columbia, Canada) • 4/4 Stars — "Crown Prince stands out with amazing descriptions, complex characters, and intriguing supernatural elements. Book one in the New Blood [Saga], the storyline is incredibly promising. The author has a flair for setting the scene and creating memorable characters. I absolutely loved the descriptive prowess of this author, the thing I enjoyed most about the book ... W. D. Kilpack III genuinely takes the time to help us immerse in the fantasy world, no matter if he describes a battle scene, a peaceful moment, or a mythological creature like a Hamadryad or a Manticore, he always manages to conjure the best images in our minds. The author does a great job of incorporating the supernatural elements in a general atmosphere of myth and legend ... there was nothing I disliked about this novel. I am rating Crown Prince 4 out of 4 stars ... fans of sword-and-sorcery fantasy will definitely find this novel a delightful read ... the series has the potential to acquire epic dimensions ... I am looking forward to reading the sequel, Order of Light."OnlineBookClub.org • 5/5 Stars — "I absolutely love Crown Prince! It is a very dark epic-fantasy story following a very intimate cast of characters. The way things unfold, you’re thrown into the thick of the action right from the beginning that sinks you in right. The way events unfold to the way characters come together, you cannot help but keep flipping the pages. By the end, I was so invested, I felt so intimate with these characters, that I had to find out what happens next, so I immediately ordered book two, Order of Light! It’s such a good story! It’s such a dark-but-good story, with very good character work, you get really close with these characters, and you can’t help but want to know what happens next!" — Usman, host of Bards and Books YouTube channel (British Columbia, Canada) • 5/5 Stars — With the maps and appendix, "the characters' names, titles, and the names of fascinating places all conjured up by the mind of W. D. Kilpack III [helped] me better understand the intricate facets of this novel. Creating worlds and characters is not a easy, but the author did an excellent job. Crown Prince has everything you want: intertwining sword scenes, the battles of a war, kings, queens, knights, magic, fairies, love, sex, great beasts, and unthinkable dangers thatNatharr has to endure. Kilpack puts you in the middle as Vikari starts to grow and learn. So does Natharr for he begins to love the child as his own. Kilpack's ability to crystally describe a scene [was] like I was taking part in a meal or a sword fight. Crown Prince flowed smoothly and any fan of fantasy will rejoice [and] if you have never read a fantasy novel (like me), this one will get you hooked into the genre." — Jose F. Nodar, author of Books, Pens & Larceny (South Wales, Australia) • 5/5 Stars — "Crown Prince is one of the most brilliant fantasy novels that I have ever had the pleasure of reading and a book I am now obsessed with! Crown Prince is an incredible, thrilling and memorable story that will take its readers on a journey like no other. Crown Prince captivated me from the first page thanks to the book's sharp literature and strong opening ... [the author] is not only a phenomenal writer for his flawless ability to capture his reader's attention, but he is also a great writer for his descriptive powers and characterization of characters which will hook his readers! Crown Prince is a sensational, thrilling and addictive story that will thrill you as well as entertain you." — RedHeadedBookLover.com • 5/5 Butterflies — "Crown Prince was such a delight to read! Normally, we don't see the child growing up ... or really get a chance to get attached to whoever raised him. This author took that trope, shook it up and turned it into something amazing! We get to see the heir as a baby, to see him grow up [and] develop that close bond a son has with his father. It's a really beautiful thing ... normally glazed over in this type of story ... but you get to see how strong their bond is. I'm so grateful! Something else I really enjoyed is how well Darshelle and Natharr played off each other. Often, they have deep conversations that involve a culture clash, where they may not agree with each other's perspective, but they are willing to try to understand. I [also] loved this author's world building, especially the magic forest and all the interesting creatures that live in it! The village of the cat-people was such a fun scene and so interesting showing the cat-people society and how it was different. It was really fun! If you don't grab yourself a copy of Crown Prince, you're doing yourself a huge disservice! It's a wonderful story and such a fun read!" — Madam Crystal Butterfly • 5/5 Stars — "Kilpack delivers a stunning blow to the belief that Indie-Fantasy is worth any less that its salt. Crown Prince is a well-crafted epic with unique plot mechanisms, well-developed and believable characters, and a world grounded in the visceral and the real. I could not recommend this series any higher!" — Clay Vermulm, co-host of Sinister Soup Podcast • 5/5 Stars — "A fantastic world of swords and magic! A very strong start to the series! W.D. Kilpack III does know how to draw a reader into a world of swords and magic. I found myself unable to put the book down, diving deeper into the fantastic world. I can say, that I am a fan of his work and will soon be reading Order of Light, the second book from the New Blood [Saga]." — BooksShelf.com • 5/5 Stars — Crown Prince is "a great mix of fantasy and action and adventure! It kept me on my toes the whole time and I was completely hooked! The world building in this book is amazing. I could read 20 books in this world. The fight scenes and characters are amazing. They pull you in so deeply ... that I didn't want to stop reading way past when I should have!" — Jay.Rae.Reads • 5/5 Stars — Crown Prince illustrates "the burden of knowledge and the responsibilities involved in being able to see the future. Natharr is a great hero: think Aragorn/Alanon/Teddy Roosevelt. He bears the burden of being Guardian of Maarihk with dignity but, at the same time, is human and has flaws, like having a bit of a temper. Darshelle is conflicted and a walking contradiction, being proud and strong, while still insecure and flawed. I love the world, where magic is more subtle, while there is another element that reminded me of Greek mythology, because the gods are real and took direct action in history. There is some violence, which seems to fit well within the framework of this world where epic fantasy and realism are intertwined." — Critic, Salt Lake City, UT • 5/5 Stars — Crown Prince is "a fantastic tale filled with all things beautiful, dark, and magical! Filled with adventure and drama! The author's world is absolutely stunning, and I can't wait to read the next installment in the story!" — Cherumanalil (Bangalore, India) • 4/4 Stars — Crown Prince is "an adventure full of thrilling moments [that] hook you right from page one. Each page has a new secret to unfold. This book made a mark on my mind and now I cam curious to read the other books in the series. I loved reading it and have rated it four stars. Books like these deserve the hype!" — Read With Emilee • 5/5 Stars — "From the start you are drawn into a world of fantasy. With each page, you want more. The author gives the feel you are the character fighting for your life and those you defend. A great read, with the power to keep you from putting it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in something new, with a twist and feel of a classic fantasy!" — Tom Carr, author of Talking to Yourself in the Dark • 4/4 Stars — Crown Prince is "an absolutely brilliant fantasy read ... [Kilpack created] a master introduction. The plot building was incredible. The journey sucks you in so much that you immediately want to carry on with the series. I'll definitely complete this series." — Twilight Reader (Wales) • 4/4 Stars — "If you're looking for something new with a a twist of classic fantasy, this is for you. It amazes me that someone can create an entire world from scratch with everything that this involes. Character building is wonderful and the descriptions of what happens are good. It is very detailed, so you get immersed in the story. Lots of things happen in this book. [Crown Prince] is a good and strong start for a new series!" — June.Reads (London, England) • 4/4 Stars — Crown Prince is "a lovely fantasy. Great read! Great characters! Writing style amazing! I loved this world. A new author I discovered and hope to read more from this author in the future!" — Rhianny DD Morris (South Wales, Australia) • 4.7/5 Stars — Crown Prince "transported me into a world where life-and-death situations were commonplace and everyone had a cause to fight for! The distinction between the Firstborn and the Aa was fascinating [and] really got me hooked! The characters are fantastic, descriptions of battles draw in you and there's a shock in every chapter! I love fantasy books and I'll add this to my pile of highly recommended sagas!" — Books with Gina (England) • 4.5/5 Stars — Crown Prince is like "watching a movie. The author has narrated ... in a very fluent and visual way. It is an adventurous and twisted novel that will always keep the reader wanting more. Every page is a new unfolding and a new mystery. The plot is exquisite and emphasizes important values like willpower, determination, and truth. A captivating read [especially] those in search of something abnormally smart!" — Reads.Nancy • 4.5/5 Stars — "Crown Prince is one of the most fantastic fantasy books that I have read so far! The book is a blend of thrills, mystery, fun, excitement, and drama! It has got everything that a good book should have. The plot is unpredictable and twisted. So much is happening all at once, but the smooth narration takes care of it all." — Just Pratibha (India) • 4/5 Stars — "A fantastic read! What a grand story in Crown Prince. I am very impressed with the writing and storytelling. Kilpack does a great job of building a world filled with princes, pasts that dictate the future. Kilpack details the scenes, filled with action, and brings the creatures to life! Crown Prince is filled with swords and sorcery, magic, myths and legends, that really bring it as believable. This author is a great storyteller. The story brings the reader on a superb journey. Who could ask for more when it's filled with magical/fantastical creatures and other interesting beings?" — Amy's Bookshelf • "Once I got into [Crown Prince], I struggled to put it down! The world Kilpack has created is so detailed and imaginative you can't help but be drawn in. This book is a fantasy that give you war, knights, romance and hidden dangers. It covers it all! As the first in the series, it sets the scene brilliantly ... I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy books and fairytales!" — Kat Books Teas Cakes (UK) • "I had the pleasure of reading Crown Prince and Kilpack — he makes maps, folks! — emphasizes detail. The characters are living real lives, even though it's a fantasy. It was well done! He built his world with great care and precision." — Ken Weene, Ph.D., co-host of the Let's Talk It Over videocast

2024.05.07 02:00 villainouscinema Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) via Villainous Cinema

a review by Evan Landon
I really, truly do try not to destroy movies anymore, or at least, not as much anymore. This one is going to be a bit of an anomaly for me, however, because this movie is built for anyone to just hate right off the bat. That sort of shit actually serves to entice me to watch some of these lesser-known or seen movies, so that is not a turn-off for me. Not at all. Okay. Let's talk about the good things first. It is an A24 screenplay that was acquired from a spec script written by Kristen Roupenian, then rewritten for the screen by Sarah DeLappe, who both have some very interesting credits as writers. Halina Reijn was then tapped by David Hinojosa to direct the film after her first English-speaking film following her work on the industry-adored Dutch film, “Instinct”. Not a bad group on paper, if you ask me. Now, let's talk about what does NOT work for me. To be as nice as I can be, this movie is not meant for everybody; in fact, I am not sure this movie was even meant for anyone in the very niche was shooting for. The characters are as unlikable as the script itself that teeters on nonsense. If “Oh shit, we're gonna die!”, “Oh, let's stop the tears and wait for the newest song to pop off”, or “Oh wait, you had sex with who?” with some of the worst acting and dialogue you could not even feign, even if you had mediocre actors. By the way, the biggest name on this marquis is Pete Davidson, and thank fucking Christ he dies so early on, that he remains a plot point and not a character in the film afterwards. Did I mention the acting was horrific? Yes. When it is this fragile, you care nothing when a script comes your way, so don't be mad about an actor not being believable or even likable. It's just gone through too many hands at this point and you could possibly even blame the studio for how transparent of an idiotic movie this turned out to be. This movie garnered waves for how “Brilliant” it was because of it's societal look at how a new generation identifies together, but I don't see any of these characters as relatable at all. We can face facts that it was catering to a certain crowd that may or may not stick up for it. Apparently, the reviews are in, and the fans say this one was a triumph, which makes absolutely no sense to me. The music is even lauded for how progressive it is, but it just sounded like mushmouth garbage done on Fruity Loops to me. Maybe, perhaps, I have no idea what is entertaining anymore or maybe watching a bunch of narcissistic, insufferable Gen Z nepo babies play narcissistic, insufferable Gen Z nepo babies just isn't my cup of tea. I'll look into that one day. 1 out of 5

2024.05.06 15:33 Leather_Focus_6535 The 113 inmates executed by Virginia in the post Furman era and their crimes (warning, graphic content, please read at your own risk) [part 1, cases 1-58]

This is the list that I wrote for the 113 inmates executed by the state of Virginia, from the 1976 Gregg national reinstatement of the death penalty to the state abolishing it in 2021. For the sake of clarification, the dates given here are an approximate timeframe of the offender's earliest known criminal activities to their executions. Many of the crimes surveyed here are also extremely horrific, and the gory details are discussed in my descriptions. Please read at your own risk.
Unfortunately, as with Missouri, the list exceeds the maximum 40,000 character count Reddit allows for submissions, and thus I had to split it into two separate posts. Here is the link to part 2 of this list.
The 113 executed offenders:
1. Frank Coppola (~1960s-1982, electric chair): Coppola, his wife, and two other accomplices hatched a plan to rob Payton Wetchell, a 55 year old car dealer, at his home. One of the accomplices posed as a delivery girl, and lured Payton's wife, 51 year old Muriel, out by ringing the doorbell. The group then forced themselves inside at gunpoint and tried extorting from her valuables though beatings. Mariel’s head was slammed against the door numerous times, and she ended up dying from suffocating on her vomit and a brain hemorrhage. When Peyton arrived at the scene, he was beaten as well. Although he survived, the treatment for the fractures required Peyton to have a steel plate grafted on his forehead, and he took his own life about a decade after the incident. The Coppolas and their accomplices made off with $3,000 and 3 rings. Coppola was a career burglar, and lost his job as a policeman for failing to report inmate abuse. His execution caused some controversy, as a witnesses described Coppola's legs catching fire during the electrocution.
2. Linwood Briley (~1971-1984, electric chair): In 1971, at the age of 16, Briley killed his neighbor, 57 year old Orline Christian, in a sniper attack from his bedroom window while she was laying clothesline. He escaped prosecution by convincing authorities that it was an accident. 8 years later, Briley went on a rape and robbery spree with two of his brothers (including James) and another accomplice. They murdered anywhere between ~12-21 males and females in their attacks. Their means of killings were very diverse and circumstantial, and completely indiscriminate on who they killed. The eldest known victim was 76 year old Mary Gowen, whom they raped and shot to death, while their youngest was 5 year old Harvey Barton, who was shot dead after the gang gang-raped and murdered his pregnant mother, 23 year old Judy. Some like, 17 year old Christopher Philips had his head crushed with a concrete block, a few others like 62 year old Mary Wilfong were beaten to death with baseball bats, and 59 year old Charles Garner was fatally stabbed with scissors and a fork. Almost all the victims were murdered in their homes, but some were attacked at their jobs. While on death row, Briley and James escaped with 4 other inmates, but were recaptured after a 3 week long manhunt.
3. James Briley (~1970s-1985, electric chair): He was one of Linwood Briley's brothers, and he assisted in him in the robbery, rapes, and murders of at least 12 to 21 people. As previously mentioned, Briley and Linwood broke out of prison on death row with several other inmates, and were all recaptured within weeks after their escape.
4. Morris Mason (~1960s-1985, electric chair): Mason broke into the homes of two elderly women, 86 year old Ursula Stevenson and 71 year old Margaret Hand. In both attacks, the victims were raped, beaten with an ax handle, bound and nailed to chairs, and burned alive when he set their houses on fire. He also attacked a pair of sisters, who were 12 and 13 years old, in their home. The 13 year old grabbed a gun from their father’s closet for protection, but Mason wrestled the gun away, and shot her instead. She survived with crippling injuries. Mason then kidnapped the 12 year old, took her to a nearby forest, and sodomized her. He covered the girl with leaves, lit them on fire, but she survived with only minor burns to her hair and shirt. Mason was also responsible for several burglaries during his crime spree, and was convicted several previous times for arson attacks. Authorities believe that Mason was committing acts of arson since his childhood. His execution sparked some controversy, due to him allegedly having a cognitive disability.
5. Michael Smith (~1970s-1986, electric chair): Smith kidnapped 35 year old Audrey Weiler while she was walking from a beach. He dragged her into a forest and raped her. During the sexual assault, Smith stabbed Weiler and drowned her in a nearby river. At the time of the attack, Smith was a sex offender with a rape conviction, and had reoffended against Weiler only months after his release from prison.
6. Richard Whitley (1980-1987, electric chair): Whitley went to the home of his occasional employer, 63 year old Phoebe Parsons, to vent about his broken marriage. As they were conversing, he stabbed Parsons to death. During the attack, he sodomized Parsons with an umbrella, and engaged in sex acts with her body. He then sacked the home of any valuables, stole her car, and fled to Florida.
7. Earl Clanton Jr. (~1971-1988, electric chair): At the age of 17, Clanton killed an unidentified woman in circumstances largely undisclosed beyond it being a robbery. Although Clanton was given a 26-28 year sentence, he was paroled 8 years later. A year after his release, he strangled a neighbor, 38 year old Wilhemina Smith, during a robbery of her home. He also had a malicious wounding conviction when he badly injured a teenage boy with brass knuckles, and his mother had made complaints of him stealing money from her. However, Clanton claimed that she faked her complaints in retaliation for him refusing a sexual relationship with her. Clanton also took part in the mass prison escape orchestrated by the Briley brothers, but was recaptured with them.
8. Alton Waye (1977-1989, electric chair): Waye invaded the home of 61 year old Lavergne Marshall, and stabbed her 42 times. He then raped Marshall and poured bleach on her body.
9. Richard Boggs (1984-1990, electric chair): After Boggs killed an unidentified man in a hit and run accident, he rushed to the home of his neighbor, 87 year old Treeby Shaw. When she offered him tea, Boggs hit her in the head with a steel object, and stabbed her to death with a butcher knife. He stole some silver from the home, which was discovered by investigating police officers in his car. On an unrelated side note, Boggs' older brother was shot dead by police during a car chase some years after his execution.
10. Wilbert Evans (~1964-1990, electric chair): While incarcerated for a robbery in North Carolina, Evans was transferred to Virginia to testify at a murder trial. While being transported in a prison van, he decided to take the opportunity to escape, and seized a gun from one of his escorts, 47 year old William Truesdale. Truesdale was shot dead during the struggle and Evans used the gun to destroy his handcuffs. Although he managed to jump out of the van, Evans was cornered by police officers only a few blocks away, and was recaptured followed a bungled suicide attempt. Evans had an extensive criminal history, and was convicted of robbing a gas station at the age of 18. During his time on death row, he protected staff members held hostage from being raped and abused by the Briley brothers during their attempted escape. His execution caused some controversy, as blood was observed coming out of his blood, nose, and eyes during the fatal shocks.
11. Buddy Justus (1978-1990, electric chair): Justus abducted and raped 3 women, 32 year old Rosemary Jackson, 21 year old Stephanie Hawkins, and 21 year old Ida Moses, and shot them to death. He was charged with a 4th murder, as Moses was pregnant and her unborn child also died in the attack. In two of his known murders, Justus was assisted by an 18 year old man that he befriend after he picked him up hitchhiking. He also received several life and death sentences in the states of Georgia and Florida.
12. Albert Clozza (1983-1991, electric chair): Clozza snatched 13 year old Patricia Bolton while she was walking home from a bookmobile. He dragged the girl into a forest and sodomized her with a twig. She was also severely beaten in the attack, and the corner's report mentioned that Bolton was "asphyxiated by her own blood."
13. Derrick Peterson (1982-1991, electric chair): During a holdup of a grocery store, Peterson shot and killed the manger, 45 year old Howard Kauffman. He then ran off with thousands of dollars worth in checks and cash.
14. Roger Coleman (~1977-1992, electric chair): Coleman tricked his sister-in-law, 19 year old Wanda McCoy, into letting him inside her house. He then raped and stabbed her, and she was nearly decapitated in the attack. A long standing sex offender, Coleman was convicted of raping a woman in her home a few years prior to McCoy's murder, and had exposed himself to two other women just before the killing. Unfortunately for him, one of the women happened to be an artist, and she drew a sketch that enabled the police to identify him for the murder. Despite his past offenses, Coleman had a strong following for his innocence among the anti death penalty crowd. A notion that was debunked following a 2006 DNA test that concluded his guilt.
15. Edward Fitzgerald Sr. (1980-1992, electric chair): Out of fear of her being a police informant, Fitzgerald abducted his drug dealer, 22 year old Patricia Cubbage. He raped and stabbed her 184 times, and reportedly carved a "tick-tack-toe design" into Cubbage's back.
16. Willie Jones (1983-1992, electric chair): Jones tricked the parents of an acquaintance, 78 year old Myra and 80 year old Graham, into letting him inside their house by pretending to be an undercover cop searching for missing children. He shot and killed Graham, tied up and gagged Myra, locked her in a closet, and stole their entire life savings (which amounted to $30,000). To destroy any evidence of his crime, Jones set the house on fire. Myra, who was still tied up and trapped in her closet, was burned alive. Jones was also one of the inmates that escaped from death row with the Briley brothers, but was recaptured weeks after the breakout
17. Timothy Bunch (1982-1992, electric chair): Bunch, a then active service Marine, was dating Su Cha Thomas, a 40 year old South Korean immigrant. Believing that Thomas was too much like his “slut” ex wife, Bunch decided that he wanted to rob and kill her. He tricked Thomas into letting him inside her home with the promise of a date. She was shot in the head and Bunch hung the body to a closet doorknob with a scarf. Bunch then ransacked the home, and stole a watch, diamond ring, and a pearl necklace. According to investigators, he confided in them that he had an orgasm while robbing and murdering Thomas. After the killing, Bunch was deployed to Japan, but extradited back to Virginia to face trial for Thomas’ murder.
18. Charles Stamper (1978-1993, electric chair): While robbing a restaurant that he worked at, Stamper shot and killed three of his co workers, 43 year old Agnes Hicks, 35 year old Franklin Cooley, and 20 year old Steven. He stole a total of $4,000 in the robbery. On death row, Stamper was attacked by fellow death row inmate Lem Tuggle for allegedly being a snitch. The assault left him permanently paralyzed, which made his execution somewhat controversial.
19. Syvasky Poyner (~1970s-1993, electric chair): Poyner shot and killed 5 females, 72 year old Louise Paulett, 45 year old Joyce Baldwin, 44 year old Carolyn Hedrick, 43 year old Chestine Brooks, and 17 year old Vicki Ripple during a two week long robbery spree. He directed his attacks towards beauty parlors, supermarkets, ice cream shops, and motels. A life long career criminal, Poyner had several auto theft, forgery, and burglary convictions, and his earliest date back to when he was 14 years old.
20. Andrew Chabrol (1991-1993, electric chair): Chabrol, a Navy serviceman, made unwanted advances on a fellow married sailor, 27 year old Melissa Harrington, and refused to back down despite repeated rejections. Harrington filed sexual harassment charges, and Chabrol was dismissed from service following an investigation. Angered by the loss of his career and her rebuffing his advances, Chabrol kidnapped Harrington from her home with the help of a friend, and tied her to his bed. He then raped and strangled her to death. The case attracted outcry years later when it was discovered that Chabrol and Harrington’s remains were buried in close proximity to each other in the Arlington cemetery.
21. Joe Wise (1983-1993, electric chair): Wise abducted 45 year old William Ricketson during a robbery. He beat and shot his captive in the eye and chest, dumped him in a water hole used for an abandoned power plant's lavatory, and drove off with his truck. Although Ricketson survived the shooting, he drowned in the hole.
22. David Pruett (~1975-1993, electric chair): In 1975, Pruett fatally stabbed his co worker, 22 year old Debra McInnis, while robbing a restaurant they worked at together. As the investigators weren't able to solve the McInnis murder, Pruett remained a free man. 11 years later, he tied up his friend's wife, 35 year old Wilma Harvey, in the couple's home while her husband was out of town. He raped Harvey, stabbed her 29 times and slit her throat, ransacked the house for any valuables, and stole an undisclosed amount of money. Pruett was also tried and sentenced for an unrelated rape incident alongside Harvey and McInnis' murders.
23. Johnny Watkins Jr. (1983-1994, electric chair): Watkins gunned down two store clerks, 41 year old Carl Buchanan and 22 year old Betty Barker, during a week long robbery spree. In the robberies that killed Buchanan and Barker, Watkins stole a combined total of $125. His brother Ronald was also executed for an unrelated robbery murder [for more details, please see section 49 on Ronald Watkins].
24. Timothy Spencer (~1980s-1994, electric chair): Spencer broke into the residences of at least 5 women and girls, 44 year old Susan Tucker, 35 year old Debbie Davis, 32 year old Susan Hellams, 32 year old Carolyn Hamm, and Diane Cho, a 15 year old South Korean immigrant, and raped them. All the verified victims were strangled to death with ligatures and ratchets. Another man was falsey convicted of Hamm's murder, but was cleared of guilt in a 1989 DNA test. The falsely accused man was one of the first inmates to be exonerated using DNA testing, while paradoxically Spencer was the first serial killer to be convicted with DNA evidence. Spencer also had a history of burglaries before his killing sprees.
25. Dana Edmonds (1983-1995, lethal injection): During a robbery of a grocery store, Edmonds tied up a grocer, 62 year old John Elliott. He bashed Elliot's head with a brick, stabbed his neck, and took $40 from the register.
26. Willie Turner (~1970s-1995, lethal injection): In 1978, Turner shot and killed W. J. Smith, a 54 year old jeweler, during a jewelry store robbery. A few years prior to Smith's murder, Turner had killed an unidentified inmate in largely undisclosed circumstances while serving time for a malicious wounding conviction, but was let out on parole. While on death row, Turner took part in the Briley brothers led breakout, and made several escape attempts on his own. In one incident, Turner pretended to have smuggled a gun in his cell, and used the hoax to make threats against the prison staff.
27. Dennis Stockton (~1950s-1995, lethal injection): 18 year old Kenneth Arnder allegedly crossed a dealer during a drug deal. The dealer retaliated by paying Stockton $2,000 to kill him. Stockton lured Arnder in his car with the promise of driving him to safety, and shot the youth in the eyes. He cut the hands off his body to prevent identification and dumped it in a remote North Carolinan forest. Stockton had a long criminal history since he was a teenager, which included several convictions of arson, safecracking, drug dealing, and weapons possession charges. Police also found dismembered body parts kept in a jar in his home, but Stockton claimed that it was simply a gift given to him by a biker gang, and he only kept the remains to show off at parties.
28. Mickey Davidson (1990-1995, lethal injection): Davidson’s wife, 36 year old wife Doris, made a decision to leave him for her ex husband. In a jealous rage, he beat her and her two daughters, 14 year old Mamie and 13 year old Tammy Clutterback, to death with a crowbar.
29. Herman Barnes (1984-1995, lethal injection): Barnes held up a grocery store at gunpoint, and shot and killed the owner, 72 year old Clyde Jenkins. Mohammad Afifi, a 42 year old Palestinian immigrant that worked as the store’s clerk, was also gunned down when he came to his boss’s aid.
30. Walter Correll Jr. (1985-1996, lethal injection): Correll and two accomplices ambushed, carjacked, and kidnapped 24 year old Charles Bousman Jr. after they motioned him to stop on a remote highway. After they stole his rings and watch, they beat and stabbed Bousman to death, dumped his body in a nearby forest, and drove off with his car. His execution was a source of contention, as Correll's supporters and attorneys assert that he was an intellectually disabled man set up by his accomplices for lesser sentences.
31. Richard Townes Jr. (~1970s-1996, lethal injection): Townes shot a clerk, 32 year old Virginia Goebel, in the head while robbing a grocery store, and stole $183 from the register. He had a long history of violent robberies, and had shot and wounded a taxi driver after holding him hostage for 6 hours several years before Goebel's murder.
32. Joseph Savino III (~1980s-1996, lethal injection): After he was released on parole from an armed robbery conviction, Savino beat his boyfriend, 64 year old Thomas McWaters, to death with a hammer in their home. According to Savino, McWaters was pressuring him for sex, and threatened to have his parole revoked if it was withheld.
33. Ronald Bennett (1985-1996, lethal injection): Bennett broke into the home of Anne Vaden, a 28 year real estate agent. After he tied Vaden up, Bennett beat, strangled, and stabbed her to death. One of Vaden's rings was stolen in the robbery, and he gave it to his wife. The murder was left cold for a year, but was solved when Bennett's wife drunkenly confessed her husband's deeds to a friend while showing off the ring.
34. Gregory Beaver (~1980s-1996, lethal injection): After Beaver escaped from a Maryland rehab center, he went on a rampage that involved stealing a car and storming a restaurant his stepfather owned to rob and assault him. While speeding away from the scene with a hitchhiker he picked up, Beaver was pulled over by Leo Whitt, a 49 year old state trooper. In the scuffle that broke out, Beaver shot and killed Whitt. The hitchhiker then tricked Beaver into stopping at a nearby restaurant, and he used the payphone to call the police on him. Beaver previously had 10 unspecified felony convictions, which was why he was placed by his family in the Maryland rehab center.
35. Larry Stout (1987-1996, lethal injection): Stout assaulted a dry cleaning store with a knife, slashed the throat of the owner, 40 year old Jacqueline Kooshian, and stole $1,200.
36. Lem Tuggle Jr. (~1971-1996, lethal injection): In 1971, Tuggle raped and fatally strangled 16 year old Shirley Brickey, and was given a 20 year sentence for it. He was released from prison after serving 10 years. Two years after his release, Tuggle lured 52 year old Jessie Havens from a dance hall, and then raped and shot her to death. On death row, he participated in the mass escape orchestrated by the Briley brothers, and paralyzed the above mentioned Charles Stamper for allegedly being an informant.
37. Ronald Hoke (1985-1996, lethal injection): Hoke forced his way inside the home of 56 year old Virginia Stell, a woman he met at a bar. He raped and stabbed her to death with a knife taken from the kitchen, and stole some medication from Stell's purse.
38. Michael George (1979-1997, lethal injection): In 1979, George lured 9 year old Larry Perry from his grandparents' home, and shot the boy dead after raping him. As the body was never found and the prosecution couldn't disprove his claims of it being an accidental killing, George was able to secure an involuntary manslaughter plea deal from the courts, and was released within two years for good behavior. After his release, he molested several teenage boys, and expressed fantasies about them being sexually tortured by "evil creatures" in the forest in his written works of fiction. In 1990, George made his fantasies a reality when he ambushed and abducted 15 year old Alexander Sztanko while the boy was ridding a motorbike. He shackled Sztanko to a tree, sodomized him with a stun gun, sliced pieces of his skin with a machete, shot him in the head, and stole his motorbike. Other teenage boys in the area also reported being assaulted in the same manner as Sztanko by a “Rambo like” camouflaged assailant. Although it is strongly believed that George was responsible for the attacks, he wasn't convicted of them.
39. Coleman Gray (1985-1997, lethal injection): Gray kidnapped 49 year old Richard McClelland while robbing a store he managed. He forced McClelland to collect over $12,000 in cash, drove his captive to a remote dirt road, and shot him six times in the head.
40. Roy Smith (1988-1997, lethal injection): Smith got into a violent argument with his wife in their home, and the neighbors called the police on him. He fired on the responding officers, and killed John Conner, a 38 year old sergeant. The remaining officers managed to subdue him after a brief standoff and physical struggle.
41. Joseph O'Dell III (~1958-1997, lethal injection): O'Dell was condemned for the abduction, rape, and strangulation murder of 44 year old Helen Schartner. She was last seen leaving from a night club, and her body was found near a beach. His execution was controversial, as O'Dell had a massive support base who believed in his innocence. The circuit court's decision to burn the DNA evidence relating to the Schartner case in 2000 sparked further outcry from them. Despite this, O'Dell was a long time felon with over 17 convictions dating back to the 1950s, and a woman claimed to have escaped a kidnapping attempt from him.
42. Carlton Pope (~1982-1997, lethal injection): Pope shot and killed 24 year old Cynthia Gray and wounded her sister while robbing them at a pool. He had a malicious wounding conviction when he shot a friend in the toe, and was paroled months before Gray's murder for that sentence.
43. Mario Murphy (1992-1997, lethal injection): 37 year old James Radcliff's wife hired Murphy to kill him in order to collect a life insurance policy. She, her boyfriend, Murphy, and 3 other conspirators pounced on Radcliff while he was sleeping in his bed, and they stabbed and beat him to death with a metal pipe. Due to all the other conspirators accepting plea deals, Murphy was the only one sentenced to death for the murder, which he perceived was because of Mexican nationality. His death sentence and execution also caused a minor diplomatic dispute with Mexico.
44. Dawud Mu'Min (1973-1997, lethal injection): At the age of 19 in 1973, Mu'Min shot and killed Charles Shupe, a 43 year old taxi driver, while robbing his taxi. He was given a 48 year sentence for the murder. 15 years later, Mu'Min was assigned to a inmate labor program. While working on a road, he pretended to be on a lunch break, and took the opportunity to sneak away from his escorts and supervisors. Mu'Min broke into a shopping center, raped Gladys Nopwasky, a 42 year old retailer, and stabbed her 16 times with a screwdriver. After he stole $4 from her purse, Mu'Min returned back to the work program.
45. Michael Satcher (1990-1997, lethal injection): Satcher ambushed 23 year old Anne Borghesani while she was biking near a highway. He raped, beat, and stabbed her 16 times with an axl. Another young woman was also assaulted by Satcher in a similar fashion, but she survived the attack. Both of their purses were stolen and disposed of in the same bush.
46. Thomas Beavers Jr. (1990-1997, lethal injection): Beavers broke into the home of 61 year old Marguerite Lowery, and raped and suffocated her to death with a pillow. He sacked the house, stole her jewelry, and drove off with Lowery's car. The killing went unsolved until a year later when Beavers was arrested for sexually assaulting a neighbor in circumstances nearly identical to Lowery's murder. A police search while investigating the neighbor incident found Lowery's stolen jewelry in his house.
47. Tony Mackall (1986-1998, lethal injection): While holding up a gas station at gunpoint, Mackall shot the cashier, 31 year old Mary Dahn, and took $515 from the register.
48. Douglas Buchanan Jr. (1987-1998, lethal injection): Enraged that his father, 43 year old Douglas, married a much younger woman, 31 year old Geraldine, shortly after his mother's passing, Buchanan shot him to death in their home. He also gunned down and stabbed Geraldine and her two sons, 13 year old Joel and 10 year old Donnie.
49. Ronald Watkins (1988-1998, lethal injection): While robbing a store that he formerly work at, Watkins stabbed the store owner, 29 year old William McCauley, 7 time in his back and slit his throat. McCauley's body was discovered by his father, who stopped by to check on his son after he failed to return home on time. As a sidenote, Watkins was the younger brother of the above mentioned Johnny Watkins Jr..
50. Ángel Breard (1992-1998, lethal injection): Breard stabbed his neighbor, 29 year old Ruth Dickie, to death during a botched rape in her home. He also made another unsuccessful attempt at sexually assaulting a second neighbor half a year later, which enabled investigators to tie him to Dickie's murder. His death sentence and execution sparked outrage in his native Paraguay.
51. Dennis Eaton (1989-1998, lethal injection): Eaton and his girlfriend, 24 year old Judy McDonald, carjacked 68 year old Ripley Marston Sr. and 26 year old Walter Custer Jr., and shot them both dead. While speeding away from the murder scene, the couple were pulled over by a state trooper, 48 year old Jerry Hines, and gunned him down as well. In the following police chase, Eaton ended up crashing his car into a telephone pole, and injured McDonald in the process. As they were corned, Eaton finished off McDonald by shooting her in the head, and made an attempt to commit suicide before he was subdued.
52. Danny King (~1980s(?)-1998, lethal injection): King and his then wife duped Carolyn Rogers, a 55 year old real estate agent, into letting them inside a vacant house by posing as clients. They jumped Rogers as she was giving them a tour of the house. She was choked with King's bare hands and stabbed to death in the assault. The couple then stole rings and checks from her purse. Both King and his ex wife blamed each other for the murder, but King was the one that was convicted of it by the courts. King also had a long history of robbery and car thefts, and was released from prison 10 days before the murder.
53. Lance Chandler Jr. (~1987-1998, lethal injection): Chandler shot and killed a clerk, 33 year old William Dix, during a convenience store robbery. He had a criminal record dating back to the age of 14, and had previous arrests for armed robbery, assaulting officers, and public intoxication.
54. Johnile DuBois (~1990s-1998, lethal injection): During a convenience store robbery, DuBois and 3 teenage accomplices tried forcing the clerk, 39 year old Philip Council, to open the register for them. When they thought he was acting too slow, the DuBois and the other robbers beat Council and shot him to death. DuBois had a history of thefts, illicit firearms possessions, assault, and probation violations.
55. Kenneth Stewart Jr. (1991-1998, lethal injection): Stewart separated from his wife, 35 year old Cynthia, after their marriage disintegrated. He was forbidden by the courts from being in contact with their son, 5 month old Jonathan, without Cynthia's consent. To overcome the custody barriers, Stewart tried to reconcile with Cynthia. When she refused, he shot her and Jonathan dead in her home.
56. Dwayne Wright (1989-1998, lethal injection): Wright went on a weeklong crime spree in Maryland and Virginia. In his Maryland attacks, he shot and killed 31 year old Odell Thomas and 24 year old Reginald Turman, and stole Turman's car and a total of $400. He then drove to Virginia, and held Saba Tekle, a 34 year old Ethiopian refugee, at gunpoint in her apartment. Wright forced Tekle to undress, shot her dead when she resisted his attempts at sexual assault, and swapped Truman’s car for hers.
57. Ronald Fitzgerald (1993-1998, lethal injection): Fitzgerald shot and killed 39 year old Coy White in his home in order to get his hands on the man’s 13 year old daughter. He abducted and raped the girl after forcing her to steal money from her father’s pockets, and left her locked in the trunk of his car. After abandoning White’s daughter, Fitzgerald flagged down a taxi driver, Hugh Morrison (age unknown), and shot him dead. Fitzgerald used Morrison’s stolen taxi to kidnap an 18 year old woman and her two children, and drove them to a motel. He raped the 18 year old in the motel room while her two children were watching tv. The family were spared and released, and Fitzgerald forced a couple to drive him to a courthouse with the intentions of committing suicide there. However, the attempt failed with his gun jamming, and he was captured by the police.
58. Kenneth Wilson (1993-1998, lethal injection): Wilson forcibly entered the home of his cousin's girlfriend, 31 year old Jacqueline Stephen, with a knife. He bound Stephen to a bed, and tied her 12 year old daughter and her daughter's 14 year old friend to the bed's posts. Wilson then made an attempt to rape Stephen, and cut her and the girls' throats. Stephen died at the scene, while both of the girls survived their injuries.

2024.04.22 19:03 especion Does Retailer Matter When Buying 1 Pound Bags of The "Same" Tea?

I am about to purchase 1 pound bags of the "same" tea (e.g. the same single estate's organic, Assam, OP from a mid-2023 harvest) and wonder if the retailer matters? Would you expect significant differences for the "same" tea from commonly liked retailers such as Arbor Teas, Simpson & Vail, and Harney & Sons compared to other retailers such as Davidson's Organics and Frontier Co-op?

2024.04.02 06:15 grungebob_scarepants Parting thoughts upon leaving CLT

There’s a time to come to Charlotte, and there’s a time to leave.
I’ve lived here for nearly four years, and although I’ve certainly found things to like about the area, on the whole it’s been a pretty unpleasant experience. Which really sucks, because I had a lot of hope and optimism that I might put down permanent roots when I first moved here.
Idk what the deal is with many of the people in this city (not talking about the fine people in this sub, of course), but I’ve lived in several different places/states and I’ve never had a more difficult time making genuine connections than I’ve had here. I’ve put myself out there, joined groups, gone to the MeetUp events, etc., but in all my time here, I somehow haven’t met one person I’ll be sad to leave.
I can’t count how many times I’ve hit it off with someone, met up with them once or twice, then never heard from them again. It always felt like people already had their “groups” and weren’t interested in additional friendships. That’s not to mention the one time I struck up what seemed like a nice conversation with another woman at the grocery store and then realized she was trying to get me to join a LITERAL cult.
To put it bluntly, I’ve met an oddly high number of very shallow/unabashedly two-faced people than I’ve met in my time here. And by two-faced, I mean I’ve gotten close enough to a few people to open up to them about very personal things, and then I’ve had that private information used against me in spectacularly cruel ways. If anyone’s watched the CLT season of Love Is Blind and gets this reference, I’ve met a LOT of Sarah Anns in this city. For some reason, it seems not being a “girls’ girl” is kind of a thing here.
And listen, normally I’m not the kind of person who would write off a whole city based on the behavior of a handful of people. But I’ve run into this kind of behavior consistently enough throughout the past 4 years that it’s hard not to start generalizing.
And then of course there are the issues we’re all aware of: Much of Charlotte is soulless and devoid of culture (outside of drinking). Most of the drivers were sent here on special missions from the devil himself. Everything is grossly overpriced for no good reason. And I’ll just say that as someone who had a personal connection to CMPD, they’re as much of a mess as you might imagine.
As for the things that made living here bearable, there are some genuinely nice little pockets around the area, like Davidson and Waxhaw. I fell in love with a lot of indie bookstores: Goldberry Books and Belmont Bookshop are excellent, and if you’re ever in Salisbury, check out South Main Book Company and treat yourself to some Go Burrito! afterward.
The Independent Picture House and A Cause for Tea in Monroe are two of my personal favorite gems in the whole area. As a theatre lover, I loved having access to so many great touring shows. I’ve had a couple of fun sloppy nights at Coyote Joe’s. And I’m not sure I’ll ever have a better beer than those made by Newgrass Brewing.
Plus, as much as people seem to poke fun at the food scene here, I’ve found a lot of favorites: Thai House, for example, and the pollo carciofi at Mama Ricotta’s. And if you want something fast and cheap(er), honestly, Chex Grill & Wings has never steered me wrong.
I’ll definitely miss the climate, and I’ll miss those of you on here taking the piss out of CLT 🫡 Y’all have made me laugh a lot and have helped me get through some rough times. But overall, I’m very ready to get the heck outta here. Onward and upward.
TL;DR: While there are certain things I’ve enjoyed a lot while living in Charlotte, the cons definitely outweigh the pros for me.

Anyone know who this person is? I have seen them appearing for years, taking up pretty much the whole classifieds section on different papers, always offering to pay for random brick a brack. If they own a second hand shop I'd be curious to see it 😂

2024.02.03 20:01 the_hot_one83 this review took 5 month to write!!! A review of 15 LVNEA perfume (am dyslexic be chill)

after a long wait for an actual real review here we are
so did i started this review before i started uni, then forgot about it and now i have a 1 page comment to write for my history of art class and ofc my brain need to procrastinate, and what better then write a review, so i wont have any inspiration left after to make a comment about a class that i left in the middle of cuz am still recovering of a bronchitis (my 3th this year, when am usually NEVER sick, like am disabled not sick, am always in pain but i don't get sick)?? yes absolutely, like always i write shit reviews to procrastinate
Lvnea is actually pronounced lunea! the V is just a design choice (a very confusing design choice) to me this is like the funniest thing anyway, am from montreal, and lunea is ALSO from montreal!!!! that's great it makes me so happy, cuz we really don't have indie perfume brands here, i went there in person, i think we were there for 2h talking with an employee. the values of the brand are really close to my own, and most of the employee are queer and neurodivergent from what i was told. it just makes me so happy that there a perfume brand in my hometown owned and operated by people like me. anyway lets talk about perfume
important message for the brand: i was ask by the employee i talked to, to send them this review, but am mean and too honest, so you might not like everything i have to say, but just know it comes from a lot of love for perfume and your brand. perfume are really taste based and i love 10 out of 15 i got so it a great love rate am super difficult with scent so me liking the 2/3 is very good. also am not polite, i think i am respectful, but am not polite at all, and am vulgar... anyway i think it for my transparency and caziness that the people that read me like my review so yeah just be aware... i don't want to hurt anyone feeling it really not the point of this... but i have to say sometime i should not say everything i do YOLO
i made some change to this:
LIKES: tea, patchouli, currents, tart fruits, close to skin smell, greens (grass, moss, leafs of all sort (tomato leaf yum)), atmospheric/realistic, citrus, frankincense, cedar, most fruits actually, soil, roses, lavender, salt, sage, cannabis, rosemary, cozy gourmand, marshmallow, smoke, cinnamon actually most spice, pine/fir, violet leaf, i like stuff that feel wet (fog, ocean, rain), ambergris, musk
DISLIKES: ozone, aldehyde, oud, sandalwood, cinnamon leaf, big silage, white floral, especially tuberose and gardenias, but also just florals in general, alcoholics, perfumy perfume, most milk, tar, when company say “for woman” or “for man”
HATE OR LOVE no in between: Hay, jasmine, incense, pink pepper, vetiver, fancy woods, most resines, iris/orris, petrichor, violet flower
to your attention: this is not really a critique, but it still normal i don't gush over everything, am talking about my taste not trying to sell you anything, i like all the company i talk about and if i don't i will say it. i am a bitch but don't let your feeling get hurt over a little dumb post please ;) love yall lets do this
lets goooooo:
L’ALCHIMIE after you made the philosopher stone and now your just a very rich person and you stop alchemy
notes: blood orange, black pepper, red mandarin peel, jasmine, rose, amber
Toughts: I like this but I don’t think the name match with the scent, it very bright, powdery and fragrant and to me a alchemist is so much more dark. Every time I learn about anything to do with alchemy it super dark ( ex: true metal alchemist in general but mostly the chimère épisode) it smell like a fancy cream, it really fresh for a floral, a bit powdery like I said before. It so work appropriate very very classy. It not something I would put on but it definitely something I would not be mad at if like my therapist would smell like (lol your funny I don’t have the money for a therapist, especially if it just to tell me everything gonna be ok when we are in a capitalism hellscape, everything is not gonna be ok and spending 150$ every week in a person sitting on a chair is not gonna change that lol (btw I like therapist they really helped me when I was a teen))
Colors: some way too expensive sunscreen, like fancy ass, face sunscreen

CUIR FÉTICHE so cool, it just so cool
notes: botanical leather, agarwood, saffron, incense, smoke
Toughts: This is one of my fav of the bunch and funny enough it one of the first creations lvnea sold, 10 (or 15) years ago, when they use to sell their perfume in punk concert, I was told this story when I visited the shop, and it just made me love the brand even more, cuir fetish is so cozy, but cool, herbal and peppery it absolutely gorgeous, it alt, but not too much in my head it like the perfume you were when you have a cool activity after work, like a concert or a ? Basement party ? (if your not an adult lol) or a kink party (if you not an child please don't be a child, you should leave if you are)
Colors: a full leather punk outfit, shoved in a backpack waiting patiently to be worn while it owner is working their boring day job

DAGGER MOON i am sorry in advance, i really channeled my teen self writing fanfic with this one
notes: dense woodlands, baked earth, ruh khus, juniper berry, coffee, nutmeg
Toughts: First thing first it minty but there no mint lol. It a creamy, woody, soil and fresh perfume. before we start I think I talked about it before but am in the Bdsm community, it not really important to mention but it gonna put context for the next bit. Just imagine your in lingerie (or your sub switch it around for your dynamic, also lingerie is for everyone ok fuck the binary) your laying in the forest, when you look up you can see the moon and the trees but that’s about it, your skin is creamy, soft, perfect. You can feel a cold knife dancing on your skin, never breaking it, only teasing. You smell the forest, the dirt and the depravity. You know that if you move too fast the sharp dagger will cut you but your not scared, it just a little blood. All your trust is in your partner. Anyway yeah that’s the perfume to me. so sorry for edging you (if it helps it took me months to write this review and i just edge myself by re-reading)
Colors: soft and translucid skin, a hand gripping soil, muffled moans and the moon shining on a silver blade

FERN AND MOSS dark fairy grunge
notes: pink grapefruit, lavender, basil, fresh moss, tonka bean, vetiver
Toughts: i don't get any lavender or grapefruit I like and don’t like this, i feel that if i got more lavendegrapefruit i would have ADORE THIS but right now it like a metallic green, it leafy, mossy, maybe powdery (maybe that the lavender part), but it also bloody? like it nickel-y. it kinda smell like if it been raining for days and there big puddles that take so long to dry that they become their own ecosystem, also there a single nail with rust in it? it a little cemetery forward for sure. tbh it hard to explain but i know that if you love this one your cool af. and the dry down is straight up vetiver
Colors: oil spill in a swamp? the perfume in itself not dull, it very interesting very weird, but the visual i get is dull, like a dull green, a muddy green, think melting snow, think spooky urban exploring, think y2k fairy grunge vibes. this perfume is a vibe for sure, i just don't know if it mine lol

FEU FOLLET a modern tragedy
notes: smoke, wood, botanical leather, tree resin and charred bark
Thoughts: so like i said before, i knew about lvnea for a while, they are the only Montreal (i think Quebec) based indie perfume brand i knew i had to go in person but i have bad PDA so it took me 2 years to go, feu follet was THE perfume i wanted from them, the perfume i dreamed about for 2 years... i hate it, i HATE it, like it difficult to smell, it the smoke note, it doesn't work for me, it gets sulfuric and it so heavy, and there a sweetness that makes it worst for me. LVNEA quickly became one of my favorite brand, so honestly i don't give 2 shit that i don't like this perfume, but i wanted to mention it. i think it also important to note that i had expectation and i tent to be very disappointed every time i have expectation, i still don't like their smoke note but later on we will talk about tasseomancy that also have that smoke note and it way better there. anyway i want a redo of this fragrance but switch the smoke note for MORARI frankincense and hinoki and am sure it would SLAP
Colors: heavy black and brown smoke, black tar and white sugar?

FROST FLOWER romanticizing hypothermia
notes: tuberose. jasmine, soft musk, black currant, cypress
Thoughts: everyone that read me more then once knows am not a fan of floral, even less tuberose, i HATE tuberose, but this THIS! THISSSSS!!!!!!!! gosh, this is a masterpiece, it is floral, but it not offensive at all, there it coldness but it not minty at all, i was told by the employee i talk to that it the black current leaves, anyway i think currents is probably one of my fav notes it makes everything better, EVEN TUBAROSE, that's just insane lol it so cool, like if you have this on i will assume your the cooless stoic bitch, with the elegance of a ballet dancer. sexy frigid woman with thin rectangle glasses, the type of boss ass bitch that men hate cuz she's "emotionless" (non nonsense) "casse couille" (a good leader) and "bossy" (a know what she wants). the type of woman that makes ME think, yes step on me your highness and make my friends think why the fuck she's so mean to you, but she's not she just don't say please. idk if you see the vibe, but i do and that what important
Colors: the name is spot on, you know when it very cold and humid so there this beautiful frost on everything, this is it! it this thin sparkly swirls of frost. light lilacs, cold pale blues and sparkly white. it the first flower of the season pushing trough the frozen soil and the snow to remind us of spring after a dark winter

GHOST PINE do you believe in ghost?
notes: pine needles, wet leaves, damp moss, ancient woods, fog
Thoughts: i love this perfume, i do, like i actually put it on more then a lot of other perfume in my collection, and i always use it in forest mix but it a little blank aesthetically wise, like it hard to associate this to anything else then the notes, it a foggy pine forest. funny enough it called ghost pine i think the name is perfect, it exactly what it is a ghost-y pine, it smell like pine and ghost lollll. AMAZING for layering, like it gets twice as good when layered cuz it add a je ne sait quoi to a lot of different perfume. like with a gourmand, it always add a witchy vibe to them. with a floral it makes it more realistic, like if it a true flower you pick yourself and not the smell of a perfume.
Colors: like literally exactly the notes, to a tea

MOURNING RITUAL this one was wild in their youth, probably still wild today
notes: wilted rose, cathedral incense, black velvet, patchouli
Thoughts: i love this, it like a very thorny rose bush, way more thorns then roses. it definitely give cigarette Harley Davidson milf mom vibe, tight leather pants, a very tiny camisole, always a cigarette in between 2 fingers, thin eyebrow and a thick black around the eyes. right now i have a lighter torch with a cobra and roses on it, it white black and gray, and it just such the vibe of this perfume it almost funny
Colors: a sexy milf on a motorbike surrendered by thorny white roses and smoke

NUIT DESERT i love this so much am thinking of FS it the most recomforting shit ever, like all the good part of my cildhood (there was not a lot so it pretty easy) in one perfume
notes: cedar leaf, blood cedarwood, jasmine, vetiver, sandalwood, agarwood, woodsmoke
Thoughts: this one was in my Olympics of the year, and tbh there nothing more (or less) to say about this perfume, so to safe me 20 minute am just gonna copied what i said here : it just smell like cedar. And that great like that exactly what I wanted, when I was a kid I use to go to my grand mother house a lot I don’t anymore cuz that house was bought she’s still alive lol, anyway it had a lot of cedar trees all around it, and each time we would make a fire outside she would let us cut a bit of the cedar bushes and put it in the fire, it made the fire smell amazing and my fingers too. My childhood was pretty shitty, but those are the memory I can reattached my self to without feeling pain. The smell of cedar is extremely calming to me. Take away all my worries
Colors: cedar, when you first put it on it like you just took some cedar (green part) and crushed it with you fingers, then when it dry and it like putting you nose in a cedar bush and on the dry down it like having you house surrounded by cedar bushes and trees

PAPILLON DE NUIT pale wood and macramé
notes: palo santo, white champaca flower, magnolia, botanical white musk accor, sandalwood
Thoughts: this is kinda insane, it truly smell like palo santo but there no palo santo in it, that's amazing like chemically amazing and also it way more ethical then anything with palo santo today. i have to say that it gives boho vibes and that annoys me cuz palo santo is like such important plant for indegenous people of south America and the vibe it gives me is white bitch that like pale wood, yoga and macramé and don't even understand that most of their aesthetic is stolen from Romani and indigenous people, gosh why am i always so negative, i talk about a perfume i adore and i have to say some shit bleh to me big bleh! on a other note is super recomforting and smells devine, like it just so good. do you know the story of most hippies, they became yuppies cuz they were just rich kid rebelling, this smell like if your very grand mother never became a yuppie
Colors: pale wood and macramé, and those really cool woven wood furniture

PÊCHE OBSCENE ou la la, if you think like me taurus are the sexiest people on earth you will adore this for sure
notes: ripe peach, jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood, oakmoss, vetiver
Thoughts: probably my favorite jasmine (w/o counting laurel canyon cuz i don't think it jasmin-y enough to count) this shit is amazing, the peach is juicy and bright the jasmine is sexy af and the oakmoss and vetiver keep it from being too frilly and childish witch can happen easily with fruity florals. it just perfect, it a sexy peach ring XD it gets better in the summer then in the winter, it another perfume that gets better with sweat (so gross) like it get more sexy if your hot (literally) already.
Colors: it a forest at night, a peach so ripe that it juices burst in your mouth each time you bite also THE peach scene (it was an abricot, but nonetheless the peach scene)

SAFFRON ROUGE i am very intimidated by this
notes: botanical leather, saffron, rose attar, cinnamon, calamus, red spikenard
Thoughts: i do not like this perfume BUT if you were this, you just too cool for anyone esspecially me, like i would look at you from afar and still feel like i don't even deserve to put my eye in your direction. it mostly rose and saffron, a really realistic rose and saffron. i don't like the mix it doesn't give me dopamine it give me performance anxiety but it is cool af that's for sure
Colors: the most beautiful curly blond hair, 90es prom dress, idk why but my brain tell me carmen matching top and skirt in spy kids but not purple and gold red and gold, idk why that my first example that comes to mind when am sure there better ones out there lol but you know what am talking about, long maxi dress, sometime they were velvet sometime they were silk, and sometimes they had 2 layers 1 color layer and one lace layers. some had some little sparkles, in red and gold that important and ofc a black velvet chocker

SPIRITUM dark fairy grunge
notes: sacred galbanum, patchouli, green smoke, oakmoss, labdanum
Thoughts: it very similar to not dead but arisen from fantome, but like minus the citrus. it a very straight forward green, a bit more on the darker side, it bitter and there a bit of a licorice background, it very interesting but like always i need to be 100% honest, it not the same as fern and moss but it too similar, it gives the same aesthetic, i don't really understand why it in the same set, like there other very different green in this set, ghost pine and nuit desert are both very different, but i think spiritum and fern and moss are to similar to excuse 4 green in one collection, i feel like a very bright and soapy green would have been more interesting, and it not that it not good, far from that it great, but 2 dark and bitter green that give fairy grunge in a discovery set is redundant. not the same though spiritum as a licorice-y background it more bitter and fern and moss is more metallic and powdery
Colors: some mysterious cemetery, like with fog and creepy trees, there a random cat looking at you as if your not welcome here . ominous music whatever that means to you
fun witch fact: most cemetery have protectors, cats, crow, foxes, dears, cardinals or fucking peacocks, and they curse people that disrespect the cemetery, by like taking the dirt, stealing the gift to the dead, vandalizing the tombstone. always respect the dead except Richard Poncher, rapist and murder then don't worry the protector gets it.

TASSOMANCY ok i see you i see you
notes: bergamot, black tea, lapsang souchong, honey, spice, milk accord
Thoughts: so when i first smelled this i really didin't like it, cuz of the smoke note we talked about earlier but, i just couldn't stop thinking about it, idk why, i still don't like the smoke note, but this perfume is addictive, it captivating, it pull you in. it like a ear worm but in perfume form, ??a nose worm?? it milky, smoky and as the tiniest bit of honey, it smell pretty much exactly like what lapsang souchong taste like. the bergamot and black tea add a brightness to the smoke note that is definitely not present with feu follet. it very interesting
Colors: piping hot lapsang souchong latte. maybe a bit of art nouveau moon and star aesthetic also kinda give me the trip to the moon movie, for sure!! did you know it a French movie, and in French it called le voyage dans la lune, and that means the trip INSIDE the moon. and i feel like travel inside the moon fit better with tasseomancy. it also give, vintage tea cups and crystal balls. purple and silvers

VIOLET WOOD Alice in wonderland core
notes: violet leaf, violet blossoms, orris root, soft woods, tonka bean
Thoughts: ok the first not is the violet i don't like, but the DRY DOWN, lets talk about it, the dry down is AMAZING, it woody and mysterious like Alice falling into the rabbit hole. the first note is also beautiful but it smell like hand cream, and i just hate hand cream, so it more a i don't like what it remind me of dislike then a it smell bad dislike lol, but again the dry down it so amazing, it more woody, ??crumble-y?? it espiègle. very Alice in wonderland coded, a little rich girl, escaping her mundane and sheltered life for some crazy adventure in a parallel world.
Colors: at first it a cute little blue dress, and some cute little Mary-Jane shoes, talking pansy and a very proper tea party. the dry down, it the fall into the rabbit hole, with dirt and roots, and some little bunny size furniture. i really think that it hilarious that the first notes give me Alice in wonderland and the dry down give me going to wonderland, it reverse but whatever i don't care

on that note, have great day, i personally should really start my comment but gosh i don't feel like it at all i have like 0 inspiration... and she correct mistakes so i loose so many point for dumb shit i cant control... should i make it a video this time? idk but i don't want to make a text

Atlanta area 23K wedding (58 guests) long budget breakdown
My heart felt so full on our wedding day!
Our photographer's sneak peak.
https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cy3YKFWuGqF/

It was magical joining hands during our first look!
We were happily kissing after our ceremony. Earlier, we really wanted to kiss, but my husband was nervous about messing up my makeup.
We had duck food so that guests could feed the ducks on the venue
centerpieces
rings

I found recaps very helpful in the planning phase, so if someone wants to see a sample of how numbers can play out.
Guest count: We invited around 87 people, got 58 guests, not including us. One family that RSVPed yes initially was not able to make it work, but let us know before our final headcounts were due. We had a gate-crasher, but zero no-shows. We invited children, and wound up with five (six if you count our daughter!)
Cost-sharing: My partner and I paid for most things. His parents got some beer, iced tea, and soda, as well as plants and costs for the arch. My mother covered some of the drinks at our rehearsal dinner and help with set-up and tear down.
The aggregate number is for the wedding and does not include our rehearsal dinner or after-party.
Venue
Venue: $2400 for a Friday rental from 11 AM to 11 PM. Our rental included tables and chairs. The venue set up tables and chairs indoors, but the rental cost did not cover setting up chairs outside.
Food, Drinks, and Dessert:
  • Food: $2948 for a drop catering order from a Mediterranean restaurant.
  • Servers ($1260) : We hired an event staffing service with three servers and a bartender with insurance for seven hours. The service did not charge for the first half hour.
  • Dessert ($281): Instead of a fancy multi-tier cake, we did several desserts from a local bakery (Key Lime Cake, Amaretto Butter Cake, German Chocolate Cake and Pecan Tart) and a Farmer's Market ( Pistachio Frangipane, Mascarpone Berry Tart, Tiramisu). The cost certainly could have been lower, but my husband wanted ample portions of several desserts, even if it meant we would have more than necessary.
  • Alcohol: ($555) Three varietals of white wine, two varietals of red wine, four different kinds of beer and IPA variety packs on top of that, gin, bourbon, dark rum, light rum, and vodka, and some prosecco for toasting.
  • Mixers & Non-Alcoholic Beverages ($155)
  • Other Bar Stuff ($175) Garnishes, beverage tubs, cocktail napkins, bottle openers.
  • Plates, napkins, and utensils ($317). We ordered disposables (tried to go for some nicer options) instead of rentals. Ordered way more than our guests used.
  • Linens: ($260)
  • Cups for drinks and early snacks: $214
Attire and Beauty
  • Hair and makeup services (on-location) were $608. That included a trial ($200), tip, gas costs, and bridal hair and makeup ($300). On-location hair and makeup can get steep for just the bride. Most quotes were over $550 for a similar package, so I went with my first choice.
  • Dress $732 Ordered my dress from a shop I found on Etsy. They had an option to send in measurements and have the dress made to measure. I did not do any alterations.
  • Additional costs ($429) Steaming, jewelry, shoes, undergarments, veil. Left my veil in the room. In retrospect, I would have skipped buying a veil.
  • Groom's Outfit: My partner wore a suit he already owned, but we got it tailored. He also got a new dress shirt and pair of shoes from DSW.
  • DSW shoes $59 Bonobos shirt : $91 Tailoring: $80
Flowers and Decor:
Florist ($225): Bridal bouquet, bouts for the groom, FOB, and FOG, corsages for our mothers, and a complimentary toss bouquet. (My partner and I actually opted not to have a bouquet toss, but used it as decor.) We went with a newbie that I found on a Facebook group. She graciously delivered the order to our venue.
Other Decor (~$1395):
  • Plants that we purchased ($625): We did houseplants instead of flowers for our decor.
  • Succulents were one of the main features, and we ordered them in bulk from Etsy ($370). 240 2" inch succulents and 20 4" inch succulents.
Our guests seemed to really like the plants, and we gave them away as gifts, letting people take whatever they wanted.
My MIL generously purchased some plants for us, too. I asked my (now) brother in law's partner for help with ideas for making our event look nice and she ordered a lot of decor. I honestly don't know how much this cost.
  • Other decor including random pieces including table numbers, easels, decorative rocks, dried petals for the aisles, glasses from Goodwill and so forth. We displayed photos of our baby with gifts that guests had given her, lanterns.
  • My FIL built an arch for us. The materials for this cost ~$150. We also got faux greenery garlands and curtains to decorate it. ($134)
Things add up! We likely could have been more strategic and saved costs.
Photos and Video:
Photographer: $2880 6 hours of coverage with an engagement session. (No second shooter.)
https://ravenshutleystudios.com/davidson-arabia-mountain-engagement-session/
Videographer: $2750 for one videographer with 6 hours of coverage. A highlight film of around 5-6 minutes. (Additional $192 sales tax to be paid when we receive the video.) Yes, this is a splurge!

Entertainment
  • DJ $1596 Both ceremony and reception. My partner and I have niche tastes. We got a much livelier dance floor than we thought we would and we were happy with the music played. Ultimately, we were very pleased with our DJ!
  • Photobooth $699 we went with a photobooth that printed strips, an attendant, etc. Definitely splurged here. Big hit with our guests!
Stationary
$403
  • $50 for digital Save the Dates and Invitations from Paperless Post
  • $41 for paper invitations with the Paperless Post/Paper Source partnership
  • $44 misc. costs (nice envelopes, metallic pens)
  • $34 postage for paper invitations and thank you cards.
  • $99 DIY thank you cards
  • $154 Signs Seating chart, menu, bar menu printed at Staples with Etsy templates ($125), small signs from Minted ($29).
We went with digital save the dates and invitations. One concern was if they would reach all of our guests. To address that, we ordered 20 paper invitations for people who are not as comfortable with digital communication, keepsakes, and our parents.
Ceremony
One of my friends officiated. He was the leader of a secular community group. I offered him $150 and a $250 donation to the group. That approaches the price tag of professional officiants. Perhaps, I could have offered less, but I loved the group. He joined us for rehearsal and crushed it on the day of!
Our rings were from shops on Etsy. The ring he bought for me cost $185, and the band for him cost $59.
Misc.
  • $430 for setup and tear down help. We paid a friend of a friend to help with set up and he was awesome! Also, hired a mover to bring things to and from our venue.
  • $574 Other expenses (lunch on the wedding day, guest book, cake stand, cake server, specialty hair clips, card box, duck food, kids' activities, glow sticks etc.)
Tips (edit: These were not the only tips for our vendors, just the tips handed out on the day of. Other costs listed above included gratuity for drop catering (20% ) , servers (25%) , bartender (25% ) , set up and tear down help, HMUA ($40) )
$290
I really admire a lot of the budget brides out there. They put together such beautiful events with hard work, craftiness, and care. We opted for some pretty expensive services (HMUA, videography, photography, photobooth, DJ), and I found value in what these pros added, so far. (I have not received my video yet!). The total number does sting a little, especially because the median wedding cost used to be $15K to $20K, but some of our splurges were for priorities or our guests' entertainment, things we cared about. Also, we did not incur any wedding debt, brought a house and our financial picture did not ruined.
