Winter 2024/25 Southern US

2024.05.23 13:15 drewdtobin Winter 2024/25 Southern US

Hello everyone! I just joined this sub.
My family and I have a Keystone Sprinter Bunkhouse. I own a seasonal restaurant and we hate NY winters. We’ve been all over the US and we’ve decided to take a trip after I shut the restaurant down in November. We’re planning on being gone until probably April 1 and we want to do a lot of hiking, fishing, exploring and EATING!
Our rough plans are as follows
Upstate NY-Nashville TN
Nashville TN-Baton Rouge LA
Baton Rouge LA- Austin TX
Austin TX- Phoenix AZ
Phoenix AZ- Palm Springs CA
Palm Springs CA- San Diego CA
San Diego CA- Las Vegas NV
Las Vegas- Clearwater FL
Clearwater FL- Key Largo FL
Key Largo- Home
This is what we’ve been able to roughly etch out so far.
Does anyone have any suggestion on routes to take? Any cannot miss places, restaurants, towns etc?
Any suggestions on avoiding high altitude weather so we don’t freeze up.
Thank you!!!

2024.05.23 10:10 coconuttruk How do I make this pollo asado?

How do I make this pollo asado?
This is my favorite pollo asado but I have never tasted another like it. I have tried SO MANY Mexican restaurants and nothing is nearly as good. Unfortunately it is a 12 hour drive from where I live. I’m seriously considering moving just for this meal because I’m really picky about food but learning how to make it would seem like the better option!
About the chicken: It’s orange in appearance and I can see small bits of red pepper or chili. It’s from a restaurant called Jalisco so I assume it’s from that region. I’ve tried other Jalisco style pollo asada but none have this much flavor!

2024.05.23 08:48 Fun_Common7525 My Vandercrawl + SAH Debut + SEEING 5 CAST MEMBERS!!!!

Hello beautiful pumpaholics. Today I went on a Vandercrawl post SAH debut. Here are my thoughts:
Something About Her: Went today at 2:40pm the line was pretty long. At around 3 (they close at 4) Ariana and Katie came out saying that there were no more sandwiches left and we essentially were not allowed to come inside. In order to make up for it, they went through the entire line, met each fan, and took a photo with them. We were all so touched, and they were having really genuine conversations with people. When it was my turn to talk to them, it was clear they were very tired they had been there since opening having to talk to people all day. They were nice, polite, I tried to talk to Katie a bit more but me and my friends are all very young and I think they were a little weirded out LOL. Our interaction was brief. Ariana was so petite in real life!! Katie looked absolutely beautiful and HER MOM TERI WAS THERE. We also saw Ariana's friend Logan Cochran (guy who broke penis flute).
SUR: Went at 5 IDK why people say SUR is outdated it was absolutely beautiful ambience. The food was alright, we got a gnocchi, and a couple of salads. Nothing to write home about and def overpriced. Servers were nice and surreal vibes all around. (Lowkey janky ahh bathroom for such a nice restaurant)
TomTom: Went right after solely to check it out and get the Goat Cheese Balls (6.5/10). Saw LOGAN COCHRAN AGAIN. But this time he was greeting the employees and what weirded us out.... he got behind the bar and started making drinks for himself and his friend. Ik ik he's a friend of the employees I'm sure it was normal, but like dude did not wash his hands and was behind the bar for a good 10 mins. it grossed me out idk. When we were leaving Logan and his friend (salt and pepper hair, tall, prob gay) turned their bodies around a full 180 to look at us and kind of gave us a weird look. This could've been us overthinking... my friends and i are so dramatic LMFAO. Im sure he's a rly nice guy but both of them turning around to look at us for a solid 3 seconds was weird.
Schwartz and Sandys: SO DEPRESSING JESUS. but.... saw MAX!! There were only like 5 people in the whole restaurant, and the hostess told us we can sit anywhere and move about bc they had no reservations for the day :( Max (Schwartz's bestie and the guy Katie fucked, also in the show) was approached by a fan who was asking where Schwartz was (he had posted the lounge on his story earlier). Max said Schwartz came by earlier and is usually here on Wednesday nights, he just dipped out early today to see his girlfriend. He also said Schwartz should be there this Saturday... Did not try any food and left after 3 mins.
Jax's Studio City Bar: Ok so my friend and I were walking up to the bar when all of a sudden right next to us a guy in a golf cart parks on the street. The guy is fricking JAX TAYLOR IN THE INFAMOUS GOLF CART. My friend and I are basically 2 feet away from him, we exchange eye contact with him. Lowkey there was a moment of hesitation from both of us and my friend claims he looked me up and down but we are also both delusional. Before we could go up to him he ran into the bar next door. My friend and I were so shaken.. incredibly surreal. We went into Jax's bar for about 4 mins thinking he would come inside and we could talk to him there. When he did not show up we left and saw his golf cart was gone. One of the waiters from the bar next door came up to us and asked if we were looking for Jax. Apparently he had just left when we came out. Then the waiter tells us it's okay because he was really drunk anyways. Which begs the question why was he driving?? Also side note as someone who is aware of how terrible Jax is, the man was so FINE in person. Truly so hot. Also so sad I did not go up to him bc I would have 10000% gone back to his Valley home with him.
The end.

2024.05.23 08:08 Rapidousername [BOATS] People are taking/ stealing money from my parents business and it’s destroying my family

I’m fourteen (f), and I’ve just heard my mother talk about our financial situation to my older, adult, sibling. It’s quite a long story, I hope people can listen through. So, my parents own a local Mexican restaurant, it’s a bit dinky, but luckily, people seemed to adore it. A few years ago we were bringing in 1-4k a day, which was amazing for our family. My mother and father, once being poor immigrants, were ecstatic that they were doing so well and our family was the happiest it’s ever been. However, things went down hill at some point.
( Read this part if you’d like) ——- (When I was younger, I remember going shopping with my mother practically every week, but when I turned 13, that stopped. Instead, we would go to parks, get ice cream, cook together, ect. No new clothes, backpacks for school, or new notebooks. I didn’t mind, I was still happy, I love spending time with my mother! But, I knew something was wrong, seeing her bubblyiness slowly fade away, seeing her torn eyes when I offered for us to go get new school supplies for the year. I stopped offering for us to go out shopping, instead I would excitedly as I could tell my mom that I loved going to park and that we should go because I preferred that instead! She would light up and take me every time without fail. For the past year I’ve gotten used to “ loving walking” and “ loving to cook” despite the fact I find both activities meh, I wanted my mom to be happy and I still loved spending time with her. —————
Bringing us to today, I was in my room when I heard my older brother come to visit us. I stayed in my room to watch my show though. Then I heard my mothers distressed voice as she was deep in conversation, I was curious so I paused my show and peeped out my bedroom door. ( the conversation was in Spanish but here’s the run down as I’m not that good at translating some words)
“ Something’s wrong. We’re making 200 dollars a day. I can’t afford to pay off everything. The f*kig workers are most definitely stealing from us. How can we have the same amount of customers as before but be bringing in a tenth of the money. Your father gave some of the workers the passwords for our machines, in the machines they can erase things and do as they like, those f’ers and stealing without a doubt. Why isn’t my husband correcting them? He just stays home and drinks all day. He practically gave the workers the keys to the restaurant at some point, why!? I’m too busy with nursing school to manage the restaurant. He keeps sending money we don’t have to relatives in Mexico. We can’t afford to pay the bills for our house, the restaurant, and the workers at this rate, he’s drooling through our money. I’m going to finish school no matter what, and if he doesn’t set this right I’m divorcing him and taking my daughter ( me) with me, because we’re going to lose the house at this rate.”
My father started the restaurant with help from my mom, and the second she leaves to pursue her dreams at school he bankrupts us by leaving it to run with fat-like employees stealing from us. My father is naive and too nice “ to suspect that anyone would steal from us. So he just blamed everything on COVID and kept drinking at home.
I shut my door and just began to sob. I didn’t want my family to fall apart. The thought of my mother losing everything she’s worked for hurts me. Everything, financially, made sense. The next few months, unless things magically get better, will change my life forever and I’m so scared. The legal process, losing my home, everything. Despite, loving my father, and him being good to me, I hate him, I hate him for dragging my mother down like this and ruining our family. And I hate the workers stealing from my family just because nobodies watching them. I just want to see my mother flourish like I know she can, being the smart woman she is. I know things will be ok, and I want to support my mom and be by her side, but I’m still scared.
I’m ranting after just hearing about this, I wanted to write it down, so I did it here ig. I don’t know what to do right now, and I’ve never wanted money more in my life. I don’t know how to emotionally deal with this, because all I can do is wait for parents divorce to happen. Any advice ?That’s it.

2024.05.23 07:50 DOMINEUMBRAM Mexican scammers calling restaurants all over California?

Hello all. I'm a Mexican American man living in the United States and throughout my time working in restaurants (from corporate to family owned) and I've been noticing an uptick in scam calls coming out of of México involving weird UPS or other delivery service related scams.
I don't know how they work but I absolutely love fucking with the callers because they don't expect it. I just wonder how the scam works and why does México have a hand in restaurant scams.
Nigeria's territory seems to be romance scams, India seems to have reign over tech support scams. How do the restaurant scams work? It's not so straightforward.
They call asking to speak to the manager or someone who speaks Spanish and then make you write down a delivery confirmation code. I never follow through but instead mess with them.
I usually tell them the manager is a woman named Melania who we call "Mela" for short. Once they want to talk to the manager I usually pass the phone to a female coworker who speaks Spanish and halfway into their conversation I interrupt. Asking if they are speaking to "Mela" and I'll end it with
"Pues me la pelas"
Meaning "Well you can suck it then."
It's a stupid pun but setting up my manager's name as Melania ends with the satisfying punchline.
I'm very drunk rn. Anyway has anyone gotten a call like this, and how do these scams?

2024.05.23 05:22 PinkPuppyPrincess Screaming.

I took my almost 1 year old to a Mexican restaurant today. I should be embarrassed, because she made a huge mess and screamed the entire time we were there. I don’t mean cry, but the place had a slight echo and she sounded like a dinosaur off Jurassic park. I tried to tell her to shhhh and distract her but apparently, it was just the funniest thing to scream. We were there for a HOUR. I’m to the point where I’m so tired that I don’t even care. I just cleaned up her mess, asked for a broom, paid and left. I should be embarrassed but honestly I don’t even care anymore. I’m happy I didn’t have to make dinner. I’m writing this because I remember being so scared to have my child cry in public and myself look like a bad parent, so I never thought I’d get to this point. But here we are, terrorizing the local Mexican restaurant. We will be back in a few weeks to do it again and practice being quiet.

2024.05.23 05:05 PresentationKind9090 I hate my job.

Literally, I can't take it anymore. They are a Mexican restaurant that just opened in my town. I needed a job very baldy and this is my first ever job. They literally suck. The husband is mean to me and my sister since we the ones that pretty much only speak English well. The other employees speak Spanish, so the wife has to talk to them. The wife is nice but the husband.... He called me and my sister stupid. He yelled at me, and my sister called us slow and other names. I cried, lol. The wife just stands there, and I can only feel bad for her. He got mad at her and screamed her for FEEDING Their kid. He grabbed her so tight and yelled at her verbally abusing her. I can't imagine how he treats her when they go outside to agrue. It is sad. I hate it there. He also treats his wife's mom so bad that she doesn't know English that much, and he got mad at her for not understanding or not explaining well. He has also made my co-worker pay a walkout. It was 200+$ we make 20$ or maybe 40$ that's it we don't make a lot but on tips it's around only 100 or sometimes just 40. Anyways I hate it when he comes to work. He took away our free shift meals, lol.
Today, the wife told me and my sister to go to the back to show us the ice tea machine. we in the back. We can't see for crap over there what's going at front I assumed jt wouldn't take that long it did take a while maybe 20 or more min but she then told my sister to take this spicy sauce to the walking freezer so she did. That's when me and the wife realized that 2 people came in I grabbed chips and salsa I came out and saw 2 other people and was so confused since I never saw them before I could go to them they stood up and left angry and said they don't want to eat here anymore. The wife said, "Don't make it happen again like??? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THEY CAME IN. they sat themselves down by themselves. The husband saw that and got PISSED. After we were done with work he clocked me out I had to pay for my shift meal ofc (my sisters order was with mine and he took it off and transferred it to his acc) they took my sister away and talked to her. They made her sign a warning that stated she failed to do her job which was take care of the people that walked out while we were on the walk where we can't see for crap and his wife was talking to us. They made her sigh it and told her next mistake she gets fired. He told her he could SUPER mad bu, he won't be this time bit we was PISSED and was yelling. Ny sister doesn't like it there anymore and I don't too. They also make us bring alchol out like margaritas or beer out ti the costumers we are minors lolre . I'm e can't. Shout out to kansas 🫶🏼🩷💀

2024.05.23 03:08 aintgoinbacknforth 'Sandwich Unique Restaurant: Inside the Opening Day of Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney’s Something About Her'

Nice write-up for Something About Her! There are also some pictures of the sandwiches included, and it seems like as many suspected, the offerings at the soft openings were sample-sized. I think the presentation looks great.
https://la.eater.com/2024/5/22/24162723/something-about-her-ariana-madix-katie-maloney-sandwich-shop-opening-los-angeles-vanderpump-rules
"The menu: The sandwiches are named after famous women in film and are priced between $14 and $19. Each sandwich is generously portioned and served with a pickle spear and a bunch of grapes on an aluminum tray.
The Meg, which comes with a Greek salad, tzatziki, feta, sun-dried tomatoes, and romaine lettuce on lavash, is refreshing — the crisp greens contrast nicely with the tzatziki’s tang. The baguette on the Diane is a bit tough, but its Sicilian tuna salad is serviceable and makes the extra effort to tear off a bite worthwhile.
The Cameron is a bona fide Italian sandwich with pesto garlic aioli, salami, soppressata, mortadella, and roasted red peppers. Taking a bite requires almost unhinging one’s jaw. The Viola, a smoked turkey and chipotle mayo panini on grilled sourdough, is a favorite with its spicy-rich profile."

2024.05.23 02:50 MissSugar77 Brooklyn Birthday Dinner Spots

Help a bitch out with some Chinese or Mexican restaurants that would be nice for a birthday dinner on a weeknight. I’d prefer it be located in Brooklyn.
It will just be me and the birthday person so a nice dimly lit, date night atmosphere would be perfect.
Nothing too casual or unreasonably expensive. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

2024.05.23 01:24 KMK1994_ What could I be allergic to?

At the beginning of May I went out to lunch with family and got a chicken pasta dish with a lemony garlic sauce & I also took a bite out of a cornbread skillet dish. All tasted great but on the drive home (about an hour after) I started getting a really bad stomach pain. I knew I needed to get to a bathroom ASAP. Once we got home, I ran in and went to the restroom and had horrible diarrhea (sorry TMI). All of a sudden I started to feel my bottom right lip feel like it was getting fat. I thought it was weird but was like okay whatever. When I got out of bathroom, I felt my ears get itchy so I got some benadryl. I could feel itchiness in my throat but nothing crazy. TBH though it freaked me out because I didn’t know what was going on. My anxiety took over that night but I somehow just forgot about it and thought it was a fluky thing. Well last Friday, I went out to Mexican food. I had chips, salsa, 1 enchilada with red sauce, 1 ground beef taco, rice, and sour cream. At the restaurant I started feeling my tummy hurt but I kind of thought it was just because I just ate Mexican food. On the drive home though I knew I needed a restroom. When we got back home, I ran to bathroom and had diarrhea again! Then my ears got itchy and so did my throat. Nothing crazy again but still scared me. I took Benadryl and all was fine. However, now I don’t even want to eat anymore. I have an appointment on June 6th to start allergy testing but I don’t know what to do during this 2 week wait.
What would you do during this waiting period? I’m so scared to eat anything now because I don’t want it happening again and being severe. Maybe it’s just a mild allergy, but I already have anxiety and this is making it 10x worse.
Just some extras: I had a baby in February so my hormones are still out of wack
Could it be a corn allergy? I’ve always ate corn but I’m wondering if this is what it is.
Maybe shellfish if the restaurant cooked on same pan?
This has never happened before!

2024.05.23 01:17 The_Rogue_Wolf Food anxiety, or something else? Long post

Hello! I (22)F have been having some stomach issues since mid March. It all started when I ate some queso that probably wasn't too safe to eat. I woke up at midnight that night with severe nausea and diarrhea. I never threw up. The day after I ate the queso, my boyfriend and I left to go on a vacation. The day we left, I got a headache from the flight and we had to go and get nausea pills after we landed as I was also slightly nauseous as well. I was able to eat dinner that night and drink without problems, as I took a pill before we went to dinner.
The 2nd day of vacation I was totally fine. The 3rd day, we ate at this shady Mexican place and my boyfriend told me after we ate that he thought the chicken felt like it wasn't cooked all the way, but he didn't say anything as I ate all of it! I felt fine that night.
4th day of vacation, we were in Vegas. Had some drinks before dinner and was a little tipsy. Ate at this fancy restaurant and everything was delicious. I woke up that night with severe nausea and severe diarrhea. I couldn't get off the toilet for 5 hours. I sat there praying I'd throw up and I never did.
The rest of vacation was terrible after that night. I woke up after finally being able to go to sleep, ate a breakfast croissant and was fine. Dinner came for the 5th night of vacation, and I was only able to eat my French onion soup before I was rushing to the bathroom as my stomach hurt so bad and my nausea was back. My boyfriend had to eat dinner alone. That night, I felt so bad and was so nauseous that we took an Uber to an urgent care where I got some antibiotics and anti-nausea meds. For the rest of our vacation, I'd only be able to eat breakfast, and my stomach would feel absolutely terrible at dinner time. It's worth noting that I ate steak every time we went out to eat in vegas (day 4-7), but I only got 1 bite in before running to the bathroom.
After getting home, I was fine for a week after vacation and I had another "episode" after eating mexican food and ended up going to the ER the next day where I was told nothing is wrong with me. Had a ct scan, blood tests, and urine. Told me to go to a pcp if it keeps happening (I didn't have one at the time). My new pcp put me on a medicine that reduces the acid in my stomach, but before I eat, during, and after I eat, I feel queasy and my stomach makes so many noises to where i know its not normal as its never been this active. It takes me over an hour to eat a small meal as I also have to use the bathroom during eating.
Is this some type of food anxiety, or is there actually something going on? I do get very scared that I will get the same feeling I experienced in vegas, but I'm starting to forget about it as it's been over 2 months. I just want this to go away.
Thanks!
TLDR: nausea and diarrhea started during vacation 2 months ago and was slighty traumatizing. Still struggling to eat meals even though told nothing is wrong.
P.S: First time posting so I'm sorry if I messed anything up or posted in the wrong place!!

What Is The Best Time Of Year To Visit These Countries?
When it comes to planning the perfect vacation, timing is everything. Knowing the best time of year to visit certain countries can make or break your trip. Whether you're looking for a budget-friendly getaway or a luxurious escape, understanding when each country's peak season starts and ends will help you plan accordingly. Here are three key points to consider when choosing when to travel:
Weather conditions - Depending on where you’re going, the weather has a huge impact on the quality of your experience. For instance, if you’re visiting somewhere in Europe during wintertime, be sure that your destination isn’t prone to heavy snowfall or icy temperatures. On the other hand, if your destination is known for its hot climate, try booking your trip after the rainy season has ended so that you don’t miss out on all the fun!
Flight prices - Being aware of airlines' seasonal pricing structure can save you hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars off your total cost. Similarly, keep an eye out for any holiday discounts offered by carriers as these specials usually pop up around major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. By doing some research beforehand, you'll be able to find great deals throughout the year!
Local events - Taking part in cultural celebrations and local festivals can add a unique touch to your travels abroad. Be sure to check with tourist information offices and regional websites before booking anything – this way, no matter what month you decide to go away, there’s always something new waiting just around the corner!
No matter what type of traveler you are – whether solo adventurer or family explorer – taking into account these three factors allows for maximum enjoyment while also keeping costs down at the same time. What Is The Cost Of Accommodation In Each Of These Countries?
Planning a trip abroad doesn't have to break the bank. But it's essential for travelers to know what kind of accommodation costs they can expect in their destination country. This article will discuss three key questions about cost of accommodation in each of these countries:
What type of lodging is available?
How much should you plan to spend?
Are there any budget-friendly options?
When traveling, having different types of accommodations makes all the difference. Hotels and hostels are classic options that many people choose when staying in a foreign land. Most hotels offer amenities like onsite restaurants, pools, and fitness centers that make your stay more enjoyable. Hostels provide basic bunk beds or private rooms with shared bathrooms at an affordable rate - perfect for saving money while still experiencing the sights and sounds of a new place!
The amount you'll pay for your stay depends largely on where you choose to rest your head. For example, luxury hotel suites may set you back hundreds of dollars per night, whereas hostel dorms typically range from $10-$25 USD depending on the location. There are also budget-friendly alternatives such as Airbnb apartments which often come with benefits like free WiFi, kitchenettes, and other must-have features - making them especially attractive to those looking to save some cash.
No matter what type of traveler you are - whether looking for something luxurious or just wanting to experience something new without breaking the bank - understanding the cost associated with accommodation options is key to planning an unforgettable journey abroad! What Are The Visa Requirements For Entry Into Each Of These Countries?
When planning a trip, it's important to know the visa requirements for entry into each country. Depending on your nationality and purpose of travel, you may need to obtain a visa in advance or at the border prior to your arrival. This can be particularly tricky if traveling to multiple countries since some countries have stricter regulations than others.
If you're from a country with diplomatic relations with a particular nation, chances are you don't need any special documents or visas before entering that country. However, this is not always the case - especially when it comes to emerging nations that tend to have more relaxed rules about travel. For example, citizens of European Union member states do not require visas for most destinations around the world. But if you're traveling outside Europe or beyond certain destinations within Europe, then obtaining an appropriate visa will become essential before making any arrangements with hotels and airline bookings.
In order to make sure all goes smoothly during your travels abroad, research ahead of time what type of visas you'll need depending on where you plan to go and how long you intend to stay there. It's best to check out official government websites as they often contain updated information regarding their policies toward travelers from different parts of the globe. Additionally, there might be additional steps required such as medical examinations or other forms of documentation depending on your destination so prepare everything beforehand in order to avoid any hassles along the way!
No matter which part of the world you choose for your next adventure, being well-informed about its corresponding visa requirements will help ensure smooth sailing throughout your journey!
