Abstract
Background: Liver cirrhosis is an essential public health concern in Egypt. Platelet indices (PIs) are parameters routinely obtained as a part of a complete blood count. They are evolving as novel biomarkers of diagnostic and prognostic significance in hepatic disorders. Aim: A prospective study was planned to detect the diagnostic and prognostic potentials of Platelet indices (PIs) in cirrhotic individuals and hepatocellular carcinoma patients. Materials and Methods: 250 subjects participated in the study. Among them, 200 were diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and further classified into four groups: Groups I, II, and III: Each consists of 50 patients Child-Pugh A, B, C respectively, Group IV: 50 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and 50 healthy subjects as control Group V. Detection of PIs was done by Sysmex XT-1800i automated hematology analyzer. Results: The mean platelet volume (MPV)value is positively correlated with INR and plasma bilirubin and negatively correlated with plasma albumin in all three groups of cirrhotic individuals without HCC.MPV showed a significant elevation in cases with more severe liver disease based on MELD and Child scores. MPV in HCC patients was positively related to tumor size, child score, BCLC, and PV thrombosis but had no statistical significance. Plateletcrit (PCT) exhibited significant differences between different cirrhotic Child groups. Platelet distribution width (PDW) levels were significantly elevated in patients compared to healthy subjects, yet there was a non-significant difference in its value among patients. Conclusions: Platelet indices might be utilized as progression and risk stratification markers in cirrhotic individuals.

The Kia EV3 debuted today and most preview articles mention that infotainment system in that car will get an update that allows Netflix, YouTube, and video games to be streamed on the screen. Given it looks like the infotainment system in that car is the same in the EV9 (CCnC) I would think this update would also come to the EV9. Does anyone know for sure?

It feels like every post about Downtown is met by a wave of people saying that Downtown is dead or Downtown is a dump, etc. etc.
Downtowns have historically been occupied by businesses in the day and bars at night, ours included. That's why we have so many one ways (quick pick up / drop off) and so, SO many bars. This is changing everywhere, not just here. With the rise of work from home and a focus on less car-centric infrastructure people want to find a way to use all this urban space that's not just people driving in from the suburbs to go to offices and bars.
As someone who lived downtown from 2019 to 2023 I'm thrilled by the changes I'm seeing. Even before the pandemic and on the back end when things were returning to whatever the new normal is, downtown was always incredibly dead during the weekend days because businesses only stayed open during the week for office workers. This sucks. It was also impossible to do anything at night besides the bars because that atmosphere dominates the space. I want a livable downtown.
So here's some changes I've already seen that have made that better:

• The entire newer neighborhood SE of Eola has stood up. Boatloads of new highrise mixed use apartments with restaurants and retail.
• The Orlando Urban Trail (a bike / walking trail) now runs all the way through downtown and gives people a nice safe place to move along the Orange Ave corridor, especially in North Quarter.
• Speaking of North Quarter, that whole area is hitting its stride. Lots of apartments and businesses there have made it good connective tissues between the Downtown core and the excellent Ivanhoe Village area.
• ACE Cafe is gone. ACE Cafe was an absolute noise pollution monster with bike nights, other car nights, and concerts every other weekend. It's a fun business with a lot of character but it doesn't belong anywhere near where people are living. For people who loved it, it was recently announced that it's moving to Sanford so maybe it'll be better positioned there.
• There are more and more bike lanes springing up throughout the city. This helps improve safety for all the bikes and scooters and make them a more viable way to get around what is otherwise a fairly flat and small downtown (where they would be ideal).
• Society Orlando, an absolute behemoth of a building, that supports property-management roommate setups as well as regular apartment living is now open. It's got a huge area that's meant to be dedicated to a shared foodcourt space that I imagine is also filling in (I moved out of the area before it opened so I don't know how that's going).
• Dr Phillips has its huge new lawn area where interesting events are occasionally held, this is good for the variety of things going on and prevents everything needing to close down roads to happen.
• Creative Village is slowly but surely coming together, adding a bunch of new housing, retail, hotels, and businesses with a connection to some of UCF and Valencia. Great opportunity for students if it lives up to its expectations.
• While it's taken a comedically long time, the under I4 project is still coming together which should create an interesting space to hangout and also hold events which will use our huge amount of otherwise low-desirability space for something besides just parking lots.
• A huge new mixed use development is planned next to the KIA center which will help link that sports district to the Creative Village area and make the other side of the I4 less sporadic.
• Finally, with the Sunrail transferred from FDOT to the local cities, the possibility of full week service and service to connect to the Brightline are both open. Things that are absolutely necessary for it to become anything besides weak commuter rail.

I constantly see people say there's no plan and no point but I entirely disagree. All of these together will continue to make Downtown a better place to live, shop, eat, and get around outside your car. This is a great change for anyone remotely interested in urbanism. If you just want a place to do bar crawls I'm sure that'll still be plenty possible (maybe even safer with the Sunrail) and if you don't like the vibe Mills, Ivanhoe, and a bunch other parts of the greater Orlando area will be happy to provide additional bars.

You already have dated your new partner for exactly one year and they are the best person you have ever had in your life. Throughout all the time, there’s never any signs of them having anything demonic in their lives. But you never have slept or stayed at their house for the night. Finally, one day y’all get to buy a new house for each other that seems lovely and wholesome. Seven days passes and nothing bad happens, then you guys start hearing a bunch of creaks and loud noises in the walls at night, but the both of you never know what it is. Until one night, there’s a loud growling noise coming inside y’all’s bedroom that wakes you guys up at 3am. It’s not like an animal growl, it sounds like a growl of an old man that has lived for so many years.
Throughout all of this, you guys still never moved out of the house. A month passes and everything start to become quite and more normal. You guys try to brush off all of what you heard, trying to deny that it actually happened without actually saying it. Later, on a Saturday morning you pick up a letter (that came in the mail) stating it’s from an old friend of your partner. The letter states that whatever that person and your partner did when they was kids, has come back to get them. The letter also states that the old friend’s family, they’re all dead now. (You never find out about this, but the only reason that your new house didn’t seem haunted anymore is because throughout that time, the entity went and killed the old friend’s (from the letter) family and it’s about to kill the old friend too now).
You show the letter to your partner and they deny any connection or any knowledge of such letter. You try to bring up the disturbances that were happening but your partner mentions how it could be that someone is trying to mess with you guys. No matter how much you press your partner in to revealing the truth, they deny everything and blame you for going psycho. You decide to play it cool and not mention it anymore, for now.
Four days pass since you opened that letter. In that time that passed, the old friend that sent the letter died. While you’re asleep, you partner sees a news article of their old friend saying that they was brutally murdered one night, the old friend’s body was found mutilated and bended in ways that shouldn’t be possible. Your partner gets scared but decides to never tell you. The next day comes and you start seeing shadows and hearing footsteps since from the moment you wake up. It’s not your partner doing that because they are outside talking to a neighbor. You brush it off and think you are hallucinating. Both of y’all’s day go as normal until when midnight comes. Your partner falls asleep before you and you start hearing growling noises for the first time again in a long time, but this time is sounds like it’s more than one person doing it. You wake up your partner but they act as if they didn’t hear anything and go back to sleep. You go out of the room to inspect, and suddenly a power outage happens. And it starts to rain heavily with thunder happening a lot, your partner never decides to get out of the bed. You suddenly start seeing your shadow appear in the wall in front of you because of the thunder that’s happening outside. But then all of a sudden, a taller and more muscular shadow appears next to your shadow on the wall. You look behind you towards the window but then see nothing. You stare at the sky for a bit and when you decide to turn back around, your right leg is completely struck (like if you were hit hard with a baseball bat) and your left leg gets stabbed with what appears to be a kitchen knife. You start wheezing and screaming on the floor. And just then, a big and dark figure slowly comes towards you growling but then all of a sudden the lights come back on and it’s your partner coming towards you instead of a dark figure. Your partner is stressfully asking you if you are ok and what happened. You can’t really speak, so you just focus on alleviating the pain.
The next day comes and you limpingly walk outside of the house and you see that same neighbor that your partner was talking to before. The neighbor doesn’t tell you anything for a while, it’s just starting at you with a confused face. You walk up to them and they tell you that “you are in danger and you need some questions answered, it appears”. They take you into their house and you see that their house’s walls is decorated as if someone that collects a lot of unusual things. The neighbor starts to make some coffee for both of y’all and tells you that they started to suspect something was wrong when they first talked with your partner some time ago. The neighbor tells you that they are a medium/phychic and that they can probably help you find the answers that you need.
You and the neighbor then sit at a specific table in the neighbor’s house and hold hands. The neighbor starts reciting some things and then you can see the neighbor twitching and making distraught noises. The neighbor tells you that they could see two young people with one of them that looks like your partner. Your partner and the friend appears to have made a pact with the devil to succeed in something. Then the neighbor starts having a vision of seeing your partner throughout their lives before you, being followed by an entity for years. The neighbor can then see your partner’s old friend being killed and could see you being hurt that one night and you partner coming to your aid. The neighbor afterwards gets a vision that they never tell you about, but just only tell you that the evil spirit never cared about you but since you stayed with you partner for too long, it will kill you too. Your neighbor tells you too, that the spirit tried warning you to leave your partner before but you never listened, so it wants you dead too now. Finally, neighbor tells you that the entity could give you one last chance but you have to leave your partner before it becomes midnight that day.

Israel Katz: “I've instructed the immediate recall of Israel’s ambassadors... in light of these countries' decisions to recognize a Palestinian state."
Israel recalled its ambassadors from Ireland, Spain, and Norway on Wednesday to protest the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state by those countries, warning it would not stand idly by while they reward terrorism. “This would be a terrorist state. It will try to repeat the massacre of October 7 again and again; we will not consent to this,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
“This evil can not be given a state,” he added in a video message issued hours after his counterparts from those three nations issued coordinated messages in favor of a Palestinian statehood from their capitals, a recognition that will go into effect on May 28. The European leaders argued that such a step was necessary, given the absence of a peace process and in light of the Palestinian suffering,seven into the Gaza war.
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said, “Hamas is not the Palestinian people. Today’s decision to recognize Palestine is taken to help create a peaceful future.”
He clarified that recognition was a gesture to the Palestinian people, who had the right to self-determination. It was taken to support “a two-state solution,” which is the only way to stop “generational cycles of violence.”
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas thanked Harris for taking such a “courageous” step when the two spoke later in the day, explaining that he hoped it would inspire other countries to issue similar statements of recognition, according to the WAFA, the Palestine News Agency. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said the only possible political solution between Israelis and Palestinians was “two states living side by side in peace and security.”

Britain, Australia, and EU members Malta and Slovenia have indicated in recent months that they could soon follow suit.
Ireland, Spain, and Norway’s action came on the 229th day of the Gaza war, a conflict that has stoked anti-Israel sentiments worldwide, even though the war was sparked by Hamas’s invasion of Israel on October 7. During that attack, Hamas and other terror groups killed over 1,200 people and seized another 252 hostages, of which 128 remain in captivity.
Netanyahu and his government had opposed Palestinian statehood before the war, but the October 7 attack only hardened that position. It has warned that much like Hamas seized control of Gaza in 2007 and has used it to launch attacks against Israel, so too would terrorists rule a Palestinian entity in the West Bank.
It has argued that the PA already supports terror and the destruction of Israel and can not, therefore, be a partner for peace. 'A message to the Palestinians and the world' Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote on X during a visit to Paris that “Israel will not remain silent in the face of those undermining its sovereignty and endangering its security.” “Today’s decision sends a message to the Palestinians and the world: Terrorism pays,” Katz wrote.
Israel fears that other Western countries could follow suit and that such steps help give Hamas a sense that international sympathy is with them, further complicating efforts to secure a hostage deal for the remaining 128 captives.
“This distorted step by these countries is an injustice to the memory of the victims of 7/10, a blow to efforts to return the 128 hostages, and a boost to Hamas and Iran’s jihadists, which undermines the chance for peace and questions Israel’s right to self-defense,” Katz wrote.
The Irish, Spanish, and Norwegian ambassadors have been summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Thursday for a severe reprimand, where they will be shown a video, published Wednesday of the moment five young Israeli women were taken captive from their army base in Nahal Oz. The sharp Israeli disavowals of Palestinian statehood came as Israel was under pressure to accept a two-state resolution to its conflict with the Palestinians.

President Joe Biden “has been on the record supporting a two-state solution,” US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters in Washington.
“He has been equally emphatic that a two-state solution should be brought about through direct negotiations through the parties, not through unilateral recognition,” Sullivan said.
“That’s a principal position that we have held consistently,” he said. “We believe the only way that you are going to achieve a two-state solution that delivers for both Israelis and Palestinians, is through direct negotiations between the parties. That’s what we’ve been focused on,” Sullivan said He alluded to the White House’s efforts to finalize a normalization deal between Saudi Arabia and Israel, as he explained that the two states were also part of a regional strategy to integrate Israel into the region. When pressed by a reporter, he said, he was concerned by Israel’s growing isolation on the international stage.
“As a country that stands strong in defense of Israel in international forums like the United Nations, we certainly have seen a growing chorus of voices including voices that had previously been in support of Israel drift in another direction,” Sullivan said, adding “that this is of concern to us.
“We do not believe that that contributes to Israel’s long-term security or vitality. And so that’s something that we discussed with the Israeli government,” he said.
It is for this reason, Sullivan said, that the US had urged Israel to take a more diplomatically strategic approach to defeating Hamas and providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza.

Hello everyone, I'm bringing sad news today.
You may already know that general elections have been called in the UK. Due to how elections work there, all petitions will close early, on May 30. They don't reopen. There won't be any revised response, unless the current government decides to give it before that date, which is extremely unlikely.
We are all extremely frustrated with that. It was always a possibility, but the UK volunteers (like everyone in the UK at the time) thought the election would happen later in Fall, which would have had less impact on the petition.
For now, we are debating what to do next in the UK. As always, we will let you know when a clear course of action is established. Obviously, the campaign goes on in the other countries.
You have until May 30 to sign the petition and make your voice heard on the issue. In the meantime, I leave you with some reading, with one of the campaign volunteers managing to get an article published in the Mirror (one of the very few mention of the campaign in an english mainstream media).
