2024.05.23 07:11 SpacePotter Debating a Sam's Club MasterCard

Debating getting the Sam's Club MasterCard. Currently, my family mooches off my parents membership so we pay nothing. Sam's is about ten minutes from my house so we do a lot of shopping there. We currently have two youngins so we buy formula, diapers, and wipes (heavy hitters for cost). I'd say comfortably, we spend at least $100/trip. We also get gas at Sam's whenever we can.
I feel like it's a no brainer to get a membership and credit card to take advantage of the 5% Sam's cash. My next best credit card (Redstone Federal Credit Union Signature) has a 3% for discount stores. Is there something I'm missing?
Current Cards: AMEX Delta $20k limit, AMEX Everyday $15k limit, Amazon Chase $14k limit, and REDFCU Signature $10k.

2024.05.23 05:05 m756615 Printing Money

Printing Money.
The federal government, via the @federalreserve, authorizes banks to digitally print their own money through the process known as fractional reserve banking. This is how banks get wealthier. This is also how people who understand this process and who put it into practice get wealthier personally. This is the only way to get wealthy, aside from winning the lottery or inheritance. The USD itself only exists as a measure of US debt. Without federal debt, the USD can't exist under our current financial system.
Big banks have to meet certain standards and qualifications to receive loans from the Federal government. Likewise, smaller banks and credit unions also have to meet certain standards and qualifications (credit worthiness) to receive loans from the big banks.
The equivalent of a credit score for businesses seeking lending from larger banks is often referred to as a "business credit score" or "commercial credit score." This score assesses the creditworthiness of a business entity based on its financial history, payment behavior, and other factors relevant to its ability to repay loans. Large banks use this score, along with other financial metrics and assessments, to determine whether to extend credit to a business and under what terms.
What many people don't realize is that you can be your own bank. Your name is its own legal entity in this country, and you decide, through your financial actions and lifestyle habits, how worthy you are of certain financial opportunities. The total sum of your financial habits and lifestyle are converted into a credit score that banks use to determine how good you are with managing debt. The more debt you manage successfully over a longer time, the higher your credit score. If banks view you worthy of lending you money you will see better opportunities come to you. This gives you other people's money (OPM) to use and leverage however you seem fit. The longer you successfully do this, the more debt offers and opportunities you will receive.
Banks want to lend because that is how they get to digitally print more money. The more money they digitally print the more they can make through interest payments. You can literally create your own wealth by investing in your financial literacy and being a good steward of the resources you have available to you. Your background doesn't matter. Your parents background doesn't matter. Start wherever you can and work your way up to where you want to be. Be diligent and patient. Take care of the things that need to be cared for and it will work out. As a warning, the opposite is also true.

historical aerial photo comparisons of downtown Utica?
Anybody know of comparisons done showing the land use of downtown Utica pre-1930s-50s (before cars became dominant) took over and now? I was struck by how much parking surrounded the train station on my last visit. It almost felt like it had become a 'parking crater'. More on what I'm referring to: https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2023/9/6/how-much-of-your-city-is-parking-lots
I circled all the parking and unused land around the train station, and all the large roads. Thanks in advance for any help.

O' Freedom's Song / / Roar Like Lions

CONFIDENTIAL
EXCERPT FOR REVIEW BY THE COMBINED FORCE JOINT STAFF AUTHORITY
ISSUED DATE: OCTOBER THIRTY-ONE, YEAR 2072

GIGAS Operation: Seikyo逝去 (Demise)

Objective (Primary): Liberation of Jerusalem

Objective (Secondary): Securing strategic canal lines in Mesopotamia and the Red Sea

GIGAS Council of Defense Ministers: Approved.

GIGAS Military General Council: Approved.

GIGAS Combined Force Joint Staff Authority: Activated.

AIDE Joint Command Authority: Activated.

JYNX Joint Intelligent Network: Activated.

WAR STATUS: Initiated.
Weather today fine but high waves.
Overview
With the conclusion of the Moroccan Campaign and collapse of the Caliphate's Western Front by way of the UNSC led invasion force, and with the conclusion of the Southern Campaign securing the Euphrates Canal, the GIGAS Combined Force Joint Staff Authority has approved OPERATION SEIKYO - granting the Unified Command Headquarters (via the Imperial General Headquarters) the greenlight to begin the liberation of Jerusalem. Therefore, with approval from the Supreme War Council in The Imperial Citadel, Tenkyō - the Imperial Japanese Navy has been granted permission to begin the mass bombardment of Jerusalem, and the broader Egyptian-Israeli coastline of the Caliphate. Operational command has been granted to Rear Admiral Yamamoto Mari as supported by the broader Imperial Standing Fleets under the command of Rear Admiral Ijūin Gorō.
In facilitating the broader operation, Rear Admiral Yamamoto has also been granted temporary command of the 3rd Kaiyō Kantai (Maritime Fleet) which includes; the 5th, 14th, 15th, and 16th Imperial Fleets. In addition, the Kobayashi, Yamamoto, and Sentaro Guuji (宮司)-Class Battleships alongside the Okinawa-Class Destroyer Escorts have also been assigned to the Kaiyō Kantai to aid in the bombardment of the Caliphate. Efforts will focus on the destruction of all areas with indoctrinated Caliphate radicals, while attempting to slow the broader Arab designed xenomorph mass that has been hurtling across Gaza in blind blood lust. Specifically, in order to bring the war to an end, the Imperial General Headquarters has convinced the GIGAS Council of Defense Ministers to approve "EXODUS Bombardment Contingencies" which will see the entirety of the radical-infested hellholes of Cairo, Alexandria, and Jerusalem excluding areas specifically outlined by the UNSC Defense Minister under religious pretext.
It is the objective of the GIGAS Combined Forces Joint Staff that GIGAS-aligned forces reach Jerusalem before the arrival of Bandung Pact. However, with a beachhead already established under the command of Bandung Pact Field Marshal Tshisekedi in lower Arabia, it is believed that this will be a tall order even for the Imperial General Headquarters and the requisite Imperial Marines assigned to the initial landings. It was the impression of GIGAS war-time planners, that Roman Forces would have managed to breach Eastern Constantinople long before OPERATION SEIKYO, however, they have largely been bogged down in Western Constantinople and have been unable to move even towards Ankara, let alone Jerusalem from the North. Nevertheless, divisions of the First Imperial Expeditionary Army under the command of Grand General Aguinaldo Christian are expected to make landfall before the arrival of Pact forces from the South. The First Imperial Expeditionary Army is also being assisted as necessary, by divisions of the Paradis-ethnic members of the Dageki Butai and by UNSC forces on a per-landing point basis.

"The Final Brother War has come to an end" Declares Premier Issoze.

"A fractured Caliphate now places geopolitical hegemony in the hands of the Bandung Pact."

Bandung Daily Issued August 1st, 2072 - 12:00 Mombasa, The Union of African Socialist Republics
MOMBASA - With a Bandung Pact flag flying in the background, Premier Issoze of the Union of African Socialist Republics has declared the Final Brother War over in a ceremony delivered in Jerusalem. Also seen alongside the Pact Flag and the flags of all its members, was the UNSC, Imperial Japanese, and broader GIGAS flags as both Princess Alice of Japan and Prince Valdemar of the UNSC also gave speeches to the attending audiences of diplomats, ambassadors, generals, and other important political figures. For all intents and purposes, many of the grievances that the core members of the Bandung Pact have had with the Empire of Japan had been set aside for the day, and in all reality, the last months of warfare as the joint campaign between the Bandung Pact and GIGAS played out across the Middle East and North African regions.
The Final Brother War, which others such as those in GIGAS have termed the "Second War of Deliverance" has been without question, one of the most violent in living memory. In many ways, outpacing even the other Brother Wars for both casualties, and general mass-violence. The invasion itself, much to the displeasure of some in the Presidium of the UASR and in the Nusantara League, would not have been at all possible if it wasn't for the dual efforts of both GIGAS and the Bandung Pact at large - launching a multi-front war against the heavily radicalized Caliphate under the pretense of liberating Jerusalem. As a result of this however, most experts across all nationalities of academia would agree that the war has ended in no ones particular best outcome. For the Bandung Pact, the involvement of Japan and the UNSC has seen the creation of several "rump states", with no onus on deradicalization (or in an extremely limited fashion). Involvement of the UNSC has led to a democratic Israel, independent from and under the protection of both GIGAS and the Bandung Pact at large - however, these trade-offs in the eyes of many of the most radical in the Presidium of the UASR in particular are seen as at best, deals in the dark and at worst, keeping the door open for future warfare.
In the eyes of GIGAS, the ideal scenario would have been the complete transformation of the Caliphate mirroring the ongoing "Alexandria Custodianship" which is currently a UNSC protectorate under the pretense of a semi-neutral Suez Canal. This had initially brought some protest from the Bandung Occupation Zone in the Gulf States, given the Euphrates Canal which runs through Israel, and former Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon - however, ultimately did not make a significant difference in the final peace negotiations. The negotiations themselves, ironically, have been held in Western Istanbul - through the semi-neutral arbitration of the Second Roman Republic which had also contributed a smaller yet crucial invasion force against the Turkish region of the Caliphate which ultimately led to the conquest of Western Istanbul. While GIGAS and the 2RR have both deemed these negotiations the "Constantinople Accords", those in the Pact have continued to utilize the Arabic terminology (Istanbul Accords) much to the dismay of the Second Roman Republic in particular.
Nevertheless, the final Istanbul Accords have left a sour taste in the mouths of just about everyone. Leading to the creation of "three" successor states to the Caliphate under the pretense that none of the three would theoretically be powerful enough to challenge the independence of Israel again - assuming the long term cooperation of the Pact and GIGAS. This has led to the creation of the Western Caliphate, done largely out of necessity for the broader war-effort due to the high degree of radicalization among the Caliphate population. Both GIGAS and Pact military planners believing that the only other solution to the Western Caliphate problem would have been morally impossible (at least for the Pact and the UNSC). In the center, is the Republic of Islamic Gulf States or "RIGS" commonly referred to as the Central Caliphate. The RIGS is a culmination of the increasingly more moderate population notwithstanding Turkey, and is currently under the general oversight of the Bandung Pact via the Nusantara League. Finally, largely due to increasingly impossible to deal with protest from Japan, is the creation of the Triarchy of Kings or "Eastern Caliphate" as termed by the Bandung Pact at large which saw the continued governorship of "the Slayer" alongside "newly crowned" Mesut Ozil and a to-be-crowned member from the former Mughalistan.
Outside of the core successor states, there have also been some significant territorial concessions including the conquest of Pakistan (formerly part of Mughalistan) into the Union of South Asia (India) which while advised against by both the Nusantara League and UASR, occurred at the behest of the Indian government. Alongside this, was the creation of a UASR Occupation Zone in North Africa, acting as a buffer region between the Caliphate and the UASR Republic of Kaabu, and the creation of an Bandung Pact Occupation Zone in the former Gulf States - as an anchor and Pact requirement to thwart any overt Japanese movements in the region. Finally, as part of negotiations, the Empire of Japan was given the Caliphate's overseas and island territories, while the UNSC received custodianship of Morocco and a portion of Algeria, a strategic demand by the UNSC to fully control the Gibraltar Strait. The Istanbul Accords have also brought up another major concern for the most critical of Japan within the Bandung Pact - and that is, the merit of cooperation with the Empire given current and ongoing breaches of human rights. However, the issue as of yet, has yet to surface in anything more than academia.

The Declaration of Humanity - The United Congress of the Bandung Pact

"The Bandung Pact formalizes United Congress, amidst much political squabbling over continued relations with Japan, UNSC."

Bandung Daily Issued January 1st, 2073 - 12:00 Mombasa, The Union of African Socialist Republics
MOMBASA - Despite what many experts thought was a failed venture, the Bandung Pact has surprisingly, managed to complete its creation of a Pact-wide United Congress finalizing what has been a nearly six-month long intensive negotiation session. Involving all members of the Pact and requiring unanimous decision, the United Congress nearly failed in its final creation due to the continued use of "veto through no vote" by the Houston Republic, one of the newest members of the alliance and a major proponent for the opening of relations with Japan on a much wider scale. Similar calls, surprisingly, came from the Nusantara League which has since the end of the Final Brother War, been increasingly under pressure by the Empire of Japan (ostensibly still a Nusantara ally) on a diplomatic level.
An excerpt from the commencement speech can be found below,
Excerpt from the commencement speech delivered by Yang di-Pertuan Nusantara - Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.
How far we've come; how far we'll go.
TRANSCRIPT: PAUSE FOR APPLAUSE
In the days of our predecessors, those who like us all, fought for the liberty of every man, woman, and child born, it pleases me that we now as one world, have come together once more under the banner of Humanity.
TRANSCRIPT: PAUSE FOR APPLAUSE
I am further pleased to announce, that the members; new and old, of the Bandung Pact have unanimously agreed to the proposal put forward by its membership body, heralding the commencement of the United Congress of the Pact.
TRANSCRIPT: PAUSE FOR APPLAUSE
We the downtrodden, the forgotten, and the chosen, have now seen the fall of the Imperialist of Europe. We have brought upon the liberation of Jerusalem, the return of the exiled to their homeland. Now, we must look to be the maintainers of peace across the globe, in every corner of this Earth, regardless of past disputes and in the hopes that we can move forward in harmony.
As the first proposal to be passed by the United Congress itself, the Bandung Pact congress members have elected to ratify the Declaration of Human Rights previously created by the now defunct United Nations. The move has been seen as a major push towards the reestablishment of a law-based international system, setting forth a standard of interaction for geopolitical actors. This however, has only been agreed to thus far by the actual Pact members, with the Alfr remnant states, Japan, and the UNSC all thus far declining or otherwise condemning the attempt at large. Alongside the creation of the United Congress, is the establishment of a Bandung Pact Peacekeeping Force, whose first mandate is the continued governorship of the Gulf Occupation Zone.
As of right now, the United Congress is set to meet as required through "special sessions" (ie. emergency sessions) and biannually during formal sittings of the United Congress. Some push has been made to formalize an annual sitting, however, due to the nature of the Pact this has largely been seen as unnecessary thus far.
META INFORMATION:
The United Congress will ONLY have sitting sessions (posted officially by a mod) during times when an active player requests said sitting session. There will be no default post every two weeks.
Formally, the current system is open to allowing claimants within the Bandung Pact to better define the terms of the Congress including voting power. An interim system of 1 vote per member currently exists.
To utilize Bandung Pact NPC resources, active players must hold a sitting session with a vote.

CLAIM REVEAL: THE BROTHERS AND THE PACT

The Free State of Israel / The Alexandria Custodianship

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: Claimant Decides (for Israel and Alexandria)
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
    • The Custodianship will have no immediate meta access to any UNSC characters.
  • Population: 15,435,095 (Israel) / 185,540,000 (Alexandria)
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • The Free State of Israel / The Alexandria Custodianship starts off as two fundamentally separate governments, within one claim.
    • The Alexandria Custodianship starts off with a protection assurance from the UNSC/GIGAS, with limitations.
    • The Free State of Israel has protection assurances from both the UNSC and Bandung Pact
    • The NPCs would get involved, if the two attempted to unify governments without proper buildup.
    • Israel/Alexandria both start off with access to the Caliphate technology base. (Alexandria does not have access to the UNSC technology base)
    • Alexandria has the ability to put in an NPC request to the UNSC - for military support as needed for defense via UNSC Cyprus.
    • You have been made free, celebrate your liberation.
Things to Consider
The Free State of Israel/Alexandria Custodianship is a very unique and complicated claim that can and will likely prove very rewarding narratively. It has the ability to play both GIGAS and the Bandung Pact, leaning into one over the long run. It also starts off in the powerful position as being the final access point for both the Suez Canal and Euphrates Canal (only two canals connecting the Indian Ocean and Med).
The Free State of Israel/Alexandria Custodianship does not start off with a strong military, set at only 50,000 members of a Self Defense Force in Israel (with equipment provided by the Bandung Pact -- small arms and light vehicles), and no significant military presence (owing to the UNSC protections) in Alexandria.

The Bandung Occupation Zone

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: Army General Aboubakar Baikoua (UASR General)
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
    • None
  • Population: 28,549,000 (not counting military forces)
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • The Bandung Occupation Zone starts off as a blank slate government - as in, in the interim between conquest and establishing a permanent government.
    • The claimant will be expected to detail a more permanent government in the [CLAIM] post.
    • The Bandung Occupation Zone starts off with some significant military (army/air force) assets including,
    • Indian Soldiers: 500,000 (with meta control but India can try to bring them home)
    • Houston Soldiers: 50,000 (with meta control but Houston can try to bring them home)
    • Joseon Soldiers: 50,000
    • UASR Soldiers: 250,000 (with meta control but UASR can try to bring them home)
    • Approx 4,000 each of Nusantara designed MBT, IFV, and APCs
    • Approx 350 of Nusantara designed multirole fighters
    • Approx 20 UASR-Nusantara designed backfires
    • The Bandung Occupation Zone has the ability to call in 3 Bandung Pact CSGs on an as needed basis. This lasts for 3 IG years starting from the Campaign start. After this, you will need to go to Bandung Pact claims for naval aid or have built your own.
    • The Bandung Occupation Zone is considered a member of the United Congress and has a vote.
Things to Consider
This is a fairly fun claim, with a strong military starting point and diplomatic backing. It is far more straightforward than many of the other claims - however, does have a long-term legitimacy problem. However, it can be self sufficient both militarily, economically, and geopolitically as it controls a fairly economically productive/developed region of the Caliphate.
Something is coming.
The Bandung Occupation Zone does however need to deal with the fact its an occupying force - primarily, and that it needs to deradicalize or face long-term problems with the population. Additionally, there are three Caliphate fractures that will always be looking towards the Occupation Zone.

The Republic of Kaabu

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: President Mansa Pogba
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
    • As necessary from the UASR
  • Population: 854,954,000
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • The Republic of Kaabu begins with direct control over 1/3rd of the UASR military. (Cooperate with the other UASR claim to determine which assets that will include - as needed)
    • The Republic of Kaabu does not have a United Congress vote at the start of the Campaign. As it is considered a part of the broader UASR.
    • Any spending (on military or civilian projects) over a certain threshold, will require approval from the Presidium (ie. an NPC vote and/or direct approval from the Presidium Claim.)
    • The Republic is obligated to act on the call of the broader Presidium and will create internal constitutional/legitimacy crises if it does not do so depending on context.
Things to Consider
Both straightforward and yet mired in bureaucracy, the Republic of Kaabu as a claim is one with a very strong starting point that is completely hampered by the vast bureaucracy of the UASR at large. A strong claim in its own right, the Republic would in theory be able to act as it desires almost immediately if it wasn't for the fact they are beholden to the Presidium, Afripol, and its obligations to the UASR. With this in mind, the Presidium claim (which has meta control over the majority members of the Presidium and a significant chunk of Afripol) has the ability to issue requests/commands/policy to the Republic of Kaabu and it is the choice of the Kaabu claim to accept, follow, or otherwise disregard said issues.
Outside of the clear bureaucracy issues, the Republic has an extremely radicalized hellhole of a Caliphate to deal with in its Northern Border. One that contains the vast majority of the most anti-Pact and religiously zealous individuals. Alongside reports of a host of the Caliphate's most dangerous assets but that is also tacitly supported by the broader Pact and GIGAS in an effort to avoid a total genocide.

The North African Occupation Zone and the UASR Presidium

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: Army General Yemi Mustapha and the Presidium
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
    • As required from the UASR
  • Population: 74,943,000
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • The North African Occupation Zone begins with control over 1/3rd of the UASR military. However, of that, 1/4th of the army/air force/navy are deployed to the North African Occupation Zone, and another 250,000 soldiers are deployed (without meta control) in the Bandung Occupation Zone.
    • The North African Occupation Zone is actually centered in Rwanda, giving it a political stranglehold on the Presidium and thus can issue commands to the Republic of Kaabu (and expect answers at the least, if not agreement).
    • The North African Occupation Zone has no restrictions on technology, and etcetera, but does not have the outright budget to proceed with projects. Therefore must put in requests to the UASR Republics for funding as required (Ie. anytime the project is over $1 billion)
    • Rwanda is able to use [SECRET] posts in an effort to consolidate increasing amounts of the UASR under its political influence.
Things to Consider
The UASR Presidium Claim and its more active ground in the North African Occupation Zone is a fun yet complex claim that has the ability to become one of the major hyperpowers of the season if played well. It will draw heavily on the broader UASR and maintaining equilibrium and needs to deal with both the North African Occupation Zone and taking back its forces in the Bandung Occupation Zone.

The Union States of Asia

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: President Daler Mehndi
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
    • None
  • Population: 809,953,000,000 (including Pakistan)
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • The USA is in a very tough position internally, but starts out as one of the major hyperpowers at the start of the season.
    • The USA must deal with Pakistan in one form or another. Failure to do so will lead to [CRISES]
    • The USA is a major Bandung Pact member, and has a vote in the Congress
Things to Consider
This is one of the most normal claims, not much else to be said. While behind militarily compared to others as the claim was largely inactive, the USA continues to be a premier claim for this Campaign.

The Federal States of Brazil

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: Claimant Pick (detail in [CLAIM])
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
  • Population: 266,043,000
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • The Federal States of Brazil starts as a Bandung Pact member with 1 vote in the united congress.
Things to Consider
There is nothing else to outline, excluding a Japanese-Argentina that has been threatening an invasion for decades, Brazil is another one of the prime claims for a more regular gameplay.

The Republic of Houston

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: President Alex Jones
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
    • Refer to the Fall of the Republic [BATTLE]s for additional characters as required
  • Population: 112,568,000
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • Starts as a member of the Bandung Pact - having burnt its alliance with Japan.
    • Is however still, Japan-positive compared to most of the Bandung Pact
    • Has 1 vote in the United Congress.
Things to Consider
Like Brazil this is another "regular" gameplay claim - facing enemies that threatened to invade (Alfr) and Japan on the continent but otherwise being fairly secure. While outdated, the Houston military is also still fairly strong.

The Western Caliphate

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: Mohammed bin Ali Al-Ummawy
  • Population: 178,439,000
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • Name one of the special military assets and it likely is in the Western Caliphate. Please run things by me first however.
    • Half of the population now lives underground in various large-scale city network bunkers.
    • There is a roaming and currently uncontrollable xenomorph horde roaming topside, which outside of heavily fortified cities is laying waste to the small towns. Please use your religious figures to try and tame it, or kill it, or don't do anything.
    • The Western Caliphate retains approximately 1/3rd of the Caliphate surviving military, please come up with some totals and get them cleared by me.
    • The Western Caliphate starts with a [SECRET] alliance, you will be informed through COVOP messages or discord.
    • If you go the religious fanatics route, you will receive combat buffs if/ever you have Jerusalem under your control. And will lose said buffs without it.
Things to Consider
The Western Caliphate is a fun claim if you want to go hard into Caliphate RP (specifically, the religious angle). It has become a fortress state for the Mahdi (Ummawy) and starts with a peace/non-aggression treaty with the Bandung Pact and GIGAS. However, it is not permitted to build any military equipment by that treaty - enforced by the Bandung Pact, Rome, and etcetera.

The Eastern Caliphate

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: Sultan Danny Glover
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
    • Mohammed Khaled Al-Khader
  • Population: 164,059,000
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • The Eastern Caliphate starts off under the same treaty obligations as the Western Caliphate.
    • It has the opportunity as being less radical, of joining the Bandung Pact if it can resolve the occupation zone, or even coming under GIGAS.
    • It has 1/3rd of the Caliphate surviving military, please come up with totals and run it by me.
    • You need to wrestle with the fact a part of your historic land is under occupation by the Bandung Pact.
Things to Consider
Another fairly straightforward claim which won't be doing a ton of high level diplomacy until it resolves the occupation/treaty issues set forward. You are unable to build military equipment but thats up to enforcement by the Bandung Pact, Rome, and etcetera.

The Triarchy of Kings

  • DETAILS
  • Head of State: The Slayer, Mesut Ozil, Claimant Freedom on the third
    • Other Important Characters (meta control)
  • Population: 403,439,000
  • Claim Starting Allotments (IE. Special Starting Scenario)
    • This claim starts off as the raw-power strongest of the Caliphate successors. And is loosely backed by Japan.
    • You need to deal with Mughalistan, Pakistan in specific. Because you don't have control over that and you will have a population demanding its retaking from India.
    • Likewise, you have another major crisis with Istanbul not being under your full control. Like the Roman claim with Rome, you must deal with this by the 2/3rd mark in one way or another.
    • You start off with 1/3rd of the surviving Caliphate military - run it by me please.
    • Technically, you are a Triarchy of Kings, under the Slayer, Mesut, and a TBD (you decide) character from your portion of Mughalistan.
    • ALL SLAYER FORCES RECIEVE COMBAT BUFFS - Based on how crazy your plans get. GET THEM SLAYER.
Things to Consider
This is a very exciting claim with a lot of early game opportunity. You have the poweweight but not the military might necessary to enact your will. You are obligated by treaty to not expand, but when did the Slayer ever follow a treaty? Maybe you'll want to find violence in Eden? Who knows. The world is your oyster, Slayer.
Go get em, Slayer. Show them who you are.

Special Notes

  • BANDUNG CLAIMANTS: It should go without saying that it is primarily your responsibility to prevent the Caliphate from reunifying.
  • The Atlantic Russian Republic starts as a Bandung Pact member with 1 vote.

2024.05.22 16:51 Historical_Cut_4710 What would you do differently?

TLDR: Would you budget differently? Invest differently? I have no clue whether I’m doing any of this correctly.
Hi! This is sort of a catch all post in that, while I (26, F) think I’m saving and investing wisely, I truthfully don’t know and would appreciate others’ perspectives on whether I should be doing things differently. I don’t come from a financially literate background (I don’t think my parents even have retirement accounts), and I’m trying my hardest to do things correctly here.
I make $117,962 before taxes and live in a high COL area (Washington, DC). After taxes/ health insurance/ retirement, my bi-weekly take home is $2,770 ($5,540 monthly), which I use for the following: - Rent: $1,770 - Utilities: $199 (water, power, cable) - Car payment: $243 - Parking: $150 - Car insurance: $75 - Pet insurance: $25 - Spending: $1,200 (this covers groceries, eating out, doctor’s copays, pet expenses, etc). - Credit card debt: $878 (on course to pay this off by Sept 1 as the balance is on a 0% interest card until that date) - HYSA: $800 - Roth IRA: $100 - Student loans: $100 (this is on deferment until Feb 2025, so my contributions until then go toward the principal. My total balance is $60,000).
*For the two months where I receive an extra paycheck, I deposit those two extra paychecks into my Roth IRA.
**Pre take home pay, $452.16 is put into my TSP account (federal gov 401k equivalent) each month (plus the $452.16 that’s deposited from the two extra paychecks that I don’t account for in my monthly breakdown and instead deposit into my Roth IRA). That figure is 5% of my salary, which is the max amount the fed gov matches.
***I also contribute a mandatory 4.4% of my salary to the FERS, which I believe is the fed gov’s pension. I have no idea how much I’ve contributed to said pension so far, or whethe how that money gets invested.
My current savings include: - HYSA: $14,440.86 (5% APY with Lending Club) - Individual stock account: $2,032.53 (I don’t currently deposit funds into this account) - Roth IRA: $26,306.40 (VOO 41%, VTI 23%, VIG 18%, VYM 18%) - TSP: $23,006.19 (invested in the Lifecycle 2060 fund)
I’d like to buy a house in February of 2026 and want to save aggressively for that (where I, ideally, wouldn’t touch my investment accounts to put 20% down). I assume that we’ll purchase a home in the $500k-$600k range at that point, with a few assumptions (my salary will be closer to $250k when I exit the federal gov, which will likely be in Sept/ Oct of 2025, and my fiancées will be in the $150-200k range). We’d each be contributing equally to the down payment.
So, as my TLDR says, would you do anything differently here? Is my budget breakdown a complete mess? I know I need to save cash more aggressively, but I’m not sure where to relocate those funds from (aside from the debt category come September). Are my investments savvy? Is there another fund I should be investing in?
I appreciate any & all insights immensely!!

2024.05.22 16:41 ACCDistrict Financial Tips from ACC & UFCU

Austin Community College District’s Student Money Management Office partners with University Federal Credit Union to provide tips, tools, and guidance to help you take control of your money.
Here are three tips for college graduates who hope to find financial independence.
  1. Prioritize Your Student Loan PaymentsMany student loan lenders offer a 6-month grace period upon graduation before loan payments must begin. This allows time to look for a job, get settled, and build your finances before you have to start paying them back.
  2. Resist that Brand New CarInstead of buying brand new, consider buying a quality car that is just a few years old. Payments on a brand new car can be substantial. The money you would spend on a car payment could go a long way to reducing your debt instead.
  3. Contribute to RetirementIt’s easy to ignore retirement contributions when you’re just starting out in your life and career. However, the biggest financial mistake you can make as a new college graduate is not contributing to retirement when you’re young. As soon as you get your first job, try to contribute at least 10% of your income to a retirement account. If your employer doesn’t offer a retirement plan, you can always open a Roth IRA on your own and contribute to that.

2024.05.22 15:48 Peacock-Shah-III The Farmer-Labor National Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

The Farmer-Labor National Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

The presidential portrait of Philip F. La Follette, painted by an old acquaintance from his days as a federal soldier in the Revolution.
Seeking a third term to finish his construction of a new dawn for the republic once and for all, incumbent President Philip La Follette has rallied his supporters within the party to almost guarantee his renomination after four years of intraparty purges of his detractors following his narrow triumph over John L. Lewis in 1948. Yet, inspired by former Vice President Lena Morrow Lewis’s deathbed plea to “save our party’s democratic soul,” burgeoning efforts from within statewide opposition groups have sought to mount opposition from within the presidential nominating process as a means of reconquering state parties.
Philip F. La Follette: The heir to one of the nation’s great political dynasties, Philip Fox La Follette would emerge from the Great War and Revolution as a war hero, a reputation that, with his last name, would carry the once outspokenly anti-war young man to the Governor’s office, Lindbergh’s Supreme Court, and finally the upper echelons of the Army, where his ability to avoid taking positions on controversial issues would win him the Farmer-Labor nomination for the presidency in 1944–and finally the White House itself. Alienating much of his constituency from the outset with his determination to prosecute the war effort to its fullest, La Follette would respond to the battlefield use of two atomic weapons by Japan with a series of nuclear strikes upon the Japanese mainland that would claim final victory for the United States at the cost of the lives of over two million Japanese civilians. Appointing General Douglas MacArthur, hardly a Farmer-Laborite, as Secretary of State, La Follette has pursued the rebuilding and rearmament of a ring of anti-communist nations in Asia while pledging to avoid any future war.
Declaring that, with the age of war having closed, the republic must “win the peace,” La Follette allied himself with much of Charles Lindbergh’s base of support, saluting alongside the fascists of Alabama as he presided over the sharpest GDP growth in American history and buoyed it with executive orders to nationalize the healthcare industry while engaging in the mass sterilization of Americans and constructing an interstate highway system and hydroelectric power grid without congressional approval. With an investigation into the disappearance of Smedley Butler yielding evidence of an assassination organized under former President Lindbergh and a litany of arrests of leading anti-La Follette figures stuning the nation, the opposition would unite in an unprecedented impeachment effort.
Now, months after having saved his presidency from the first impeachment in American history, 55 year old incumbent President Philip F. La Follette has sought a new mandate for his call to “win the peace” in a quest for a third term; further, the President has taken his first major post-impeachment use of executive power to reorganize the cabinet into umbrella departments of Peace, Production, and Prosperity. Pointing to the successful slaying of the dragon of inflation and the first space launches in human history, Phil has sought the passage of a constitutional amendment reducing the legislative power to that of a veto and expanding that of the presidency while instituting a nationwide referendum system. Although practically guaranteed renomination after his purging of opponents from national power within Farmer-Labor following his narrow 1948 triumph over John L. Lewis, La Follette’s re-envisioning of Farmer-Labor has nonetheless continued to fuel a dogged but disorganized opposition movement despite the winning over of former opponents such as Washington’s Scoop Jackson, who nearly mounted a bid against La Follette himself.

Alf Landon campaigning in New York with the widow of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Norman Thomas.
Nationwide Opposition Candidates:
With efforts to discourage any opposition campaigns in full swing, only one major figure has stepped forth to win ballot access in most states continuing to hold primaries, although many states have seen independent organizing efforts in tandem with the shared ultimate goal of the demise of fascism.
Alf Landon: 65 year old former President Alf Landon has his cross to bear. Refusing to endorse against Charles Lindbergh after withdrawing from the party’s 1936 primaries, Landon’s inaction as his 1932 campaign manager Rush Holt put Lindbergh over the line would see the Lone Eagle’s flight path on a course to the White House, from where he would crush the remaining loyal Landonites in the midterm elections of 1938. Landon emerged triumphant in 1928 by pitching his moderation as a formula for long term Farmer-Labor dominance of government, only to see the party implode under his watch. Losing the popular vote only to win a contingent election via the machinations of Clarence Dill, Landon's presidency proved eventful, most notable, perhaps for its domestic inaction. While concentrating his focus upon the Molotov-Lundeen Pact establishing friendly diplomatic relations with the Soviet government in Russia, a policy Landon championed as the catalyst for the wide scale withdrawal of foreign forces from American soil, Landon would cut economic aid across the board and refuse to bail out banks & big business in the face of record unemployment rates following the worldwide depression brought on by the collapse of the Japanese economic bubble, while focusing on driving up interest rates to control inflation.
Pitted against a hostile Congress led by Clarence Dill, the man whose legislative acumen carried him to the White House and who now stands as La Follette’s loyal Secretary of Peace, Landon found much of his party arrayed against him in the face of a veto of the Thomas Bill nationalizing natural gas distribution & the telephone industry despite prior promises from Landon to support both proposals. With the complete breakdown of legislative-executive relations, Dill forced through the Recovery Act of 1931, the largest omnibus bill in American history, enacting vast economic reforms over the disgruntlement of Landon. Winning the primaries of 1932 in a landslide, only to lose at the convention in the face of the backroom dealings of Clarence Dill, Landon would fail in a 1936 comeback attempt that would inadvertently pave the way to fascism.
In partisan exile, Landon would unsuccessfully organize against President Lindbergh, only to watch his followers be resoundingly defeated in the midterm elections of 1938; finding himself at the upper echelons of power anew as an unofficial negotiator with the United Kingdom under President Luce, Landon would organize political comeback in 1945 by winning election to the United States Senate after the death of George Norris. Working from there on policy issues such as advocacy of the Parliament of Nations and support for presidential programs such as the Interstate Highway system, Landon and his remaining caucus of conservatives have been at the fore of anti-La Follette intraparty organizing from the campaign of John L. Lewis to the movement for impeachment. Throwing his hat into the ring once more, Landon has used his stature to argue that only his brand of moderation can resurrect the Farmer-Labor of old as a viable party independent of the control of the fascists brought to power by his own neglect.
Robert A. Heinlein: Launched to international fame as the senior naval officer during the American attack on Pearl Harbor, 45-year-old former Commodore Robert A. Heinlein has used the events of December 7th, 1941 as a springboard for a lucrative career as a science fiction author. Emphasizing scientific accuracy in novels with titles such as Red Planet and Rocket Ship Galileo, Heinlein would step from the military and literary arenas to the political at the urging of his publisher James Laughlin and associate Ezra Pound, the poet and former New York Governor who has attempted to revive the American social credit movement. In turn, with Laughlin, Pound, and office holders such as Senators Hans Wight and John Horne Blackmore and Representative Solon Earl Low in tow, Heinlein has capitalized on his war hero stature to campaign for the presidency entirely unrelated to those of every other candidate campaigning against La Follette and instead intended to revitalite the American social credit movement.
Falling curiously between the social credit wing of Farmer-Labor and radicals of the Liberty League, Heinlein has described himself as a libertarian while supporting a social credit monetary system balancing a nationalized monetary supply with a requirement of a 100% reserve on money lending as described in his seminal novel For Us, The Living; further, he has coupled his experience in the Navy with his science fiction work to argue that he is uniquely able to continue President La Follette’s attempts to reach for the stars through a space program and argued for a currency backed by the very goods owned by the government itself. A firm believer in the concept of a national draft and a militarist at heart, Heinlein has resurrected positions such as support for the repeal of the Jesus Amendment, the concomitant secularization of the United States government, and support for a constitutional amendment requiring a national referendum prior to any declaration of war resulting in the drafting of supporters.

Reliving his military days with a uniform on the campaign trail, the President visited a zoo to greet flocks of koalas.
Regional Opposition Candidates:
With opposition Farmer-Labor organizations persisting around the nation and fighting to recapture control of their state parties, anti-La Follette factions across the nation have rallied around regional candidates in states permitting competitive primaries in an attempt to rise the tide of the down ballot opposition. Thus, all of the following candidates are only on the ballots of one or several states.
John Haynes Holmes: 73 year old Unitarian minister John Haynes Holmes served as a leading advisor to William Jennings Bryan, guiding the post-revolutionary nation through the unsteady waters of foreign occupation as he used the White House pulpit to preach his gospel of pacifist socialism. Playing a key role in the pardons of former revolutionaries, Holmes would serve in Alf Landon’s inaugural diplomatic delegation to Bolshevik Russia before reluctantly supporting Charles Lindbergh for his opposition to war with Japan. Nonetheless, a consistent opponent of fascism from his days as a seminary student denouncing young Governor Milford W. Howard’s new order in Alabama, Holmes has been a consistent bulwark in the struggle against the party’s fascist wing, renouncing President La Follette once it became clear that he would not end the Third Pacific War and using the word impeachment as early as the atomic bombings of 1945, which Holmes has denounced as a violation of the Jesus Amendment. Running on restoring the party’s former core of Christian socialism, Holmes has been put forth across New England as the flag bearer of the opposition.
Sid McMath: Hoisting the banner of opposition across the Deep South and Southwest is 40 year old Arkansas Senator Sid McMath. Primarying longtime incumbent Farmer-Laborite Garrett Whiteside in 1948 only to face off against the organization of Progressive strategist Osro Cobb, known as the “wizard of Arkansas” for his success in what was once the nation’s most Farmer-Laborite state, McMath would win an upset victory running on his record as a war hero and ties to Smedley Butler and Evans Fordyce Carlson. Horrified at revelations of the murder of Butler by the Lindbergh Administration, McMath would vote for the removal of Philip La Follette after a midnight visit from his former commanding officer in the Marine Corps David Shoup, transforming himself from an enigma to a pariah overnight as fascists across the nation have descended upon Arkansas to challenge him in 1954, with La Follette forces already organizing behind challenger Orval Faubus in a move that has placed McMath in an unexpected alliance with former rival Osro Cobb.
Jimmy Hoffa: 39 year old labor leader Jimmy Hoffa inherited the mantle of leadership of the Congress of Industrial Organizations from longtime President John L. Lewis after the arrest of Lewis and his deputy Tony Boyle. A moderate with sympathies to both the party’s right and left seen as balancing with fellow CIO leader Walter Reuther’s socialism, Hoffa has put the interests of labor above all from his days leading the Teamsters Union. A fiery speaker who many credit with saving the CIO from collapse after the arrest of its leonine leader, Hoffa’s name is only on three ballots, but he has emerged as the choice of handfuls of CIO-affiliated delegates across the nation as a protest vote against the continued nationalization of the General Trades Union.
Jerry Voorhis: The Senate’s sole member from the Single Tax Party, California’s Jerry Voorhis has nonetheless served as the lightning rod around which disparate California anti-La Follette Farmer-Laborites have organized owing to the state ordinances permitting political crossfiling. Having described “the Kingdom of God” as being a world “all producing wealth is owned publicly” in his Claremont University thesis, Voorhis would oppose President Lindbergh from the beginning as a Farmer-Labor socialist before joining the Single Tax Party in 1946, reviving it in the state of California in an attempt to find a new vehicle for his politics. Seen as a contender for the presidency regardless of party affiliation, Voorhis’s draft movement among California oppositionists has been heralded as the first step of the left wing knight’s hypothetical return to a rebuilt Farmer-Labor Party. Among his surprising supporters has been former Lindbergh-La Follette stalwart Reverend Robert P. Shuler, who has praised Voorhis for crossing ideological and party lines to defend his right to free speech in moralistic attacks on Henry Luce’s romantic life.
Frank P. Zeidler: 40 year old Wisconsin Governor Frank P. Zeidler has stood as a socialist in the heart of La Follette country, successfully resisting primary challenges to maintain his grasp on the office amidst a tenuous alliance with Joseph McCarthy. Entering politics following the death of his rising star brother Carl, Frank has accepted the ballot line of the opposition in several Midwestern states following the death of former Senator Herbert S. Bigelow, once anticipated as a socialist challenger himself. A socialist to the core, Zeidler supporters point to his history of fiscal success and balanced budgets as evidence of his acumen in economic management and ability to control inflation as a possible future chief executive.

The Primaries:
The quixotic challenge of former President Landon would find itself in a surprise competition for national attention with a handful of local efforts sponsored by opposition groups unable to connect themselves nationally. Meanwhile, in an expected turn of events, Robert A. Heinlein would carry the primaries in strongly pro-social credit Shoshone and Vancouver, a respectable showing that has set the war hero and author up solidly for leadership of a social credit bid for party leadership in 1956. Similarly, the success of Jerry Voorhis in California would surprise primary observers and fuel rumblings of a possible 1956 movement.
Among the opening primaries, a lightning bolt would land directly into the La Follette campaign as Arkansas Senator Sid McMath, hardly taken seriously as a challenger by the Administration, won 59.6% in the Florida primary. Scrambling for a response, La Follette would win the uncompetitive South Carolina primary but lose Louisiana by ten points and McMath’s own Arkansas by thirty. With McMath gaining steam across the South, he would nonetheless falter in North Carolina amidst bickering between left and right wing opponents of La Follette that would tear apart his organization in the state and reveal a lack of strong support from anti-La Follette Senator Charles A. Jonas, who would mount a campaign for Alf Landon and leave La Follette to win the state with 54.3% of the vote to a mere 36.1% for McMath. Although McMath would retort with a razor thin victory in Mississippi the next week, focusing on the bread and butter of economic issues rather than rivalry with La Follette, he would soon find several members of his Senate staff indicted on corruption charges. Nonetheless, he would continue his surprising streak with an overwhelming victory in Georgia, combining the Appalachian miners of the north with the urban left of Atlanta and its darling Senator Ellis Arnall for 58.8% in the state’s primary, alongside a surprising 47.1% showing in Alabama with the support of oppositionist Senator Jim Folsom.
As Landon inherited the conservative labor support of John L. Lewis, and with it success in the coal country of the Border South, he would displace a faltering John Haynes Holmes in the state of New York and attempt to present a united front by campaigning alongside Norman Thomas, a strategy that would bring the former President to his most surprising victory, with 51.4% of the vote to 42.9% for President La Follette and 5.3% for Robert A. Heinlein despite the support of former Governor Ezra Pound. The sole exception would be Michigan, where favorite son Jimmy Hoffa would stand on his only primary ballot.
However, the Midwest would present other issues for President La Follette. From the plains of his birth to the industrial Midwest to the south and east, socialist Governor Frank Zeidler would win significant support. Locked out of the Houston, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, and Illinois primaries, Zeidler would nonetheless carry Ohio with 52.1% of the vote and the endorsement of dying Herbert S. Bigelow, adding to his roster Dakota, home state of campaign manager George McGovern. Although coming in an expected second to the incumbent President in their shared home state, Zeidler’s 40.1% showing in Wisconsin, and 3.4% given to former Speaker of the House Joseph McCarthy as a write-in, would raise alarm bells in the President’s home even as he swept the nation.
Nonetheless, La Follette would present a convincing showing of his own for an incumbent President in his quest for a third term, sweeping primaries such as those of Washington and New England against spirited campaigns for the opposition from such men as John Haynes Holmes and, in cautious support of Zeidler, Marion Zioncheck. Thus, despite carrying a smaller share of the national popular vote in comparison to 1948’s battle for the soul of Farmer-Labor, La Follette would emerge from the primaries with a supermajority of the delegates and the path to re-election clearly paved by certain renomination.

Jimmy Hoffa 16

The Convention:
To many, the gathering of one and a half thousand delegates in Philadelphia was meant not as a convention, but as a coronation. Yet, dedicated members of the opposition would refuse to let yet another expected loss in another round of political battle stop them. With tens of thousands mulling about Philadelphia’s Civic Center, the expensive venue that presidential loyalists had insisted on as a means to draw ties to the immortal location of the 1787 Constitutional Convention, oppositionists would gather in the lobby of the Philadelphia Marriott to organize a united front around California Senator Jerry Voorhis in an attempt to bridge divides among the Farmer-Labor opposition and, for appearance’s sake, at the least, to change the depiction of the anti-Phil movement as one of united purpose rather than disparate regional interests.
If the 14,000 in attendance for the convention did not already make delegates packed into the convention hall feel as if they were in a can of sardines, the prying eyes of hundreds of Blackshirts standing guard made the skin of oppositionists crawl, for if looks could kill, Sid McMath would later muse on the televised Longines Chronoscope, every opposition man would be left as dead as canned sardines. After the carnage of the 1948 convention, broadcast to a million American homes over radio, the now loyal machinery of the Farmer-Labor Party was determined to maintain the first televised convention in American political history as their coronation, not the opposition’s competition. In an unprecedented move that communicated clearly the hostility towards anti-La Follette elements from the new doyens of party leadership, Blackshirts had been formally contracted by the National Committee to serve as security.
Indeed, if looks could kill, Frank Zeidler would have been shot dead by none other than Convention Chairman Burton K. Wheeler as the Wisconsin Governor ascended to the podium to enter the name of Jerry Voorhis as a candidate for the presidency, showing the hand of the opposition’s united front. As Zeidler denounced the third term campaign as “the next phase of a national effort to subvert the will of the people,” jeering Blackshirts would shout back “who won?” in reference to Phil’s twenty five point lead in the popular vote. Over the shouts of opponents, Zeidler would denounce La Follette’s urban planning policies, noting as Governor his distaste for the “iron ring of suburbs” surrounding Milwaukee.

Demonstrators allied with the Zeidler campaign demonstrate with signs promoting socialist New York Congressman Norman Thomas.
Sid McMath would rise next to second the nomination of the opposition’s standard bearer, asking delegates of President La Follette, “how will this man be measured when weighed in the scales of freedom in the world?” Continuing, the Arkansan would declare that “The concepts of freedom, equality of opportunity, and dignity for all people are the basis and bulwark of our national pride and our nation’s strength. America’s instinct for equal rights under the law for all citizens is the underlying force that binds us together. America’s conscience dictates that justice is the moral essence of the law. Fires of freedom are burning, ignited by the precepts proclaimed in the American Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights to the Constitution of the United States…they shall not be extinguished.” McMath would not turn to the upturned noses of the Blackshirt guards, but to the dozens of television cameras positioned across from him. Understanding acutely that neither he nor his compatriots were to win this day, Senator McMath was not addressing the voting delegates assembled before him but the voting masses of the nation. Confident in that assertion, Sid McMath would hold his head high as he left the stage, the cheers of supporters carrying his heart over the din of hisses and insults.
President La Follette would not take the stage until Voorhis had been voted down, animated counters on the television screen announcing to the world his triumph. For the first time in American history, a President had been impeached. For the first time in American history, a President had survived impeachment. Now, for the first time in American history, a President had consecutively won renomination for a third term. Secretary of Production Ralph Immell would later recount a smile upon Phil’s face as the news came through, joining 16 year old Sherry for a hug and beckoning over First Lady Isen and his older children. The larger than life man so often plastered with the title dictator would caress a photo of his family from before the war, from before the presidency, and would take a deep breath as he left his private room to greet the throngs of admirers.

The First Family shown in a photo from 1941 treasured by the President.
The President’s speech would be brief, listing a challenge to the Federal Reserve as among his third term goals and rebutting allegations of authoritarianism by arguing that he held the reformist soul at the heart of Farmer-Labor. Promising loyalty to “the life of democracy,” Phil would describe his Administration as “investigating problems very thoroughly, whether it be a depression amongst farmers, or unemployment. Out of this, shall we say scientific investigation of problems, we seek after remedies.” Nonetheless, Phil would stand by granting "the Executive branch power to get things done and restore to every American the opportunity to help himself. After that, he can sink or swim,” and reiterate his admiration for Milford W. Howard’s fascism with a nod to the Alabama delegation. Noticing shouts from opponents in Norman Thomas’s New York and a sign hoisted by Landon delegates from Nebraska, President La Follette would look from the delegates to the cameras to defend his leadership.
Over thirty years have passed since that unhappy day when the American people, blinded by promises made by those at home and abroad, forgot the highest values of our past, of the Republic, of its honor and its freedom, and thereby lost everything at Tegucigalpa. After those days of treason, discord and hatred moved in.
America, since the day the revolution broke out, was a picture of heartbreaking disunity. We did not receive the equality and fraternity which was promised us; instead we lost our freedom. The breakdown of the unity of mind and will of our nation at home was followed by the collapse of its political position abroad. American freedom is rooted in American abundance. Let me emphasize the statement that no free nation can remain half at work and half idle. Howardism was an explosion against these intolerable conditions.
We overcame class and class warfare. I do not recognize classes, but only the American people. I therefore appeal now to the American people to stand for Americanism against autocratic dictatorship and economic tyranny. The La Follette Administration will complete the great task of reorganizing our national economy, saving the American worker, and saving the American farmer. The Administration has worked and will work for victory not merely in the brutality of war, but in peace as well. We have no desire to fight for ourselves; only for the United States of America.
As we won the war, I appeal to you once more, let us win the peace.
As Blackshirts below ripped signs of protest from the hands of the opposition, the President of the United States would end his address with a barb, characterizing his opponents as “machine minded organization without principle or program.” Looking into the eyes of delegates who wished him dead, La Follette would defiantly declare that “definitely and irrevocably, we are here to stay as American people reclaim their heritage,” before closing with a final imploration to “win the peace.”
Four years ago John L. Lewis had declared that “the hour of labor’s redemption” had arrived. Today, John L. Lewis closed his eyes in a prison cell a thousand miles away as hundred foot banners of George Washington rose in the convention hall that labor had ruled two decades ago. Alongside Washington rose equally prominent banners of Philip La Follette, speakers blasted a folk rendition of the campaign anthem “Vote for Phil” from convention hall into ten million television sets and from thousands joined chants of “Phil! Phil! Phil!” accompanied by the salute of Rome and its empire, of Howard and his fascism, today of La Follette and the peace to be won. Whatever November might bring for Philip La Follette, his hour of triumph was at hand.
Hail victory!
A tall banner of George Washington shortly before similar banners of President La Follette were placed around him.

2024.05.22 14:00 scooter8484 My mom got a withdrawal from a prize picks Atlanta GA in her checking account and we never even heard of that before?

She got her debit card cancelled. I don't know what's going on. She doesn't even use prize picks and never has. Who are they associated with? Its a withdrawal post for 250 bucks. We're going to dispute it. She has an account with truliant federal credit union.
