Una breve historia sobre la humanidad a Syra, veamos que tal reacciona.
Debido a la longitud de algunos capítulos, ahora también el fanfic estará disponible en Archive of Our Own, por si desean una experiencia mas ininterrumpida.
Por si acaso, hay una publicación en el discord, por si quieren discutir algo de la historia, pues ahí esta.
Y lo siento por publicar tan tarde, aunque creo que este ritmo de publicación cada dos semanas me podría venir bien a decir verdad.
Estuve ausente pues por fiestas y tengo exámenes dentro de poco, así que no esperen capítulos pronto.

Transcripción de Memoría de Sujeto: Daniel Fernandez Vega, Estudiante de Ingeniería de Computadores y Miembro del Programa de Intercambio Humano-Venlil
Fecha [calendario humano estandarizado]: 17 de Septiembre de 2136
Veo su semblante pensativo, el leve temblor de sus orejas y la forma en que su cola se agita con nerviosismo, como si luchara por asimilar todo lo que acabo de confiarle. Me pregunto si quizás he sido demasiado crudo o directo al desnudar los aspectos más sombríos de la naturaleza humana. Después de todo, ella aún se encuentra en proceso de superar el temor hacia nosotros que parecen haberle inculcado.
Contarle la historia de la humanidad va a ser un viaje.
A menos que se lo resuma, y también porque no lo se todo.
Sin embargo, parece que será necesario que le cuente todo lo que sé. Si se pretende que ambas especies nos entendamos de verdad, ambos debemos estar dispuestos a abrazar nuestras imperfecciones… o algo así.
Aunque lo que quiero en realidad es darle un abrazo a ella, pero bueno, ya llegará la oportunidad, creo…
Decido romper el silencio antes de que la incomodidad se instale por completo.
—Bueno, parece que es mucho para asimilar, ¿no?
—Si, es… bastante—Me responde.
Ya que he empezado la conversación, decido seguir.
—Bueno, ya que te he hablado sobre mucha de nuestra naturaleza, y dado que vas a ser historiadora, ¿dónde quieres que empiece?
—Supongo que desde el principio.
Vale, contarle esto va a ser muy largo.
—¿Y no tienes donde apuntar o algo así?
—¡Si, si tengo donde apuntar!—Me responde Syra, un poco ansiosa tal vez, a la vez que sale de mi cuarto, va al suyo, y vuelve con un holopad.
—Vale, nuestra historia como especie separada comienza hace unos 300000 años (según los restos más antiguos hallados), en posiblemente, varias ubicaciones a la vez, en lo que serían los países de Marruecos, Etiopía o Sudáfrica. Aunque la mayoría asumimos que nuestra historia comenzó en lo que se conoce como el Gran Valle del Rift, en un continente llamado África.
Procedo a encender el ordenador, e ir a un mapa de la tierra que tenía por ahí guardado como un archivo de imagen de alta resolución.
—Más o menos por aquí—Le digo mientras le señalo un área que conforman los países de Etiopía, Eritrea, Yibuti, y el Congo.
Noto a Syra apuntando notas con su holopad.
—Hay muchísima palabrería científica la cual si intentamos averiguar, no terminaríamos nunca y no pasaremos de esta etapa inicial jamas, pero digamos que algún primo lejano nuestro, más antiguo, y que andaba por los árboles, cuando aquel valle que conté tomó su forma separó el continente en dos regiones, árida y tropical, y debido a que ya no había más árboles porque escasez se vió obligado a andar por el suelo para conseguir su comida, y la hierba de ese entonces probablemente era alta, por lo que este sería el incentivo perfecto para que estos ancestros nuestros se pusieran de pie, pero eso ocurrió hace ya unos millones de años terrestres. Volvamos a nuestra especie.
»Como te mencioné, los restos fósiles más antiguos que tenemos datan de unos 300,000 años atrás, en lo que ahora es el continente africano de la Tierra.
Hago una pausa, asegurándome de que Syra esté tomando notas mientras explico:
—Según los registros históricos y el estudio de nuestros antepasados por parte de nuestros investigadores, la especie humana surgió a partir de una rama evolutiva de primates que comenzaron a caminar erguidos sobre dos piernas. A diferencia de otros simios, nuestros ancestros abandonaron los árboles para explorar las vastas sabanas (como lo dije antes) y desarrollaron habilidades de caza mediante el uso de herramientas primitivas.
Muevo mi mano en un gesto explicativo, como si dibujara esas escenas del pasado remoto frente a Syra.
Aunque vi que su “lana” se le erizó un poco, tal vez por la palabra “caza”.
—Cazar, recolectar alimentos, refugiarnos de los peligros... Esas fueron las principales actividades que moldearon a nuestros antepasados durante millones de años en la Tierra. Poco a poco, sus cerebros se hicieron más grandes y complejos, permitiéndoles desarrollar el lenguaje, la cooperación en grupos y todo un repertorio de comportamientos sociales cada vez más sofisticados.
»Claro, no fue un camino fácil. Hubo muchos callejones sin salida, extinciones, competencia con otras especies... Pero, de alguna manera, los humanos logramos superar todos esos desafíos y emerger como la especie dominante de nuestro planeta. Primero, nos expandimos explorando el planeta, y compartiendo el mundo con otras especies humanas también, sip, hubo otras especies humanas, pero por ahora, digamos que algunas veces la cosa fue bien, pero otras veces, el asunto terminaba en violencia entre las tribus de distintas especies. Todo esto hasta que al final abarcamos todo el mundo, el mundo entero le “pertenecía” a la humanidad.
Observé como Syra me miraba de reojo y de lado, con uno de sus ojos, está prestando atención, aunque por otra parte, no puedo evitar encontrarlo gracioso debido a que me recuerda al meme de “The Rock”, ese que levantaba una ceja.
—Y así, al final, pasamos de ser cazadores-recolectores, a ser sedentarios, porque nos dimos cuenta que igual el alimento puede durar más cuando se lo raciona, se lo conserva y se lo hace crecer hasta un punto de consumo óptimo.
»Y con los alimentos sobrantes, se acumulaban para peores épocas. Ahora es cuando empieza lo violento: Debido a que los alimentos se acumulan en diferentes tribus, hasta donde sé, cada una tenía sus reservas de comida, estas reservas de comida eran tantas que se creó infraestructura especializada para almacenarla y protegerla, y estas tribus y asentamientos se fueron convirtiendo en ciudades-estado, y por esto hubo muchos, muchos conflictos entre las ciudades por intentar arrebatarle los recursos a las otras. Fueron tiempos en los que la mayoría de las cosas se resolvían con violencia, sobre todo al principio, cuando solo teníamos lanzas, hondas y machetes rudimentarios como armas.
Observé a Syra tomar notas casi compulsivamente, con una expresión de seria concentración en su rostro ovalado. Puedo percibir la forma en que su peluda cola se agita levemente, denotando quizás cierta incomodidad. Debo ser cuidadoso con la forma en que expongo estos hechos.
—Con el tiempo, estas ciudades fueron desarrollando formas más eficientes de cultivar alimentos y domesticar animales. Esto les dio cierta ventaja y permitió a sus poblaciones crecer. Eventualmente, esas civilizaciones más avanzadas comenzaron a dominar y conquistar a las tribus y ciudades más débiles y pequeñas.
»Al final, estas ciudades-estado fueron evolucionando en algo más grande—continué explicando a Syra—. Los grupos humanos comenzaron a unirse en alianzas, formando naciones cada vez más grandes y poderosas. Surgieron los primeros imperios, como el Imperio Acadio en lo que hoy es Irak, el Imperio Antiguo de Egipto, o las primeras dinastías de la antigua China.
Estas últimas ubicaciones mientras las decía, las señalaba en el mapa.
Miré a Syra, asegurándome de que estuviera siguiendo mi explicación. Su rostro ovalado se mantenía atento, con sus grandes ojos avellana fijos en mí y sus orejas ligeramente erguidas. Asentí y proseguí:
—Varias de estas civilizaciones desarrollaron sistemas de escritura, comercio a gran escala, enormes construcciones monumentales e inventos que facilitaron la vida humana. Por ejemplo, los sumerios inventaron la rueda y los egipcios construyeron las icónicas pirámides en honor a sus faraones.
»En otras partes del mundo, civilizaciones como la maya y la inca también florecieron con ciudades de buen tamaño y una arquitectura impresionante. Pero desafortunadamente, muchas veces la violencia y la guerra eran inevitables a medida que los imperios competían por recursos y poder.
Hice una pausa, recordando algo importante.
—Oh, y también hay mencionar la antigua Grecia si o si, cuna de la filosofía occidental, el teatro y la democracia como un sistema de gobierno viable. Atenas fue una de sus ciudades más influyentes de la historia humana gracias a sus filósofos.
—Espera, ¿Cómo que teníais filósofos?, eso no es lo primero que pensaría al escuchar todo lo que me has dicho, sobre todo con la violencia imperante en esa época.
—Bueno, la verdad es que en la misma medida que luchábamos, algunos pensadores y aristócratas se la pasaban en sus aposentos pensando respuestas a preguntas como: ¿Cuál es el sentido de la vida? ¿Qué nos diferencia de los animales? ¿Existe un orden superior que gobierne el universo? Estas, y varias inquietudes más dieron origen a nuestras formas de filosofía como especie.
»Como te dije antes, en la antigua Grecia surgieron bastantes nombres famosos en cuanto a filosofía y pensamiento, cuando te dejen en algún momento acceder al internet de la tierra y busques por ellos seguramente te encontrarás con nombres como Aristóteles, Tales de Mileto, Sócrates, Diógenes, Platón, entre algunos otros que no me vienen a la cabeza ahora mismo. La cosa es que la antigua Grecia fue uno de los pilares del pensamiento en la parte occidental de la humanidad, seguro que hay también filósofos orientales pero ahora mismo no los recuerdo, lo siento si te molesta ese detalle.
Busco en los archivos de mi ordenador algunas imágenes ilustrativas y se las muestro a Syra en la pantalla. Observo cómo sus pupilas horizontales se dilatan ligeramente al contemplar las ruinas de templos griegos, las estatuas y bustos todavía no se los muestro debido a que (obviamente) no tienen máscara, y eso podría perturbarla.
—Bueno, ¿tu te especializaste en la ingeniería verdad?, si bien quiero aprenderlo todo, se que igual y no te acuerdas de muchas cosas por tu especialización, pero aun así, quiero saber lo que sabes para darme una buena idea de la historia de tu especie.
—Gracias por eso, Syra, supongo que intentaré contarte todo lo que sé.
»Bueno, después de esas primeras civilizaciones y sus imperios influyentes, la historia humana siguió avanzando —proseguí—. Con el paso de los siglos e incluso milenios, las naciones y los imperios continuaron expandiéndose, chocando y sometiéndose unos a otros.
Hice una pausa, notando la atenta mirada de Syra sobre mí. Sus orejas permanecían erguidas y su cola se agitaba lentamente, escuchándome con precaución.
—Por ejemplo, en Europa surgió el Imperio Romano, que en su apogeo abarcaba gran parte de los países que hoy conocemos como Italia, España, Francia, Inglaterra y más allá. Fue una civilización enormemente influyente que dejó un legado duradero en arquitectura, ingeniería, leyes y hasta varios de los idiomas que hablamos los seres humanos hoy en día.
Syra asintió despacio, tomando notas con su holopad mientras yo señalaba en el mapa las áreas que mencionaba.
—Más tarde, tras la caída de Roma, surgieron nuevos reinos e imperios en Europa. Como el Imperio Carolingio de Carlomagno en la región francesa, y más adelante el Imperio Otomano que se extendió desde Turquía hasta los Balcanes, y por supuesto también hay que hablar del Imperio Español, Monarquía Hispánica o Reino de las Españas, imperio del cual “descienden” los países que te mencioné antes.
—Te refieres a esos tales España y Perú, ¿verdad?
—Sí, me refiero a España y Perú. Aunque primero déjame mencionarte que hubo otras civilizaciones importantes en distintas partes del mundo durante esa época.
»En Asia, por ejemplo, surgieron otros imperios como el de la antigua China, con sus diversas dinastías que se extendieron durante siglos. Los chinos desarrollaron aportes trascendentales como la pólvora, la imprenta y la brújula. También hubo grandes civilizaciones en la India, aunque de la única que me acuerdo es el Imperio Mogol por un mausoleo gigante conocido como El Taj Mahal. En América, como ya mencioné, los mayas e incas se destacaron con centros urbanos impresionantes y sistemas de escritura avanzados.
Notó su expresión de concentración y cómo su cola se movía lentamente de un lado a otro.
—Todas estas civilizaciones influyeron en el devenir de la especie humana —proseguí—. Iban surgiendo, expandiéndose, chocando entre sí y eventualmente decayendo para dar paso a nuevos imperios. Era un ciclo constante de ascensos y caídas.
»Ahora bien, si tuviera que destacar algunas de las civilizaciones más importantes, me centraría en el Imperio Romano, el cual ya mencioné, y el posterior surgimiento del Islam desde la península arábiga. Esta nueva religión llevó a la creación del vasto Imperio Otomano que se extendió por Medio Oriente, el norte de África y parte de Europa.
Noté cómo Syra movía las orejas con atención mientras yo señalaba las regiones correspondientes en el mapa digital.
—En Europa, mientras tanto, se vivió una época conocida como la Edad Media, con una fuerte influencia del cristianismo y el surgimiento de reinos como el de los francos bajo Carlomagno. Más tarde vendría el Renacimiento, un período de gran avance cultural, artístico y científico impulsado por mentes brillantes como Leonardo da Vinci.
Hice una pausa dramática antes de continuar.
—Y por supuesto, no puedo dejar de mencionar a España. A partir del siglo XV de nuestro mundo, los reinos de Castilla y Aragón se unificaron y se convirtieron en una potencia colonial que exploró y conquistó gran parte de América. De ahí proviene mi “herencia”, ya que mis antepasados son tanto originarios del actual Perú, como de la Península Ibérica, algunos de los territorios que formaron parte del vasto Imperio Español en el Nuevo Mundo.
Giré mi cabeza hacia Syra, notando su reacción de interés, probablemente por las palabras de mi “herencia”. Aunque tampoco es que tuviera sangre noble ni nada así, ni que fuera descendiente de algún cacique indígena o noble europeo, o algo así.
Ya me gustaría, así al menos tal vez tendría una casa grande asegurada cuando me independizara de verdad, tal vez.
—Bueno, como te mencioné, el Imperio Español fue uno de los más vastos y poderosos de la historia humana—retomé el hilo—. Surgió tras la unificación de los reinos de Castilla y Aragón en la península ibérica durante el siglo XV. Desde allí, los españoles emprendieron una expansión colonial sin precedentes.
»Conquistaron gran parte de América, sometiendo a civilizaciones indígenas como los aztecas, mayas e incas a través de varios métodos, sobretodo, alianzas con otras tribus o culturas indígenas—expliqué, señalando en el mapa las áreas correspondientes—. Este choque entre la vieja Europa y el Nuevo Mundo desencadenó mucha violencia y destrucción, cosa la cual era común en cualquier conquista humana, pero también un intercambio cultural y biológico que transformó al mundo para siempre.
Noté a Syra tomando notas rápidamente con su holopad, aunque con sus orejas ligeramente gachas.
Parece que eso denota inquietud, voy aprendiendo de sus gestos casi sin darme cuenta, lo cual está bien, ya que así podré reconocer que siente o piensa solo con sus gestos de cola y orejas.
—Entiendo que todo este tema de la conquista y el sometimiento de culturas enteras te pueda resultar... perturbador—dije en un tono más pausado—. Pero debes entender que en esa época, la mentalidad humana aún era muy distinta. Se daba una especie de... jerarquía implícita donde las grandes potencias consideraban "natural" someter a los pueblos más débiles, incivilizados, o que no conocieran el evangelio de Dios, o el Islam, o cosas parecidas.
Di un respiro, percibiendo su mirada fija en mí mientras parecía procesar todo lo que le he dicho.
—No lo estoy justificando, simplemente intento explicar la... cosmovisión predominante de esa época. Afortunadamente, con el paso de los siglos, ese tipo de mentalidades han ido cambiando poco a poco en la Tierra.
»Desde nuestra perspectiva actual, eso que te dije antes suena completamente inaceptable para la Federación, ¿verdad? Pero en aquel entonces, esa forma de pensar estaba muy arraigada, sobre todo por las creencias religiosas y la idea de "expandir la fe verdadera", era algo que era de vida o muerte para los Europeos, pues no concebían otra forma de vivir o de creer.
Veo a Syra asentir. Aunque todavía parece haber cierta cautela, parece que se interesa genuinamente por lo que estoy diciendo.
—De todas formas, más allá de la violencia, hubo un enorme intercambio cultural y biológico entre el Viejo y el Nuevo Mundo—continúo explicando—. Los europeos trajeron caballos, vacas, cerdos y otras especies de ganado a América. A cambio, los nativos compartieron cultivos como el maíz, la papa, el tomate y muchos otros que se volvieron fundamentales para la alimentación global.
Hago una pausa, percibiendo que Syra parece relajarse un poco más.
—Hubo enfermedades que devastaron a las poblaciones indígenas desprotegidas, lo cual fue una tragedia—reconozco con pesar—. Pero también se mezclaron razas y culturas, dando origen a nuevas sociedades híbridas con raíces tanto europeas como americanas. Fue... un proceso convulso y a veces brutal, pero también fascinante desde una perspectiva histórica.
Syra asiente lentamente, aún con esa mirada cautelosa pero visiblemente interesada.
—Cuéntame más sobre esos... intercambios culturales—pide con genuina curiosidad—. ¿Cómo se mezclaron las costumbres y creencias de estos “europeos” con las de los pueblos nativos?
Ok, al menos hizo una pregunta para saber por dónde ir.
—Bueno, hubo un sincretismo interesante en varios aspectos—explico—. Por ejemplo, en países actuales como México y Perú, se fusionaron creencias y ritos de las antiguas religiones indígenas con el catolicismo traído por los españoles. Las iglesias se construían sobre antiguos templos, y algunas festividades se adaptaron combinando elementos de ambas tradiciones.
Veo que Syra toma notas con avidez, sus orejas erguidas en señal de atención.
—Y en el ámbito lingüístico, lenguas como el español y el portugués se convirtieron en los idiomas dominantes, pero incorporaron muchas palabras de origen indígena, sobre todo en lo que se refiere a flora, fauna y elementos de la cultura local—prosigo—. De hecho, algunas palabras comunes que usamos en español, como "chocolate", "tomate", "aguacate" y muchas otras, provienen de lenguas amerindias.
»Vale, si me quedo aquí hablándote de un solo imperio o una sola época no terminaríamos nunca, así que solo diré que tanto por incompetencia de la Monarquía Española y por influencia de sus enemigos externos, el Imperio Español sufrió un gran declive con las independencias de Hispanoamérica que se dieron a partir de nuestros años 1810 a 1830, creándose así unos cuantos países nuevos como: Argentina, Chile, Perú, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia, el Primer Imperio Mexicano, Paraguay, Uruguay. Luego en 1898 España perdería sus últimos territorios atlánticos y en Asia a manos de los Estados Unidos: Cuba, Puerto Rico, algunas antillas hasta donde recuerdo y las Islas Filipinas, perdiendo así, su estatus de potencia colonial.
—¿Pero ocurrió algo alrededor del mundo antes de eso o todo solo estaba enfocado en España?—Me pregunta Syra.
—Por supuesto, en el mundo entero y en esos momentos, desde hacía décadas se estaba dando la Primera Revolución Industrial, la cual empezó en el país conocido como Reino Unido, que introdujo las máquinas a vapor y donde se pasó de una economía basada en la agricultura y la ganadería que había estancado a la humanidad por siglos, a una economía más urbana, mecanizada y valga la redundancia, industrializada. Por primera vez en la historia, la gente se mudaba a las ciudades en masa y surgieron nuevas clases sociales.
»Esto fue consecuencia del crecimiento urbano del que acabo de hablar, con centros industriales surgiendo en países como Inglaterra, Francia, Alemania y más tarde Estados Unidos, y aún más tarde, España también se uniría a la fiesta. Aunque al principio las condiciones laborales eran terribles, poco a poco fueron mejorando gracias a la presión de los movimientos obreros.
Hago una pausa, dándole tiempo a Syra para asimilar la información. Noto que sus orejas se mueven ligeramente, una señal de que está prestando atención.
—¿Qué quieres decir con "condiciones laborales terribles"?—pregunta frunciendo levemente el ceño.
Bien, una pregunta. Eso es bueno, significa que se está involucrando.
—Bueno, al principio la industrialización masiva trajo consigo la explotación de los trabajadores, especialmente mujeres y niños—explico con franqueza—. Se les pagaba salarios de miseria y se les obligaba a trabajar jornadas extenuantes en fábricas insalubres y peligrosas. Era... una situación bastante jodida para ellos.
Veo la expresión de Syra contraerse ligeramente ante mis palabras. Su cola se agita con inquietud.
—Pero como te dije, los movimientos obreros y sindicatos lucharon por mejores condiciones—me apresuro a agregar—. Con el tiempo, se fueron aprobando leyes que regulaban o prohibian de una zancada el trabajo infantil, establecieron salarios decentes y redujeron las horas de trabajo, las famosas 8 horas, o si quieres oirlo de otra manera: 2 zarpas. Fue un proceso gradual, pero se logró mejorar la calidad de vida de las clases trabajadoras.
Syra asiente, pareciendo un poco más tranquila. Decido continuar:
—En ese período convulso, antes de estas regulaciones, también surgieron ideas revolucionarias que cuestionaron los sistemas monárquicos y las desigualdades extremas—prosigo—. Por ejemplo, la Revolución Francesa de 1789 derrocó a la monarquía absoluta y proclamó ideales como la libertad, la igualdad y la fraternidad.
»Aunque digamos que al final no terminó muy bien, ya que derivó en periodos bastante sangrientos y caóticos, como el Reino del Terror, la Revolución Francesa sentó las bases de los estados-nación modernos y la noción de que el poder debía emanar de el pueblo de un pais, no de la realeza o de unas élites aristocráticas, aunque no se si hayan tenido mucho éxito sabiendo lo que vino después de esto. La cosa es que esto causó un gran impacto en toda Europa y más allá.
Noto los ojos de Syra moverse de un lado a otro mientras me escucha atentamente. ¿Qué estará pensando? Es difícil descifrar su expresión.
—¿Y qué hay del resto del mundo durante esa época?—pregunta con curiosidad—. ¿Las demás civilizaciones también pasaron por un proceso similar de industrialización?
Buena pregunta. Me llevo una mano a la barbilla, pensando.
—No exactamente—respondo despacio—. En ese entonces, Europa era la cuna del avance tecnológico e industrial. Las demás regiones se vieron muy afectadas por el colonialismo y el sometimiento a las potencias europeas.
»Por ejemplo, gran parte de África se convirtió en una fuente de mano de obra esclava para las plantaciones de Europa y América. Un comercio horrible que desangró al continente africano durante siglos.
Syra parece estremecerse ligeramente ante mis palabras. Rayos, creo que fui demasiado crudo. Tengo que tener más tacto.
—E-en Asia, por otro lado, las antiguas civilizaciones se vieron superadas tecnológicamente por los europeos—me corrijo rápidamente—. El Imperio Otomano y otros reinos se resistieron inicialmente, pero poco a poco tuvieron que modernizarse o “modernizarse” para poder sobrevivir o tan siquiera que una parte de estas civilizaciones sobrevivieran.
—¿Y cómo así este Imperio Otomano se vio superado tanto?
—Bueno, aquí es donde llegamos al siglo XX, ¿te acuerdas cuando no te pude contar demasiado por el chat sobre las Dos Guerras Mundiales que tuvimos durante ese siglo?
—S-Si.
—Aunque poseían un vasto territorio, los otomanos no lograron modernizarse a tiempo. Sus antiguas tácticas militares no pudieron contra el poder de fuego de las nuevas armas europeas —expliqué—. Hubo varias guerras donde resultaron derrotados, como en la llamada Guerra de Crimea de mediados del siglo XIX.
»Al final, el Imperio Otomano terminó desintegrándose tras la Primera Guerra Mundial en 1918, cuando los aliados lo invadieron y desmantelaron. De sus cenizas surgió la moderna república de Turquía y varias naciones más en el Medio Oriente.
Syra frunció levemente el ceño, tomando notas con su holopad.
—¿Ahora sí, a qué te refieres con la Primera Guerra Mundial? —inquirió con un tono precavido—. Mencionaste antes en nuestro primer chat algo sobre dos grandes guerras en ese siglo.
Mierda, ahora tenía que explicar esa parte espinosa de nuestra historia, espero que no se le joda mucho la mente. Tomé aire antes de responder:

Bueno creo que no es tan claro el título así que paso a explicar.
Mi nombre es Tomás, me dicen Tomi, Tom, Moli, Molo, por mi apellido (Molinari. Ya sé que dice González pero es más fácil poner el primero que el segundo).
Trabajo en el Aeroparque con un calendario que me da dos días de trabajo por dos de descanso. Disfruto de mi trabajo, aún con el constante cambio de rutina, al que ya me acostumbré.
Cómo me veo: mido 1,82, grandote normal, si me dejo crecer el pelo (castaño oscuro) tengo una suerte de rulos. Solía usar barba, pero el laburo ya no me lo permite así que lampiño. Respecto a mi estilo, vestirme bien es algo subjetivo: puedo estar con pantalón tipo chino, camisita y mocasines y al otro día un joggin todo clorado y una remera desteñida.
Hobbies: me gusta mucho andar en bici, jugar cada tanto al paddle con mis amigos, ver películas o series (La Ley y el Orden es mi favorita, después le sigue Stranger Things) leer en general y en lo particular me gustan los géneros utópico/distópico y realismo mágico (García Márquez un héroe). Cada tanto saco una máquina de escribir y me pongo a teclear lo que se me vaya ocurriendo. Suelo escribir de todo, y a veces cartas. Disfruto de ir a todos los lados que pueda: me gusta mucho viajar, sobre todo a la playa. Si tenés auto y no te gusta manejar, acá tenés chofer. Amo manejar.
Sobre música, puedo decir que así como escucho Chichi Peralta, te escucho The Weeknd, Bad Bunny y Michael Jackson. Preferencia: todo lo que es ochentas (me subo a un auto y te clavo la Blue o La 100 a la hora de los lentos).
Para terminar, team perros siempre (dos labradores tengo), el mejor clima se da entre septiembre y diciembre. Mi comida favorita es la milanesa con puré. No entiendo mucho las indirectas y cuando las entiendo me parezco a este meme, le pongo buena onda a todo lo que hago, aunque a veces ande con cara de orto. Tengo pasión por Ford, y un cariño al Hércules C130 (en uno hice mi vuelo de bautismo). La actividad que más me relaja debe ser cortar el pasto y arreglar el jardín.

I had a damn good time hoenstly. They dont make em like this anymore.
Crysis 1 does feel a bit dated but not a noticable amount to be unenjoyable anymore. The story is...a thing. General Kyong is one dimensional to all hell and cartoonishly evil. And I like that. I hate the modern trope of villains needing to be sympathetic. Let them be evil for evil sake's. Raptor team had two redshirt throwaways in Aztec and Jester, so not much to say about them, as their purpose is to hype up the Ceph. Prophet was not on screen as much as I had remembered but he was a badass towards the end. Psycho was a bro. The supporting cast, Helena and Strickland are excellent though Strickland just should have gotten on the God-damned VTOL, instead of doing that. I'm still mad about killing off Helena and Nomad off in a comic book. Story aside, the sound design is even better than the graphics and honestly, the whole trilogy had better sound design than I feel that people give credit for. The Ceph in particular in this game emit sounds that before their full reveal make you feel their presence. A loud bombastic sound that echoes through the level. Hearing the Scouts in the first few levels is haunting, and then in the last act daunting. The soundtrack is also quite unique in Crysis 1. Strickland's March comes to mind as does the Core level's whole soundtrack. The Ceph are easier than I remember them being, the KPA gave me a hell of a lot more trouble than the Ceph. Maybe because I used silencers when fighting the KPA but even then, Ceph didnt take too much effort to kill.
Crysis 2, hasnt aged. Like at all. The remaster looks barely different than the 2011 release. It plays kind of clunky but my controller has a bad drift problem now so dont take my word for that. Story wise, Crysis 2 plays like a damn good alien invasion movie. As opposed to Crysis 1, the Ceph have a lot more screentime, the most in the trilogy. Unleashing a bioweapon against humans, the Ceph launch their invasion into New York. Being the only silent protag in the franchsie, Alcatraz is essentially a self insert of you the player. In a way, that kind of makes the story personal to you. Especially after the asshole squids ambush your whole platoon in the first five minutes and kill all of your friends. Except Chino. Somehow. The characters are a step back for some and step up for others. Gould is...a mediorce character who could honestly have been (should have been) Helena. The CELL Commander Lockhart is, basically just General Kyong but a PMC and American. Tara Strickland is an ok character though the twist with her being undercover is, well...best to judt work with it. "Dont worry, you're safe, I'm CIA." Yeah, first fucking time in history that was ever said. Barclay was just Strickland from the first game but he actually has some characterization during the Terminus level. Hargeave is, well his voice acting and lines honestly make him easily the best character in the game. Music and sound design is top notch here once again.
Crysis 3, my personal favoirte. Also not aged a day. The story is my fave in the trilogy. Killing CELL and hearing them freakout is satisfying as all hell. As opposed to the last two games, there actually isnt any human antagonist unless you want to count the nameless CELL Commanders. The main villain is without question the Alpha Ceph and once broken out, the Ceph make CELL take a backseat fiercely. Music and sound design is my favorite in the trilogy. Characters are ok. No real standout like Hargreave or hot chick like Tara Strickland though she is in the background. Helena still should have been in Gould's place, and Gould himself was disappeared off screen. Prophet returns and is the player character through magic Ceph bullshit from the end of the second game. Psycho also comes back and goes through one of the best character arcs I have evef seen in gaming.
Overall, the trilogy has in my opinion aged like a fine wine. Despite some story decisions I hate (have I bitched about Helena and Nomad? Because I fucking hate how they got killed off in a fucking comic.) but despite that, the trilogy is as fun as I remember it.

Paso el contexto y espero que alguien un poco más profesional lo vea y pueda responder mi duda. O escuchar la opinión de otras personas para tranquilizarme o ver qué podemos hacer.
Resulta que el día 18 de marzo tuvimos relaciones, un tanto diferentes para nosotros. Teníamos la fantasía de hacerlo estando hebrios y decidimos hacerlo. Ambos tomamos pero quién realmente estaba hebrios era yo. Ella tiene mucha más resistencia al alcohol y en ningún momento ella se perdió, estaba masomenos conciente en todo momento y recuerda todo lo que pasó. Caso contrario a mi que hay un par de horas del acto que honestamente no recuerdo nada, ni que pasó ni que hicimos.
Ambos nos protegimos. Siempre lo hacemos con condón y esta no fue la excepción. Recuerdo perfectamente ponermelo, por qué fue antes de que el alcohol hiciera efecto en mi, y recuerdo el momento en que me lo quité ya al final, en donde dejé de estar en ella para que ambos nos hiciéramos un oral para terminar. El momento terminó gracias a qué un familiar le llamó a mi novia por celular para preguntarle sobre algo. Y ambos en ese momento nos calmamos y por todo el alcohol en mi, me quedé dormido en esos momentos. Estoy casi 80% seguro que el condón estuvo en su sitio durante el acto. Por qué recuerdo habérmelo puesto y recuerdo habérmelo quitado al final de todo. Sin embargo fueron un par de horas que completamente estoy en blanco. No recuerdo si lo traía o estaba bien colocado. Según mi novia, ya que ella estaba consciente en todo momento, yo siempre lo usé. Incluso ocacionalmente ella tocaba esa parte para asegurarse que estaba puesto. No fue todo el tiempo, pero se puede decir que era ella quien estaba cuidando que estuviera bien el condón.
Cabe decir que no eyacule en ningún momento. El condón estaba vacío cuando lo revisé ya habiéndose ido la sensación de hebriedad y siendo sincero es un tanto complicado terminar dentro de mi novia por qué desde siempre me he acostumbrado a nunca hacerlo cada que tenemos relaciones, precisamente por seguridad aunque traiga el condón puesto. Y ya al final en donde nos hacíamos un oral tampoco terminé, por qué nos interrumpió la llamada. Y después de eso me dormí. Entonces de eso sí estoy seguro, jamás eyacule, ni dentro ni fuera. Simplemente me ganó el cansancio y la hebriedad.
Otra cosa a tener en cuenta es que ella tiene un DIU. Aproximadamente llevamos unos 3 o 4 meses con él. Se lo pusieron en un centro de salud y verificaron que estuviera bien puesto. Por lo que, ella también está protegida.
Y yo sé que con todo esto que ya expliqué parecería obvio de que no pasó nada. Hubo dos protecciones (condón y DIU) y aparte nunca hubo eyaculación. Pero han ocurrido cosas que me están asustando y que me confunde completamente sobre si hay algo o simplemente es el cuerpo de mi novia volviendo a ser irregular.
4 días después, osea el 22 de marzo. Comenzaron pequeños síntomas que nos hizo creer que su menstruación estaba por llegar. Cambios de humor, sensibilidad en pechos, olor a sangre y en algún momento hubo pequeña presencia o "hilos" de sangre cuando iba al baño. Incluso salió un pequeño coagulo de sangre, lo que pensamos que ya estaba empezando ahora sí su menstruación. Pero después de eso, nada. Los cólicos siguieron, los cambios de humor y sensibilidad, olor, todo. Pero nunca bajó. Según sus dos calendarios. Su regla debía haber llegado entre el 30 de marzo y el 6 de abril. Por lo que pensamos que se había adelantado. Pero hasta ahora y hoy 6 de abril. No ha bajado nada. Los cólicos se detuvieron hace 3 días pero el resto de síntomas continúa. Los hormonales, el humor y eso. Pero no ha bajado nada.
Mi novia tiene historial de tener una menstruación completamente irregular. Ya tuvimos hace un año un susto por qué se retrasó 2 semanas, aún cuando se hizo prueba de embarazo y salió negativa. Nos hizo dudar incluso de las pruebas por qué no bajaba. Al final si lo hizo pero eso nos enseñó en qué no hay que confiar en su cuerpo.
A eso agreguen también de que últimamente ha tenido mucho estrés en su casa por problemas familiares. Por lo que al menos yo le estoy echando la culpa de eso a que su menstruación no haya llegado.
Pero aquí va mi pregunta. ¿Realmente creen que esté embarazada? Soy una persona que sufre de mucha ansiedad y sobrepiensa mucho las cosas Es por eso que aunque yo sé que todo estuvo con protección. El hecho de que haya tenido esos síntomas de menstruación y que no haya bajado nada me hace ponerme muy nervioso.
Leí mucho también sobre síntomas similares cuando ocurre una implantación. Y me da miedo pensar que eso haya pasado.
Por fa, se que es mucho texto pero me ayudarían con su opinión para poder estar más calmado o si debo de ir preparando todo para hacer una interrupción. Por qué ya lo hablamos desde hace mucho que ambos estamos dispuestos a hacer una interrupción en caso de algo así pase antes de tiempo. No estamos en condiciones de tener hijos todavía.

El condón estaba vacío cuando lo revisé ya habiéndose ido la sensación de hebriedad y siendo sincero es un tanto complicado terminar dentro de mi novia por qué desde siempre me he acostumbrado a nunca hacerlo cada que tenemos relaciones, precisamente por seguridad aunque traiga el condón puesto. Y ya al final en donde nos hacíamos un oral tampoco terminé, por qué nos interrumpió la llamada. Y después de eso me dormí. Entonces de eso sí estoy seguro, jamás eyacule, ni dentro ni fuera. Simplemente me ganó el cansancio y la hebriedad.
Otra cosa a tener en cuenta es que ella tiene un DIU. Aproximadamente llevamos unos 3 o 4 meses con él. Se lo pusieron en un centro de salud y verificaron que estuviera bien puesto. Por lo que, ella también está protegida.
Y yo sé que con todo esto que ya expliqué parecería obvio de que no pasó nada. Hubo dos protecciones (condón y DIU) y aparte nunca hubo eyaculación. Pero han ocurrido cosas que me están asustando y que me confunde completamente sobre si hay algo o simplemente es el cuerpo de mi novia volviendo a ser irregular.
4 días después, osea el 22 de marzo. Comenzaron pequeños síntomas que nos hizo creer que su menstruación estaba por llegar. Cambios de humor, sensibilidad en pechos, olor a sangre y en algún momento hubo pequeña presencia o "hilos" de sangre cuando iba al baño. Incluso salió un pequeño coagulo de sangre, lo que pensamos que ya estaba empezando ahora sí su menstruación. Pero después de eso, nada. Los cólicos siguieron, los cambios de humor y sensibilidad, olor, todo. Pero nunca bajó. Según sus dos calendarios. Su regla debía haber llegado entre el 30 de marzo y el 6 de abril. Por lo que pensamos que se había adelantado. Pero hasta ahora y hoy 6 de abril. No ha bajado nada. Los cólicos se detuvieron hace 3 días pero el resto de síntomas continúa. Los hormonales, el humor y eso. Pero no ha bajado nada.
Mi novia tiene historial de tener una menstruación completamente irregular. Ya tuvimos hace un año un susto por qué se retrasó 2 semanas, aún cuando se hizo prueba de embarazo y salió negativa. Nos hizo dudar incluso de las pruebas por qué no bajaba. Al final si lo hizo pero eso nos enseñó en qué no hay que confiar en su cuerpo.
A eso agreguen también de que últimamente ha tenido mucho estrés en su casa por problemas familiares. Por lo que al menos yo le estoy echando la culpa de eso a que su menstruación no haya llegado.
Pero aquí va mi pregunta. ¿Realmente creen que esté embarazada? Soy una persona que sufre de mucha ansiedad y sobrepiensa mucho las cosas Es por eso que aunque yo sé que todo estuvo con protección. El hecho de que haya tenido esos síntomas de menstruación y que no haya bajado nada me hace ponerme muy nervioso.
Leí mucho también sobre síntomas similares cuando ocurre una implantación. Y me da miedo pensar que eso haya pasado.
Por fa, se que es mucho texto pero me ayudarían con su opinión para poder estar más calmado o si debo de ir preparando todo para hacer una interrupción. Por qué ya lo hablamos desde hace mucho que ambos estamos dispuestos a hacer una interrupción en caso de algo así pase antes de tiempo. No estamos en condiciones de tener hijos todavía.

FOR ARGENTINE ROCK, just like for most of the cultural, social, political and economic strata of our country, 2001 was a bomb that scattered splinters aimlessly and everywhere. A most mobilizing start of the century. In that context it was the release of Jessico, the album which that bunch of freaks called Babasónicos had been hoping to compose for years, which would soon lead them to a state of (in)famous popularity, and which would indicate an aesthetic and a sound for the future. On the Internet, the exchange of music files (songs) was already a reality, but although there were still no platforms where you could listen to any song you craved for a modest monthly price, Steve Jobs presented in October of that year the first iPod with the slogan “1,000 songs in your pocket”. A month after that launch in Cupertino, California, but 10,300 kilometers away, in Buenos Aires, the sky fell on Patricio Rey's head and splitted the paths of the duo Solari–Beilinson. I've been a fan of Deftones since 2011, when I read that they were coming to Estonia. Sadly I couldn't attend the show, as I still lived with my parents, didn't really have any allowance, and lived in the other side of the country. I remember looking up their music, and instantly falling in love with it. I think it was around the time Diamond Eyes came out, which is still my favourite album of theirs. The first songs of theirs that really captured my attention were Sextape and Change (in the house of flies).
So one day, after a few years of not really listening to any bands or that much music as in my younger days, I randomly see the remastered video of Bloody Cape pop up in my youtube feed. For some unknown reason I decided to click on it and check it out. And god damn it was amazing. The video was first of all very cool and it was nice to see Chi. And then I relistened to the whole thing and the song just kept on growing on me. After that I looked up some live performances of this song, and my god how hard do those performances went. Chino with his peak vocal performance, hitting those screeches, and Chi with those massive backing vocals and growls.
After that I looked up some more heavier stuff of theirs, and I just got more appreciation for their work. Songs such as Lhabia, Bored, and Rosemary - I noticed different elements of their songs which I hadn't appreciated before. The harmonisations and guitar work just work so well together. And of course the drumming as well.
And most recently I gave a real good listen to Fireal, and oh my god what an experience that is. And that whole process from Bloody Cape to Fireal has now renewed my interest in music overall. I used to listen to new music and albums in a different kind of way back in the day, than I have in more recent times. Perhaps that's just part of being an adult and other things taking priority in life. But after hearing Bloody Cape and Fireal, and just getting addicted to them, it all has somehow sparked that once lost feeling and appreciation for music yet again.
I can only hope that they'll visit Estonia once again someday, so that I could fulfill that missing Deftones live show experience, which I couldn't afford as a broke teenager back in 2011. I don't know what the meaning of this post is, but there it is. I had to get this off my chest.

En mi infancia (por ahí del 2009-2011) jugaba un juego de PC (de pago creo) con gráficos “realistas” que era sobre encontrar cosas y muchas eran para completar un objeto que te ayudaría a avanzar a la siguiente sección, también el juego tenía puzzles, el juego iniciaba adentro de una cueva y tenias que explotar la entrada con dinamita para poder salir de ella, era en una isla tropical creo.
En el juego no te podías mover libremente, tenías que encontrar las cosas en un escenario que era una imagen, y algunos tenían varias secciones, el soundtrack era muy bueno.
Recuerdo que en su título tenía palabras como ‘isla misteriosa’ o algo así, y el logo del juego lo recuerdo como un círculo tipo calendario azteca o una (cabeza/máscara) de alguna tribu antigua, y estoy casi seguro de que no tenía un protagonista, y si lo tenía era hombre.

The women trapped in prison with abusive guards: ‘They hold my life in their hands’

As California prosecutes a prison guard on nearly 100 charges, survivors behind bars say officer abuse is so widespread it feels inescapable: ‘All I know is how to survive’
Latasha Brown sat at a picnic table in the visiting area of the California Institution for Women, just out of earshot of a guard standing watch. It was a hot morning in July and the 42-year-old spoke softly.
“There’s liberty in deciding not to live in fear anymore,” she said.
Brown was speaking out for the first time about the sexual abuse she has suffered at the hands of correctional officers over her 21 years in California prisons.
Once she started talking, she couldn’t stop: there was the officer who watched her shower, the official who demanded sexual favors in exchange for legal help, the officers who forced themselves on her and then gave her small “gifts”. Brown says she has been sexually assaulted by at least five correctional officers during her time behind bars, and harassed by many more: “We’re not only prisoners in here, we’re women, and we’re reminded of that through widespread male violence.”
In May, one of those guards, the former officer Gregory Rodriguez, was charged with nearly 100 counts of sexual violence. Authorities say Rodriguez is suspected of harassing, assaulting and raping at least 22 women in custody from 2014 to 2022, though court records and testimony from women and their lawyers suggest his abuse extends beyond the criminal allegations. Rodriguez has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his lawyer did not respond to requests for comment.
Five of the women who have come forward about Rodriguez say the abuse left them with lasting psychological distress that they’ve struggled to overcome in prison. They describe a system in which a lack of access to basic amenities like adequate food and hygiene products and regular family communication make them vulnerable to abuse by guards who promise privileges or threaten further restrictions. Abuse is so widespread it can feel inescapable and ordinary, women said, noting that they face immense pressure to stay silent, living with the stress of potentially lengthened sentences or solitary confinement if staff retaliate.
‘He groomed me’
Brown has been incarcerated for more than two decades, sentenced to 37 years to life for a murder she committed at age 15. She says was sexually abused as a child and again in county jail before she was sent to California’s women’s prisons. Brown has spent time at both CIW, an hour east of Los Angeles, and the Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) in Chowchilla, where Rodriguez worked.
Standing at the vending machines in the CIW visitors’ room, she selected a frozen pizza and a Starbucks coffee, luxuries she can’t get from the commissary: “It’s just these little things that make you feel more human,” she said.
Predatory guards take advantage of the lack of supplies and conveniences, making women dependent on them for items they either need to survive or simply to feel normal, Brown said: “As prisoners, our possessions are everything. What little we have is so important to us.”
Two officers who groped and assaulted her over the last decade would give her clothing to bribe her into silence, she continued, including bras and a bandana. One of the guards repeatedly fondled her at her prison job and then left her small presents in a trashcan not visible to cameras, she said. She remembers thinking of one of the guards as “generous”: “I’m deeply ashamed of it, but I also knew there was no recourse for us.”
Valerie*, an incarcerated woman in her 30s who says she was repeatedly abused by Rodriguez in 2014, said he at first presented himself as one of the kind officers. When she arrived at CCWF, she felt alone and was often by herself, she said.
“When I think about how he groomed me, it wasn’t that he was forceful in the beginning. He was just a friendly face, always asking me how I was,” she recalled. “We appreciate the nice staff, because they’re the ones that treat us like humans. He positioned himself that way. I thought he cared … when really I was just being manipulated.”
Over time, Rodriguez started sexually assaulting her in unmonitored areas, she said, and pressured her to tell no one, warning that if anyone else knew, she’d face trouble. He suggested that would make it harder to get parole, she said: “‘You don’t want to be in that position because you want to go home.’”
She said she wanted the assaults to end, but was terrified of retaliation: “At that time, I felt I was responsible for all of the abuse … I just felt trapped because I couldn’t talk to anybody.”
‘We can’t defend ourselves’
The case against Rodriguez has sparked outrage in California, but data suggests the women’s experiences are incredibly common. The last national survey of incarcerated people by the justice department, conducted in 2011 and 2012, counted roughly 47,000 people who had been sexually abused by staff in the previous 12 months, though the number is a significant undercount. The California department of corrections and rehabilitation (CDCR), which imprisons nearly 4,000 women, logged more than 800 complaints of staff sexual abuse across the state last year.
“They say it’s one bad apple, but it’s not,” said Brown. “The abuse of prisoners is widespread but has largely gone unacknowledged.”
Brown said she was working as an aide for women with disabilities last year and was bringing a woman in a wheelchair into a parole hearing room when Rodriguez opened the door and rubbed his body on hers as she passed through – an assault he repeated on a second visit. She had not reported her previous assaults and didn’t want to disclose this one, either: “There is shame and stigma attached to being not just a victim, but a snitch. So I’ve learned how to fly under the radar and stay quiet. These people hold my life in their hands and I know the lengths they will go to cover up misconduct. I’ve watched officers turn a blind eye to the conduct of their peers or facilitate attacks on other inmates. All I know is how to survive.”
When abuse did become known, the consequences for women often were severe. Both Brown and Valerie say they were placed in solitary after staff found out about Rodriguez’s assaults on them. CDCR says women who report abuse are placed in “administrative segregation” for their safety and when no other housing options are available.
Selina*, who reported that Rodriguez sexually assaulted her and who has testified for the prosecution, said she lived with daily fear that more people would find out she was a whistleblower and that she would face retaliation or violence as a result; she does not talk to her prison counselor about what she’s been through. When any officer makes a snide remark at her or looks at her in a certain way, she panics, she said.
“The only thing they could really do to keep me safe is to get me out of here,” she said. “We can’t defend ourselves in here, because who is going to listen to us? We’re a number in here. We’re not treated like people. I just want to get home to my kids.”
‘I internalized my anger’
The psychological toll of repeated sexual abuse in prison can be severe. Survivors of sexual assault described an intense struggle with shame, anxiety, fear, depression, suicidal ideation and post-traumatic stress from living in an environment where abuse was normalized.
Compounding their challenges, many women who are incarcerated have already experienced trauma in their past. Studies in the US have found that 60% to 80% of incarcerated women experienced sexual violence or domestic abuse before they were jailed, making them especially vulnerable to revictimization.
Several survivors described severe discomfort in confined spaces and feeling scared when anyone gets too physically close – triggers that are impossible to escape in prison. Brown said she felt trapped in a state of “permanent alert” and “perpetual uneasiness”; when anyone approaches her from behind, even a cellmate who is not threatening, it makes her body jump and her heart race. Recently a supervisor whispered something to her while trying to be quiet, and it caused her to panic.
Brown said that when she read old journal entries talking of the abuse, “I feel so sad for her. I minimize the abuse to distance myself.”
Rita*, a 36-year-old woman who says Rodriguez assaulted her while she was incarcerated at CCWF, said that she had been sexually abused as a child and was so shaken and retraumatized by his attack that in the moment she almost physically fought back: “But instead I just shut down, because that was my coping mechanism when it happened to me as a child. And I felt like I was a child again.” She was recently released and has struggled at her first job post-prison, where she has to work in close quarters with male employees.
Survivors have few or no outlets to process their trauma, said Amika Mota, executive director of Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition, a non-profit group that works with incarcerated survivors, including victims in the Rodriguez case. “So many incarcerated people have never had access to any mental health support, so they hold so much within.”
Mota recently testified about her own experience of abuse inside California prisons and is part of a newly formed CDCR committee focused on preventing sexual violence. “The narrative we are fed – that if you speak up, you are no good, you are a ‘snitch’ – it becomes so internalized. Not speaking up becomes like a badge that we wear. The impact is that you begin to choke on your own voice when you start to use it.”
“I really internalized that anger towards myself,” said Valerie. “I really did feel like I brought this on myself, and I tried to deny that it happened … I felt dirty and did not know how to get rid of that filth.” She eventually became an educator, teaching her peers about sexual assault policies, which she said helped her speak out and learn to set boundaries.
‘I will not bow down’
CDCR declined multiple interview requests over several weeks. A spokesperson, Terri Hardy, said in an email that the department “investigates all allegations of sexual abuse, staff sexual misconduct, and sexual harassment pursuant to its zero-tolerance policy and as mandated by the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act”. The policy “also provides guidelines for the prevention, detection, response, investigation, and tracking of allegations against incarcerated people”, she said.
Rodriguez’s arrest, Hardy added, followed CDCR’s internal investigation and referral to prosecutors: “The department resolutely condemns any staff member – especially a peace officer who is entrusted to enforce the law – who violates their oath and shatters the trust of the public.”
Brown, one of the first to speak publicly about Rodriguez, said she knew there were risks in coming forward, but that it was empowering to no longer stay quiet: “I am guilty of the worst of human behavior. But just because I’m in prison does not mean my body and my labor are interchangeable properties.” She also agreed to testify before a recent hearing of lawmakers and CDCR leaders. Although officials declined to allow her to speak live, an advocate read her remarks, in which she recounted the moment she learned of Rodriguez’s arrest.
“I did not celebrate because sure, when we experience harm, we want some accountability. Some justice, even,” she said. “However, I don’t think his punishment should be the final resolution because it’s an amplified response to just one person’s abuse, not a response to the systemic abuse. And until our lives matter, I will not bow down.”
