2024.06.01 14:18 TrainingDrive1956 What do you all do for pain?

I'm not talking about the average pain that we get occasionally, I can usually fix that with medicine like ibuprofen and methancarbomal. I'm talking like when you get a flare up and it's the most severe pain you've ever felt in your life and pain medicine only works for about an hour and you can't do anything because it hurts so bad.
I don't currently have health insurance, so as much as I need to see a doctor, it's just too expensive right now. (Thanks America ❤️) I've tried taking baths, heating pads, drinking lots of water, getting an IUD, etc and none of it's working. Any ideas?

2024.06.01 14:13 Kreedie_ What is the right decision?

My rescue rat Peach, she’s 3 years old and usually quite lively, but she’s deteriorating so quickly..
She doesn’t seem to be in any physics pain, but she’s extremely lobby and can’t even walk anymore, she can’t eat or drink.
I’ve been syringe feeding her both food and her medication (and some water every hour) and now she’s not even chewing anymore, but instead, she’s bruxing a lot lately, has puffy eyes, head tilt and won’t stop rubbing her eyes with her front paws.
I’ve made sure he has a heat pack and she’s in a tiny carrier on my bed so I can keep an eye on her health at all times, on top of that, giving her a gentle warm bath to clean off all of the gunk, porphyrin and urine.
Does she have a chance? Am I cruel for keeping her alive? Am I cruel if I put her to sleep?

2024.06.01 14:10 SusieQu1885 Is Diet Coke/Coke Zero so harmful?

People are so divided with this issue - I don’t drink alcohol, juice, protein shakes or big sugary coffee drinks - however I do enjoy tea, sugar free iced tea and Diet Coke as well as my mandatory 2-3 liters of water; I usually drink water either for exercise or in between meals, I don’t like drinking water with my meals because it ruins the flavor and alters my palate- and im already cutting out sauces and butter from cooking- so diet soda just accentuates what little flavor the food might have so that I can enjoy a decent low cal meal. I used to drink 4 cans a day, now I drink one for lunch and one for dinner- my parents and society treat me like I’m hooked on fentanyl or an alcoholic telling me that’s why I haven’t lost as much weight, when literally the calories are 0-1. The worst part is people who try to lecture me smoke or drink beer - like wtf - some bodybuilding channels say it’s ok, other health experts say no- it’s really annoying me because I literally have no addictions or awful vices and I take really good care of my diet and my fitness routine- and yet I’m constantly judged for liking Coke Zero.

I picked this plant up from a nursery two days ago. It looked super rough when I got it but I figured that would be a challenging for nursing it back to health. It has rained twice and I watered it the first night I got it.
Anyone know why the leaves look so bad? Is the soil missing something? I have some plant medicine from when I got a bonsai tree, should I use that?

2024.06.01 14:01 Ok-Criticism-7377 Contaminated water with unknown substance and cookwares

I pured water in a mostly Teflon coated iron alloy pot that was completely clean but had ammonia like odor and then put the pot on my oven. as the water was slowly evaporating the smell of the solution in pot turned into something like burning rubber and after a while when the solution reduced to almost two cup the previously clear solution turned in some opaque with yellow color and some sediment solution. after a while the sediments precipitated and the solution turned almost clear yellow color. I think the sediment was related to the water hardness. then I washed the pot with dish washing liquid and repeated the process. the result was a solution with less but yet completely detectable yellow color. after repeating the process for more than 3 time I couldn't get a clear solution but the color was fading away. at last I introduced some diluted sodium hypochlorite (bleach) to the last result solution and it decolorized and turned white like clear water. what was the contaminants on my pot?! Here's the picture. https://freeimage.host/i/JbV78LG https://freeimage.host/i/JbV78LG From right to left: the pre boiling water, first boil, second boil after washing with dishwashing liquid soap, third boil after second washing with dishwashing liquid soap, and so on till last one that was same as others but that's after adding a little of bleach.
After doing some other tests I can say that The yellow color I mentioned Is not related to the water alone. The boiled water in fully Teflon coated pot gets no color but some white sediment that I think is due to water hardness. I'm guessing but The yellow color might be related to the some dissolved iron oxide that was related to the not coated part of the pot. Also the ammonia like odor has some contribution to the intensity of the yellow color. With the ammonia like odor I have a bright and yellow solution but without the odor the color is less bright and more fading. So I think the ammonia like odor thing should be able to do some oxidizing on the pot?! But if this is the proper explanation the bleach part remains unexplained. And I also boiled some of those contaminated water with almost a spoon of salt in a zinc-alloy cookware and after about 30 minutes of boiling I get this: https://freeimage.host/i/JbVu0PV Any idea?! Also I have to mention that the waters pH is above 8 and below 10. I can't determine it because of my limited lab ware

2024.06.01 13:57 BestKirby How do you even start to heal?

These days I have shit days and almost ok days though those are a lot more rare. Today is a shit day and I need to get this out of my head.
Everyone tells me to move on and that I'll meet someone new eventually but how am I ever meant to move on from things when her reason for ending it was that she didn't want a relationship right now? We'd met on a dating app and both wanted a long term relationship at the time. I'd honestly rather she'd said something hurtful, something critical, something I can understand as a reason for not wanting someone anymore. Tell me you hate me, tell me it's me, tell me I'm not good enough. Don't tell me we would be a great couple but it's not what you want right now.
For the first time in 32 years I felt like I had found someone that I could actually connect with. She knew me well enough in 6 months to read me like a book, better than anyone I'd been "close friends with" for over 2 decades. For the first time in my entire life I felt seen, understood and most importantly wanted. I didnt come from a wonderful home so I didn't even feel that from my own family.
How can I imagine ever moving on when I don't even have any negative feelings towards her? There was nothing I didn't like. Sure she had her own issues but they made her who she is. I saw them and they didn't matter to me. None of them were "deal breakers" or things I couldn't see passed. Everyone has flaws, hers were part of what made her beautiful.
We shared every interest I have and now that she no longer wants to be with me I can't even escape the thoughts of her no matter what I try.
We gamed together. We played boardgames together, we played tabletop games together, she read the same novels, she used to be involved in publishing and writing while living in the UK. She lived in Japan and enjoyed anime. She watched the same series, enjoyed the same memes. I feel like I can't do anything to escape the thought of her and it just hurts. I feel like I have nothing anymore. She even worked in IT. Mental health? She had similar diagnoses to me so I can't even involve myself with that without thinking about her.
The social activities and geeky things around town that I felt comfortable enough to engage with and start dipping my toes into the water in the social scene? Guess who is already a big part of that?
Now I get to live with feeling that someone that understood me to that degree rejected that, that understood so much about who I really am and decided that wasn't what they wanted "right now".
How do I move on when every part of who I am/was just reminds me of her? One of the last things she said to me when we broke up was "If I could feel what you feel, I would. We’d be such a great couple. I hate that I don’t." How do you move on when someone you were falling in love with acknowledges that you'd be great together but doesn't want you anymore? Maybe she was just trying to be kind and let me down easier but this isn't working for me. I honestly feel like the only way forward is to change who I fundamentally am. How am I ever meant to deal with this pain if everything I enjoy that should take my mind off her just reminds me of what I lost?
When people tell me I'll heal in time, maybe, but why would I ever think that this kind of thing won't just happen again? I feel discarded and unwanted. I feel hopeless. Why should I continue to fight this when it's just going to happen again? If the only person that I connected with to that degree doesn't want to be with me then how am I ever meant to believe that it won't just be exactly the same with "the next" person if I'm even ever able to get there?
Everytime I get a notification I hope it's her, even though I know it's not and that I was the one that said I needed to go no contact as I can't handle just being friends and watching from the sidelines. I want her to be happy more than anything else but it would legitimately kill me to see her flourishing in a relationship with someone else. I know she probably will and I hope she finds happiness but I can't be around to see it. I see her smile everytime I close my eyes. I remember how happy it made me to make her laugh. I remember supporting her when she was going through tough times and her telling me how lovely it was to not feel judged and that she didn't have to mask around me.
My world has been crumbling around me and those I thought I was close to before have shown me that the other connections I thought I had are shallow and superficial. In the weeks I've been like this, only one person has actually reached out and tried to be supportive. I know that it's a two way street but I just can't deal with this much longer. I feel so absolutely alone and trapped with my thoughts with no outlet that doesn't just amplify the pain. I feel like I have no real connections and only came to realise that now. When friends tell me that things like I'll heal or it will be ok all I can see is hallow platitudes meant to make them feel like they're helping.
I'm not ok. Don't tell me it will be ok.

2024.06.01 13:48 Present-Artichoke-17 First time bringing in a stray.....

Hi all!
Soooo.... i ended up bringing in a young male stray cat. I thought he belonged to someone at first because he was very trusting- laying down on his side/showing his stomach. Lets strangers pet him. I brought him in, I have another indoor cat, so I've kept the stray in my bathroom (only room that fully closes off).
I'm a little out of my element. I've had him scanned for a chip, negative. I've been doing my due diligence- posting on FB and Ring Neighbor. Hes being fed, has water, i set up the litter box in the tub which hes been using.
I brought him to the vet- he got a clean bill of health from the tests, got dewormer as a preventative, got his basic vaccines since i wasnt sure if i was able to keep him. (I want to keep him....). Hes not neutered, about maybe 2 years old. Has scars so they think hes been on the street a while.
Hes generally very sweet. Vocal lol. purring all the time, or meowing to be let out of the bathroom. he shows me his belly, i can pet him when hes eating. lets me comb him. i can pick him up. he has claws but has never tried using them on me.
I feel so guilty because my bathrooms small.... so I got gates to try to section space off and so him and my cat can get used to each other. theyve seen each other when ive gone in and out of the bathroom with no issues or hissing.
when hes in the bathroom hes layin down most of the time- sleeping, is this normal? i get so worried that hes just stress napping because the bathrooms small so its not like he can really roam in the room.... my friend whos taken in strays before said hes probably just finally relaxing not worrying about shelter or food. also because hes a stray hes more active at night maybe so sleeping more during the day is normal.
im trying to slowly introduce so he has more space to roam- i have gates sectioning off two spaces (stray just jumps them) my cat has been super patient, very curious and tries to let the stray have his space but hes a curious kitty he wants to approach more. when they see each other they dont hiss, but the stray didnt like my cat following him around and hissed then, my cat just took two steps back and sat- the stray from my understanding still seem to feel claustrophobic and moments of over stimulation. ive been letting him out in small increments like 15-20minutes with a good break inbetween because it seems overwhelming for both (ive only done this twice thus far)
im just worried because i hear him meowing to get out and clawing at the door occasionally to get out and its so discouraging that im doing this right.... it breaks my heart
does anyone have tips or tricks? im not rereleasing him... its been under a week so im not giving up on anything yet as i know this can be a weeks months long process. but would love to hear other scenarios. i have a calming collar on him which seemed to help in the beginning.
thank you!

2024.06.01 13:38 Serious_Structure964 I would like to purchase a tap water filter. Any good recommendations ?

I am living and drinking tap water of Switzerland since I was born. For health reasons I would like to invest (max 400.-) in a good water filter system.
I was looking at berkey gravity tanks but this market is quite overwhelming.
Before anyone tells me here that Swiss water is the cleanest I can get and I don't need to filter it : I just want to state that I am an architect and even if it's true for water tested at the source, many people here would be shocked if they see how bad the hygienic conditions of the pipes transporting the water to their homes are.
I would like something able to filter : heavy metals, bacterias, PFAS, nitrates at least

Long shot - lost men’s wedding band
While on vacation for our 20th anniversary with the family, I lost my wedding band when I was throwing the football with my son during high-tide on Thursday 5/30.
We were staying at the Admiral’s Roost and we were playing ball directly as you walked off of that pier and into the water about 20ft during high-tide.
I know it’s a long shot but if there is anyone who knows of someone who metal detects in the area - please have them keep an eye out for a men’s, titanium wedding band if they are in the area.
Thank you in advance!

2024.06.01 13:33 OkListenListen My princess passed away unexpectedly

My princess passed away unexpectedly
My beautiful siamese lady passed away today. She was only 9. I woke up and she was dead. Nothing feels real. She loved me, she trusted me, she was incredibly smart, incredibly well behaved and loving to the extreme.
Full story: At the beginning of the year we took out a small benign skin tumor from her neck. All the studies previous to the surgery said she was in impecable health and the tumor was benign.
A month ago, she started smelling bad, and slightly limping. And I mean BAD. We took her to the vet of course, he found she had what appeared to be mastitis, even though it's rare for a cat that's neutered and is not lactating. He also found out the smell was coming from an infection under a nail in her back foot. She was on antibiotics for 10 days, but neither condition was getting better. She had a lump under a nipple that wasn't looking great, so we decided to take it out since she had a high risk of cancer (her previous owner had given her anti conception pills when she was young). During that surgery they also removed a small piece of the infected toe to clear out the infection. The week following the surgery was fine. She wasn't eating as much, but she was eating and drinking. She stayed on antibiotics, but they were really starting to mess up with her digestive system so she stopped once her stitches were out. Up until then, the finger seemed to be doing better. Then it started getting worse and worse again, to the point where it looked like flesh eating bacteria. Back on antibiotics and staph creams to try to save the finger, with a growing suspicion that it might be skin cancer, specifically a squamous cell carcinoma, because of the fast rate at which it was advancing, and this type of carcinoma apparently is super aggressive and malignant. The finger started getting hard, smelling like rotten flesh, nothing was working so the only option was once again putting her through surgery (3 weeks had passed already) to amputate the finger, there was even a risk of gangrene. The amputation went swimmingly, the surgeon did a spectacular job, her foot ended up looking like she was just born with 3 fingers. She must have smashed her face against the cage coming out of anesthesia, because she got a small bald spot on her nose and a light nosebleed. The nosebleed went away after the first day post op, she was doing so much better it was unbelievable, her mood was back to how she'd act before this all started, etc. The second day post op, she had a very light nosebleed in the morning and she saw the vet the same day, it was a superficial blood loss just mixed with some water. He cleaned his operated paw, it was healing perfectly. Today, the third day post op, I woke up and she was dead. I understand so little of what just happened I'm just constantly either disociating or crying. I noticed she was feeling down yesterday, but I figured her leg was just hurting and I didn't force her to sleep with me because she had been choosing to sleep by herself most days and I didn't want to make her uncomfortable. I came down the stairs, knew something was wrong immediately when she didn't come to my call, and found her dead inside the wardrobe. Again, she was only nine and this all feels surreal, how did we go from a bad smell to death? We can only make up theories of what happened. She had no blood on her nose or signs of external hemorrhaging, our biggest suspect is just a blood clot, or sepsis from such a resisting bacteria, which can also result in a blood clot anyway. We'll know a bit more in a couple of weeks when the studies on her finger are back, but we'll never know for sure if what made her tiny little body shut down so unexpectedly. If you've read this far, thank you. I have a partner who was her second human parent and we're both gutted, but I still can't help mourning the special connection I had with her and the time I feel she was robbed. She was doing so, so much better after getting rid of that pesky finger. She deserved so much better. I blame myself for anything I can think of, and I have a very active imagination.
I miss her every second.
I'm gonna wait some time before adopting my next cat, but to be honest I can't help but still be in love with siamese cats. Would that be a horrible idea? Has anyone adopted the same breed for their second baby, does it only make you miss them more? Nothing can even replace my baby, I'm biased towards that breed.

2024.06.01 13:25 TimeAggravating364 How to clean old cats paws

My old tuxedo lady (15 years) has some health issues and gets medication for them. Unfortunately since she's on these meds she frequently has diarrhea which also means that she gets parts of her stool stuck on mostly her back paws. She also doesn't clean her paws as frequent as she used to.
My question is should I clean her paws and if yes how can i effectively clean them without stressing her out too much. Trying to put her into the bathtub or clean her with running water will only result in her trying to claw her way out of whoever is holding her which makes me afraid she'll hurt herself trying to get away. Not to mention the stress she's gonna be in.

2024.06.01 13:23 olduglysweater Anxiety post parent loss...

I want to preface this by saying that help is on the way, and I'm getting medication help and talk therapy next week. Just felt like venting. So I had a MASSIVE panic attack few days ago after so long, which was my sign to go do that. I know you're normally supposed to treat those things, but I thought I had things under control until my mom died last month.
She always had lousy health issues to the point where I'd just become indifferent anytime she'd go to the ER for her chronic pain acting up. Until she stayed longer each time, then this time...gone. She had more going on than anyone knew it seems.
Being the oldest and the one who dealt with her the most in her final years, it just blew me out the water, because you're never ready when a parent or caregiver leaves you. Ironically I was oddly calm the day she passed although I hate, loathe hospitals. Her relatives encouraged me to not be home by myself the day she passed, but I just wanted to be by myself. Still calm.
Then last week like a dormant volcano everything I've buried just came spewing out; and my anxiety came hard: palpitations, tremors, vertigo, nausea, exhaustion, sleep issues, derealization, add my allergies in there and my type 2 diabetes with not eating enough...nightmare doesn't even describe it. Then one night I was really tired to the point I didn't know I dozed off....
OMG FUCK NOCTURNAL PANIC ATTACKS. Fuck them with a rusty weed whacker. That was probably the most scared I've ever been to the point I had to call the EMT, because I really felt my usual coping methods didn't help me. I thought I was going to die. I calmed down when they came and didn't have to go to the hospital, but I was shook and that made me go get help the next day.
I feel like I'll have to be put on something strong, because I can't function. Even right now my anxiety is waiting to sucker punch me outta nowhere when I eat, sleep, etc. I'm living in fear of fear until next week and it's the worst. Even worse, I've no one around me who can comfort me in person immediately. My sister is here and is 15 years younger than me, and even though she's clearly struggling, she's never been the type to believe in psychiatry (yeah, she's not bright) so she's not going to be much help.
That and my mom's memorial is next Sunday, we still yet to receive her ashes because we still haven't cremated her, because we didn't raise enough money. We have to call on the city to help, which is sad because my mom was there for a lot of her family but no one else could help her?? . Then there's going through the rest of her things to donate or keep. Then there's moving out the apartment we shared. I don't want to move for financial reasons, but it's clear that it's happening despite what I think. And whether we have enough money to or not.
I desperately need to be strong. I just wish I could have some magical being lay their hands on my head and heal my brain. I feel so broken, tired and incapable. I miss my mom. I miss how things used to be. 😭

If I'm low health/water etc - rather than food/water etc ... I go in for a quick naked suicidal run

2024.06.01 13:18 Leap-store The Importance of Electrolytes for Hydration and Exercise Performance

Staying adequately hydrated is a fundamental aspect of maintaining overall health and supporting optimal physical performance, especially during exercise. Electrolytes play a crucial role in hydration by helping regulate fluid balance and facilitating various physiological processes in the body. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the significance of electrolytes, their role in hydration, and how they impact exercise performance.
Understanding Electrolytes
Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electric charge and are essential for various physiological functions. The major electrolytes in the body include sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, phosphate, and bicarbonate. These minerals are present in bodily fluids, such as blood and urine, and play a pivotal role in maintaining the balance of fluids both inside and outside cells .
The Role of Electrolytes in Hydration
1. Fluid Balance:
Electrolytes help regulate the balance of fluids in and out of cells, tissues, and organs. Sodium and potassium, in particular, play a crucial role in maintaining proper fluid balance .
2. Nerve Function:
Electrolytes are essential for nerve impulse transmission. Sodium and potassium ions contribute to the generation and propagation of nerve signals, influencing muscle contractions and other physiological processes .
3. Muscle Function:
Proper muscle function relies on the balance of electrolytes. Calcium and sodium are involved in muscle contraction, while potassium helps in muscle relaxation .
4. pH Regulation:
Electrolytes contribute to maintaining the body's acid-base balance, which is vital for optimal cellular function. Bicarbonate, for example, helps regulate the pH of bodily fluids .

Electrolytes and Exercise
When you engage in physical activity, especially intense or prolonged exercise, your body loses fluids through sweat. Sweat is not just water; it also contains electrolytes. The loss of these minerals can impact hydration status and potentially hinder performance. Here's how electrolytes influence exercise:
1. Hydration Status:
Electrolytes help the body absorb and retain water. In the absence of sufficient electrolytes, the body may struggle to maintain proper hydration, leading to dehydration .
2. Preventing Hyponatremia:
Hyponatremia is a condition characterized by low blood sodium levels, often associated with excessive fluid intake during prolonged exercise. Adequate sodium intake helps prevent this imbalance .
Ensuring Electrolyte Balance During Exercise
To optimize hydration and performance, consider the following strategies:
1. Stay Hydrated:
Drink fluids before, during, and after exercise to replace lost fluids and electrolytes. Water alone may be sufficient for shorter durations, but for prolonged or intense exercise, consider beverages that provide electrolytes .
2. Electrolyte-Rich Foods:
Include foods rich in potassium (e.g., bananas, oranges) and magnesium (e.g., nuts, seeds) in your pre- and post-exercise meals to support electrolyte balance .
3. Sports Drinks:
For prolonged or intense exercise, especially in a hot environment, consider sports drinks that provide a combination of carbohydrates and electrolytes to fuel energy and replace losses .
4. Individual Needs:
Recognize that individual electrolyte needs vary based on factors such as body weight, sweat rate, and environmental conditions. Adjust your intake accordingly .
Conclusion
Electrolytes are essential for hydration and play a pivotal role in supporting various physiological functions, especially during exercise. Maintaining proper electrolyte balance is crucial for preventing dehydration, muscle cramps, and other issues that can compromise performance. Whether through dietary choices, hydration strategies, or sports drinks, prioritizing electrolyte balance is key to unlocking your full potential during physical activity.
Incorporating electrolyte-rich foods and beverages into your routine, understanding individual hydration needs, and staying mindful of electrolyte losses during exercise can contribute to a well-hydrated and high-performing body.

2024.06.01 13:06 6exologist Completed the game. An honest review

Completed the game. An honest review
So i just completed the game on hard mode on my laptop. Started the day it launched.
Completed all side missions, shrines, all fox dens, liberated all areas, did all haikus, hot springs and bamboos.
Graphics: First of all the game is absolutely stunning visually. this is literally a screen shot simulator. my gallery is filled with stills from the game. Amazing game honestly.
Gameplay: Initially the game felt tough with a low health bar and resolve bar, i approached mongol territories with caution and did a lot of assassinations but halfway through the act 2 i had enough practice to just jumprighto into the middle of territories and just kill whoever approached. it does get repetitive and feels really easy eventually.
Duels: The only duel i struggled with was the heavenly strike one. probably died like 30 times on it. every other duel felt really easy. ryuzo was a breeze, kojiro was probably the easiest duel imo , you just spam the heavy attack on (stone or water stance? idr) and he dies easily. once you get a hold of parry and dodge every duel feels easy. i did all duels within 1-2 deaths max.
Shrines: Man i really don't like how abnormally long these take to complete. it's a pain in the ass but the views at the end are worth it in some of them.
Fox dens, haikus, Hot springs: Nothing much to say about these, dens could have been shorter but not complaining.
i maxed out all armors, weapons and techniques there are.
One major annoyance was the inability to skip cut scenes. there are way too many of them and i don't like it. i agree they're good for you to understand the story but those little cut scenes after rescuing prisoners and all could have been left out.
In conclusion this is a game worth playing. i like it even better than rdr2 because honestly i got tired of using guns in every single game I'd play. using swords felt different and better. this game will leave you stunned with its graphics and smoothness. it's extremely well optimized and well done in every aspect. Gameplay can become repetitive after some time but it didn't manage to bore me out. overall this was an excellent game and gave me a great experience. I'd recommend it to everyone tbh.
