Prices raised but commission lowered

2024.05.14 23:56 AbyssJumping77 Prices raised but commission lowered

Some background, I was unemployed for 4 months because I had to leave my last job due to what happened to me. It's left me with very little trust and I went into a severe depression after what happened... so I know I'm not in the best mind frame.
I accepted an esthetics position almost an hour away from where I live. The position is in Westchester. Pay is $120 for the day, 20% on services and 10% on products. Okay, I felt that was decent. I only trained with her for 2 weeks at maybe 3 days a week because I have 12 years experience and she really needed me on the schedule. I was very excited to start, but felt uneasy after I had to sit and watch almost 5 facials 1 day, but whatever, she's type A control, methodical and I need a damn job.
I started taking clients and realized how inexpensive services are. $85 for a regular facial, $115 for a vitamin C peel, etc. My waxing services are also not that expensive. Mind you, my specialty is waxing, and she knows this. I was very disappointed and I felt that since I have a lot of experience, my services should be a little more. She has a tier system, and I was placed at tier 1. Tier 2, is the services range from $10- $20 more. On top of the obvious duties of performing services, we're also reception. So we do emails, phone calls, scheduling, check in/out, cleaning, inventory and stocking. Okay, fine. It's a lot but it is what it is. I also found a letter from the old employee I replaced saying she did not want to enter a contract with my employer to be placed up a tier. That definitely didn't sit well with me. No one should have to be contracted to receive a raise if they're doing good work.
Anyway, this lady has been saying she's increasing service prices and products... okay cool, maybe I'll start to get a little more mula and I'll stick with this as long as I can, because the commute isn't for me anymore but again, survival. We have our meeting for her to fill us in on pricing, she didn't necessarily say how much services were going up, but I'd venture to say anywhere from $10-$20...because anything more would be a massive jump. She's dropping our service commission. Instead of 20% we will all be at 18%. Then said that allows room for growth so maybe in a year we can go up to 19% and longer, 20%.
Thank God I called out because I would've kicked this woman in her camel and left. I was on the meeting via phone because I called out sick, and still did this fucking meeting. I've had it. I feel so disgusted and disrespected at this point by people in this industry. We're keeping our 10% on products which is also going up, but it doesn't sit right with me. Aside from the other 2 women I work with being there maybe 2 years...thats shitty. But as for me, a 12 year veteran wjth extensive knowledge and skill, who you have received nothing but amazing reviews about, who can do a Brazilian in less than 20 minutes with soft wax, who's trained on manzillians, who's absolutely killing products sales.... you fuckin selfish bitch. That's how I feel. I feel beyond betrayed and looked down. And I've just fucking had it.
And the woman has hyped us up about making more money for over 2 weeks... seriously

2024.05.13 17:46 Middle_Violinist_5 What are the origins of pubic hair fashion, such as, "landing strips", triangles, etc?

I was recently looking into waxing, and of course various waxing salons offer bikini/brazilian waxing with the option of leaving a triangle or "landing strip".
I began to wonder, how did this come to be? seeing that pubic hair is not really something people talk to others about.

This post is just me venting to the galaxy...
Just added all the dollar prices for the complete series of books, three colors and all, found in Amazon, E-Bay, Tiendamia. To bring them to my country today is over 12,000 BRL (Brazilian Real) including taxes, ouch!
It's about 2,300 USD, so this value waxes and wanes for us.
Just as a comparison, the minimum monthly wage in Brazil today is exactly 1,412 BRL or 271, 53 USD.
Is it THIS expensive to you, as well, to get this system's books?

2024.05.13 11:05 saltedeggwingslover So thankful for Brazilian Wax services

I always do mine sa Laybare (I know, a lot will disagree, but I realized depende siya sa branch and wax professionals. Personally, I love the Gateway and C&B Branch). I love how they take care of my 🐱 and ensure that I’m not hurt. Super linis pa ng waxing, pati sa underarm.
Ang problem ko lang now is paano ako magiging fresh palagi pagdating sa face. I have very oily skin, so medyo mahirap gawan ng paraan. Kahit yung Clean & Clear tsaka Gatsby blotting papers hindi umuubra. Kaka-pat ko lang sa mukha, maya-maya meron na naman 🥲

2024.05.12 05:24 Huge-Nobody2363 Bikini waxing & the beach..

Hi! I’m planning on getting a bikini wax- Brazilian (with a landing strip) on Monday(13th) & planning to go to the beach on Saturday(18th). I have eczema (sensitive skin) & curly hair (prone to ingrowns despite using the scrub/exfoliater & moisturizer for your private) .. is that enough time to ‘heal’ to go to the beach?
I haven’t scheduled my appointment yet- I want to make sure I have enough time for my pores to properly close to enjoy the beach. Would it be better to just shave & get a wax after the beach?
Thanks for your advice.

About to schedule my first Brazilian wax and I am terrified of the pain… on a scale from 1-10, how bad does it hurt?
Let me just say I am such a wuss with the lowest pain tolerance… I’m trying to remind myself that I’ve had two c-sections. Surely it can’t be as bad as the recovery from that. 🫠
Any advice?

2024.05.11 19:14 Professional-Bee-482 Any tips on how to get Brazilian clients to also get facials?

My books are filled decently for only being at my spa for six months. I love waxing but I don’t want to become just the waxing esthetician and that’s mostly what my services are. I want to also perform more facials. The other new esthetician that was hired at the same time doesn’t feel comfortable doing bikini or Brazilian waxes and honestly doesn’t want to so she is not open for that service. So I’m seeing that she is getting more facial clients and I believe that is part of the reason why. Any help that you guys can think of to get more facials on my books?
Also I think I shot myself in the foot. I’ve had dizzy spells for a few months and due to that reason, my job stopped my training on dermaplaning out of safety for the clients. The other girl is opened for it and I also believe that’s why she is getting more facial clients because I’m not open for dermaplaning 🫠

2024.05.11 15:21 D-Biggest_Wheel (1114 Spoilers) The Power of the Sun, in the Palm of a Hand

It’s such an “Oda thing” to make something called Mother Flame quite literally be a flame, and a tiny one at that, but beneath this seemingly straight-forward design lays a much, MUCH deeper meaning (which is also very much an Oda thing). I don’t think people realize just how intrinsically tied The Mother Flame and its creator Dr. Vegapunk are to the very source of life on Earth – the Sun. After all, Vegapunk’s other namesake, “Stella”, quite literally translates to “Star” or "Sun".
https://preview.redd.it/1h9zswyaqszc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=db8a458da80df80b06cb9732833c1862487ac0d3

Dr. Vegapunk’s Origin

I’m sure that by now pretty much everyone is aware that Vegapunk is heavily based on a real life theoretical physicist, Albert Einstein. Old Vegapunk’s design - that of an old man with gray hair, a mustache and a large tongue - is pretty much a 1-to-1 adaptation of Einstein’s appearance, down to even the tongue.
https://preview.redd.it/hdkhb71fqszc1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=9496e3e3afd1048ec3097dfdedd5cf971376bb86
However, Vegapunk isn’t meant to be a simple 1-to-1 adaptation of Einstein, but rather an amalgamation of a bunch of real life scientists. The apple-like lid on Vegapunk’s head is a reference to the famous story of Sir Isaac Newton discovering gravity after an apple fell down on his head. Vegapunk’s goal of providing the world with free energy is something that Nikola Tesla always dreamed of doing. And yet, ironically, the (2nd) most important inspiration behind the character of Vegapunk is actually a not-so real scientist – the mythical inventor Daedalus.
Jacob Peter Gowy's The Fall of Icarus (1635–1637)

The Myth of Daedalus and Icarus

The name of Chapter 1114, “The Wings of Icarus”, is a reference to the famous story of Daedalus and Icarus. According to the Greek mythos, Daedalus was a mythical inventor who created wings made of feathers and wax to escape from Crete (an island) where he and his son, Icarus, were held captive. Icarus, in his arrogance, ignored his father's warnings and, wanting to reach Heaven, flew higher and higher until he got too close to the Sun. His wings melted, and he fell into the sea where he met his end. This is where the saying “he flew too close to the sun” comes from. Interestingly, the myth of Daedalus and Icarus is quite similar to another Greek myth, the fall of Phaethon.
https://preview.redd.it/t2wh6m1kqszc1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=22dbc311551f6718b648ab30a1caf906656a63d5
Phaethon was the son of Apollo, the Greek God of the sun and light who insisted on driving the chariot of the sun. Even though Apollo warned him time and time again that this would bring about his end, Phaethon refused to back down. Eventually, Phaethon got what he wanted, only to realize that he did not have what it takes to control the chariot’s horses and fell down to his death.
In the case of Vegapunk, “flying too close to the Sun” would be a metaphor for him studying the Poneglyphs and learning about the Void Century which is what eventually gets him killed. However, when Vegapunk talks about flying too close to the Sun the panel of Mother Flame appears on the page. I believe this is because Mother Flame is quite literally a piece of the Sun.
Chapter 1114

The Mother Flame

When talking about the real life scientist that inspired Vegapunk’s character, I purposefully left out one - J. Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was a theoretical physicist often called the “father of the atomic bomb” due to his contribution to its development.
Drawing by \"u/Stich_kun_draws\"
The Atom(ic) bomb got its name due to the process known as “Nuclear Fission” in which an atom is split into smaller nuclei, releasing a VERY LARGE amount of (nuclear) energy (which then makes the bomb go “boom”). Another process from which nuclear energy is derived is “Nuclear Fusion.)”. Like its name suggests, fusion is the opposite process of fission in which two or more atomic nuclei combine to form one or more different atomic nuclei. It’s the process used in Thermonucleafusion weapons, second-generation nuclear weapon design, and, more importantly, nuclear fusion is how the Sun generates its energy.
A diagram of fusion in the Sun
What Vegapunk created wasn’t the flame we saw but rather the container (the “tank of water”) in which it is located. The flame - a piece of the sun - is the energy source whose power is then harvested and contained in the machine and which is then used to power the weapon known as the “Mother Flame”.
Mother Flame next to a basic diagram of a thermonuclear weapon. The A&Mu on the machine is a pun for “Atom”. In Japanese you can read “&”as “to”, which then makes it “Atomu”
This would explain Vegapunk’s willingness to create such a thing. You see, nuclear power - besides generating A LOT of energy - is one of the cleanest, sustainable energy sources as it reduces carbon emissions. If Vegapunk wanted to create a power source to fuel the entire world which is sinking due to man-made causes, then harnessing the power of the sun is the way to go. And just like in real life, such a powerful invention is destined to be used as a weapon of mass destruction.

The Ancient Weapon Uranus

The moment we got our first look at the Mother Flame in Chapter 1060, we had people theorize it was the yet-to-be revealed Ancient Weapon Uranus. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after the latest Chapter I think it would be hard to imagine a weapon more fitting to an “Ancient Weapon” moniker. The only question now is; which one is the weapon - the power source (flame) or the machine it powers? I’m pretty confident in what the answer is, but I want to walk you through my train of thoughts first.
https://preview.redd.it/kcgn4awyqszc1.png?width=1535&format=png&auto=webp&s=c568d08d67e94d3190c25ec48f93e3c36c50bd74
We know that the “Great Kingdom” was an ancient civilization which 900 years ago had a technology even more advanced than the one of today. We also know that the Twenty Kings/Kingdoms, that would eventually form the World Government of today, united in the common cause of destroying the said Kingdom by the end of the Void Century, 800 years ago. However, “just because you shot Jesse James, doesn’t make you Jesse James”; just because they defeated the Great Kingdom doesn’t mean they can properly utilize their technology. This is where Vegapunk comes in.
Vegapunk is the first and only person to successfully recreate the technology from the Great Kingdom. The Five Elders value his work so much that they are willing to compromise on many different occasions, most recently seen with Mars avoiding destroying Punk Records in the fear of losing The Mother Flame. If he were to destroy it, then there would be no guarantee that another of its kind could be created. That’s precisely why I believe that the Ancient Weapon that we know by the name of Uranus is the little flame we see inside the machine - the source of the machine’s power.

The Lunarians

Luna” is a Latin word for "moon" and in fiction, the term "Lunarian" is sometimes used to describe the inhabitants of the moon, but despite all this, there has yet to be any indication that Lunarians actually originate from it. When Enel learns the history of the Sky People in his Cover Story (Enel's Great Space Operations), Lunarians cannot be found among the tribes, which possess distinctive wings on their backs as well, that came from the Moon.
Chapter 470 Cover Story - Lunarians are nowhere to be seen
Furthermore, Lunarian biology is rather unique when compared to that of Sky People, to put it lightly. They possess tremendous vitality and resilience to harm that borders on invulnerability, allowing them to thrive in any natural environment alongside the ability to generate and manipulate fire. In the world of One Piece, we have seen with the Fish-men that these intrinsic characteristics are born out of necessity, as Fish-men are said to possess ten times the physical strength of normal humans to survive the underwater pressure.
So why would Lunarians have such resilience, while the Sky People don't, if they indeed both originate from the Moon? Is it because Lunarians don’t originate from the Moon but rather from the Sun? Their night-invulnerability and fire manipulation could be a natural evolution born out of necessity to survive the harsh heat of the sun.
https://preview.redd.it/jkllhrg6rszc1.png?width=820&format=png&auto=webp&s=fdff3491c55de46c243e75b5e1b864caca4b5fe0
I know what you are thinking; even for One Piece it is silly for anyone to be able to survive the heat of 15 million degrees Celsius (!), but that is the heat of the Sun’s core. The heat of the Sun’s surface is “only” 5,500 degrees C which is around the heat of Earth’s core (5,200-6,000 degrees) and around 20 times hotter than the hottest lava. I can totally see Lunarians feasibly surviving that in a world where a normal person can just fly to the moon, breath in space, and not freeze to death in the process. Or maybe I’m thinking too big. Maybe they just came from a Planet that is very close to the Sun.
The Lunarians might have, at one point in time, lived on the Moon where they got their name from, but they originate from the Sun from where they brought a piece of it – the Mother Flame.
Chapter 472 Cover Story

Conclusion

One last myth I wanted to mention is about Prometheus. Prometheus is one of the Titans and a god of fire, best known for defying the Olympian gods by stealing fire from them and giving it to humanity in the form of technology, knowledge, and more generally, civilization. He is also sometimes presented as the father of Deucalion, the hero of the flood story, which I feel is quite relevant with the recent revelation of the One Piece’s world sinking. I do not know exactly who is meant to represent Prometheus but it’s very likely that the Mother Flame was stolen from the inhabitants of Great Kingdom, 800 years ago when the 20 Kings united to destroy it, and then finally used in the present to re-shape the world.
https://preview.redd.it/nby7prdbrszc1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=c6f9daef049e6ceb09e2136425f83a473dc2aae9
I do not think that it’s a coincidence that Vegapunk designed Seraphims after Lunarians and that Oda named them after the highest order of Angels in Christian angelology, nor do I think that the name of Chapter 1114 (Wings of Icarus) is just some random creative decision. Everything so far points toward the Lunarians being the ones that brought the Mother Flame from the Sun – and with it technology and knowledge – before having it stolen during the Void Century.

Tl;dr

The Mother Flame is a literal piece of the Sun, brought to Earth by Lunarians, and an analogy of a nuclear PoweWeapon. In order to create a source of endless energy for the world, Vegapunk harnessed the power of the flame, which was then used to power the Ancient Weapon Uranus.

They might have, at one point in time, lived on the Moon where they got their name from, but they originate from the Sun from where they brought a piece of it – the Mother Flame.

I do not think that it’s a coincidence that Vegapunk designed Seraphims after Lunarians and that Oda named them after the highest order of Angels in Christian angelology, nor do I think that the name of Chapter 1114 (Wings of Icarus) is just some random creative decision. Including Vegapunk’s other namesake, “Stella”, which can be translated to “sun”, everything so far points toward the Lunarians being the ones that brought the Mother Flame from the Sun – and with it technology and knowledge – before having it stolen during the Void Century.

2024.05.10 20:32 supinecherry Clear, thick hairs after sugar waxing?

Hey everyone,
I've been sugaring at home since last August and it's been great. I sugar pretty much everywhere and generally have smooth and soft skin now, except for one problem.
I do Brazilian sugar waxing on myself and I remove all the hair from that area. But what I've noticed is that after I sugar that area specifically, I don't feel smooth. Even though it looks smooth it feels like i have a lot of stubble there and it was driving me crazy.
I noticed that when I shined a light in that area I could see these translucent, shiny, clear hairs. I can pull them out but they are super difficult to pull out (they are really strong) and they hurt a lot. When I do pull them out they have a thick, white root. They aren't coming out with my dark hairs during a sugaring session.
I've been sugaring since August and I just started noticing these about a month ago. It also doesnt happen anywhere except that one area. Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone help me figure out why I'm getting these weird hairs 😭

2024.05.10 18:28 canadiangiraffegirl Waxing

I’m hoping there might be an esthetician in here would could provide some insight.
I’ve been getting Brazilian waxes off and on for close to 10 years. Normally it lasts about 4 weeks before I feel the need to go get another one.
I just started getting Brazilians again and I noticed the wax is not lasting as long as it used to, I just got one done 5 days ago and I can already see and feel hair growing back. I’m wondering if my waxer isn’t using proper technique and is breaking the hair off rather than pulling it out? Is there any other reason I’m seeing thick stubby hair growing out rather than the thin soft hair that normally grows back when you get a Brazilian?

2024.05.10 04:48 esthiemalachite Any waxers don't do Brazilians

I'm just curious to know if there are any successful waxers that don't do Brazilians. I'm in houston and many esties tell me that they keep the lights on. I can do them id just prefer not lol. I'm had a friend be like "I get my whole body waxed so why would I go to you I'd you don't do everything.". I've been thinking about specializing in brows to avoid intimate areas but with facials being so expensive I wonder if I'll be shooting myself in the foot.

2024.05.09 22:13 Frosty-Resort-4163 [hair removal] prone to ingrown hairs in Brazilian wax area. Please help!

I am prone to awful ingrowns in my pubic area and I’m feeling defeated. I’ve tried everything. I am extremely fair and have sensitive, dry skin. I get a Brazilian wax every 3-4 weeks from an esthetician who knows what she’s doing. I follow the post-wax instructions for 48 hrs (no exercise/sex, wear loose breathable clothing / undergarments, avoid hot water, wait 48 hrs to exfoliate, etc.) On a regular basis I wear breathable cotton undies, I change and shower right after I exercise (I heard that not doing that can cause ingrowns,) I use a physical exfoliant 2-3 x / week that was provided by my esthetician. I shower and keep that area moisturized on a daily basis. I feel like I’m doing everything I’m supposed to, but it’s a jungle of ingrowns down there. I hate that every time I look down, it’s a sea of red, inflamed bumps. I am guilty of picking at them from time to time. It’s not even just ingrowns. It’s like almost every pore gets plugged with keratin and buildup and can be popped. I have keratosis pilaris on my arms, so I wonder if that’s what is going on. Any advice or suggestions I would greatly appreciate

2024.05.09 04:03 Surviving3kids Help with clitoral numbness

Okay so basically, im late 20s. Started vaginal estradiol (tiny increments every other day and rub it on clitoris) for vaginal atrophy. And I’m on metformin 4 pills a day. I noticed my clitoris doesn’t have the same stimulation as before a Brazilian waxing. At first I thought they damaged a nerve because it felt numb down there . Although I can cum during oral from my partner and I can cum from self stimulation. The feeling isn’t the same and isn’t as intense as prior to all this . I was freaking out and went to all my doctors and they said estradiol should actually INCREASE feeling and metformin shouldn’t cause numbing . I’m so confused and sad from this. Any suggestions.

2024.05.08 16:51 Independent-Click999 Paper-like cuts on labia

I got a Brazilian wax on 05/02/24. I had sex with my boyfriend probably too soon after, and noticed peeing REALLY burned after sex.
I’ve noticed two cuts that look like paper cuts on my labia and one near the vaginal opening. They’ve bled a little and now everything just itches.
I don’t know what they’re from. Could they be from waxing or sex? Also, I googled and read that a yeast infection could cause them as well. Lastly, bloodwork revealed last year that I have HSV II, but my OBGYN told me there’s a chance I don’t even have HSV II because apparently bloodwork is inconsistent when testing for it. And to my knowledge I have never had a flare up.

2024.05.08 05:36 Specialist-Draw571 Folliculitis after Brazilian Wax

I got a Brazilian wax back in February and ended up with awful, painful, fluid- filled bumps. I went to urgent care the next morning once I realized the severity of the rash. They told me it was a staph infection (notes stated folliculitis). They said that it could have been due to unclean practices at the waxing place; however, I go to the same person every time and they always do a great job and are very sanitary. I am also a very sanitary and hygienic person (I have severe OCD). My question is, what are the chances that the next time I get waxed, it will happen again? I haven’t been been waxed since then, because I’m scared of it happening again. I had been waxed at least 4-5 times prior to it occurring, with no issues. Is this usually a reoccurring problem or just a freak thing that happened?
