2024.05.14 16:36 EXCAVATIONGoldSrcMod Programmer needed for an ambitious Half-Life 1/GoldSrc mod

The project's YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/@EXCAVATION_mod/videos
EXCAVATION will be a short high production quality total conversion single player sci-fi mod set on Mars. The story takes place in the farther future, at a small privately owned complex on Mars set to excavate an object of an extraterrestrial origin. The complex has a staff of 8 scientists: 6 diggers, 1 excavation supervisor and 1 administrator... The object is a device, a multi-biosphere annihilator capable of wiping all life in the Solar System. In the present time, these scientists are trying to activate now excavated annihilator, urgently. There are military robots positioned throughout the complex guarding it against anyone who may try to stop these people.
You play as a Mars SWAT equivalent operative, in a team of 4, responding to a possible hostage situation. Upon landing your craft will be shot down and as the sole survivor you'll meet a dying Black Being, which will give you a small device and tell you what is beneath the complex and why you should destroy it.
In order to speed up the mod's development, we're looking for a second programmer. The coding tasks include coding the HUD, weapons, npcs etc. The protagonist will carry only 3 weapons, the assault rifle that has a sniper mode, shotgun and a teaser pistol. There will be only one enemy combatant type, a humanoid military robot...
Experience with GoldSrc engine is of course great but perhaps it is not necessary. In any case, you would need to learn on your own how to code for this engine. As the project lead, I can pay $5/h, tiny but something at least. PayPal only. Those willing to join the development free of charge are preferred.

2024.05.14 16:26 Hollownerox With the Grand Plan of Penacony's antagonist revealed in 2.2. How do you think it stacks up against similar plots in other anime/games?

With Sunday and the Dreammaster's plan being your classic Lotus-Eater Machine plan, with Ena's Dream of Order being the forced paradise onto everyone type of deal, I was wondering how people thought it compares to similar schemes in media. Now that we had a little time to digest it.
It's a pretty common trope these days, but I will say I was surprised Honkai Star Rail pulled this one off so early in its plotline. Usually these kind of schemes are THE end goal that concludes the entire storyline of a series, rather than it being a singular arc.
For some examples in other series I can think of off the top of my head:
Personally I thought given the limitations they had to work with, it was pretty well-done for the most part. The end goal was something a lot of folks called the moment Penacony was revealed as a dreamscape. Since that sort of setting is just prime material for this sort of thing. But I think what sets out Star Rail's version of this is the way it tied in with "heart" of the protagonists so to speak. That they centered everything so well with the ethos of Trailblazing through Mikhail and the Astral Express crew to clash with the vision of Order turned what could have easily been a pretty standard "No bad guy, people shouldn't stay in dreams, they need to live in reality!" hero debate into something genuinely compelling with themes particular to this game.
It also helps that they did a pretty damn good job of fleshing out Sunday as a character, and his voicelines in the final boss fight (particularly his spin on the Book of Genesis in the final phase) really put some other antagonists (not necessarily villains mind, there's a difference) to shame. And I really liked all the more subtle elements they used to convey this narrative, like Sunday appearing as a Conductor that guides people to his idea of happiness, while Mikhail and the Trailblaze was represntted via a clock/compass that just nudged people in the right direction, rather than dictate where they must go. I always appreciate a story that doesn't insult the audiences' intelligence and lets folks read between the lines. Despite some bugbears I have here and there, I think everything was tied together pretty nicely overall.
So I'd say it's better than a good number of other attempts, but not quite up there with say Cosmo Entellecheia from Negima. But that's with the caveat that we're comparing a manga that had literal years to build up to that plotpoint, while Honkai Star Rail had maybe 18ish hours to sell it to the player. So I think you have to give them credit for what they had to work with.
So what do you guys think of Star Rail's execution of it? Enjoyed it, didn't enjoy it? What do you think was done well, and what do you think could have been improved?

2024.05.14 16:22 lykwydchykyn WTT/WTS: A Pedal-licious Pile of Hoopy Homestyle! Drives, Filters, Amps, and Fuzz, plug'em in and feel the love.

Spring is winding down, summer's on it's way; would love to get a little cash to fund the summer fun (and the next parts order). Still, trades are always on the table. Don't be shy with the cheapies.
TLDR
I got:
I want:
DIY STUFF
(If you are NOT into handmade stuff, scroll down because I have some other items at the end.)
This is hand-built stuff that I made, mostly relatively unique or heavily tweaked designs built on vero or point to point. Many are housed in upcycled tins, a few in Hammond boxes. They all run on standard 9v pedal power. These aren't clones for the most part, unless they are; but normally I actually monkey about with the circuits quite a bit or just test out wacky ideas. If you want something nobody else has, you're in the right place…
I have the handmades valued in 4 tiers:
MOBILE USERS: There are 4 columns in the tables below: Name, Tier, Links, and Notes. If you don't see all 4, scroll over or ask for more info.
Fuzzes
Name Tier Links Notes
Bazz Me Fuss You #1 A PIC DEMO A bazz-fussified perversion of the Escobedo push-me-pull-you, featuring controls for octave and volume. This is the first unit I've built using my own custom PCB. Housed in a painted 125B with top jacks.
Space Fuzz B+ PIC DEMO This is a Hollis crash sync fuzz that I souped up with an LFO to modulate the filtesync frequency. Really wild flangery/phasey type gated fuzz sound. At the right settings you can get some octave-down effects as well. Housed in a ~3.5 inch square game tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Pretty pleased with this build.
SwirlFuzz B+ PIC DEMO Modulated octave fuzz prototype. It's an octave fuzz, but you can switch on an LFO to modulate the octave amount. Controls for Rate, Depth, Gain, and Volume, plus switches for waveshape and mode (Normal/Octave/Modulated). In a circular tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Baller Fuzz B PIC DEMO Another Bazz-Me-Fuss-You build with an added BMP-style tone control. In a slightly beaten-up heart-shaped basketball tin. Y'all ready for this?
Big Green Fuzz for Attractive Bass Players B PIC Demo Like my bazz-me-fuss-you circuit, but with a big muff tone stack, a clean blend, and optional clippers for more compression. Housed in a big round tin reinforced with recycled plastic and designed specifically for attractive bass players. Unattractive ones may not really gel with this.
Creature from the planet Chyowngg B PIC Demo Prototype of a unique fuzz I've been developing that I call the Chyowngg fuzz. It's a 2-stage octaver that gives a bright synthy tone with a distinctive envelope (hence the name). You can toggle each stage from octave to non-octave mode for a variety of interesting timbres. Also has a tone control, but the tone control is before the octave stages so it results in interesting behaviors depending on the switch settings. It's in a tin meant to be painted like an alien, though some say it looks more like a triceratops.
Dumbo's Bazzrite Fussrite C PIC Demo A bazz-fussified mosrite fuzzrite circuit I cobbled together in point-to-point wiring style. Housed in a little Dumbo puzzle tin with GLITTER! Controls are for balance (kind of tone-cum-gain) and volume.
Wiff Spwinkles on Top C PIC Demo This point-to-point fuzz lives in the same neighborhood as the Harmonic Percolator, but has a few differences. I altered the way the gain knob works, and added a switch to toggle bass cut. It's housed in an ice-creamity welly tin.
Drives, Distortions, and Boosts
Name Tier Links Notes
Bronze Drive A PIC Demo This is a point-to-point, transistor based overdrive I designed based loosely on the Davisson Easy Drive. Good for low-gain crunchy tones and plenty of output volume on tap if you want it for a boost. Tone circuit is like a BMP stack but with a mid hump instead of a mid cut. Housed in a painted 125B.
Copper ZenerMorph Drive B PIC Demo This is an experiment in zener diode clipping. Nice crispy drive that gets beefier as you turn up the gain, lots of good edge-of-breakup tones to be had. Housed in a decorated tin reinforced with some recycled plastic.
Shining Hope Drive B PIC Demo Differential mirroring drive, gives a kind of overdriven-mixer-channel distortion. Controls for gain, tone, and volume. Housed in a star-shaped Christmas tin.
B is for Beast C PIC DEMO This fun little drive/boost consists of two cascading MOSFET gain stages with optional clipping in between. It goes from clean and loud to massive wall-of-gain distortion nicely. Controls for gain, clipping, and volume. In a small heart-shaped tin about 4in by 4in.
Green Sparkler Boost D PIC Just an Escobedo Duende JFET boost built point-to-point in a sparkly little round tin. Gives a little gain and a bit of warmth to the tone.
Non-Dirt
Name Tier Links Notes
Quack like a penguin B+ PIC DEMO Third build of the Chykka Wakka, a WIP all-transistor envelope filter. This one is built on vero, and features controls for Q, Range, and Attack, as well as toggles for Voicing and envelope smoothing. Housed in a smallish penguin tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Gift of Chykka Wakka B PIC DEMO First build of an all-transistor envelope filter I designed. Built point-to-point style and housed in a little giftbox tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Controls for Q and Sweep, switch toggles envelope smoothing.
Vortex of Funk B PIC DEMO Second build of the Chykka-Wakka circuit, this one features attack, Q, and range controls. Built point-to-point and housed in a painted tin.
BZZZ BOOP BEEP B PIC DEMO A basic square wave oscillator on a momentary switch. Can go from bzzz to boop to beep with a sweep of the big knob. Also has tone and volume controls, and a 3-way switch for different decay amounts. Use it to simulate a spring door stopper or dying cow. Or bleep your foul-mouthed frontman. Or mess with the sound guy. Or send Morse code to the bar. I dunno. Housed in a painted tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Little Amps
Name Price/Trades Links Description
Ample iMank $65 PICS DEMO This is a Runoffgroove Ruby Amplifier built into this old multimedia speaker enclosure designed to look like an old iMac. Glows blue when you turn it on. It runs from a standard 9v pedal power. It's not terribly loud, nor terribly clean, but if you dig the classic mac vibe it might be fun. Controls for gain and volume, and a power switch on the back.
Nosy Amp $75 PICS DEMO Another solid-state amp based on the Ruby amplifier, housed in a repurposed bookshelf speaker. This one actually has pretty decent volume, even on 9V (can run on 12V as well for more), and can stay clean while getting loud enough for a quiet jam with friends.
Fleur-de-Lis Amp $90 PICS DEMO A tiny bookshelf speaker turned into a practice amp. This one features a class D power amp for lovely cleans, and a custom designed discrete preamp that gets punchy & crunchy when cranked. Runs on 9V but pretty loud nonetheless.
Non-DIY Stuff
Make an offer. I respect Reverb Price Guide values, though I may lean high if it's a feeler.
Brand Name Condition Notes
Danelectro Fab Chorus Excellent Cheap plastic chorus, but sounds great. Probably just a make-weight, too cheap to trade on its own.
Caline 10-band EQ Good Works fine, I just don't really need 10 bands of EQ. Has velcro on the back, and sometimes makes a weird noise when you turn on the pedalboard. Another make-weight.
Ibanez PH7 Good Tonelok phaser. Great pedal, has some glue on the bottom I couldn't get off, but works fine.
BOSS TU-12H Good Crusty vintage tuner from Boss. Still works great, but it's missing the outer case (still has the inner part). If you had one in the day and want to relive the magic, feel free to make an offer.
Digitech RP360 Very Good Great multifx, I've gotten some fun sounds out of it, but it isn't seeing much use. I'm just more of a discrete FX guy I guess.
MOTU MIDI express Good This is an antique MIDI patchbay and interface. It's pre-USB and uses the parallel cable (PC) or some kind of Apple-specific DIN cable (Mac). Could be used standalone, or maybe you're into retro MIDI setups? Comes with box and cables anyway.
unknown builder PedalPCB Cataclysm Very Good This is a really solid build of a PedalPCB cataclysm (Disaster Transport Jr clone) built by someone other than me. Pics here. Not sure what to value it, but make an offer.
Local (Nashville TN area) ONLY
Brand Name Condition Notes
TEAC A3340S 4-Track Reel-to-Reel Good Cleaned up, oiled up, and in good working order last time I tried it out. Meant to do some analog recording, but just haven't gotten the time or space. Would trade for a decent instrument of some kind. Might even throw in a copy of Craig Anderton's "Home Recording for Musicians", which uses the same unit.
Altec-Lansing Power amp (9442A) Fair 300 W, 2 rack-unit power amp, can work in stereo or bridged mode. Last time I used it one of the channels was a little flaky. Couldn't be bothered to fix it myself. Heavy as all get out, I'll sell for cheap if you're local.
What would I trade for??
I'm wide open to trades for music gear of all kinds and other items of value.
Some Priority Wants:
Other things I'd likely trade for:
Probably not wants (doesn't apply to C or D-tier builds, offer anything for those):
A Note about mods/repairs/custom jobs: Feel free to shoot me your ideas, but probably I'm leaning toward not doing these. Expect to pay/trade way more for something custom than what I ask for the pedals I've already built.

2024.05.14 16:20 PetrZitskiy Navigating Online Casino Bonuses and Offers

Navigating Online Casino Bonuses and Offers
[ Navigating Online Casino Bonuses and Offers ]
Online casinos have revolutionized the gambling industry by offering a plethora of bonuses and promotional offers designed to attract and retain players. For both new and experienced gamblers, understanding how to navigate these bonuses can significantly enhance the online casino experience. This article delves into the various types of online casino bonuses, how to maximize their benefits, and what to watch out for to make the most of your gaming adventure.

Types of Online Casino Bonuses

  1. Welcome Bonuses:
    • Deposit Match Bonuses: The most common form, where the casino matches a percentage of your initial deposit, often 100% up to a certain amount. For example, a 100% match up to $200 means if you deposit $200, you'll receive an additional $200 in bonus funds.
    • No Deposit Bonuses: These are awarded without the need for an initial deposit, allowing players to try out the casino's offerings risk-free. These bonuses are usually smaller but offer a great way to get started.
  2. Free Spins:
    • Often part of a welcome package or a standalone promotion, free spins allow players to spin the reels of specific slot games without using their own money. Winnings from free spins usually come with wagering requirements.
  3. Reload Bonuses:
    • These bonuses are available to existing players when they make subsequent deposits. Casinos often offer a percentage match similar to welcome bonuses but typically at a lower percentage.
  4. Cashback Offers:
    • Cashback promotions return a percentage of the player's losses over a specific period, providing a safety net and encouraging continued play.
  5. Loyalty and VIP Programs:
    • Designed to reward regular players, these programs offer points for every wager made, which can be redeemed for cash, bonuses, or other perks. VIP programs may include additional benefits like personal account managers, exclusive bonuses, and invitations to special events.
  6. Special Promotions:
    • These can include holiday-themed bonuses, game-specific promotions, tournaments, and leaderboard competitions, adding variety and excitement to the gaming experience.

Maximizing the Benefits of Casino Bonuses

  1. Read the Terms and Conditions:
    • Always review the fine print associated with any bonus. Key aspects to look out for include wagering requirements, game restrictions, time limits, and maximum cashout limits. Understanding these terms can help you determine the true value of a bonus.
  2. Wagering Requirements:
    • These requirements dictate how many times you must wager the bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings. Lower wagering requirements are more favorable. For example, a 30x wagering requirement on a $100 bonus means you need to wager $3,000 before withdrawing.
  3. Game Contributions:
    • Not all games contribute equally towards wagering requirements. Slots often contribute 100%, while table games like blackjack and roulette may contribute much less or not at all. Choose games wisely to meet the requirements efficiently.
  4. Timing:
    • Pay attention to the validity period of bonuses. Some offers are only available for a limited time, so plan your play to ensure you can meet the requirements within the given timeframe.
  5. Bonus Codes:
    • Some casinos require entering a bonus code during the deposit process to claim an offer. Make sure to input the correct code to avoid missing out on bonuses.

Pitfalls to Avoid

  1. High Wagering Requirements:
    • Bonuses with excessively high wagering requirements can be difficult to clear, making it harder to withdraw winnings. Evaluate the feasibility of meeting these conditions before accepting a bonus.
  2. Restricted Games:
    • Be aware of games excluded from bonus play or those that contribute minimally towards wagering requirements. Playing restricted games can void your bonus and any associated winnings.
  3. Maximum Bet Limits:
    • Some bonuses come with maximum bet restrictions while playing with bonus funds. Exceeding these limits can result in the forfeiture of your bonus and winnings.
  4. Country Restrictions:
    • Certain bonuses may not be available to players from specific countries. Verify your eligibility before attempting to claim an offer.
  5. Bonus Abuse:
    • Engaging in practices deemed as bonus abuse by the casino, such as creating multiple accounts to claim the same bonus, can lead to account closure and forfeiture of funds.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Navigating online casino bonuses and offers requires a strategic approach and a keen understanding of the terms and conditions. By carefully selecting bonuses, managing wagering requirements, and being aware of potential pitfalls, players can maximize their benefits and enhance their online casino experience. Always remember to gamble responsibly and view bonuses as a way to extend your playtime and enjoyment, rather than a guaranteed path to profit.

2024.05.14 16:20 Suspicious_Cash_8086 Xmen vs SF softmod issues with Yoga / Bigblue APKs

Hello! looking for advice... I managed to use ADB to install all APks needed. I have this XmenvsSF pcb, I installed Bigblue and Yoga Flame apks (after cloning them) and used NOVA as Home launcher. if I open BB or Yoga Flame, The menu music on it will not SHUT UP. Even if I go into that 1up's menu and turn off background music, still keeps playing the Ryu music. Confirm on a game, still going.
EXIT out of the 1up app, still playing. weird stuff!
Then, I remove these 2 apks, and proceed to install the THE DAM pre-cloned apks, and those will play well without the music issue on the background, BUT, if I exit a game to return to the main menu (holding player1 button), it will go back to Home Screen (NOVA) instead of the BB/Yoga main menu.
last, player 2 button wont enter game settings for Yoga/BigBlue (havent seeing a video in which people can actually use this option though)
Hope someone has faced this before myself and provide some guidance. if this has no fix, then I think the best approach will be to install Retroarch and add the roms there.

2024.05.14 16:19 PetrZitskiy The Cultural Impact of Casino in Media

The Cultural Impact of Casino in Media
[ The Cultural Impact of Casino in Media ]
Casinos have long captivated the human imagination, and their portrayal in media has had a profound cultural impact. From the glitzy world of James Bond movies to the gritty streets of Las Vegas in "Casino," the representation of casinos in films, television, literature, and other forms of media has shaped our perceptions and influenced societal attitudes toward gambling and casino culture.

Hollywood Glamor and the Casino Lifestyle

The allure of casinos has been a staple in Hollywood for decades. Movies like "Casino Royale," "Ocean's Eleven," and "The Hangover" have presented casinos as glamorous, high-stakes environments where fortunes are made and lost. These portrayals emphasize the excitement, risk, and opulence associated with casino life. The image of a suave, tuxedo-clad gambler at a poker table has become an iconic cultural symbol, reinforcing the idea of casinos as places of luxury and adventure.

Literature's Take on Casinos

Literature has also played a significant role in shaping the cultural narrative around casinos. From Fyodor Dostoevsky's "The Gambler," which delves into the psychological aspects of gambling addiction, to Ian Fleming's James Bond novels, where high-stakes card games are a recurring motif, casinos have provided a rich backdrop for exploring human nature, luck, and chance. These stories often highlight the duality of casinos as places of both opportunity and peril.

Television's Influence

Television series like "Las Vegas" and reality shows such as "World Series of Poker" have brought the casino experience into living rooms around the world. These shows demystify the inner workings of casinos, portraying the behind-the-scenes operations and the lives of those who work and play there. By providing an insider's look, television has made the casino world more accessible to the general public, further embedding it into popular culture.

Music and Casinos

Casinos have also left their mark on the music industry. Songs like Elvis Presley's "Viva Las Vegas" and Frank Sinatra's "Luck Be a Lady" celebrate the excitement and allure of casino life. These songs have become anthems of the casino experience, encapsulating the thrill of gambling and the romanticism of Las Vegas. Through music, the cultural impact of casinos extends beyond visual media, resonating with audiences on an auditory level.

Video Games and Virtual Casinos

The rise of video games has brought a new dimension to the cultural impact of casinos. Games like "Grand Theft Auto" feature virtual casinos where players can gamble, adding another layer of immersion and interaction. Additionally, the proliferation of online casino games and apps has made gambling more accessible than ever before, blurring the lines between entertainment and real-world gambling.

The Impact on Fashion and Lifestyle

The casino lifestyle, with its emphasis on luxury and high fashion, has influenced broader cultural trends. The elegant attire often associated with casino patrons has inspired fashion designers and influenced trends in formal wear. Casinos, with their lavish interiors and sophisticated ambiance, have become synonymous with a certain lifestyle, promoting a culture of glamour and exclusivity.

Social and Ethical Implications

While the portrayal of casinos in media often glamorizes gambling, it also raises important social and ethical questions. The depiction of casinos can influence public attitudes toward gambling, potentially normalizing it and downplaying the risks of addiction and financial ruin. Media representations can also perpetuate stereotypes, such as the idea that casinos are primarily the domain of the wealthy or that gambling is a surefire path to quick riches.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The cultural impact of casinos in media is multifaceted, reflecting and shaping societal attitudes toward gambling and the casino lifestyle. Through films, literature, television, music, and video games, casinos have become ingrained in popular culture, symbolizing both the allure of risk and the potential for reward. As media continues to evolve, the portrayal of casinos will likely remain a significant cultural touchstone, reflecting the ongoing fascination with the world of gambling.

2024.05.14 16:17 CuriousAnachronism 24 [M4F] Germany/Europe/Online - For the Hatred of Life

Prologue
Hello and welcome to my post. I will subdivide this into two large parts. One will cover my thoughts, feelings, my hopes and dreams...While the other will tell you the specifics of how I pass the time, what topics interest me, what passions do I posses. I believe that at the end of this leap into my inner world, you dear reader, will have all the necessary information to judge whether we are compatible or not.

Part I
I am writing this in the hopes of finding something that I lack. Lately I have had this feeling, this tinge of melancholy within the dephts of my being, this yearning to find a kindred spirit, another Soul, much like mine, to form a bond with. Perhaps Loneliness is the right word for what is bothering me, but to use it seems to carry with it a connotation of ungratefulness. Ungratefulness for the people that I do have in my life, although none of them, of course, have the connection to me that I seek here.

I have found it increasingly necessary to seek in this Life a sort of purity of thought. What I mean is, I have began to undestand what ideas and concepts are ultimately compatible with my inner most Self, ergo what guidelines I have to follow to feel the most whole. Naturally I have likewise realised what I cannot add to my Self and what I will henceforth reject with all the power that I posses.

With this new context in mind, I now follow on the path of self improvement. I will now begin to mold my Self into my perfected idea of how the Self should be. This is certainly a significant undertaking, one that will not be easy to follow through on but one that I ultimately have to do. To me such context is essential. It is akin to a Guiding Star shining in the night. I will follow this Star for without it I am lost in the vast Darkness.

Looking back at my life, it was suboptimal, especially if one compares the way it molded me to how I will now mold myself. I suppose I must look on with a hint of regret at all that time which one might consider to be lost. Still... I try to stave off such decisively negative interpretations, after all, I have ultimately came to these conclusions. That means that somewhere along the line I had to have picked up on enough of such ideas for them to become so cemented in my consciousness. Well, either that or I was always like this, but in that case I can at least thank my life up to this point for not being able to supress such manifestations of my inner most Self.

To add to the topic of my life, I must admit that not all the battles have yet been won, not all the Demons vanquished, not every Mountain climbed. I want you to keep such things in mind when deciding whether or not to approach me. Many will shy away, I undestand that much, but the pursuit of true Companionship is just another such battle. Having said all that I do believe that being able to overcome hurdles together carries with it a certain appeal. That is to say, what's the fun in joining once the Game is already over?

I don't shy away from such challenges, perhaps to a fault. Certain troubles that I faced in the past carry with them a long shadow over my current health and well being. Still, I intend to change little in this regard other than the proficiency with which I will clash the current of my Will against the cliffs of Life.
Part II
In this part of my post I will tell you about my interests and hobbies, I will try to be thorough, commonality in this regard is rather important to build a relationship
History. I have had an interest in history for almost a decade now, it started back in school and developed from there. Well, now that I think about it one could argue that it started even earlier in my life as I liked watching the odd historic documentary or film aired on television but it wasn't regular back then, I never actively sought it out. I am mostly interested in European history in the period between the 18th-20th century but I sometimes branch out to other time periods and other parts of the world. I watch various channels related to history and read articles and sometimes books. I have recently got a few books on the German revolution of 1848/1849 and a historical magazine on the Thirty Years' War. Besides that I try to visit museums sometimes.
Literature. Especially old novels. I like to immerse myself in the Worlds of these books, I tend to read them while listening to thematically fitting music and take my time with them. One time you are following a troubled Youth in his quest for spiritual understanding of the world, another you see the aged and decrepit Doctor gambling his very Soul on the promises of abtaining satisfaction in earthy pleasures, then again your olfaction notices the most pleasant scent known to man even as the one eminating it has the appearance of a revolting Frog. These and many other stories open up to you once you decide to set foot into the literary World.
Languages. I know three, with one being a bit rusty. I am currently working intently on strengthening it. I believe that if I continue to apply myself in this regard then I should be able to finally conquer it. What language am I working on? Well, if you were to stack all the major works in it they would be as tall as a house... It is fun to go through different works in multiple languages, the same goes for film, games and such.
Games. I recently played Cyberpunk 2077. Well as recently as I played any major story centric game. Now that the dust has settled and the bugs mostly removed...It's not that bad. The main questline at least. Besides that I tried Fallout 76 (Very average, I'm dissapointed with what they made the "RPG" system) and I might give Deus Ex Manking Divided another spin (since it's somewhat similar to Cyberpunk when it comes to its aesthetics). Dark Souls is one of my favorite series, I still haven't beaten Elden Ring though. When it came out I wasn't in the right mindset to invest a hundred hours into it, with all those bosses and difficult locations. I think I'll only consider playing it if I am streaming it to someone. I am generally interested in either streaming games or having the person I am talking to stream them to me. To be specific I mean streaming to a single person while being on call. Besides that I'm a big fan of Paradox strategy games, especially Europa Universalis IV and Heats of Iron IV, I tend to only play single player since I find multiplayer with many people to be rather stressful but on the other hand I have nothing against a co-op game. I'm not the best player though, despite the ammount of hours I have in them. Another great game I would mention would be Dragon's Dogma. A very underrated RPG. I recently beat it again and it was an atmospheric and interesting experience. It is one of those games that feel like they have an endless ammount of depth and constant new secrets to discover.
Anime and Manga. In recent times my interest in them has waned but I still watch the occasional series here and there. Like Cyberpunk Edgerunners (Which I found to be rather mediocre) and the very good first season from the new arc of Bleach. Some of my favourite series include: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Fate;Zero, Psycho Pass, Code Geass and Attack on Titan. I wouldn't mind if you were to introduce me to some new series, maybe based on the ones I mentioned. My favourite Manga is Berserk which I still follow, althought I am still not certain on the direction that the new author is taking. I suppose it really is a matter of contention whether a somewhat (or considerably warped) vision is better than an unfinished work. One could argue that a few novels remain unfinished and possess a macabre appeal to them as such.
Music. Classical music has a very special place in my heart. A few of my favourite pieces would be: Clair de Lune, Nocturne Op. 9 No.2, Devil's Trill Sonata, Danse Macabre, Valse Sentimentale, Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92: II. Alegreto (by Beethoven) and Suite from Swan Lake, Op. 20a: I. Scene. Moderato. There are more but these ones always invoke something in me when I listen to them. Besides Classical I also enjoy listening to Synthwave, old Western pop and J-pop, both modern and from the 20th century.
Esotericism. I am interested in things spiritual, mystical, magical and esoteric. I have read religios texts, magical grimoires, introductions to various schools of thought. It is interesting to me.
Epilogue
Hopefully I was able to cast the spotlight upon my inner World in a clear and unequivocal manner. I feel the need to add to the aforementioned that I am rather introverted, which means that I tend to dislike large social gatherings. I managed to condition myself to be able to endure the presense of large groups of people but it isn't something that I would seek out in most cases. Besides that I am neurodivergent and suffer from certain issues with mental health. I have to take medication to keep myself under control. They work well enough but certain days are harder than others. I respect the struggle that others have with mental health but in the context of a relationship I have my limits, no one with BDP for instance. I am also not looking for anything casual. I understand than one cannot demand depth and meaning from a conversation with an absolute stranger, that is akin to trying to build a sand castle right before the waves strike but I ask at least that you enter with a mindset that this might become something of significance. I also do want to say that I am completely Monogamous. My preference? The sickly, pale, intellectual who watches rain droplets slide down the window in Autumn. Lastly, if I enjoy the company of a person I tend to not want to let them go.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and have a good day. I ask that you send a DM instead of a chat and that you give your thoughts on my title in the opening of your message.
Goodbye...Or perhaps untill we meet again

Talk with Designers: Season Edition

Hi everyone, we've been surprised by the amount of feedback and suggestions we've received from our community about the Song of Strife season, and we're truly grateful for your enthusiastic support. Today, we're bringing you another edition of Talk with Designers, where we'll touch on some of the most discussed topics and share our thoughts on how we plan to address them. Let's dive right in.

Q1: Why the nerf on AFK Rewards and free gifts in this new season?

Designer:
Typically, when we plan version updates, we schedule rewards for each season with four updates in mind. In subsequent versions, we have actually prepared more engaging events and gameplay features, along with ample rewards to enrich your gaming journey.
However, we acknowledge that there may have been oversights in reward distribution during the recent season launch. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. To rectify this, we've decided to adjust the rewards for Season AFK Stage, Season Legend Trial, Season Corrupt Creature, and Battle Drills to match those you received during the Starter Story.
Moving forward, we're committed to maintaining this level of generosity for every new season. Please be assured that these additional rewards are entirely new and won't affect what you'll receive from future events and activities.
Your understanding and support are invaluable to us as we continue to strive for excellence in enhancing your gaming experience.
Moreover, rewards will be enhanced in certain modes. (These adjustments are set to take effect after the update planned for this week. Once the update arrives, all players in the new season will be eligible to claim these compensatory rewards.)
a. Season AFK Rewards: Diamond x100 and Invite Letter x1 will be added as stage rewards for the first 1,200 Season AFK Stages. The two rewards will alternate every 5 stages, starting with new rewards on stages 2, 7, 12, 17, etc. Overall, the Season AFK Stages will be more rewarding than the those during Starter Story.
b. Season Legend Trial: Every 5 floors, from the 5th floor to the 85th, the rewards in Season Legend Trial will now be replaced with those from the Starter Story. The 4 towers will provide a total of Invite Letter x36, Tidal Essence x360, and Temporal Essence x120 as rewards. Additionally, we're adding the Faction Acorn x10 reward every 10 floors until the 90th floor.
c. Season Corrupt Creature: In addition to the current rewards, defeating a Season Corrupt Creature will now reward you with Soulstone (S-Level) x15. Collect 60 Soulstones (S-Level) to obtain a random Epic hero, including those added to the Hero Wish List after their Rate Up Recruitment event has ended.
d. Enhanced rewards for Battle Drill: Desolate Grounds. A total of 6 rounds of Battle Drills will be available throughout the entire season.
e. Adjusted diamond rewards in small and medium chests found on the map from 15&30 Diamonds to 30&60 Diamonds.
Please stay tuned for more time-limited events like "Glamor Gift" in future updates. These events will feature plenty of rewards for everyone to enjoy.

Q2: Heroes specialized in dealing true damage, like Marilee and Korin aren't performing as effectively in Season Dream Realm battles as they did before, are we rotating them out?

Designer:
Don't worry, we're not rotating out this type of hero. Our goal is to minimize the power gap between true-damage heroes and other heroes, while preserving their relative advantages. But Dream Realm bosses lack significant Defensive Stats in the current stage (before endless mode), which makes true damage heroes less competitive compare to other types. True damage heroes truly shine in Endless Mode; heroes like Marilee and Korin will remain top-tier damage dealers against certain bosses in that difficulty.
We realize that we've overlooked your early season experience before you could unlock the Dream Realm bosses on Endless Mode difficulty, causing some challenges in transitioning to new formations and raising concerns within the community. For the time being, we encourage you to experiment with different formations. By the way, Artifacts suitable for more formations will actually be unlocked soon (you can preview them in the Season Artifacts interface.)
We understand your concerns but encourage you to experiment with different formations. We'll keep gathering your feedback and monitoring the performance of all heroes on our end. We're proceeding with caution on any balance changes because we recognize the time and resources you've invested in these heroes. So, we're taking extra care with these adjustments.

Q3: What's the plan for this season? I'm confused about what's going to happen.

Designer:
The current season will last about four months, with new content planned for release at a steady pace. We've scheduled an update for each month, bringing in new events, features, rewards and other exciting content. But we will not introducing any new progression features in this season.
As you progress, your stat growth will be significantly capped after reaching a certain level, similar to what happened in the Starter Story. This is to prevent a significant power gap between new and veteran players in the middle and late stages of the season. In the Season Supreme Arena, we'll also set a Baseline Level to minimize the power gap between participants. This will allow you to play the game at your own pace.
We also want to talk more about the recent changes regarding the requirements for unlocking new areas. We made these adjustments after noticing a widening power gap caused by players progressing too quickly through new areas. In future updates, we'll introduce new mechanics to address these imbalances, allowing players to enjoy the game at their own pace while maintaining a healthy gaming life balance.

A heartfelt letter from the designers

Bringing seasonal content to this game genre was a bold move, one we took on with enthusiasm and determination. But we can't do it alone. Your support and understanding fuel our passion, while your feedback and suggestions steer us in the right direction. We're committed to improving each season with your input, and creating even more thrilling content for the game!
Thank you all again for your patience and understanding. Your feedback is invaluable and essential for shaping the future of our game. Finally, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support you've demonstrated for the new season "Song of Strife."
As a small token of our appreciation, please enjoy this special gift—Redeem Code: hwidnabwbd
Redeem code content: Invite Letters*10 Valid until: 2024.06.14 23:59:59 (UTC) Available on: live servers, PTR servers

2024.05.14 16:10 copaceticconvert From Randomness to Revelation: The Synchronicity Generator

Magic tells us that your thoughts have an impact on the physical world, which flies directly in the face of materialism, which is the water we swim in. Do this for a month, and you will start to see the glitches in the matrix.
  1. Pick something you know inside and out. A music artist or genre, a video game, a novel, a cookbook, coding, etc. Could literally be anything, provided that you know it on a somewhat systemic level, and that you love it.
  2. Find some way to randomly generate a bite-sized piece of that thing. If it's a book, flip to a page randomly. if it's music, throw together a playlist and put it on shuffle. If it's a video game, either get an encyclopedia and pick a page at random or, if there's a randomness to it, boot it up for a bit until you come across something.
  3. Do that in the morning. Every morning. Do it knowing that this is the universe giving you a message for how the day is going to unfold for you.
  4. This is the crucial part: At the end of the day, reflect, and make it fit. This is where picking something you know a lot about is going to come in handy. If your "thing" is a band's discography, a band that you know inside and out, and you shuffle a song every day, not only will you be able to think of the album art, lyrics, etc. You will also be able to think about how the song was recorded, where the band was in their career, personalities of various members, etc. The more specific, and the more direct the connection, the better. Treat this as your pick being always right, and that you just need to find the answer.
  5. For the first few days, this will be hard, and it will be forced. But as you learn how to use this system, the connections will be easier. Then, they will be second nature. Then, they will be predictive.
The book is just a book, the songs are just songs, the video game is just a video game.
But get this: The Tarot is just cards.
The magic is coming from you.
Use your homemade Synchronicity Generator for as long as you want, but as you do, think about learning a magical system and eventually transferring over. Because you will find that you will, reflexively, have a deeper understanding of both the world and your choice of thing.
Replace that thing with Tarot, or runes, or any magical book of quality, and the rabbit hole becomes bottomless.

2024.05.14 16:09 SiegmeyerOW Replace/upgrade Senheisser 599

I've has the same pair of sennheiser 599 for about 5 years now that I've used everyday for those 5 years. They've been great, and they've spoiled me in terms of what good audio is ( for that price range ). But they're finally giving out on me. So I need to replace them but my budget is small. 150 or under. I plug straight to my motherboard with no amp, music is extremely important to me and I'm a competitive FPS player. I'd really like some suggestions on what to get, without an amp somewhere in my price range. I assume that it's been a long time since i got these headphones that the market has been saturated and competitively priced headphones that compare or are even better then the 599s are out there. Help?

2024.05.14 15:52 Frank9266 Multiplayer Setup

Unreal engine fairly new user here. (Prior experience with general programming).
I am trying to understand how to setup a basic lobby system, where one of the players is the host and others can join them. I want to support both LAN and remote, and I want this setup to scale well in case the game has a lot of users.
I don’t see enough tutorials that clearly explain this. I have Tom Looman and Stephen Ulibarri’s courses with me - But I want to develop my own small prototype on the side and learn as I go, instead of following the sequence of the tutorials (where multiplayer shows up much later). I want to first setup multiplayer, and then keep progressing with the overall game.
Do you recommend any resources that can help me quickly get started with a robust basic multiplayer foundation in my code? I feel I have a preference for Blueprints (coding seems to go a bit faster with those), but I’ve heard you cannot avoid C++ when you go multiplayer?
Also, do you recommend any existing, community accepted plugins for multiplayer, or is it better to build our own solution from scratch? The goal is to get a working setup fast, but also with long term viability in mind…

2024.05.14 15:51 Gidon_147 [FO4] Every single quest mod is still held back by the speaking protagonist and I have a suggestion to solve this

Before I continue, yeah this is gonna be a subjective ramble about how I think I would design a quest mod, were I any good at writing or coding. I've just been thinking and want to share my thoughts on this. You can absolutely just count this as a dumb rant if you want, I don't mind.
TL;DR only voice the NPCs, not the main protagonist and stop recycling the existing dialogue just for the sake of voicing the protagonist.
So, there is one thing I like and one thing I dislike about the speaking protagonist in FO4:
This not only limits how good the Story and Dialogue, including the decisions you can make in the base game, can be, but the limitations also apply FULLY to every quest mod ever made, no matter how well it is written.
Take for example Sim Settlements 2. I'm taking that as an example because it's the most recent one I have played and it has excellent voice acting and writing.
The difference between quality of the depth of character of NPCs vs. the protagonist is absolutely jarring, and the reason for that is because the writing is SO good that the nature of Noras/Nates recycled dialogue gets even moreso obvious. Whenever I participate in any dialogue in this mod, I am getting reminded every single time that the implementation of the MCs voice lines makes everything said by them so lackluster. I mean, the NPCs even acknowledge and tell you outright that "If you realize it or not, you are kind of the leader around here", which is a very amazing moment that surpasses anything else in vanilla FO4, but at the same time I feel like my character is a leader like Forrest Gump, running down the commonwealth, minding their own business and everybody who follows them just makes their own decisions all the time after they interpret something meaningless I say to them as some stroke of absolute genius. Because the actual context between what I say and what they say is mostly very minimal and insubstantial.
No matter how much effort and energy is put into any quest mod for FO4, they will always have to build around that limited set of basic recycled things to be said by the protagonist. Never will they actually be able to meaningfully interact with anybody in the game, and it's just by nature of the protagonist being voiced. There are SO MANY amazing Quest mods with amazing Voice acting for New Vegas, and none of those have that problem, simply because the Main Character is not voiced.
So how would I do it if I had any skills in modding?
I would work around the Silent Protagonist mod, keep the option of having the Protagonist say the little environmental things, but completely ignore the limitation of Nora/Nate voice acting and just not voice them at all. Suddenly, my freedom in designing the dialogue skyrockets. I can make Nora/Nate say anything I want, and I can provide options like in FO3 or NV where the player can ACTUALLY make meaningful decisions, play good/evil/neutral, or basically become a character as fleshed out as any other character in my quest mod. Only the NPCs would have voice lines. I could even make the NPCs refer to something important I said in the past, later in the game. It would not only open up a huge potential of more complexity for MY character, but for everyone else as well.
Yeah, that's basically my Idea. Sorry if it's underwhelming and that I can't contribute more than a suggestion, as I'm neither a writer, nor a voice actor nor a coder. But I do honestly think that this would be the solution for FO4 Quest mods, and I would like if modding went into that direction someday. I'm very sure people would quickly get used to a non-voiced protagonist if that would become the standard with quest mods. I think it would also happen quite fast, because the difference in quality would be obvious the moment a big, high quality quest mod comes out that just ignores the limitation of recycling already used protagonist voice lines.
Thank you for your patience and I would like to hear what you think about this.

$BB – The most legitimate meme stock out there
Wait, you mean Blackberry don’t sell phones anymore?
Ladies and gentlemen, as we sit back and enjoy Meme season 2.0, I have prepared some due diligence on Blackberry $BB for those who may not be full up to date and familiar with the company. Spoiler alert, Blackberry do not sell smartphones anymore.
Blackberry has suffered a painful decline since the last rally in 2021, but the company has reached an inflection point where the stock as bottomed out, and is primed for an explosive move upwards. The company has transitioned into a Cybersecurity/IOT company, and is insanely undervalued with a market cap of only $1.9bn. Below are some of the highlights of why $BB is an incredible investment opportunity, with the added bonus of meme stock status.
- Solid balance sheet, with $298 Total cash & equivalents https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/BB/balance-sheet
- Expects to be cash flow and adjusted EBITDA positive at the end of this fiscal year. The company has a cost-cutting plan in place and has already executed on $50m worth of annualized cost savings, with a plan to increase annualized net profit by $100m total. https://bwpeople.in/article/blackberry-to-reduce-headcount-in-cost-cutting-drive-509822

- Operating in 2 growing markets, Cybersecurity (TAM growing at CAGR 10.56%) and IOT (TAM growing at 21% CAGR). IOT in particular is the companies crown jewel, where revenue grew 25% YoY with gross margins of 85%
https://www.statista.com/outlook/tmo/cybersecurity/worldwide
https://iot-analytics.com/iot-market-size/
- $815m QNX royalty revenue backlog (and growing). Most recently grew 27% YoY. (Margins on royalties are close to 100%, basically this is like booking net income on the income statement, with no cost of goods sold). Skip to 24:00 in this video where president of the IOT business unit outlines how royalty backlog is a key metric for the IOT business unit. He remarks almost sarcastically and smirks “Very interesting margins, eh, in that backlog”. READ BETWEEN THE LINES PEOPLE

- Will receive up to $700m in royalties from the sale of their Non-Core IP patents related to their old smartphone business https://www.blackberry.com/us/en/company/newsroom/press-releases/2023/blackberry-announces-new-patent-sale-transaction-with-leading-patent-monetization-company-for-up-to-900-million
- 7 out of 7 G7 governments use Blackberry cybersecurity. 17 of the G20 governments use Blackberry Cybersecurity
https://www.blackberry.com/us/en/company/overview
- Blackberry QNX software is embedded in 24 out of the top 25 global EV automakers (Excluding Tesla). Embedded in 235m+ vehicles and growing at 31% CAGR. Strong foothold in China, the most dominant players in the EV market.
- Partnership with NVIDIA for next generation vehicles. Blackberry QNX is the operating system used for NVIDIA’s DRIVE THOR platform. https://www.blackberry.com/us/en/company/newsroom/press-releases/2023/blackberry-qnx-releases-ultra-scalable-high-performance-compute-ready-operating-system-to-advance-software-development-efforts-for-next-generation-vehicles-and-iot-systems

- Partnership with AWS on Blackberry IVY. Blackberry and AWS have co-developed Blackberry IVY. “BlackBerry IVY is an in-vehicle and cloud connected software solution designed to enable software developers to more efficiently build and deploy data-driven middleware services in the vehicle. BlackBerry IVY abstracts vehicle signals and enables developers to process those signals with code, including with Machine Learning. Car makers and software developers benefit from data connectivity savings, reduced development times, and increased agility without having to make a large upfront software investment”. As Blackberry QNX is already embedded into 235m+ vehicles and growing, BLACKBERRY HAS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO UPSELL IVY to every QNX customer, if it gains traction it opens up a whole new revenue explosive stream for Blackberry. Have you heard of Foxconn? They are the world’s largest manufacturer of electronics, most known for making parts for the iPhone. They created MIH (Mobility in Harmony) who have selected Blackberry IVY to power its Next-Generation Electric Production Vehicles. Other notable early customers are Bosch and Mitsubishi. https://www.blackberry.com/us/en/company/newsroom/press-releases/2024/mobility-in-harmony-consortium-selects-blackberry-ivy-to-power-its-next-generation-electric-production-vehicles

- Partnership with AMD for Robotics. https://www.blackberry.com/us/en/company/newsroom/press-releases/2024/blackberry-announces-collaboration-with-amd-to-advance-foundational-precision-and-control-for-robotics-industry

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, who in their right mind would not want to invest in a meme stock that happens to be a tech company in the early growth stage. Let’s all load the fucking boat with shares, and take down every single hedge fund brave enough to short this stock.

2024.05.14 15:01 Suraziv 23 - Looking for Long-Term Friends!

Hello! My name is Charlie and I’m from the great state of Michigan! I’m looking for some new long-term friends, doesn’t matter if you’re near me or not. I’ll keep it short, so here’s a bit about me:
I work in the auto industry and travel a bit for my job, mostly around Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. I have been out of school for two years and was a business major.
I am a casual, mostly single player gamer but I am open to playing games together! I love racing games, rpgs, strategy games, and Paradox history games. I play on PS5 and PC!
I also love watching tv and movies, or YouTube. I’m a big music fan, love taking walks or hikes and just enjoying nature, taking drives, trying new food, going to museums, history, politics, NFL and college football, and Formula 1!
I’m a bit introverted but once I’m comfortable with people I can be a real chatterbox. I think I have a good sense of humor and am decently smart, as well as kind and very honest.
I’d love to get to know you, especially if we have things in common! Please don’t be shy and hmu with a short introduction about you!
Hope you have a nice day :)

2024.05.14 14:57 lord__cuthbert Making music no one will hear - the final frontier?

I'm writing this because in another thread someone said something about just making music because you feel like it and then deciding whether to post it online or not. That got me thinking.
I know there are people saying things like "I just make music because it's fun and I don't care about money, fame etc", but I always felt like this was some kind of virtue signal and/or a cope. It always seemed strange that people would make music that they never had any intention of showing off to other people.
Now I know for myself I'm one of those people "who have to" make music, but then I started to wonder is there a big blurred line between doing it because you need to do it for yourself and because you have some external goal you want to attain? If you removed that goal whether it be money, recognition, "passive" streaming income a.k.a an easy life etc, would your life actually just be happier overall?
Being someone in his mid thirties and having started music production around the time just a bit before myspace came around (a lot of us were on soundclick before then from what I remember), it just seems like it was a given you would make your track and upload it online for recognition or critique etc, but if you think about it, that was probably quite a new phenomenon in general for young people who were just getting into what was still only in the early stages of becoming an ever more accessible art form. We didn't know of the struggles the generation which proceeded us had to deal with, e.g. having to go through the gate keepers and various processes just to have a record released. So in a way, we were trained from young just to make music, release, make music, release like it was completely normal - and it's almost like it's had some sort of neurological imprint / effect on us.
Now, they say that the root of suffering is desire, but if you have no desire to "make it" or make anything for that matter in the world of music, would your existence just be generally happier and more peaceful? Would you even make that much music? You hear about people who just play the piano for themselves, so why don't producers do that?

2024.05.14 14:51 Bag_O_Dikz [Question] Any recommendations for books of solo guitar pieces for steel string acoustic guitar?

I’m not even sure if these exist, as I’m not having a ton of success finding examples so far. Basically, I play a lot of acoustic guitar in the style of Julian Lage, Bob Minner, etc. Think of flat picking with lots of hybrid picking thrown in. I’m looking for more pieces in this style to learn while also working on my music notation sight reading skills. Does anyone know of any books of solo guitar pieces that fit this description? I’m not really looking for classical guitar pieces, though I am open to those if anyone knows of books that are accessible to steel string players. In terms of skill level, I would call myself an advanced player. Thanks!
