Saw one of these on facebook the other day and saw this earlier on ironscape. Thought that was a pretty funny coincidence

2024.05.09 15:13 mlc35772 Old script for 9hp, from neo

YouTube Video Script for 9Hp, from Neobandit about Accidental Rares/ Alt-ID items/ Smuggled items.
1, Mining and Smithing Flier- These were passed out by npcs for a short period of time during January 2019 to advertise the Mining and Smithing rework and could have been read for a short summary of the rework. Now when attempting to read the flyer it will vanish leaving behind the message "Too late - it's gone!" (so dont read them now).Once the fanatics were removed with the release of the Mining & Smithing Rework, the flyers became unobtainable. The flyer cannot be traded via the Grand Exchange however may be traded in-person. According to the wiki, Jagex does not recognize the mining and smithing fliers as discontinued Items. However, they are unobtainable now and treated as discontinued items by some collectors.
2. Rare Raw Shrimp, Bones, and Pot of Flour- These rare/smuggled items were obtainable from the Tutorial Island before an update that made them become unobtainable on July 2008. Although they share the same name and appearance as their common counterparts, there are ways of telling them apart. Firstly, unlike their common counterparts, these items cannot be traded via the grand exchange but only via player to player trades. Secondly, the rare pot of flour has a slightly different appearance than normal, has a high alch value of 6 coins rather than 8, and does not have an "empty pot" option like normal. The rare bones have a different examine text than common bones; The rare bones examine text says, "these bones are for burying!", while the common bones examine text has a period rather than an exclamation point. Since these items have different item IDs from their common counterparts, they do not stack in bank or when noted. Because of this, players with the rare variation of bones, raw shrimp, or pot of flour will often show 2 noted forms of the item to prove its authenticity, one stack of the rare variation and one stack of commons. This practice of showing two stacks of items that share the same name/icon is done with most of the non ge rare and smuggled items to prove authenticity.
3. Rare Bronze gauntlets - Rune gauntlets- According to the wiki, bronze-rune gauntlets were originally obtained as a reward from the Fist of Guthix minigame. They were changed in the 10 August 2015 update to drop from monsters; On 7 January 2019, the mining and smithing update did not convert some of the gauntlets into metal item tokens, thus creating two forms of bronze through rune gauntlets. Just like the tutorial island items, they share the same name and appearance as their common counterparts and cannot be traded via the grand exchange but only via player-to-player trades. Since these items have different item IDs from their common counterparts, they do not stack in bank or when noted. The rare variations of the gauntlets also have different high alch values in the price checker. The normal rune gauntlets have a high alch value of 500 coins, while the rare variation has a high alch value of 4500 coins. The normal steel gauntlets have a high alch value of 100 coins while its rare variation has a high alch value of 600 coins. Also, the rare variations have the examine text: "i have to keep my hands safe!" instead of the normal examine text: "a pair of rune/steel gauntlets." The rare bronze/iron/mithril/addy gauntlets are much rarer than the rare rune/steel gauntlets.
4. Rare burnt lobster-The rare variation of the burnt lobster was accidently created on 4 March 2013, after an update that made burnt food stack in your inventory. According to the wiki, two different types of burnt lobster exist, mostly due to the way the aforementioned update was handled. When the update hit, all noted versions of burnt items were updated, losing the functionality of notes and getting the same inventory icon as their normal counterpart. Visually, these items cannot be distinguished; however, while the common burnt lobster later received an "Eat" option, the previously noted items did not. The rarity of the previously noted type of burnt lobsters comes from the fact that not many people had large quantities of burnt lobsters in their inventory when the update occurred.
5. Magical Bunny, Lamb, and Chick eggs- These magical eggs could be won from Treasure Hunter on 17 April 2014. They can be activated to turn the player into a baby bunny, lamb, or chick respectively for a brief duration, and then the egg will be consumed. It can also be eaten to heal 200 life points. As a discontinued item, it is now considered a tradeable rare. It was made available again during the "Second Chance" Treasure Hunter Promotion from 2 April to 7 April 2015. You can only trade this with other players, not in the grand exchange
6. Diamond Jubilee foods- The Diamond Jubilee was a street party in Varrock prepared for Queen Elizabeth II that began on 29 May 2012 and ended on 13 June 2012. In celebration, Varrock square had been filled with tables for a Jubilee feast, special commemorative stalls and Jubilee themed decorations. Among these commemorative stalls was one called "Exotic foods," owned by Bang Ersenmash and found on the east side of the square. This stall sold 5 exclusive British-themed foods: cream teas, coronation chicken sandwiches, fish 'n' chips, steak and kidney pies, and full breakfasts. On 13 June 2012, most of these foods were removed from game. However, some of these food items have somehow remained in game after the update and are now traded amongst players.
Rare POF Animals
7. Araxyte Spider- Araxyte spiders are a breed of spiders that may be raised on the player-owned farm. One can be obtained by checking an araxyte spider egg or by trading with another player. There are 6 types of Araxyte spider pairs (male/female): the 1-trait non-shiny, 2 trait non-shiny, 3 trait non-shiny, 1 trait shiny!, 2 trait shiny!, and 3 trait shiny! pairs. The names and traits of the spiders do not matter since they can be rerolled, although some traits cannot. The 1 trait shiny! araxyte spider pair can still be obtained by checking an araxyte spider egg, a very rare drop from Araxxi. However, all other Araxyte spider pairs are discontinued following an update on 29 July 2019, which caused Araxyte spiders no longer being able to be bred from existing Araxyte spiders.
8. Two-trait Radiant Animals- According to word of mouth, when Player-owned farm was relatively new, there was a bug that caused the second trait to be missing from the bred animals. Since the Radiant trait can only be in the 3rd trait slot and usually slots aren't skipped, many players who are unaware of the bug will say that having a 2t Radiant animal is impossible. However, they do exist. Although animals without the radiant trait can also have the second trait missing, Radiant Animals can easily be shown to have its second trait missing by glossing over them with the mouse to see they only have two-traits. Some 2t Radiant animals are rarer than others, since more prized animals would have most likely been kept while more common animals would be traded for beans before the bug was discovered.
Special mentions: "Glitched" or "smuggled" items.
(Tutorial Island items are considered smuggled)
9. New Varrock Cabbage- This cabbage exists in an area of RuneScape known as New Varrock. Items within New Varrock cannot be taken outside the area..usually. Some players have found a way to "smuggle" these items outside the area via a glitch of some kind, allowing them to trade these items with other players anywhere. These items cannot be traded on the grand exchange but can be traded player to player. Now concerning the cabbage, it shares the same name and appearance as normal cabbage. however, it does have a small sword icon next to its name in unnoted form. Since there is also a draynor cabbage that shares the same name and appearance as normal cabbage as well, players must show 3 stacks of cabbage in noted form to prove the authenticity of the New Varrock Cabbage.
10. Zemomark, zombie cowhide, chocolate cake, stew, beer, doogle leaves, Strength potion(4)- These items have also been smuggled out of New varrock. The zemomark is the currency of New Varrock and the zombie cowhide is a drop recieved from killing a zombie cow in New Varrock. Chocolate cake and Stew can be bought from Gertrude in New Varrock for 140 and 170 Zemomarks respectively. They heal the same amount as their normal counterparts, but unlike the normal versions they stack in inventory. Beer is bought from the bartender at the Blue Moon Inn in New Varrock for 2 zemomarks. Doogle leaves are bought from Xuan's Fresh Produce in New Varrock for 100 zemomarks each. Unlike regular doogle leaves, Doogle leaves (new Varrock) are tradeable and can be noted. Strength potion (4) can be created by the apothecary by using a limpwurt root and red spiders' eggs at the cost of 5 zemomarks. The two ingredients are obtained from looting the chest in the south-east corner of New Varrock, which is accessible after completing Dimension of Disaster: Demon Slayer. This chest can only be looted once, and no more ingredients can be obtained in New Varrock afterwards. Only 3 strength potion (4)s can be obtained per account, and sipping the potion produces 1, 2, and 3 dose smuggled variants.
11. Zombie outfit, Black robes- The Zombie outfit and Black robes set can be bought from Thessalia in New Varrock. The complete zombie set consists of Zombie Mask, Zombie Shirt, Zombie trousers, Zombie gloves and Zombie Boots. The complete Black robes set consists of Black hood, Black robe (top), and Black robe (bottoms).
Unbankable "smuggled" items- These smuggled items cannot be banked and are usually held in the inventory of collectors permanently or traded to alts.
12. Mystery gift- Among the smuggled New Varrock items is the prized mystery gift, which is opened to receive a chromatic Party Hat. However, unlike the other new varrock items, the mystery gift cannot be banked. Opening this Mystery Gift in the main game will produce an Alt-id Chromatic Party Hat that doesn't stack with the normal one.
13. Bandages (Castle Wars)- This is a tradeable item smuggled out of the Castle wars minigame. Bandages are an item used to heal combatants in the Castle Wars minigame. They can be found on the table in the start room. Bandages restore 10% of a player's life points (rounded down) and restore 30% of a player's run energy. Usually, people are hesitant to call smuggled items discontinued because it is not known whether or not the glitch has been patched. However, the wiki mentions that the glitch allowing the smuggling of items out of Castle wars has been patched. According to the wiki, around 2007, bandages were smuggled from Castle Wars and used in the Duel arena when food and drinks were disabled. They allowed the abuser to heal because the bandages were not counted as prohibited consumables and gave them an advantage. Bandages can come in noted/unnoted forms.
14. Ogleroot- This is a tradeable item smuggled out of the Vinesweeper minigame. The wiki mentions that the glitch allowing the smuggling of items out of Vinesweeper has been patched. Therefore, Ogleroot is a smuggled item that is considered a discontinued item with confidence. Ogleroots are bought from Farmer Blinkin in the Vinesweeper minigame, by right-clicking Farmer Blinkin. They can also be found while digging with a spade during the minigame. Ogleroots are fed to rabbits to make the rabbits disappear, stopping the rabbits from eating the seeds that are found. When ogleroots are fed to the rabbits, players will receive 30 Hunter experience points. Usually, players cannot take ogleroots out of the minigame area, but players will be given 10 coins per Ogleroot when they leave. There is a YouTube video that shows how the glitch was done: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mstRCLE-hhg).
15. Calcified fungus, Fungal algea, Fungal spore, Timber fungus, Rotten fungus (Croseus)- These 4 fungi (and rotten fungus) have been smuggled out of the Croseus Boss instance on the day of release (which was on 27 September 2021) using the waterfiend familiar or a simple teleport/interface stall. These fungi differ from their normal counterparts in three ways. Primarily, the normal variation of the four fungus are gatherable outside the boss instance, while the smuggled fungi could only be obtained within the instance. Secondly, the smuggled fungi have a "Rot fungus" option in the inventory while the normal fungi do not when outside the boss instance. Lastly, the smuggled fungi are not available in the grand exchange and cannot be banked. However, these 4 smuggled fungi were available in the Grand exchange up until 4 October 2021. (The rotton fungus is still available on the grand exchange as of today). There are two forms of the smuggled fungi, noted and unnoted forms. They could be noted even though they are unbankable because they were available in the grand exchange for a short period of time. Since noted smuggled Croesus fungus can no longer be noted, they are considered discontinued. (unnoted smuggled Croesus fungus can still be smuggled out as of today) Noted smuggled Croesus fungi do not have the "rot fungus" option and can be shown alongside their noted common counterparts to showcase them in the trade window. Unnoted smuggled Croesus fungi cannot be distinguished from their common counterparts easily in the trade window, which makes the noted version more desirable.
16. Any New Rares to come- There are many other discontinued/smuggled items rumored to still be tradeable in-game that we have yet to see.
Items we have found since writing this script
1. Weapon Store key from the old shield of arrav quest,
2. smuggled, unbankable, tradeable Trouble Brewing items (8 set)
3. non-shiny Royal Dragon that is 2t radiant. (Double Glitched Dragon)
4. Alt-id coin (from item reclaim)
5. Smuggled, unbankable, untradeable, yet transferrable Fist of Guthix runes

2024.05.09 08:06 RS3HolidayEvents Anyone else think the graphical "updates" we receive are sometimes worse than the originals?

With the recent Pernix feedback update, I thought I'd look back at how Runescape used to look like during the HD era (2008-2012). I hate to say it but I think I mostly prefer the "older" HD graphics compared to the newer ones we have now:
Other graphical updates:
Edit: Also the lumbridge crater area. It used to look much better prior when it was the western forests which contained yew trees and goblins etc. While I enjoy the first world event, the quests that followed, and the beach event, I wish Jagex restored it back to its pre world event appearance. Any new player that joins the game now will have no idea what happened at the crater over 10 years ago!
I know it would be a waste of development time for Jagex to go back to the drawing board for low level combat equipment as most players now are high level, however If they are going to release graphical updates regardless, I'd much rather Jagex make use of polls again. I don't know though, maybe I'm just blinded by nostalgia. What does everyone else think?

2024.05.08 04:31 AkiraTheMouse 8 bit rpg mmo games?

I'm looking for a game similar to Realm of the mad god in how it has item progression and account progression, but without the losing everything whenever you die.
Something like Rpg mo or Runescape but with less of a grind. I enjoy the crafting, combat, dungeons, and exploration, but the extreme grind makes me quit those games.
Preferably as a pixel game, but at this point I'd take whatever.
Any suggestions?

2024.05.06 02:02 lets-bankrupt-reddit Why can't Jagex ban bots for good?

I'm kind of new to Runescape and a programmer by day. It seems there's tonnes of bots in this game, more than most and I'm wondering why Jagex has such a difficult time detecting them?
I've heard a few arguments so far:
1) Bots are actually good for the game. They make items cheaper on the GE and boost Jagex player numbers.
2) Jagex gets a cut of illegal gold sales secretly.
Putting these two aside, and assuming Jagex actually wanted to stop bots, why do you think it is so difficult from a programmatic stand point?
The initial problem is they only have server side information. Yet you think that but analysing things like time logged in, device id, time played, tick missed etc they'd be able to get a good prediction of who's botting with machine learning.
Nuclear option is to record mouse position, deltas and send that every couple of minutes to be predicted by ML.
Finally, you could release your own bots, intially to take away customers from real botters. But then you know exactly who is botting and just routinely ban people with 100% accuracy right after announcing a bot banwave.

2024.05.05 20:12 TheVaneja Young 'hacker' found his way into the wrong account and paid for it.

This isn't anything spectacular but I figure some will get a kick out of it. It has been long enough I might be remembering certain things wrong but the overall story is true.
So this was back in 2002/2003ish. I was somewhat addicted to the MMORPG Runescape. I had a lot of friends but there was one friend in particular that I played with a lot. We were both fairly invested in the game and were in the top 2000 on the leaderboards at the time. We both had well developed accounts worth enough that I was offered $5k for my account once. I suspect it was a scam attempt but it gives a vague idea of what our efforts might have been worth if we'd decided to sell our accounts.
One morning I log into... I think it was MSN Messenger that we talked on most of the time, and my friend is very upset as his main account was hacked into. Weak password, keylogger, someone he trusted betrayed him: I don't know. However it happened he couldn't get in. Worse, the person who did it managed to get his contact information and was taunting him over chat, threatening him and trying to blackmail him.
I was enraged and after about 2 hours of convincing he finally agreed to give me the contact info of this person so I could talk to them. I'm no tech genius but I know a few tricks my friend didn't and was too upset to learn at the time.
I don't remember if it was from Runescape or MSN but I got the person's IP address, and the whois tool to look up IP addresses was something I'd used a few times. So while I start laying into this person I'm also looking them up. I know there's only so much information I can get but it's worth a try.
It's very quickly clear I'm speaking to a kid. Maybe 10 at the very youngest, more likely 14-16 range. And he's so cocky it was unbelievable. Just before whois spits out his details he says his dad is a cop and he's immune to anything. But then whois gives me a Police Department in a town in California as the source of the address. I'd never seen so specific information before but I wasn't about to question it. I'd expected to get the region and use that but now I had a golden ticket to victory. It took all of 30 seconds before the kid was totally freaking out and begging me not to call his dad as I rattled out his home town and where his dad worked. I couldn't just call his dad even knowing the police department location (no long distance on my phone at the time) but he didn't know that.
An hour later my friend had his account back. With bonus gifts. The kid was transfering items and gold around and all my friends' gold was gone, but I guess my timing was awesome because there was 10x the value of the missing gold in items that he gained in exchange.
My friend and I played for another year or two before moving on.

2024.04.30 21:29 Moms_Lil_Wizard We NEED to revisit the Tonalztics of Ralos

In the wake of the Elder Maul Buffs, we really need to address the CHASE ITEM from the new high-level content, the coliseum, does not deliver at the level an item of its caliber should.
These calcs (below) are a bit weird because normally the following items are not used for 'DPS' but I think it helps illustrate the picture (Tbow is added to help gauge what real dps is targetting as well). I'm posting the calcs now but will not address them until later because I know people tend to skim these.
https://dps.osrs.wiki?id=CraftingWasteHeaddress
So in short let's look at the design space of the Tonalztics of Ralos, it is a 1-handed, level 75 ranged item from one of the hardest pieces of content in the game. It is clearly designed to draw inspiration from the Dragon Warhammer and Bandos Godsword, being a 6-tick attack style weapon. Unlike the two other items however, it is a weapon that uses charges which USUALLY implies it will be stronger, to balance out the need to keep it charged. Furthermore, the one-handed nature implies that a Twisted Buckler is needed (another END GAME ITEM, 100+ hour to acquire) to reach its true potential, whereas the dragon warhammer can get 98% of the way to is potential off a dragon defender, a 1 hour item.
On the defense-lowering front, except for places where it literally the only option: Leviathan, Zulrah, (Zuk unconfirmed if you can actually lower his defense), Olm, it really is just worse than the melee counterparts, and for several reasons:
  1. It has to pass the accuracy check twice to reach its potential, that potential often being lower than the melee equivalents, making it somewhat of a reverse fang in this regard, not something you want to hear.
  2. Something not often included in the discussion because until now it wasn't that pronounced, the DWH and BGS hit VERY HARD, in addition to lowering defense. I'm talking like 70-80+ in Max gear. The Tolan however? can barely scratch a 50 (contingent on 2 accuracy checks as a reminder). On a 6-tick weapon, this almost feels like an oversight. I'm not sure if there was a fear this would be too strong in PvP, but in it's current state, this item is so weak I'm afraid it will somehow result in buffing my attack target.
So let's see what these calcs shows. I did them on the Maiden from Theater of Blood, as this is a great benchmark where defense lowering items play a pivotal role in the encounter.
You will note that while the BGS is a TERRIBLE dps weapon, it is still almost TWICE as strong as the Tonalztics. Even the DWH is 50% stronger roughly. Even the Dorgeshuun Crossbow, A LEVEL 28 WEAPON, exceeds its dps by 50%.
Now let's get to what design space I ASSUMED this weapon could fill.
There is a really confusingly named mechanic in Runescape called overkill. Note this is NOT overkill DPS which is an entirely unrelated concept. Overkill is a somewhat niche mechanic wherein if an enemy dies with multiple hits in the same tick, it will actually die faster (this has applications in speedrun Ca's, ESPECIALLY THE FIGHT CAVES AND INFERNO SPEED RUNS). This is observed with the Sycthe of Vitur and Thralls, which are really the only ways this normally comes up. The talon being a 2-hit weapon, is also capable of doing this, but it is so abysmally bad at damage that you could never justify using it.
So if we ignore PvP (and by Ignore I mean limit this buff to PvM), WHAT IS SO WRONG ABOUT MAKING THE TALONS COMPETITIVE IN DPS WITH A BOWFA? Ranged has this super awkward gap in progression filled exclusively by the BOWFA right now where you have lots of items sitting at like 50% or less of the DPS of the Twisted Bow, then basically only the BOWFA bridging the gap.
You already have to charge it, do content harder than the CG to obtain it, and while its special somewhat justifies it being weaker, I really don't think the power-level of it justifies the fantasy the item is trying to appeal to.
The alternative solution is just buff the max hit to be comparable to a BGS thwack, and honestly, the special attack should have a damage boost or something more exciting, at present it is just worse than its peers.
Thank you and please share your thoughts

2024.04.26 21:22 sapphirers Your opinion on subscription-based MMOs

Hey!
I've been spamming this sub lately due to personal interest but I'd like to hear your thoughts on when a game has a F2P version and a P2P version (subscription based) and what types of benefits are "OK" for the subscription that doesn't provide necessarily pay-to-win or if so in a respectable manner? Some might question how I phrased that last part but for instance Runescape has their F2P version be limited by items and areas. Members (their subscription-based solution) allows you to unlock the whole game and all the items as well as better xp/hr methods. By definition that is Pay-2-Win but it's acceptable.
What things would be also be acceptable as a subscription-benefit?
Would more bank slots be deemed as pay-to-win? What about access to a global chat channel, or perhaps access to all the cosmetics within the game. Like where do YOU as the player draw the line to what is OK and not OK.

2024.04.24 00:30 BigBoiClimbs Another Server Inquiry Post

Hey all! I played Ragnarok on iRO during I guess what would be considered "classic", and I played private servers a lot up through rebirth jobs like sniper and sinx. I am looking for a server that is something I can play on my second monitor. So far I have tried like 5 diff servers just randomly searching and looking on RMS but haven't found where I think I'd like to spend a lot of time.
-Low to mid rates, I don't want the grind to be mind numbing like runescape but I don't want to be max level in a day. -Zero "starter pack" "custom OP item" "free exp boost and potions" "donation OP item" type stuff. I understand servers require donations to stay afloat and don't mind people paying for a little boost but I don't want to be unable to enjoy the game properly without them. I also don't want to be handed these things free just for starting out completely invalidating any sort of early progression. -Solo playability but maybe with some sort of actual grouping community? Leaning more towards the classic side, wouldn't mind rebirth, but def think 3rd jobs and beyond lost me. -Anything you guys are really clickin' with in 2024
Thanks for any suggestions if at all!

2024.04.23 15:24 Moms_Lil_Wizard Improve Ironman Mechanics in Raids

"What it means to be an Ironperson" has shifted since its inception. In the beginning, the PvM content available in OSRS was limited enough that you could very reasonably 'take on Runescape, solo'.
Since then however, certain bosses, and even entire raids (Nex, ToB) have come out that are not REALISTIC to solo. Furthermore, teamwork in these settings drive to create some of the most engaging and enjoyable content in the game for many people, including cross-play between all accounts types. Slay with your friends, claim your own loot, is now an integral part of the Ironperson experience.
I was inspired to make this post by a single mechanic that was introduced in the Tombs of Amascut raid that really caught me off-guard. Rejuvination potions could benefit other ironmen.
This change made me realize that there are a lot of restrictions in raids that I feel like serve more to limit the engagement of the raid rather than respect the intent of the Ironperson mode.
Recently the release of 'Moth Mixes' (an AoE out of raid healing solution) dropped and I was hopeful it might also work in Tombs of Amascut given its similarity to Rejuvenation potions, it unfortunately did not work.
So what am I asking? Well I think the answer is a little more nuanced and requires discussion rather than just a blanket roll-back of anti-iron mechanics in Raids. For instance, I think 90 Herblore and the ability to make your own overloads is a really cool milestone, and it would not be an enhancement to gameplay to let Iron's skip that barrier by resorting to friends (but again I'd like this to be a dialogue, that's just my opinion)
So instead I'm trying to define mechanics below that I think can safely be pulled back in such a way that they enhance the raiding experience for all account types (as Mains are often subject to deal with the annoyances of being an Iron in a raid by proxy).
Here are my proposed changes but I'd love to hear your thoughts, I truly feel like these changes would not be "OP" but would rather allow all account types to work together in a more powerful dynamic:
Allow the following spells to be cast in all 3 raids ignoring account restrictions.
Venge Other
Boost Potion Share.
Energy Transfer (I'm trying to figure out if there is anything game breaking that can be done in raids with this but I couldn't find a realistic abusable method)
Restore Potion Share
Allow the following items to be used in all 3 raids ignoring account restrictions.
Moonlight Moth Mixes (Imagine being able to tick eat for your entire group in Muttadile)
Sunlight Moth Mixes
Other things I think might be too OP but again, I'm open to hear everyone's thoughts

2024.04.20 23:40 tailztyrone-lol How would you feel if some Members Skills went up to Level 10 in F2P?

Coming from RS3, it was one of the things that, whilst it wasn't a huge deciding factor in me getting membership, it certainly helped me ease into it (and it was nice to have a teaser of what was to come).
The below are just a few things of note that would come with this:
Agility:
Thieving:
Farming:
Fletching:
Slayer:
Construction:
I opted to leave out Hunter and Herblore - Hunter and Herblore are limited to Members' Areas (Creatures & Quest).
But yeah, do you think this would help with retaining new players who don't want to make the jump to members just to check out some of the rest of the skills?
Would it be worth it in the long run? I'd go off on a limb and say it might be just enough of a tease to make people want more.
But yeah, I'd just love to read everybody else's feedback about it!

2024.04.16 23:11 RegiSilver My Suggestion for the Halloween Event 2024: Deathcon III

My Suggestion for the Halloween Event 2024: Deathcon III
DISCLAIMER: This is just a Suggestion for what I'd personally love to see from the 2024 Seasonal H'ween event, and I have the dream this bad boy announcement will be droped at Runefest, It would be the perfect time to announce this return, so, without further ado, let's get right into it:
Deathcon III - The Beckoning!

The Story (Part 1: Return of the Deathcon!)

Frank got Kidnapped by a "Mysterious Necromancer" and taken somewhere into the City of Um.
Death finds this a little problematic because Frank needs to fill in for him while he's busy somewhere else (as usual), but also he can't leave his guests hanging at the gates of the citadel, even less so after the big return of Deathcon after all.
Our "Mini Quest" then, becomes finding all the clues to exactly pinpoint where in the City this necromancer may be hiding Frank.
Muncher can help us find these clues around the City (similar to the Meerkat Familiars) by pointing us in the right direction, he's a good EX-Doggo after all.
Once we've cracked the case, we'll have to face the "Mysterious Necromancer" in a final confrontation! But worry not, because there's no combat involved (at least, not yet), but we deal some serious eeeemotional daaamage to this guy.
This character is then revealed to be just a Robed Skeleton who is mad at Death for never inviting him to the Deathcon, who would've thought grudges remain even in Death haha.
There's a bit of an emotional moment here where this skeleton speaks about things like exclusion and alienation, but with proper tact and finesse, not to make a statement or to make fun of the topic or pander to anyone, if anything, this aims to bring awareness on how we should treat each other with equity and respect, in classic RS Fashion of course.
After we rescue Frank he returns to his "deathly duties" and makes some humorous remarks about how he ended up in this situation, turns out it was all a big misunderstanding that got out of hand and Frank didn't knew better.
Once everything's said and done, we ask Death if this Skeleton character could Join the Deathcon activities and he happily agrees, mentioning he tried contacting this particular skeleton before, but the skeleton didn't picked up his Skel-Phone so it was impossible to reach him, to which the skeleton replies he dislikes his lack of touch because reception in the City of Um is deadly, then both of them laugh except for our character (who doesn't get the puns), to which both Death and the Skeleton reply with even more puns.
In the end, this Skeleton jumps with joy and says this is the best day of his "Un-Life", everyone's friends again, and Death returns to his citadel.
Once the quest is finished we gain access to the Venue where we can AFK various activities, just like any regular Haloween Event.
The Citadel's Garden.
Oh how I missed this venue.

As usual, Zabeth Corvid will be playing with his band Black Zabeth (hopefully, hopefully, with a new Heavy Metal song).
The Children of the Grave return!
Do Note: This Miniquest shouldn't take more than 20 minutes, it's a seasonal quest but it's enjoyable.

***

The Activities:

After gaining access to the Venue, there's plenty of Skiling Spots to train on.
Keep in mind: 4 Skilling Spots are available to F2P and 2 are exclusive to Members.
That said, this time around the Skilling Spots include:
  • Runecrafting: Where we have to restore some of Death's Heirlooms or as he calls them his "Deathy Hallows".
  • Dungeoneering: Yep somehow The Hole is here, on a floating island no less... Looks like the old mine collapsed.
  • Firemaking: Throwing twigs at the "Wicker Skeleton" on the Backyard while Black Zabeth plays with his band in the background "Deathcon Open Air!".
  • Woodcutting: Just helping death whis his "bloody choking ivy" troubles (this is a Bloodwood version of Choking Ivy to adhere to the atmosphere, no items gained).
  • Construction: We have to fix Black Zabeth's scenario, instruments and amps to ensure the show goes on! After all these guys can't stop playing.
  • Agility: Muncher has taken the leg of the "skeleton guest" (yes, the entire thing) and now he's trying to catch this undead mutt in order to get his leg back (jumping with one leg in the most humorous way possible), we just click on Muncher and we follow him in circles around a designated area changing directions ocassionally.
Keep in mind, these activities are for people who would like to AFK something at their own leisure, and for those who are already used to these kind of seasonal events.
These are just suggestions, not final.

The Story (Part 2: A Wishlist to Die for!)

Death wants this Deathcon to be the most memorable one in the history of Gielinor, so he's planning to build a new fountain, to that end he needs only the "finest of bones" found exclusively at the farthest corners of the world, however, there's a catch he forgot to mention... More on that later.
The fountains of the Citadel. Bloody tears!
To get these special bones we need to navigate around Gielinor and locate the correct spot using a modified version of the Ectoplasmator, however before we dig up the spots a Restless Spirit will attack, the Spirit Level scales with our Combat Level, once defeated we can get pick their bones.
Some of the proposed spots for this list include:
  • Wilderness Crater.
  • Het's Oasis.
  • Wizard's Tower.
  • Daemonheim.
  • Goblin Village.
  • Rimmington.
  • Dark Wizard's Tower.
  • Death's Plateau.
  • Draynor Manor.
  • Lumbridge Swamp.
Okay, so now that we have the Bones in Death's wishlist, we have to use our Necromancy Skill to Ensoul them and Build a "Statue of Death".
However, something goes wrong during the Ritual and the Statue becomes corrupted, meaning now we have to defeat it (in a similar fashion to the Skeletal Horror).
\"Image for reference, not the actual miniboss of the event\"
Once Defeated, much to Death's dismay, we're left with a Pile of Bones and Ectoplasm, however some of the Guests (who claim to have been museum curators) find this "brutalist piece of modern expressionism" just "oh so palatable, perchance to live for" and compliment Death for his refined taste, telling him they'll call some of his friends to come visit the veue next day.
Death is as impressed as us for the outcome of this, but he urge us to keep an eye on this Pile of Bones and return the next day, because he can sense some "lingering energy" still beating underneath.
Keep in mind, similar to the AFK activities aimed towards the people who like them and can spend hours at the skilling spots, this is meant for a more "time constrained" audience who only has 15-20 Minutes a day to play (at most).

***

Important Note about the Currency Tokens.

Both the AFK Activities and the Daily Miniboss offer the same opportunities for all kinds of players to buy the items in the Rewards Shop, meaning that you can just do the Miniboss everyday and buy everything at the end of the event, or just AFK a couple days and get everything on the same week.
This is meant to bring some flexibility to the player's playstyles and respect their personal timeframes.
But, for those who end with a Surplus of Tokens, these can be used to purchase Trick or Treat Tickets, which work in a similar fashion to the Lost Easter Basket Maps, giving similar rewards and exclusive new items like a Trick or Treat Bucket, which can be filled with various Spooky Sweets to make it look even more ghoulish.

Rewards (Rebranding the classics)

Keep in mind these are just proposals of rewards I think the Community would appreciate.
  • Death Con Hoodie (Override) (recolourable).
  • Hourglass Conduit (Override).
  • Sesera (Flaming Skull Follower Pet) (Recolourable).
  • Blackwing Warlock (Zabeth's Corvid Guitar) (2H Maul modelled after a B.C Rich Warlock Guitar) (Enhances the Air Guitar Emote if Unlocked).
  • Miasmic Swiftness (Teal Recolour of Death's Swiftness) (Tradeable) (1 Per account).
  • Moonlight (White-ish Recolor of Sunshine, with a Moon instead of a Sun) (Tradeable) (1 Per account).
  • Skully Barricade (With Teal Skulls instead of shields forming a dome) (Tradeable) (1 Per account).
  • Trick or Treat Ticket (the Currency Tokens Sink).

***

Closing thoughts.

H'ween with friends, just like in the old days!
After reading Jagex's notes about the next Halloween event, I feel like 2 short miniquests (in the same spirit as 2006 - 2011 RuneScape) alongside a repeateable miniboss (catered towards the more busier kind of players) and the more modern AFK Skilling Spots, would be the perfect blend for any RuneScape player, be it a new player, a returning one or a veteran.
The Rewards should prove desirable enough, and the Currency Tokens distributed in a fair manner depending on the amount of time invested at the event; but at the same time, offering flexible options for all kinds of playstyles, be it 10 minutes a day or 10 hour a day.
On top of it, this event should be more than just an AFK skilling station or its cosmetic rewards, it should be a trip down memory lane that would fill the hearts of plenty of veterans out there with nostalgia, this is all the event needs to be unique, and finally, after so many years, bring the first ever Equippable Guitar into the Game.
PS: On a personal note, I think a bit of Heavy Metal wouldn't hurt, a Flaming Skull (not Pazelius tho) and a Warlock Guitar for Spooky Month would be pretty fitting :)

2024.04.12 02:56 Bodsdolfine I think destiny is going to die for 2 reasons maybe something to look into.

1 most importantly they need to change the max level raids and all that junk to stop being above max lvl, I know I'll get a ton of argument on this so I'll explain. My lvl on all 3 of my characters rn is 1825 or there about. I got a chest that instantly gave me 1810 in all slots on all my characters..... my biggest issue with destiny is that I'm literally maxed now I can't get any higher arms helm weapons nothing, only my artifact can slowly af level up, nightfall grandmaster is 1840..... who can even reach that, my main point from this complaint is if max gear level is 1810 then no mode at all should require 1840 max it should require 1800. Because it takes literallllll tensssss of hours for a casual player like me to get to 1810 or max, if it wasn't for that chest I'd be 1800 maybe by end of season I was 1780 before the chest. It's just too grindy and by the time u reach that absurd beyond cap lvl there's hardly anyone to play with on those types of events, excluding hidden sectors which u solo but it's the same exact thing to get exotic gear from hidden sectors u need to be a beyond mega fan and play wayyyy to much.... with all that said I'm perfectly fine with some things being locked to high lvl and the grinds being a bit longer, I mean I maxed a runescape acc on oldschool which takes literal yearsso I'm not just pissy at long grinds. It's just the way these grinds are setup. Maybe if I got into a good clan who could run high lvl activities I'd find it fun, but the whole point of locking too many activities behind a lvl that I view as impossible is just dumb to me. And I look my entire clan doesn't have a person over 1825 and I've never seen a person while playing over 1825 so no one I've seen playing the game can do grandmaster nightfall rn or hidden sectors, even the lowest tier of daily hidden sector is impossible for them without cheese. I had to cheese a hidden sectors to get my exotic item on my titan, ice fall mantels which I feel is the most useful exotic I ve seen for my playstyle of tank
  1. I think charging 100 dollars for each new dlc is killing the player base off slowly over time... each new dlc less and less players are getting back into the game. It's the most I've ever seen for any battle pass dlc bs in my life. It should be max 60 bucks, and the battle pass should be sold separately for like 20 if u want it.
I just spent over 250 dollars on destiny this month alone.... so I am their target player. And those are the exact reasons I have problem playing destiny. In fact I loved the chest that boosted me to 1810 but then I found out the limit this season is 1810 so I'm honestly probably going to do a few quests and masterworks I have left and just mess around and end up leaving the game till next season because I have no real progression left. I absolutely love the new game mode I think that was genius and much needed, the changes to strikes were ok, tbh I didn't see a problem keeping the strikes the way they were, I've done them each hundreds or thousands of times but I had ones I loved and ones I hated and to me all the new strike changes are for the worst for the most part imo, but I do understand trying to change them up slightly. I am enjoying the game but that chest just killed me this season, and in case u don't know what I'm talking about the new dlc has an icon if u follow that quest line like 1 or 2 quests in u get a chest with every single slot 1810 tier. I'm not sure why they did that honestly. Because I think this season still has over 60 days so that's a long ass time to just be sitting at max lvl waiting on the 1 lvl at a time from artifact xp to lvl u up.
Tldr I'm not just complaining to complain, I want to see this game live on, it's literally the only live service game I've seen do well and I love. I just want to see if I'm the only person who feels this way or not

2024.04.09 15:52 Bigmethod [Suggestion] FrostSun Heart & Sustainable reward spaces for the future of Oldschool Runescape

Preamble: Progression-driven rewards are the lifeblood of progression-driven MMOs, RS included, and are generally what push players to do new content. Contrary to popular belief, power creep isn't some horrible, terrifying demon that destroys games. It's like soda -- delicious in moderation. And finding creative ways of minimizing it while also integrating that feeling of progression that people love is the sustainable future for games like Runescape which currently offer LOADS of different avenues for that feeling in every skill.
In combat updates, one such method is through item integration. Take an older item that doesn't see much play (Dragon Chainbody), and make it a component of a newer item. This way, that old item will remain as relevant as the new one.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
AOE and OSRS: A meta that isn't often spoken of in OSRS is chinning and barraging. It's essentially an aoe cleave meta around two (or three) very powerful aoe spells that currently exist in the game. There are very few spots that utilize this meta, which makes them contested, and I doubt I'd be saying something controversial by suggesting that it wasn't intended.
While keeping some niche is important to the diversity in the game, I see quite a few opportunities to grow such methods down the line. It's a very unique style of play which, at best, is a little janky to set up and at worst, feels counterintuitive to the game (which in some ways it is!). Although the balance around it, being that you get little to no loot from doing it, is an interesting emergent restriction.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
New Group Boss:
It seems like the new group boss is something icy due to it being on top of a mountain. Varlamore is also sunthemed, so why not merge the two into the first unique idea:
FrostSun Heart: The heart of whatever monster we brave atop the peaks of Varlamore. This heart is a component item, rather than a unique in and of itself, and has multiple uses that branch out into a singular purpose: fleshing out a small AOE meta in a game that has mostly always been 1 on 1 fighting.
The intention here isn't to redefine the way you play the game, but rather just elaborate on an existing option. Due to this, I'm mostly retaining this items uses firmly within Mage and Range, as they are the preexisting styles which allow this AOE to be accomplished. Similarly, Jagex has been wanting to find ways to make the standard spellbook relevant so...
Uses:

Hoarfrost Pendant: The second, and final unique from this group boss would be a rare amulet that hopefully, finally shifts some power away from the Occult Necklace which has dominated mage for a long time.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Summary & TL;DR: One untapped reward space is slightly expanding on niches found through emergent gameplay, such as barraging or chinning. The idea here isn't to establish a new meta, but rather iterate on an existing one by adding more tools to the arsenal of those interested in exploring said methods.
The FrostSun Heart is an attachment to the Master wand and Ballista that enhances the standard spellbook and allows the Ballista to fire Chinchompas, with fun passive effects.
The Hoarfrost Pendant can be created by combining an Imbued Ice Shard unique with the Occult Necklace, shifting some power from the Occult to this item while also doubling down on the barraging niche.
Final Note: As one may have noticed, these items don't offer direct, single target damage increases. The idea isn't to create another spec weapon or something to supersede the Fang or Twisted Bow, but rather to make the final climb to 99 slayer more fun, or, if received well, to open up new potential training methods that can be seen in future updates (ones that perhaps emphasize AoE in some way).

2024.04.09 04:40 Guardian_Gallade Missing Content

Just got my book and I'm super excited to play it. As this sub has already touched on, the rules have a lot of weak spots but the core seems exciting and most of the largest issues have been suitably homebrewed over. However, of all the criticism I've seen around this game, I haven't seen any mention of the part of the book that confuses me the most: their patchy choice of content coverage.
For example, take a look at the unique weapon and armor options. We have the abyssal whip, but no abyssal demons. Dragon scimitar, but no mention of Ape Atoll beyond its label on the map. Godswords and the ACB but no GWD!
And on the flipside, we have all 6 Barrows brothers, but not one unique drop among them. I'm not expecting a whole armor set for each one, but we could have at least had the weapons. And despite the book mentioning upgrades as a mechanic (while having no examples except the Godsword, which barely counts since the blade alone has no stats) as well as the anti-dragon shield and the dragonfire shield, the actual upgrade process from one to the other isn't given and neither Vorkath nor KBD drop a Draconic Visage.
Let's keep going with their weird monster inclusions. We have Jad and Zuk, but none of their minions outside of the healers. The Culinaromancer, but none of his food monster abominations. They include basilisks whose stat block mentions a mirrored shield, but no such shield is actually listed in the equipment section.
It feels like they tried to do a "greatest hits" from across Runescape but ended up not implementing any of them with enough depth. I would have been fine with the core rulebook covering less than this, maybe just content from Asgarnia and Misthalin, and give it a more thorough implementation. Every iconic monster they include has their iconic unique drops, and vice versa. That would leave plenty of room for expansion books in the future with new items, monsters and bosses. I'd buy the crap out of a Morytania expansion with the barrows brothers, ToB monsters, slayer tower, etc. along with all their drops. Same goes for the Desert, the Wilderness, Kourend...
As it is, I think before I bring this game to my table I'll be doing a LOT of work filling in those gaps myself. If I feel confident enough in my creations, I'll share them in the sub. The game has great bones and I hope they will continue to release content and fixes for it, but the book as they released it is disappointingly sloppy.

2024.04.08 08:00 AvMose Game Suggestion: Cosmetic boss KC milestone rewards for showing off dedication to a particular boss

I think that boss pet drops have been an insanely popular addition to Oldschool Runescape for many reasons, one of which being that it gives players a "chase" item that justifies the killing of a particular boss even if that boss's gp/h and/or xp/hr aren't "optimal" compared to other bosses.
It also allows a player to sort of show off the achievement of mastering a specific boss, since others will assume you probably had to kill the boss a ton to get that pet.
This is flawed, however, because boss pets can and do drop at very low KC all the time, so technically all it really shows off to the world is that you were able to kill that specific boss at least one, which isn't really that impressive when you put it that way, right?
I think bosses that drop pets should all be updated to also drop a different cosmetic that is themed to the boss, but as a guaranteed drop at a specific high KC. Such a drop would complement boss pets really well, since going dry on a pet will still be making progress towards a different achievement, and getting a lucky early pet drop from a boss you wanted to kill more of is now justified by a different chase drop.
As for what the actual cosmetic should be, I don't really know, anything that can complement the current pet drops while still being a nice standalone cosmetic drop for anyone who doesn't have the accompanying pet yet. I'd leave it up to jagex to think of a new category of cosmetic that can be themed like bosses and be a cool way to show off an achievement without being gaudy or intrusive like RS3 cosmetics are known to be. Hell, maybe it wouldn't even need to be a new type of cosmetic, but rather just an achievement cape like our current skill capes, but for boss KC?
What do we think? Could this reinvigorate some older and "suboptimal" bosses by providing a new per-boss accomplishment to show off?

2024.04.08 01:57 HostBrownie My introduction to Runescape (Week 2)

Quick Recap from Week 1:

As a quick summary from my previous post I made, I decided to try out Runescape and attempt to go blind. I wanted to see how far I could get by using the information the game gives me while also accepting help from other players before relying on the internet. I made a previous post detailing my first week into the game which might have been just a tad too long but still impressed over the response from the community. Instead of writing down what I did day by day, I think it would be better to structure this post in a way that shows the main highlights and accomplishments of the second week and onwards.
I decided not to take any donations, trades or potential free items. I didn't want to skip through the early stages of the account but appreciated the generiosity from the community regardless, and that even led to some amazing moments in the game. In regards to the last post, I have contacted the person from reddit from my little giveaway. I'll leave it up to them if they want to be anonymous otherwise I'll add an edit after I finish posting this.

Enough rambling, get on with it:

Okay this post won't be nearly as long as the previous one and I really wanted to make some videos while recording some really funny moments and reactions in the game. I think mainly the confusion but I don't think I am able to do so unfortunately. With that said, I think it is a little late to make a video on an account that already has progression on it but we'll see what the future holds. I made some screenshots of all my progress and a reference to a previous post that I liked and will try to keep it up to date (Okay looks like this post might still be a tad long, goodness my story telling isn't up to par.)

Progression:

From the previous post that I made, the response was honestly amazing and loads of you guys gave such great tips and it even gave me something to work towards in the game. With that said, I had a goal and decided to upgrade my stats little by little.. So I decided to go back to cows for the main reason of doing clue scrolls. At the time I didn't know what to kill to get clue scrolls and I knew it was somewhat reliable and quick at the cow pen. There were definitely times I went back to those .. Flesh Crawlers? I dunno the cockroaches of xp in the stronghold.
The main reason I went back to cows was not only for the reason of selling cowhide or doing clue scrolls, but to maintain my status as a champion of fear within the cow pen. Refer to the images for more context, updates and potential goodies from my clue scrolls! So for those curious to how many cows I've killed, check the images wherever they might appear from. I decided on installed Runelite but didn't realise it tracked my kills and drops, so unfortunately it's not going to be 100% accurate because I didn't start the game with it. I'd say maybe adding another 500 to 1,000 kills sounds good to me!
Most of my playtime is on quite a populated world and I see some players from time to time struggling for food, equipment or whatever it may be. Every so often I would help where I can and at least some of them appreciated it while others waited not even 2 minutes and asked for more items. Unfortunately looks like a common theme since I see the same players log on at different times.

Quests:

So I decided to go on a quest journey, it was fun and I was adviced to install a quest helper. Now my first impressions is a little disappointing since you don't feel that involved in the quest when it tells you exactly what to do and where to go. Players have told me that some quests can be tedious and I'd need it to make my life that much easier, I can agree but I think I might turn it off until I actually struggle or find difficulty in such quests. But to summarise my questing journey, it was all smooth sailing.
A random player walked up to me wanting to start a quest together, I didn't even realise some quests involved multiple players which sounds pretty cool honestly. They were pretty relaxed and patient with me but we made some progress on The Shield of Arrav and parted ways.
After doing that and working my way through the other quests, I eventually landed at dragon slayer, getting the gear and items needed to get there wasn't too bad. Grabbed my salmon, my trusty rune equipment and said let's go dragon hunting! My stats at the time were in the 40s, climbed down the ladder and immediately saw my foe. I even had a spectator cheer me on! Sooo yeah long story short I got absolutely destroyed and found out I can escape by climbing over the small wall. My spectator told me not to give up even though I'm unable to land a hit on the dragon, we had a laugh and I'm pretty sure he wanted to see me fail. I also wasn't expecting it to be level 80+ so that took me by surprise!
Came back a little more geared up, had a strength potion from one of the random character events so took that in with me along with higher healing food and the second time was much easier. Oh how it helps to actually prepare to fight a legendary dragon. With Elvarg being slain, I can now purchase a rune platebody and have completed all the quests that are free to play. Not too bad if I say so myself!

A lending hand from passing players:

So first of all, I would not have made this much progress without the help from other players. I have met some toxic and rude people along my journey but majority of them have been kind and helpful, I even have a fellow player I'm progressing with. Even though he's played the game before and has some knowledge of the game, it was a while ago so I think some parts are hazy. He was really upset when I told him there's an option to drop items in your inventory under your settings by shift clicking. Oh he was not happy finding that out after dropping hundreds of ore while mining. I even found out that you can alternate your run by holding ctrl and clicking on a tile for moments you want to walk or run in style!
I did unfortunately come across many bots but it took some understanding and for people to show me what a bot really is in the game. Now I understand this being a free game, cheats can potentially be a lot more common but I still can't grasp why you would have something play the game for you that isn't an afk clicker but I think this could lead to a potential heated discussion so I'll just leave it at that.

Walking by a drop party and quiz show:

Now I saw a really funny player hosting a quiz show which included trivia, simon says and loads of funny games so I thought I'd participate for fun. Now with that in mind, I'm still unsure if I wanted to use any items given to me from this quiz show on this account for the time being, just for the authenticity of it being a true blind experience while not accepting help from other players (in the form of items.) I think I'll have to sleep on it, I'm still unsure if I want to use the money from the quiz show or just give it away honestly.
Managed to get some money and lucky drops which has funded me enough to get a bond. Now players have said that getting a membership subscription would be easier and a lot more comfortable. While I completely agree with this, I think I would prefer to get a bond for the time being and challenge myself to see if I'm able to somehow gain enough fortune to gain another bond while upkeeping the membership. We'll see how this goes but even if I may fail, who else is going to slay those cows, someone has to do it.

So, what's my goal now?

I'm planning on using the money that I gained to purchase a bond and dive into the world of members. I have a rough goal of what I want to do and I think I might work on agility just so I can be more nimble and not lose my breath while walking down the street along with training slayer. The way slayer was described to me sounds fun to me, having assignments to hunt down monsters all over the world allows me to not only see more regions and locations but also potentially fail spectacularly.
For the time being, I'll be trying to save up my money and work on the progression of this account, I won't be doing another giveaway until I feel like I can make a decent amount of money to fund both bonds and help the community at the same time. Not because I feel like I owe anything to the community but because I want to, everyone seems fun to talk to and I want to help out players where I can.
Thanks for the response to the people of the previous post, people cheering me on in game and the random players in game that took time of their day to help me out. I will post another update in 2 weeks and possibly do a monthly update. I don't want to spam so much rubbish in a short period of time so we'll just wing it like always.
Take care everyone and see you in the next one!

TL;DR:

Completed all the free to play quests, killed some cows and worked on levelling up my combat stats and other skills in preperation for members. Uploaded some images on an update on my stats for the second week along with goodies!
No giveaway this time? Booo

2024.04.07 23:03 oskanta Hunter Rumor Optimal Block Guide

[Edit: I've added all the info here to the Hunters' Rumours wiki article under the Strategies section. That should have the most up-to-date info.]

Hi everyone, I think this is the optimal setup for hunter rumors for xp/hr and Quetzin chance per hour. My real-world rates with this method are over 250k xp/hr and over 30 rumors completed per hour at level 99 (edit: I tested over 2 hours, averaged 300k xp/hr and 40 rumors per hour). I thought I'd put together a guide for everyone else on this grind.
If you want the tldr version that will get you 90% of the way there, just go to the block list and make sure you understand kebbit swapping.
Requirements: At least 72 hunter for expert rumors. Ideally 91 for an extra block slot.
If anyone sees something wrong or a further optimization that can be made, please let me know and I will update the post!
[ Edit: Commenters rightly pointed out that there's a risk Jagex may patch the kebbit swap method which is key to this block list. So be warned, it takes some time to set up this block list and you may need to redo it if it's patched.
Also thanks to u/rg44tw for pointing out Pyre Foxes are no longer assigned to Teco. I improved the block list from 4/7 available rumors being kebbits to 4/6. ]

How to Set Up Blocks

(Skip to the next section if you already know how to do this)
If you'd like a video guide for blocking instead, this one by doubleshine is great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVmFeqATZzE
There are 6 hunters who assign rumors (1 novice, 2 adept, 2 experts, 1 master). After you receive a rumor assignment from one of the hunters, you can speak to another hunter and they will assign you a different rumor. That second rumor will now be your "active" rumor, but the first hunter will still store their rumor assignment. As long as a certain rumor is stored on one of the hunters, none of the other hunters will assign that rumor. This means by storing bad rumors on hunters you don't use, you effectively block that rumor from being assigned.
Example:
- Speak with Guild Hunter Cervus (Adept) and they assign you a Pyre Fox rumor
- Don't complete that rumor and instead speak with Guild Hunter Teco (Expert) and ask to switch to their rumor assignment.
- Now Pyre Foxes are "stored" on Cervus and "blocked" for every other hunter. You can receive rumors from all of the other hunters and they will never assign you Pyre Foxes as long as you don't complete the rumor from Cervus.
Tips:

Optimal Block List

Doing expert rumors is optimal for both xp/hr and Quetzin chance per hour even if you have access to masters.
This is because experts assign 4 Kebbit tasks while masters only assign one. Falconry kebbits are by far the fastest rumor and you can use kebbit swapping (explained below) to make all kebbit rumors falconry. Both experts and masters have the same pet chance per rumor (1/1000) and experts only give ~500xp less per rumor turned in. This means that the higher speed of experts makes them better for both xp and pet chance:

My Block List:

Some notes on this list:
- Once these blocks are set, you will have 6 rumors remaining which you can receive from the expert hunter: 4 different Kebbit tasks, Orange Salamanders and Red Chins.
- If you are not level 91 yet, block Sunlight Antelopes on novice instead. Leave Red Salamanders or grey chins unblocked, you will have to do these until you unlock master rumors for the extra block.
- You can swap the positions if the blocks with each other as long as the block is available on both, i.e. Sunlight Antelopes blocked on novice and Red Salamander blocked on Master. It's equivalent so just go with whichever one you get first. The list above is just to give a single example. Check the wiki hunter rumor article for the different ways to construct this list.
- Orange Salamanders are much better than Red despite being lower level. They are guaranteed catch after level 87 while Red Salamanders are only 82% at 87 and 94% at 99. Orange salamanders also have 5 traps right next to each other in Necropolis (near ToA) which are much better positioned and less crowded than the Red Salamander spot.
- Red Salamanders are almost twice as fast as Red Chins even with tick manipulation. You will get a more xp/hr using Red Salamanders, but it's fine to swap in Red Chins for the pet chance and some extra gp/hr.
- The novice hunter takes a long time to set up. If you don’t plan on doing rumors for long, you can just skip that block. You’ll be a less efficient by losing a block, but much shorter setup time.

Kebbit Swapping
This is the reason why this block list is so good. Experts assign 4 different kebbit tasks but each of them can effectively be swapped for spotted kebbits. Here's how:
  1. Get a kebbit task assigned from your Expert hunter (razor-backed, sabre-toothed, dark or dashing)
  2. Speak to the Adept hunter with spotted kebbits stored, and ask to switch to their assignment
  3. Go complete the spotted kebbit assignment at falconry and receive the "Kebbity Tuft"
  4. Do not return to the Adept hunter. Instead, go back to your Expert hunter and switch your assignment back to them. Immediately turn in the Kebbity Tuft in your inventory to complete the expert assignment.
The reason this works is because every kebbit drops the same rumor item.
Some people might worry this is an exploit or bug abuse, but I don't think that's the case. The examine text for Kebbity Tuft is "I'm not even sure which of them this came from," which shows that it wasn't an accident they all drop the same item.

Toggling Back to Back Rumors
Another optimization is to turn on b2b rumors by speaking to Verity after you receive a kebbit task and then turn it off after you receive anything else.
This means that after a kebbit rumor you will have a 4/6 chance to receive another kebbit rumor, and after a non-kebbit rumor you will have a 4/5 chance to receive a kebbit rumor. It's quick to do and in the long run it will save a lot of time.
Teleports
Given the high number of rumor completions per hour with this method, teleports to the hunting locations matter a lot for achieving maximum xp rates.
For Falconry tasks, the fastest way to get there is with a Piscatoris Teleport scroll. However, these are currently over 10k each, so you will be burning up to 250k gp/hr using this method. The next best way is to use fairy rings. If you have a ring in your house, this gives you an opportunity to top up your stamina each time.
For Orange Salamanders, Pharaoh's scepter is the best teleport to the Necropolis location. The next best is the fairy ring to the south. For Red Salamanders, the Ourania Teleport on the Lunar spell book is the best teleport. There is also a teletab if you'd prefer to stay on standard spellbook. For Red Chins, if using the hunting locations north of Prifddinas, the spirit tree in Prifddinas is the best teleport. For the Feldip Hills location, either fairy ring or hunter cape teleport is best.
Finally, for returning to the Hunters' guild, players under level 99 should use the Quetzal whistle. Players with level 99 can use the hunter cape to teleport directly to the center of the Hunter's guild. This is a big time save once you reach level 99 if you are still pet hunting.
The 300k xp/hr and 40 rumors rates I achieved were using Piscatoris teleport scrolls, Pharaoh's Sceptre, Ourania Teleport, and Hunters cape teleport.
______________
Didn't expect this to be so long, but I hope it's helpful! I'll try to answer any questions in the comments.

2024.04.07 21:39 mysongotaweirdworld My 5 Year Old Son Got An INCREDIBLY Weird World Seed

Okay, so here's what happened:
Last Christmas, I got my 5 year old son a Switch Lite & Minecraft. He had recently got really into Minecraft Lego sets & loves watching Maizen, & after I watched him build an actual Netherportal with Legos with no help, I realized he is definitely ready for Minecraft. Needless to say, the kid is a natural, & so far the game has taught him how to read, coordination, & he is incredibly knowledgeable about which recipes build what. He has made me very proud so far.
So I, a 31 year old veteran gamer with a maxed out PC, decided to get Minecraft as well, & I also got it for my PS5, so he & I could play in his worlds together. I had never played Minecraft before, not for any reason, I'm just more of a Castlevania/Dark Souls/Runescape type of dude. Anyways, obviously, I got super into it & started my own private Hardcore Survival game, & so far I personally think I'm doing great. Between you & me, I have learned a ton of cool tricks from that JJ kid from Maizen. So, at this point, we are about 3/4 months in, & both of us are well-versed in the way Minecraft works. Also, my experience with Survival has taught me how the World's generate, the rarity of Villages, the rarity of Portals, items, etc. I have already found Amethyst in my own game, so I am well aware that Calcite can only generate near Amethyst & Mountain peaks, that Sweet Berries can't grow in sand, just stuff like that. I know it sounds random, but trust me, it's relevant.
Anyways, at this point, my son has built like 55-something Worlds on my PS5. He likes choosing random Worlds he made & just messing around in Creative. So last night, he asked me to help him pick a World, & I did. I picked a totally random My World from the massive list of similarly-named Worlds, started it up. I would like to point out that my 5 year old son generated this World. He has zero knowledge in Seeds or even how to change the settings to Show Coordinates & stuff like that, & I did not help in any way with the making of this world. I'm decent at Minecraft, but I haven't gotten THAT deep, to where I'm messing with Seeds & mods & whatnot. So, I clicked the world, & let it load.
When the World loaded, I saw that he had an Eye of Ender (he plays Creative) on his Hotbar, so just to be silly, I threw one as far as I could up in the sky just to make a post noise when I telephoned, just yknow, to make my son laugh. Well, when I telephoned, I immediately saw a Sweet Berry bush that had somehow spawned on a Sand block right next to the water. Super weird, but I'm still pretty new ish, so I let it go. Well, as I kept flying around, I started noticing some absolutely INSANE luck. There was one spot where I could quite literally see 3 Villages & 2 Netherportals IN THE SAME SCREENSHOT. I saw Diorite spawning next to Sand in the middle of sandy Beach spots. I saw about 15 different Villages within about 3 minutes. I counted 9 different Nether Portals, almost all with Chests that contained heavily Enchanted Golden Pickaxes, with things like Silk Touch I & Fire Charges. I even found 1 that had I think 18 Obsidian in it. I found a spot that had Snow on top of Sand blocks. I found a spot that had Dirth Path blocks touching Diorite touching Tuff touching Cobblestone touching Iron, all within a Mineshaft that was IN THE MIDDLE of a Village. But the craziest part was this Mountain that caught my eye. It had a giant ring on Calcite around the top sort of in the shape of a sock, & after flying over to it, I quickly realized the weight of what I was seeing. Emerald blocks ON THE SURFACE of the mountain, one after another. We counted over 100 individual Iron Blocks literally sitting on the surface with NO digging whatsoever. The amount of Charcoal blocks is in the several hundreds. It is literally like the Mountain got turned inside-out, with all these normally underground Blocks just EVERYWHERE. I know this sounds like I'm some newbie getting too excited about nothing, but I thought about that, & so I decided to take down the Seed for the World & the Coordinates of where the first Emerald ore was. Not only to show you all, but I am DEFINITELY building a new Base on that damn Mountain! Are you kidding me, it is SURROUNDED with Iron & Emerald, with Villages, Nether Portals, & even an Illager Hideout all within sight. I'd be crazy NOT to pursue that Seed in Survival.
So all I ask is that someone with real credentials & real experience with what's weird/rare & what isn't to generate the Seed for me & just look around a bit in Creative, just to see what I'm talking about. There is something... off about this World. Something uncanny, that I can't quite put my finger on. There are Islands out in the middle of the ocean made out of Gravel for Pete's sake! I have never in my life seen a Sweet Berry plant growing out of a Sand block before, & the weirdest part is, as soon as I approached the Sweet Berry, it just destroyed itself without me touching it AT ALL, like the World realized it had made a mistake or something & had gotten caught. Just, someone who knows what they're talking about, please go generate this Seed & tell me if I'm overreacting, or if I'm right about this Seed being INCREDIBLY lucky with the way it's generated.
Here are the Seed & a few other Coordinates that I found interesting:
SEED: -3532944248559781481
Emerald Ore: 2297, 136, -765 2307, 127, -766 2363, 143, -699 2378, 139, -764
Illager Hideout: 2775, 137, -488
Sweet Berry in Sand: 681, 63, -2064
Underground Hanging Garden/Emerald: 1098, 101, -1891 1160, 97, -1898
Nether Portal w/ Crazy Enchantments: 1393, 96, -2270 3244, 97, -1615
Gravel Island with Lavafall: 2052, 76, -1497
I'll update this with more Coordinates that stand out to me.
All I'm really asking is for someone with more experience to take a good look around the World & tell me if I'm crazy, or if the World definitely has something weird going on with it.
Thanks!

2024.03.31 17:38 HostBrownie My introduction to Runescape (1 week)

Hey everyone, I've not used reddit before and I've not played Runescape either so I thought I'd give it a go. One of my friends said I should make a video or tell everyone my journey and see where things go from there. Whether it's a good idea or people aren't interested, I guess we shall find out but since I didn't think to record the first few days I think it was fair to detail my steps in writing.
(I was also told to pick a flair for this post so I'm not sure if that's correct but here we go!)
So I will be showing my first week on runescape and it might be a little long so if it gets boring, skip to the end for a quick summary. I wanted to go into this game blind not looking into anything and avoid any videos online, not sure how long I'll play until I start researching online but let's see how things go!

Day 1: Starting small

Things started simple, I created my character and entered the world of runescape. I did the tutorial and totally didn't run into a problem known in the industry as a potential 'skill issue' but I powered through and completed step one. I finished the tutorial and was teleported into the main world, I was a little overwhelmed at first with loads of text on my screen so I thought I would keep things simple and stay close to spawn to fight nearby enemies and working on increasing my damage/survivability. My main focus on enemies were killing goblins, rats and the occassional civilian.
Still feeling a little overwhelmed, I ended day 1 a little earlier than I wanted and got some levels in my combat stats.

Day 2: Tour guide

I met the reaper today, nice guy!
I thought I lost my items but I didn't think it would be an issue since I'm not that far into the game but I found my gravestone right next to my spawn and picked up my items and continued where I left off. Been talking to some NPCs to see where the game wants to guide new players. Saw someone called Jon the Adventurer, seems like a good guy to talk to after levelling some skills after being prompted in the chat box. I wanted to try something out and I thought I'd attack the civilians of this area and die again out of curiosity just to see if there's any penalty but looks like I can just spawn right next to my grave and pick up my items so I just kept doing that for a while.
I met some other players in the community and majority of them were nice and generous. One player wanted to give me some items and money to help jumpstart my journey but I decided that I wanted to earn items and gear myself. It felt more rewarding to obtain items myself and think it would be unfair to skip ahead and just buy myself items and skip past the struggles of the early game. He was surprised that I didn't take any items and decided to give me a small tour of runescape and what I can work towards, so now I had goals I can work towards.
He gave me a basic introduction to the grand exchange, wilderness, quests, places to start level fishing, mining and an understanding of bots in this game which made sense with the amount of messages being spammed. I also got a clue scroll which I thought was a treasure map that said I needed a red cape but I would deal with that another day.

Day 3: Trying something new

I decided to have a little wander around today and do something different, so I opened up the map and chose a random direction to walk in and headed to a city called Falador. Passed a small area called barbarian village which looks like a nice place to level up but I think I might need to be a little stronger before but that will be something future me can figure out. Had a little look around falador but I think I saw some high level characters and I wasn't quite sure what was going to attack me so I decided to retreat back to lumbridge and work on my other skills.
I started fishing and cooking! With the information another player gave me, I headed towards the lumbridge swamp and started to fish some shrimp. I didn't catch many at a time since I carried everything with me instead of putting it into the bank. Had a rough idea of what players were doing, they would take turns cutting down a tree and lighting a fire to give others a chance to cook food. So whenever someone would place a fire, I would then gather 1 or 2 logs to light fires for everyone else.
Half way through the day, I made some good progress on fishing and noticed I'm not burning as many shrimp which was nice for when I'd like to cook myself some food when I challenge tougher enemies. I did some mining since I was interested in crafting myself some armour and weapons so I went back to the lumbridge spawn, gathered myself some ore and kept smelting bronze equipment and sold it in the local general store. I have some money!

Day 4: The restriction

I continued to do some more mining, it just felt relaxing to do something and have a video in the background, had a few players to talk to which was nice and worked my way to craft some steel bars and turn that into some weapons. I then went to the grand exchange to sell them to then realise that my account is restricted, I'm unable to sell items or give other players items which I didn't like. I needed play time, quest points and whatever the other requirement was, so that's just what I decided to do that day. I had some money from selling some steel equipment at the general store but wanted to keep some just in case they sold for more at the grand exchange.
I also found the store that sold the red cape, with the help of a random player so I quickly did that clue scroll. Did feel weird that there was a popup that would tell me exactly what to do but I didn't know how to turn it off so I just left it there and accepted the guidance. I then got another clue scroll which gave me a hot and cold like minigame to the treasure. I may have spent too long trying to find where I had to go.
Many hours later I decided to jump onto the quest journey and unlock my restriction. I don't remember the exact order of quests but I'll try and remember them from memory. The player who gave me a tour unlocked the quest to do Rune Mysteries so that's exactly what I did first. Was a nice and simple quest so I thought I'd work on getting those quest points that I needed and spoke to a wizard to unlock Imp Catcher. Sounds like this might take a while so I'll kill any imps that I pass in case I get some beads. Did The Restless Ghost followed by Sheep Shearer and moving on to help a cook with Cook's Assistant. Unfortunately couldn't take a slice of the cake and worked my way to Varrock and did Romeo and Juliet. Unsure if that's all the quests that I did but over the next few days, I did also complete The Knight's Sword and Imp Catcher which wasn't too bad since I only killed 12-13 to get all the beads I needed.
It's finally done, now I just need the play time so I decided to stay on for a long time since I also overheard some players talking about some potential money making methods with hunting cows. They seem easy to kill and they mention collecting the cowhide. So I did just that, killing the cows and taking their cowhide while banking them to eventually sell them in the grand exchange once the restriction has been lifted.
Oh goodness what a long day but while killing cows, I spoke to a player telling them how I was questing and they felt bad for me since I wasn't using something called Runelite. So I decided to work on that tomorrow while also collecting the hides hoping to gain a small fortune to help myself get started while also working on my stats. Found out my restriction has ended by giving someone some burnt food, I don't know it just happened to be in my inventory and they were looking for it but refused all kind of payment for it since it felt a little odd to be paid for burnt food.
I headed to the grand exchange and sold all the cowhide that I gained and earned myself a good amount of money, I thought I was doing pretty well with close to 10k after selling all my equipment that I made but I gained a fortune I thought I wouldn't see in a while and collected close to 100k. Honestly, really was not expecting that but I eventually found out in time that tanning the hide would have made me a little more money and someone eventually led me to a place to tan the hide. Not really upset that I could have made a lot more money but it was a good learning experience.

Day 5: Working on upgrades

There really wasn't much different happening on day 5, completed some clue scrolls just for fun and worked on collecting some more cowhide. I did come across a certain player that called my sword flimsy and weak and said that I should be using something stronger and more powerful. I decided to humour him and was also curious too and said I should look into the dungeon in Varrock. I was thinking, that'll be cool, he didn't spoil too much and left a lot of mystery in the air which I thought made it more fun. He then continued to call everyone else weak regardless of their prefence in their style of combat. I decided to have a quick look at that dungeon but did take me a fair while to find it on the map, assuming I went to the correct one, let's see how it goes!
Oh no I only just got out alive, I am not ready for this!
Back to cow pen we go haha..
But before that I decided to try out this Runelite thing. So I downloaded Runelite, launched the game and noticed that everything was very different so I think I spent a good hour and a bit changing all my settings and fixing this "blurry" feel with the window. After some troubleshooting and rough help from players, we got through it and immediately noticed that the hot and cold puzzle actually shows me where to dig, this is quite helpful.
Still come across a large playerbase who take time of their day to drop items for new players or even try and give them some stuff to help them along their journey. I still decline all the trades since I'd like struggle through the early game and then complain about the difficulty at a later date. I have yet to buy any upgrades since I had a special event which gave me a cool hat and I didn't want to put any armour on. Only kills cows so far so didn't feel the necessity to put armour on yet.
Okay I have gathered plenty of cowhide, I spent most of the day gathering cowhide to eventually turn that into leather just to see how much it would sell for. I took it to the grand exchange and decided to sell 1 leather which then sold for around 1,000 coins. Was quite the jump from cowhide so I sold most of my leather but kept some just in case.
After 10 seconds I immediately sold the remaining leather which to my surprise then sold for over 2,000 coins each. Some players were talking about membership and the opportunity to get a bond looked quite interesting and honestly seemed like a realistic goal I can work towards. They were saying that membership unlocks a crazy amount of options you can do in the game and now I had something I wanted to do. With the idea of being able to gather a bond assuming leather would still sell around 1,000 - 2,000 coins each, didn't look like a bond was far out of reach being around 10 million coins I believe. That's a lot.

Day 6: The goal

With the mindset to get a bond, I decided to collect more cowhide but didn't focus too much on killing the cows but instead just picking up cowhide that no one else wanted to pick up. I'd kill cows if none were dropped on the floor but also noticed something interested and invented a little game to make it more interesting too. Now I apologise in advance if this is incorrect or if my methods of trolling might have actually impacted an actual player but part of me wanted to believe that there was a bot to pick up cowhide. No matter what, he would always pick up the closest one so I'd run to the cowhide he was going for then pick it up just before he gets close.
Now I wouldn't do this normally but I wanted to prove if he was a bot or not, I don't know but collecting cowhide wasn't exactly a fun process so I wanted to make a little minigame out of it. After about 10-15 minutes, I was sure this was a bot. It would always take the closest or the first cowhide that spawns, regardless of how far away it might be. So I used that to my advantage and prevented it from collecting cowhide or to simply drag it away so other players or myself can collect more cowhide to prevent cheats from gaining so much by doing so little.
I later found out about the report system and found that there's an option to report a bot so I thought I'd decide to do so after half way through the day when I was fairly certain it was a bot, with it always moving after a set time frame and the movement to the cowhide was a little odd.
I met yet another guy who wanted to give me some items, he would follow me around confused as to why I wouldn't accept any items since everyone else would jump on that immediately. He would keep pushing to give me items over and over so I thought I would come up with an alternative, I'd ask for information instead. There was a player going around telling everyone to equip a club and I thought it would be funny to aquire a club and surprise him. To my surprise, I'd have to kill something called a hill giant boss which from memory, I'd have to kill a moss giant to earn a key, to then gain access to kill hill giants for a chance to fight a boss?
I'm not quite sure but feel free to correct any mistakes I've made because I'm sure there are many haha. He was a really nice guy, really appreciate that he took the time out of his day to show me where to go if I ever wanted to unlock the weapon for the future but I don't think I'm ready for a boss fight at my level. He decided to give me a key to show me where I could potentially unlock the boss by fighting some hill giants. I didn't want to take the key for free but with how persistant he was, I decided to pay for it instead. I was aware that money was probably not an issue for him but paid him a small amount of coins for it based on what the value said in the chat window. He took me to draynor and showed me a book called a chronicle which ... Oh my god saves so much time going back and forth to the grand exchange. A nice little shortcut honestly!
He showed me the door to kill Hill Giants, he didn't have a spare kill so we parted ways and I decided to jump right on in. Managed to kill a single hill giant before realising that I am not ready for this but I've jotted this down for the future.
On to the final day.

Day 7: Final stretch

Ah the final day, oh what shall we do..
Yeah I'm killing cows, I don't know what to tell you. With the goal to get a bond, I felt like I was quite close to unlock membership so I decided to have a nice chat with people in the area and see what everyone's goal was on runescape or what got them into the game. It was then when someone walked up to me, surprised I wasn't a bot and asked if I was a pure. I'm still not sure to this day what that means but he was really interested in fighting other players so I'm just going to assume that's a term for that specifically. We had such a good chat and decided to go our seperate ways for a little while and at the same time I decided to bank my inventory.
OH I GOT A PET CROW! Moments later I then realised a crow landed on the loot as I killed a cow, I don't know if a pet crow exists but I feel like I need to work towards one for this very reason now..
Then the funniest moment I think I'd ever have in this game for a long time happened. We decided to part ways at the same time, wishing eachother well but we both were heading in the same direction. Both of us just couldn't stop laughing, I have no idea where he was going but we were losing it! After a little breakdown and another awkward goodbye, I continued on with the grind to get more cowhide and leather.
I met another guy in the cow pen who was unfortunately struggling and said that he spilled some beer on his keyboard. That does kinda suck and he was having some difficulty typing assuming some of the liquid got inside and would keep spamming certain keys in chat. Don't know how exactly that happens but I decided I'd treat him. He's quite similar to my level and his gear is what I used to own before I spoke to Adventure Jon so I wanted to give him some kind of upgrade to his gear but he couldn't type anymore, instead I came up with an idea of just following me if your stats are higher or lower than said value. After some trial and error, I took a trip to the grand exchange and picked up some armour and .. I might have also found out that it also sells beer so I couldn't pass on an opportunity.
Got back, traded him the equipment and the beer. After 30 seconds or so, he eventually trades assuming he totally loves the banter and is not upset what so ever. I did feel bad so I did say sorry, assumed he was grateful and continued on. He then eventually found out he could use the on screen keyboard to type to me to express his thanks, just hope it sorts itself out and he doesn't need a keyboard but only time will tell!
So it's coming towards the end of the day, I thought I would tan all the cowhide I got and make my way back to the grand exchange and see how much money I can make. I was quite looking forward to honestly ending the day with reaching my goal so quickly but we'll see how we do. I can't quite remember the exact amount and should have probably shared some screen shots but regardless I decided to sell them all which I roughly sold around 6,000 for a little under 2m. I was surprised that they sold for such a lower price than last time. I think I was on target assuming that they would sell anywhere between 1,000 to 2,000 coins each. Guess prices do change rapidly and I was a little late to take opportunity of this but it is what it is.
Regardless, I am happy with the amount that I made so I decided to do a clue scroll, I am on my 9th one now and had a few steps but were smooth sailing. Then out of nowhere I got frog slippers, to this day I'm still unsure how I feel about this so for the time being I'm just going to keep them in the bank, it doesn't look good on my character with the gear that I'm using currently so I think it'll remain in there for a while. Shortly after I got another clue scroll, assuming It would be a big drop, the big double digit 10 total beginner clue scrolls. Living the dream... I got 8 coins evaluated and it was leather chaps I believe. We still take it! I could have done many more clue scrolls if I decided to do them straight away but I was more focused on getting myself some money.

Disclaimer:

I wanted to include a showing of the community by including how kind hearted they truly were. This is by no means bragging, I don't want people getting the impression that they should beg or create new accounts just for some money. It's more enjoyable to go through the game with the resources you can get yourself and you're not going to get far in the game if you only rely on begging to get through the game.
With that said if it becomes heated for whatever reason, I'll remove this message and we'll move on.
So throughout my journey on runescape, I've had many people try to drop me items or give me stuff, I chose not to accept any help with trades but I guess I truly did look clueless while playing the game Either way, below is a note of all the trades people have showed me. This is not including trades I just refused. Some of the trades could have been baitsor traps but if anyone sees something that's usually too good to be true, that's because it usually is. If anyone offers you money or items in game but you have to do something fishy like doing something specific or following them, be mindful and don't fall for these traps.
Either way, boring bit over. Here's what trade offers were shown to me:
I decided not to take any of these since I only just started the game and it would be unfair to just skip the early game content. I do have some money earned from tanning hides but tried not to use it until I feel like I need it.

Summary:

Okaaay boring part over so let's do a somewhat quick summary where I showcase my thoughts and summarise everything in the game as briefly as I can.
Runescape is fun, I honestly enjoy it and I think I will continue to do so. I was a little overwhelmed with everything on screen but after some help from the community and playing around with the settings, it made things a lot more enjoyable. With the variety this game offers and the potential to unlock membership through bonds, it's a good goal to work towards. I've had a good laugh and not all moments were mentioned in this post since it's already long enough as is.
I am currently on day 9 working on unlocking the ability to use rune equipment. I've done some more clue scrolls and currently have one in my inventory while making this post. This will be the 20th clue scroll, hopefully something nice, maybe some more leather chaps! I've given some new players some money to help buy themselves some food and equipment. Some are more grateful than others, while some continued to beg for more after I only just gave them some money.
Either way, thanks for taking the time to read this, I apologise for this being so long but I'm going to spend the second week not using the internet or relying on anyone and hoping I can unlock membership in that time. If I do eventually get the opportunity to buy a bond, I will still go into the game blind hoping to figure out what runescape has to offer for me and just absolutely winging it. If anyone has any recommendations on where one could first go when one unlocks membership, that would be a great.
Lastly just want to say a special thank you to the community, everyone has been so helpful guiding me and showing me the ropes. A few rude ones but that's an online community for you.
I wanted to do a giveaway. Getting the bond will take me a little longer and I'm aware it's not much compared to other people but I wanted to give away 1 million coins. I've not done a giveaway before but it's mainly my thanks to the community. I'll be giving it away to 1 random person in the comments. Any comment I find really funny or helpful will get the 1m. Any others, I might see if I can give away 100k up to a maximum of 3 players. We'll see how this turns out but I don't want to make any guarentees on that.
Any misinformation, feel free to correct me since many things might be wrong within this post.
Thanks again everyone, take care and happy runescaping!
Edit: Just a quick edit, don't forget to include your name on runescape for a chance to win 1m, good luck to you all!

2024.03.31 07:17 r0lyat Should I return to Runescape 3?

I have a maxed ironman that got hacked 1.5 years ago and lost a LOT of resources and high level gear, but there is enough to rebuild from not complete scratch.
I had left because:

Has there been anything that would have changed these? Or any advice on how to change my approach to enjoy it better?
Also I'd love to hear any recommendations of new things that are cool, fun or QOL related?
