  • Disclaimer About Rates: Completing someone else's exam, essay, or homework assignment is obviously NOT something you can just freely ask anyone to do, especially on the internet. Therefore, such help should be well-compensated. Services that are reliable and deliver high-quality results are difficult to find and are very high in demand. THE OBLIGATORY "IS THIS A SCAM?" QUESTION:
Considering the fact that you found my contact information online, it’s understandable to be skeptical regarding the legitimacy of my services. Therefore, I’m willing to do all of the following to help you feel more secure in trusting me with your academic needs:
  • Engage in a Telephone interview: Speak with you on the phone and answer any questions you may have so that you have the opportunity to assess and analyze my tone, articulation, and accent. I’m a New Jersey-born Irish/Italian-American, but I have been told that I speak in an erudite & articulate suburban American accent with a “professor style” voice somewhat resembling the voice of actor: Ben Stein.
  • Provide Telephone References: Provide you with the contact information of students who have utilized my services in the past who would be more than willing to vouch for my skills.
MY REBUTTAL TO THE OBLIGATORY “IS THIS A SCAM?” QUESTION:
At the risk of sounding arrogant, I consider myself to be at least marginally more intelligent (both academically & socially) than the average person. Therefore, if I ever decided to suddenly risk prison time, risk my reputation, and risk enduring the wrath of modern-day “cancel culture” by scamming people out of their money:
  • Not Worth the Money: I certainly wouldn’t do it for such paltry amounts of money. (i.e., anything less than $1,000 per victim.)
  • Most Students are Broke: I certainly wouldn’t choose high school & college students as my “target audience” to scam, considering that most people without college degrees have abysmally low annual incomes.
  • Waste of Time & Energy: Communicating back and forth with potential clients is an absurdly long time sink since only less than 10% of all potential clients who reach out to me actually become paying clients of mine.
  • All My Payment Apps are Still Active: If you pay me to provide academic services and I don’t deliver, you can always dispute the payment with the payment app and easily get your money refunded. If I were in the habit of swindling money from people, then all of my payment accounts would have been investigated and be completely shut down by now.
CONCLUSION:
  • My Mission: Thank you for taking the time to read my Reddit post. I take what I do very seriously and I always strive to get the highest possible grades for all students who entrust me with their coursework.
  • Closing Words: Please feel free to reach out to me if you're sincerely interested in having help you with your school work. I am available via text, email, and call almost 24/7/365.

2024.05.29 01:45 dmreif How was Fisk going to rebuild his criminal enterprise if he successfully fled the country?

So across his two episodes of season 2, we see Fisk start to rebuild his empire from the ground up. First, he uses his rainy day fund to buy the loyalty of Stewart Finney and the Valdez brothers. Then he gradually converts the loyalty of the rest of the inmates and guards over to his side until he's able to take over the prison by arranging for Frank Castle to take out Dutton. Between this and other outside sources of revenue that Fisk has managed to hide from the feds, he's able to raise enough money to buy the Presidential Hotel. And while all this is going on, he's running his machinations to drive Ray Nadeem into debt so he can manipulate the FBI agent into letting him out of prison (machinations I'm firmly convinced Fisk was working on before he was arrested).
But here's the catch: the reason Fisk is even in this position is because Matt stopped him from escaping the country with Vanessa. When Matt caught up to Fisk, he was en route to a helipad where he was going to rendezvous with Vanessa, and they were going to fly off to a waiting plane to get them out of the US. Which makes me wonder, had Fisk successfully escaped, how was he planning to rebuild his empire? It's unrealistic to believe he didn't have a plan for how to do this from overseas, because we see with almost every other scheme that Fisk pulls that he has contingencies baked into them (using Hoffman to poison Blake when the shooting fails to kill Blake; having Rance hiding in Karen's apartment to ambush her after Farnum's attempt to kill her in jail fails; etc.). And his return to New York City would be inevitable because as Matt said to him in prison in 2x10, "this is New York, Wilson. You live here. This is your jungle. This is your blood, like it is mine."

2024.05.29 00:12 BannerTortoise Chaotic Episode 11 Review

Chaotic Episode 11 Review
Welcome back to another Chaotic episode review. Episode 11 follows after the Castle Bodhran two-parter. While the story doesn't follow the plot points established by the episodes, it does act as a mirror of story, putting one of the main cast in the position of helping a creature in Perim.
.
Episode: In episode 11, Lord of Treachery, Kaz is asked for help by Chaor, the ruler of the Underworld tribe to help him prepare for a sit down with Lord Van Bloot, another Underworld who wishes to rule it for himself.
.
Recap:
The episode opens like the others in Perim. Kaz is in the Underworld with H'earring. We haven't seen him since his introduction, but the plot to the two-parter started with them collecting scales for him to trade.
https://preview.redd.it/karg4tppp83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=cf421e228ebb028bfa60bdf36ba2c648089f36e1
H'earring had a surprise for Kaz, but won't tell him what. He's not doing it for scales, since Kaz doesn't have any on him. After going through some secret corridors in the heart of the Underworld City Kaz is brought to the throne room to meet Chaor. The surprise release leads into the opening.
https://preview.redd.it/mkikxy3rp83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=1df68deca59964ac2df105e3093f28bf3957c866
This is the first time seeing Chaor since the Kaz and Klay fight, but the last time we saw him in Perim was episode 3 with his introduction. Since the last episode had Maxxor, it makes sense to follow up by showing his rival. He's there with Takinom, his right hand, and Agitos, making their first appearance in the show as Chaor's advisor.
Returning from the opening, Agitos does most of the speaking, telling Kaz that they know about the players of character, and that H'earring is friends with Kaz. They know Kaz is a fan of Chaor so they've decided to enlist him into helping them with their plan.
Takinom tells Kaz that they want him to go to Gothos Tower to spy on Lord Van Bloot. Van Bloot is the second in command to the Underworld. He's building a rebellion to overthrow Chaor and take command of the Underworld for himself.
https://preview.redd.it/zh90rn1up83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=4aaffcc528c0ef96bf06868ea78179a90cfc5f73
Van Bloot has invited Chaor to Gothos Tower for a sit down to negotiate, and they want Kaz to spy on him and uncover any of his plans or to see if it's a trap. Chaor would prefer to just fight Van Bloot, but Agitos knows that would be a bad idea for the Underworld, plunging it into a war.
Takinom has another plan. She knows that the players become the creatures in the game. Kaz confirms this by referencing his battle with Klay when he crashed the Vile Driver. While Kaz is going through the story, Takinom suggests something to Chaor, and that's when they get a new plan. Kaz is going to Gothos Tower to battle Van Bloot. While all of this is happening, Lord Van Bloot is watching from his own crystal TV with his own lackies, Krekk and Skithia.
https://preview.redd.it/6pwbnalvp83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e1a08e587af28b87633baef26826f18544bd521f
Cutting to Chaotic, Peyton returns with a new card. Possibly from a booster. He finds Tom, Kaz and Sarah at one of the tables looking over recent battles to find a player that has used Lord Van Bloot recently. Peyton asks what they're doing, and Kaz explains how he's looking for a player to battle him as Van Bloot at the Gothos Tower.
https://preview.redd.it/463kaor1q83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e644e8c2d2da0b85cc7e69db947d1e5ec36019e9
Peyton says that's a tall order since while Gothos Tower is easy to get being just rare, but the Van Bloot card is ultra rare, and that the scans of him of even more rare than that. This is a cool detail since the original Lord Van Bloot card in the actually card game is ultra rare.
Luckily for Kaz, there's a random player named Matt sitting alone at a table saying Van Bloot is his favourite creature, and that he owns plenty of Gothos Tower scans. Kaz challenges to a match right there and they go to the dromes. While they are building their decks, Tom says that his record shows that his battle record is amazing. Makes you wonder why they never saw his record when searching the recent matches.
https://preview.redd.it/3194rtg3q83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=26e9ab5c3697a82bd34a0ed207e6b4900cc0fe8f
While Peyton is once again over the plan, Tom and Sarah think something is weird about this scenario but the match is about to start. They lock their decks and shows their full teams. It's a 3v3 match with both players using Underworlders. Kaz is using Chaor, Takinom and Agitos, while Matt is using Van Bloot Krekk and Skithia. It's another cool detail that they are using their respective leaders as well as their right hand creatures for the match.
https://preview.redd.it/2r6nsy05q83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=eecea65cdd4a411d28ffafe70651a7e72bb8a523
The match starts with Van Bloot versus Chaor. It starts slow with Kaz as Chaor entering Gothos Tower and look around, letting us explore the location before finding Matt as Van Bloot in the dinner hall. They throw some attacks and one-liners at each other before showing off the unique ability of the location, allowing Van Bloot to turn invisible.
Kaz planned for this, clearly knowing this ability and had equipped Chaor with a Spectral Viewer, the same battlegear Maxxor and Frafdo used in the last episode, so this is the first time seeing it in the battledrome. Tom is confused about this, since Kaz also has an Aqua Shield equipped to Chaor, but Sarah explains with Spectral Viewer you can dual wield battlegear, something only exclusive to the show. Like with the Tartarek ability, Tom doesn't know about the show only rules.
https://preview.redd.it/p3tiakwsq83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ed50ec482e3ffd549e4aa60e04d1b81f0a79940
There's a back and forth in the battle. Both players use mugic, with Matt using all three to destroy the Spectral Viewer, and weaken Chaor. Kaz pulls out another mugic to negate the location, meaning he can see Van Bloot again, before hitting him with an attack that codes Van Bloot.
After the battle, Kaz forfeits the match, and leaves for Perim. Sarah tries to warn him the battle was too easy, but Kaz ignores her and goes anyway. He returns to the throne room to find that Chaor had already went to Gothos Tower to deal with him his own way. Kaz tells them he needs to help, and gets the gear from the match.
We cut to the real Gothos Tower to see the meeting with Van Bloot offering to split the Underworld in two and both take a half. Chaor eats some chicken and refuses it, saying the Underworld needs just one ruler. Van Bloot agrees and attacks him.
https://preview.redd.it/n6vubhl5r83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=645bb0a84f9a58b24f468f391a4cc6dc774d4694
The two battle in almost the same way as Kaz and Matt did, however Chaor is more ruthless and reckless with his attacks, just throwing fire around like he's dropping his next album. Kaz arrives with Takinom and a bag full of his gear.
After some comedy, Chaor accepts the help, and uses the Spectral Viewer to fight back against the invisible Van Bloot. Using the knowleadge from the match, Kaz gives Chaor the mugic to counter Van Bloots. However, the battle plays out differently with Chaor being lead into a trap, and Van Bloot pulls out another mugic destroying the Spectral Viewer.
https://preview.redd.it/12cr2ei9r83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=9a9186d409e390a8bf341710179b06b5f3c231ae
Kaz tries to use the other mugic, but Van Bloot had a counter for that too. Van Bloot is about to blast Kaz, but Chaor takes the hit instead. Turns out, Matt was working for Van Bloot in the same way Kaz was for Chaor. It also looks like Takinom is working for them too, as she is seen in the throne room with Matt and Van Bloot's henchmen.
https://preview.redd.it/q0ahhjocr83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=3c5f2f62fe74c757f7a8eba27537abe7c68d2b0d
When it looks like Van Bloot is going to destroy Chaor and Kaz, Chaor pulls out song of Fury from Kaz's bag, something he didn't know he had. With it, Chaor turns the tables on Van Bloot, and defeats him. Takinom enters the room with the others as her prisoners. Takinom never betrayed Chaor, and only made it look like she did to trick Van Bloot.
https://preview.redd.it/y05ijza2r83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9c3c104ed676b2cb0ca5ff3b0172d974f553d9c
Chaor lets Van Bloot live, disbanding the rebellion and securing his rule over the Underworld. Kaz praises Chaor for the victory, only for Chaor to tell Kaz he owes him his life. Kaz teleports back to Chaotic, and Chaor smiles to himself.
The episode ends with the four of them back in Chaotic with Kaz explaining what happened. Peyton finally gets the chance to show them his new scan, a Riverland Star, a battlegear card that's super rare. Kaz also reveals a new scan of his own, one of Lord Van Bloot.
https://preview.redd.it/s4todfn0r83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=196c2e4a091f148975fc4a9971e35cb5dac9fa01
.
Characters:
Kaz helping Chaor is the main focus of the episode, so it makes sense he'd get the most to do in the episode. Kaz helping players and creatures is a running character motif to Kaz. It's part of the irony of his character being an Underworld fan, and saying stuff like "Survival of the fitness" during matches, yet he acts like an Overworlder, helping creatures and players in need because it's the right thing to do. This episode showed us that Underworlders are capable of loyalty, so there's that.
I don't know why he thought this idea of the match would work when a player would most likely pick and choose different mugic and battlegear than the actually creature would. This episode was good at showing the difference between a drome match and a battle in Perim.
Tom, Sarah and Peyton were barely in the episode. They at least do something in the episode to contribute to the plot. Tom and Sarah work together to help Kaz find someone to battle with for Chaor's plan, while Peyton gives insight on the difficult of finding someone with Van Bloot in their deck.
Matt is the one-off player character of the episode. They are just the human Van Bloot picked to sabotage Chaor's plan. At first he comes off as a good guy, but it was just as act as part of the Van Bloot plan. He puts up a good battle against Kaz, giving him enough of a challenge to help Kaz work on a strategy to help Chaor, while also coming up with a counter to it for Van Bloot.
.
Creatures:
After the episode with Maxxor, seeing Chaor in the follow up was a given. We got to see more of his personality. He has the personality of a conqueror. He's impulsive, quick to anger, and often reckless, but he's not an idiot, actually listening to his trusted allies, and even refers to Takinom as a friend. It adds more characterisation. Last episode we saw that Maxxor can be mistrustful, and lead by anger, and here we see Chaor show trust to a human, as well as loyalty to his tribe. Him smiling after Kaz left gives the impression his threat was more to act tough in front of Van Bloot since in later appearances, he is seen to have respect for Kaz in the same way Maxxor does for Tom.

Van Bloot is the Starscream of Chaotic. They are the second in command of a faction, and wants to lead it outright, taking any chance they get to seize control from Chaor. He has an interesting design, looking like a demon or fallen angel. His design gets an upgrade during season 2, but for now it's alright, except for how his fangs look like a moustache.
https://preview.redd.it/ys760ohlp83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ef014b4257b7dd9ced7c0a8f505212f13e143b5
We got to see Takinom as an actually character this episode, instead as just another creature in the battle dromes. She doesn't take part in the action for the episode, but we do see her taking part in the story, having been the one to suggest the plan to Chaor, as well as help Kaz get to Chaor to defeat Van Bloot. We also got to see that despite being an Underworlder, she is loyal to Chaor as their leader.
https://preview.redd.it/dpjjwurjp83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e33f60da46ca9dea1d4be25e4883b92785e5540e
Agitos is Chaor's advisor, and public speaker. He's one of the wisest in the tribe, and this episode did a good job at portraying this by having him speak on behalf of Chaor to Kaz, as well as be the one to talk Chaor down from just attacking Van Bloot, thinking about the best interests of the tribe, while supporting his leader.
https://preview.redd.it/07p06hehp83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=07319f56a14315f09cd55cb00c0ca650925f4b5e
Krekk and Skithia don't do much in this episode. Skithia assists Van Bloot against Chaor with the mugic. They barely have any lines, and don't portray any personality outside of 'evil henchmen'. Turns out, you can't be a ruler of the Underworld unless you have two henchmen, a demon, and a woman.
https://preview.redd.it/dk9jp66fp83d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=080439f499995b896438be49a5839d2302a037d8
H'earring only has a brief appearance in the start of the episode. He's there to lead Kaz to Chaor, has a two or three lines during the meeting, and is never seen for the rest of the episode. He makes more appearances during the show, but here he's just used to advance the plot, and then disappears for the episode.
.
Final Thoughts:
This was an interesting episode. We got some world building with Lord Van Bloot, and how the Underworld is run with there being a second in command of the tribe. We also got to see more creatures working alongside the leaders. This was a good episode for Kaz since it gave him a time to shine with his favourite creature after Tom had the last episode with Maxxor. The rest of the characters were put on the backseat for it, but at least Tom and Sarah helped.
The next review will be focusing on the rivalry of Peyton and Krystella, as well as getting a lore drop for one of the Overworld's best heroes in episode 12, Battledrome of the Sexes.
.
Quote of the episode: "Remember Van Bloot, you serve only as long as I let you. Don't ever dare cross me again." - Chaor

2024.05.28 23:42 Difficult-Dealer8526 11-year old is hyper sexual

Sorry this is long and disjointed. My 11-year old daughter dry-humped her younger sister, aged 5, when she (11-year old) was wearing only a t-shirt. She tried to have sex with an autistic classmate. She has written love letters to her music teacher and tried to search for porn on YouTube. She exposes herself to neighbor’s kids. She has received sex education at home and at school and I have answered all her questions in an age-appropriate manner. Anyone else experienced similar with their kid? I am currently looking at sending her to a school for special needs kids in part because of these behaviors. She does very badly at school (she is medicated: concerts upset her stomach, so now Strattera and clonidine, with no visible effect) and I pay for a shadow teacher to sit with her in class. She does not have an intellectual disability, but she has dyscalculia. Is unable to concentrate and the usual executive function issues. But she is devious and cunning. She is also a lovable kid but sexual incidents and theft are now weekly events. None of the other kids at school want to be her friend because she lies and steals and has meltdowns. And now she has started to experiment with her sister. I am afraid. She sees a therapist and a developmental pediatrician; has seen a psychiatrist before. She is on her third therapist. The first two gave up. I need help. Someone tell me that she can grow up not to die in prison or something.
Edit: typos, plus she wets the bed. Then two weeks ago she started peeing on the floor in her room because she couldn’t be bothered to walk to her en-suite bathroom. It is 3 meters away. She does not flush the toilet, of course.

Thus, I expect to be compensated fairly for all the value, stress relief, and saved time & energy my services provide. However, I may be willing to negotiate rates if necessary.
  • Payment Methods: I accept PayPal (required for all Canadian students), Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, and anonymous credit & debit card payments via online invoice.

Gentry’s sweet cravings were getting out of hand.
The last time she had a proper dessert was almost a week ago, and if she had something to say about it, no amount of saccharine text exchanges with pretty boys was going to replace a good old sugar rush. A couple of days ago Sereen treated her to the sweetest snack she could get with her status and that piece of dried fruit was nowhere near enough to satisfy G’s sweet tooth.
So many vending machines and eateries, but not a single good bakery? Hell, even a crappy one would do at this point! She had to hunt down some glucose tonight.
After Sereen’s initial tour around the city, she went off leaving G to explore the city on her own. It was getting easier and easier. With the auglasses on, finding her way around proved pretty intuitive, not in the least thanks to the distinct chessboard-like layout of Ashtapada. Each district had a letter-number label. By remembering one’s “square code”, one could find their way back on foot or by cab in no time wherever they found themselves.
Gentry spent hours exploring the wide walking streets and little nooks that offered yet another glimpse into Ashtapadan reality. She once stumbled upon a bookshop with nothing on the shelves but blank-page tomes. The shopkeeper asked her what she was looking for and after finding out the she was a Newcomer, explained that it was a book-on-demand type of place. She would place an order for a story and he would write it for her in a matter of days.
What confused her most was the snow-white buildings of the city. Despite being made with rough porous concrete, they were drowning in lush greenery that sometimes looked like it nearly chocked the structure. Each had the same distinct feature, though, that made them all look unfinished: however tall or short was the building, the top floor always looked under construction. Though there always were the omnipresent hounds on each of the working site, there were never any cranes or scaffolding visible. The obliging auglasses offered G the answer: everything from the smallest houses to the few high rises was essentially self-producing! From what little she understood reading about this advancement, the carbon in the atmosphere was captured by special aerial filters and dissolved in some water. It later went through the pipes in the buildings’ skeleton-like armature and got sprayed on. As the water evaporated, the carbon solidified into neat coral-like blocks that formed the walls and other structures.
Well, that explained why the fumes she saw on the outskirts smoked backwards!
It was getting dark and the orderly streets came alive once G engaged her glasses that revealed the digital underside of Ashtapada again. Every business had a modest sign in the physical world that didn’t stand out on the angular facades. But there also was a hidden bright animated augmented-reality one that could compete with Broadway neon in brightness.
Signs like these weren’t just decorating the facades: the 3D ones flashing on the ground filled almost the whole field of view, too. They looked amazingly enticing in the evening dusk. Information stalls with digital assistants, huge arrows pointing at meeting points, temporary signs inviting strangers to join a club gathering — Gentry was going to gawk at every single one tonight. She came up to some of them, waving hands in the air to try and touch the flickering lights, not caring what she looked like from the outside. Ashtapadans seemed a very relaxed bunch, not putting their noses in others’ business, which felt liberating. Noting how other people in the streets interacted with 3D service bots, G came up to one of them, too.
“Hello, Gentry, how can I help you tonight?” it chirped. The hologram looked like a cute animated girl with an elaborate pink hairdo. “You can ask me a question directly or say “What can you do” to access the list of commands.”
“Hi!” G said. “Do you have a name?”
“You can call me Yukio,” it responded with a little curtsy. “I can answer any questions, show you around or chat about anything!”
Any question? It must know where the desserts were sold! On second thought, wasn’t there something more important than that? Something that brought G here in the first place.
“I’m looking for a person named Exxy Mah,” she said to the patiently smiling girl. “Is there a citizen or a newcomer with this name?”
“There is!” Yukio answered, gleefully jumping in the air. “Exxy Mah is a famous Ashtapadan, she is an advocate for healthy living. You might have seen her on posters and screens around the city.”
The woman in the picture the assistant conjured up floating in thin air showed an elderly woman. She was looking very fit for her age but it clearly wasn’t the Exxy Gentry knew.
“Hmm... That’s not her...” G said. “There has to be another.”
The girl suddenly looked on the verge of tears. “I’m sorry! It’s the only one in Ashtapada! No other Citizens or Newcomers are registered by this name!”
Did her friend change her name then?
“A friend of mine should’ve arrived here last year under the same name. Can you check where she is now?”
Yukio’s helpful attitude fell apart in an instant. Her posture became stiff like a 3D model she was and a voice void of any emotion informed, “Personal data on people of Ashtapada, including their whereabouts is protected by the privacy laws of the city. Please rephrase your search.”
A blink later, the same cute Yukio was standing in front of G again.
“Can I help with anything else?” she smiled.
Was there a way to ask this dummy in a way that would give her at least a hint about her friend?
“Ok, Yukio,” G attempted. “When did the famous Exxy Mah you mentioned arrive at Ashtapada?”
The girl flickered into a wooden statue again, “Personal data on people...”
“Ok, ok, I got it,” G waved. “Bring back the friendly assistant, you creep me out.”
“Can I help with anything else?” the model went again.
G sighed.
“Is there a place a newcomer can get something sweet, a chocolate or a cake perhaps?”
Yukio gasped indignantly, “Ashtapada has a very strict policy on stimulants! You can’t legally buy any tobacco, alcohol, products with added sugar and other such substances!”
“Such substances!” G hollered, forgetting for a second that she was talking to a lifeless simulation. “Sugar is completely harmless! It’s good for your brains you know! Can I at least ask a Сitizen to get me a snack?”
The girl crossed her arms in defiance.
“You can’t buy any dessert in Ashtapada, whatever your status, the law is for everyone. No refined sugar!”
G thought for a moment, rewinding their conversation in her memory.
“Did you say I can’t buy sugar legally?”— Gentry perked up — “Is there a black market of sweets I can go to?”
“A black market of sweets!”
Yukio stared. It was clearly the first time she had had to deal with this particular word combination. It took her a second or two to process the request.
“There’s no black market of sweets in Ashtapada,” she stated, confidently, at last.
“Ok, pinkhead,” G said, rolling her eyes. “I guess it took all candy floss in Ashtapada to make that hair.”
Annoyed at the assistant, she stomped through the bright neon figure in front of her and into the pedestrian street now full of people.
If there was a place with some glucose in this stuck-up place, she was going to sniff it out.
***
The hunt wasn’t of much success. After watching a street performance by a group of dancers, listening to an impromptu debate and taking part in a couple of opinion polls, Gentry finally felt that it had been a little too much. Even with the auglasses disengaged, he noise, the people and the boisterous crowds in the streets seemed to pour light and sound directly into her brain in an endless stream. It gave her a headache.
Calling up a map from her wristcomm with an already practised motion, she marked a place nearby that looked much quieter and had a swarm of vending machines, too.
Screw the sugar, she just needed some water now.
The place was indeed quite secluded. The narrow street started on the edge of the bustling zone she just left but didn’t seem to cut into the living district. It wasn’t used by many people, but, to G’s surprise, it seemed to be used by hounds, scurrying back and forth with parcels, trash bags and other loads of lesser identifiability.
Perhaps this little alley was shared by humans and these tireless little helpers over the course of the day? The hounds would make use of it in the night but workers would walk it to leave the residential area when the sun was up? That would explain the line of vending machines along both sides, with their tempting lights that invited to at least take a look.
Sadly, their insides weren’t as tempting as the signs promised.
G walked past the rows of healthy corn-based snacks, rows of dried fruit packets, lines of non-edible stuff like auglasses upgrades and finally ended up in front of a drinks machine. It immediately identified her by scanning the device on her wrist and merrily chimed a hello. G frowned. The few options that were available to a newcomer with an embarrassingly low status like hers immediately got illuminated, hiding more enticing bottles and cans in relative darkness.
No need to rub it in, you soulless beast!
But... there was a can that looked a little sweeter than others. Perhaps it was because of its sickly-pink colour, or a pattern vaguely reminding of chewing gum printed along its rims together with the fact that it was unavailable to pheasants like her, but something told Gentry that it probably was it. A sweet drink she was after.
Or, at least, sweetish.
Against better judgment, she tapped the touchglass to order it.
Nothing. The little screen insisted that she must choose what was available.
She scanned her comm again.
Nothing.
She engaged the little flashlight in her glasses and looked at the can more carefully.
Was it... a little askew?
It definitely was.
Its lower rim was half-hanging in the air, the release mechanism lazily holding it in place.
A good shove...
A good shove would probably drop the can down.
Wouldn’t it?
G looked around and immediately felt a pang of guilt.
She hadn’t done anything, officer!
Yet.
No people, just a couple of smaller hounds rhythmically clip-clopping along the dim alley.
Should she?
The can looked at her from behind the glass like a captive princess, waiting to be rescued from the agonizing imprisonment. Someone to grab its slender body, deflower it with a skilled motion and drain its sweet nectar in a couple of gulps.
Hang in there, my sweet prize, your saviour is coming!
Another hopefully inconspicuous glance around confirmed there were still no people in the alley.
Gentry stepped to the side and leaned on the machine, estimating its weight.
Not too bad.
She leaned in heavier, feet pushing into the ground, legs and back straining against the cool metal.
A little more, and...
One of the little hounds stopped and looked G over, like a dog that saw a little furry animal that could be torn apart.
What, little buddy? Just taking a break. Is it against the law to lean on vending machines?
Gentry urged the walking robot to move along with a little shove of her foot and immediately felt a little bad when it obediently left without making much fuss.
Why the guilt? It wasn’t like she kicked the little guy!
Still, Gentry felt emboldened by the little victory against the mindless machine.
Surely, the frigid castle that held her sugary princess shouldn’t be of much trouble either.
With a renewed wind in her sails, she stepped back a couple of meters and slammed her whole body into the automate that answered with a promising clanking. Another good push and the visual assessment confirmed that the pink princess was nearly saved. Gentry smashed into the box one last time and the can that she longed for finally jangled down and into the pick-up box.
Gentry’s exhilaration lasted only for a second, however. Before she could retrieve the can she lusted after, something much bigger than a modest dog-sized carrier hound filled her field of vision. A larger four-legged robot that also had something fastened on its back and belly. It stood motionless, its front camera glinting in the uneven light like a bird of prey’s, watching G as she stood up after the impact, unsure what to do.
Was it a police hound or something? Unlikely. There were no marks on it that would identify it as such. What was its problem then?
It’s alright, mate, be on your way now.
G slowly moved her hand towards the pick-up box and almost grabbed the cool can when the hound gently shoved her hand aside with its boxy head.
What’s your problem, pal?
Gentry considered if it was worth it being accused of theft so soon after arriving at Ashtapada. Was it really that bad though? She could always claim it just dropped there by itself.
She pushed the hound’s stump of a head back, covering its camera with her palm, reaching for the can again. This time, as if blinded by her hand, the hound didn’t do anything to stop it.
Ah, easy. These machines were too dumb.
Gentry stepped back, completely sure that the matter was settled, and popped the can open. Its sweet scent filled her nostrils with a seductive promise. But the hound had other plans. Once his camera was uncovered, it seemed to focus on the offending drink again and made to awkwardly sway its head to kick it out of G’s hands.
Excuse me? What about the Laws of Robotics, mate? Rings a bell?
It wasn’t hard to dodge the clumsy assault, but the sheer size of the robot made G uneasy. If it seriously wanted to harm her, it could just stomp on her foot and shatter the bones there like fragile glass.
Better get out of here then.
Finally making a sip of the promising nectar, Gentry moved back towards the light opening of the alley, flanking the beast at a respectful distance before scrunching her face in disgust.
Shit! The drink wasn’t sweet in the slightest! It was all a lie! Vile flavourings! She was cheated! Her lovely princess lured her with a siren’s song and stabbed her right in the heart!
Disillusioned, G gripped the can tighter as if in retaliation and picked up the pace.
The hound wasn’t having it though. Surprisingly agile on its metal hooves, it appeared in front of Gentry, blocking her way out. The robots usually looked more like docile cows or donkeys, especially when they were loaded with cargo, but this one, now... looked like a real hound. Its posture suddenly squat, the camera glinting once again, it definitely wasn’t going to let the transgressor go that easily.
Shit, shit! Had it seen her face? Had it scanned her comm? Was she going to prison now?
Panic rose in Gentry’s brain like a suffocating wave.
Run? Return the can back? It wasn’t even good enough to be worth the trouble!
Tentatively, without turning her back on the beast, G made a couple of steps back to escape in the other direction but the robot matched her stride, his dark presence looming in the narrow pathway.
Something like this had happened before. A similar quiet spot in her city. A similar evening that started off great but ended in a disaster. The same impending danger, the same feeling of helplessness, a similar... weapon in her hand?
Right. The brawler that attacked her and Pete at The Clockface was human and was taken down by some boiling hot water, and this hound also had eyes. Only one in fact. And if the can is sturdy enough...
Brace yourself now, my princess, it’s time for sacrifices.
With a well-aimed swing, Gentry launched the can into the thin glass of the hound’s camera eye, turning to run for her life at the same time. A crashing sound proved that she succeeded but there was no time to check what the robot would do next. As usual, the time seemed to stretch into a sickening slime and her legs didn’t feel real, but G knew that outside her reeling head everything was moving properly so she had no time to lose.
Run away, mix into the crowd, save your hide.
Feel worthless later.

2024.05.28 22:17 LeWump33 A strawhat appreciation post!

Hello all! Welcome and thank you ahead of time on this post for all contributions or rebuttles.
This will be covering various points of the story so the spoiler tag is there if you are not caught up to the most recent chapters of manga or anime, so beware!
This as the title suggests is focusing on all the strawhats and I will be focusing on what I believe to be their peak moments, and how it makes them a complete character in this series! This is NOT about peak power moments, but peak character building points.
Defining the peak moments as: when they as a character, figured out something internally or displayed it to cement how they think and feel to the rest of the crew/audience.
I will not be covering any members who are not permanent to the crew specifically, but they may be mentioned as supporting to another crew member.
Without further prologuing to the post lets dive in!
Luffy: While he has many moments of interest, as he is the main character, his peak to me is spread throughout a few scenes that are arcs apart.
The first moment I would like to focus on is Alabasta, one of the first times we see he is serious, has somewhat of a brain in that rubber skull, and a clear definition of the types of people he respects. The scene I am talking about is when Vivi and him have their spat in the desert and the crew does not understand why Luffy is being mean to her.
He supports others dreams, but only if they support their OWN dreams. He is not willing to carry anyone who will not fight for themselves in whatever way they can. This scene is very memorable for the feels, but to me it really shows just what goes on in the internal, but is not the peak.
The peak happens for him in Water 7, before Enies Lobby. The duel between him and Usopp. This is where his ideals and maturity reach a true peak for his character. He see's what it means to be a captain before just a friend, and the weight of being the leader of his crew.
Without Usopp pushing him to that fight, and enacting on his feelings, the whole crew would be worse off.
We see Luffy and the crew take in what Zoro is saying about Usopp leaving, and his potential returning. Every single crew member was so sad to watch their friend go down a different path at the time, but they knew that unless he was the one to iniatiate the reconciliation, he could not come back. This hits Luffy the hardest as he now needs to cement what he is to them, which is the driving force foward, champion of their dreams, and ultimately the one who HAS to fight for them all, even if they fail.
This to me is his peak in the sense he IS the captain then. Until then the ship worked almost more democratically, not saying he doesn't not listen to them still, but his word is final at the end. And the crew will support him as much as he does them.
Zoro: Here is a man with a goal almost as lofty as Luffy's. To be the worlds strongest swordman. And to accomplish this he has a hard path driven by combat moreso than anyone else.
His start is the duel with Mihawk. At this point he thought he had some kind of a chance, even if it was just 1% to win this fight. And he is shown that he at this point is nothing but a baby compared to the current strongest. He there promises Luffy to never lose again, and has done damn well on that promise.
However his peak happens right before Sabody, with his legendary "Nothing happened". This to me is the peak of his character showing that: A. He will keep his promise to never lose, no matter the cost. B. He is not searching for praise, glory, sympathy, or empathy from anyone on his journey, even his closest friends/crew. C. His dedication to his crew for both sparing his captain death, but his comrades from worring over how they got out.
He has many impressive feats, but the level of resolve here is his peak to me.
Honorable mention: him swallowing his pride and asking Mihawk to help him be stronger. Took some guts, but this is his journey to strength, and not as big of a character building moment.
Nami: Here is someone who is very misunderstood by many fans who think she only cares about money, or would betray her crew for money.
Her start is quite possibly the earliest among characters, and pays off the latest that we have seen.
Her start being Aarlong park. The man who has traumatized her from a very young age, and her willingness to go against him for the friends that she would trust her fate with.
In this she was always slowly working toward her dream of making a complete sea chart, but could not focus on that due to her village. Once freed we still see an obsession with money, however if there was already someone who was fiscally responsible on the ship (like if Robin or Jimbe was already present), I feel like this may not have been a trait that stayed.
Instead she's basically had to shoulder the burden of making sure they don't die at sea due to starvation or otherwise by her lonesome. (Obvi Sanji does the food shopping, but that is shown by Nami giving them allowances more or less. We can just assume he gets a sperate duty-bound allowence alongside a personal one.)
Her peak to me then happens almost 1000 episodes later in Onigashima. She is part of the coweredly trio, and is not only willing to die for the ideals of her captain and friends, but very nearly does. All she had to do was lie, something she, at base, morally has no problem doing. But she will not even think about straying from the ideals of those she trusts. Showing her real resolve to not just the crew, but Luffy as the captain.
Sanji: The man who seems to never be true to himself at every part of the story. He specifically has a peak moment currently, but I think his true peak is yet to be seen as a character, and will come on a later ark involving Germa 66.
A starting point for him is hard for me, because of the characters we have on the crew, he is one of the most consistent, and has a dream that seems to be connected to the the end/close to the end of the series.
Thus he is in almost a permanent supporting role, until Whole Cake Island. (Not saying he didn't have important roles until then, just he is always solid in who he is until here.) Here we see something he views as an unstoppable force (Germa 66 AND Big Mom Pirates) gunning for him. And if he defies them then not only his crew will suffer, but his adoptive family at the Baratie.
His fight with Luffy is one of the first moments, that as a charcter, I can see him wavering internally, and rightfully so. He is dealing with trauma he all but forgot about, and is being pressured in every way possible, including his friends who are worried about him. It's amazing he doesn't give into grief as a character in this arc.
When he finally accepts the crews help, and is willing to escape is his starting point to me.
At Wano, we see huge strides past his backlash of his connections to Germa 66, and is even willing to use his raid suit. It's also at this point we see his body augmentation come out from his genes. And now I believe he is wavering internally again, even if he doesnt want to admit it to anyone, especially himself.
He is worried about losing the person he is, and the crewmember he is. He was asked to be a cook, not to fight, and is very on the fence of his new "powers". If he had not simply destroyed the raid suit, but gifted it to Franky, Usopp, and Chopper to research in their respective fields, this would be his peak to me.
But, he is not accepting every part of himself and his past in simply destroying it. Maybe he would have gone a different way if Queen had not assulted the lady and made Sanji think he was going insane. But until he accepts all parts of himself, similarly to his older sister Reiju, he cannot hit his peak.
He does not necessarily need to forgive his family, as they are despicable, but accept and make peace with them, and his genetic ties subsequently. Almost taking a page from Nami on her treatment of Hachi.
Usopp: Usopp is another one that I belive has not hit his true peak, but has been making clear strides. His starting point however, is absolutely the most pivitol of everyone aboard.
His duel with Luffy over the Going Merry in water 7.
As a crewmate and character, he had very little of note in almost every way past his intro in Syrup Village. I largely saw him as nothing more than comedic relief and was not a huge fan.
Then he hits this pivitol moment, where he found a line in the sand he was not willing to cross. He was willing to, admittedly begrudgingly, fight his closest friends and captain to take a stand on.
Was he feeling guilty for the money? Of couse! Had he just been humiliated by the theives? Yes! But he found something in this long journey he wasn't just willing to fight for, but even die for, giving us an inkling of his dream:
To be a brave warrior of the sea...
He know how powerful Luffy is, more than anyone. But HE initiated the fight between Luffy and him. HE chose the same day where he almost died and was in horrible shape to fight (at that point) one of the biggest powerhouses you could imagine.
Not only does he fight, he forces Luffy to really fight him. The gravity of that is astounding for one of, if not the most, cowerdly people we have seen in the whole series.
With a gameplan in mind he methodically gets Luffy to be more and more serious until he loses. But in losing he gained a HUGE step towards his dream. He forced the whole crew to acknowledge that they are not pretending to be pirates. They are not in playtime. This is real, and they have to not only be commited to their own dreams, but the dreams of everyone on the ship.
I firmly think his peak is coming in Elbaf, where he can wear his "Brave Warrior of the Sea" title with pride. And at that point his father will never be ready to see him, as his son will be more dedicated to maintaining dreams, than simply reaching for them.
Chopper: This is the character is tied for being the most directly impacted by the crew, alongside the next one, being Robin.
The starting point for Chopper is his intoduction arc in Drum Island. He begins to slowly trust people other than his two "parents" of Hiriluk and Kureha. He, similarly to Nami, has always been true to his dream to cure every illness. And simultaneously is also akin to Zoro, in that it is a long road with many steps to reach that point. But aside from his dream, being accepted by people has always been his most fatal flaw.
He begins to move past this point during Enies Lobby, the first time we see Monster Point. He willing decides he, with what he can offer is not enough, and needs to be a monster to help. But as said, this was only a step, not his peak.
His peak is also in Wano, when he is curing the Ice Oni Plague, and then fights Queen for for even thinking of concocting such a vile disease (on top of the other one in the prison.) He is PISSED, yet he also is beginning to understand on a personal note, he cannot always take the high road.
Being shown in his willingness to deal with side-effects of the rumble ball. This is a direct confrontation from Ceasar, another person he by nature hates. Yet he hears what the mad clown has to say and understands the value of that opinion.
This cumulative story alongside all his points being less human post-timeskip are his peak. He is no longer afraid of anything, aside from not helping his friends and all those who suffer in his sight with everything he has!
Robin: Her dream is knowledge that got her family and friends killed. And yet she values others over herself at every point.
Her start is (probably) obvious to all:
I WANT TO LIVE!
Some could argue this is her peak, but I do not. She from that point is very similar to Sanji in the sense that she is consistent throught the story, so much so she almost falls to the background in arcs compared to others with their more combat oriented roles.
Yet in every arc she is doing some groundqork to make sure she doesn't oy achieve her dream, but is gathering so much intel it'd make the other crew members jealous.
Her peak is also at Onigashima, in her fight with Black Moria. She is so understanding of her crew that she doesn't feel sad or betrayed by Sanji calling to her specifically. In fact she's the most equipped to understand it by just hearing his call alone.
She is someone who has left organization after organization, trusting nobody. And here is not just a crewmate, but dear friend calling for her because he needs her.
Does she get overzealous and charge in guns blazing? No. She calmy (maybe angrily for the sake of the enemy) makes her eay there to help him.
Does she feel betrayed? Not even slightly.
Does she think less of or belittle Sanji? Not even in your dreams.
During this fight she displays not only her conviction to her friends, but her acceptance of what transpired her whole life until them. She unlike Sanji is not tied to the bonds of her past and just comments that while this was nice, she cannot stay here (about the Mirages).
She is so grounded in what she wants and how to get there and this is the peak of her showing it. Sidenote: I can only hope her reunion with Saul is as heartwarming as she deserves, because damn does she deserve it!
Franky: (He is my favorite Strawhat for the record) The man who abandoned his dream, only to have it burst forth in the most SUPER way.
Here is an intro we never expected, the man who had been a minor antagonist of Water 7, to be added to the crew over other applicable people like Paulie.
Someone who thought of his dream as almost evil because it made his mentor have to die/leave for good (I know theres no grave lol). Who found the means to build his dreamship, but then the people he makes it for invite (or torturously force to accept) him onboard, subsequently making his full dream that much closer to reality.
Him joining the crew is his starting point and also his peak.
He has amazing feats and fights after that, but his genuine character has only gotten stronger from this point. He does not have any major character reflections like others do in the crew and he is quite unique for it.
He spent a vast majority of his past in regret and the only way to abte that sadness was through The Franky Family, who he cares deeply for. But now he is a mandroid unchained and will continue to build things to enforce his SUPER way of living.
Brook: His start is just before he joins the crew, in his fight against himself/Ryuma.
He had all but given up on living life in a meaningful way, and was almost accepting of true death before meeting the Strawhats. They give him the small push he needs to see it's not over and him fight this uphill mirror match that he, from the start, probably knew he could not win.
But right there was the conviction he lost when he lost his shadow. Even without gaining his shadow, he regained his conviction which is inspiring and amazing as a character.
His peak, is the one strawhat that I think we don't actually see as the audience, but it already happened.
During the timeskip, he is imprisoned for most of the time playing music and touring. He more than likely had adequate time and ample opportunities to escape. During this time he could have gone searching for the crew to help them, or even visit Laboon.
But that isn't the reunion he wants for Laboon and Him. He will not say goodbye to Laboon again, and will stay with him as long as he possibly can. He actively gets stronger through the devil fruit he thought was useless in his first life with the Rumbar Pirates. He finds his way to turn his curse to be beneficial in that: 1. He WILL see Laboon again 2. The thing he thought was a curse that robbed him of his swimming, WILL be useful to his friends 3. He made a promise to these friends, and kept it, even though in his long life, they had maybe known each other for a month max.
These three points alone feel like his peak as a character. He is so resolute to his word across YEARS to Laboon, while convicted not only to the promise of his new friends, but he NEED to be useful to them.
Jimbe: This is definitely the weirdest Strawhat to do this for, because his start and peak are before he is officially in the crew.
His start being his willingness to oppose the World Government in their decision to publicly execute Ace.
He is a Fishmen, and has seen the scorn his people have been through by humans. Yet, whether it was his devotion to Whitebeard or friendship with Ace, he is willing to be jailed for going against them, for not a fishman.
Up until and even after, his first and foremost thought is the bettering of his races position in the world. After helping at Marineford he pledges to Big Mom to help protect his peoples main living area, even if she has a greedy tax.
His peak is his formal leaving of the Big Mom Pirates, and to her face nonetheless. He showed his conviction towards leaving her, and the fact she would never be more than a Yonko. He had the promise made that Luffy would accept him, but again, this is before even meeting the crew and understanding their dynamic. Which speaks volumes of him and his character.
You made it. Thank you for reading assuming you're not here for a TL;DR.
I will not be making a TL version as this is an appreciation for the character that they were and have become for each other and us, as the viewer.
If you feel I picked the wrong moment for their starts or peaks, please reply and let me know! I tried to keep this unbias and looking at pure charcter building perspectives. Have a great day and watch all!

2024.05.28 22:17 Matt_Choww An Exploration of Sol Lands - Legacy Fundamentals

Hi All,
It’s been a little while, I’ve been thinking a lot about the fundamentals of Legacy and the core format pillars.
I decided to start with Sol Lands as they have become much more potent over the course of the past few years and are often a starting point for newer Legacy players.
This is of course also available in video form here, personally I think it’s better with the visual aids.
An Exploration of Sol Lands - Legacy Fundamentals
It took me longer than expected to create this piece as Name Sticker Goblin got banned about halfway through my workflow, so I had to go back and re-write and edit a bunch of stuff.
So Let’s Explore Sol Lands!
What Are Sol Lands?
Sol Lands are at the core of a manabase that powers several decks in Legacy.
We call Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors “Sol Lands” because they make the same amount of mana as one of the most powerful cards in magic, Sol Ring.
To offset their high power level each has a downside.
City of Traitors must be sacrificed if it’s controller plays another land afterwards while Ancient Tomb costs 2 life every time it’s tapped for mana.
We also see similar lands that can make multiple mana but that I won’t classify as Sol Lands nor explore their uses, there are a couple categories of similar but different lands.
Gaea’s Cradle, Serra’s Sanctum, and Phyrexian Tower can all make more than one mana but depend on other permanents already being in play.
The Masques Depletion lands like Sandstone Need, have similar effects but are distinctly less powerful as they are both slower and provide mana for only a few turns
Some other options split the difference, Crystal Vein and the Sac Lands like Dwarven Ruins can make consistent mana, then provide a burst of two mana when sacrificed.
What makes Sol Lands Powerful?
This might seem like a silly question, the intuitive answer is “They make 2 mana you dummy”
They certainly do make two mana, but why is this good?
I want to go back to basics for a moment to thoroughly answer this question.
Mana is one of the primary resources of the game along with card quantity.
The game design of magic has a supply and demand curve of mana production being supply and cards in hand to spend mana on being demand.
A common shorthand used to represent this is “the player that spends more mana, wins the game”
It’s a way of saying that the player who’s mana supply meets their mana demand can take more game actions and better leverage their resources to ideally outpace their opponent.
One of the unique aspects of Eternal formats like Legacy is that there are tools to increase mana supply on the turn they are played, called Fast Mana.
There are many forms of Fast Mana but outside of Sol Lands we have the Moxen, Rituals, Lotus Petal, and Spirit Guides.
Apart from Sol Lands, the persistent Fast Mana sources like Chrome Mox and Mox Diamond require a two card investment in order to function.
One shot effects like Rituals, Petals, and Guides are inherently not persistent mana sources.
Rituals often provide more mana but require an initial mana investment, while Petal and Spirit Guides can be an initial mana source but are limited to making a single mana.
Sol Lands are unique in Legacy in that they increase mana supply the same turn played, are persistent mana sources, while only costing a single card to provide this effect.
To illustrate the power lets compare them in a vacuum to a basic land.
If we look at a curve where one deck plays a Sol Land on Turn One and does not make another land drop, vs a deck that makes a land drop every turn using Basic Lands or Dual lands.
It takes until turn 3 for the deck playing regular lands to catch up on cumulative mana generation and requires three times the cards invested, compared to the Sol Land deck.
Not only is this fast but it also illustrates a form of card advantage where fewer resources need to be invested into the mana base.
Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors are good because they make 2 mana each turn but more importantly they are the most stable and card compact way to do so in Legacy.
Without delving into the nitty-gritty, it’s easy to see how a deck that plays Ancient Tomb into City of Traitors can accrue a huge mana advantage.
These lands provide a confluence of 3 advantages, Ramp, Fast Mana, and a form of Card Advantage, all in a land-slot.
What Deckbuilding Restrictions do they Impose?
While they are powerful and do not require the use of any additional resources to generate mana the Sol Lands impose a deckbuilding cost.
They only make colourless mana meaning that there are limitations on what the mana can be spent on.
Efficiency is an extremely important component of card choice in Magic overall, with Legacy having access to all cards printed barring the banned list.
If we look at the most played cards in the format we see a clear lack of colourless mana costs in Legacy Staples, there are cards like Force of Will and Grief that are essentially 0-Mana in most situations, threats like Delver, Orcish Bowmasters, Elvish Reclaimer, and Murktide Regent that require either all or most of their costs paid by coloured mana sources.
The deckbuilding restriction is somewhat obvious, spells need to be castable using the colourless mana from Sol Lands, basically having 2 or more colourless mana in their mana costs.
Cards like this fall into two categories, colourless 2-4 mana spells like Chalice of the Void and The One Ring, and Mono-Coloured 3 Drops that require only a single coloured mana to cast like Goblin Rabblemaster or Show and Tell.
Urza’s Saga is a common inclusion in Sol Land decks, while not being cast using the mana, the 2nd chapter ability is a clean way to spend the mana from a Sol Land.
The Sol Land Mana-Curve
Sol Lands incentivize a very different kind of deck construction compared to the rest of Legacy.
If we look at the mana curve of a couple decks the differences are obvious.
I’ve got a couple examples here to illustrate this.
These mana curves are comprised of spells for which mana is spent to play them.
Evoke and Pitch cards may or may not be included depending on their primary use, Force of Will is counted as a “Free Spell” and not a 5-Drop, Troll of Khazad-Dum is counted as a 1-Drop, but Endurance is counted as a 3-Drop because of how it is frequently cast vs evoked.
In an attempt to compare like-for-like here are some Fair decks without Sol Lands and a couple Fair decks with Sol Lands.
I’m defining Fair as decks that win exclusively through combat damage while having some tools to interact or disrupt the opponents game-plan.
The Temur Delver Mana curve, excluding free and 0-mana spells, a lot of 1s some 2s and flexibility in how much mana to spend on Murktide Regent.
Another Fair deck, Maverick, has a curve skewed towards 1s, 2s, and some 3s, with a single 4-drop, Green Sun’s Zenith can be cast for many mana costs but is frequently cast for one mana, to find Dryad Arbor.
This deck, a classic Sol Land Deck, MUD, from my friend Jim Monolith?, a man who loves MUD so much he changed his entire, totally real legal name, has a curve that realistically starts at 2, has some 3s and 4s, with a small number of 1s that are primarily used as search targets for Urza’s Saga.
The Moon Stompy curve starts at 2 with Chalice of the Void usually being cast for X=1, we see lots of 3s and then a playset of 5s in Fury which can be evoked or hard-cast.
We see a pretty big difference between the mana costs of the cards played these different decks.
Sol Land decks frequently have a mana curve that realistically starts at 2-Mana, whereas decks without sometimes top out at 2 mana with a much higher focus on 1-drops.
While not representative of all decks that include Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors these mana curves illustrate the incentives and costs associated with leveraging a Sol Land mana base.
High Risk = High Reward
The upsides of Sol Lands are clear, they provide mana quickly and efficiently allowing the Sol Land player to out-pace their opponent and run away with the game.
These upsides come with risks and vulnerabilities, consistency being the foremost of these.
In order to take advantage of this compact mana engine, we’re incentivized to play 2-4 mana cards that can be cast with Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors.
Because a maximum of 8 combined copies of Tomb and City can be included in a Legacy deck, this means that casting these cards without a Sol Land is often too slow and possibly low impact for the format.
Consider the difference between playing Chalice of the Void on Turn 1 vs Turn 2 when playing Moon Stompy.
On the play with a Sol Land we can play Sol Land>Chalice cutting off our opponent from casting a 1-drop on turn 1, while also being immune to being Dazed as our opponent has not yet made a land-drop.
If we have a hand that does not include any fast mana and we take this same situation, we play a mountain and pass, our opponent plays Volcanic Island>Delver, we can still cast Chalice on turn two but a Delver is already in play and our opponent can Daze our Chalice, unlocking their future cantrips and 1-drops.
This difference is obvious, but it has implications in mulligan decisions, Sol Land decks often have a narrower band of keepable hands compared to non-Sol Land decks, meaning that mulligans are much more likely.
The increased number of mulligans can offset the pseudo card advantage provided by an Ancient Tomb or City of Traitors.
You likely have guessed the 2nd vulnerability, Wasteland.
At time of writing, there is a greater than 50% chance that an opponent is playing Wasteland in their deck.
Because Sol Lands incentivize deckbuilding with spells that are too slow when cast with regular lands this means that Wasteland has a larger than normal impact.
There are many ways that player can attempt to mitigate these risks but often come with their own costs.
For example some Mystic Forge Artifact Combo decks play Serum Powder to effectively increase the number of mulligans they can take, but this inclusion adds some dead draws during the game.
What Decks Play Sol Lands
Stompy and Prison Decks
I’m grouping Stompy and Prison decks together as they operate on a spectrum with aggressive threats on one end and lock pieces on the other, but each are attempting to resolve 2-4 drops ahead of curve.
The more aggressive Stompy decks like Boros Initiative typically focus on leveraging the mana from Sol Lands and other Fast Mana like Chrome Mox, Simian Spirit Guide, and Lotus Petal to play overcosted threats early and overwhelm the opponent.
On the other hand Prison decks like MUD and Stax have a primary focus on using cards like Chalice of the Void, Trinisphere, and Sphere of Resistance to effectively prevent the opponent from making plays.
Moon Stompy falls roughly in the middle of this spectrum, combining a significant number of Lock Pieces with an equivalent number of stand-alone threats.
Hybrid Decks
Decks like Painter, Cauldron, and Bomberman have both a fast combo kill enabled by Sol Lands and a respectable beatdown plan, often leaning on Urza’s Saga.
Some of these decks play Lock Pieces like Chalice, others, like Painter opt for a larger amount of removal or interaction like Pyroblast.
Combo Decks
There are so many dedicated Combo decks that leverage Sol Lands that I don’t think I could realistically list them all.
They tend to fall into a couple of categories, Spell Based, Artifact Based, and A+B Combos
Show and Tell decks are the most popular of the A+B Combo decks with Sol Lands. Leveraging Sol Lands and Fast Mana to play a turn one or two Show and Tell putting in Omniscience, Emrakul or Atraxa, while still having enough resources left to have Force of Will
The Artifact Based Combo decks include Mystic Forge Combo, and Jewel Artifacts, using the Sol Lands to play gain a huge mana advantage and go over the top of opponents with high mana cost card advantage engines like The One Ring, Mystic Forge and Coveted Jewel+Copy Effects.
The Epic Gamble is the deck I think of when pondering Sol Land Spell Combo decks, it’s roughly 2/3rds Ritual and Artifact fast mana and Sol Lands, a playset of Defence Grid and the rest are card draw spells and Wish effects to either draw cards or fetch a win-condition.
The final prominent Sol Land Combo deck is Creative Technique or Mississippi River, a one-card combo deck that is extremely consistent but if extremely vulnerable to Wasteland and dedicated hate cards like Damping Sphere and Deafening Silence.
Other Sol Land Decks
Apart from Stompy, Prison, Hybrid, and Combo decks, there are a couple of other decks leveraging Ancient Tomb.
GW Sphere Lands only plays a couple copies of Ancient Tomb to increase the number of hands where it can play a Sphere of Resistance on Turn 1, but it already has a playset of Mox Diamond and is often content with playing Sphere on turn 2.
Colourless Cloudpost decks are not very common these days but often leverage Sol Lands in conjunction with Cloudpost and Glimmerpost to power out big colourless threats, often the smaller Eldrazi creatures like Thought-Knot Seer.
Decks that include Sol Lands vs Sol Land Centric Decks
I want to briefly draw a distinction between decks that rely on Sol Lands for their primary gameplan vs decks that include them without relying on them.
Decks like Moon Stompy have few functional hands without a Sol Land whereas The Epic Gamble has a wide range of them.
This depends on what the deck is trying to do and what resources need to be leveraged in order to achieve that end.
Brewing with Sol Lands
What if you want to play your Ancient Tombs but don’t like any of the existing decks?
You can try and brew!
We often see a lot of innovation occur with decks powered by Sol Lands.
There is a huge number of viable combo decks built leveraging Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors.
Many cards that would not be powerful or efficient enough in Legacy unless played in conjunction with Sol Lands and there are constantly new ones being printed, so there will always be new and fresh ways to to play with these lands.
An example of this is the Affinity deck that emerged after the introduction of Simulacrum Synthesizer in Outlaws of Thunder Junction.
This deck leverages Artifact Synergies to go over the top of opponents while being able to leverage some interaction in the form of Metallic Rebuke and some Silver Bullets searchable with Urza’s Saga.
Simulacrum Synthesizer would not be fast enough for the format without Sol Lands providing the additional mana to cast it and then other 3+ mana cards to accrue value.
It seems like a pretty good deck and conveniently can play through some of the most popular Artifact hate like Meltdown and Pernicious Deed due to the high mana values of many threats.
Try some stuff and maybe you’ll break the broken Sol lands!
So we Understand the Lands, Now What?
Now that we have an understanding of the Sol Lands, I want to explore playing with them.
Playing with Sol Lands can be difficult to resolve down to a core competency, not like it will stop me from trying.
This is because the skills needed to play a deck like Boros Initiative is vastly different from those needed for a deck like Omni-Tell, and yet again vastly different than The Epic Gamble.
I think the two key components to keep top of mind are Mulligan decisions and Sequencing.
For Stompy and Prison decks we usually aim to keep hands that make an impactful proactive play on turn 1 or turn 2 at the latest, and are able to survive opposing an Wasteland and/or Daze, if possible.
Sequencing correctly can be difficult but ideally be as mana efficient as possible while trying to playing around Wasteland/Daze.
I think these same principles apply to the Artifact Combo decks like Jewel and Mystic Forge Combo but are admittedly decks that are not really within my range.
Omni and Sneak can be slightly more forgiving with their sequencing and mulligan decisions as they include 8+ cantrips and include the Sol Lands as a way to accelerate and not as a core component of the gameplan.
The new Affinity Deck has similar dynamics to the Stompy and Prison decks but with Metalcraft and Affinity being additional ways to gain mana advantage without having to draw a Sol Land.
Sequencing is even more important here as cards costs and effects change depending on the order in which they are played with both Patchwork and Simulacrum accruing advantage for subsequent artifacts played, while cards like Mox Opal and the Affinity creatures need artifacts in play.
Our sequencing with any of these decks can inadvertently provide information to our opponent and this can be used to mislead them as well.
For example if we want to maximize the use of our lands we typically would lead on Ancient Tomb instead of City of Traitors because we are likely to sacrifice our City if we want to double spell later in the game.
Because of this, leading on City often indicates to our opponent that we are light on mana sources, which lets them know to prioritize attacking our mana.
On the other hand if we have a hand where we have enough permanent and fast mana sources to survive Wastelands we may actually want to lead on City to bait a wasteland on it effectively time-walking our opponent.
Despite being sometimes considered easy or beginner decks, Sol Land decks have an incredible amount of depth and but require a different skill set than many other legacy decks.
Why you should play with Sol Lands
Play Sol Lands because they’re fun and powerful!
I would recommend to play with Sol Land decks if you enjoy sequencing, and don’t mind mulliganning aggressively.
They may not be a great choice if you prefer to cast cantrips, and favour interaction like force of will or discard.
Love’em or hate’em Sol Lands are a core pillar of Legacy gameplay, so understanding the dynamics they introduce is critical to success regardless of which side you’re on.
If you are not practiced with these decks I would encourage you to play some games with them if you have the opportunity as this can be invaluable in learning how to beat them.
Maybe I’m bad but I routinely find that playing the opposite side of a matchup helps me immensely in improving my play.
Conclusion
Sol Lands are fun and powerful, they are one of the unique aspects to Legacy, this was a very shallow exploration of their dynamics but I would love to hear your thoughts.
I like that many Sol Land decks don’t play City of Traitors and are very light on Reserved List cards allowing them to be more accessible as an entry point.
What Sol Land Decks do you like?

2024.05.28 22:00 No-Coast1977 FIRST LIGHT — apocalyptic, action, drama, rebellion, plot twists

Setting
It’s been nearly two years since the world ended in flames and the majority of the human kind perished. The Lincoln State Correctional Center in Ohio, or now simply "Lincoln", is a community run by the self-proclaimed Samaritans. They are a well-organized and ruthless group that thrives on hostile takeovers of remaining pockets of survivors and oppression of the low ranking residents. Prison origins and stratification—it's a harsh reality where a bunch of top dogs and their "dictator" are in charge of the majority. Majority of the hard working people. Some of them are ex-inmates, others rescued survivors or assimilated involuntarily.
There are rumors of certain Lincoln residents preparing to rebel against the tyranny—an underground movement raging against the “King” and his merciless rules.
Which side are you on when the riots start?

The rhythmic thuds above picked up his heart rate. Like an army marching in one place—their hammering feet punching dust off the ceiling.
Andrew drew his limbs closer, hands fisting, whole body braced. He knew that chanting. Demand heard in the hundreds of voices. The *blood sport. And God, for what, for human entertainment. But they've been there already, for centuries. Societies that were feeding the population with gore and pain of their unlucky brothers and sisters.*
Didn't they evolve by now?
Did the end of days so easily push mankind back to the Dark Ages?
Were they this hopeless?
The heavy mechanism of the solitary cell released the door with a clunk. Andrew dug his nails into curled palms, shutting his eyes tight for a few heartbeats to brace the shattered soul for what was to come. Then he sprung up, ignoring the burn in his joints and the bile in his throat. He wasn’t going to cower!

2024.05.28 21:52 RevolutionaryLion384 What ends up happening to female teachers who get caught with students, after they get sent to prison?

Do female inmates get policed as badly as male inmates do when it comes to these types of crimes? I notice that society in general tends to not look at it as negatively as they do if it's a male teacher in that similar situation, so is it the same women's prison?

2024.05.28 21:09 Theeaglestrikes I’m a 999 operator, and people claim to keep seeing a disturbing contortionist who died in 2022.

Details such as names, dates, and locations have been altered to protect myself and the people of my town, but the story is true.
Everybody in my area knows about Kit Jenson, the Crazed Contortionist. A moniker he posthumously earnt after butchering his wife and taking his own life. The deranged man was a performer. An artist, he would have said. Jenson frequently put on a mesmerising contortionist display at the old theatre in Greentree. A show that was loved, though he was an oddball.
Still, in spite of what folk call him, he did not slaughter Mandy Jenson in a performative way. There was no display of gratuitous grandeur. The two bodies were not packed into some poky space, like a pair of contorted sardines. He beheaded his wife and threw himself from a sixth-floor balcony.
They both died on Tuesday 10th May, 2022. I know that because I’ve researched it extensively. Read and re-read articles until my eyes throbbed. Just to ensure that I’ve not entirely lost my marbles. There's no denying it. They’ve been gone for two years.
That’s why I don’t understand the calls I received on Friday 24th May, 2024. Calls that all stemmed from a town I shall call Greentree.
~Call 1 – 12:40pm~
Operator: 999. Police. What is the nature of your emergency?
Caller: Hello. I, erm… I should’ve called earlier, but I just didn’t get it. And now something’s happened. Something awful. Erm, my… My name’s Ian Poole. I work at the care home off Broad Street. Know the one?
Operator: Yes, I do. What’s happened, Ian?
Caller: Well, a few of the folk in the east wing have been acting bizarrely all day. There was an incident, and… Well, they’re starting to frighten me. Frighten all of us.
Operator: I see. What was the incident, Ian? Why did you call the emergency services?
Caller: One of the residents seriously injured someone. It was Mr Harrison, one of our oldest residents. He… Oh, God. He broke Mrs Renley’s legs. I don’t… I don’t…
Operator: Okay. Breathe for me, Ian. It’s going to be okay. I’ll dispatch officers, but I have to ask whether Mr Harrison has pre-existing mental health problems?
Caller: Well, of course he does. You understand the nature of this place, right? It’s a home for dementia patients. Not a retirement village.
Operator: I understand that, Ian. Do you understand why I asked the question? When it comes to crimes committed by dementia sufferers, such incidents rarely result in court action. The patient has no knowledge of what they’re doing.
Caller: Yes, I know. Shit, I’m not trying to throw Mr Harrison in prison. I’m trying to protect everybody. He’s… We sedated him, but now Mrs Renley’s not herself either. I know what you’re thinking. Obviously, she’s not herself, given her injured legs. But it’s the opposite of what you’d expect. She… She should be in pain, but she’s not. She’s just not herself. And this madness is like a disease. It’s spreading throughout the wing. I don’t want to stay in here. None of us want to stay in here.
Operator: Okay. I’ve dispatched some officers, and the ambulance service has been notified. But tell me what happened, Ian. I’m not getting the full picture.
Caller: I know. It’s hard to say what happened though. I saw it, and I still don’t understand. It was a frightening morning. I’m the manager here, but I didn’t arrive until ten. And my co-worker, Susan, was flustered. She’d been crying because Mr Harrison called her a rude name. Well, what’s new there? That’s what I thought, but I didn’t say it out loud, of course. Anyway, Susan said that Mr Harrison was behaving even more strangely than usual. To give you some context, he… He often speaks in broken sentences, he’s practically immobile, and he doesn’t recognise his loved ones. That’s the level of his deterioration. But today, he’s been lucid. Very lucid. He even got up and strolled around. I’ve not seen him walk more than two steps in months.
Operator: Right. How did this lead to an altercation with Mrs…?
Caller: … Renley. Right. Well, she was complaining about Mr Harrison’s incessant chattering. Not a new complaint, mind you. See, he’s always chattering, but it’s usually jumbled nonsense. That’s what I’m trying to explain to you. Today, he’s been speaking in complete sentences, and he’s been saying horrible things. Things that make my skin crawl. I don’t know why. It was nothing particularly threatening, but I feel… He feels dangerous. Well, clearly he’s dangerous.
Operator: What exactly happened between Mr Harrison and Mrs Renley? How did the assault occur?
Caller: Lenny said that Mr Harrison had been ranting for a while. He even wrote down some of the things Mr Harrison was saying, before things became volatile. ‘I am endless.’ That’s one of the things he’s written. What else? Erm… ‘I will endlessly be the greatest artist there has even been. The true one. The stage never dies. I must persist.’
Operator: Right. Mr Harrison said a lot, didn’t he? I hope you don’t take offence, Ian, but none of those sentences sound particularly lucid to me. It sounds exactly like the jumbled rant of a dementia sufferer. Words that mean nothing at all.
Caller: No. I work here every day. Trust me. That wasn’t normal. Look, I get what you’re saying. And you’re right, in a sense. People say and do the strangest things in this place. Things that’ll break your heart or set your hairs on end. But residents often regress to the people they once were, and none of those words match the man that Mr Harrison used to be. He wasn’t a poet or a performer. He didn’t speak eloquently or care for the arts. Back when he used to speak clearly, he didn’t speak like that.
Operator: Ian.
Caller: Fine. I understand. You might be right. After all, we thought the same. I would’ve dismissed it. So would’ve Susan. In fact, we did dismiss it. She dried her eyes, pulled up her bootstraps, and came to the canteen with me. We heard some commotion, and that was when it happened.
Operator: The assault?
Caller: Yeah. Mrs Renley said something Mr Harrison didn’t like. ‘It wasn’t a good show’. According to Lenny, at one point, the man had been doing yoga. Susan and I found that hard to believe, as he’d hardly moved for months. Anyway, Lenny was already heading over to Mr Harrison when Susan and I entered the room, as things were becoming a little too heated.
Operator: What was Mr Harrison saying?
Caller: He called Mrs Renley an ‘uncultured swine without the intellect to digest true art’. Now, this is what I mean. I know you don’t know Mr Harrison, but he was a typical bloke. A man of few words. Even when he could talk in full sentences, a year or so ago, he did not speak like that. He hasn’t been himself today. Almost as if somebody else were… Never mind.
Operator: Right. Okay. What about the assault, Ian?
Caller: Oh. Sorry. I’m just… I’m trying to avoid talking about that. Look, I’ve already said what happened. He broke her legs.
Operator: Yes, but I need to know more than that. That’s a very serious assault. Did Mr Harrison use a weapon? You said your co-worker, Lenny, was in the room. Then you and Susan were in the room. Three members of staff. One perpetrator. A man who you told me was mostly immobile. ‘Practically’ immobile, you said. So, why didn’t any of you manage to stop him?
Caller: Our residents have no access to dangerous things. Don’t try to turn this into an investigation of Greentree Nursing Home. We operate things properly here.
Operator: I’m not accusing you of anything, Ian. I’m trying to understand how on Earth this happened. So, if he had no weapon, how did Mr Harrison break Mrs Renley’s legs?
Caller: I… I don’t… I don’t want to say. When are the responders getting here?
Operator: In a few minutes. And you don’t have to talk to me, but at some point, you’ll have to answer detailed questions about the incident. You have a duty of care to those residents, and given that such a serious assault occurred whilst three members of staff were present–
Caller: – He used his bare fucking hands. Okay? He… Mr Harrison snapped Mrs Renley like a fucking twig. One leg after the other. Snapped each limb upwards, far past breaking point. I'm looking at her right now. The bones are protruding. There’s blood everywhere. Our trained nurse applied tourniquets and bandaged the wounds, so she says that should’ve stopped the blood loss. Mrs Renley should be okay until the responders arrive. Physically, anyway. I thought about asking for an ambulance when I rang 999, but… Look, we wanted the police. We’re scared. We thought we… Oh, I don’t know anymore.
Operator: Don’t worry about that, Ian. I’ve dispatched an ambulance as well. What have you done with Mr Harrison? Does he pose a threat to any residents or members of staff?
Caller: No. We were scared of him at first. Don’t worry. He’s… He’s fine. No threat to any of us. We gave him some Lorazepam to calm him down a little. He’s in his room, and a member of staff is watching him. We’re scared of Mrs Renley now. She’s started sounding like him. Talking about performing on stage. And some of the others have started saying odd things. But Mrs Renley scares me the most. She told me that she ‘could bend her legs a little farther, if I’d just give her a stage’. I don’t… I don’t understand any of this.
Operator: Right… I… Thank you, Ian. Do you want to stay on the phone until the responders arrive? The paramedics should be there before the police. Any second now, in fact.
Caller: Yes, I hear the sirens outside, but I think I should hang up. I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I want to go to sleep.
Operator: Okay, Ian. The paramedics will help. I promise.
Call ended at 12:18pm.
Responders arrived to find that five of the residents in the east wing had passed from heart attacks, including Mr Harrison and Mrs Renley. Several others are still in hospital.
When I received this call at the beginning of my shift, it horrified me. I was struggling to come to terms with the thought of such a vicious assault, though I’d heard of worse things. Once, a killer confessed his crime to me. Yet, somehow, this frightened me more than any other call. Something about the dread in the voice of Ian Poole. It was contagious. A disease, like he said.
And it was only the first crumb of Friday’s awful events. Events which took place on a date that carried no significance, though I’ve spent days searching for answers. Searching for whatever ties everything together. I’ve found only one horrible link.
Kit Jenson.
~Call 2 – 3:24pm~
Operator: Police. What is the nature of your emergency?
Caller: A strange man is following me home.
Operator: Okay. How long has he been following you?
Caller: Since I left school. Oh, God, he’s still there. He’s still there.
Operator: Okay. It’s all going to be okay. I’m going to send a police officer out to you. Just stay calm for me. Which school was this?
Caller: Greentree High School. My name’s Cora Ashburn.
Operator: Thank you, Cora. Okay. Where are you right now? Is there anyone else around? A group of people who seem safe, perhaps?
Caller: I’m on a street with lots of houses. Wait. Why? Should I do something? Should I knock on a door? I don’t… He’s so close. He’s so close. He seems to be getting closer, no matter how quickly I move. Shit. What’s wrong with him?
Operator: Stay calm, Cora. Do you–
Caller: – What’s wrong with his body? There’s something wrong with his body.
Operator: Do you know the name of the street, Cora?
Caller: Yeah, it’s Crescent Drive. Off Main Street.
Operator: Thank you. The police are coming, okay? And I wasn’t suggesting that you start knocking on doors. I need you to keep walking, okay? Do you see anybody on the pavement?
Caller: Oh, God.
Operator: I’m sorry. I don’t want to frighten you. Breathe for me, Cora. It’s all going to be okay. A responder is on the way, all right? We’re only five minutes from your road. Have you seen anybody else on the street?
Caller: I don’t know. I’m walking, like you said. I don’t want to stop. I’m just moving. He’s so fast though. He’s on his [inaudible]. I don’t know. What is he doing? He doesn’t look real. He looks… His spine is bent. His arms. I’m losing my fucking [inaudible]. I don’t know [inaudible]. Shit.
Operator: Just a few minutes, Cora. You should hear the sirens in the distance. Do you hear them? They’re close.
Caller: I see someone. I see someone in the playground. Should I go to them?
Operator: As long as you stay nearby, Cora. The responders need to be able to easily find you. Who have you seen in the playground? It’ll help to make you identifiable when the responders arrive. A girl in a Greentree uniform, and…?
Caller: It’s a woman. Hey. Help. Help me. A man’s following me. He’s… Oh, God. No, no, no, no, no, no. What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with you?
Call ended at 3:27pm.
When responders arrived at 3:29pm, they did not find Cora Ashburn. Four days later, she is still missing.
After sweeping the playground beside Crescent Drive, officers found a threadbare cardigan knotted onto two interlinking bars of a jungle gym. Something that only warranted attention because its remaining strands had mostly unravelled from a gaping hole in the centre. Worst of all, upon closer inspection, it appeared to be blood-stained.
After the evidence was brought into the station, an investigating officer recognised the item of clothing from an old case. It was the cardigan found on the corpse of Mandy Jenson. A cardigan that was discarded once the case had swiftly, and decisively, been closed. Two years earlier.
~Call 3 – 6:16pm~
Operator: Police. What is the nature of your emergency?
Caller: He’s, erm… He’s got… Oh, he’s wrong, man. He’s all [inaudible] wrong. Like, [inaudible] head’s gone. Head’s coming off, mate. Know what I mean? Y’know?
Operator: Sorry, I didn’t understand any of that. You’re slurring. What’s the emergency?
Caller: Hey, love. Are you okay? Is that [inaudible]? Why are you crying, love? Oh, shit. Did he do that to you? Did he [inaudible]? Fuck me. Fuck.
Operator: Are you okay? Who else is with you? Please tell me what’s happening.
Caller: Don’t… Don’t [inaudible] hang up. I have an emergency. I do. This lass has been… She’s having a rough night, mate. She’s having a… Shit. Fuck.
Operator: Take a deep breath. Just tell me what’s happening. Slowly. Calmly.
Caller: I’ve had a bit to drink.
Operator: I can tell.
Caller: Sorry, I just [inaudible].
Operator: I really need you to speak clearly. What has happened to the woman you mentioned?
Caller: It’s this guy. He was hassling [inaudible]. He was, like, off. Just fucking off. Didn’t really see him. I felt it though. This tall fella. Weird [inaudible] figure. Some creep who vanished when a bunch of us came out of the [inaudible]. Don’t know where he went, but she’s just… She’s [inaudible] rough. He hurt her. There’s so much fucking blood.
Operator: Right. Okay. A man hurt a woman. Where are you?
Caller: In the centre of [inaudible]. Near The Old Arms. In the [inaudible]. The, erm… Where the cars park. The… The car park. Around the back of the pub, y’know?
Operator: I know the pub. Okay. I’ll be sending emergency responders to your location. Stay on the phone, and please do not leave the woman on her own. Are any other people there?
Caller: The others went home. I told the landlord, but he’s gone. Don’t know [inaudible]. Don’t want to leave her. Y’know? There was another woman, but [inaudible] left.
Operator: Do you think I’d be able to talk to the injured woman? Or would you be able to talk to her, at least? Just until the paramedics arrive. Is she breathing? You’ve not described her injuries.
Caller: I, er, [inaudible]. She’s twitching, but she isn’t, like, gonna… She isn’t gonna talk, mate. Her mouth’s all… The man broke her jaw, and she’s just… Do you hear [inaudible]?
Operator: I hear another voice. Is that her?
Caller: Yeah, she’s… I tried to talk to her, but she didn’t [inaudible] words. She just… Oh, shit. Oh, shit, shit, [inaudible]. Where does the [inaudible]? Fucking [inaudible].
Operator: Hello? Are you okay? What’s happening? I’ve dispatched some officers. They’re already in the town centre. Only a couple of minutes away from the pub. Please stay on the phone. Tell me what’s happening.
No intelligible words.
Call ended at 6:25pm
For the remainder of the call, though I tried to communicate with the man, I heard only muffled noises. Crunching and what almost sounded like howls of agony, though the connection was garbled. I pretended that the sounds were perfectly explainable, but that didn’t ease the knot in my gut. I knew something was dreadfully wrong.
Responders arrived at 6:25pm, finding the phone of Robert Anderson outside The Old Arms. And Officer Jeffrey Ross claimed that he had seen something in the alley beside the establishment. The body of a man being ‘misshapen’ by a figure in the darkness. Misshapen. That was the word he used repeatedly.
Officer Isabelle Donaldson didn’t see what her partner alleged to have seen. It was ‘there one moment and gone the next’, in Officer Ross’ words. And he called the alleged figure at the end of the alley ‘recognisable’. Ross told investigators that the perpetrator’s ‘costume’ reminded him of the one Kit Jenson used to wear for his performances at Greentree Theatre.
~Call 4 – 9:19pm~
Operator: Police. What’s your emergency?
Caller: Oh. I needed an ambulance.
Operator: Okay. Well, I –
Caller: – Shush. I need a little bit of quiet, please.
Operator: What is the nature of your–
Caller: – I said ‘shush’.
Operator: I’m afraid I won’t shush. This is an emergency line. Would you like me to patch you through to the ambulance services?
Caller: Maybe I do need the police.
Operator: Okay. What’s happened? What’s happening?
Caller: No, forget it. Forget it. I spoke out of line. It’s… Oh, hello, Kit.
Operator: Is somebody else there? What’s the nature of your emergency?
Caller: I said I was sorry. I said I was sorry. I said I was sorry. I said I was sorry.
Operator: Are you okay? Please tell what’s happening. I want to help. Are you not able to talk right now? Is that the problem?
Caller: You’re right, Kit. I didn’t understand your art. Oh, I just didn’t understand, but I do now. I’m sorry I didn’t applaud. Yes. No, of course. The town deserves it. Every last one of us. You’re right. You’re right. You’re right. You’re–
Operator: – Miss, who is in the room with you? Would you be able to give me some sign that you’re in danger? A code word, perhaps? How about ‘house’?
Caller: I’m not ignoring you, sir. I was just talking to him. You will be able to help me. I need somebody to come and find me, so the place doesn’t smell afterwards, you see. It would be a shame for the smell to tarnish the place. Like it did when she…
Operator: Are you having thoughts? What is your state of mind right now? If you give me your location, I –
Caller: – Round Mills. Apartment 201. Yes, I know, Mandy. I know. But he makes such a beautiful point. You see, if I try and fail, I will finally appreciate his art. That’s all he wants. Just a little appreciation. It’s the only way, Mandy. The only way.
Splintering sounds were audible.
Operator: Miss? Miss? What’s happening? I’ve dispatched an ambulance and a couple of officers to your location. If you tell me what’s happened to you, I might be able to help. It’ll certainly help the paramedics.
More splintering sounds were followed by a distant scream.
Caller: Oh. Yes. Yes, you were right, Kit. I got it all wrong. My legs don’t bend that way. Not like yours. My arms. No, I’m not like you, Kit. Not the Incredible Kit. Not the… Oh? Yes, I suppose I should try that too. Yes. I’ll try bending my neck. If I just –
One final splinter sounded.
Call ended at 9:27pm.
Quiet followed the woman’s unfinished sentence. Not silence.
I heard the sound of applause. The slight patter of a person’s slow, measured claps, muffled by the bad reception of the call. And sobbing. Two terrible noises that immediately ceased when the front door of the apartment burst open.
Responders found nobody in the apartment but Rachel Jenson, the sister of Mandy Jenson. Rachel was mangled in a way that made one paramedic vomit, and I’ve been told no more than that. I only learnt of the aftermath, detailed in this post, through a friend of mine who works at Greentree Police Station.
I keep thinking about the scream that I heard. One that, I am certain, did not come from Rachel Jenson. She sounded joyous. Her voice became increasingly unhinged as she brutally contorted her body into sickening configurations.
Thinking about it, I do remember Kit’s final show being quite lacklustre. A performance that took place shortly before his death. I didn’t attend, but I heard from other Greentree residents that he fumbled the finish. Kit attempted to escape from a box in a contorted position, but he failed. His wife had to assist him. There was no applause. Only concerned murmuring from the crowd.
People had speculated for years that something wasn’t quite right with the man, and that’s why I keep thinking about what Rachel said. What Ian said. What all of the callers said. Stories of adoration. Appreciation. Rejection. Anger.
Things make a little more sense, when viewed from the right angle. These stories serve as interlinking pieces of a puzzle, forming the picture of a man who might’ve wanted to punish those who did not applaud his disappointing performance. A disgruntled artist’s revenge against the town that dismissed him. A wife who dismissed him.
In truth, Kit Jenson was simply a sick man. People had heard the whispers about his abusive tendencies for years. All it taken was one bad day to push him over the edge. So, such a man would surely want to hurt all those who did not appreciate him. Not only Mandy.
However, even if that were the case, it wouldn’t explain the entirety of that dreadful day of calls. Kit Jenson died two years ago.
Who, or what, did people see in Greentree?

Colonist Booker Smith
UNS Lightbringer
Of all the skills I’d picked up throughout my short lifetime spent back on Earth, I never would have guessed that the ability to mix up homemade hairspray would prove to be so useful. Looking over myself in the captain’s bathroom mirror, however, I could hardly deny the results. Though our faces looked rather different, if one were to judge purely based upon hairstyle, Theruf and I would be indistinguishable.
Adjusting the newly-shortened cuff of Theruf’s uniform sleeve, I exited the lavatory and at a brisk clip took off back toward our ship’s medbay. Stepping inside the room, I watched as Emma and a newly-thawed evolutionary biologist with thinning hair carefully carved into one of the corpses produced during our recent confrontations with the Phylix. Meanwhile, against the room’s far wall, a tall, lanky electrocranial engineer formerly employed by Cogitolink could be seen hooking up various wires to a sedated Theruf whilst John kept watch.
“What all do we know?” I asked, stepping over to the dissection table and taking in its scent akin to that of rotten vegetation mixed with maple syrup. If we were to successfully blend in with Phylix civilization, adequate biological knowledge would be every bit as important as cultural.
“I’ve never seen anything quite like this!” Replied Em, her tone absolutely giddy as she looked up from the microscope under which rested a clump of Phylix ‘flesh’. “Sure, they might look Human on the outside, but internally the differences between us are staggering. For example, while they do obtain a vast majority of their energy from the consumption of organic matter, Phylix also appear to be capable of sophisticated photosynthesis.”
While surely for someone more well-versed in life sciences all this would be incredibly fascinating, I as a hairdresser was far more interested in things that would aid me directly. “And how do they match up in comparison to us?” I asked, hoping to more fully understand what we were up against here.
Experienced as Emma no doubt was in dealing with plants, comparing and contrasting different organisms was far more in the evolutionary biologist’s domain, and as such it was him who next spoke up. “Their bodies appear to prioritize energy efficiency above all else, with some concessions being made for reflex speed,” he began, carefully analyzing an extracted strand of alien sinew as he spoke. “They require fewer than half the calories we do in order to function at optimal capacity, and a small portion of that is covered for by their photosynthetic skin.“
“So we need to eat more than they do. What else do the Phylix have over on us?”
“Let’s see… Phylix skin is tougher than ours, and they appear to possess powerful regenerative abilities almost like those of bamboo. We have them beat at just about everything else, however…” The biologist half-smirked, glancing over at a computer screen loaded with variables beyond my understanding and typing in yet another set of data. “Their reflexes, while rather fast given the gravity of this planet, are nevertheless inferior to our own. We also far outclass them in terms of strength, speed, and endurance.”
“Their central nervous system is different too,” murmured the electrocranial engineer, looking over a three dimensional model presumably of Theruf’s brain—its central mass sequestered inside his skull with roots extending outward from it to form what we Humans had at first mistaken for hair. “I’m seeing signs of both repaired and newly-created neurons within this one’s brain: Humans can’t do that. Phylix neuroplasticity is also off the charts, indicating an enhanced capacity for learning and the ability to adapt to whatever brain damage can’t be healed.”
That was good news for Theruf, at least, given what we had done to him when first obtaining a root sample. If there was one thing I knew about evolution, however, it was that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. “What’s the trade off?” I asked, hoping for something else that we might be able to leverage against the Phylix.
“I’ll need more specimens to say for sure, but looking at this one, my current hypothesis is that they traded away much of their pattern recognition.”
This insight, while much appreciated, was not why we thawed out a Cogitolink employee. “Will you be able to download his memories?” I asked, tapping repeatedly upon my forehead for emphasis. Initially, I had planned to simply interrogate Theruf for information on how to blend in, but threatening a fanatic with martyrdom was about as effective as threatening an alcoholic with a second gin and tonic. Having all the soldier’s knowledge loaded into my GRIM would allow me to blend in seamlessly with his kind, eliminating much of the involved guesswork.
“That depends…” Replied the engineer, his tone unnervingly somber as he navigated to yet another screen. “Their neural structure is too different from ours for a direct transcription, meaning I likely won’t be able to get anything more than basic information… Unless…”
“Unless what?” John growled, looking down upon our unconscious prisoner with icy disregard.
Following a long moment’s hesitation, the engineer eventually relented and with a heavy sigh imparted upon us our second option. “If we run a high-power charge through his brain, the computer will be able to map almost the entire thing. We’ll be able to blend in with his kind perfectly…”
“Lemme guess: there a big fuckin’ catch, isn’t there?” John half-groaned, staring down the former Cogitolink employee as he awaited the inevitable affirmation and elaboration.
“If turning his brain into a heap of organic mush is what you’d consider a drawback, then yes.”
Silence fell over the room as we all contemplated the weight of such a decision. Killing in self-defense was one thing, but the borderline execution of a sapient being, no matter how vile, was another matter entirely. All it took to shatter this quiet, however, were two words from the commodore’s mouth. “Do it.”
Again, the engineer hesitated. “Are you sure?” He asked, his fingers remaining at rest in spite of the order. The rest of us, meanwhile, were too stunned to speak out.
“Don’t you lot forget the contract we signed!” Barked John, his tone booming with power and authority befitting a military man. “Humanity’s survival is our top priority. At all costs.
At last regaining her voice after several long moments of speechlessness, Em stepped past the commodore to stand in solidarity at the engineer’s side. “Theruf is a brainwashed victim of his own society—we can’t just murder him for following orders!”
“Let’s not be overdramatic here!” Cautioned the biologist, his expression utterly unfazed by the notion of putting down our prisoner. “He’s a fascist soldier who’d kill every last one of us given half a chance. At least this way he’ll die for a good cause.”
Indecision immobilized me amidst my fellow’s colonists’ arguing. Back when I first pressed Theruf’s own gun to the back of his head, the urge to end him on the spot had been palpable. Now, however, given the chance to put things into perspective, I wasn’t sure what we should do with the captive. So I remained silent as the lot of them continued their impromptu trial of the unconscious Phylix.
“I’m not so sure I’m comfortable doing this…” The engineer winced, his hands falling away from the keyboard as he cast down his gaze from the waiting commodore’s glare.
“Fine…” John growled, taking a step towards the surgery bay computer and placing his own hand upon it. “Just tell me what commands to type in and I’ll do it. No blood on your hands, right? Just mine.”
Evidently dissatisfied with this rationalization, Em rounded the dissection table and began to approach the commodore as though to stop him manually. Her efforts, however, were thwarted when the biologist moved to intercept her. “We can’t take any risks here!” He sighed, outstretching an arm toward me for emphasis. “If Booker’s disguise fails, it’s game over for us, for the colony—maybe for humanity for all we know!”
“Listen to your fellow scientist,” sighed John, regarding Emma with a confusing concoction of warm understanding and cold, ruthless utilitarianism. “If you think I get some kind of sick kick out of this, then you’re dead wrong; but I swore an oath to keep Humanity safe, and if I have to kill a million of these bastards to do it, then I will not hesitate.”
“Wait!” Stammered the engineer, grabbing John’s arm as though to prevent him from pressing any of the keys. “There might be another way. If you guys can obtain a few more living samples for me, I might be able to calibrate a non-lethal mapping charge.”
“And how many ‘samples’ is that going to take?” Asked the biologist, his tone dripping with skepticism.
For a moment, the former Cogitolink employee hesitated to provide us with an answer to this fairly straightforward inquiry. Eventually, however, he relented in his secrecy. “Forty… Maybe fifty?”
“Getting that many captives would take time that we don't have, Manley!" John barked, offhandedly referencing the engineer's surname amidst his admonishment of the idea.
This argument continued for what must have been half an hour, devolving at times into a shouting match between Emma and the commodore before then cooling off yet again into cold, yet relatively-peaceful periods of debate. This rhythm of argument was disrupted, however, when Em jabbed her finger towards me. "Booker is the one whose going to be wearing Theruf's appearance: it should be his choice whether or not to sacrifice him."
Whereas before the group had been divided into two sides, on this matter Manley and the biologist seemed to agree with Em, deriving a somewhat frustrated sigh from the commodore as he suddenly found himself outnumbered. "Fine..." John conceded, searching my expression for any indication of what route I might take here. Unfortunately for him, even I had not a clue at the moment what to do. "Booker: you've heard our cases for and against this plan, so what do you think we should do?"
If I'm honest, I would have been perfectly happy to let this debate play out entirely without my input. If I agreed to this plan, then the sap of our prisoner would be on my hands; yet if I declined and we wound up failing, then it would be my bloody signature upon the colony's death warrant. The decision was by no means an easy one. Perhaps from an outside perspective, John might seem to be overly callous, but to those of us in that room it was abundantly clear that his actions stemmed from a genuine desire to protect the colony.
Before the lot of them dragged me into this debate, I'd have been perfectly fine with either decision, but now that it was my finger on the trigger, I simply couldn't bring myself to pull it. "We can work with the basics," I confirmed, prompting from the engineer a sigh of relief as he began calibrating a weak mapping charge that would only penetrate the most well-trodden of our prisoner's neural pathways. "We're going to need more identities to infiltrate the camp with anyways. Theruf's people should come looking for him soon: I'll play the part and draw whoever shows up back here so we can capture them."
"And what do you propose we do with them once they're in our hands?" Growled John, still evidently not quite sold on this idea. "We don't have the resources to keep them locked up for long."
"We could use the cryopods!" Replied the botanist in my stead—Fortunately so given my lack of a workable answer. "Judging by Phylix cell structure, they appear to be capable of hibernating to a certain degree, much like certain plants on Earth. So long as we keep the cryopod temperatures in the correct range and thaw out any prisoners once in a while to ensure they don't break down, it should be enough to keep them sedated or at least docile." Em concluded, her expression hardened by newfound acceptance of our circumstances.
Completing his setup of the charge to no fanfare from the rest of us, Manley typed in one final chunk of commands before pressing down upon the terminal's 'enter' key, causing Theruf's body to twitch slightly as a loading bar appeared on screen showing the download progress. When at last the final pixel of white was overtaken by green, my GRIM was quick to notify me of the database's new addition.
Gently pulling Theruf's gun from its holster at my side and turning it over in my grasp, my brain tingled in response to the artificial neuron stimulation of Theruf's implanted memories. Gesturing for the others to follow me, I once again traversed our ship's hallways until the night sky's glittering canvas shone overhead.
Back when I had first held Theruf's weapon in my hands, it had felt completely foreign to me. The mechanisms on it made nary a lick of sense, and in all honesty I probably couldn't have fired it if I tried. Standing amongst the skin trees with our prisoner's memories in my mind, however, I was able to draw the gun and flick off it's safety in a single fluid motion. Behind me, the other colonists watched as I put three shots into one of the trees in front of us, aiming for a large central scab eerily reminiscent of an eye. Trails of crimson dripping from tree's flesh marked where my shots had landed., and though none of them actually hit their mark, the fact that all three bullets even hit the tree at all despite my never firing a gun in my life was in itself evidence of the download's success.
"Not bad..." John chuckled briefly, stepping up beside me and drawing his own gun before planting three shots square in the scab's center, causing it to burst like a blood-filled balloon. "Your aim still needs work, though."
Studying for a moment the bullet holes left behind by my demonstration, Manley hummed in contemplation. "Muscle memory transcriptions are never perfect," he explained, looking curiously upon the weapon as I returned it to its holster. "They can't override more powerful neural connections for example, which is why John's aim is still superior. That being said, Booker, I'm more concerned about what you know than what you can do. The chip should provide you with context when you encounter situations common to Theruf, but it's unlikely you'll be able to recall complex details. You know how to use that gun, sure, but I'd wager to guess you still haven't a clue how it works."
He was right, of course. I knew that I had to hold down the weapon's trigger for at least one second in order for it to fire properly, but I still hadn't a clue why that was the case. Closing my eyes and concentrating upon the information newly nestled within me, I cleared my throat and assuming a rough approximation of our prisoner's voice spoke out. "I am he known as Theruf..." I began, mentally exploring every available aspect of this newfound role dictated to me by the GRIM. "I was raised in the small town of Dzidra. My father works as a mechanic and I have two siblings: Mathul and Zekari... John: get everyone inside the ship and prepare your men for an ambush. I'll go back to the ridge where me and Boris first saw the Phylix and wait for more soldiers to show up, then I'll lure them back here to be captured alive. Can you work with that?"
"Are you seriously asking if I can prep a simple ambush?" Began the commodore, sounding almost offended by the notion of such a thing being in question. "Don't worry about us, 'Theruf': just bring some guests and I'll throw the damn party!"
Satisfied with our plan, John gave me a pat on the back for good luck as I set off once more into the night, weaving between skin trees until our ship’s lights faded from view altogether. At last arriving once more at the overlook, I sat down a few feet from the ledge and there awaited the arrival of Theruf’s fellow soldiers.
Glimmers of new dawn peered out from under the distant horizon amidst my watch, casting shadows upon Theruf's wicked workplace as though to hide its atrocities from the judgmental light of day. Only just had this planet's parent star crested into view when at last were the forest's rhythmic respirations interrupted by a distant grinding of tires against dirt.
Rising to my feet and making my way toward the noise's source, I soon enough found myself stood at the edge of a hitherto-unseen clearing. Hiding myself from sight behind a nearby skin tree, I watched as a bulky military vehicle trundled uphill to then find rest upon the relatively-level forest floor. No sooner had this vehicle come to a stop than did three soldiers clad in uniforms not unlike Theruf's step out. "This is where our brothers in arms were last known to have been," began one of the men. "We should fan out and search the area."
Sounds like that's my cue... Taking a deep breath to steel my nerves, I dramatically limped out into the clearing, waving frantically to my supposed comrades. Though at first they had raised their guns to the noise of my stumbling out, these soldiers were quick to lower their weapons as they got a good look at me.
"Theruf?" One of the soldiers called out, stepping toward me without hesitation. "Good to see you well, man: where are the others?"
"They need help, Fhasda!" I sputtered out in a tone of faux-panic as Theruf's memories filled in the gap of this one's name. "We were investigating a strange object crashing into these forests... And we found something!"
"What exactly did you find?" Asked one of the other soldiers, looking upon me with newfound skepticism.
Staggering back into the forest with a gesture commanding these three soldiers to follow, I turned back around to conceal a grin as they did so without hesitation. "Let me show you: they're this way!" I exclaimed to the unwitting Phylixm, deliberately remaining vague with my explanation so as to keep their curiosity piqued. When at last the ship's lights came into view, I slowed down to allow for Fhasda and the others to catch up as the four of us continued on toward the now vacant entrance ramp. "They're in here!" I told them, pointing toward the open entryway.
Gasps resounded out from the trio of guards as they looked upon the Lightbringer in total disbelief. "What is that thing?" One of them asked, prompting from Fhasda an unsure shrug as he recklessly approached the main ramp.
"We don't know!" I lied, leaning back against a skin tree to signal my exhaustion. "I know they were brought here by whatever attacked us. I think it's gone for now, but I'll keep watch out here in case it comes back!"
"Good idea," Fhasda affirmed, gesturing for his men to take formation around him as without another moment's hesitation they walked up the ship's entrance ramp and entered into the jaws of a waiting ambush...

2024.05.28 19:09 LilacTeaBag [M4F] [M4A] Teaming Up with a Flirtatious Prisoner [Guard Listener] [Prisoner] kinda [Fantasy] [Flirty] [Wholesome]

~First of all, some information about the script :~
I'm open to monetization as long as I receive credit. Minor adjustments to the script for recording are okay, as long as they maintain the original meaning. Adding sound effects or music isn't required, but it can enhance the story's immersion. The key is ensuring the listener understands the plot. My scripts are adaptable to any speaker or listener (A4A, M4A, F4A). If there are any uncertainties, feel free to ask for clarification.
Since English isn't my first language, please notify me of any errors in the script or story structure.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Context :
You're a guard, employed at the largest prison in the country. Fortunately, you're not stationed in the most perilous wing. It's mostly uneventful, with your days spent overseeing high-profile thieves and escapees. However, when a dangerous criminal breaks out from the adjacent section, you find yourself at a loss and are compelled to collaborate with a somewhat unreliable inmate.
Audio length: ~1500 sw, 7 to 15min
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional info :
I wanted to emphasize the seductive and immature personality of the Speaker by having him give a nickname to the Listener. Since the Listener is a guard, I opted for 'Guardie,' which seemed neutral enough to me. However (and as I'm not a native English speaker), if it doesn't make sense or if it's not a catchy nickname, or if it's too hard to pronounce, feel free to change or remove it.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------

[The scene takes place in a prison, with a cold atmosphere, and occasional background noises.]

Speaker: Oh, look who's here! If it isn't my favorite guard!
Speaker: Hey, don't be so grumpy, I know you've been longing to see me, haven't you?
[Speaker approaches the bars]

Speaker (flirting) : Did you come to see me for something specific, or do you already miss me from yesterday, Guardie ?
Speaker (closer): Or maybe you just came to admire my irresistible charm ?
[Listener sets a bag on the ground, rustling/impact noise]

Speaker (a bit disappointed): Oh. I see, you came to bring dinner.
Speaker (sarcastic): I know I know, I can’t leave my cell. But it's not like we're going to escape, right?
[Speaker sits down]

Speaker: A-ny-way. So, what goodies did you bring me today, Guardie?
Speaker (recalling): I hope it's not the same stew as yesterday. No offense, but it was simply repulsive!
Speaker (continuing): Honestly, I couldn't even identify what was in it. Were they turnips, or guts? I couldn't tell.
(Listener explains)
Speaker (disgusted and sarcastic) : Oh, so it's leftovers today… That means more stew for me… Yay…
Speaker: Hm?
(Listener brings a bag into Speaker's cell)

Speaker: Ohh, did you manage to find me something else? Let's see.
[Speaker rummages through the bag]

Speaker: So, what do we have here? Sandwiches, fresh fruits…
Speaker: Oh, and even chocolate bars. I must say I'm spoiled.
[Speaker opens one of the bars, plastic noise]
Speaker: But tell me, are you showing me special treatment by bringing all this?
Speaker (moves closer to Listener): Have I finally managed to charm you?
Speaker: Look at me, Guardie… Are you in love?
[Speaker quickly steps back]

Speaker (amused): Haha, don't look so tense, I'm just joking. …Or maybe I'm not?
[Speaker starts eating his chocolate bar]

Speaker (chewing): Anyway, this food is much better than yesterday's, so thanks.
Speaker (flirting again): I suppose you took quite some risks too. I'm touched, you must really love me a lot…
Speaker (amused): Haha, I can imagine you trying to be conscientious to bring me all this.
(Listener asks a question)

Speaker: What do I mean by that? Well, let's just say you're not the most meticulous.
Speaker: You're more of the clumsy type, you know?
Speaker (opens a sandwich pack): Don't tell me you forgot the time you locked yourself alone in one of the cells, haha. Fortunately, it was empty.
[Speaker eats his sandwich]

Speaker (continuing): If it weren't for the other guards, believe me : I would have succeeded in my escape attempts.
Speaker (bored): Especially that man, the department chief. He's really a pain in the neck.
[Speaker puts down the food]

Speaker: I mean, yes, he's annoying because he's always watching over me, and because of him, I can't escape. But well, it's his job after all.
Speaker: No, I resent him more because he's always sticking to you. What a clingy guy, always wanting to watch over the same places as you. I don't like that.
(…)
Speaker: Have you noticed how he follows you everywhere like your shadow? A little creepy if you ask me.
Speaker: Also, he spends his time trying to talk to you; he must not understand that you're quite calm.
(Listener intervenes)

Speaker: Well, it's true that I also try to get your attention whenever I can.
Speaker (bored): But I'm bored here! And having you nearby makes time pass more quickly. You're like my little play-thing, you see?
Speaker (softer): However, I never cross the line; I never insist when you don't want to talk to me.
[Speaker moves closer]

Speaker (teasing): Although, well, that doesn't happen often. Since you seem to love chatting with me.
Speaker: No, no, don't deny it, I can tell, Guardie.
(…)
Speaker (flirting): Don't worry; the feeling is mutual. I really enjoy spending time with you, even if it's in these conditions.
Speaker: And even if you're not the most careful guard, you have plenty of other qualities.
(…)

Speaker: Hey, it's true! I've noticed plenty of adorable things about you!
Speaker (a bit more serious): Like… I love it when I notice you doodling little cats on your notes. Oh, and I appreciate your ability to stay calm despite tensions in the cells; it's quite impressive.
Speaker (continuing): And that little tic you have of twirling a strand of hair around your finger when you're thinking… it's really cute.
Speaker: And above all, one of the things I love the most is your voice. Every time you find a moment to exchange a few words, I really appreciate its softness.

Speaker (proudly): So, you see? I really pay attention to you.
Speaker (speaking more softly): Not like Mr. Chief who thinks he's better than everyone else.
(…)

Speaker: But… Wait, after spilling all these compliments about you, I'm starting to think I'm the one falling for your charm.
Speaker (teasing): You know what? It doesn't sound too bad at all!
(Listener steps back)

Speaker (feigning sadness): Oh, I haven't even had the chance to make a confession yet, and you already seem to be rejecting me.
Speaker: Guardie, don't tell me you're afraid of commitment?
(…)

Speaker: Quite ironic for someone committed to justice, isn't it?
Speaker (flirting again): Anyway, now I understand a bit better why I'm more hesitant to attempt escapes. I wouldn't want to miss your sweet face.
Speaker: Hey, be honest with yourself; if I were gone, I know you'd miss me terribly too.
[Speaker and Listener hear a loud noise, like a door suddenly opening]

Speaker (slightly surprised): Did you hear that noise too?
Speaker (nonchalant again): Hm, anyway, no matter what it is, the other guards will be here soon.
Speaker (interrupting): I guess we'll continue our discussion a bit later…
[A gigantic, almost monstrous man enters, loud footsteps approaching]

Speaker (observing the man further behind Listener): Geez, what… what is that?
Speaker (incredulous): An inmate from another building? Did he manage to escape?
[Speaker observes the man]

Speaker: But he's huge!! He's a giant ! How did he manage to get away?
Speaker: Wait, that tattoo he has… I think I've seen it before. It looks like it's from a rather well-known gang, reputed to be merciless.
Speaker (amused): It seems this gentleman isn't a saint.
(…)

Speaker (collecting himself): Well, good luck catching him, Guardie. You're definitely going to need the help of your colleagues.
[Speaker moves away from the bars, comfortably sitting in his cell]

Speaker (yawning): Hm? What am I doing?
(…)

Speaker (playing innocent): Well, I'm just a naughty thief, so I'll stay safe in my cell. This brute can be as big and violent as he wants; he won't break the bars, so I'm safe.
Speaker (amused and nonchalant): Well, we can't say the same for you, so try not to die.
[More guards arrive, lighter footsteps]
Speaker (sarcastic): Oh, look, Mr. Chief of the department and his men have come to your rescue! How lucky you are!
[Loud noise, the guards are knocked out by the fugitive. Then the sound of people falling to the ground.]

Speaker: Oh… They have already been beaten by the giant
Speaker : Well, it looks like they weren't much help, haha…
[Again, loud footsteps approaching (loud footsteps, monster footsteps…)]

Speaker: Hm, looks like he's coming this way…
Speaker (amused): So, how are you going to handle this, Guardie? Do you have a plan?
(…)

Speaker (feigning sadness): Oh no, what a shame, you don't. If only someone could help you solve the situation.
Speaker (continuing): But all your colleagues are on the ground, and reinforcements will take some time to arrive… That's really unfortunate.
(Listener hesitates)

Speaker (acting surprised): Oh, you're asking me to team up? But I'm a naughty, wicked criminal.
Speaker (being dramatic): How could you, a figure of righteousness, ally yourself with someone as horrible as me?
(…)

Speaker: Oh? You need me? That's what I like to hear.
Speaker: Okay, then, I'll agree to help you.
(Listener is relieved)
[Possibility of adding noises of fracas, fugitive making noise in the background]

Speaker: Hey hey, don't look so proud of yourself so quickly. I'm not doing this for free. You'll owe me something.
(…)

Speaker: What do I want? Let me think… Hm…
Speaker: Oh, I know! I want you to give me an excellent review in your official reports. You'll have to describe my behavior as exemplary!
(…)

Speaker: Hey, don't make that face, it's not really lying! I've calmed down a lot since I got here! Besides, it's not like I'm in this prison for murders or worse!
Speaker: Oh, so you accept… Perfect.
Speaker: So, we have a deal. Now, as for my ultimate reward...
[Speaker teasingly approaches Listener.]
Speaker: I want you to grant me a date.
Speaker: Yes, you heard that right. When I'm finally released from this place, I want you to show me around the city, like a real date.

Speaker: Delighted to see we can come to an agreement! Deal sealed then.
(Listener unlocks the Speaker's cell) [Sound of keys]

Speaker (stepping out of the cell): Don't worry, Guardie, with me by your side, you have nothing to fear.
Speaker (turning towards the fugitive): Well, I didn't expect to have to fight so soon, but oh well. Now, looks like it's just you and me, big guy!
[Sounds of struggle, the fugitive making noise in the background]

Speaker (attacking the fugitive): Take that !
[Sound of impact, but the fugitive retaliates]
Speaker: Argh!
Speaker: You're not getting away that easily!
[Sound of a blow]

Speaker: Damn, is he tireless or what? Ah-
[The fugitive tries to hit the Speaker, but the Listener prevents him, a movement noise]

Speaker (grateful): Thanks, Guardie, it's a good thing you're here!
Speaker (addressing the fugitive): I love sparring with you, Mr. Killer, but I think it's time to end this charade!
[Speaker delivers a decisive blow, catching the fugitive off guard and pinning him to the ground, the sound of a crash]

Speaker: We did it!
Speaker: Quick, the handcuffs!
(Listener handcuffs the fugitive) [Handcuffs sound]

Speaker: Good job! You're not the worst ally I've had, that's for sure!
Speaker (teasing again): I hope all this brings us closer.
(…)

Speaker (flirting): You know, now that I'm out of my cell and close to you like this, it's pretty hard not to want to hug you…
[Sound of footsteps, other guards from other buildings arrive] [Speaker steps back]

Speaker (a bit disappointed): Well, it looks like reinforcements are here. I'd better hurry back to my cell if I don't want to extend my sentence.
[Speaker walks, Listener closes the cell with a key]

Speaker (amused): You should thank me. I'll let you take all the credit this time. You'll just have to say you managed to overpower this giant. Well, hopefully they believe you.
Speaker: Anyway, despite all the commotion, I'm rather grateful.
(…)

Speaker (smiling): Why? Well, because now I have a good reason to want to get out of this miserable prison.
Speaker: So, I'll have to behave myself. Now that I have the chance to go out with you, I can't let this opportunity slip away.
(…)

Speaker: Well, looks like they're calling you elsewhere.
Guardie: See you later, Guardie. I can't wait to see your sweet face again.

(End)

2024.05.28 19:07 brokenringlands Time Life World War II Series, Complete! (+1 Doubled up!). Got all 40 for $40 Canadian at FB Marketplace.

https://www.reddit.com/Militariacollecting/comments/1ch5h2i/time_life_books_early_1970s_world_war_ii_18/
As I replied to on another post I found during a search, I just scored all 39 of the Time Life World War II Collection, +1 doubled up (Prelude to War), which means I got 40. All this for $40 Canadian at FB Marketplace, with free banker's boxes to boot! Real Score!
https://imgur.com/a/77jZ121
I'll admit, I have a nostalgic and emotional connection to these as I'm an elder Millennial who discovered my highschool library's collection of these. From Grade 10 to 12 I signed out the ones concerned with the big turning points in the war. In no small measure, it also contributed to my joining the Army Reserve (Infantry) during my young adult years. I've always regretted not going through all of them, but time was always an issue. Even with the ones I signed out, I do know I may have just leafed through some of the ones that weren't as "action packed".
Welp, now's my time to make good on that, take my time, do it in installments.. etc. No matter the pace, gaps in-between or whatevs. They're mine now.
All in good condition. Last night, I grabbed each and every one of them and just tried to inspect it and they all seem to be near perfect. I actually found a few pages that haven't been leafed through yet as evidenced by the pages stuck together by the page trimming process (you know the kind.... where they're just physically stuck because the cuts aren't as crisp). I only saw one that had damage, and it's Partisans and Guerrillas - the spine seems to have bent, so the binding is coming loose. Not a problem. Though I treasure the whole collection, and I respect the tenacity of the fierce independence by the people's portrayed in that volume, that one isn't one of my favourites - and let's be honest - nor is it one that's a major MAJOR turning point in the war. All in all, everything else is pretty good, and most importantly, my favourites are very much intact or even in mint condition.
Now, the question: What order to read this in? The Wikipedia entry can be sorted multiple ways and two that sort of make sense the most are Volume # or Publish Date.
But I've decided I'm not happy with either. Lol. I thought I'd curate my own order. As I leafed through these last night, I noted that chronological order - although it makes sense - would be hard because there's a lot of overlap. Some volumes focus on certain subjects that encompass the whole war for instance.
So, this is the order I've sorted them (playing it like a Time Life playlist DJ :)
Prelude to War 1918 – 1938
Blitzkrieg 1939 – 1941
Battle of Britain 1940 – 1941
Russia Besieged Mid 1941 – 1941 late
The Rising Sun 1935 – 1942
^ Table setting for the whole war and the inciting incident. It's tough, because The Rising Sun ends with Midway, a big turning point, whereas the European Theatre all ends with a worrisome Axis victory.
(That said, this is a very European focused book collection, a very obvious weakness I noted even in my youth)
Battle of the Atlantic 1939 – 1943 ('44)
The War in The Desert 1940 – 1943
Battles for Scandinavia 1939 - 1943
PartisansandGuerrillas 1940 – 1944 Late
China-Burma-India 1942 – 1944
^ When the war felt like a tough slog. No end in sight.
Red Army Resurgent 1943 – 1943 Mid
The Mediterranean 1938 – 1943
Air War in Europe 1940 – 1945
TheSovietJuggernaut ear 1943 – 1944 Late
The Italian Campaign 1943 – 1944 Mid
Italy at war 1940 – 1945
^ When things start turning around. Italy at War I thought, would be best read after The Italian Campaign as a nice bookend to the actions in that region.
Island Fighting 1942 – 1944
The Commandos 1940 – 1945
The Resistance 1940 – 1944
The Second Front June 1944 – 1944
Liberation June 1944 – 1944 September
Home Front: Germany 1937 – 1944
^Big amphibious landings (continues on from the amphibious landings in Italy).
Because Liberation (Of France, Mostly) pretty much made the fall of Germany inevitable. I thought it best to have Home Front: Germany come after that.
War Under The Pacific 1941 – 1945
ReturntothePhilippines 1942 – 1944 October All the way to 45
^ Big turning point in the Pacific. After the big bloody small island-capturing actions by the US Marines, and after MacArthur's island hopping campaigns that culminate in his Return to the Philippines, the war was pretty much over for Japan. The only question was, when will they surrender?
The Nazis 1923 – 1944 July, Stauffenberg’s
The Neutrals 1939 – 1945
The Secret War 1939 – 1944
Battle of the Bulge 1944 – 1945
^ Let's take a break from that big Pacific turning point and think about The Nazis still being a problem in Europe. Might as well start off with a retrospective on them. Then, two more volumes about subjects that encompass the whole war, and then, we get back to a play by play on battles, with Battle of the Bulge.
The Road to Tokyo Sep 1944 – 1945 June
War in The OutPosts 1942 – 1945
Across the Rhine Early 1945 – 1945 Mid
^
Big leaps in the Asia and Europe, split by a volume concerning the far flung reaches of the war. Victory at this point seemed just a matter of time.
Home Front USA 1941 – 1945 Manhattan
Bombers Over Japan 1942 – 1945
Japan at War 1930’s- 1944
^ After the crossing of the Rhine, and after the recapture of the Philippines, I think (and I could be wrong here) that the US population started breathing a big sigh of relief. Best to get a retrospective with Home Front USA which ends with the Manhattan project. Following that, Bombers Over Japan makes the most sense, since that too ends just before the Atomic strikes.
Prisoners of War 1941 – 1945
Victory in Europe April 1945 – 1945 May
Fall of Japan June 1945 – 1945 Sep
The Aftermath Europe END
The Aftermath Asia END
^
Self explanatory. End of the war.

2024.05.28 18:34 tiramesu Suggest me a book with similar vibes

I'm deep in the Romantacy rabbit hole and am looking to read some series thar are similar to ACOTAR and From Blood and Ash.
WAIT DONT LEAVE YET I PROMISE I HAVE MORE SPECIFICS
I am looking for enemies to lovers (of course) and prefer a slower burn. I really enjoy when there are active side characters especially like Cassian and Azriel or Kieren who act as advisors and fiercely loyal etc etc.
I just finished book 3 of From Blood and Salt and enjoyed the general vibe of that one as well! I've read The Plated Prisoner series, also. I didn't really enjoy the Serpent and Wings of the Night, honestly!
Yes, my tbr is 2 pages long but I have a very specific craving!
Thanks in advance for any help in my search for a new series!!

2024.05.28 18:27 scosgurl Pediatrician recommendations for newborn

Hi all, I searched this up on the subreddit, but it looks like most of those posts are from at least a year ago, so I thought I’d get some fresh opinions. I’m 33 weeks pregnant with our first child, and I’d like to figure out a good pediatrician to set her up with once she’s born. Someone knowledgeable, communicative, and who takes BCBS is preferred. Let me know who you like! We live in Harvest, but we’re okay with traveling to Madison or the northern part of Huntsville (farther if the doc is truly that good/worth it).

2024.05.28 18:09 InternetFreedomIn Earlier this month, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal claimed that he was under round-the-clock CCTV surveillance during his time in Tihar Jail. The claim raises pressing questions about the legality & psychosocial effects of surveilling incarcerated persons.

Earlier this month, Delhi CM ArvindKejriwal claimed that he was under round-the-clock CCTV surveillance during his time in Tihar Jail. The claim raises pressing questions about the legality & psychosocial effects of surveilling incarcerated persons.
https://www.hindustantimes.com/cities/delhi-news/pm-watched-me-in-jail-through-cctv-i-did-not-break-kejriwal-101715623095383.html
Let’s rewind the clock ⏱️In 2015, the Supreme Court directed Indian prisons to install CCTV cameras in response to increasing instances of torture & abuse of incarcerated persons by police or jail security, to enhance accountability within the penal system.
How’s that worked out so far? Well, data released by NCRB reveals that even after the SC direction, all prisons did not install CCTV cameras. For those that did, incidents of violence, abuse, unnatural custodial deaths, clashes, & escapes did not decrease but in fact went under the radar as there was no footage to corroborate, due to malfunctioning cameras.
https://www.deccanherald.com/india/cctv-in-prisons-a-violation-of-privacy-1166375.html
Also, erm, SC did not classify where CCTVs can or cannot be installed, or the procedure & safeguards for collecting, regulating, & protecting the data captured. Cameras may be placed inside cells, enabling extremely invasive surveillance & unchecked data use by jail security.
A similar attempt at placing CCTV cameras in women’s barracks at the Mumbai's Byculla Prison was vehemently opposed by its residents on the grounds that it infringes on their right to privacy & dignity, especially as they're monitored by male security.
https://feministsindia.com/inmates-hunger-strike-stops-cctv-installations-inside-mumbai-jail-womens-barracks/
Moreover, pervasive & real-time CCTV surveillance in prisons can add to the thick air of fear, paranoia, and suspicion that incarcerated persons often feel towards jail security, and can make them hyper-conscious of their conduct, appearance, or mannerisms.
Both ECHR & UNODC have separately acknowledged that unchecked & unlawful use of physical security aids such as cameras by definition intrude on privacy & dignity, & must only be used with due regard to the rights of incarcerated and undertrial persons. So while the use of CCTV cameras in Indian prisons may not be unlawful, it is certainly awful (and to some extent unjustifiable as a reasonable restriction to privacy given its ineffectiveness).
Watch this space for IFF’s explainer on surveillance in trial & incarceration contexts.

2024.05.28 18:08 Ranadiel A Deep Dive into the File Remnants for the Original Plans for 2.0 (Datamined Defunct Content)

So there was a recent thread that got me to look back on the original plans for the 2.0 expansion material and I ended up digging through it a bit more than I ever had before. I figured it might be fun to write up a full breakdown of what I was able to gleam from my digging.
Before I begin, I should mention that the information available is spotty and inconsistent in places. For example, according to the TORCommunity database, a lot of these files were added in version 1.3 and 2.0. However, going back to the files that are in those patches (I love you Jedipedia), a lot of those files are not present in those versions. I assume this is internal marking, and is based on the dev's versions and not the live versions. In fact the Sith Warrior dialogues only show up in live in 5.0.0. I have no idea why those dialogues just suddenly popped into existence there.
Generally speaking I have four types of files available to look through.
  • The first are the cnv (conversation) files, which are the most useful as they give the actual dialogue thereby telling us what the plot was. We have these for Bothawui for all republic classes, Ziost for Sith Warrior, "open world" (term used for quests between planets or for small instanced planets) for all five of the above, and one random Imp World arc file for Yavin IV. There are some that are blank, but the majority have something.
  • The second are quest files for the quests. We have quests for all of the classes on Bothawui, Ziost, and Open Worlds. We have quests for Jedi Knight on Sleheyron. We have world arc quests for Yavin IV for both factions, and side quests for every planet. Unfortunately, these are a bit more hit and miss in their usefulness because some of them are missing strings. So sometimes we can get what all the steps of a quest were going to be, other times the only things we can learn are a name the quest used to go by and how many steps the quest was supposed to have. Even the ones that have all their strings aren't necessarily useful. For example, we have all the steps for the Sith Inquisitor quest, "A Warm Welcome." Step 1, " Take a Shuttle to Your Estate." Great, now we know the SI has an estate! Step 2, " Talk to the Sith Lord." And the usefulness is gone.
  • The third type are creature files. These tell us who was planned to show up where, but they are of limited usefulness without context as to what the NPC was doing. For example, I can't immediatly tell the difference between a friendly, an enemy that starts friendly and turns hostile after a conversation, or someone that appears via holo-recording.
  • The fourth "type" are "phantom files" that are listed in TORCommunity's databases, but are missing from what I am able independently datamine. I trust that TORCommunity's listings are correct, but there also isn't much to gain from these files since they are all empty (included in these are some of the missing cnv files).

Overall Plan

So to begin, it should be noted that all of these cnv files are located in the directory cnv.exp.01. This is the same naming convention used for the released Rise of the Hutt Cartel files. This makes it difficult to tell what Makeb's original role in the expansion was. It appears that it was intended to be part of the expansion as there is the following line from the Supreme Chancellor that appears to vary based on whether a Smuggler did Makeb before starting Bothawui.
(Did not do Makeb) "Of course I am. The Voidwolf's defeat is the only reason I can ignore being referred to as "Madame Chance. "
(Did do Makeb) "Of course I am. Your success on Makeb bought you considerable leeway with me--but "Madame Chance" is pushing it. "
Additionally according to TORCommunity's "added in patch" data, the majority of Makeb's cnvs were initially added in 1.3, which was the same patch that most of the other files were added for the cut content.
So in addition to Makeb, the planned planets appear to have been Bothawui (Pub), Ziost (Imp), and Sleheyron (Both). These three planets were intended to have class stories and side quests (no evidence of a world arc, but I don't know if none was planned or if they just didn't get to it). There is no evidence that Makeb was ever meant to have any class stories on it. Additionally, there is one conversation file for Imp Yavin IV. It was early on in development when they stopped working on it since the dialogue is just a summary of what happens in the scenes (e.g., a shuttle crashes), but there are quests and NPCs for both Pub and Imp world arcs, so there was more planned.
So in summary the plan appears to have been something like:
  • Makeb (Shared Planet with World Arcs)
  • Bothawui/Ziost (Faction Exclusive Planets with Class Stories)
  • Sleheyron (Shared Planet Class Stories)
  • Yavin IV (Shared Planet with World Arcs, placement uncertain but has to be before or after the class stories as an NPC that is kidnapped in a class story is a quest NPC)
Now before I start on discussing the content from each planet, it is worth mentioning that I have little context for most quests and NPCs, so I'm just going to be putting them in alphabetical order.

Bothawui

The overall setting for this Planet seems to have been that the Republic is going on the offensive and the Imperials are going scorched earth while they get pushed off planet.
Something that is well known (I think) at this point is that Dantooine on live is a modified version of the map that originally made for Bothawui. From the dialogue files that I've looked through, I'm betting the dam in the portion of the map we are on was originally called the Bosnar Dam, which was a set piece for one of the JK missions. Also probably worth noting that the there are multiple mentions of Bothawui being an important source of food, which probably factored into their choice to reuse the area since Dantooine is also a farming planet.
Quests
  • Storm of Destruction
  • The Butchers of Bothawui
  • The Stone Ray's Lair
  • Wet Work
  • (Bonus)
    • Search and Rescue

Ziost

I'm really not sure what the state of Ziost was supposed to be. SW seems to be dealing with Pubs having taken over the planet defense grid. SI and IA seem to be dealing with internal politics. And I have no idea of what BH is up to.
Quests
  • [HEROIC 2] Battle of Xeno District
  • Caged
  • Gateway to the Empire
  • [HEROIC 4] The Horror at Black Forge
  • (Bonus)
    • Cathar Fury
    • Counter-offensive
    • The Ritual of Naga-Sadow

Sleheyron

Honestly I have less of an idea for Sleheyron than Ziost since Sleheyron is either the least finished planet or the planet with the least files that has slipped into live.
Quests
  • (Pub General Quests)
    • Castles in the Skies
    • Devotion to Duty
    • The Battlefield of Tomorrow
    • Tibanna Exchange
  • (Imp General Quests)
    • Doomsday Virus
    • Master Logrus
    • Quantum Javelin

Yavin IV

I have very little idea on the Pub side of things. There are some clues for the Imp side though. While he lacks a creature file, the Imp quests make mention of reporting to Servant One. So that means Imps were probably here on a mission for the Emperor. My first instinct is reviving the Emperor, but I don't have enough info. General Heskar also made a return. Oh Imps also spoke to Naga Sadow's force ghost as part of their world arc.
Quests
  • (Pub World Arc)

Jedi Knight

So the JK's overreaching plot for seems to have been working together with the Protectors (the rescue team we met on Makeb) in order to help evacuate people.
There are multiple mentions of a place called Talravin, which I'm guessing is where the story would start as the JK helps evacuations there. From reading between the lines, it appears that the JK would be sending the refugees to a new world called New Euphrades...and of course the story finishes with us fighting a Sith in orbit as he is trying to destroy it.
Based on quest names, it seems we were meant to go to Alphelion Six, which does not have a wookiepedia article so I guess it was a new planet, at some point. Since the finale seemed to be New Euphrades, I'm guessing this happened between Bothawui and Sleheyron. Whenever it happened, the Protectors were apparently going to join you there.
Seems that there was an ending choice for the JK between joining the Protectors full time or becoming the Battlemaster. There is a lot of dialogue regarding the role of Jedis, so this seems like a conclusion to that arc as the JK chooses whether to be a protector or a warrior? Scourge also mentions that he had additional visions, but doesn't provide anything useful just kind of says "yeah I totally knew you were going to make that choice" after you made it.
Rough Map
  • Talravin to start the plot?
  • Bothawui to rescue civilians from the fighting
  • ??? (Alphelion Six?)
  • Sleheyron to ??? (probably rescue more civilians)
  • Area where Talaravin gets the shield codes for New Euphrades
  • Battle over New Euphrades
  • Report to the Chancellor where you get the choice between joining the Protectors and Battlemaster

    • The Ortis Problem
Notable NPCs
  • Off World/Multi World
    • Captain Maddox - Leader of the Protectors that are joining the JK. He joins you on your ship (like members of the Rift Alliance did for the JC?). Also dies, so I assume you might be taking his role if you joined the protectors.
    • Doctor Kantos - Head medical officer for the Protectors. She also joins the JK's ship. You could flirt with her, and she seemed to be receptive to both genders. There are confrontations at the end of the story for both Kira and Doc where you have to choose between your LI or her. So I guess she was planned as a continuous love interest...not sure how that would have worked since she wasn't a companion.
    • Tefani - Tech head for the Protectors who also joined the JK's ship.
    • Darth Legius - Praetor of the Dark Council's army (no idea how that is different than the normal army). He appears to be the main villain for the JK. He had sworn vengeance over us for "lying" about killing the Emperor. Also he had two apprentices that get the one-off villain treatment on Bothawui. Our final battle would have taken place aboard his flagship, the Vindicator after he pissed off the Dark Council. One dialog implies that at some point he becomes the first Sith to publicly acknowledge the death of the Emperor.
    • Darth Marr - No idea what his role was (probably holo-call with Legius?), but he is in the JK files
    • General Var Suthra - He could reappear during the Aphelion Six quest
    • Master Orgus Din - He appears in the Soft Targets files, so I guess we were meant to get more force ghost lessons from him?
  • Bothawui
    • Garith - Local resistance fighter who is your initial contact when you arrive
    • Colonel Blight - Villain and probably part time Captain Planet villain. He is an efficiency expert who has been brought in to kill as many civilians as possible as the Imps retreat.
  • Sleheyron
    • Agent Galen - Our old cybernetic buddy could show up

Jedi Consular

The JC's arc seems to be the most clear cut. The JC gets a vision of the galaxy burning because of Torwin Vehls and then sets out to find them and stop them. On Bothawui, the JC discovers that Torwin has the power to give power to others, and this includes giving force sensitivity to non-sensitives (and also to animals).
The JC fails to catch Torwin on Bothawui and must continue chasing after him before he find "the Shrouded Ones," which were something related to the Rakata. "The Shrouded Ones were built to be the end of everything. A solution, to our empire's final problem." Not sure if they were something new or something that already exists given a mysterious name. There are talks about them that makes them sound like they are machines powered by the force, but I'm not sure how that solves the Rakata's final problem or meshes with Torwin's power. Then again the Rakata were evil jerks, so maybe their solution was to just murder everyone so they didn't go down alone?
I feel like there is a good chance that this unused arc is the inspiration for at least part of the current arc since one of the powers Darth Nul is mentioned as having is awakening force sensitivity in those unaware they had it (slightly different, but if anyone starts mentioning Shrouded Ones, we know that is not a good sign).
Rough Map
  • Get a vision somewhere (Voss diplomatic mission?)
  • Bothawui to hunt down Torwin
  • ??? (Remnants of Natukar? You work with Darth Kallomena to find a Rakata map to the Shrouded Ones)
  • Sleheyron to hunt down the Shrouded Ones

Notable NPCs
  • Off World/Multi World
    • Darth Kallomena - A masked Sith that the JC encounters on Bothawui. She is also seeking Torwin because he is her charge or something along those lines.
    • Gnost-Dural - Shows up in the Unforeseen Circumstances quest
    • Voss - Several Voss also appear in the Unforeseen Circumstances quest, seems to be a diplomatic conference about the Voss wanting to send their commandos home to deal with the Gormak. No Gaden Ko though
    • Hallow Voice - Has some dialogue talking about the Shrouded Ones
  • Bothawui
    • The Custodian - A Rakata that was made force sensitive against his will by Torwin in an attempt to bribe The Custodian into giving info on the Shrouded Ones
  • Sleheyron
    • (Nobody that I recognize)

Smuggler

Trying to describe this plot feels like a fever dream, but maybe that is appropriate for a continuation of the OG Smuggler story. So the Smuggler gets dragged into the story after an attack on Port Nowhere by a criminal gang.
The Smuggler tracks them down to Bothawui where you learn they are the Womp Family and that they have gotten ahold of a Superdreadnaught, which they refer to as a "space mansion." And they aren't just called the Womp Family, they actually are a family. The plot is essentially that a bunch of hillbillies got their hands on a...fully automated aircraft carrier(?) and are now going around launching air strikes on people that tipped their cows. They literally launch an orbital bombardment on the Smuggler at one point. Not his ship or base that he is at. Just the Smuggler after the Smuggler corners one of their members. They are also trying to extort the Republic. I don't know how things ended, but I imagine the dark side ending has the Smuggler getting a larger ship.
Rough Map
  • Port Nowhere is attacked
  • Bothawui to look into who was behind the attack
  • ??? (Bothawui ends with Risha going to research Barabbula, so I assume we followed up on that lead next)
  • Sleheyron to ???
  • ??? (Probably the opportunity to steal the Superdreadnaught, but I don't have that dialogue)

Notable NPCs
  • Off World/Multi World
    • Master Sumalee - She would have returned! And she had a fade to black! Also revealed that Satele dropped the prohibition against romance off screen. She seems to serve as the Smuggler's contact with the Republic (which was her job for one of the Smuggler endings).
    • Beryl Thorne - Don't know what she was up to, but she apparently reappeared in Party Down
    • Barrabula the Hutt - Owner of the superdreadnaught that was somehow stolen. Also the Supreme Mogul of the Cartel three hundred years ago.
  • Bothawui
    • (Nobody I recognize)
  • Sleheyron

Trooper

Trooper is leading the front lines of the battle on Bothawui with a reporter in tow. Had a scene that would have been interesting to see where the Trooper was to get airdropped in a bomb modified to serve as an entry craft. The reporter mentions having enough footage on Bothawui, so I'm not really sure where the expansion long arc was supposed to go from there. Immediately after Bothawui, you are the guest of honor at a party held by the Chancellor, so I guess the Sleheyron mission pops up there.
Rough Map
  • ???
  • Bothawui to liberate the world and get footage
  • Be the guest of honor for a party the Chancellor is holding
  • Sleheyron to ???
  • ???

Notable NPCs
  • Off World/Multi World
    • Rylo Kann - Journalist that joins the Trooper for at least part of the expansion.
    • Jaxo - So I guess she was meant to reappear if alive.
  • Bothawui
    • Jonas Balker - He would have returned. And he would have had a fade to black...something he still doesn't have on Live yet.
    • Dagger Wing - They would have returned from Belsavis to provide support on your campaign. They have an interesting choice where they ask you how to handle the reporter as he wants to interview them (unaware of the whole accidently war crimes backstory?).
    • Raven Squad - You were supposed to meet them on the battlefield, which would have included them calling bombers on your position. No idea if their current iteration is meant to be the same as this group, but they almost certainly reused the name since it wasn't otherwise being used. Their commander in this iteration is named Varis.
  • Sleheyron
    • (Nobody that I recognize)

Sith Warrior

Sith Warrior is the only one of the Imp classes that I have dialog for. On Ziost, the SW is in charge of getting the planetary defenses back after Pubs take them over. However the planetary defenses might only be a distraction because there is dialogue referring to the Sith Warrior saving the Voice who is a necessary component for reviving the Emepror.
The overarching plot seems to be a conflict with Gnost-Dural who seems to be looking into ending the Emperor for good. While the SW is dealing with Ziost, Gnost-Dural prepares to attack the hidden fortress where the Hand resides. The attack starts while the SW is reporting on their success in protecting the Hand. Once here Gnost-Dural captures all of the Servants except for Servant Twelve who goes to the SW for help. Servant Twelve drops the tidbit that if the hand was severed than (in this timeline) the Emperor can no longer revived. Gnost Dural seems unaware of this as he puts the Servants in stasis and carefully probes their minds to get information about the Emperor without hurting them.
Interesting to note that one of the quests is called Showdown on Ossus, so that might have been the inspiration for Gnost-Dural being on Ossus in Jedi Under Siege.
Also there is a dialogue that mentions the Sith Warrior putting down two Dark Council members. Not entirely sure which Dark Council members they were though. Checking the NPC list for all the Sith Warrior locations, the only Darths that are mentioned are Darth Baras and Darth Vowrawn. So I guess they were including Baras. I'm thinking that Vowrawn might have actually sided with Gnost-Dural? There is a line in a conversation during the Hand's Fortress that states, "His source remains a mystery--not even Darth Vowrawn or Zujen Vale knew our location." Zujen Vale is mentioned to be a traitor in a different conversation. So I guess Vowrawn being opposed to the Hand on Rishi might have been inspired by the original plan to make him opposed to the Emperor? And now I have Emperor Vowrawn on live instead. Funny how these things work.
There is also mention of the Sith Warrior making a speech during/after Ziost, which appears to have been about reform and appears to have been directed at the Dark Council. So I guess a LS option to try and put the fear of Wrath into the Dark Council after the Wrath did some house cleaning.
Rough Map
  • ??? (The Final Revenge of Darth Baras?)
  • Ziost to take back the planetary defenses and save the Voice
  • Hand's Fortress to save the Hand
  • Sleheyron to track down Gnost-Dural by following a data drop off
  • ??? (Track down Gnost-Dural for final confrontation? Showdown on Ossus?)

Notable NPCs
  • Off World/Multi World
    • Servants 1-11 - Whole family reunion in this one
    • Servant 12 - Only one of the Servants to not get captured. Spends some time on your ship after the Hand's Fortress is raided. She is completely uninterested in the SW's attempts to flirt. Unlike the Protectors for the JK or Rylo for the Trooper, Servant Twelve does not have a creature file for the ship, so she might have been cutscene only.
    • Master Gnost-Dural - Seems to have been the main "villain"
    • Darth Vowrawn showed up in Fracture
    • Darth Baras could show up in The Final Revenge of Darth Baras
    • Lord Qet - Vowrawn's apprentice shows up too
    • Zujen Vale - A Sith you meet on Ziost. Secretly works for Gnost-Dural
  • Ziost
    • Armageddon Battalion - They return to assist the Sith Warrior
    • Voice of the Emperor - Here to be rescued
  • Sleheyron
    • (Nobody that I recognize)

Sith Inquisitor

I have very little idea of what the SI was supposed to get up to. The SI seems to be hobnobbing with the Dark Council on Ziost, but beyond that I'm not quite sure what is going on. You did apparently get your own estate on Ziost though. So neat?

I don't remember who was on the Council at this time, so I'm just listing all the Darths in the two quests and hope I'm not giving anyone a promotion. Arkov, Marr, Soverus, Acina, Mortis, and Ravage.
    • Lord Qet - I guess Vowrawn is represented by his apprentice while he's off doing things (and being killed?) in the SW story?
  • Ziost
    • Moff Pyron - Everyone's favorite lackey showed up
  • Sleheyron
    • (no NPCs in files I have)

Imperial Agent

At least part of the IA storyline seemed to be focused on cleaning up after Malgus's rebellion as there are NPCs with Malgus in their name. I'm not sure whether that was the focus of the entire expansion or if you stumble onto something else while dealing with "the betrayer's spymaster."

Notable NPCs
  • Off World/Multi World
    • Ardun Kothe - Every IA's best friend can return! Although I guess it makes sense as I assume he becomes your handler if you give him the Black Codex
    • Shara Jenn - She would have returned...and gone by the name Nexus? I'm really not sure where that comes from. Weird thing is that her creature file is named shara_jenn, but for whatever reason IA has some NPCs with names. Had her creature file just been named Nexus, I would not have known it was her
    • Colonel Niar - This seems to have been a recurring character who even joins you on your ship (no creature file for him though). I've seen someone say that the IA storyline got converted to be the Imp Makeb storyline, and I suspect this NPC is where that idea originated from. I don't have any dialogue associated with the NPC, but I feel confident is not Katha Niar from Makeb since this NPC is a male (and the gender attribute is properly assigned on other unfinished NPCs). Sort of off topic, but it seems Katha Niar was originally named Kiar Onila.
    • Darth Marr - No idea what his role was, but he shows up
    • Ocean - I guess this is a code name for someone? You bring them to an escape shuttle at one point
  • Ziost
    • (Nobody that I recognize)
  • Sleheyron
    • Saresh - Not sure what her role here was

Bounty Hunter

I have no context to make sense of the info I have for BH. An NPC named Zedania seems to be important. I can't tell what his role in the story was though. I think in one mission we are saving him though? So a client I guess? Also someone named Brand that we get a lot of holocalls from, so either an ally or a very mouthy antagonist?

Random Observations and Quotes

  • HK-51 and the ship droid both got reactions to the content in this 2.0. I think HK actually has some in vanilla that is no longer available since 4.0, but Ship Droid has none except for maybe some environmental reactions on Makeb?
  • Smuggler (romancing Risha) after getting buried alive
    • If we only have a little air left, I say we use it up vigorously. How's that for a plan?
    • Like all your schemes, it's poorly thought-out and likely to end in violence. I'm in.
  • Treek was not originally in the plans for this version of 2.0 as she is missing from the majority of companion reactions, but a small number of lines that mention her appear so I think they had decided to add her in the future before the scope was cut
  • Servant One to the Sith Warrior
    • We also bore witness to your speech. The Empire's transformation does not concern the Emperor, but others may prove less tolerant.
  • Kira to JK who has been flirting around
    • I'm starting to think that's true. I've been having all these violent urges lately... usually whenever I see you, or Doctor Kantos. And when I see you together? I mean, wow... kind of makes me want to hit you upside the head, you know?
  • Elara after a flirt option (not sure if it is a kiss or fade to black since I only have dialogue) while waiting for a shuttle
    • I'm going to file an official commendation for the Bothan shuttle scheduling authority.
  • Smuggler talking to someone he saved on Coruscant
